> A Day of Opalescence > by Evershade > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The Purrfect Day > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ahhhhh... life is perfect. When you stroll down the pathway with peace and quiet, you could probably hear the sound of a sewing needle hit the ground. The pinging would echo throughout the land. The best part about it is when you finally get to the end and there is a comfy bed waiting for you. The blanket is spread out across the cushion for you. You let out a nice yawn and gently get snug under the blanket. All is calm. It feels like the world is standing still. You are about to close your eyes for a peaceful sleep until... "SWEETIE BELLE!" A loud voice that shatters your ear drum fills the room. Your eyes spring open and your agile reflexes cause you to spring about two feet into the air. Looking down, you see your bed getting closer. Luckily, you land on your feet... this time. Other times it is the face, back, or tail. This is what I have to live through every morning. How did I ever get adopted by such a stressful owner? Being interrupted from my sleep, I walk across the room toward the corner where I leave my toy mou... what happened to my mouse? It was probably downstairs again, like it is every time after Rarity cleans her bedroom. Even though this isn't the best day I have lived, I might as well accept it for the rest of the day. I luckily made it downstairs to the water bowl without having smoke suffocate me. Sweetie Belle was cooking breakfast again. Which means that I might have to eat the leftovers that Rarity doesn't digest, which is all of the platter. Well at least one good thing will come out of this morning. I look at the clock to make sure it is the right time. It is the time that Rarity grooms my fur every morning. I sure do love a good grooming every morning to relax and relieve from the stress that is brought to me. While sitting on my usual chair, something felt peculiar. Rarity wasn't there waiting for me with a brush. Looks like I will have to brush myself again, since Rarity is too busy to take care of me. It can't be that hard to brush your own fur. Right? I guess I was wrong. It looks like I will have to spend the rest of the day looking like a fur ball. I better take another nap. Sleeping is what keeps my mind off of whatever horrible things are happening around me. About ten minutes have past, and a voice is picked up by my ears. I guess a conversation was going on between Rarity and Sweetie Belle. I managed to pick up a little bit of it. I heard Rarity say, "Well, Sweetie Belle, if you need to bring someone into school for Bring-A-Pet Day so badly, you can take Opal." My eyes sprang open by the sound of this. As quickly as I could, I pounced under Rarity's bed. I was so close to getting to the back of the wall, where they couldn't reach me, but it was too late. Using her magic, Rarity managed to levitate me out from under the bed and put me in a portable cage. I hissed and clawed with all my might to break the iron bars, but nothing worked. It was hopeless. I would have to go to school with Sweetie Belle. The vigorous shaking from the cage finally stopped as I was set down next to the Sweetie's desk. Sweetie Belle looked peaked into the cage with one eye to see me. She gasped and said, "Oh-no Opal! How did your hair get so out of place? Did my sister do this to you?" "If only she would have done something about me and my fur," I thought. "Well don't worry. I'll help you straighten your hair," continued Sweetie Belle. My mind was only thinking one thing as Sweetie was carrying me out to the school's playground. "Sweetie Belle doing my fur. This is not going to be pleasant." Taking the hair brush, she started brushing my head nice and slowly. I even smiled a bit because it was so... nice. I thought it was too good to be true, and I was right. Sweetie Belle said, "Hmmm... This is taking too long. I better speed it up a little." She starts moving the brush faster and faster across my back. I let out a big screech because it hurt so bad. I begin to think that I wouldn't have any fur left on my back after Sweetie Belle was done brushing me. When she finished, I had nice and straight fur, surprisingly. I have no idea how that works, but I am fine with it, but tone down the speed a bit next time, Sweetie Belle. Dragging me back into the classroom, Sweetie Belle had a look of struggle on her face. She placed me down next to her desk. I turned my head towards the door, which turned out to be open a crack. Now was my chance to escape this horrible place. At that moment, I pounced from Sweetie's desk and sprinted towards the open door. My eyes were locked on the target. I could see the sunlight beaming through the crack in the door. I was just about to make it, until a magenta pony walked in. She glared down at me, and it was kind of scary. I am not saying that I was scared, it just stunned me... a little. After a quick glare, the teacher looked at Sweetie Belle and smiled saying, "Is this your cat, Sweetie Belle?" Sweetie blushed and let out a quiet, "Yeah..." The magenta pony giggled and said, "That's fine Sweetie. Just make sure to watch over your cat more." Pfft. The last thing I need is to have that rambunctious filly take care of me some more. Even though Sweetie liked Ms. Char-il-i, or whatever her name is, I, for one, don't see her as a good person at all. What nice person would keep fillies in a room all day and talk to them. Doesn't she know that they all have lives too? I have a life too, you know, but it's being kept inside a boutique all day long. I apologize if I am getting off-track here. Sweetie Belle's friends walked into the building with their pets, Winona and... Tank? I can under stand why Apple Bloom brought her "beast" for this event, but the orange one... she brought in that old tortoise? I thought Tank's owner was that rainbow pony. The two fillies ran to their desks, having their pets follow behind them. I had the look of disgust on my face when looking at the dog, Winona. Rolling in mud and getting sweaty from running around all day sounds like torture. I do not want that filthy dog standing anywhere near me. Oh my Celestia. It is setting right next to me. Luckily, it was distracted by the sound of the magenta pony's loud voice. All of the fillies suddenly sat up and looked directly at the pony shouting. I couldn't pay attention to what she was saying because I was busy making sure that Winona didn't go anywhere near me. First up was the orange pegasus. Stepping up in the front of the classroom, she held up the tortoise. I could see her with a huge smile, as if she had accomplished something grand. She started speaking about how her tortoise is so awesome and cool. I rolled my eyes. "Good greif," I thought to myself. Winona was up next. I watched that thing run up to the desk and lick the yelling pony's face. Hasn't anypony taught that awful thing manners? The owner of the dog slowly strolled over to the corner of the room. I didn't know what that little one was doing, but she picked up a loopty-hoop with her mouth and brought it to the front of the classroom. She stretched out her neck, causing the hoop to rise. The dog backed up with a look of confidence on its face. Winona sprinted towards the hoop. I could feel some of the sweat from the dog when it ran past me. I have never met a creature so foul in all of my life. Even though the creature was horrifying, somehow, it managed to do two front flips through the loopty-hoop that the Apple filly was holding up. The whole class cheered, except for the pink filly with a tiara on her head. She just rolled her eyes at the performance. I might have to meet her sometime. It seems that we have a lot in common. We both don't like that "thing", we both have the same style of fashion, and there is probably a lot more that I do not know of. While caught up in my daydreaming of all the things I could have in common with Tiara Pony, I looked up at Sweetie Belle. She had a look of worry on her face, and was not smiling. By the motion she made of biting her hoof, I could tell she was anxious. She quickly glanced at me and then looked back at the teacher's desk. Since the face is an expression that Rarity usually makes, I could tell that Sweetie was nervous about the performance. I usually wouldn't care about any of this, but I just couldn't think with her feeling negative. I had to help Sweetie Belle by showing off some sort of amazing talent. I knew what I could do. When the magenta pony called up Sweetie Belle, the filly started panicking a little. To be honest, we never did come up with a routine or talent ahead of time that I could do. She picked me up with her trembling hooves and set me down in front of the entire class. Feeling nervous, I completely forgot what I was going to do. Sweetie Belle awkwardly smiled at me and mumbled something like, "Go on Opal, do your thing." I could clearly see that she had no idea of what she was going to do. I did what I must. There was only one talent that I was born with, but I never really considered it a "talent". I quickly held my breath and kept it that way. My cheeks started puffing up because they were full of air. I closed my eyes, and when I opened them a few seconds later, my entire coat of fur was sticking up. I looked like a giant puffball. I saw Sweetie Belle try to hold in her chuckles, but she couldn't help it. She burst out laughing at the sight of me. I could accept that though because that is what the rest of the class was doing. Even the magenta pony had a few chuckles. For some reason, I kind of enjoyed the laughter this time. I felt so... proud when I made Sweetie smile. All of the fillies stomped their hooves on the ground as an applause. After a few more acts from other students in the class, we were dismissed. My joy was suddenly converted into pain as I was shoved back into the cage and carried home. It was getting late out. Rarity was lying on top of her bed exhausted after making about twenty or some different dresses today for an order. Sweetie Belle was curled up and sleeping right beside her big sister. I realize that it was time for another relaxing sleep, so I can be taken into another wonderful dream. I was just about to step onto the soft cushion, but then I turned around and thought for a second. I decided to climb up onto Rarity's bed and sleep beside her and Sweetie Belle. I realized that those two may be different (and annoying), at times, but they are not just my owners, they are my family. It was time that I drifted into a deep sleep and be there the next morning, when I wake up to shouting and smell smoke from the kitchen.
