> The Void > by Utopianking > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > In the Beginning > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the beginning, there was darkness. Then the light of a new universe appeared, blinding Void, the sole inhabitant of the Oblivion that surrounded the multiverse. Void circled the new universe, mentally scowling. “Yet another universe of horrid Chaos. This one feels even more powerful than the rest of them.” Void reached out a tendril of pure will to the newborn universe, and peered within. The creature found the creation of the ponies. They were able to access the natural power of their universe, unlike most other beings Void had encountered in its infinite life. The horned ones were able to use their power more actively than others, manipulating matter and energy to their will. The winged ones were able to manipulate condensed masses of liquid as if they were solids. Void tried to think of what they were called, perhaps clouds? The third race was able to manipulate the solid matter around their hooves and the vegetative life. The fourth were more powerful the other three put together. Void pored a small amount of its will into the outer part if the universe, trying to find when the outer boundary would decay away. The only ways Void could enter a universe were if the boundary had decayed enough or if there was a hole. Void was surprised to find that the abilities the ponies had were actually feeding the barrier of the universe, making its life span infinite. “No! I will not have this world infecting my beautiful Oblivion with its Chaos! But the only way to get in now would be to create a hole or remove the magic. Wait, that’s it!” Void flowed through the Oblivion until it reached another universe. This one was darkening, as its boundary was almost entirely decayed. If Void had a mouth in its current form, it would have smiled as it began to enter the universe. Void despised being in a body made of matter and energy instead of its true form of pure will. But the form was needed to interact with these chaotic creatures. Void traveled the universe until it found the world it was looking for and entered the atmosphere. As Void landed, its form changed once again. Void’s final form was mostly concealed in a mass of shadows, but it was still somewhat visible. Within the shadows was a bipedal shape, with long horns coming from its head. The creature was tall, with long arms. Spread wings sprouted from its back. About half a mile away a centaur-like creature and a winged, wolf, lion, humanoid creature watched a dark mass fall from the sky. Tirek stared at the mass, an orange orb forming between his horns. “Is that the Void?” Scorpan asked, a hint of fear seeping into his voice. Before Tirek could answer the mass turned towards the brothers and blurred towards them. When the mass stopped blurring, it was taller than Tirek, and the shadows around it were thinner. “You are correct, Scorpan,” Void answered. “Why are you here, World Eater?” Tirek asked. “I am not here to devour your world, Tirek,” Void pronounced the name how it was originally pronounced, “I am here to cut you a deal to save it.” Tirek’s magic died down, “What do you have in mind?” “I want you to go to a different universe. If you can obtain the power of the beings that inhabit it, then your universe will survive.” “How can we trust you?” Scorpan asked, “How do we know that you won’t devour our world as soon as we leave?” “I haven’t yet. Trust me, I’m showing massive amounts of restraint.” It took about an hour of deliberation to decide whether or not to accept Void’s offer, not that it noticed. Absolute existence does that to beings. “We shall accept your offer,” Tirek answered. Void granted the creatures the ability to travel to and from the other universe. Once they left Void went back to the other universe and prepared to observe. “Yes, the Chaos shall be purged from my beautiful Oblivion. And once those idiots return to their universe, I shall devour their world before the boundary heals.” Void finished watching the ponies lock Tirek away. Mentally it scowled once more. How? How is this possible? Void returned to Scorpan's universe. Once it entered, the shadows around it began to spread, destroying the universe as it moved towards Scorpan's planet. Socrpan watched as the stars went out one by one. As Void touched down Scorpan ran over to Void and yelled, "Why are you doing this? You promised not to destroy this world!" "I promised not to destroy your world while you weren't here. I am no longer bound by that promise. And now, I'm hungry." Void extended a clawed hand and tendrils of shadow wrapped themselves around Scorpan. The darkness began to spread over Scorpan's body even as he struggled. Once the darkness fully encompassed him, his struggles stopped. Red energy began to pour from Scorpan's body into Void's as it squeezed. After a few moments, Scorpan was gone. "Now it is time for desert," Void said aloud as it began to devour the world. > Fallen Kingdom > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Void split his existence between feeding upon universes, observing the pony universe which it dubbed ‘Equis’, and trying to break its own way into said universe. It took many of Equis’ years before Void was able to find a single soul that might put a single crack in the boundary. The soul in question was a young, black, unicorn stallion. What largely made the stallion different from all others was the fact that all other ponies within his community were like the crystals Void had seen in so many universes. Even the stallion’s relations were these so called ‘crystal ponies’. Void focused its will onto the stallion and continued to observe. The stallion was in a crystal castle, holding books in a red energy glow. He walked through the corridor until another unicorn, this one seemingly made of red crystal. The red unicorn used its power to press the black one up against the wall. “Why do you spend so much time in those books, Sombra?” the red unicorn asked sharply. “I-I want to get better at my magic,” Sombra choked out, “You know that I have trouble, Dusk.” “I know that.” Dusk shook his head in frustration. “What I mean is why are you going to and from the library when you should ask one of the guards to do it. A royal cannot show weakness to the public, especially with your pitiful skillset.” This caused Sombra to glance down at his flank, which had the image of a spiral staircase. Dusk pressed his face close to Sombra’s, “If I see you outside of the castle when it’s not absolutely necessary, I will suggest to father that we disown you from being a member of our family.” Dusk let Sombra go and walked away. A few hours later Sombra was crying in his room. “Faust,” he began to pray, “w-why did you make me like this? I’m so weak; I can’t be a proper prince of my empire.” Void realized its chance and forced a small portion of its power through the boundary of the Equis. All it needed was to materialize a little within the empire. Within Sombra’s room, a black cloud formed. From within the cloud, Void’s voice resonated, “Sombra.” Sombra looked up at the cloud and backed away to his bedroom door, “What are you?” “I suppose you could consider me a guardian angel. I want to give you power.” “How much power?” “I can give you more power than you can ever imagine. Just stick a hoof into my cloud and you will get all the power you need and more.” Sombra cautiously stuck a hoof into the black cloud and energy surged into him. Void began to force mutations upon Sombra’s body, causing his teeth to sharpen and his eyes to glow black and green. Before Void removed itself from Sombra’s body, it placed a destructive portion of itself into Sombra’s mind. Once it was finished, Void left Equis and prepared to watch the storm that was going to come. The only way Void knew how to put a hole in a universe’s boundary was to increase the amount of that universe’s energy in a single point. And Sombra would be able to gain the power of the other unicorns. Void observed Sombra as he hostilely took over the Crystal Empire. Sombra killed every crystal unicorn, gaining their power in the process. The boundary of the world was weakening. Once the two alicorn princesses appeared at the empire, the concentrated energy was almost enough to puncture a hole. Void was almost able to slip inside when Sombra was banished. Once he was banished, the boundary restored itself. Void was screaming inside, *efffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff* > Blackest Night > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This time, Void waited for only a century of Equis time before the opportunity to affect the minds of those chaotic ponies presented itself. The pony that Void was observing was one of the ponies that trapped Sombra, a mare by the name of Princess Luna. Luna was doing what she considered lowering the moon. Void mentally laughed at the ponies’ stupidity. They never realized they were controlling the orbit of their solar system. “They’ll suffer for their stupidity, and more.” Void focused back on Luna. She stared at the horizon as the last few rays of moonlight, sighing. Ponies never interacted at night. They only slept. Void could feel the sadness flowing out of her. The night was less chaotic than the day; Void would make Luna’s demise swifter than the rest. Void squeezed a little bit of himself into Equis and made his way to Luna. Luna was lying on her bed, staring at a mural of the night sky on her ceiling. “They never appreciate you,” Void whispered into Luna’s ear. She bolted up, her horn glowing. “Who is there?” she asked, “If you do not tell us, then we will be forced to use force to seek you out.” A ball of black mist appeared in the room. “I am an observer,” Void answered. “I have observed your jealousy of your sister.” “What? We are not jealous of our sister! She is the bringer of light throughout Equestria!” “Her light overshadows your night. Ponies do not stay awake during the night. Perhaps if the night could last a little longer.” “It already does, during the winter.” “I know this, but winter is too cold for ponies to do during the day, let alone the night. What if it lasted longer during the summer.” “Perhaps…” Luna shook her head, “No, I will not succumb to you.” Void saw the crack in Luna’s mind. It knew how to break through, “I’m not saying make the night last forever, just half an hour or so longer.” Luna was quiet for a moment. That hesitation was long enough for Void to force an idea into her mind deep enough to stick. “Perhaps we shall suggest this to our sister,” Luna said slowly. “Why, that’s an excellent idea.” Luna left the room and Void began to laugh. It knew Celestia would never allow Luna to increase the time of the night. Luna would want to take the power away, power that would break the barrier when concentrated in one form. Sometime later, Luna burst into her bedroom, sending a wind crashing through. “HOW DARE SHE!” Luna called out in her Royal Canterlot voice. “I take it she said no,” Void said, feigning ignorance. In truth, it was watching the whole time. “Not even for half an hour,” Luna confirmed, in a softer tone. “That is too bad. Your sister doesn’t understand your need for the night to be seen.” “No…she doesn’t.” “Then perhaps you should show her.” “Yes. Perhaps we should.” Void left the room and began to drill into the barrier. The process would be impossible without a weak point, which Luna would create from absorbing her sister’s power. Or killing her, either way would work. Void watched as Celestia and Luna, now Nightmare Moon, fought above their city. It watched as Nightmare was about to annihilate her sister forever, but then she used the Elements of Harmony. “Elements of Harmony, bah! The pony notion of friendship is no Harmony. Only the Oblivion is true Harmony.” After Celestia banished her sister, Void watched the centuries go by until it sensed a split-second weakness in the barrier. Void searched for the source of this energy disturbance until it found her. A purple unicorn filly. Her potential for power was incredible. If an uncontrolled outburst could temporarily weaken a barrier… “She can let me in.” > The World's End > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Elements of Harmony fired a beam of energy at Twilight Sparkle, causing her to disappear. Well, at least to ponies. Void could sense her in an area of Equis that was made of almost pure energy. “Yes, it is time.” As Twilight began to change into an Alicorn, there was a high level of energy. The energy was so high that the barrier of the universe was weakening to contain it all. Void rammed itself into the barrier, ripping through it like it was nothing. “Yes!” Void spread throughout the empty space until it came to the first star. Void began to fly encompass the star, covering it in its body. Then Void began to shrink down, absorbing its heat, its mass, its existence. Soon, that star was merely a memory. Void began to move throughout the universe, repeating the process with every molecule it came across. “Yes, soon this realm will be gone, forever.” After many months of traveling, Void reached Equestria’s solar system. It began to devour the worlds within the system. On Equestria, ponies were panicking over the loss of these closer lights in the sky. In Canterlot, all four princesses were meeting. Celestia and Luna were in their thrones, while Twilight and Cadence were standing. “Do you have any idea what’s going on?” Twilight asked, trying to keep her voice calm. Luna shook her head, “I have no idea. I try to peer into space, but all I can see is darkness. I sense something familiar, though. I just don’t know what.” “Actually, you might,” the voice of Void rang through the hall. Then, it appeared. It was hidden within its fog. Luna looked up and scowled, “You!” Void began to laugh, “Princess Luna. Long time, no see.” “Who, and what, are you?” Celestia inquired. “This is the creature that convinced me to stand against you,” Luna replied. Void’s fog began to fade, “I am the Void. I protect my Oblivion from the chaotic universes that ravage it. I am also responsible for every hardship that you have faced in Equis’ history, minus that spirit of Chaos.” The air around Void began to haze. The ground under it began to disappear. “Why are you doing this?” Twilight asked, nearly screaming, “Our world hasn’t hurt anything.” “Quite the contrary. The universes disrupt the order that is Oblivion.” Void raised a clawed arm and a tendril of energy flew towards Cadence, “The bringer of Love, such a chaotic force, shall be the first to go.” Cadence jumped out of the way and Celestia called out, “STOP THIS AT ONCE!” Void turned towards Celestia, “I will stop, once every universe is gone!” A tendril of energy grabbed Luna from behind and began to pull her towards Void. The Alicorn began to scream as her skin began to painfully disintegrate. The fog around Voids face began to fade faster, “I will allow you to see one last face before you perish.” The fog around Void’s head finally disappeared, revealing its face. Dark purple bone made up the skull. It was entirely smooth, with an elongated face. Two horns of the same color rose from its head. Two orbs of red burned inside its eye sockets. Luna began to scream louder. The other three princesses began to fire energy at Void, but it had absolutely no effect. Void simply crushed Luna in its grip and absorbed her energy. Then, it grabbed Celestia, Cadence, and Twilight and completely encased them within its energy. The princesses tried to scream, but within Void was a vacuum. They writhed in pain, trying not to exhale. Void liked to experiment with how some of his victims would die, either by suffocation or their internal organs being swept away. The doors burst open and a platoon of guards, headed by Shining Armor, rushed through. “What are you doing to my family?” Shining Armor yelled. Void wordlessly extended a wall of energy towards the guards, destroying them instantly. Void then turned back to Cadence as she was the first to exhale. She began to spasm as she tried to inhale. Tears evaporated from her eyes as soon as they appeared. Finally, Cadence’s heart stopped and Void simply absorbed her. Void turned its attention back to Twilight and Celestia. They were no longer recognizable. Most of their skin was gone, the muscle beginning to fade away. Within seconds their own hearts stopped and they too were absorbed. Void rushed outside, destroying everything and everyone around it. Discord appeared in front of Void and summoned two blades of energy. “So you are the Chaos beast,” Void observed. “I am,” Discord nodded, “I don’t appreciate you killing my friends.” “It is not if you could have done anything about it.” Void shed all of its fog and shadows, revealing a bony creature with leathery skin and wings. “It has been some time I’ve had a fight.” Discord flew at Void and swung his swords. The creature simply raised its arm and the sound of metal on metal clanged through the air. The Void backhanded Discord and sent him flying into a building. Discord stood up and fired a beam of energy at Void, but it was merely absorbed. “You cannot defeat me,” Void stated. Fog-like energy coated it like before. Tendrils of Void’s energy grasped Discord around his arms and body, but Discord used his powers to get free. Void jumped at Discord and wrapped around him, completely covering him. After a split second Void completely absorbed Discord and destroyed him. Once Discord was handled Void continued to destroy Canterlot. It dissolved buildings, roads, and ponies like they were nothing. Within the hour, the entire mountain that held Canterlot was gone. Within the Ponyville Library, the other five members of the Mane Six (and Spike) watched the destruction and the black cloud that was moving towards the town. “Ah sure hope Twahlight’s alright,” Applejack said. “Come on AJ, she can handle anything,” Rainbow Dash tried to convince her friend, and herself. “Well, that thing is getting closer,” Rarity observed, “I think we should get out of town before it gets here.” Rainbow Dash looked at Rarity, “I am not going to just leave Ponyville here without knowing what is going on.” “Ah agree with Rarity,” Applejack said, “We already sent Applebloom and her friends with Big Mac and Granny Smith to Appleoosa. We should take the last train and get out of here.” Pinkie was bouncing about the room, “Actually guys, the last train already left. Mr. and Mrs. Cake got on it with the twins.” Everypony glared at Pinkie (except for Fluttershy, of course). “Why didn’t ya tell us this earlier?” Applejack demanded. “Because I thought we were going to stay here until Twilight got back, no matter what,” Pinkie replied, her mane going slightly limp. The fog ran through Ponyville, causing whoever was left to scream. The ponies rushed outside to find Void standing outside in front of the library. “What are you and what have you done with Twilight?” Rainbow demanded. “I am Void,” it replied, “And I killed her.” The ponies gasped and Fluttershy began to cry. “However,” Void continued, “I will bring her back. And I wish for you all to use the Elements of Harmony to try and defeat me.” Before the ponies could question anything, a large sphere of darkness appeared. The sphere receded after a second and revealed Twilight. She gasped as she breathed again and asked, “What just happened?” All of her friends rushed Twilight and locked her in a hug. “That thing said you were dead,” Fluttershy sobbed. After a minute Void said, “Get the Elements of Harmony. I am not going to wait all day.” Spike jumped up and ran in for the Elements. Once he brought them the ponies put them on and turned towards Void. “Are the other princesses really dead?” Twilight asked. When Void nodded she said, “Then I hope this will avenge them.” The Elements began to glow and the mares rose into the air. Void stood completely still as a rainbow hit it square in the chest. When the Elements stopped and Void was unharmed Twilight gasped, “How are you still here?” “Your Elements are poorly named,” Void said, “They should be named the Elements of Friendship. Friendship is not Harmony, only Oblivion is.” Only after the realization ran through everyponies’ minds did Void disintegrate them. Then, it went and destroyed Ponyville. Void began to spread all over Equestria. Any creatures or buildings that came in contact with it were destroyed instantly. Eventually there was nowhere left to hide, and everything on the surface of Equestria was destroyed. Then, Void spread farther and farther downwards, until the planet was no more. Void then destroyed the sun and moon, destroying the last objects within that horrid universe. Void stared into Oblivion, looking at the universes within. Void moved to the nearest universe and touched the barrier. Despite being very strong, the barrier broke instantly. “Perfect.” Void entered this universe and began to feed.
