Discord, Luna, Sombra, and Celestia were best friends when they were little. So what happened to make them turn on each other? Now these 4 are battling for their kingdoms. But they all ask the same question no matter what battle. What happened to us?
Discord, Luna, Sombra, and Celestia are the best of friends when they were small. They played and laughed together. They even got in trouble together.
But something happened to take that all away.
Now, they're battling so their kingdoms can survive. Fight after fight, blood splattered everywhere. But no matter the battle, they ask the same question.
I laid on the velvet couch, folding and unfolding my wings. I looked up when I heard the door open.
"Hello, Written Script. I'm Dr. Wolf."
I opened my mouth and a yellow-rimmed speech bubble appeared next to me.
"Hi. I know who you are," it read.
The well-dressed wolf to his seat in the chair next to the couch.
"Well, what seems to be the problem?"
I opened my mouth again and a blue-rimmed speech bubble appeared.
"Well, I hate how my voice sounds when I record something, so I only speak with speech bubbles."
"And what does your voice sound like?"
I rolled over so I was on my stomach, my arms hanging off the side. A blue and yellow rimmed speech bubble appeared.
"A squeaky-voiced chupacabra."
Dr. Wolf chuckled and wrote something on his clipboard.
"That's interesting. Alright Ms. Script, what do you like to do?"
An orange-rimmed speech bubble.
"I like to write stories, but my mind's as dry as dragon scales."
The well-dress wolf wrote down something else.
"Alright, who's your favorite character in the show?"
Pink-rimmed speech bubble.
"Of I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be Princess Luna."
"And why is she your favorite?"
I grabbed my speech bubble and widened it, changing the colors to the youngest royal sister. I took a deep breath.
"Princess Luna is my favorite because of all the turmoil she goes through throughout the show. At first, Luna was possessed by her jealously for her sister and became Nightmare Moon. Using her powers, she was determined to send all of Equestria into spiraling darkness. This was when I first watched the show and, being smart in the way of endings, I knew she wouldn't succeed in doing so. But I was surprised to find that Nightmare Moon was actually Princess Luna, a young alicorn no longer possessed by her jealously. She is forgiven by her sister and everyone else and is now ruling aside Princess Celestia."
I took another deep breath. I grabbed my speech bubble and erased it.
"My favorite Luna episode Luna Eclipsed, these issues are still there, as the Ponyvillians fear her when she comes to town for Nightmare Night. At first, Luna is using a booming voice and commands. But with the help of Twilight and some of her friends, Luna became the Luna I wished her to be and I now love. But because Pinkie was pretending to be scared, unknown to Luna, everything is sent spiraling again. Luna scares the Ponyvillians, cancels Nightmare Night forever, and sulks off. I entirely blame Pinkie for this. But with help from Twilight once again, Luna scares the Ponyvillians again. But this time, she shows herself and tells them not be frightened. She and everyone become friends and Nightmare Night continues on."
I popped the speech bubble and took a deep breath.
"What would be your favorite theory on the show?"
"The 4 friends one."
"What's that?"
"It's about how Luna, Celestia , Discord, and Sombra used to be friends."
Dr. Wolf nodded with silent "Mmhmms."
"Would you mind telling me a story?"
I opened my mouth, making a green rimmed speech bubble.
"Sure. But don't be mad if it's not a good one."
I pulled out my storybook and began reading.
Luna sat on her personal cloud, raising the moons and stars. She looked down over her shared kingdom and sighed.
"At least it is more loved now than it was before."
Luna smiled small at the few ponies walking out of their homes and climbing up onto hill tops. They pulled out telescopes and set up tents, Luna assuming they were graphing her stars. She sighed again and hung her head.
"Why are you alone?"
Luna turned around to see her sister, Celestia. The white-pinkish alicorn landed next to her on her own cloud.
"It is nothing, sister. We-"
Luna stopped herself and began again.
"I'm just a little sad is all."
"Why is that?"
"Because of the past."
"Nightmare Moon is-"
"No, Tia! It's not because of that! It's what happened to mother and father."
Celestia gasped quietly and wrapped a hoof around her now-crying sister.
Filly Celestia and Luna were hiding behind a pillow castle wall. Celestia held a wooden sword in her mouth, while Luna held a spear. Luna risked a look out.
Only to be hit in the face with a blue pillow.
She laughed and ducked back down.
"Captain Tia! The rival army's attack!"
"Fire the canons!"
Luna and Celestia took to the pillow canons and began firing at their attackers.
Young Discord and Sombra, back when he wasn't a big crystal-loving jerk obsessed with stairs.
The two boys laughed and ducked back down.
"I'll be darned if these girls win, Corporal Sombra!"
"Maybe we should go in for a raid, Sergeant Discord?"
"Good idea! Set up the decoys!"
Using their magic, Discord and Sombra made realistic holograms of themselves. They heard the girls continue to fire and snuck off to raid Alicorn Castle.
Luna and Celestia continued to fire, unknown to the presences sneaking around behind them.
That was until Luna shot the hologram.
The pillow went straight though the picture.
"Captain Tia! It was a trap!"
"Oh-no! Where could they be?"
"Right here!"
The group of 4 laughed as they tumbled out of the pillow kingdom and onto the blanketed floor. They began battling with wooden weapons.
That was until the door opened.
They looked over in the direction of said door. It was Celestia and Luna's parents.
Their mom, Hēliota, was white. Her hooves faded into arrays of reds, oranges, and yellows, sun-like sparkles on them. Her mane flowed graciously, the orange-rimmed red sparkling with heat. Her tail flowed with her mane. She had crimson eyes.
Their dad, Mensistor, was very dark blue. His hooves faded into even deeper colors, stars on them. His mane flowed beautifully, the blue-rimmed black twinkle with stars. His tail followed suit. He had purple eyes.
"Come on, you little pirates."
Discord and Sombra looked offended and Mensistor laughed.
"And army brats."
"It's time for lunch."
The kiss cheered and stormed out the room. Their parents laughed and followed after them.
The kids were peacefully eating at the table. Their parents had given out their lunch boxes and were now in the living room. Mensistor and Hēliota nodded and walked into the living room themselves.
Celestia swallowed a piece of her banana.
"It's so great that you guys can sleep over!"
Discord sipped on his chocolate milk. He swallowed and turned to his friends.
"Of course, my dear Tia! It's always a pleasure."
Discord kissed the filly's hoof, causing her to blush. The younger ones just gagged.
"Come on, Dizzy!"
"Tia, stop it!"
The older ones laughed and returned to their lunch. Sombra poked through his crystal gummies, looking for a grape one. He found his prize and happily popped it into his mouth.
"So what's on the checklist for tonight?"
Luna smiled and pulled out said checklist.
"First, Pirates vs Army!"
Everyone high-hoofed.
"Then, we build a massive pillow fort to sleep under."
Celestia smiled at the pillow Discord summoned.
"Then, we make endless amounts of popcorn and have a chugging contest."
Sombra put on a look of confidence.
"Finally, we watch movies until we pass out!"
They cheered and high-hoofed. They packed up their lunches and ran back upstairs.
Chaos and Pandora, Discord's parents, smiled at the children and laughed.
Crystal and Umbra, Sombra's parents, shook their heads all smiles.
"Chug-a-lug! Chug-a-lug! Chug-a-lug!"
Celestia and Luna were cheering on Discord and Sombra as they gulped down drinks without pause. Sombra removed his can and crushed it against his forehead, showing he had won.
Discord removed his in defeat.
"Ah, man! Come on!"
Luna pulled out the score board.
"So that's 3 for Sombra, 2 for Discord, 1 for me, and none for Tia."
Everyone laughed as the white filly blushed and shrugged. Discord finished his soda and crushed his own can.
"Alright what's next?"
"Uh, movie time!"
Celestia picked up a basket of movies and dumped them in the floor. Discord immediately picked up one.
"This is a good one!"
Celestia looked at the movie in his paw and claw.
"PonaNorman? Sure, why not?"
Luna took the movie from Discord and put it in the player. She pressed play and the movie started up.
They had watch 8 full movies, started on the 9th but crashed in the middle.
Sun rays penetrated Sombra's sleep, rousing him awake. He opened his eyes with a groan and rolled over.
Only to touch noses with Luna.
The colt blushed and scooched over. He stood up and stretched. He saw the movie select screen still playing and shut it off. He walked into the kitchen, looking for something use as his breakfast.
The sounds of yawning and stretching picked up in his ears. He turned his head to see his friends.
Discord was flying above everyone else, rubbing his eyes drowsily.
"Where's breakfast, Som?"
"I don't know. Usually, Ms. Hēliota is cooking or it's already out."
Luna yawned and stretched again.
"Let's go to their room to find out."
The group of 4 nodded and began to ascend the stairs to the royal quarters.
Celestia placed three tired knocks on the door. It only a few seconds after, revealing a tired and scruffy Mensistor.
"Oh, hey kids."
Hēliota flailed her front hooves.
"Honey, shut the door. I've already risen the sun! I don't need more light."
"It's just the kids, sweetie. Now, what do you want?"
"We're hungry."
"Could you make breakfast?"
Mensistor's head made a thunking nose as it banged against the doorframe.
"J-just eat the rest of your lunch. We have had a long night."
Mensistor kissed his daughters and hoof-bumped the boys. He turned and walked back into his room.
After brunch, the 4 kids were playing Call of Cutie, ZomPs mode, in the living room.
"Lulu, how are you so good at this?"
"I know! I'm the only one with thumbs and I'm still losing!"
The lunar filly shrugged and continued to headshot ponies.
Soon, everyone had enough of Luna's winning and they switch to Pontal 2, taking turns of course.
Suddenly, Discord's controller turned into a glass of vanilla milk. He smiled and changed it back.
He didn't even have to turn around to know who just showed up.
"Hey, son!"
"Hi mom! Hi dad!"
Chaos ruffled Discord's hair, while Pandora gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"Time to come home now, Dizzy."
"You too, Sombra."
Crystal and Umbra walked through the door.
"Aw! Can't we just stay for a while longer? Please?"
They all smirked at each other.
"What do you think, Chaos?"
"I'm not sure, Crystal. Pandora, what do you think?"
"Nope. I think they should come. You too, Umbra?"
"Yeah, they should come on home."
Discord and Sombra went to their last resort.
Puppy dog eyes.
Their parents tried to look away, but to no avail.
"Fine! You have until Mensistor raises the moon!"
"Just turn them off!"
They blinked a few times before high-hoofing. They hugged their parents and continued playing. The adults shuddered and walked away.
Sombra sent his character into an falling loop and set down the controller, breaking the magical grasp.
"I'm bored. Let's go play outside!"
"Ok! But we have to ask Mom and Dad."
Celestia and Luna set down their controllers and ran upstairs. After a few minutes, they came back down.
"Let's go!"
Everyone cheered and grabbed something to play with. They opened the door and ran outside.
Sombra and Luna were playing catch, while Discord and Celestia had a jump rope battle.
Until a rumble shook the ground.
The 4 kids stopped immediately.
"What was that?"
They began looking around for the source of the rumbling. Discord tripped and fell to the ground as the rumbling got louder.
A large figure began to rise from over the horizon.
Hēliota stuck her head out the window. She looked down at the kids.
"Get in the house now!"
The kids scrambled into the castle as Hēliota and Mensistor flew out the window.
The older alicorns sent magical signals into the air.
Crystal and Umbra turned around and came running, while Chaos and Pandora merely appeared to them.
"What's wrong?"
"He's here."
They all looked over the horizon, the problem now clear.
They all pulled out their element weapon and took their stance.
The kids were watching from the window, mouths agape.
The kids ran outside, disobeying everything they had learned.
They all broke out into tears and wrapped their arms around their parents.
"Cel-estia."
The crying filly looked at her mom, hope in her eyes.
"Mom!"
"Touch m-my horn with y-yours."
"L-una. Touch y-yours to mine."
They alicorn fillies did as they were told.
"D-discord, g-rab our p-paws."
The young draconequus took their bleeding paws.
"Som-bra. Touch o-our horns."
The crystal prince did as he was told.
The rulers began transferring their powers to their children.
Hēliota and Mensistor's cutie marks faded and their eyes dulled.
Chaos and Pandora's wings and horns lost their a color.
Crystal and Umbra's cutie marks faded, theirs eyes dulled, and their horns lost their tints.
The rulers uttered one last sentence.
"We love you."
Light over took each child.
Green and blue added themselves to Celestia's pink mane and tail and they began to flow and sparkle. Her eyes were solid white and magic pulsated around her horn.
Luna's mane became milky and wavy. It darkened to a very dark blue and began sparkling. Her eyes were solid white and her horn glowed with magic.
Discord's wings and horns became more vibrant in color. His tail fluff grew into a large claw. His eyes were solid white and his paws sparkled with magic.
Sombra's horn tip bubbled to red and his coat darkened. Fangs grew in his mouth. His eyes were solid white and his horn shimmered with magic.
Tirek's eyes widen at the sight.
"You killed our parents!"
The 4 kids picked up their parents weapons and stabbed Tirek. The demon dissolved into black nothingness and blew away.
Their eyes faded back to their original color. The four kids panted and dropped the elemental weapons. They turned toward their parents.
They walked over to them and kneeled.
Celestia removed her mothers crestlock, crown, and shoes.
Luna removed her fathers crestlock, crown, and shoes.
Discord removed his fathers chestplate and his mothers helmet and visor. He caught a glimpse of his eyes. They were yellow and red now.
Sombra removed his father's crestlock and crown and his mothers cape and shoes.
They each took a deep breath and put on the items.
Celestia was first to speak.
"Our parents are gone."
Everyone looked at her.
"We are now the rulers of Equestria."
The four kids nodded and looked back at their parents. Discord snapped and 6 coffins appeared.
"Thank you, Lord Discord."
"No problem, Princess Celestia."
The kids levitated their parents into the coffins. They buried them in a small circle of trees, placing flowers and tombstones with them.
They all took a deep breath and looked at each other.
"Well, I guess this is goodbye."
"I guess so."
They all took a deep breath and kneeled to each other.
"Princess Celestia."
"King Sombra."
"Lord Discord."
"Princess Luna."
They rose up and turned their backs to each other.
They walked to their kingdoms, heavy hearts and tears in their eyes.
Over the years, the new rulers grew more powerful.
And more distant.
Their kingdoms battled and fought each other, even one point encasing the Draconequus Lord in stone.
Celestia and Luna defeated Sombra, with unknown heavy-hearts.
The sun princess had enough and got Twilight and her friends to reform Discord. She couldn't be happier to see her old friend again. But they have yet to see Sombra again.
Celestia and Luna sat in their clouds, crying as they remember their past. The sun princess jumped at the sudden hand on her back.
"Easy. It's just me."
Discord sat down on his own cloud next to the princess.
"Discord..."
"I know. I miss him too."
They looked out over the horizon.
"But when he comes back, we can reform him to. Then we can all be friends again."
The group of three hugged.
Sombra looked out of his cave, up at the glowing moon. He bowed his head in despair. He tapped the ground in front of him, growing 4 crystals.
One was white.
The other was blue.
Another was brown.
And the last one was black.
He broke the black one and sighed.
"I miss you too."
He removed his crown and placed it on the ground next to him. He let out another sigh and looked over to his used-to-be-kingdom. He wasn't to worried, seeing as how he could just build another one.
Discord gave the Princesses each one more hug before returning to the Chaos Kingdom. He walked into his quarters, removing his headgear with a heavy sigh.
The Princesses returned to their own quarters. Celestia laid down on the pillows on her velvet bed. Luna fell back onto her own pillows. They both let out a sigh.
