Chrysalis walked through her hive’s cave. It’s been about three months since her failed attempt to take Canterlot. Since then, things got even worse than before the Canterlot invasion. Thousands of her subjects are dead and food reserves are low, very low. There were only fifty Changelings remaining, thirty of them guards, nineteen, nobles and her sister, Cavatica.

If there was one thing similar about her and Celestia, it was they loved their little sisters very much and have failed their duty as older sisters. Cavatica suggested that they should ask the ponies for help instead of attacking them, but Chrysalis was too impatient to wait for politics to help her. Her subjects needed food now so she choose to ignore her sister. And now Cavatica is paying the price for her failure.

Chrysalis approached the main cave chamber, where all of the surviving changelings reside. The sound of coughing and groaning from fifty changelings filled the chamber. The only reason they were alive at all at this point is because of the life support spell she casted upon them. She walked towards her sister, doing her best to look strong for the subjects that surrounded Cavatica. Cavatica slowly opened her eyes, as she saw Chrysalis, she gave a small smile upon see her sister.

“Hello Chrysy.” She said weakly. Chrysalis lied down beside her sister.

“Hello Cava, how are you doing today?” She asked, her eyes starting to tear up a little from the sight of pain her sister and subjects are in. The pain caused by her.

Cavatica coughed very loudly before replying, “Aside from the coughing and pain, pretty good.” Cavatica was still smiling. How can she still be smiling in a time like this, while in so much pain?, Chrysalis thought.

“I’m so sorry this all happened, Cava. I should’ve just listened to you from the beginning.” At this point, tears were going down Chrysalis face. So much for looking strong for the others., she thought.

“Hey, you have nothing to be sorry about…..ok maybe a little. But you were doing what you thought was right for our subjects. Nothing more, no-” her loud coughing cutted her sentence off, “nothing less. Sides, you were always stubborn like that.”

“And look where that got us.” Chrysalis looked away from her sister. Cavatica slowly brought her hoof up and gently moved Chrysalis face back towards her.

“You are a great leader Chrysy, the only reasons those mistakes happened was because you were under stress.”

“Thanks but it still doesn’t make me feel better.”

Cavatica coughed loudly once more, “Well, if that doesn’t then I hope what I’m about to tell you will. I just remembered a way to get our race back on their hooves.”

Chrysalis was nothing if not surprised by this. “You do?” she asked.

Cavatica’s smile grew a little larger. “Knew that would make you better. But yes, I do. Are you willing to listen this time big sis?”

“Of course. I’d do anything if it meant the survival of our race.”

“Good. Now it’s pretty simple. All you need to do is gather a bunch of love-” She was cut off once again by her coughing, “and then lay eggs.”

“Of course. The fail safe plan established by our ancestors. How could’ve I forgot?” Chrysalis remembered learning about the fail safe when she was in her teens.

“Because, it required the queen to find true love in order to be completed with no spells, potions, ect. and you didn’t exactly like that part of the fail safe.” Cava answered her.

So that’s why I forgot. Damn you ancestors. Damn you. Chrysalis thought. But if it’s a chance to redeem myself for my mistakes and save my people then…….

“I’ll do it.” Chrysalis said strongly.

Cava coughed again. It wasn’t as loud, but it was still loud enough. “Good. The nearest town from here is Ponyville. I think you should start there.”

“Alright, Cava. I promise you that you will see the light from outside and see our race rise again. I will not let you down.” Chrysalis said, with full on waterworks coming from her eyes.

“Thanks sis. Now get going, will ya?”

Chrysalis nodded, got up and galloped out of the room. She galloped all the way to the entrance of the cave where at that point she flew the rest of the way to Ponyville.

It was around midnight when Chrysalis landed inside a bush near a giant tree. She stuck her head out of the bush to get a better look at the front entrance of the tree. There was a red door that lead inside, nearby there was a large sign that read ‘Golden Oaks Library’. The windows were still lit so that meant the librarian hasn’t left yet. She went back down to the bush and started thinking of a disguise to enter with. Suddenly there was a green flash, then a Pegasus came out of the bush and started heading towards the door to the Golden Oaks Library.

Twilight Sparkle placed the book ‘Fallout Equestria’ back to it’s respective spot. That was such a great read. So dark and so much adventure! I wonder which one I should read, her thought process was interrupted when there was a knock on the door. That’s strange. No pony usually comes to the library at night. Twilight looked at the clock hanging from her wall. It read ‘12:23’. Especially at this hour. Twilight cautiously approached the door. There was another knock on the door, faster and louder than the last one.

She opened the door to reveal a pink Pegasus mare with a dark pink mane and tail. Her cutie was one big red heart and two smaller maroon ones on the side. I’ve never seen her around before. Better run the spells just to be sure. Twilight’s horn lit up as she casted the Changeling Revealing spell she created for the Royal Guards on the mare. She also casted a lie detection spell on the mare as well. She levitated a book next to her to hide the spells.

“Hello there. May you be so kind as to help me? My filly ripped up my copy of ‘Maximum Ride: Saving the World’ a week ago and my new copy won’t come in the mail for another month and I still haven’t finish it.” The mare said. Twilight heard a loud beep from her head. Strike one. Now to wait a bit till the Revealing spell is done to see if you’re a Changeling or not.

“I think I might have that book somewhere around here, But why don’t you tell me your name first?” Twilight asked. The mare looked shocked for a second before returning to her normal state.

“Oh, of course. How rude of me. My name is Radiant Love.” The mare replied. Another loud beep rang out through Twilight’s brain. Strike 2, and since she tried to stalled a little when I asked that’s strike 3. Now let’s see who you really are. The spell finished to reveal something Twilight wasn’t expecting. Chrysalis. Twi almost lost her act when the spell was done, but she remained calm. Twilight deactivated the spells and levitated the book back to it’s respective place on the shelves.

“Well, come inside and let’s see if we can’t find you it.” Twilight motioned the Changeling inside. While most would make an excuse and close the door at that point, Twilight saw an opportunity to trap their leader and bring her to Celestia.

Chrysalis walked inside and took look around. Books filled every single shelf. There were practically no empty spots in the shelves at all. All of them were neatly shelved next to one another in a very organized manner. Twilight closed and locked the door to make sure she wouldn’t try for that way.

“So,” Twilight started, “what book was it that you need again Radiant Love, or should I say, Chrysalis?” Twilight confronted. Chrysalis jumped in surprise but then remembered who she was dealing with here. The only pony who suspect her disguise at the Canterlot Wedding. She smiled lightly as a green flash lighted up the room. When the light died down, in place of Radiant Love was the Changeling Queen in her full glory.

“You were always the observant one weren't you little brat?” Chrysalis playfully asked. Twilight put on a more serious face.

“Thank you for the compliment. Now what are you doing here?”

“Oh, you’ve learned sarcasm. That’s good.” Twilight grew more angry at Chrysalis joking. She let out a low growl.

“But if you must know, I am need of assistance.” Twilight backed off from Chrysalis, surprised at what she said.

“What?” Twilight replied. Chrysalis groaned at the purple Unicorn’s response.

“I need to rebuild. You see, 4 months before the Canterlot Wedding happened was the downfall of my race. Skipping to now, my race is down to nearly extinction due to my stupidity. Also before you ask, I had no idea you were even here. I was just hoping to ask the librarian in town where I could find a place to sleep. Afterwards I would start with my plan.”

“AH HA!” Twilight exclaimed, pointing her hoof at the queen. “I knew you were trying to pull another Canterlot wedding!” Chrysalis looked surprised at first but then started to giggle. At this point, Twilight was almost broken by the queen’s giggling. I have to be dreaming. This is a dream, right?, Twilight thought.

“You’re such a fool. If I wanted to do that, which I don’t by the way, I would’ve brought my army here, but I didn’t, as most of them are dead.” Twilight felt embarrassed as she just remembered that the Chrysalis just said her race was at near extinction.

“Now please let me finish. As I was saying, my plan is to establish my presence here as a pony by finding permanent residence and acquiring a job. Afterwards I will search for my-” Chrysalis took a moment to fake gag, “-my true love as they are needed in order for me to rebuild.” Twilight was now very interested in what Chrysalis was saying. The ability to practically revive an entire race was amazing.

“Um……. so how does finding your ‘true love’ works for a Changeling?” Twilight asked.

“It’s simple really,” Chrysalis answered, “I must use no outside force to have the mate in question fall in love with me so that means no spells or potions. The mate must also know that I am actually a Changeling and still love me even though I’m a Changeling which the last part could be rather difficult considering.” Twilight gave a ‘really’ look to the queen. The changeling merely responded with a sigh.

“Well it is late, so I ask you Twilight Sparkle, where is the nearest inn from here?”

“Well, there is only one inn here in Ponyville. and it’s all the way across town, to the west so I’m afraid you’ll have to sleep here tonight. I’ll take out the extra bed.” Twilight headed upstairs while Chrysalis stood there, surprised at what the pony just said. After all that has happened, she’s still so kind. Now the question is, why? Chrysalis went upstairs after a few moments of standing. Twilight was no where to be seen. There was a bed with a moon and sun styled blanket. Nearby was an open book on the desk nearby as well as some sketches of Changelings. This intrigued the queen so she wanted a closer look. As she walked up closer to the desk, she found out that the book was actually a book being written. So the little brat was studying us., Chrysalis thought. There was a very loud cough behind her so she turned around to see Twilight Sparkle giving a small smile.

“So,” Chrysalis started, “are you painting us as monsters in this book of yours brat?”

Surprisingly the Unicorn answered, “No. I am painting you as a normal species but without a real Changeling to help-”

“Okay, okay brat. I see where you’re getting at. You want me to teach you all about the Changelings don’t you?”

“Yes.” Twilight answered, “How did you-”

“Guess?” Chrysalis cut Twilight off again, “Easy. You hid somewhere or casted an invisibility spell on yourself so I can’t see you, leave your book conveniently on your desk as well as your sketches so I can find it purposely so then you can confront me and ask me if I can help you on your endeavor which the answer is yes, but under some conditions of course.” Twilight was annoyed by the fact she had to meet conditions but she didn’t exactly had a choice in the matter. She needed the information on the Changelings and Chrysalis was her only choice at the moment.

She let out a sigh before saying, “And what are your conditions?” Chrysalis smiled at the Unicorn’s cooperativeness.

“One, you must not tell your Princess of my current location. Two, you must help find me permanent residence, and three, you must help me find a job.” The Changeling replied.

“As much as I don’t like the first one, I will comply. The second one is easily solved as there are some houses up for sale that I have enough money to buy. The third we can talk about later.” Twilight let out a loud yawn, “I need to sleep.”

“Excellent. I believe we’re done here.”

“Good, now. Get.Out.Of.My.Tree.” Twilight stated. Chrysalis was taken aback by this sudden mood change.

“And why, are you kicking me out?” Chrysalis lowered her eyes in a threatening manner.

Twilight lowered her eyes in the same manner. “Because, one, I don’t have the second bed since I sold it due to the fact I haven’t had anyone over in a year. Second, I’m willing to help you but I don’t trust you so you’re going to have to go to the inn.” Chrysalis let out a growl at Twilight before there was a flash of green light. The light died down to reveal Radiant Love was there instead of Chrysalis.

“Fine,” she started, “but you better live up to the conditions.”

Twilight nodded her head. “I am. I’m not a liar like you Chrysalis.” The queen decided she had enough with the Unicorn and simply walked passed her. Moments later, Twilight heard a loud slam from downstairs.

Chrysalis flew through the air, throwing curse words left and right, up and down in hopes of releasing her anger. That shit bag!, she thought. She tricked me! How did I let her trick me! The queen let out a loud groan. I would’ve so love to strangle the little bitch if I didn’t need to use her. She spotted the inn down below. Nearby was a building that looked like it was made of sweets. Chrysalis glided down and gracefully landed in front of the inn. There was a sign hanging by the door the read ‘Hoofton Inn’. The building itself was much like the others around it, besides the fact it looked big enough to hold around 30 ponies. She opened the door as she was greeted by a bright light.

After it died down, she saw a dark blue stallion Earth Pony, with no mane, sitting behind a desk, reading a book. Chrysalis walked towards the desk and discovered that the stallion was reading ‘Maximum Ride: Saving the World’. That is simply too convenient., Chrysalis thought. She ranged the bell on the desk nearby to get the stallion’s attention. He didn’t look up. Chrysalis then decided to give a cough towards the stallion. No reaction. That’s it! She slammed her hooves down the desk and the stallion fell off his chair in surprise. Serves you right. The stallion looked up to see Chrysalis giving him the stink eye.

He quickly got up and said, “Welcome to the Hoofton Inn, ma’am. Would you like a hard or a soft bed?”

“Hard one.” She replied. The stallion went under the desk and came back up with a key to a room.

“Right hallway, down three doors, to your left. Please, enjoy your stay.” Chrysalis rolled her eyes and took the key. She followed the stallion’s directions and found that she got room five. She unlocked the room and took a look around. There was a desk, a bookshelf full of books, a bed, and window. Nice and simple. She thought. She put the key down on the desk and jumped onto the bed. Chrysalis let out a quiet moan as she relaxed on the bed. Nice and hard. Just the way I like it. She then closed her eyes slept.

Chrysalis shut her eyes as tight as she could, trying to block the light. Turn it down Princess., she thought. There are some beings that are still sleeping. She turned away from from the window. That’s better. Then there was a knock at the door. Chrysalis groaned before yelling out, “Five more minutes!”.

Chrysalis covered her ears with her pillow as the knocking continued. She finally gave up, as she walked up towards the door. She opened the door to meet a grey Pegasus mare, with a yellow mane with the craziest eyes Chrysalis has ever seen. The Pegasus was in a blue mail carrier outfit with a bag strapped around her. She dug into her bag and pulled out a letter, a pretty big bag and a red purse with a strap.

“Delivery for you.” the mare cheerfully said. She gave Chrysalis the items and then flew off, but not before accidently hitting a wall in front of her due to going too fast. Chrysalis shook her head as she took the items the mare delivered, put them desk and opened the letter.

Chrysalis read out loud, “Dear Radiant Love(Chrysalis), by the time you get this letter it should be 10:31 am sharp. Inside the bag is six thousand bits, enough to pay a house, some furniture, food (if you can even eat our food that is) to sustain you for two weeks. I sent the mayor a letter about you and she is ready to speak to you about housing options. Go to her ASAP. Town Hall is the tallest building in Ponyville so you shouldn’t miss it. Nearby is a furniture store, go there next. I sent a letter to the owner and he will get you some furniture for free. He owes me a favor so there should be no resistant. However, he may still charge you on delivery Afterwards I’ll give you five days including today to settle into Ponyville. On Saturday, 03:02 pm sharp, meet me the restaurant near my tree to discuss job options. From, Twilight Sparkle. PS, found the purse a week ago while cleaning the library. Put it to good use. PSS Just because I'm helping you doesn't mean I like you. You are a means to an end. Nothing more, nothing less.”

The queen chuckled. Just as you are to me, Sparkler. She looked over at the bag on the desk, grabbed it and poured all the bits out of it. Chrysalis then started counting the bits to make sure it was all there. Thirty minutes later, Chrysalis counted all six thousand bits. She is definitely living up to her word. But how did she get this kind of money. Either she’s been saving up because she didn’t really use the money she earned, or she asked the Princesses for the bits which would mean I might be revealed. Better be on guard. Chrysalis thought. She had to be on the lookout for guards in case she was revealed by the brat.

Chrysalis took the purse and put it around her neck, then proceeded to put the letter and the bits inside the purse. She then grabbed the key and walked into the hallway. She turned the corner to see that the stupid ass stallion was still there. She went up to the front desk, slammed the key on the desk which in turn surprised the stallion again and then walked out the front door.

The Changeling walked through the streets of Ponyville, looking at the buildings, and ponies around her. This is weird, she thought. All these ponies smiling and being so nice to each other. Chrysalis sighed. At least I’m getting a decent breakfast out of these good emotions. She continued walking until she found a very tall, cylinder like building. That must be the Town Hall. She entered the building and found a cyan Earth pony mare, with vanilla colored mane and an orange flower attached to her right ear, sitting behind the desk. And she’s reading a gossip magazine. Excellent. More idiots hooked onto their reading material.

Chrysalis walked towards the mare, and rang the bell on the desk nearby. Surprisingly with an almost instantaneous response time, the mare closed up her magazine, looked at the changeling straight in the eye and said, “Welcome to Ponyville Town Hall, ma’am. How may I help you today.” Impressive. Chrysalis thought. Almost as fast my personal guard’s response time. Almost.

“Ma’am? Was there anything I may help you with?” the mare repeated. Chrysalis glared at the mare. And three times more the hard ass I see.

“Yes,” Chrysalis started, “I wish to purchase a house here in Ponyville and I was told by an acquaintance that there were a few available?”

“And who was this acquaintance?” the mare question. Keep it up, you’ll leave in a bag and into a hole in the ground.

“Twilight Sparkle.” The queen answered confidently.

“Uh huh.” the mare rummaged through the her papers, “And you wouldn’t happen to be Radiant Love, would you?”

“Yes, I am.”

“Excellent. We’ve been expecting you ma’am. Now unfortunately, the mayor is not available at the current moment. But I was told that you could take a look at the houses before hoof. Would you like to?” Chrysalis nodded her head.

“Alrighty then. Well there are three houses available. Here.” the mare grabbed a grabbed a map and gave it to Chrysalis, “This map shows you where the houses up for sale are located.”

“Thank you.” The changeling said, As much as I hate to say it, and headed for the doors.

“You’re welcome ma’am.” The mare waved Chrysalis good-bye. After she left, the mare opened her magazine to the page she was reading.

Then I take a left I should be here. She looked up from her map and saw a narrow looking house in front of her. Immediately she started taking tactical advantages and disadvantages of living there. Pros, close to the ponies so I’m able to get a free breakfast, and close to the stores so I can buy what I need easily. Cons, closer to the ponies means more risk of getting caught, no easy escape routes if the guards find me here. Too much noise here as well. This place is perfect for someone normal. A war criminal, not so much. Chrysalis looked pulled her map up and took at a look at the next closest house. On the outskirts of town. This should be interesting. She decided to fly over there as she was getting tired of walking around.

Chrysalis took one look at the house and instantly said 'No'. She was at the house on the outskirts of town. There is no tactical advantage here at all besides having something ugly to look at. She looked towards her right to see a beautiful field in the horizon. I’m going to the next house. The queen pulled up her map and spotted the next house that appeared to be near the Everfree Forest. Now THIS one, this one will be fun. Then she took to the air.

The Changeling queen rarely thought things a pony would think beautiful, beautiful. But she had to admit that the placement of the house, wasn’t that bad. There were meadows of flowers everywhere the eye could see, and behind the house was the ‘dangerous’ Everfree Forest in the distance. Away from the ponies, guards will think twice about coming here and an easy escape into the forest. Only disadvantage is the distance from town and the lack of good emotions which means I’ll have to stock up in food to eat. She looked around one more time before deciding, This is the one. She then started flying her way back into town.

It was around 2:34 by the time Chrysalis landed in front of Town Hall and entered the building. The blue mare was still sitting behind the desk, this time looking through some papers. Chrysalis only managed six steps towards the mare before she looked up, saw Chrysalis, and waved her over. I want her to be one of my guards. Chrysalis waked on over.

As soon as she got close enough to hear, the mare said, “Have you found a house that suits your needs?” The Changeling simply nodded her head.

“Good. I shall call the mayor down now. Please wait here.” The mare then got up and went upstairs. The mare came back a few moments later with a brown Earth Pony mare, with a grey mane, wearing a pair of glasses, along with her. The first mare walked back behind the desk while the second greeted Chrysalis.

“Good evening Miss.Love. I am Mayor Mare. I understand you wish to buy a house here?” The mayor asked. Chrysalis nodded. Gee whiz, Bat-Mare. How did you know?

“Splendid. Which one would you like to buy?”

Chrysalis replied, “The one near the Everfree.” As soon as she said that, the mayor looked liked she saw a ghost for a moment before going back to normal.

“Um….are you absolutely certain that you want to live there?”

“Yes. Now how many bits we talking about here?” Mayor Mare shook her head a little before looking back at Chrysalis.

“Well, alright then. For that house, we need you to pay one thousand, two hundred bits.”

Chrysalis eyes lowered. “What’s the catch?”

“Catch?” The queen rolled her eyes.

“Yes, the catch. Houses are never that cheap unless it is in low demand. Now is it in low demand or is there a catch here?”

“Ah, I see. I have you know that that residential buildings aren’t in high demand around Ponyville.”

“Good.” Chrysalis took out her bag of bits and counted out one thousand, two hundred bits quickly, then put the bag back in her purse.

“There you go.” Chrysalis made a mental note of how many bits she currently has. I am now down to four thousand, eight hundred bits.

The mayor smiled. “Thank you for deciding to live in Ponyville. I hope you enjoy living here.” With that, Chrysalis turned around and exited the building.

There was a ding as Chrysalis entered and looked around the furniture store, Twilight mentioned. It was a particularly small store considering that it was a furniture store. Simple forest green walls and wood paneled floors along with coaches, beds, table tops, dressers, closets, bookshelves, coffee tables, dining table and more decorated the store. At the other end of the store was a brown Unicorn stallion with no mane, sitting behind the counter.

Chrysalis approached the stallion as he greeted her, "Welcome to the 'Furniture Works', where every item here is made by my expert works only. Well, the wood stuff anyway. Anything soft would be made by my sister, Soft Weave. I'm the owner, Wood Fixer. Now, what do I owe the pleasure?"

"I am a friend of Twilight Sparkle." Chrysalis replied.

"Ah, you must be Radiant Love. Twilight saved me from a bunch of Timber Wolves last month while I was gathering wood, so anything she needs, I got her back."

"I assume you got her letter then?"

"Absolutely." The stallion's horn lit up as a notepad and came from under the counter, "Now here's how this is gonna work. First you tell me things I can make first, then tell me things my sister can make for you, alright?" Chrysalis nodded her head.

"Excellent. Now, tell me what you need?"

"From you, I need a king size bed, two bedside tables, a dresser, a coffee table, a bookshelf, dining table, two table tops and four to eight chairs for the dining table. From your sister I need, two sofas, a hard king sized mattress, and two rugs." Fixer finished up writing on the notepad and gave a nice whistle.

"Now I'm glad we make a bunch of furniture before hoof. When and where would you like these delivered?"

"The house near the Everfree Forest, between 10:00 pm and 12:00 am."

"Alright. Now, not to sound greedy but if you want us to deliver that late and distance, I'm going to need one hundred, fifty bits." Chrysalis groaned as she took out her bit bag and counted out the amount of bits required. After she, was done she put the bit bag back in her purse while the Fixer smiled.

"Thank you, anything else you need?"

"Yeah, I need you to go fuck yourself." She replied in a deadpan voice.

Fixer laughed before saying, "I'll be sure to do that ma'am. You have a nice day now." Happy thoughts Chrysalis. You kill this idiot and your sister will die. Restrain yourself., Chrysy thought as she exited the shop.

Chrysalis got up from the floor as there was a knock on the door. About time they got here. I thought I was going to have to sleep on the floor tonight. There was a flash of green once again and out came Radiant Love out of it. She went towards the door and opened it. There once again was Wood Fixer. He was pulling a wagon full of the stuff she ordered.

"Thank you for getting these here. I don't want to sleep on the floor tonight." The agony of being nice. Why the agony?

"No problem. Let me get these inside for you." Fixer replied. Moments later the rugs were surrounded by Fixer's magic and were levitated inside.

An hour of positioning furniture later, everything was in place. Fixer had left and Chrysalis now had a home fit for a war criminal in hiding. She let out a loud yawn as she walked towards her newly established bedroom and plopped herself on the bed. She had a busy week ahead of her and she was going to get the sleep needed.
