> Vinyl's interview > by the_guy > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The Interview > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The spot light shone on her face, blinding her for a short time. She was sitting in what seemed it could be anypony's living room. Vinyl decided to look around the room, it was a familiar sight, the set she was sitting on was roomy and comfortable, but off the set, where all the cameras are, it was grey and featureless, aside from the odd chair and extra props. there were ponies running around everywhere, setting up for the quickly coming interview. Vinyl had done plenty of interviews before, all of them fairly similar, they all asked about up and coming projects and songs, and also about her current life. She answered all of those questions honestly, but never gave out information. Vinyl never had an interview with these people, probably because by TV standards they were pretty new program, going by the name of Pony Time Central, or PTC. Vinyl waited patiently on the chair she was given, though it was comfy, she was starting to get anxious. Soon though however, some pony walked in groomed very nicely. The first thing Vinyl noticed aside from his light-brown hair, and that he was an earth pony, was his cutey mark. it was an old fashioned notebook with a feather pen resting on top of it, clearly making him the interviewer. As he walked over and sat down across from Vinyl she noticed a sense of pride from him, which she liked. He looked at her, gave a sort of satisfying smile, and said. "Hello there, the names Grey Graphite, but you can call me grey!" "Hi, said Vinyl, I hope you mean that we are starting soon." "Yes very soon." Right as grey said that, the director started shouting orders "Alright everypony, he said, PLACES!" As more lights went up, a catchy tune started playing. Just before the tune ended Grey started to talk. "Hello everypony," he said,"my name is Grey Graphite, and i'm here with my guest Dj Pon-3. How do you do mam?" "I'm fine, thank you." Vinyl continued, "Please though, call me Vinyl, Dj Pon-3 is my stage name." "Alright, thank you. So, lets get this interview started shall we?" Grey said. "Yes, lets! She replied." "OK, to start this off, just because i was told to ask this, do you have any plans for the future, with your music?" He asked. "Well," she replied, "right now, i have nothing on the plate, but I have been thinking that I should make a... Oh how should I say?... An Explosion." "Hhhmm interesting, very interesting. Well then be sure to look out for her new "Explosion"." He noted. "Now, time for the part I have been wanting to know ever since you made it to the big show, Vinyl, I want to know about your past. I want to know all about you when you were becoming a rising star, when you were a young filly! Your ups and downs. I want to know everything about your past!" This startled Vinyl, she had never been asked this before. The emotion is Grey's voice was very unexpected, and almost alien. The question caught her off guard, it took her a little bit to recover. Vinyl replied. "M... MY past Umm, well, I have no problem answering this question, but if you want the full story, this will take a long time." "That's great!" He almost yelled. "This is just the scoop this channel needs right now! Lets get started, we have plenty of time!" Right then the director decided to voice his concern. "HEY GREY, I DONT THINK..." "Lets get started." Grey interrupted. "We have plenty of time.." Vinyl looked over at the director to see if he had anymore objections. He sat down, crossed his arms and legs, and said not much more from then on. So vinyl started "Well... it all started... many years ago, when I was a little filly." > discovery > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vinyl started her story. "One time when I was about ten my mom took me to the market. We lived in the outskirts of town, so when my mom took me to the market I would always got so exited, because from the first time my mom took me there I knew where I was destined to be, in the place with the most lights, the most people, where no one ever sleeps. Of course at that time I had no idea where that was, but that's where I was going to be... defiantly." "HA, no kidding," Grey boomed, "look where you made it, PONYOPILIS, the biggest city in all of Equestia" Vinyl had to give a little chuckle. "Thank's, but we'll be here all day if this is how this interview will go on from here on out." Grey calmed down, "Alright then, please continue." "Ok then" vinyl continued. "after we finished shopping for stuff like food and that crap, me and my mom took a break at a public table with chairs, after a couple of minutes she said" "Hey Sky, thank you for helping me with the groceries, I want you to take these 5 bits and go buy what ever you want!" "Wait-wait-wait," Grey demanded, "whats with this sky name here?" "Oh right," Vinyl remembered, "at this time, I had not got my cutie mark yet, so there was no real name for me yet, my parents wanted me to big things, so they called me the biggest thing they new of, the sky" "heh, little did they know..." Grey snickered. "I know right." She paused for a moment. "so... I'll go on" "You can imagine how exited I was, giving a child 5 bits was like giving a grown adult 5 million. I was on my way to the candy store when I came across a large group of ponies, all stomping there hooves madly. obviously being a kid I had no idea what was going on. So being small I managed to wiggle my way to the front of the crowd to see what was going on. What I saw there is what started everything. There were simply one man with two clearly beaten up scratch pads. It was even obvious to a kid like me that they where in pretty bad shape. when I got to the front he was just about ready to start. Each second I waited seamed like an entire life time, then he finally started. It was magical. The music took me, I couldn't keep still if five of Equestria's worlds strongest ponies tried to hold me down. There wasn't a single point where I could expect what was coming. I've heard music before, but this was... was so... so... unbelievably perfect. After he had finished, I went up a gave my 5 bits into his hat he had placed for tips. "I was going to go buy some candy with this, but I think you need it a lot more than I do." "Why thank you little girl," the man with the dark purple hair and even darker mane said, "whats your name?" "they call me sky." I replied. "Sky." He said it slowly to himself. "I like that name, mine's True Note, but True is fine by me!" "True, that music you played was amazing, what do you call it?" I asked "Its called Beat Mixing." True Proudly replied as he was setting up for another go. "Do you think I could stay and watch you please?" I ignorantly asked "of course you can Sky." He responded. "And hey, maybe you could give everybody a dance show while I do my thing." "I would love to!" I screamed at him. "alright then." True yelled back. "get in place then, I'm about to start" "From then on time just seamed to mix together, I could have been there for five minutes or five hours. it didn't really matter to me though, I was having the time of my life. It all had to come to an end though, I heard my mom calling for me and realized how worried she must be, so I thanked my new friend True and asked him if I could come back one day. his reply was "Sky, come back anytime you want! My hat has never been so full of coins, its almost ridiculous, and i'm sure that's your doing!" "Really? You think so?" "I know so." Was his reply "From that day fourth I would walk to back from my house to the market, everyday, just to dance for this man who was now my new best friend. One day after True was setting down after a day he offered me the opportunity of my life. He said. "Sky, I want to ask you something, would you like to take some lessons from me to beat mix?" > Pains > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "L...Lessons? Th, that would be great, I would Love to! Oh yes please!" Sky answered "That's great Sky. I hoped you would say yes." True responded "With all the bits we've been getting lately, i'm finally able to get a real mixing table, not just two scratch pads. This new table will have a whole tun of dials and switched, it should be here by the end of the week. It'll take a while, but I'm sure you can do it." "Wow True." Sky stuttered. "I don't know what to say, thank you." "Its not a problem Sky." He assured "It will be fun! Now hurry on home, I'm sure your mom's worrying about you again" "Alright True... see ya." Sky mumbled as she walked off True watched her go down the road then shrugged to himself "That kid... Can never tell what she's really thinking." "The full impact of what True had said to me right there hadn't completely sunk in yet. About half way to home I just stopped in my tracks with pure bewilderment on my face... i can't remember any other when I was so happy...." Vinyl looked down at her hooves with a faint smile on her face. She looked as if she could be in a completely isolated place just to herself. Utter bliss. Grey broke the silence. "uhh Vinyl, are you ok?" Vinyl jumped slightly. "Oh uh, ya fine, I was just thinking of a later part of the story... Uh lets get back to the story" "After I finished yelling my brains out, I went home. but until the day the new table would come in, True would always play this one this one track, spin it the same way, scratch it the same way, wouldn't change a single thing about it. Whenever I asked him what the tune meant to him, he would always look away and say." "Its something my old teacher taught me." "Would say no more after that. It got me so confused every time, I would almost get mad. In hindsight really, that was probably one of the best anger control practice I've ever gotten. So finally this turn table comes in, and I'm all like, how bad could it be, the old only had an on and off switch, how many could this have? Right? Well. Oh. My. God, was I wrong. I don't think I could count that high yet. Ha Its kinda sad actually. We went to True's house for his teaching, Because, well obviously he's not gona teach me out on the streets right?" "Alright, so I guess the best way to start is by showing you how to actually scratch a vinyl." True pronounced as he started his teachings. "Contrary to what its called, Your not actually scratching it, in fact its just the opposite, you really want to push as lightly as you can, just enough so that you can move it without putting any real pressure on it. Now give it a try... Perfect, on your first try to, god job Sky! Now you need to add all of the switched and levers in to. Hmm. I guess the best way for me to teach you is to tell you what each one is called and what is does, then let you play around with it... " "That was how the weeks... then months went on, but soon I got good enough to start playing in front of other ponies, on the streets. I even picked up a couple tricks that True himself couldn't even do." "AND THAT"S HOW THE LEGEND STARTED!" Grey interrupted again. "Its perfect, a simple country girl doing crazy stuff like this!" "Heh. I guess I could have called it crazy back then to." Vinyl reminisced. "I loved every minuet of it though." "Anyways, continue." Grey urged sitting at the edge of his seat. "Alright." Vinyl continued. "A few years past, I was about 14, I had some pre-wrighten patterns and techniques I wanted to try out, and I had totally forgot them. I wasn't to far away from the town so I had time to run back and get them. When I got back to True's house, I heard a familiar beat. it was the mix True used to play all the time. It was completely different though, this time he was doing it on the table, not just the two scratch pads. I decided to listen to it. As I got to the open door I could see all the passion he was putting into it. There wasn't a moment where he let up his pace, i was amazed, he was doing things that I never thought possible at the time. To put it simply, It was beautiful. a After he finished, he slouched in a chair... and cried. He cried, the best person I knew ever, the person I looked up to, Idolized even, he was CRYING! I had no idea what to do, I was confused, scared, angry, I don't know what the hell I was, but all I knew right then was he needed me." "Tr-True, whats wrong?" True almost hit the roof with his jump. "Sky, what are you doing here, shouldn't you be long gone by now?" "I came back because I forgot my sheet." Sky pointed her head head over to a real table in the corner of the room, without taking her eyes off of True. "That was amazing True, where did you learn to do all that?" "Oh what that stuff, that's nothing, I'm sure you'll have that down in no time. Now here, take your sheet and leave, I'll see you tomorrow." He urged. "Whats wrong True?" Sky asked. "nothing's wrong Sky." He lied. "I promise, you just need to leave now." "I'M NOT LEAVING TRUE!" Sky yelled demandingly. He jumped back and stared crying some more. Sky walked up to him and put her hooves on his shoulders. "True, I will never leave you, you're my best friend,. We've known each other for years now. You can trust me." Sky declared with a light but serious voice, looking right into Trues's eyes. True looked at her, paused unsure what to do for a second. "I...I,I..." True dove into Sky's arms giving her the biggest hug either of them have had. His crying was uncontrollable now, but now it wasn't just a sad cry, there was a little hint of pride in his continuous sobs. "Its ok true... I'm here, I wont leave, you'll never be alone again." > Memories Past > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Me and True were locked like that for a while, neither of us were willing to let go. I have never seen True like that before that day, I never thought it was possible for him to be like that until that day. If I didn't have my mind set on the fact that he needed me right there, I probably would have started to cry myself. "That was the last song my instructor taught me... before she, she..." True said after he calmed down "Its alright true." Sky assured. "What was her name?" "Music, just music... so simple but yet impossible to understand." True whimpered. "She was always so secretive, almost as if her life was a master piece of art, an incomplete master piece, truly amazing, but not yet ready for public observation. I admired her so much, she was my idol." He paused for a long time. "One day, when I went over to her house, she seemed really depressed, she tried to hide it, but I knew her to well. When I confronted her about it, she told me she might not be around for much longer, I told her I would go anywhere with her, if she left I would leave. She stared me in the eye's so coldly it almost burned." "If you dare follow me to this place, I swear by the power of my wings, I will make sure you never see me again EVER!" Music screamed. "M-Music I, I'm sorry" young True pouted. "No True, i'm sorry." Music softened. "I should not have yelled at you, i'm just really scared right now. I don't know what to do." "I'll always be here Music, if you need anything ever, you just need to talk to me, alright?" young True prompted. "yes true, i'll remember that." Music answered. "Good bye then Music was the last thing I ever said to her... When I came back the next day, she, she. True almost started to cry again. "Its okay True, you don't have to tell me." "right then True broke the hug, he put his hooves on my shoulders and looked me directly in the eye" "Yes I do, its time you know about my past, when I came back, she was hanging by her neck in the music room. Her lifeless eyes stared off at nothing, I was in shock, I couldn't move, I couldn't speak, all I could do was stand there. I heard some noise in the other room, i went to check it out, I was a man sitting at Music's table, Eating a sandwich. I have never seen this man before. I grabbed a bat with my mouth, I went up to him, I said "DID YOU DO THIS TO MUSIC?!" "So what if I did, its none of your business kid." He stood up and walked over to me. "I would recommend leaving now." He brushed my hair with his hoof. "Els you might end up... just... like... her." "I smacked him... Right across the face... with the bat. He fell down, when he went to get up, I... I hit him again, and again, then again, over and over and over and over and over and over and over!" "He stared at his hooves with a smile of pure insanity on His face." "I killed him Sky... I killed the killer of my teacher." He grinned. "I went to jail, 10 long years, I'm 31 now, I was isolated from everybody for a whole year afterwards, then I met you. You brought me out of a rut in my life, Sky... Your the reason I'm alive today, thank you." "we stared at each other for a long time, I was in shock, so confused, but at the same time, True was the only thing clear to me. I couldn't help but feel close to him, he just gave me his imaginative heart. Right then, I had the biggest choice of my life to make, to accept it... Or crush it." Sky stuttered. "True... I can't" "He looked at me with fear... I paused. "can't see you like that!" I had the biggest smile on my face. "What makes you think that that was important? Its all in the past, your a new person now. Honestly, that was none of my business to begin with, the fact that told me this just means were better friends then we thought. If you think that the past matters, you are DEAD wrong, they call it the past for a reason yano." "He just stared at me for a while. After a little bit he closed his eyes, then fell back into my arms" "Thank you Sky... I'm so happy that..." "He fell asleep while on my lap. I was so proud then, no one had ever opened themselves to me like that before, I never felt so connected to someone, I still haven't. It was... magical. I fell asleep soon after him." > Separation > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Wow." Grey said amazed. "Who knew that you could be so close to someone so... dangerous." "True is not dangerous!" Vinyl said with deaths voice. "Oh come on Vinyl, of course he is, he killed a man, right?" Grey ignorantly prompted. "TRUE IS NOT DANGEROUS!" Vinyl stood up and got in Grey's face. "Alright, i'm sorry Vinyl... He might not be dangerous, but i'm pretty sure you are." Grey snickered. "Now that is something we both agree on." Vinyl laughed going back to her seat. "now lets get back to the story." "When I woke up, True was in the kitchen frying up some hash browns and cutting up fruit." "Good morning Sky!" True said cheerfully after seeing me. "good morning." I said as I sat at the kitchen table. "How are you this morning Sky?" He continued his cheerfulness "I'm doing fine." Sky Replied. "How about you?" "Oh I'm fine, I feel really good actually." He answered. "That's good." Sky said "There was a long pause, but it wasn't awkward, it was... Peaceful, a good silence. After a little bit though, It got a little bit annoying." "So... Do you have anything to remember her by?" Sky inquired. "yes I do... You already know it to well, she gave me my name." True answered. "Your name?" Sky was really interested now. "Yes, see my cutie mark? The vinyl with sparks flying out of it. The way Music took it was that the sparks showed power, but power is something a man can never have to much of, so a power among myself, honesty. Hence True, the Vinyl represented music. Hence Note." True described. "Wow, she seemed like a very smart woman." Sky declared. "Very." True assured her. "You slightly remind me of her actually." "Me really?" Sky said surprised. "Yes, your personalities are some what similar." He reflected. "You're both very kind. Breakfast is ready." "as we were eating there was an odd bliss, as if the connection we had was more than just teacher and student, more like we were part of the same family. It was hard to feel bored or unhappy, we were just to close to feel any other way than happy." "These hash browns are amazing True, they have so much flavor." Sky said amazed "Thanks, my mom made these for me and my siblings whenever something special would happen, like Christmas, or completing something. I figured that this morning was a special enough morning for these." True replied "I guess your right." Sky answered "As the day went on, I never realized how quickly the time went, at one point I just blurted out." "OH MY GOD, MY PARENT, THEY MUST BE SO WORRIED!" "Oh jeez that's right, i'll go with you to hopefully calm down your parents." "When we got to my house, I had expected my parents to be frantic searching for me, but they were just at home sitting on the couch playing crib. (they always play crib)." "Mom, Dad I'm so sorry, I spent the night at true's house yesterday, I hope I didn't make you worry to much." "I'm sorry ma'am, sir, my teachings went late last night and when we realized what time it was, it was already dark, and I refused to let your daughter walk home during the dark." "Yes thank you True." my mom said. "I figured that's where she was." Her voice was a little ominous as if she was hiding something from us. "Now True, I know you took all this time out of your schedule to come here, but my husband and I need to talk to our daughter, so if you would be so kind as to leave." "Of course ma'am, have a nice day!" True gleefully said then walked out the door. "as soon as True left the atmosphere of the room doped, almost like a bass." "Sky we need to talk to you, I'm going to make this blunt, I refuse to let you see True anymore!" "When she said that my heart skipped a beat... almost like a bass." "Wh-What do you mean? Whats wrong with True? I-If its about last night..." "your father heard your... conversation last night. After you were late we thought that man had done something to you, so he went to see if you were alright." "So your not letting me see him because of something he did thirteen years ago?!' "Sky he killed a man" "He was in a rage! He had just seen his teacher hung! I would do the exact same thing if some one did that to True!" "You need to understand Sky, i'm doing this for your own good." "My own good?! True is the best thing that ever happened to me. Taking him away from me is not good, it is very bad in fact. I can't even look at you right now, I'm leaving, I'll be back later tonight." "What so you can go play your dumb "music" with that delinquent of yours?" Sky's father finally spoke. "You look here dad, True is not a "delinquent" is is a good man with a good heart who made a mistake, and our music is not "dumb", it takes a lot of work, and is very enjoyable to listen to." I was infuriated. "I don't care who he is or what you call good music, you are not seeing that man again, its as simple as that." father yelled. "what are you talking about?" I said smugly. "I'm going to to see him right now!" "He used his magic to put a wall in front of door before I had a chance to reach the nob." "I don't think so honey." he replied "Now your room misses you, you were away for an entire night! You need to think about its feelings to." "he piked me up with his magic, and brought me to my room. My magic was not yet developed, so there was nothing i could do but yell hopelessly. when he dropped me in my room, the door slammed. When I ran to open it, the was a wall of pure yellow magic. "no...True." I still couldn't believe what my parents were doing to me. I tried for what felt like hours to break that wall, non successively. All I could do was cry myself to sleep. > Decision > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sky woke up on her bed with a puddle of tears on her pillow. Her stomach felt like it was compressed, her mane was a mess, her eyes were dry as if they cried out any moisture they had stored. It must have been mid day by now, for the sun was past her window, which was facing east. She rolled out of bed and landed on her hooves, doing this made her stomach hurt even more, she winced and stumbled but didn't fall down. She went to open her door to see if the barrier was still there, almost surprisingly to her it wasn't. She started to walk down the hallway to the stairs, the she heard her parents talking, she didn't want to face them yet, she turned around and walked back down the hallway, past her room and into the washroom. She turned on the shower tap, and put her hoof in the stream of water and waited for it to warm up. When it was to her satisfaction, she stepped in, when she got it she laid down so fast it almost looked like she collapsed on the floor. "Damn it!" She raged "God Damn it!" She stayed laying there for a long time, so long that the water lost all its heat, she put it up to the hottest the twisty would go, but still all that would come out was lukewarm water. She figured that it meant it was time to face her parents, she tuned the tap off and stepped out. She looked at herself in mirror and saw that she looked worse than she felt, her mane was not in her trademark sideways position, but hung down from the water. Her eyes were saggy, there were multiple kines underneath them, and it looked like she had been punched on both of her eyes they were so black. With some struggle she managed to pick up a towel with her magic and dry herself with it, she always liked her mane coat and tail to dry naturally after a towel, so she never used the blow dryer her mom used daily. After she finished toweling, she put it back on the rack and left the washroom. Walking down the hallway was harder for her this time, almost as if she wasn't thinking about what she was doing last time. she paused at the top of the stairs, took a deep breath and slowly took her steps to her parents. When she got down she saw her dad was watching TV while her mom was in the kitchen making something. her mom noticed Sky first. "Good afternoon Sky!" She said gleefully. "How are you doing?" Sky didn't answer, she sat in a chair in the corner of the room "It's not nice to ignore your mother sky" Her father animatedly said Sky just sat there "Do you want me to put you back in your room?" He sounded mad Sky gritted her teeth "I'm fine." she managed to get out "Good." He went back to his program "Brunch will be ready soon." Sky's mother proclaimed "See, isn't she nice, I wanted to eat sooner, but your mother insisted that we wait for you." Sky's father almost demanded on sky "Yeah." Sky smirked. "...Nice" He looked at his daughter for a moment and turned away, as if choosing to ignore what he had heard, probably the best thing for Sky. Soon food was ready and the three of them were sitting at the table, tension going between them was astronomical, Sky's parents would keep asking her questions, and the most she would reply with was one or two words if any at all. After what seamed like a full length interrogation from her parents, they all had finally finished eating. Sky's father went back to his TV, and Sky's mother went to do dishes. Sky sat there for a while pondering what to do I need to get out of here, She thought, but how?... I guess I should start with the direct rout. She stood up and walked over to the door. "I'm gona take a walk" She lied, "If you're thinking of seeing that murderer forget about it!" Sky's dad boomed. "I'm just going for a walk." sky continued to lie. "Alright then," He said cheerfully. "But if i find out that you've gone to see him, you'll be in trouble." "Yeah." She said simply as she left the house She started walking along the path to the town, she kept walking just long enough for her house to be out of view, and as soon as that happened, she ran, she ran as fast as she could. About half way there, she was passing by her closest neighbours. She saw that one of them was sitting on the porch and got up when he saw Sky running by. "Oh no." She put her head down and started to run faster. She could her hoof steps slowly catching up, She put everything she had in her legs, "come on come on come on come on." She repeated to herself. Before that day she had never ran faster, it was not fast enough though, the pony chasing her was way to fast for her young body to keep up with. He ran ahead of her and placed himself in front of her to stop her. "Nooo, I need to see True! Let me go!" She tried to jump around the muscular pony, but failed miserly. "I'm going to make a deal with you little lady." He said. "If you turn around and go back home now I wont tell your father what happened here, but if you continue this and make me force you home, I'm going to have to tell him everything." "Let me go!" Sky demanded "I need to see True!" "Last chance." He announced. "NO!" She put simply. "Alright then." He said. He stood on his two back hooves reached under Sky with his front two and took off. Sky was fighting the entire flight back, but he was to strong, his grip never loosened once. When they started loosing altitude, she knew that they were close, she dreaded the thought of going back to her father. They flew through an open double window, and was put in the living room, where her parents were playing crib. "I got her for you." He said. "Thank you." Sky's father said. "Not a problem." He said as he flew away Sky ran to the door again like as she did last night, but was stopped by another magic wall of yellow. "Now sky." Her father said. "Are you going to make me force you to your room again, or will you go willingly?" She hit the wall of light with her hoof then ran up the stairs, she slammed her door as loud as she could, she wanted to cry more, but couldn't. she started thinking to herself. Is this my fate? I'm never going to see True again!... No it cant be! An evil smile came to her face. "I just need to think of an escape plan!" she said to herself.
