> Special Day For Mom > by Cobolt Soundwave > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Love You Mom > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Nighty, we have to get mom something for Mother's Day." "I know sis, I know. But what do we get her anyway?" "Ohhh! Maybe we can...no not that...Ohhh! Maybe...no, not that either...ARGH! WHY IS THIS SO HARD!?" Star slumped down onto the floor and put her forehooves over her face, covering her eyes; her ears folded back out of frustration from trying to figure out what to get her mother, Twilight Sparkle, for Mother's Day. "I don't know sis, maybe we can make her something?" Star looked up at her brother, thinking about what he just said. "That might work, but what do we make her?" "Well, I thought we could make her a card. But, you know, with drawings or something. I mean she has said before that she doesn't really care, right? So long as it's from us she'll love it no matter what." Star stared at Nightlight with an expression on her face that unmistakenably read "Are you kidding me?" "Nighty, we can't just 'give her whatever' just because she said so. I really want to make it nice for her, especially since she's had to bail us out of so much trouble this year." Nightlight looked down at the floor of the library. "Yeah, I still don't know how that toaster caught fire, or how we somehow got T's and Claire's tails in a knot." Star shook her head with a small grin on her face. "Yeah, or how about that time we got Priz and Gold to kiss without either of them knowing." Nightlight and Starburst just looked at each other for a few seconds before busting out in a guffaw of laughter, both clutching their sides and rolling on the floor. After calming down a bit from their explosion of laughter, Nightlight spoke again. "Oh mare. We were a handful this year, huh Star?" Still holding on to that small grin she had before, Star looked up. "Yeah, yeah we were...but that's why I want to get her something nice. She's had to put up with us all year and, well, I'm sure we drove her crazy." "Yeah, so umm, what do you think we should do, if not a card?" Star had to think for a minute; then all of a sudden something came to her. "I know what we can get her!" Nightlight perked up at her sister's excitement. "What is it!? What, what, what!?" Star stood up and all fours and looked him dead in the eyes. "Let's get her a necklace!" "That's a great idea!" Nightlight was suddenly hit with a thought. "Wait, do we have enough bits for that?" Star's ears drooped again. "Ummmmm...maybe?" Both siblings' ears drooped at the reminder of their lack of money. When their mother had started giving them an allowance, she decided that she didn't want to spoil them with crazy amounts of bits like Princess Celestia had once tried. Instead, they each got 50 bits a week to spend on whatever they saw fit. Of course, they did keep some hidden away each week if any was left over. "Wait, that's it Nighty!" Star shouted out. "What?" NightLight was intrigued by her sisters sudden outburst. "Our money! We always set some aside when we have some left from the week! Let's go see how much we both have!" "Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that! Let's go see!" The two raced to their rooms in a blur of speed, each reaching under their beds for the boxes that kept their personal stash of savings. "Uhhhhhhmmmm, I got a hundred and fifty bits, how 'bout you sis?" "Uhhhhh, a hundred and seventy five." "Do you think that's enough for a necklace?" "I'm really not sure, but it wouldn't hurt to go see, right?" "Yeah, okay! Let's put our money into our saddlebags and go to the market to find a-" "Wait!" Night picked a hoof of the floor in surprise. "What?" "Why don't we go to T's and Claire's house, maybe Rarity has something there. I mean Spike brings in gems all the time and makes stuff like that with Claire." "Hey you're right, maybe we could get a discount too, and still have some money left over for ourselves." "Yeah! Alright I'm ready. Let's go, little bro." "Alright, right behind you." The trotted quickly out of the front door and to Rarity's. "Thank you soooo much, Uncle Spike." "Yeah, thanks Uncle Spike." Spike turned his head and grinned at the two seated behind him. "Hey, no problem. Besides, it's for Twilight so no charge, 'kay?" Starburst and Nightlight both nodded their heads and Spike went back to work, bending the silver around the amethyst that was in the shape of Twilight's cutiemark. "You have no idea how much this means to us." "Yeah, we really wanted to do something nice for mom this year," Nightlight said just as excited. Spike chuckled and molded the last piece of silver on the necklace. "Alright, there you guys go. I know she'll love it." Star took the necklace from Spike and put it in her saddlebags. "Thanks again uncle." "Hey, anytime kiddo. Now run along, you wanna give her that as a surprise right?" Star was halfway to the door when she turned her head around. "Yeah, we do. Bye Uncle Spike! Say hi to T and Claire for us." "And Rarity," added Nightlight. "Okay, I promise I will. Bye you two." "Bye!" yelled back the siblings as they walked out the door and back on their way home. "Mare, were we blessed with great kids or what?" Spike said to himself. "Yes we were, darling," said a voice from the foot of the stairs. "Hey Rarity, how was your bath?" "Just fine, thank you dear." Rarity leaned in and nuzzled her husband, which Spike happily returned. A necklace with a beautiful shining diamond in the shape of her cutiemark hung from around her neck. "Why don't we go and snuggle up on the couch, hmm." "Lead the way my dear mare." "Still ever the gentledrake." Star and Night had just gotten home in time to put away their bits under their beds again. Star managed to hide the necklace under her wing before they heard the front door opening and closing, followed by Twilight calling out for them. "Night!? Star!? You kids home!?" Nightlight and Starburst came running out of their room to great the mother. "Mom!" "Ma!" They almost barrelled over their mother with both of them giving her a tackling hug. Letting out a small 'oomph,' Twilight greeted her children with a nuzzle on their heads. "Hello Star, Nighty, how was your today?" "Fine. Hey where's dad?" "Oh, your father had to stay back for a bit longer, but he'll be back before dinner, don't worry." "Okay." Star looked over to Night and nodded at him, to which he responded with his own. "Hey mom?" Twilight looked back to her daughter and froze, her eyes going wide. "Happy Mother's Day mom!" they both yelled. Twilight had a hoof up to her mouth, her eyes watering a bit. "It's...It's beautiful you two, but where, where did you two get it?" "Oh well me and Night had some money left over, so we thought, why not get you something really nice this year." "Yeah! So, do you like it?" Twilight took a hold of the necklace in her magic, bringing it close to her face to look at how it glistened in the light. "No, I don't like it, I love it, thank you you two." "You're welcome mom." Twilight unlatched the clasp in the back, slid the necklace around her neck and re-clasped it; the gem sat just a little bit below the base of her neck. Twilight leaned down and nuzzled her children again, wrapping them in a wing hug. "Happy Mother's Day mom." "Yeah, Happy Mother's Day mom." "Thank you my children, thank you."
