Rockington's Epic Adventure, Featuring Maud Pie

Jon's rocky friend, Rockington, winds up in Equestria meeting Maud Pie while preventing anypony from touching the dreaded videogame.

Set after the events of Banjo Kazooie: Nuts n' Bolts review, Jon's solution is to throw his rocky friend, Rockington, into the depts of the ocean with the game. What Rockington didn't know is about to get interesting as it enters the hole that took the rock to another world with flat colors and ponies... with one particular pony the rock took interest in. The problem? The game is in Equestria and if anypony plays the game, chaos ensures!

This is the first story I've written and I thought this would be an interesting ride to take. Have fun and as always, critiques are welcome!

A Rocky Start

On the last episode, or a few minutes ago to be exact, Rockington the happy-go-lucky rock got strapped to an evil video game, the dreadful Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. His human friend, Jon, realized the terror of the video game it possesses, with its ridicule concept and corrupted magic, such powers it had to make it a bad video game must not be in the hands of any gamer. So he counted on his longtime friend, Rockington to take the video game with it and seal its fate to the ocean forever.

On the way down to the beach cliff, Jon looked down to his friend he is carrying. "Rockington, you're our last hope this world depended on!" Jon vigorously shook his hand as he rapidly paces to the cliff, slowly growing tired carrying his best pal close to his stomach. Rockington didn't say a word, but it accepted the fact that it needed to be done, it must be done for the sake of the world, even for its bestest friend the rock could ever have.

As Jon nears the cliff of the ocean, he recalled the times he and his rock friend spent together with moments of happiness. "Oh pal, I'll never forget the times we had spent together," he wept as memories ran through Jon's small and fragile head made him grow more sad by the second. Jon's facial expression changed when the sudden heat from the cursed game box grew hot and heavy with laugher.

Rockington didn't feel the pain of the curse it had to bear with except to feel sad to see itself go. It was a short life for the rock, having only known its friend twice before it became a sacrificial tool to its dear friend. As Jon prepares to spin, Rockington could feel the breeze flowing over the rough and rigid surface, watching its surrounding spin around before its crudely drawn eyes. Rockington's face is positioned to look straight at Jon to catch his best friend's face for the last time.

Jon picks up the pace as he whirls himself faster and faster with the weight of his rocky friend slowly rising up. Just as he is about to launch Rockington off his hands, Jon said his last words to his great friend, "I'll never forget you Rockington, whatever happens to you in the end I wish you a happy and wonderful life ahead of you... pal."

Jon eventually reached the fastest speed he could achieve with all the stamina he had left, he spins around fast with his eyes squirm, Jon forced his clutched hands off Rockington to let go and the rock soars through the air and falls into the ocean with a big splash.

Deep into the sea, Rockington drifts down fast with the game still attached to it. Rockington faced itself to the surface of the water as the ocean surrounding starts to grow dark quickly, it didn't have an idea what to do with itself and the game attached to. Perhaps it will have to make a pact for itself, Rockington will guard the worst, most vile video game with all its life in the deep sea from others getting the game. Rockington can tell the future will be bleak and dark for all eternity, but if it had to, then the rock must accept its destiny no matter what.

A rusty pipe appeared from shadows below Rockington, it was as wide as most sewer pipes, which is wide enough for Rockington to fall into. Yes, Rockington sank into the pipe without knowing where it leads to. The brave rock braced itself for the ride of its life along with a few rough bumps here and there.

When Rockington noticed a light before it's crude eyes could see, a strong force of water pushed the rock faster than it anticipated. When Rockington reached towards the bright light, Rockington somehow is shot out of a geyser with incredible force, it sent itself flying across the sky with no idea where it will land on. Rockington, as always, didn't change its expression.

As the courageous rock soars over the sky with the cursed game it tugged to, Rockington starts to descend rapidly towards what it appears to be a small farm with lots of stones, rocks and boulders lying around the area. Rockington braced itself for landing as it hit the dirt with a huge thud followed by a small quake, thus, pieces of dirt flies across with a big dust cloud covering quite a big portion of the rocky field. Rockington survived a harsh impact with the cursed game still attached to it.

Once the dust settled, the area revealed to be what it had seen from earlier, the area consists of a small house with a windmill stood in place with its fan spinning slowly, there is also a storage tower that stores something inside. There's a fence which surrounds the small area with a gate that is left open. The rest is littered with rocks with stone chippings laid all over. Rockington had no clue where it had landed, but it didn't put much thought about the location. That all changed when there's noises coming from the small house.

Out came through the door, five creatures wearing clothes reminiscent of the late 1800s trotted outside, which is an odd sight to the rock. These creatures turned out to be horses, or more specifically, ponies with painted fur that is capable of speech with the intelligence of a human. Rockington had seen one with similar abilities back home, but never quite like this. The ponies appeared excited but shocked at the same time.

One of the younger ponies in dark lavender fur with a gray-colored mane said to her parents, "I felt something landed outside of the fence." the ponies then split up to find what disturbed the area. Of the five, one pony with a semi-dark gray fur with a saturated purple mane and a dark-blue clothing found something suspicious. She looked down at the rock with the video game case with interest, but questioned if the rock she sees is the one that made the noise earlier.

"Interesting," said the mare with no emotion or tone, "You must be a different rock."

Rockington, as usual, sits there with its crudely drawn eyes fixated to the left and is just smiling away like always in any situation.

The mare continued to observe the unidentified rock object, "You look very different, you had a face," she then picked up a rock with her one hoof to observe the rock in question. "You have a rough, dull surface," she commented. The mare noticed the game attached to the rock and took the moment to observe the object's cover.

"Bear, bird, some... thing. Green, cold and wet," said the mare as she cocked her eyebrow in question. Just then, the rest of the ponies showed up to see what she had found.

"Have you found something Maud?" Said one parent with glasses who noticed Maud found a rock she's holding.

"I found this," said Maud as she turned around to show off her find to her family. "This rock with something fell from the sky, I assumed."

"What the heck is that supposed to be do you think sis?" Asked one of Maud's sisters in gray tones.

"I do not have an answer," Maud responded as she observed the rock's face. "I cannot say what this material is unless I research it."

"What an amazing find Maud Pie, this rock looks like it stands out more than the rest of the rocks we have here!"

"Indeed it is Limestone." the father of the family responded, "I never seen anything quite like it, with such detail like that must be worth something."

"Igneous dear, there is no rock worth a bit." Igneous's wife faced at him with a cocked eyebrow raised up from his statement, "A rock is a rock, there's nothing special about this one other than-" she took a pause to see the look of Rockington's crudely drawn face which unsettles her "- that."

"I understand Cloudy," He nodded, " but we'll leave that to Maud to do research, then we'll see what it is."

Maud Pie looked at the rock and thought about it, "I'll look into this after I setup my research spot." She pulled out a leather saddle bags she used to store her rock collections and put Rockington inside one of them for convenience. She and the rest of her family headed back to their home.

Rockington shuffles around with each tot, but not too much to upset itself, including the game that's still attached to. The rock couldn't do anything but let its life take itself to wherever it would put Rockington to next. The sound of a door opened, followed by the steps Maud takes when she climbs up the staircase. Finally arriving in a room where Maud Pie sleeps in, she took the saddle off her back and pulled Rockington out of the bag and sets it on the study desk close to the window.

Maud Pie then goes to the closet to pull out the items needed to perform research on Rockington, she finds a magnifying glass, a cloth, a cutting knife and her journal that Maud stores research information about rocks. She picks up Rockington briefly to set the cloth below it so it would have something comfortable to lay on.

With the tools set beside the specimen of the day, Maud Pie sat down to take a closer look. One object that seemed to stand out more was the video game case that made it more distracting to work with. She picked up the tool to carefully cut the tapes that wrapped Rockington to the dreaded thing. She then shoved the game case aside to put full attention to the rock.

Rockington is just smiling away without the feeling of fear as Maud Pie pulls a magnifying glass over the rock. She carefully observed the detail of a rock in question and jots down the information on her journal while saying aloud, "It had very fine texture of a most common volcanic rock, felsite. It is light-gray. It had a face with green crayon markings." She paused briefly to look back at the rock, tilting her head a bit.

She put the journal down and pulled one of the desk drawers to take out a rock chisel using her spare hoof. Maud Pie looked down at the rock, stood there and looked into Rockington's face. She grew more curious the more she looked at Rockington, as if there is something special about the specimen. She placed down the chisel beside the rock to see its face with her usual expression.

“You're not an ordinary rock,” Maud commented to Rockington, “where did you come from?”

Even with its speech impediment, Rockington is rather surprised that Maud Pie actually attempted to start a conversation with a rock. Could there be something that the peculiar pony posses that his friends back from Earth did not?

As the lone rock is being watched by a mare, she once again broke another silence in question, “You don't seem to belong here, are you from another word?” Maud inched her head closer to the rock to sniff at it. “Hmm, you smell... weird.” Maud doesn't seem fazed one bit, instead, she seemed more interested to know more of it.

Maud Pie then lifted Rockington up to her level to have a little converse with it. “You're a special rock, not an ordinary rock, a special rock.”

Her flattering words touched Rockington's heart. Although it is lacking one, it suddenly felt something warm within itself like never before. It was a special feeling that made the rock feel both fuzzy and happy. As the mare's face moved in closer, the chunky rock is able to see her glittering eyes sparkle like sapphires reflecting light at dawn. Its feeling starts to grow more and more when suddenly, somepony called out through the door.

“Maud, Pinkie Pie showed up for a visit!” called Maud's mother from the other side of the door announcing her arrival. Maud stopped with a quick blink as if she was distracted from her research. Maud Pie sets Rockington back on the soft cloth and puts her hoof in her pocket, which she pulled out another rock to set it beside with Rockington.

”Here's Boulder, he'll keep you from being alone,” said the mare as she makes her way to the bedroom door, she turned her head to face Rockington, “I'll be back.” She exits the room and closes the door, leaving Rockington with Boulder sitting together on the work desk.

Rockington never had another rock-like friend before, a much smaller rock completely different to itself. It was near oval-shaped and gray all over, suggesting it was a sedimentary rock. Boulder is incapable of any thought process unlike Rockington itself. Even if Boulder doesn't seem to do much, Rockington humbly doesn't seem to mind having a small company to pass the time.
