> A Twidash-y Day > by Sr Face Tear > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > A Twidash-y Day > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Twidash-y Day By: Timelord358 The sunlight flickered through the windows of the Golden Oaks Library, falling upon the faces of two mares, one a lavender unicorn the other a cerulean pegasus. The unicorn was the first to wake as her eyes sleepily fluttered open revealing her companion. She smiled as she gazed at her rainbow maned marefriend. She slowly brought her hoof up and lightly poked her mare on the nose, "Rainbow, it's time to wake up," she said in a soft voice. Rainbow responded to this by grumbling and pulling the unicorn closer to her. The unicorn let out a quiet sigh, "Oh well, looks like I'm just going to have to take my shower on my own." "Hmm, huh what?" Rainbow sleepily asked before her eyes shot open."No, Twi, I'm up," she said quickly. Twilight laughed at Rainbow's predictability."I always know just how to wake you, Rainbow Dash," Twilight said, shaking her head, as she got out of the bed. "So, you coming or what?" "Yeah, I'm coming, just wait up a sec, I just woke up," Rainbow replied, stifling a yawn. "So did I, I guess I'm just faster than you," Twilight said, a smirk growing on her face. With a single flap of her wings, Rainbow flew past her marefriend into the bathroom, "Who's the fast one Twi?" she asked turning and smiling at the lavender mare. "I guess I can't argue, especially after last night," Twilight giggled as her mares face reddened. Rainbow laughed awkwardly "Looks like I walked right into that," she asked, scratching the back of her head with a hoof. Twilight walked up to Dash, who was standing in the door way, and looked her in the eye. "Yes," Twilight then leaned in and gave her marefriend a quick peck on the lips, "you most certainly did," she finished with a smile on her lips. Twilight then walked past her into the bathroom. "Come on, spike's probably already cooking breakfast. It would be rude to keep him waiting." "Yeah yeah, I'm coming," Rainbow replied. "Oh... you will be," Twilight stated. "... Dang it." Twenty minutes later Twilight walked out of the bathroom. Followed by Rainbow Dash, she let out a relaxed sigh. After Twilight had brushed her mane and tail (Rainbow refusing to do the same), they made their way down the stairs to the library, where the smell of something cooking graced the senses. They followed the smell to the kitchen where they found Spike busy cooking pancakes that had all types of berries mixed in, blue berries, straw berries, raspberries, black berries, and several others as well. "Wow, Spike!" Twilight said, "Those look delicious." "Yeah," Rainbow said, licking her lips, "can't wait to dig in." "Well your's and Twilight's are almost ready, I'm making myself some ruby and sapphire pancakes," he explaned as he expertly flipped a pancake. "Don't eat to many of those rubies," Twilight shook her head, "I swear one of these days your scales are going to turn red." "Yeah yeah yeah, Do you want me to make you two a pot of coffee or tea?" "Coffee please." Ten minutes later they were all seated at the table eating their food. "So Twilight, what's on the to-do list today?" Spike asked. "Oh not much. We need to clean the library up before we head to the picnic, but that's pretty much it," Twilight replied. "and later Rainbow and I are going out to dinner." "Cool, because yesterday the crusaders asked me if I could play with them today and I told them maybe. Do you think I could go, then meet you two at the picnic later?" "I don't know Spike... " Twilight said, putting a hoof on her chin in thought. "Aww, come on Twi," Rainbow said, smiling, "let the little guy go." Twilight let out a sigh, "alright, you can go," she then looked at Rainbow with a smirk, "you'll just have to fill in for him, though" A grin grew on Spike's face as the smile on Rainbow's fell, "Horseapples, I didn't think that through." At that Spike let out a chuckle, "No, but thanks, Rainbow," He then looked at the clock, "Oh, if I'm going to meet them I should get going now!" Spike brought his plate to the sink then headed for the door, "See you two later." "I need to start thinking before I talk," Rainbow muttered before letting out a sigh, "See ya, Spike. " "We'll see you at the picnic! have fun!" Twilight yelled after him before the door closed. She then turned to her mare and said, "You won't." "Oh yeah, how would you know?" "Because that's the... " she levitated a scrap of parchment and a quill over from the counter and made a mark on it, "twenty seventh time you said that." "Are you really keeping a list of how many times I've said that?" she asked, then chuckled, "Of course you are, you're you!" "Would you want me any other way?" Twilight asked with a smile. "No," "Then, " she said in an alluring tone, before giving Rainbow a quick kiss on the cheek, "let's get to work," she said with a smile. The time passed fairly quickly as they cleaned the library, and before long it was time to leave for the Picnic. "So what are we bringing to the picnic, Twi?" Rainbow asked her mare. "All we need to bring are the plates and cups, Rarity is bringing the blanket, Applejack and Pinkie Pie are bringing the food, and Fluttershy's bringing the drinks," Twilight said. "I'll go grab the plates well you finish up here, kay," Rainbow called over her shoulder, trotting into the kitchen. After a few more moments the two mares were on there way out the door. Locking it behind them, they headed off towards the park. As they walked, side by side, they intertwined their tails, and a comfortable silence fell over them. After a few minutes of walking they passed two mares that were sitting on a bench. Lyra was sitting in her strange way, and Bon-bon was lying down beside her marefriend, laying her head on Lyra's lap. Lyra was levitating a copy of the town's paper in front of them. As Twilight and Rainbow Dash walked past this sight Twilight rested her head in the crook of Rainbow's neck. She remembered back to all the times that they had just sat together reading, a smile playing across her lips. Before long the two lovers had entered the park and began the search for their friends. "So where is the picnic supposed to be anyway?" Rainbow questioned, looking around. "It's around here somewhere," Twilight answered, copying her marefriend's actions. She then increased her pace pulling slightly ahead of Rainbow. Twilight turned her head to look back at her mare and smirked, before sprinting off ahead of Rainbow and yelling back, "Race ya!" Rainbow, caught of guard, paused for a moment before a large grin spread across her face, "Oh no you don't!" she shouted before dashing after her mare. Once Rainbow had inevitably caught up to Twilight she slowed her pace to match her lovers. Turning her head to smile at Twilight, she let out a light giggle at seeing the smile on Twilight's face as she looked back at Rainbow. For several minutes the two mares ran through the park giggling with one another. After a while Twilight lightly bumped her shoulder into Rainbow's, causing another fit of laughter. Rainbow retaliated by bumping into Twilight a bit harder, who returned with one final shove. Although this time they tumbled off the path rolling over each other, and ending up with Rainbow on top looking down at Twilight. they smiled at each other. Getting lost in each others eyes, Rainbow slowly brought her lips towards Twilight's. As they came closer and closer, their lips millimeters apart- "Ahem," Applejack Cleared her throat, standing off to the side, with the rest of their friends. Surprised,Twilight and Rainbow looked over to where their five friends had set up the picnic blanket and food, before hurriedly getting up from the ground, both of them with a light blush. "Oh, Applejack, why'd you have to ruin that moment?" Rarity asked the orange earth pony. Applejack turned to the unicorn, "We've been waiting for them for the last five minutes!" "We can't blame them for being in love! And besides, they're so cute together!" "Hey hey hey!" Rainbow shouted, waving a hoof, "I'm not cute." "Says you," Twilight whispered into Rainbow's ear before walking forward, snapping her tail across Rainbow's flank. She then levitated her saddle bags off and set them on the ground, while Rainbow blushed behind her. "So! Are we gonna get this picnic started or what!" Pinkie Pie exclaimed to the group, "I brought cake with tuns of frosting, and sprinkles and jelly- Oh speaking of jelly do any of you know Jammer he-" "Um, Pinkie, dear." Rarity tried to interject. "- Really likes jelly I find him all the time just bathing in it, I mean , isn't jelly supposed to be eaten?! Oh I also brought cupcakes although the don't have any jelly, just sprinkles and frosting!" Pinkie Pie finished with a large smile directed at her friends, while most of them just chuckled and shook there heads. "Hey! There's nothing funny about cupcakes! Well unless they're clown cupcakes, I guess those would be funny," The pink mare finished with a giggle. "No Pinkie," Rainbow suppressing the last of her laugh, "there's nothing funny with the cupcake's... you're just a lot of fun to be around." "Oh, Okay!" Pinkie said with a smile. "So," Twilight said, opening her saddle bags, "Let's get this picnic started!" The seven of them quickly went about setting up the plates and getting everyone served. After roughly five minutes they had everything set out and were seated on the blanket, talking about things in their day to day lives. "- and so now I have this big order from Sapphire Shores that needs to be finished by next Friday," Rarity finished her story, before turning to Twilight and Rainbow who were sitting beside each other, "So, anything new with you two?" "There's not much new with us," Twilight answered. " We are going on a date tonight though." "Oh, are you going to that fancy new restaurant, The Celestial Gardens?" "Yeah, that's the place," Rainbow told them. "Although I don't see why we we have to go to some stupid fancy restaurant, instead of just going to the Hay Burger, I don't see the big difference!" She grunted out, crossing her forelegs. "W-what's the difference? What's the difference?! The difference is that The Celestial Gardens is a four star dinning establishment for the high class, while the Hay Burger is just some low class grease bucket!" Rarity argued back at Rainbow Dash, Her voice rising with each word. "Calm down Rarity, R.D. probability just don't want to get all prettied up for her date," Applejack reasoned, "You always got to wear a dress when you go to one of those fancy eateries." Rarity turned to Rainbow, the hint of a scowl on her face," I don't see why you're always so against looking beautiful, Rainbow. That last dress I made for you makes you look absolutely stunning!" "I told you, dresses aren't exactly aerodynamic," Rainbow deadpanned. "It's always about speed with you. Don't you ever worry about how you look. I'm willing to bet that if you just spent some time every morning with simple maintenance, you could be one of the best looking mares in Ponyville!" Rarity said, shaking her head. "Um, Rarity, I think you're mistaken, Rainbow is the best looking mare in Ponyville!" Twilight stated, putting a foreleg around her mare. "Well of course you would say that,. You two have been dating more than two years now!" Her eye brow raised as she looked at the two lovers, "When are you two just going to seal the deal and get married?" Twilight let out an awkward chuckle as Rainbow stiffened slightly, both of them had a light blush gracing their cheeks, "W-well I've really just been waiting for somepony-" She motioned to Rainbow "- to ask." "You've been waiting for me to ask?" Rainbow put a hoof on her chest before pointing it at Twilight, "I've been waiting for you to ask." There was a moment of silence before everypony was on the ground laughing, "Why am I not surprise by that?" Spike asked to nopony in particular, stifling the last of his giggling. As the last of the laughter faded Rainbow looked at Twilight, "We should make this a bet,. Who ever proposes first wins like.. five bits," she finished with a smile and a shrug. Twilight looked at Rainbow for a moment before saying, "Only you, Rainbow, only you..." She let out a sigh, "What are the rules?" "Cool, umm, how about... it has to be during a date or special occasion, and we have to do that traditional jewelry thing. But no buying anything until tomorrow so that we can both start on the same day," She hastily finished. Twilight let out another sigh, "Deal," She held out a hoof to shake, but when Rainbow grabbed she pulled her in to a short but sweet kiss, both of them closing their eyes in bliss. After they pulled apart Twilight looked into Rainbow's eyes and said, "But don't think you're going to win easily." The rest of the picnic passed uneventfully, and before long Twilight, Rainbow Dash and Spike were back at the library. Twilight and Rainbow were curled up together on the ground reading the newest of the Daring Doo books, while Spike was off reading a comic on the stairs. The couple shared the occasional loving nuzzle, or peck on the cheek as they passed the time to their date. Before long Twilight looked to the clock to see that it was just a short time before they had to leave. She prodded Rainbow on the shoulder and said, "We have to get ready now, Rainbow." With a sigh Rainbow closed the book and the two mares got up from where they lay. Twilight levitated the book to it's proper spot on it's shelf, and the two mares headed for the stairs. They took a quick shower, and Twilight brushed her mane and tail. Last of all, they helped each other into their dresses. "Rainbow, could you go wait for me down stairs?" Twilight asked. Rainbow furrowed her brow, before responding, "Why?" "Well... I got this new mane clip and I wanted to do a reveal for you," Twilight quickly replied. Rainbow chuckled lightly to herself before replying, "Uh, okay I'll be waiting for you," she said heading for the stairs. When Rainbow reached the main room of the library she looked back up to make sure that Twilight had not followed her, when she knew it was safe she went over to Twilight's desk and looked behind it spotting the small, velvet covered box instantly, right where she had hidden it. Rainbow smiled as she picked the box up and hid it in her dress, Looks like this thing is good for something after all, she thought to herself. Rainbow then went to the center of the room where she waited for her mare to descend the stairs. She didn't have to wait long. After only a few seconds Twilight emerged through the doorway, with her new mane pin, that took on the image of Rainbow's cutie mark, in her hair, "So, how does it look?" she asked. "It look's awesome on you," Rainbow said, then added, "Of course you always look awesome." Twilight let out a short giggle at Rainbow's statement, "Come on, lets get going." she said, walking to the door. "Way ahead of you!" already holding the door open for Twilight. Once outside, they were soon on their way. The walk to The Celestial Gardens was fairly short and they were able to skip the long line of ponies with their reservations. Once seated, they sat in silence as they waited, lost in each others eyes. Neither of them noticed when the waiter walked up to their table. "Ahem," he cleared his throat to get their attention... and when that failed he tried a more forward approach, "Excuse me madams, but could I take your orders?" Jolted, the two mares looked to the waiter, slightly surprised, before Twilight answered him, "Oh, um, of course," She looked down at her menu, "... I'll get the... hayghetti, and to drink a glass of orange wine, please." The waiter made a note on his note pad, then turned to look at Rainbow Dash, "And for you?" he asked. Rainbow looked at the menu for a moment, then back at the waiter, "Could I get a hay burger?" He just continued to look at her with a straight face. Twilight let out a sigh as her hoof met her face, "She'll get the same as me," she told the waiter. The waiter made one more quick mark on his note pad before he took the menus and walked away. Twilight looked at Rainbow across the table, "Really, Rainbow?" she let out a soft giggle. "What? I like hay burgers, Is there a problem with that?" She replied with a shrug. Twilight let out another sigh (although this one was more from her mare's predictability), before telling Rainbow, "No." The two mares fell into idle chatter, talking about the newest Daring Doo book that they were reading and any other random topics as they waited for their food to arrive. When it finally came, they fell to silence. They just stared into each others eyes, this time without being interrupted, as the meal passed in a quiet bliss. After they had finished eating and payed the bill, they left The Celestial Gardens and took a detour on their way back to the library, ending up on a hill on the edge of Ponyville. As the couple stood on the hill they looked up at the stars and the beautiful full moon. With ease and confidence granted by experience, Rainbow casually wrapped Twilight in a soft, warm wing. The two of them stood there on the hill for what seemed like an eternity passed to quickly. Twilight would occasionally point out a constellation, and Rainbow would respond with a comment on how it could look cooler. Eventually, they turned to look at each other. They gazed into each others eyes once more, before Twilight turned her head away, looking back over her shoulder. Rainbow, taking this chance, used a wing to grab the small box out from her dress and held it in front of her, using her other wing to flick it open. "Twilight Sparkle-" "Rainbow Dash-" "- will you marry me?" They asked in unison. A look of confusion appeared on both the mares' faces as they looked at each other, in the box Rainbow Dash had flipped open sat a golden ring, Twilight's cutie mark recreated by gemstones on the top. In Twilight's levitation field floated a rectangular box that had been opened to reveal a golden necklace with a pendant made of gemstones imitating Rainbow's cutie mark. As soon as Rainbow had realized what had happened she was on the ground laughing. Twilight, who was trying (and failing) to suppress her own laughter Spoke the thought both of them were thinking, "how did we propose to each other at the same time?" before joining Rainbow on the ground. After the two of them had calmed down and gotten back to their hooves they looked at each other, "I can't believe we did this again. First we ask each other out on a first date at the same time and now this," she motioned to the two of them then sighed, "It's like it's scripted or something." she added as an afterthought. Rainbow let out another giggle. "Tell you what, if you say yes to me then I'll say yes to you?" Twilight giggled and shook her head, "Okay, Rainbow Dash I'd gladly marry you," she said as she levitated the ring onto her horn, then looked to her new fiance. "And I would love to marry you Twilight Sparkle," Rainbow stated, smiling... before yelling, "And Rainbow wins again!" "Win? Win what...? The bet!" Twilight exclaimed, her eyes widening, she then looked at her mare, "Horseapples!" It wasn't long before the two mares were standing outside of the library looking once again into each others eyes. They slowly leaned into their first kiss as fiancees, a deep kiss, their tongues curling around each other's. They stayed like this for almost two minutes before they had to separate for air. Breathing heavily, they locked eyes one last time before heading inside, a long and happy life ahead of them.
