The princess in the Twilight
A lone alicorn limped along a road, which years ago would have been the Main Street for a grand city.
The city, like many other creations were nothing more than casualties in war.
The Alicorn, voiced its name in her mind.
Canterlot. The Alicorn's home.
She flapped her wings and flew away leaving the ruin and the memories of here home a once gone time.
CHERUB
She flew carefully as she was injured.
She arrived at the place she was living, an underground cave area accessed by a sizeable tree house, as she entered she was greeted by a roar.
"Woah spike don't worry it's just me" twilight told spike undaunted by his roar.
She used her horn to cast magical light over the cavern.
Spikes form became illuminated, no longer the small baby dragon he used to be.
Now he was a truly terrifying sight, the small green spines along his head and back were now longer and thinner, he had wings with similar spines running along them culminating in his razor sharp claws. His head had elongated, and his teeth had grown.
His was in any sense of the word a dragon.
Twilight took her saddle bags of and placed them next the large table in the centre of the cave, the majority of the table was covered by a map.
She used her magic to levitate a pen across the map, to where canterlot was written. She crossed it out.
"No luck then" boomed the grown up dragon.
"None, Canterlot is rubble, not even the castle still stands" twilight replied trying to hide the emotion in her voice.
"It's okay to be upset about it twilight, you grew up there it's expected that you'd feel sad about having to visit it".
Damn it he'd noticed her emotion, she didn't want to talk about it. Canterlot was the last thing she wanted to talk about.
"Spike look, you know I hate talking about Canterlot, especially with all that's happened in the last..." Her voice trailed off.
A thought occurred to her, how long had it been since, since the princesses betrayed the country that had protected for so long.
How long had it been since twilight and her friends had started a resistance, the army of twilight.
How long had it been since she, their leader had marched upon Canterlot to the gates of the castle.
How long had been since she started the war.
12 Years Ago
"Attention citizens of equestria this is your leader, princess Celestia, as of next week the day/and night cycle will be modified to a monthly cycle, many of your crops will die, many of your livestock will die, and many of you will die"
Princess celestia was magically broadcasting her speech from the sun itself, everyone in equestria was forced to see and hear their beloved princess betray them.
She continued "as of the week after all earth ponies witll be rounded up and put in camps in central equestria, all Pegasi will be put in camps to the north, their wing will be clipped. Every unicorn whos skill in magic is less than acceptable will have their horns removed and they will be put in camps in the south. Unicorns who do have sufficient skill in magic will be enlisted in the die un nocte army, those who refuse will either be killed or placed in camps with the other unicorns, thank you for your time" the princess ended the transmission.
PONYVILLE: GOLDEN OAKS LIBRARY
Outside the home of the newly crowned princess twilight sparkle, a massive horde had formed all frantically screaming and begging twilight for answers. Twilight herself was inside with her friends. "Twilight what on earth does she mean" a worried rarity asked.
Before twilight could answer she was cut of "what do you mean, what does she she mean, she's gonna cut your horn of mine and fluttershy's wings off and put us camps till we die from lack of sun" a very angry rainbow dash retorted, slamming her hoof down on the desk.
Twilight tried get a word in but was cut off again. "I don't wanna get put in camp, that sounds boring, I bet they don't even have parties in camps, oh oh oh could you imagine. Imagine life without parties, and there definitely wouldn't be any cupcakes, I love cupcakes I can't live without cupcakes. I don't wanna go to a camp" pinkie said as her happiness left her by the end her hair had gone straight and she was holding back tears. "I don't want to go to a camp either, how will I look after my poor little animals" fluttershy softly agreed as she went over to comfort pinkie pie.
"Now gir-" twilight was cut off for the last time. "Ah don't think it's anything we should be worrying about ah mean it's gotta be a joke, if she put the Pegasi away who'd control the weather, and who'd grow the food if they're weren't any earth ponies. I bet it's just a joke." Applejack said, deciding whether or not she believed herself.
"GIRLS" twilight yelled "I'm going to go see the princess very soon, I'll get answers then, till then can you all see if you can do something about that mob out the front" then she vanished in a ball of purple light.
CANTERLOT: ROYAL CASTLE
As twilight appeared in the throne room of the castle all she could hear was the roaring cries coming from the open door leading to the balcony. Standing on the balcony was princess luna.
"WE HAVE NO REASON TO ANSWER TO YOUCITZENS OF EQUESTRIA YOU SHOULD GO ABOUT LIVING YOUR LADT DAYS AND ENJOYING WHAT YOU PITIFUL BEINGS CALL LIVES" Luna's voice struck through the cacophony of distressed yells silencing them.
"Luna, what is going why are you doing this?" Twilight asked frantically.
"Ah do not worry yourself, all will be revealed soon enough my young princess come with me into the royal study, we will speak Celestia" reassured the night princess.
Twilight knowing that the best way to get was to cooperate, went along with the princess. They walked in silence.
The door to the study was already open. As they entered it closed behind the and clicked.
The first thing twilight sway was the large round table in the centre of the room, there were four seats. Two were empty.
"Welcome sister and my faithful student, we have been expecting you" the familiar voice of twilights mentor called out.
Luna took her seat to the right of her elder sister, princess cadence was setting opposite to them, the only empty seat was on the other side of the table. Twilight sat down. "Princess celestia what does all this mean, what are planning but first WHY?" Twilight frantically questioned.
"My most faithful student, rest assured that nothing I do is without reason, there is a reason for my declaration, and that reason is you" twilight was shocked but let her mentor continue "in the ancient texts there is a prophecy, when four princesses come together, their race will restored, this was to celebrate you coronation twilight"
Twilight didn't know what to say.
