> MLP: Spike's Story > by Aura Zero > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Episode 1-2: New Resident Dragon Part I > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Aaaand, done! Perfect!" A green and purple dragon said happily as he finished wrapping his present. "I'm sure Moondancer will like this present!' He said happily as he started towards the door. I wonder if she will like it so much that she might give me a hug! I sure do love her hugs! Maybe even- The dragon was cut off from his thoughts as he was hit by the door suddenly opening and knocking him and his gift clean across the room. "Spike! Spiiiiike! Spike?" Said the pony that opened the door. Spike rubbed his head and looked up to see his best friend, a lavender unicorn with a dark blue mane and tail with a strip of faded rose and violet. I wish Twilight would have opened the door more slowly... wait where is my gift? Spike looked around before noticing his gift pierced on his tail. Well that's just great... "Whats that for?" Twilight asked curiously. "Well, it was a gift for Moondancer, but..." Spike started before pieces fell from the gift. . "Oh Spike. you know we don't have time for things like that." "But we're on break!' Spike complained. Twilight ignored him and started to rummage through random books. Spike frowned at the mess she was making before climbing a ladder and pulling the correct book he heard her ask for out. "It's right here!" Spike said as he held the book. He suddenly felt himself pulled with the book right toward her, ending up with him landing face first into the ground. "Ow! Geez Twi! Just take the book, not my arm with it!" Twilight took the book and walked away. Spike got up and saw the mess that she made. "Great, another mess to clean. And i just finished too..." Spike grabbed a few books and climbed a ladder to replace them. He overheard Twilight say Mare in the Moon. "Mare in the Moon? Isn't that an old pony's tale?" He said aloud. I remember hearing about that story a long time ago. Wait why is she looking for stuff like this anyways? He thought as he put the books away. He was so focused on putting them away that he didn't hear much of what Twilight said. "Spike, do you know what this means?" Twilight asked. "Uh, no?" Spike said looking at her but when he did, he lost his footing and fell off the ladder right onto Twilight's back. He sighed in relief. "Take a note Spike." Twilight said giving him a quill and parchment. "Sure thing!" Spike said as he hopped off her and got ready. He then started to write down what she said. After writing what she said, he spoke up. "Got it." "Great! Send it." Spike hesitated. "Now?" Twilight nodded. "I don't know Twilight. She is quite busy with the summer sun celebration and that's coming up the day after tomorrow." "That's exactly it. The thousandth year is the day after tomorrow and its imperative that she knows this." Twilight said. Spike merely obliged and made a small note in the corner saying 'important' before sending off the letter. Barely ten seconds pass and Spike burps up Celestia's response. He opens it and reads. "Ahem. My dearest and most faithful student Twilight. You know that I value your diligence and that I trust you completely, but you simply must stop reading those dusty old books. There is more to a pony's life than studying, so I am sending you to advise the preparations for the Summer Sun Celebration in this years town, Ponyville. Also, I have an even more essential task for you to complete: make some friends." Spike looked at Twilight and saw that she was in shock at what the letter said. Spike spoke up. "Guess we're going on a field trip then." Spike and Twilight were sitting on a chariot towards Ponyville. Spike was excited himself on coming here mainly to meet new ponies and not have to worry about cleaning up books after Twilight today. He then noticed that Twilight seemed down. "Aww, cheer up Twi. At least she arranged for you to stay in a library. Doesn't that make you happy?" Spike said trying to cheer her up. She perked up. "Yes. It does. First, I will check up on the preparations as fast as I can, then I will head to the library and find proof of Nightmare Moon's return." "Then, when will you make friends like Celestia said?" Honestly, I think that is more important. "She said to check on preparations. I am her faithful student and will attend to that duty, but the fate of Equestria does not rest on me making friends." Neither does checking on preparations, but you will be doing that anyways. I'm thinking you're just trying to avoid that aspect of her instructions... Spike then noticed a pony walking his direction. He decided to speak up. "Maybe the ponies here have something interesting to talk about. Just give it a try." Twilight looked at her. "Um, hi?" The pony gasped loudly before dashing away. Spike merely stared in surprise. That could have turned out better... Spike just decided to get out the checklist and start with the preparations. "Alright, first on the list is banquet preparations. It's located at Sweet Apple Acres." The duo then proceeded towards the farm to check on the progress. As soon as they got there, they heard a voice. "Yee-haw!" The duo turned and saw an orange pony with a blond mane wearing a Stetson running before hitting a tree, sending apples to some baskets. That was pretty neat. Maybe Twi can be friends with her. Spike thought as they walked over to the mare. "Good afternoon. My name is Twilight Sparkle." Twilight said extending a hoof. The pony then took it and started shaking it rapidly. "Well, howdy to ya Twilight! A pleasure making your acquaintance. Ah'm Applejack. We here at Sweet Apple Acres sure do like making new friends." Spike smiled at this. Great! He turned to Twilight and noticed that she was still swinging her hoof rapidly after Applejack let go. He grabbed her hoof and stopped it, laughing at her. Twilight cleared her throat. "Well, I am here in fact to supervise preparations for the Summer Sun Celebration. And you're in charge of the food?" "Ah sure am! Care ta try some?" "Sure, as long as it doesn't take too long...." All of a sudden, Applejack dashed away and began using a spoon to hit a metal triangle loudly. "Soups on everypony!" Spike heard noise behind him and turned, seeing multiple ponies rush them. They pushed them straight to a table. "Now, why don't ah introduce ya to the whole Apple family." Apple said as multiple ponies popped up. This sure is a big family... Why are they all named after food though? Spike thought as Applejack started naming off the ponies; each one bringing a treat to the table. After naming them all, and Applejack shoving an apple in Twilight's mouth, she spoke up again. "Well, ah'll say you're already part of the family." Twilight then proceeded to spit out the apple, sending it all over Spike. Ah! What gives! You could have just swallowed the apple Twi! Spike looked at Twilight and noticed she didn't want to stay. The ponies seemed sad at this. "Come on Twi, it wouldn't hurt." Spike pressed. Twilight sighed. "Fine." At that, the ponies cheered and allowed them to feast on the food.Spike wasted no time and started devouring the treats, starting with an apple fritter. He then moved on to a pie, then dumplings, and many more. "Mmph! Wow! this stuff tastes amazing!" Spike said happily as he was eating on another treat. "Why thank ya kindly. Ah never got yer name there little guy." Applejack said as she walked over to him. Spike swallowed before speaking. "Im Spike! Twilight's number one assistant!" Applejack nodded at him. "Well, nice ta meet ya Spike. Yer the first dragon Ah've seen that doesn't seem hungry fer ponies instead of apples." "Well, I'm pony hatched and the thought of hurting a pony seems wrong to me." Spike said picking up another treat. "Well, that's great ta hear! Hope we can be good friends too then!" Spike smiled wide. "That sounds great!" I never thought of becoming friends with others too. This can be a great opportunity to make friends for me as well. After eating their fill and Twilight complaining about eating too much pie, the duo proceeded back to town. Spike pulled the checklist out and looked at the next item. "Hmm, says here that there should be a pegasus pony named Rainbow Dash clearing the clouds right now." Spike said as he looked up. He noticed that the clouds were still spread out and not cleared. Seems like somepony isn't doing their job. "Well she isn't doing a very good job, is she?" Twilight said and Spike shrugged. All of a sudden a rainbow blur smacked right into Twilight, sending her and whatever hit her right into some mud. Spike panicked slightly and walked over to see if they were okay. He then noticed that this pegasus had a rainbow mane. She must be Rainbow Dash. Wonder why she hasn't cleared the clouds yet... Spike said as he watched Rainbow Dash fly a raincloud over and douse Twilight. Spike giggled slightly at her irritated face. "Haha, maybe I overdid it a bit. How about this?" She then proceeded to twirl around Twilight at high speeds, making a rainbow tornado. "That's my famous Rainblow Dry! No, no. Don't thank me. You're quite welcome." Spike turned and saw Twilight. Her mane was messy and fluffed up in random directions. He couldn't hold his laughter in and burst out laughing right with Rainbow. Hah! Her hair! I cant breathe! "Let me guess. You're Rainbow Dash." Rainbow hopped up, sending Spike away and landing on his rear. He dusted himself off before looking at Twilight. He giggled again at her new hairstyle. I wish i had a camera right now. I'd so take a photo of this for more laughs later. "Hey. I can clear this sky in ten seconds flat." Rainbow Dash said with a frown. "I'd like to see that." Spike said as he looked at all the clouds. "Prove it then." Twilight said. All of a sudden, Rainbow Dash bolted off and started hitting every cloud, dissipating them at a fast speed. It wasn't long before she erased every cloud from the sky. Spike stared at the pegasus in shock. What the? Wow! Did she just do that? "What I tell ya? Ten seconds flat. I'd never leave Ponyville hangin'." Spike snapped out of it and noticed that Twilight was awestruck as well. Wow. To get her like this, you have to be pretty awesome, and I have to say, that was awesome. "Hah! you should see the look on your face right now. You're a laugh Twilight Sparkle. I cant wait to hang out some more." She then took off, doing a few tricks before leaving. "Wow! She's amazing!" Spike said, but then noticed her hair again. Giggling, he played with it, eliciting an exasperated sigh from her while she walked away. "Wait! It's kinda pretty when you get used to it." Key word being kinda. Spike giggled at that thought. They then proceeded towards the main hall. Spike pulled out his list once they got inside. "Next up, decorations." Spike looked around. It looks pretty nice. I wond- Spike's thoughts came to a screeching halt when he looked toward the center of the room. There was a unicorn there with a pure white coat and luscious Violet hair that was curled and flowed elegantly. She had the most alluring Sapphire blue eyes with light blue eyeshadow on. "Beautiful...." Spike said dreamily as he stared at her. "Yes. the decor is coming around nicely." Twilight said. "Not the decor. Her." Spike said pointing to the mare he was staring at. He then started to check himself making sure he looked nice and presentable. "How are my spines? Are they straight?" Twilight said nothing and even if she did, he wouldn't have noticed as he was back to admiring her. I have never met a pony as stunning as her. I wonder what's her take on dragons? Probably like everypony else. I'll just have to show her that I'm different! That I'm a nice dragon. Show her I'm a gentledrake. Yes that's it. Wow her! He then heard her say her name in third person. Rarity? That's a beautiful name. It suits her perfectly... Spike was pulled out his thoughts as he heard the pony yell loudly. He looked and saw what's up. "Oh my stars, darling! Whatever happened to your coiffure?" Spike chuckled quietly at that. "Oh, you mean my mane? Well, it's a long story. I'm just here to check up on the decorations and then I'll be out of you hair." Out of her hair? More like your hair Twi. Spike chuckled at that thought. "Out of my hair? What about your hair?" Spike eyes grew wide. We said the same thing! We must be meant for each other! Spike thought dreamily as he watched as Twilight got pushed away, him using his tail as a propeller and floating behind them. After leaving the Town Hall, Spike practically being dragged since he was still admiring Rarity, the duo were heading to the next location. "Wasn't she wonderful?" Spike said still thinking of the mare. "Focus Casanova. What's next on the list?" That snapped him out of his thought, "Oh, heh right. Next is music. It's the last one." All of a sudden they heard something. It sounded like a chorus of some kind. "That must be it. It's coming from over here." Spike said as he hopped off and proceeded towards a bush. After popping out the other side, he saw what was making the sound. It was a chorus of birds singing and a yellow pegasus with a pink mane was orchestrating them. Wow, the ponies here are sure something.... except that random pink pony from earlier. Spike noticed Twilight go talk to her and speak loudly, scaring away the birds. Nice one Twi. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare away your birds. I just came to check up on the music and it sounded beautiful." The mare said nothing but pawed at the floor. She seems shy... Twilight tried again to talk to her. "I'm Twilight Sparkle.... What's your name?" At this she finally spoke. "Um, I'm Fluttershy" ...What? "I'm sorry, what was that?" Twilight asked. "Uh, my name is Fluttershy." Yup, she's shy. "Didn't quite catch that." Twilight said trying to get her to speak louder. The mare merely backed away, making a small squeak and hiding behind her mane. .... That's too cute. I wonder if she is doing that on purpose, or is really that shy around ponies. The birds came back and Twilight decided to leave. At that, Spike decided to come out the bushes. "Well, that was easy." Twilight said to Spike. He shrugged and was about to speak before he heard a loud gasp. "A baby dragon!" The previously assumed shy mare said loudly before rushing over and knocking Twilight out the way. So much for shy... "I've never seen a baby dragon before! He's so cute!" She said gushing over him. Spike smiled. "Well, well, well!" "Oh, my! You talk! I didn't know dragons could talk." You must not know much about dragons then. "That's just so incredibly wonderful... I, I just don't know what to say!" All of a sudden a familiar aura engulfed Spike and pulled him onto Twilight's back. "Well, in that case, we'd better be going." Twilight said as she tried to walk away. The pegasus merely followed. "Wait, wait! What's your name?" "I'm Spike." "Hi Spike. I'm Fluttershy." That name surprisingly fits her.... "And what do dragons talk about?" That confused Spike. "Uh, what do you wanna know?" "Absolutely everything!" Fluttershy said happily, making Twilight groan loudly. Everything huh? Spike smiled. "Well, I started as a cute little spotted purple egg." "And that's the story of my life, well, up until today. Do you want to hear about today?" Spike said as the neared the library that they will be staying at. "Oh yes please!" Fluttershy said happily. But before Spike could say a word, Twilight spun around to face her. "Oh I'm so sorry. How did we get here so fast? This is where I'm going to be staying while in Ponyville, and my poor baby dragon needs his sleep." Spike frowned at that. "No I don- whoa!" Twilight bounced him off sending him to the ground. "Aww look at that. He's so sleepy he cant keep his wittle bawance." I know she isn't speaking like that to me... Oh I'll get you for this Twi- whoa! Spike's thoughts were interrupted as he was lifted by Fluttershy. "Oh, poor dragon. You must get into bed." She said as she started to take him inside before Twilight intervened, pushing her back out. "Yes, yes. We'll get right on that. Well goodnight!" Twilight said before slamming the door shut. Spike didn't like how she was acting. "Rude much Twi? And the baby talk? I'm not a newborn." "Sorry Spike. But I have to convince the princess that Nightmare moon is coming and we are running out of time! I just need to be alone so I can study without a bunch of crazy ponies trying to make friends all the time." That should be a good thing... "Now where is the light?" All of a sudden, the lights clicked on and they were surrounded by ponies. "Surprise!" Spike nearly jumped out his scales at the shout. "What the? What's going on?" "Hi! I'm Pinkie Pie and I threw this party just for you two! We're you surprised? We're you? Huh? Huh? Huh?" The pink pony said from earlier. "I sure was." Spike said with a smile on his face. Neat! Our very own party. I can't remember the last time we had one of these. "Very surprised....libraries are supposed to be quiet." Twilight said with an annoyed look. Spike frowned at her. Here we go... Before Twilight could say more, Pinkie hopped next to her. "That's silly! What kind of welcome to Ponyville party would this be if it were quiet? I mean duh! Booooorrring! You see, I saw you when you first got here remember? You were like 'hello' and I was like *gasp* remember?" She talks alot. Spike thought as she rambled on about nothing important. Twilight went to the table and poured something to drink. She started drinking, obviously ignoring the rambling mare. The least you could do is listen to her. You really don't want to make friends that badly? Spike thought before noticing something wrong with Twilight. Her face started turning red and water was coming from her eyes. "You alright Twi?" Spike asked. Suddenly, her coat paled and her mane and tail looked like it was on fire before she bolted off upstairs. Curious, Spike eyed the drink she grabbed, noticing what it was. "Hot Sauce? Who puts hot sauce by cupcakes and drinks?" All of a sudden, Pinkie tips his hand, pouring some on a nearby cupcake before devouring it. Spike stared at her in slight disgust. Well, that answers my question. "Ya think she is gonna be okay up there?" Applejack said looking up the stairs. Spike dismissed her concern with a wave of his claw. "Yeah, she'll be fine." "By the way, I never happened to get your name dear." Rarity said, getting Spike's full attention, along with a slight blush. "Oh, I'm Spike! Twilight's number one assistant at your service!" Spike said giving them a subtle bow. "Quite the gentlecolt- er, dragon aren't you?" Rarity said with a smile. Spike smiled widely at that and started to rub his spines on the back of his head. "Heh, I try." "Well, Spike! Are you ready to party?" Pinkie said hopping over to him. "I sure am!" Spike said excitedly. "Then lets get this party started!" Dash yelled, as everypony cheered and started enjoying the festivities. Spike's first thought was to get a snack and a drink. He didn't eat or drink anything since meeting the Apple family and that was quite a while ago. As he grabbed a few cupcakes and poured himself a drink, he noticed Fluttershy coming over again. "Oh, hey Fluttershy. What's up?" She looked down shyly. "Oh, well, earlier it seemed you were tired and I was hoping that this party isn't ruining your chance to get some sleep." Spike shook his head. "Oh, don't worry about that. I was never really tired. Twilight was over exaggerating it." She looked up and smiled slightly. "Oh, okay then." "Yo Spike!" Spike turned to see Rainbow Dash flying towards him. "What's up Rainbow Dash?" "How did ya come to be with ponies in the first place? I thought dragons didn't like ponies that much." "Well, Twi hatched me from my egg and I was raised around only ponies." "Twilight raised you?" Applejack said as she walked over, interested in the story. "Nah, she was too young for that. I was raised by Celestia actually." "Princess Celestia raised you!?" Rarity asked excitedly, jumping in the conversation. Spike didn't mind and smiled sweetly at her. "Yup! I hung out with Twi alot, seeing as she was being tutored by the princess. When I finally could do much on my own, the princess decided to let me be her assistant!" "That sounds super fantastic!" Pinkie said hopping around the dragon. Spike smiled at them all. They are really nice mares. I don't see why Twi doesn't give them a chance. I'm sure if she stopped focusing on that silly fairy tale, she could actually make some friends. Spike was pulled from his thoughts as he heard music coming on. "Aww yeah! Time to dance!" Pinkie said happily as she dashes to the center and starts to dance. Spike smiled. "Sounds like fun!" he said before joining the mare and others as they all started dancing. Spike was having the time of his life. As he was dancing, some other ponies smiled his way and he smiled back at them. I'm starting to like this town more than Canterlot already! It's gonna suck when we have to leave but I'm going to enjoy it while I still can. Spike noticed a gray pegasus mare with faded blonde hair dancing goofy by a table. He chuckled lightly before proceeding to dance again. However, he didn't notice the mare ending up kicking the lamp and sending the lamp shade right towards him and landing on his head. Some ponies stopped and stared. The pegasus rushed over. "Oops! My bad!" Spike smiled and adjusted it on his head so he could see. He noticed her eyes were off. Huh. Never seen that before. "Are you okay?" The grey mare asked. Spike smiled. "I'm fine. I kinda like it. Fits like a hat. I think I'm gonna keep it on." The mare giggled at that. "I'm Derpy Hooves by the way." "Names Spike." "Nice to meet you Spike!" Before he could reply, Pinkie spoke up. "Hey everypony! It's time to play pin the tail on the pony!" Spike grew excited and wanted to play too. He was about to walk over but turned towards the stairs. She hasn't come out yet. I should try to see if she wants to play too. Spike turned to the ponies. "I'm going to see if Twi wants to join. Be right back." At that, he walked up the stairs to the room. He opened the door and saw Twilight on the bed with a pillow on her head. "Twilight! Pinkie is about to start pin the tail on the pony. You should come play with us." "No! All the ponies in this town are crazy! Do you know what time it is?" Spike sighed. She seemed to have forgotten what today is. "Today is the eve of the Summer Sun Celebration Twi. Everypony has to stay up or they'll miss it when the princess raises the sun. You should know that Twi." She rolled her eyes at him. Spike sighed again before speaking up. "You really should lighten up Twi. It's a party, something you haven't been to in a while." He then turned and left her, Twilight mumbling something as he left. As he got to the bottom of the stairs, ponies were already playing the game. Applejack and Fluttershy walked over to him. "So, is she comin'?" Applejack asked. Spike frowned. "I don't think so. She isn't really a social pony." "Oh, well maybe she might come out later." Fluttershy said. Spike shrugged. "Maybe, but in the meantime, its my turn!" Spike then took the blindfold that a mare with a pale goldenrod coat and a carrot orange mane gave after pinning the tail on the pony's nose. Guess I'll show em how its done! Time seemed to fly by after Spike won pin the tail on the pony. His reward for winning was a Sapphire, which he happily ate, surprising a few ponies and making Rarity faint dramatically. Seems most ponies don't know much about dragons... Spike thought after happily helping Rarity to a couch to relax. Soon after more games and dancing, and meeting more ponies, It came time to head to the town hall for the celebration. Spike walked towards Twilight's room to get her. "Hey Twilight! Lets go. Its time to watch the sunrise!" Twilight turned to him and nodded before they both headed out to town hall. All the ponies already started leaving and before Spike left, he noticed that the area was clean. Huh? Did everypony take the stuff with them? Oh well. At least I wont have to clean anything up. Spike and Twilight made it to Town Hall shortly. Most of the ponies were gathered, some flying overhead because of the amount coming in. They proceeded to the front so to get the best view. When they got there, Pinkie sprinted over to them. "Isn't this great? Are you excited, cause I'm excited, I've never been so excited, well except for the time when I saw you walking into town and went *gasp*. But, I mean really, who can top that?" Yup, a whole bunch of nothing.... Spike thought as he hopped of Twilight and shook his head. All of a sudden the chorus of birds from earlier started to sing. The spotlight then moved down to a single mare on stage. "Fillies and gentlecolts! As mayor of Ponyville, it is my great pleasure to announce the beginning of the Summer Sun Celebration!" Everypony cheered at that, seeming to be excited of the event. They calmed down before the mayor spoke again. "In just a few moments, our town will witness the magic of the sunrise and celebrate this, the longest day of the year. And now, it is my great honor to introduce you the ruler of our land. The very pony who gives us the sun and the moon every day. The good, the wise, the bringer of harmony to all of Equestria.... Princess Celestia!" The spotlight moved towards a curtain that was pulled back by Rarity revealing.... no one? Huh? Where's Celestia? Spike thought looking confused. "This cant be good..." Twilight said nervously. All the ponies started chatting, wondering where the princess is. "Now, calm down everypony. There must be a reasonable explanation." "Oh! Oh! I love guessing games! Is she hiding?" Pinkie said looking in random directions. Spike then noticed Rarity coming from the back area. "She's gone!" Everypony gasped. "Whoo, she's good." Pinkie said obliviously making Spike faceclaw at her comment. All of a sudden, Pinkie screeched, surprising Spike. He turned to where she was looking and saw a blue smoke appearing from where Celestia was going to be. Rarity panicked and sprinted away from that location back to where everypony else was. "Oh no... Nightmare Moon." Twilight whispered. It's her? So she is real then! Oh no, this wont end well... Spike thought staring at the alicorn that came from the blue mist. "Oh, my loyal subjects! It's been so long since I've seen your precious sun loving faces." "What did you do with our princess?" Rainbow Dash said angrily, trying to fly at her before being stopped by Applejack. Nightmare Moon laughed. "Why, am I not royal enough for you? Don't you know who I am?" "Oh, Oh! More guessing games! Um... Hokey Smokes? How about Queen Meanie? No, Black Snooty, Black Snoot-" Pinkie was interrupted by an apple being shoved in her mouth by Applejack. I'm kinda glad she did that. what even made her come up with those names in the first place? "Does my crown no longer count, now that I have been imprisoned for a thousand years? Did you not recall the legend? Did you not see the signs?" "I did! And I know who you are! You're the mare in the moon, Nightmare Moon!" Twilight said glaring at her. Everypony gasped. Nightmare Moon was slightly surprised. "Well, well, well. Somepony who remembers me. Then you also know why I'm here." "You're here to... to..." Twilight gulped loudly. Nightmare moon laughed again sinisterly. "Remember this day little ponies, for it was your last. From this moment forth, the night will last forever!" "Seize her! Only she knows where the princess is!" The mayor said. Three royal guards then dashed right at the princess, planning to detain her. Not a good idea... Spike thought before watching as the pegasi get struck by bolts of magic sending them flying in random directions. One of the pegasus was sent right towards Twilight. "Twi! look out!" Spike said before pushing her out the way, the pegasus instead hitting him. "Spike!" Twilight said as she saw them roll right to a pillar before Spike hit his head hard, knocking him unconscious. > Episode 1-2: New Resident Dragon Part II > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spike groaned as he awoke from his slightly painful nap. "Ow, my head. Must have taken a hard hit to affect me like this..." Spike tried to get up and noticed he was tucked nicely in his bed. Twi must have put me here after the whole incident... Wait, where is she? Spike looked around and noticed she wasn't around. He then heard noise downstairs. "She must be down there looking for some way to stop this from happening. I mean come on, eternal night? How would that even work?" Spike frowned at the whole situation. "Twi was right. It happened just like she said and I didn't even believe her.... Some assistant I am. I gotta make it up to her!" With new resolve, Spike quickly ran down the stairs, eager to help his long time friend out in any way possible. Once he could see the ground level of the library, he noticed Twilight with five mares: Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Rarity. They were crowded around her as she read from a book in her magic. "It is said that the last known location of the five elements was in the ancient castle of the royal pony sisters. It is now located in what is now the Everfree forest!" Spike's eyes grew wide at this. The Everfree Forest? But its dangerous there! Spike then noticed that the mares started to leave. "Wait!" Spike called out to them but it was too late and they didn't hear them. He decided to follow and try to catch up, but stopped when he got outside. The town was in a panic. Ponies were running every which way, no real destination in mind. Spike looked at the retreating forms of the six mares and back at the town. "I have to calm these ponies down. I'm sure Twilight can figure this out without me. I have full faith in her. I'll make sure that the town is okay when they get back!" Spike said before running towards Town hall again. The town looked a mess for some reason. Carts were flipped over, spilling produce everywhere, plants and small gardens were trampled over, its like nopony had any common sense when trouble hits. Spike finally made it to the Town Hall, which was just as bad, if not worse than the town itself. Most ponies were still there panicking, screaming and yelling that the world is ending and such. The world isn't ending, she didn't even say that. Spike thought before getting on stage. He wanted to get everypony's attention for this to work out. "Listen up everypony!" Spike said loudly, but it was drowned out by the panicked yells of the ponies. "Quiet down!" Spike tried but it was still no use. He then noticed a megaphone nearby him. Well that's convenient. He then picked it up and took a deep breath before speaking. "Everypony listen up!!" Immediately after he finished speaking, the room got deathly silent and all heads turned to him. Their panicked stares made him slightly nervous, but he steeled himself to continue. He put the megaphone down and proceeded to talk. "This is no time to panic! Right now we need to stay calm. If we wait, things will be fine soon enough." Spike said calmly. "Wait for what? Our end?" One mare that he remembered was called Lyra said. "No. I'm sure things will work out. Twilight went out to go take care of things and soon, everything will be fine." Spike tried to reassure them. "Twilight? What can she do? She's just one pony. How can she stop that alicorn if the royal guard couldn't?" A mare named Sweetie Drops said nearby Lyra. "She didn't go alone. She was with Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Rarity. With Twilight leading them, I'm sure she will find a way to fix things. She is the Princess' faithful student after all and knows just about everything. I'm sure she knows a way to stop Nightmare Moon." "But what if they fail?" The mayor said frightened. "They wont. I have complete faith that Twilight will fix everything. So, in the meantime, we need to stay calm and not go into town panic mode. Plus we need to get some help for the injured guards here." Spike said pointing to two guards still unconscious and two groaning from some sort of injury. The mayor seemed to calm down at his words. "You're right. All we can do right now is hope for the best. Nurse Redheart! Help get these guards to the hospital so we can treat them!" A mare with a white coat and faded cerise mane jumped up with a quick nod. "I'll get right on it!" She said before her, along with a few other ponies, helped the injured ones up to their hooves, while one unconscious guard was taken by a big red stallion Spike remembered was called Big Macintosh. The other was lifted by two guards that came in late. Spike then looked around at the ruined Town hall and put up a smile before speaking up. "Hey, we might as well make this place look nice when they come back with the princess. Also, we should clean up the town and calm the frantic ponies outside as well. Who's with me?" The ponies smiled slightly and nodded before setting out to clean everything up. Some ponies went out to calm the rest of the populace that bolted away, while others decided to clean up Town Hall. Spike and the mayor worked together to make sure everything was in place and back to how it originally was. Thankfully, nothing was damaged and was merely moved, so fixing up the Town Hall was easy. After a few hours, they were done and Spike looked at the neat and nice looking hall once more. "Great job everypony! I'm sure the princess will love it when she gets back!" Spike then noticed outside still looked slightly tattered. "Now we gotta get the outside cleaned up." The ponies merely nodded and went outside to clean everything up. They fixed stands and returned the produce back to them. They also fixed a few doors from ponies breaking them out of panic. Spike was fixing an apple stand when something gleamed out the corner of his eye. He turned to look and, far off in the distance, he saw some light climbing over a hill. Spike smiled wide at seeing it. He noticed others stopped and stared at it as well. "Its the sun! Its rising!" "That means that everything is okay again! We're saved!" Spike smiled, looking at all the ponies cheering, glad that everything went well. I knew you could do it Twi. I believed in you one hundred percent. The mayor walked over to Spike with a big smile on her face. "I guess what you said earlier was the truth. Everything did turn out great in the end. I can't thank you enough for calming the town and myself down. Who knows what would've happened if things stayed the way it were." Spike smiled and rubbed his spines. "Aw, I didn't do much. Twilight and the others are the ones who must have stopped Nightmare Moon." Spike then had an idea, along with an image of a pink pony in mind. "Ya know, we should throw a party for them, thanking them for saving Equestria from eternal night and stuff." The mayor smiled happily. "That's an excellent idea! Attention everypony! Lets throw a thank you party for our friends before they return!" The ponies cheered before setting up the party all around the town. They decided since the sun has already risen that they can combine the party with the celebration. After finishing the setup, They all waited for the six to return, but didn't have to wait long as the six, along with a carriage holding two alicorns, came into view. They were curious on who the new alicorn was, but Spike didn't care. As soon as he saw Twilight, he bolted straight for her. "Twilight!" Spike said happily as he threw himself into a hug with her. He knew she would take care of things, but that still didn't keep him from worrying about the mare. "Hey Spike. Didn't think you would be awake right now. That hit looked painful." Twilight said happily nuzzling her assistant. "Of course I'd be awake. There was a problem, but I'm glad I didn't have to worry about it. I knew you would fix things Twi." Twilight smiled warmly. "Thanks Spike. What's all this?" She said gesturing to all the decorations across town. "It's a party we set up as a thank you for saving everypony!" Spike said proudly, signaling everypony else to cheer as they ran over and congratulated the mares. Spike smiled at the scene before noticing Twilight seemed down slightly. "Twilight? Something wrong?" Spike said nudging her. "Yes Twilight, is something the matter?" The two turned and saw Celestia walk over. "Aren't you happy that you have saved Equestria and can now go back to your studies in Canterlot?" Twilight sighed. "That's just it princess. I don't want to go back. After meeting and becoming friends with them, I then have to leave them before we truly gotten to know each other and become close." Spike smiled at that. Guess she did make friends after all. Sucks that we have to leave soon afterwards... Spike snapped out of his thoughts when Celestia addressed him. "Spike, take a letter." "On it!" Spike said using his fire to summon up a quill and parchment. I'm glad I learned to be able to bring up these easy. Now I don't have to walk around with them. "I, Princess Celestia, hereby decree that the unicorn Twilight Sparkle shall take on a new mission. She must learn the value of friendship and report to me her findings from her new home, Ponyville." Spike smiled as he wrote the message down. We get to stay? Awesome! Now we can hang with our new friends more! Although it will suck to pack everything and move it here... Spike turned and saw Twilight smiling wide, surrounded by her new friends. It was a genuine and pure smile, one Spike hasn't seen in a long time. I guess it would be worth it to see her smile like that every day. The party/celebration kicked off happily after that. Ponies started toasting and dancing, glad that the crisis was averted. Twilight spent some quality time with her new five best friends. Spike walked over to Celestia, who was chatting with the alicorn he remembered and grew curious about. "Hi princess!" Spike said with a smile. The two alicorns turned to him, Celestia smiling warmly at him, while the mysterious alicorn eyed him curiously. "Hello Spike. How are you?" "Great now that everything is back to normal... well, almost normal." Spike took a small glance at the six group of mares. He then turned back to them. "So, who's this if you don't mind me asking." Spike looked towards the other alicorn who shifted nervously. "Greetings. We are Princess Luna, Celestia's sister." Spike's eyes grew wide at hearing this. "Sister? Really? I never knew you had a sister! Why didn't you tell me?" Celestia frowned. "At the time, it wasn't something I was excited to speak of Spike..." Luna then nuzzled her sister making her smile again. Spike was still slightly confused. Where has she been all this time? I've never seen her around the castle. He decided to speak up on it. "So, where have you been this whole time? Were you on vacation or something?" This time, Luna frowned. Celestia returned the earlier gesture and nuzzled her gently. "Go ahead. I'm here if you need me." Luna solemnly nodded and looked at the dragon. "We are.... or we were, the mare that sought out eternal night." Spike's eyes grew wide at that but she continued before he could say anything. "We were so jealous of our sister and how she had the most attention, as well as all of the ponies admiring her day, however, slept or ignored our nights that we truly worked hard on to make beautiful. We just wanted others to enjoy our nights just as much but we became overcome with jealousy and turned into the Nightmare Moon that was defeated." Spike was completely surprised, however, after hearing the whole story, he felt a bit of pity for the alicorn. "Well, to be honest, I like the night a lot. I do admit that I sleep through it, mostly because of all the work I do for Twi during the day, but whenever I can, I do look out and admire the stars and moon. I don't know what it is, but the night time puts me at peace once I'm gazing at the stars." Luna was quite surprised at this information from the dragon. "Really? Thou does enjoy our nights?" Spike gave a warm smile. "I sure do. And I'm sure I'm not the only one." Luna smiled at this. "We thank thee, kind Spike." Spike smiled and waved a claw. "No thanks necessary princess. Welcome back to Equestria." Hearing that made the two alicorns giggle slightly. Spike waved at the two regal sisters before heading to the group of six mares, still smiling and conversing. Twilight noticed him and smiled. "Hey Spike. The mayor told me about what you did while we were gone." Twilight said with a grin. Spike blushed slightly and rubbed his scales. "Oh, yeah, heh, that was nothing really. I just wanted everypony to stop flippin' out ya know?" "It was something Spike." Fluttershy said smiling. "Yes dear. You helped calm down the ponies here so they wouldn't hurt themselves or anypony else." Rarity chimed in. "Yeah. Calming a whole frantic town is pretty sweet, considering you only been here a day." Rainbow Dash said. "You helped out alot Sugarcube. More than ya think." Applejack winked. "Plus, you threw us a 'welcome back after saving Equestria' party! I can tell you have some pretty good potential for party throwing!" Pinkie said happily. Twilight walked over and pulled him into a small hug. "You did a great job, my number one assistant." Spike smiled sweetly and hugged Twilight back. "Thanks Twi. It means a lot coming from you." After a while, the party ended and everypony went home except for the six mares and Spike. They were telling Spike the whole story of what happened on their journey through the Everfree. Spike was quite surprised of all that happened. It was like it was a test to prove that they each represented an element. I wonder... nah. It cant be that thought out... could it? "Spike?" Spike turned and saw Twilight next to him. "Yes?" "Ready to head home?" "Sure am Twi." Spike then hopped on Twilight's back and they both headed home, not to Canterlot, but to their new Library treehouse in Ponyville. > Episode 3: A Dragon's Ticket > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Nope. Nope. Definitely not." Spike was rummaging through a basket that Twilight was carrying while they helped Applejack with farming apples. I know that there is at least one good apple in here... Nope, that's not it. Spike thought as he tossed another apple. "Thank ya kindly fer the help Twilight. Ah bet Macintosh that ah would have all these golden delicious apples in the barn by lunchtime. If ah do, he's gonna walk down stirrup street in one of granny girdles." Applejack said. Spike chuckled lightly at that thought. That wouldn't be a pretty sight. Speaking of pretty, this apple looks nice- wait, never mind there's a worm in it. Spike tossed another apple as he heard Twilight speak up. "Thank Celestia the goal is lunchtime. All this work is making me hungry." "I know right?" Spike said as he tossed another apple, making it hit her in the head. She glared at him. "Sorry Twi." Spike said sheepishly. "Please Spike, you've been lounging on my back the whole time while we've been working." "Exactly. You two were taking so long that I missed snack time." Even though you could have used magic and levitated all the apples out the tree in the first place... All of a sudden Twilight's stomach started rumbling. Guess she must be hungrier than I thought. Lets see if we can fix that after I find a good one for me first. Spike started rummaging until he finally found two good ones. "Aha!" He proceeded to pick one of them up. Twilight looked at the apple and smacked her lips. "Wow Spike! That looks delicious!" Spike merely tossed it in his mouth and chomped happily on the tasty fruit. "Spike!" Spike looked and saw her staring at him irritably. "What? I've got one for you too Twi." Spike said as he pulled another delicious looking apple out. Twilight perked up at seeing it. "Wow, thanks Spi-" However, she didn't get the chance to take it as Spike felt the familiar sensation in his stomach before burping up a scroll, burning the apple in the process and sending it away eliciting a groan from the mare. -Meanwhile in Canterlot- "I hope Twilight and Spike will attend the Gala this year. It's quite boring there and maybe it might liven things up if they came." Celestia said as she sent the letter along with the invitations. "We are quite certain they shall dear sister." Luna said with a smile as she was laying beside her sister. All of a sudden a plume of green appeared before a apple appeared from out of it, landing in front of them. "Well, thou subject hast a very peculiar response." Luna said eying the treat. Celestia merely picked it up and took a bite. After swallowing, she smiled. "I'm not complaining. This is tasty." -Back to Ponyville- "Ahem. Hear ye, Hear ye. Her grand royal highness Princess Celestia is proud to announce this years Grand Galloping gala to be held in Canterlot... yada yada yada.. oh! Cordially extends an invitation to Twilight Sparkle and one guest." Spike frowned slightly at that last part. One guest? What am I, extra? How could they call me a guest instead of by name like Twi? Does it mean I can't go and she has to get someone else? Fine! If Celestia wants to be mean and call me a guest, then I'm not going! He looked and noticed the two mares looking quite happy and excited about the whole thing. All of a sudden he felt that familiar feeling in his chest and he burped up two gold laced tickets to the gala, along with a small note. What's this? Thanks for the apple? Oh, that's what happened to it. Spike looked up and saw the two mares giggling excitedly. They didn't seem to notice that he got the tickets so he spoke up. "Look! Two tickets!" "Wow, that's great! I've never been to the Gala before! Have you Spike?" Spike looked at the parchment and at the word 'guest' and frowned. He then looked at Twilight. "No, and I plan on keeping it that way. I don't want any of that girly frilly fru-fru nonsense." Not that there is any of that at this ball. I know it's just a formal dance with well dressed ponies and stuff...maybe I should go... "Aww, come on Spike. There's none of that there. It's a dance and that would be nice." Spike put a claw to his chin and closed his eyes in thought. She's right, maybe I'm just overreacting to the whole thing. Maybe the guest part was just an accident. Besides, it would be kinda fun to go to a dance....better than staying cooped up in the library anyways. Spike was so lost in thought that he didn't hear Applejack talking about going. "You know what, you're right Twi. It's just a da-" "Whoa!" All of a sudden, Rainbow Dash came down right on top of the two mares. "Whoa, nice landing." Spike said as the two mares coughed up some dust. "Did I just hear you talk about the Grand Galloping Gala?" Rainbow Dash said excitedly. "Rainbow Dash! You told me you were too busy to help me harvest apples. What were ya busy doin'? Spying?" "No, I was busy napping." Spike rolled his eyes and wondered how he didn't even notice her there. "And I just happened to hear that you have an extra ticket?" Spike looked at the upside down mare incredulously. Extra Ticket? There is only two. Geez Rainbow, maybe you're not as awake as you think. "Well, technically, but-" Twilight started before being interrupted. "Yes! This is so awesome! The Wonderbolts perform at the Gala every year..." Spike tuned her out as he was surprised at what Twilight said. Is she thinking of giving my ticket to somepony else? Well, it did say a guest, so it isn't necessarily mine... and I did say I didn't want to, but I've changed my mind! It should be a given that it's going to me. I'd better speak up before they get the wrong idea about the ticket. His mind made, he turned and looked at the two mares arguing who will get the ticket. "Girls! These are my tickets. I'll decide who gets the other one." Twilight said. Spike hesitated when she said that. "Whoever has the best reason to go should be able to have the ticket, don't you think?" Spike gaped at that statement and felt tears starting to well up in his eyes. She's really thinking of taking someone else... Spike quickly wiped his eyes so the others wouldn't see and tried to act normal. Spike then noticed Twilight's stomach rumbling. "Heh, gosh I'm hungry. I don't know about you two, but I can't make important decisions on an empty stomach. So, I'll think about it over lunch and get back to you two." At that, she leaned down by Spike so he could climb on and they both walked away. Now is my chance. I'll just say that I thought about it and considered I'd go for her sake. That way she won't have to worry about choosing. Spike nodded to himself before speaking. "Hey Tw-" Twilight started mumbling. "Ugh, this will be a hard pick. I'm glad its just them two and not anypony else to choose from. I don't think I could choose anyone else." Spike closed his mouth and frowned at that. Maybe my idea isn't such a good one. She might just want to go with a girl and I might just be a waste of a pass. I guess I can just give the pass to one of the others... Spike sighed before speaking up again. "So, any idea who might deserve the ticket more?" Spike said. She turned to look at him. "I don't know Spike, but I really can't think straight when I'm hungry." Spike nodded at that. That's true. You screw up things too whenever you're hungry. All of a sudden, Spike heard a noise and looked around. As soon as he turned to the left, he was greeted by pink before being tackled, along with Twilight, straight to the ground. Ow! What the hay just happened? Spike thought as he rubbed his head. He then jumped after hearing an ear splitting scream next to him. He looked and saw Pinkie running around frantically. "Bats! Bats on my face!" She yelled. Spike noticed the two tickets he had were floating to the ground. Bats? Really Pinkie? Spike resisted the urge to faceclaw at that thought and saw Pinkie stop in front of the tickets. "Wait! These are tickets to the Grand Galloping Gala! That's the most amazing, incredible, super terrific-" Spike tuned Pinkie's ramblings out, knowing that she would probably talk for a while. He merely dusted himself off and picked up the tickets. Even though he tuned the mare out, he couldn't help but hear her start to sing. Wow, now she is starting to sing? I swear this mare is so random. Spike sighed and looked at the tickets. Then he heard a gasp and turned around to see an alabaster mare getting really close to his face. R-Rarity? "Are these what I think they are?" Rarity said wide eyed. "Yes Yes Yes!" Pinkie said hopping up. "Twilight is taking me to the Grand Galloping Gala in Canterlot!" "The Gala? I design ensembles for the Gala every year. But I've never had the opportunity to attend. Oh the society, the culture, the glamor! It's where I truly belong and where I'm destined to meet him!" Spike stared at the beautiful mare in front of him confused. Who? "Him!" Pinkie said happily but then changed to a look of confusion. "Who?" "Him..." Rarity said dreamily, still confusing the group before she continued. "I would stroll through the gala, and everyone would wonder, 'who is that mysterious mare?'. They would never guess that I was a simple pony from Ponyville. Why, I would cause such a sensation, that I would be provided an audience with Princess Celestia herself. And, she would be so taken with my style and elegance, that she would introduce me to him! Her nephew! The most handsome, eligible unicorn stallion in all of Canterlot!" Spike froze at hearing that. What? She likes Blueblood? Who would like that pompous idiot! He is the most annoying and self-centered pony I have ever met! Spike frowned. What about me... "Twilight, I simply cannot believe you invited Pinkie Pie so she could....party, and prevent me from meeting my true love! How could you?" Rarity said dramatically. Spike merely just stared at them, still in his thoughts. True love? But you haven't even met the guy! I'm sure there is somepony better for you out there... or maybe dragon... Spike was pulled out of his thoughts as he felt something tug on the tickets in his hand before snatching them away. "Hey!" Spike yelled as he saw a bunny take off towards a familiar pegasus. "Angel, these are perfect." Fluttershy said happily as she saw the tickets in his mouth. Spike stared at all of them confused. Oh great, now all of them are wanting to go. This is definitely gonna be hard for Twi. Spike thought as he watched the shy mare ask about going as well. Next thing he knew, the other two mares joined the circle and started arguing about who should go. "Quiet!!" Twilight yelled, silencing everypony except Pinkie. "And I said oatmeal? Are you crazy?" Pinkie then noticed all the ponies looking at her. "oh..." she said sheepishly. What in the world was she talking about? I swear I'm never going to be able to understand that pony. Spike thought. "Girls, there's no use in arguing." Twilight said "But Twilight," Rarity complained but was brushed away by Twilight. "No buts! This is my decision and I'm going to make it on my own, and I certainly can't think straight with all this noise!" At that moment her stomach decided to make itself known. "Not to mention hunger. Now go on! Shoo! All of you." The girls merely left, Spike deciding to leave too. "Didn't have to send me away too..." Spike grumbled. "Not you Spike." Twilight said, making Spike turn around with a smile. "Oh, so you ready to go get something to eat?" Spike offered, knowing she must be starving. "Yes, Please!" Twilight said as they both walked to a nearby restaurant. They sat on the outside table. Spike picked up the menu and took a look at it. "Hm, I wonder what they have..." "Ugh, Spike, I don't know what to do! Five of my best friends have good reasons to go to the gala. Oh, who should go with me?" Twilight said as she picked the pedals of a flower on the table, then proceeded to eat them. "Twi don't eat the decor." Spike said watching her. "Have you made your decision?" Said a waiter coming over. "I can't decide!!" Twilight yelled absentmindedly surprising Spike and everyone else around them. "Uh, Twilight? He just wants to take your order." Spike said pointing at the order mats. "Oh.... I would love a daffodil and daisy sandwich." Twilight said. "Do you have any rubies?" Spike asked which earned him a small glare from the waiter. "No?" He sighed. "Okay, i'll have the hay fries. Extra crispy." The waiter merely nodded once before walking away. "What do you think Spike?" Twilight asked. Spike placed the mat down. "I think we should try out another restaurant. I mean I like grass just fine, but would it hurt anybody to offer some gemstones?" "I meant the tickets Spike and who I should take." Twilight said. "Oh..." Might as well act like I don't care. "You're still on that?" "Spike listen! How do I choose? And if I do choose, will the others be mad at me? I mean, I could give up my ticket and that would be two, but there would still be three disappointed ponies." "Have you ever thought of maybe asking Celestia for a ticket for all your friends Twi?" Twilight looked at him incredulously. "Seriously Spike? This isn't a joke!" Spike shrugged. "I wasn't joking." "I can't just ask for more tickets! She might think I'm being greedy." Spike rolled his eyes at that. "I highly doubt that Twi." "You don't know it though Spike. What if-" "Here's your food." The waiter said as he presented the plate to her, as well as the hay fries to Spike. Yes! Finally, some food! Mmm and their extra crispy! Spike thought as he started to devour the food. "Oh thank you. This looks so good! I'm sure things will be much clearer once I've had something to eat." Twilight said as she levitated the sandwich to her mouth. All of a sudden, multiple ponies ran past them towards shelter, confusing them. "Erm, madam? Are you going to eat your food in ze rain?" The waiter asked. "It's not raining...." Twilight said before noticing that it was indeed raining, except not on them. What the? Spike looked up and saw clouds everywhere except for on top of them and the sunlight was shining through. "Whats going on?" Twilight asked looking up. Out of the hole appeared a cyan pegasus with a rainbow mane. "Hi there my best friend I've ever ever had! Enjoying the sunny weather?" "Rainbow Dash what are you doing?" "What do you mean? I just saw the smartest, most generous pony about to get rained on, so I thought I'd just kick a hole in the clouds so she could dine in peace. That's all." Spike rolled his eyes at that. "Rainbow, you're not trying to get extra consideration for the extra ticket by doing me extra special favors, are you?" "Me? No no no of course not!" Rainbow smiled sweetly at her. "U-huh." Twilight said doubtfully. "Seriously, I'd do it for anypony." Spike and Twilight looked around and saw some stray ponies running to get out the rain. So much for anypony.... "Rainbow, I am not comfortable accepting random favors, so I'd appreciate it if you close up that raincloud right now." "Ugh, fine." Rainbow said as she started to close it. "That's better." "Uh, Twi. I don't think that's such a good idea..." Spike pointed out. "Why?" Twilight said as she was about to eat her sandwich, until the rain came down hard on her, soaking her and the sandwich. Spike tried his best to hold in a giggle at her bad choice of words. However, he then noticed the state of his food. "Aww man! My hay fries are all wet! Nice thinking Twi." Spike then noticed Rarity appear next to Twilight Surprising him. When did she get there? "Twilight! It's raining." Spike gave Rarity a deadpan look. No, ya think? I'm sorry but no matter how beautiful you are, that was not a smart statement. "No, really?" Twilight said with a mixture or annoyance and irritation. "Come with me before you catch a cold!" Rarity said before pulling Twilight away and running towards the boutique. Spike merely shrugged as he started over to that direction. He didn't really mind the rain. It just bounced off his scales. He actually enjoyed it. It gave a cool feel on his scales. However he didn't want to waste time today and enjoy it. Might as well catch up to them. I'm sure Rarity is going to try and get the ticket from her. In all honesty, I hope she doesn't get it. Spike made it to the boutique shortly after the mares and went inside. He saw Twilight shake the water off her like a dog, making him chuckle that almost went to laughter at seeing it hit Rarity. No, I cant laugh at her. She might hate me then. Spike took a deep breath to calm down. "And do you know what best friends do?" Rarity said. "No, what?" Twilight asked curiously. "Makeovers!" Rarity said before pushing a clothing screen over and knocking Spike away. "Oof!" Spike landed nearby her couch. When he hit, he accidentally bit his tongue. He got up and dusted himself off before sticking his tongue out and trying to look at it. He saw the blood and frowned. He then looked back over to the screen. Why do they need that? They walk around with no clothes on anyways..." Not too long after, Rarity moved the screen aside, revealing Twilight in very nice looking outfit. Hm, not bad. Spike thought before resuming to look at his tongue and brought a claw to tap the injured spot. However, as he was doing that, Rarity raced over and bumped his hand, sending it into his mouth. "As for you Spike, I have a dandy little outfit for the dashing gent." Spike backed up, not really wanting to be a part of this. "No thanks, I'm fine." "Oh don't be silly darling! You'll love it." Rarity said happily as she levitated the screen over. Spike tried to run but was pulled behind it and had the outfit snatched right on him in a quick second. After a short second, she moved aside the screen so Twilight could look at him. Spike saw himself in the mirror and gaped at himself What is this? I look like one of those goofy ponies I saw in that fairy tale book! This wig is making it worse! Spike noticed Twilight giggling at him. "Oh Spike." Twilight said between her fit. "Now all you need is a hat." Rarity said as she placed one on him. "Blech! I told you I didn't want any part of this girly gala gunk!" At least not this part! "I'll be back at the library if you need me." Spike said before quickly removing the weird outfit and dashing away. When he got outside, he saw Applejack walking over with a basket full of sweets. and his mouth watered slightly. "Hey Applejack! What ya doing with all that food? You mind sharing?" Spike was still a little hungry himself and seeing those treats enhanced it. "Hey Spike and sure! Here ya go!" Applejack said as she gave him a few apple fritters. "Gee thanks!" Spike said as he started to wolf down the treats. "Say Spike, have ya seen Twilight?" Applejack asked. "She iph at the bouptique wiph Rariphy." Spike said as he kept eating the treats. "Why thank ya kindly Spike." Applejack said as she walked away. After eating the tasty treats, Spike made his way back to the library. As soon as he got there, he heard noise inside. "Did somepony come in while we were gone?" Spike said as he walked in, only to see animals... cleaning? "What the hay?" Spike said as he looked at all the animals. He then stopped when he noticed a familiar pegasus dusting a book. "Fluttershy?" Fluttershy jumped slightly at the male voice but noticed it was Spike and smiled. "Oh, hello Spike. Where's Twilight?" "She's at the boutique with Rarity but should be heading back soon. Why are you here cleaning?" "Oh, we're just doing a little spring cleaning for our good friends." "But its..." Spike paused, but shook his head. "never mind. Have fun. Oh and you missed a spot." Spike said, pointing. "Oh, thank you Spike." Fluttershy said as she cleaned it. Spike merely shrugged and headed upstairs. He wasn't going to complain if she wanted to clean for Twilight. Now I can go take a nap. All this ticket nonsense is tiring me out.... even though I'm not really the center of the attention. Spike merely went upstairs and laid in his basket. He closed his eyes and tried to get a quick nap in. However, that didn't happen as he heard a loud yell. "Pinkie!" Spike jumped form his basket at the yell and ran over to the window. He saw lots of ponies surrounding Twilight. "The grand Galloping Gala!?" The all said shocked. Oh great... Spike dashed outside and ran through the crowd to her. He got to her and pulled her away from the crowding mares. They started to get chased around town by all the mares wanting to go to the gala. Geez, these mares are crazy! Twi was right. After running away from the mob of mares for most of the day, Spike and Twilight made a wrong turn and ended up in an alley. So this is how it ends? Being attacked by mares over a ticket? Spike thought over dramatically. He then noticed Twilight's horn start to glow and next thing he knew, he was being transported through time and space before appearing in the library, slightly charred. "Warn me next time you are going to do that!" Spike said as he tried to dust the strange dust off his body. It didn't hurt but if he let the stuff stay on to long, it takes forever to scrub off. "I didn't even know it was going to happen. Quick! Lock the doors and windows!" Spike then proceeded to do just that, making sure anything giving access to the outside world was locked securely. They then turned all the lights off so that nopony would think they are home. After they finished, they gave a sigh of relief. However, that didn't last long before one light came on, revealing 5 mares staring at her intently. Dude, that's creepy! When did they even get in here? "AAAH! I can't Decide! I just can't! I know its important to all of you and I just can stand to disappoint any of you and giving me gifts and doing me favors won't make any difference! Because you're all my friends and I want to make you all happy but I just cant!" Spike frowned at this before glaring slightly at the mares. "Can't you all see what you're doing to her? She's getting stressed out over these dumb tickets and trying to choose! Not to mention all the commotion you all are making around her." All the mares frowned at this before Applejack walked over to her. "Twilight. Ah didn't mean to put so much pressure on ya. And, if it helps, ah don't want the ticket anymore. You can give it to somepony else. Ah won't feel bad, ah promise." "Me too. I feel just awful that I made you feel awful." Fluttershy said. "And me too. Its no fun upsetting your friends." Pinkie said. "Twilight, it was unfair of me to try to force you like I did." Rarity said. Spike smiled at their words before the last pegasus spoke up. "Yes! That means the ticket is mine! hah, I got the ticket, I got the ticket." Rainbow Dash cheered. Spike merely stared at her in annoyance, as well as all the other mares in the library. Dash noticed. "Uh, ya know, I haven't perfected my moves for the Wonderbolts anyways. I don't need that ticket either." "We all got so gung-ho about going to the gala, that we couldn't see how ungung-ho we were making you." Applejack pointed out. "We're sorry Twilight." They all said and Spike noticed Twilight seemed to cheer up at that. "Spike, take down a note." Spike perked up at that and shot a plume of fire out, making a quill and parchment appear. "Ready." "Dear Princess Celestia: I've learned that one of the joys of friendship is sharing your blessings. But, if there is not enough blessings to go around, having to choose between your friends can make you feel really awful. So, while I appreciate the invitation, I will be returning both tickets to the Grand Galloping Gala." "What?!" The mares all said in unison. "If my friends can't all go, I don't want to go either." Twilight said. "Twilight, ya don't have ta do that." Applejack protested. "Nope. I've made up my mind. Spike, you can send the letter." Spike merely nodded before walking toward a window away from them. Well, I guess this is for the best. I still think she should have asked for more... Spike thought as he sent the letter away via flame. He turned towards the girls as they all cuddled up to each other happy about Twilight's decision. He made a gagging notion before he felt the familiar sensation in his stomach but bigger than just the usual parchment. The mares noticed this and frowned at the display. "Well wallop my withers Spike. Ain't that just like a boy? Cant handle the least bit of sentiment." Applejack said walking over to him. Just then, Spike made a large burp, sending him away and the flame towards Applejack. "Whoa nelly!" Applejack said as she dodged just in time. Spike landed on his back but got up quickly and saw what she sent. "A letter from the princess? That was fast." Twilight said. Spike grabbed it, opened it, and started reading. "My faithful student Twilight. Why didn't you just say so in the first place?" After he finished, he unrolled the rest of the parchment and saw six tickets. "Look! Six tickets to the Grand Galloping Gala!" They all gasped. "Now we can all go!" Twilight cheered, the others joining in as well. "I told you so Twi." Spike said with a smirk. "Yes you did Spike. You were compl-" Twilight was cut off when her stomach started rumbling madly." "Hehe, guess I still haven't gotten the chance to eat..." Twilight said sheepishly. "Allow us to treat you Twilight." Rarity offered. "Yeah! It'd be a great way to apologize." Rainbow Dash agreed as they all headed out the door, grabbing a ticket from Spike as they left. Spike then realized something. Wait, there was only six tickets... All of them are going to go except me.... Spike sighed. "How come I don't get a ticket to the gala?" Then Spike felt that familiar feeling in his gut again before burping out another scroll. Curious, He opened it and read a few words. "And one for you Spike." He also noticed a small note in the corner. I'm very sorry about forgetting you Spike. I honestly don't know how I could have forgotten. As compensation, on your next visit, I'll have a surprise for you. Love Mom. Spike saw another ticket and he lit up. "A ticket! Yippee! I knew Celestia wouldn't forget about me!" Spike cheered as he jumped up and down, but then thought curiously about the second part. I wonder what the surprise is.... Maybe its gems! Oooh, I can't wait to visit her now! Spike giggled happily as he rushed out the door with a goofy smile on his face only to meet Applejack staring at him with a smug smile. "Uh, I mean, gross! I have to go too?" Spike said in mock irritation as he walked past her. Applejack didn't buy it. "Hey Spike? Sorry about earlier." Spike turned to her confused. "About what?" "What ah said earlier? About ya not handling a bit of sentiment. Didn't know ya was about ta spit out a letter." Spike smiled. "Its fine AJ....but, If ya wanna make it up to me, you could let me get a few more of those apple fritters! Oh, and don't tell the others about what just happened." Applejack giggled lightly. "Ya got yerself a deal little buddy." The two smiled at each other before quickly rushing ahead to catch up with their friends. > Episode 4: Scaly Honesty > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Here ya go Spike! One strawberry muffin with ruby sprinkles!" Pinkie said as she gave said treat to the dragon. "Thanks! This is gonna taste so good!" Spike said happily as he gave the bits to Pinkie. Spike was at Sugarcube Corner after getting some time off from helping Twilight. She had to go speak to Rarity about something so he merely went to go get a snack with some of the bits he had. "If you like this, then you will love the new muffins that me and the Cakes will be making next week!" Pinkie said hopping up and down. "New Muffins? What kind?" Spike asked curiously. Maybe they might be making more kinds of gem muffins? That would be great! "Sorry Spike! It's a secret! But, Don't worry, there will be free samples coming out when we make them!" "Awesome! I can't wait!" Spike said as he chewed on his treat. "If they are half as good as these, then I'll be happy to try some!" "Don't worry, they'll be...wait do you hear that?" Spike stopped chewing/crunching on his treat. "Hear what?" "That noise...it's coming from outside! Lets go see!" Pinkie said excitedly as she ran out the door. Spike scratched his head confused but shrugged as he popped the treat in his mouth and left the store to see what's up. As soon as he left the place, he heard exactly what Pinkie was talking about. There was a small rumbling that seemed to get louder, like it was coming closer. Spike noticed Dash a little ways away take flight to see what's up. I wonder what's up? Maybe a circus is coming to town or something? Spike noticed Rainbow's eyes grow wide before she spoke. "Stampede!" At hearing that, everyone turned and Spike was finally able to see what was coming. A large group of cows were running straight towards town with no intent on stopping for anypony. Spike's eyes grew wide. Oh snap! I better find somewhere to hide! Before Spike took a step though, he noticed the others panicking and running in random directions. He also noticed Pinkie.....vibrating? "HHHHHeeeeeeyyyyy! TTThhhhiiisssss mmmmmaaaaaaakkkkeeeeesssss mmmmmmmyyyyyyyyy vvvvvvoooooiiiiiccccceeeee sssssooooooouuuuunnnddddddd ssssiiiiillllllyyyyyy!" Spike faceclawed at that. Wow, Pinkie. Really? Spike also noticed Rarity and Twilight running around. "Pinkie! Are you crazy? Run!" Twilight said panicking. Spike watched as the ponies in the streets just ran in random directions. Why doesn't anypony just hide? Flipping out and running in circles won't make you safe. He then noticed the mayor speaking. "Everypony, please calm down. No need to panic." Finally, somepony with a sense of calm around here. Spike thought before he decided to find a place that's not in the open and hide. He saw an alley and went towards it. When he got inside, he looked out towards the direction of the stampede and saw a familiar pony with a dog running beside her. Applejack? What is she doing? She might get trampled!" Spike panicked slightly at that thought, until he saw what started to happen. "Yeehaw! Other side Winona!" Spike watched as the daring duo got on both sides of the stampede. They then started to gather them up and move them around. Wow! How is she doing that? I'd be afraid of tripping and getting trampled. Spike thought as he watched her gather them up and throw a rope on the cow in the front. She then lead the group away from the town in the nick of time. Wow, Applejack is awesome! Her and Winona just saved the town from getting damaged and made it look so easy. Spike walked out of his hiding spot and saw all the other ponies cheer for her as she ran off in the direction of Sweet Apple Acres. "Mah sis is just the coolest!" Spike turned and saw a yellow filly with a red mane and tail. She had a bow in her hair and was smiling wide. She also had the same accent as Applejack. That's Applejack's sister. What was her name? I've never really talked to her after the reunion.... "I think tho too!" Said a mare next to her. This mare had a light scarlet coat and bright red mane. She also had blue-violet glasses on and was smiling as well. "We must do something to thank Applejack for single-hoofedly saving the town." The mayor said. "Technically, she had help from Win-" Spike started but was interrupted by Pinkie. "Ooh! I know! A party!" Pinkie said excitedly. I figured she would say that. Spike thought. However, he wasn't opposed to the idea at all. He really enjoyed Pinkies parties. "That's an excellent idea! We should throw a party for her and celebrate! Also present her an award for always helping Ponyville out!" The mayor said happily. "That sounds great! But lets not forget Winona too." Spike chimed in. However, the others paid him no mind. "I'll get started on the treats for the party!" Pinkie chirped before dashing away. "I'll get started on the designs. I'll make sure they are the best you've all seen." Rarity said happily as she walked away. Twilight turned to Spike. "Spike, did you say something earlier? I didn't catch it." Of course you didn't... Spike frowned at that thought but decided to ignore that fact for now. "It wasn't important. So, anything I can do to help?" Twilight smiled before giving him some tasks to help make this a very good party. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spike was sitting back on some hay relaxing after doing the setup for the party. They decided to plan the party for the weekend, and, once it came, they became quite busy. Spike was the busiest since he decided to do what he does best: help everypony. He started at Rarity's. All of the decorations and such were being made by her and Spike helped just like he would do the dresses and such that he helped at one time before. Rarity sure does go all out whenever her best friends are involved. I'm sure Applejack will like these. After finishing there, he headed towards Sugarcube corner. It turns out that the Cakes had a last minute request, so they were getting ready to be leaving soon. Since they had to get the large order for their customer ready, that left the oven occupied. So Pinkie asked to use Spike's fire to heat up her treats. She said it tastes better after he uses his fire too since the last time he sneezed and roasted some cupcakes. I still can't believe she ate those after I sneezed on them. Plus she said they tasted better. I'll probably try using my fire to cook things from now on to see if that's actually true. After that exhausting bout of fire usage, he merely went out and set up the decorations and finally finished around noon. They started preparing early. Spike was merely waiting for the okay to go and get Applejack, which was also his job. He didn't mind though. I hope she enjoys the party we made her. She really deserves it for all the things I heard she does around here. I'm still surprised about hearing her single-hoofedly stopping a lone Timberwolf from terrorizing the town. I heard those things are vicious. Spike noticed Twilight walking over to him. "Spike, we're ready for you to go get Applejack now." Spike saluted. "Yes ma'am! I'll be right back!" Spike saw Twilight smile and roll her eyes playfully before he turned and headed towards Sweet Apple Acres. He made it there rather quickly since he was excited himself about the party. He also had something for Winona, since the others seemed to forget that she helped. He went to the barn where he heard she usually is and opened it slightly. Sure enough, Winona perked up when she heard the door open and, seeing the dragon, rushed over to him and gave him three sloppy licks. "H-Hey haha cut that out!" Spike chuckled at the dog's antics. "I got somethin for ya. It's a thanks for saving the town with Applejack. It's not much but I hope you like it." Spike showed her his gift. I was merely a chew toy bone but more sturdy and will last quite long. Winona barked happily before biting the chew toy and playing with it. Spike smiled at that. "I guess you like it." Winona ran back to him and started to lick him furiously, eliciting laughter from the drake. "Haha, okay, you like it, I get it." Winona stopped her assault and went to grab the toy. "So, I also have something for you to deliver to Applejack." Spike pulled out an invitation in a pink letter. Winona sniffed it before barking and taking it. She then left. "Alright. Time to head back then." Spike said as he turned and left. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spike was waiting with the others. They decided to start the ceremony believing that she will be here on time. Twilight was the first on stage. She had a stack of cards with her and Spike groaned. Oh great. This might take a while. "Welcome everypony! Today we are here to honor a pony we can always count on to help in matters great and small." Spike faceclawed as he saw her move on to the next card. Someone please end this before it begins... Spike thought. Fortunately, that actually happened. Rainbow Dash slammed her hoof on the podium, startling Twilight and sending the cards flying. "Did you see Applejack's slick moves out there? What an athlete! This week, she going to help me with a new flying trick. I know its going to be so awesome!" Dash said excitedly. I can't wait to see that. Spike thought as he saw Twilight move Dash. As soon as she started to talk again, another mare interrupted once more. "This week, I get to run Sugarcube Corner for the first time." Pinkie said with a subtle smile while interrupting Twilight. Spike raised a brow at the random statement but Twilight spoke up first. "And what does that have to do with Applejack?" Pinkie merely blinked for a moment before seeming to understand what was being asked. "Oh! Applejack, one of the best bakers ever, is gonna help me. Applejack makes everything great so free samples for everypony!" Everyone cheered at that. "I cant wait to try them!" Spike said excitedly. He noticed Twilight get interrupted once more but not so abruptly like the others. It seemed Fluttershy had something to add as well. I'm surprised she is confident enough to speak in front of all these ponies. "I just wanted to mention that Applejack is also helping me this week with the official bunny census. It's where we count up all the new baby bunnies that were born this season. She's going to help gather them using her wonderful herding skills." She helps everypony a lot. Just like me. Spike thought. He then saw Twilight staring down Fluttershy before speaking up. "Anyone else? Anyone?" The crowd got silent. Spike noticed everyone seemed to avoid eye contact with her seeing how her expression was. "Well, then as I was trying to say...." Twilight stopped when she saw the mayor standing there with a large smile on her face. "Ugh! Never mind!" Twilight said angrily and stomped off the stage. She must have really wanted to say her speech. I hope she isn't that mad. "Ahem, and so, without further ado, I am privileged to present the prized pony of Ponyville award to our beloved guest of honor. A pony with the utmost trustworthiness, reliability, and Integrity; Ponyville's most capable and dependable friend, Applejack!" Everyone cheered as the curtains opened. Spike joined in with it. "Yeah Applejack! Way to go that was awesome! I mean..." Spike then noticed that everyone was quiet and staring at him. "What?" He then looked ahead and saw that Applejack wasn't there. "Oh..." Spike blushed slightly as there was an uncomfortable silence wondering where Applejack was. "Awkward...." Spike said in a low voice at the situation. As soon as he said that, someone spoke up. "Ah'm here! Ah'm here...." A voice said drowsily. Spike turned and saw Applejack with two baskets of apples on her as she made her way clumsily towards the stage. Is she alright? She seems... out of it. When she walked up to the stage, she proceeded toward the podium where the mayor was. "Miss Mayor, thank ya kindly fer this here uh...award....thingy. *yawn* Its so bright and shiny and...heh. Ah sure do look funny. Woooo wooo." Spike merely blinked at that action before he saw Pinkie join in. "Wooo! Woooo! hehe!" Pinkie and Applejack said as they proceeded to move forward and back repeatedly with their heads at the trophy. Yup, something is definitely wrong with Applejack right now. Pinkie is acting normal, but for Applejack to pull a Pinkie, there is seriously something up. Spike thought as he watched Twilight walk up there. "Okay...well thank you Applejack for saving us from that scary stampede, and always being there for everypony.." Twilight said. "*yawn* Yeah I like helping the pony folks and *yawn* and stuff...*snore*" All of a sudden, Applejack fell asleep....while standing. ......How is she doing that? Wait, Why did she fall asleep? However, just as fast, she woke up shaking her head rapidly. "Huh? Oh! uh, yeah. Thanks!" Applejack said before she bit down on the handle and started to pull the trophy away. Everyone merely stared until they couldn't see her any more. Twilight spoke up. "Was it me, or did Applejack seem a little-" "Tired?" Rainbow said. "Dizzy?" Said Fluttershy. "Messy?" Said Rarity, getting looks from the others. "What? Did you see her mane?" "She seemed fine to me! Wooo! Woooo!" Pinkie said sounding like a fire horn. Of course you would think that Pinkie....wait, if Applejack's gone.... "Wait, since she left, does that mean we made this party for nothing?" Spike said aloud. Everyone went silent for a moment til it dawned on them. "Oh no! A cancelled party? Unacceptable! We must find something else to enjoy this party for!" Pinkie said frantically. "How are we going to do that when the banner says 'Thank you Applejack'?" Rarity pointed out. "I guess we can still have the party and bring some treats to her. It seemed like she was kinda busy judging from the apples she was carrying." Rainbow pointed out. "I told you we should have asked if she was doing anything first before we threw it." Spike said. "But then it wouldn't be a surprise thank you party." Pinkie said. "It cant be a surprise if you gave her an invitation Pinkie." Spike said bemused. "Details, details." Pinkie said waving it off. Spike sighed. "Well, if ya want, I can deliver her a slice of cake." Spike offered. "Oh, thank you Spike. That would be very generous of you." Fluttershy said. Twilight used her magic and made a pack of sweets from the table nearby and gave it to Spike. "I'm sure she will enjoy this if she is busy. Come back after you're done okay Spike?" Spike took the bag and nodded. "Sure thing." I also want to find out what was wrong with her. He thought as he proceeded along the path towards Sweet Apple Acres. Spike decided to think of some possible answers while walking. Maybe she's sick? Nah, she would have looked it. She looked tired, but not all sickly...maybe she just had a bad night's sleep. That would make sense. If that's true, Then these treats will bring her spirits up! Spike looked up and noticed he was approaching the barn. He immediately went to the front door and knocked. He waited patiently for an answer but it wasn't long before the door opened, revealing a burly red stallion with his barrel wrapped. "Heya Big Mac! What happened to you?" Spike said looking at the injury. "Injured workin'." Big Mac said simply. Spike shook his head. "I figured it was something like that. So, Applejack around?" "Eeyup. She's over in the fields workin'." "Oh alright then. I had a feeling she would be working as usual. Say, did she not have a good rest last night or something? She seemed tired when I saw her earlier." Big Mac had a look of realization before he sighed. "Applejack is intent on harvesting the entire apple orchard on her own and ah'm guessin' hasn't slept much since." Spike looked over towards the vast amounts of apple trees and shuddered at the amount he saw. There is no way she can do all of that without sleeping. She'll pass out. Spike looked back at Big Mac. "I'm going to go talk to her then. See ya later Big Mac." Big Mac merely nodded as Spike turned and left towards the orchards in search for the farm mare. He decided he would search where the picked trees end and unpicked begins. Sure enough, Spike saw her in the distance. However, as he got closer, behind a tree, stood Twilight as she turned and left in a huff. What the? You send me to give her treats but you beat me here? Spike thought incredulously. Spike walked towards Twilight, ready to give her a piece of his mind, until there was a bright flash and she was gone. Don't you teleport from me! I know where you live! As Spike was about to head back, he stopped and remembered he still had the treats in his claws. I guess I can still give her these... Spike turned back around and walked over to Applejack. As he got close, he saw Applejack nodding off to sleep. Wow, she really must be tired. Spike walked up to her and tapped her. "Uh, Applejack?" Applejack startled awake and shook her head rapidly. "Huh? Wha?" She looked over and saw Spike looking at her concerned. "Oh, Howdy there Spike. *yawn* Ya lookin fer Twi? Cuz she just left." "Not really. I just came by to drop these treats off since you left your party pretty early." "Oh, well thanks sugarcube. Sorry ah couldn't stay long but ah have lots of work ta do." Applejack said as she took the treats and snacked on one lazily. She did however perk up a little bit after eating one. "Whew does Pinkie know how to make a cupcake or what?" Applejack said smiling after her first treat. Spike smiled at that but then turned to a frown after noticing the apples again. "So, you're out here on your own doing this?" Applejack placed the rest of the treats down and got ready to start working again when he said that. "Sure am! Ah'm gonna get this entire orchard done before Applebuck season is over." "Do you need any help? I'll be happy to take some of the work off your shoulders." Spike offered. "Ah appreciate the gesture Spike but ah plan on doing this on mah own." "But there is so much and I can already tell you're exhausted." "Ah'm fine! Not tired in the slightest." Applejack protested as she tried to kick a tree but ended up toppling over a basket. For the Element of Honesty, you sure are bad at lying... Spike thought. He then decided to pick up the apples she spilled. Applejack frowned at this. "Ah told ya ah don't need any help. Ya don't have ta do that Spike." Spike looked at her and frowned himself. "I don't have to but I will. You are my friend AJ, and no matter how short we've known each other, if I see you struggling, I'm gonna help." Applejack still held strong. "But ah don't need-" "Tell you what Applejack, I've already heard that you made a wager that you will finish this before Applebuck season is over with Big Mac. Seeing how you are one to stick by those kinds of bets, how about I only help with taking the barrels of apples back to the farm and you do the rest? That way you will still be able to hold your wager and at the same time I can help out a bit." Applejack hesitated. "Well, technically that is true....but why ya wanna help so bad anyways?" Spike frowned at her. "I already told you; you're my friend and I help my friends out." Applejack paused for a moment and looked around, seeing baskets scattered around trees. She really wanted to prove she could do this alone but if Spike stuck with what he said he'd do, she'd still be basically doing it herself without taking too many trips. She also didn't seem to have the energy to argue much either. She sighed before turning towards Spike again. "Yer one persistent little fella aren't ya?" "With my friends, always." Spike said with a smile. Applejack shook her head and smiled slightly. "Alright fine but only to take some baskets back. Ah still will be helpin out with that too." Spike nodded. "Alright...oh and one more thing?" Applejack raised an eyebrow tiredly.. "And what's that?" "Try to get some rest in between or sleep at night please?" he urged. Applejack sighed. "Ah'll try but ah won't make any promises." Spike smiled at that. It's the best I can do but at least she won't be too tired now. They then set off to work. Applejack bucked apples and Spike took the baskets and put the apples by the barn, and returned the baskets to other trees that weren't harvested yet. Spike also had to watch Applejack. She was swaying a lot and missing the trees altogether sometimes. She even fell asleep A few times and he had to wake her. Even though he was helping relieve some of the load off her, she was still tired right now and that worried him. He didn't want her walking into a stray branch or have apples fall on her head. This isn't going to work if she is this tired right now. I need to at least convince her to take a quick nap. Spike nodded to himself before walking over to her. She nodded off again and he sighed. "Applejack!" She was startled awake and saw him. "Heh, sorry about that." Spike shook his head. "Applejack you need to take a break. This is your fourth time dozing off." Applejack shook her head. "No can do Spike. The harvest ends the day after tomorrow and ah need all the time ah can get in order to finish up here." Spike sighed. "I wish you could at least ask some friends to help you out, Like Twilight, Rainbow, and Fluttershy. I know they would be happy to-" Spike was cut off by a wide eyed Applejack. "Oh no! Rainbow! She needs mah help with a trick today! Sorry Spike but ah gotta go!" Applejack then turned and galloped away towards the town. "Wait! At least ask if she can help you out afterwards!" Spike called out to her, however, she didn't respond. Spike sighed and sat down. What am I gonna do about this? What can I really do? Helping her can only go so far and I doubt even us two can get all this done in two days. Maybe I can ask the others about helping. I'm sure they will be willing to help since she helps them alot. Spike made up his mind and decided to head to each of her close friends. He started with Rarity. I'm sure she will be more than happy to help. She is the element of generosity after all...and one of the most gorgeous ponies I've ever seen... Spike smiled lazily at that thought as he headed towards town. It wasn't long before he made it towards town and even less for him to make it up to the boutique's door. He smiled before walking inside, the sound of the overhead bell ringing in his ear fins. "Coming~!" Rarity said in a sing-song voice before she appeared from around the corner. "Spikey! Hello dear, what brings you here?" Spike repressed the urge to fawn over the stunning mare in front of him. He came here for a reason. He straightened up and spoke. "I actually came over to talk about Applejack." Rarity raised a brow in curiosity. "Oh, did she decide to get her mane fixed from what it was earlier?" Spike shook his head. "No, she's actually working in the orchard and her mane ended up that way I guess. Anyways, that's not what I came here for. I came to see if you could possibly try to help her with her harvest. She's really tired from doing it all by herself since Big Mac injured himself and needs help." Rarity recoiled slightly. "Me? Help in fetching apples? But I could get sweaty and dirty out there! And besides, I have quite the amount of work scheduled for myself this evening. I simply can't help her and do my orders as well." Spike sighed at that. He did understand that the others might have their own things to take care of, and Rarity being hesitant about sweat and dirt. "I understand Rarity." Rarity bit her lip in thought. "Have you perhaps asked the others? Surely they might have time to assist Applejack." Spike shook his head. "Not yet but I'm sure some of them might help her out. I'll see you later Rarity." Rarity smiled a small smile. "Take care Spikey." Spike then left the boutique. Its fine. There's still others. I'm sure they will have time to help out. Next lets go to Pinkie's since she is the closest...wait, isn't she too busy with managing the store with the Cakes gone? Aww geez there goes another helper and I'm sure she would have helped. Guess I'll go to Fluttershy's then. She's kind so I'm sure she will help out somehow. At that thought he then started to head out towards Fluttershy's cottage. Spike found out from Twilight that Fluttershy lived in a small cottage outside the the town near the Everfree. I don't understand why Fluttershy lives nearby there. From what I heard, the Everfree is really dangerous and scary and Fluttershy isn't the bravest pony by a longshot. Maybe she's trying to test herself or something...ah there it is. Spike saw the Cottage coming into view over a small hill, across a bridge. However, he froze once he came completely over the hill. The Cottage itself looked warm and inviting even from a distance. The peaceful sound of the stream of water running below the bridge, mixed with the birds chirping beautifully in the trees and nearby the house made Spike completely at ease and relaxed. Whoa, I'm definitely visiting here more often. Its beautiful. Spike thought as he admired it all. However he had something he had to do so he began walking again and crossed the bridge towards Fluttershy's house. Once he got to the door, he lifted a claw, ready to knock, but stopped when he noticed some animals staring at him: two brown squirrels and three birds, one a dark grey and the other two a sky blue. Spike retracted his claw and spoke up. "Oh, hey there. Is Fluttershy home?" Spike asked sheepishly to them. The animals merely pointed to their right signaling behind the house. Spike smiled. "Thanks guys!" Spike said as he followed the direction they pointed. She wasn't behind her house but he did hear a faint noise nearby. Maybe that's her. Spike thought as he followed the direction of the noise. As Spike got closer, the sound became more clear. Wow, it sounds pretty nice.. I wonder what.... Spike's thoughts were put to a halt immediately once he came close enough to the noise. He saw the pegasus he was looking for, but what he saw stunned him. Fluttershy was merely sitting in a small clearing singing. There were birds chirping beautifully and a small bunny cuddled close to her as she sung. The sun also was shining on her, making it look like she was in a nature's spotlight. Spike was in awe. Wow...I never knew Fluttershy had such an amazing voice. I guess there's more to her than I thought... Spike thought as he watched her. He didn't want to interrupt her for two reasons: One was he liked her singing and two he felt relaxed there; peaceful kind of, like there wasn't a care in the world and he really liked that feeling. So, he merely leaned against a tree and listened intently, getting lost in her voiceless tune. Spike had no idea how long he was listening and he really didn't care at the moment. Over time he got the hang of the tune she was singing. He then started to hum along with her, however, as soon as he did, Fluttershy stopped and whipped around with wide eyes surprising Spike. "S-Spike? Oh, goodness you scared me." Fluttershy said as she held a hoof to her barrel. Spike rubbed his neck sheepishly. "Sorry about that Fluttershy. I came over and when I heard your singing, I couldn't help but listen. Your singing is beautiful." Fluttershy noticeably blushed at that and shyly hid behind her mane slightly. "Oh, t-thank you Spike." "No thanks necessary Fluttershy." Spike said with a smile. After saying that there was a moment of silence. Fluttershy shuffled slightly before coming from behind her mane and speaking up. "So, if you don't mind me asking, what brings you here?" Spike semi forgot that he had a reason for coming. "Oh! Right. Actually I came to ask if you were busy right now." Fluttershy shook her head but then her eyes grew wide before she nodded. "Oh I almost forgot! I'm helping Carrot Top with the carrots that we will have to give the bunnies for the bunny census tomorrow." Spike frowned slightly at that. He did remember her talking about that at the party. "Oh..." He sighed, "alright then." Fluttershy frowned sympathetically. "Was there something on your mind?" "Well, Applejack is working herself ragged bucking apples for the harvest and has no help...well...more like not accepting anypony's help. I was hoping one of you could help or convince her to get some." Spike said summarizing the situation. "Applejack is like that sometimes. Whenever she says she is going to do something, It's very hard to convince her otherwise... But she still is a great friend!" Fluttershy said that last part quickly. "So she's stubborn?" Spike said bluntly. Fluttershy hid behind her mane and nodded slightly, seemingly embarrassed about admitting that. Spike sighed. "So there might be no way of convincing her?" "Well, you could, but it will be very hard to...she might have to realize first that she actually needs help." Fluttershy surmised. Spike nodded. "I wonder how I can do that." "Um, Spike?" Spike looked up to her. "Yes?" "Sorry to pry, but why are you doing this?" He smiled. "Well, to help a friend of course. I remember how she looked at the party and I was curious what's up. I might not be her best friend like you girls are but I cherish all my friends." Fluttershy smiled warmly at him. "Aww, that is very sweet of you Spike. I didn't know you were such a caring dragon." Spike blushed faintly and rubbed his neck. "Yeah, sometimes." Fluttershy giggled slightly at that. Spike calmed down before he looked up and noticed the sun late in the evening. "Well, I should probably head out to see if I can find more help." Fluttershy smiled. "Okay. Sorry I can't help at the moment. I hope you do find somepony to help out." "Thanks Shy. I'll see you later!" Spike said as he walked off back towards town. Spike was deep in thought about who he should ask next about helping Applejack. I'm pretty sure Applejack is with Pinkie right now helping her. I highly doubt she asked Rainbow to help so I guess I can see if she will. Spike thought as he began his trip to her house. However, it was cut short when he heard a voice. "Spike! There you are! I've been looking all over for you!" Twilight said as she walked over to him. Spike noticed a worried tone on her. "Hey Twilight. Whats going on? You look worried." "There's been a problem and we need to go see what's going on." Twilight said as she turned. "Hop on." Spike did as he was told and got on before she turned and galloped toward where sugarcube corner is. "Why are we going to Sugarcube corner?" Spike asked as he saw them getting close. However, he didn't need her reply because as soon as he said that, they saw the store with yellow tape on it and a large curtain nearby. There were some nurses running in and around it with all kinds of medical equipment. As Twilight got near the curtain, Spike hopped off and got near her. Redheart noticed them and opened the curtain. Twilight spoke up. "We came as soon as we heard." Spike had no idea what was going on, but found out immediately after he saw the ponies inside. They all looked very sick. Their faces showed a tint of green and there was painful moaning coming from almost each one. He cringed slightly at seeing Pinkie throw her head into a bucket and make crude noises. "Geez. what happened to everypony?" "There was a mishap with the baked goods." Redheart said. "Not baked goods...baked bads. Ugh" Pinkie said holding her stomach. Spike noticed that the food in question was sitting on a nearby table. He picked one up and examined it. "Aren't these the treats Pinkie and Applejack were going to make? I wonder how it tastes." Throwing all caution to the wind, Spike took a bite and chewed it before swallowing. His eyes grew wide before he quickly threw the rest of the treat in his mouth and chewed happily. Wow, these are delicious! A little on the sour side but still really good! How did they all get sick off of these? As Spike was enjoying a few more, Twilight walked up to him. "Spike, I need you to stay here and help try to make them feel better. I need to go talk to a certain cowpony that made all this happen." Spike nodded as he chewed. Twilight noticed he was eating something. "Spike, what are you eating?" "Its the muffins they made. They're delicious! Want one?" Spike said as he offered her one. Twilight recoiled in disgust. "Eww Spike! Don't eat those! Those are what made everypony sick!" Spike shrugged. "Taste fine to me." Spike said before eating the last one. Twilight continued to look at him in disgust but it was replaced with confusion. "Wait, you don't feel sick?" Spike shook his head. "Not at all." Twilight pondered that for a moment. "Interesting. From what Pinkie told me what was in it, It should make anypony sick. I wonder if you're just more immune to being sick..." Twilight shook her head to get rid of the thoughts and get back to the matter at hoof. "Anyways, stay here and help out. I'll be back." Spike merely watched as she trotted away. He then turned to the group of sick ponies. Alright then, lets see if what I did to help Twilight when she was sick will still work here. I just hope they have the stuff for me. With that thought, he walked over to Nurse Redheart. "Hey nurse. I think I know a way that might help them out." Redheart turned to him. "Really? That would be great. Do you need anything?" Spike nodded. "Yeah. I need a warm bowl of chowder soup for each pony. Most should be kinda hungry by now seeing that they probably got rid of the food in their stomachs." "But most of them wont be able to hold it down. How will we be able to feed it to them without them expelling it out again?" She asked curiously "There is a specific kind of leaf that if soaked in some soup and served, It will make ponies be able to swallow it without wanting to hurl. They're called Berry leaves. Do you perhaps have some?" Redheart thought for a moment. "I've never heard of a treatment like that before." "It was something I made up that actually worked whenever Twilight was sick." Redheart nodded. "Alright then. We will make some for everypony. It shouldn't take long." Spike nodded before walking over to look at all the ponies. He noticed that Pinkie seemed in the worst condition. Spike figured that the sweet devourer probably ate more than the others and got worse. He walked toward her and sat near her. "Hey Pinkie. Is it really bad?" Pinkie held back from expelling more of the treat and nodded. "Uh-huh." Spike lifted a claw and reached for her stomach. He then started to knead her stomach. The action surprised Pinkie, however, she started to relax and a small smile appeared on her face. "Ooooh that feels good Spike." Spike smiled as he continued to massage her stomach with his claws. He noticed her left hind leg kicking slightly and chuckled. Twilight used to do that too. I wonder if its just a pony thing? As Spike thought that, a bowl of hot soup was laid next to him. He was slightly surprised. Well that was fast. He then took the bowl and lifted the spoon with the cream colored liquid. He gave it two blows like he always did and moved it towards Pinkie. "Here Pinkie. Drink this. It'll help you feel better." Pinkie looked at the spoon for merely a second before opening her mouth and taking the spoon. She swallowed and smiled at him. "Tastes good Spike." Spike smiled before dipping the spoon in again to feed his friend. Spike collapsed on the couch at the library. After feeding Pinkie and getting an affectionate nuzzle from her, he asked how this all happened. She told him that Applejack messed up on the ingredients. Spike knew why though: she was too tired. Spike told Pinkie that and, after hearing that, she promised she would help out tomorrow when she feels better. Spike was at least glad that Applejack would be getting help tomorrow and after helping some other patients, it got late and he headed home. He figured Applejack would be taking it easy at this point so she will have more energy in the morning. He decided to make dinner knowing Twilight would want some when she came home. He went into the kitchen and made a simple dinner: seasoned alfredo pasta, two daisy with cheese sandwiches and a small spicy salad. He also laid a small bowl of gems the side for flavoring. He looked at the clock and noticed it was getting rather late. "I wonder where Twilight is." Spike said aloud. However, as soon as he said that, the front door opened and the aforementioned unicorn trotted in. He poked his head out the kitchen and smiled. "Hey Twilight. You're a little late." "Sorry about that Spike. I had a few things I had to take care of after I saw- wait do I smell pasta?" Twilight lost her train of thought as she smelled the delicious food. Spike chuckled lightly. "Sure is. Two daisy sandwiches and a salad too." Spike said proudly. After hearing that, Twilight's stomach roared at her, demanding that food be eaten immediately. "Wow thanks Spike, I'm starving after today." Spike nodded. "You and me both." Spike was heading to Applejack's to see how she is doing after making sure his work was done in the library. He was very hoping that Applejack had enough sleep so she could at least be rested for her work. After yesterday's incident, including the one about Rainbow Dash when she 'helped' her do a trick onto the balcony, Spike didn't want her making even more mistakes helping Fluttershy today. Although he doubted she could really do anything to bunnies. Spike went to the orchards and immediately saw the difference. She certainly made a huge difference from when he was last here. As he looked around, he saw the mare he was looking for. He smiled and ran up to her. "Hey Applejack!" Applejack turned around and frowned at the dragon. "What do yew want?" Spike was surprised at her tone. "Uh, I came to help out..." Applejack's frown deepened. "How many times do ah have to tell yaw! Ah don't need no help from nopony!" Spike flinched slightly from her tone. "But-" Applejack stomped a hoof on the ground. "No, no, no! Ah'll do this all on mah own." Before Spike could say anything, Applejack turned and went back to work grumbling. Spike was not expecting her to be this angry. She didn't have to say it like that. I was only trying to help... Spike thought. Spike walked up to her again. "Applejack?" Applejack groaned loudly before turning to him. "Didn't ah say-" "I'm not offering to help." Spike said holding his claws up defensively. Applejack's tone calmed a bit at that. "Alright, then what do you need?" "I was wondering when you are supposed to meet Fluttershy for the bunny census." Applejack's eyes grew wide. "Aww shoot! Ah forgot all about that! I gotta go." "Wait!" Spike called out but she kept galloping away. He sighed. Well, maybe while she is out doing that, I can help get the girls so they can help her out. Spike thought before heading back to town. "So let me get this straight, Applejack is harvesting the entire orchard by herself and won't accept any help from anypony, but yet you think I can change her mind?" Rainbow Dash said as her and Spike said at an outside table. Spike took a bite out of his sandwich he ordered and nodded. After swallowing he spoke up. "You and the other girls could probably convince her to accept help. Today is the last day for her harvest and I saw how much she had left. There is no way for her to finish it all alone." "I don't know. That mare can be pretty stubborn. Even I can't get through to her sometimes." Rainbow admitted. "Maybe if it was all of you, then she will listen." Spike suggested. Rainbow smirked. "You're awfully persistent on this little guy. Alright then, I'll give it a shot." Spike smiled. "Great! Now lets go get the others and...wait do you hear something?" Spike and Rainbow listened and heard a small rumbling noise. Rainbow took flight and looked toward where it sounded like it came from. Spike saw her eyes grow wide before she spoke. "Stampede!" Spike's eyes grew wide. Oh, no! Not again! He then saw once again all the ponies running in circles instead of hiding or getting away. He merely shook his head before starting to find a hiding spot. However, before he did, he noticed what the 'stampede' consisted of. Are those...bunnies? Spike knew there wasn't any reason to hide from bunnies so he just stood to the side. However, he had a small idea why these bunnies were running amok. He then noticed Fluttershy running after them. "Wait please! Lets go back to the forest little bunnies. Oh, no don't eat her garden. Oh...oh my..." Spike sighed. She did it again. Might as well help Fluttershy get these bunnies in order. Spike thought before hurrying over to help. "Hey Shy. Need any help?" Fluttershy turned to him and nodded. "Oh, yes please. I need to gather them all and bring them back to the forest." Spike looked around and saw Carrot Top cowering next to her stand. He ran over to her. "Can I get a few carrots?" Carrot Top merely threw three carrots towards him and still hid behind her stand. Spike merely shrugged before grabbing them and running back towards the rabbits. "Hey bunnies! Look what I got!" Spike said loudly and waved the carrots in the air." All the bunnies looked and saw the carrots before they all rushed straight towards him. "Yikes!" Spike then turned tail and ran right back out of the town, Fluttershy close behind. After getting them back to the forest, Spike laid the carrots in a pile and moved away. The bunnies pounced on the carrots and within seconds, they were gone. Spike sighed. "Crisis averted." Fluttershy came up to him and nuzzled him on the side. "Thank you oh so much for helping Spike. Things could have gotten much worse if you hadn't." Spike smiled. "Just helping out a friend. Speaking of, mind helping me out a bit?" Spike, Fluttershy, Rainbow, Pinkie, and Rarity were walking toward the farm. After the incident, him and Fluttershy found Rainbow near where he left. He also got Pinkie from Sugarcube corner since she was feeling better and promised to help out when she did. Rarity finished her dresses on time and after hearing what has been going on, decided to help convince her to accept help as well. "So where's Twilight?" Rarity asked as they got closer to the barn. "I saw her during the stampede right before Spike lured the bunnies away, but she just disappeared after that." Rainbow said. "Maybe she went to hide and stayed there?" Fluttershy said. "Or maybe she is already with Applejack, trying to convince her to accept help." Pinkie said. "What makes you think that Pinkie?" Rainbow said. "Because she is over by Applejack right now." Pinkie said pointing over toward a hill. Sure enough Twilight was standing over Applejack as she laid on the ground, Big Mac also standing nearby. "Well that's convenient." Rarity said as the got closer. As they got close, they heard Applejack speak. "Yes please Twilight. Ah could really use yer help." Applejack said almost pleadingly. "Well that saves us the trouble of trying to convince you." Rainbow said as they got close. Twilight was surprised. "Girls? What are you all doing here?" "Spike told us that Applejack needed to be convinced to accept help so here we are! But is seems you already beat us to it." Pinkie said with a smile. "Well you're timing couldn't be better. We have quite a bit of work to do here." Twilight said. "Well, lets get to work then." Spike said and they all nodded. Spike sat near a tree after all the work was done. He was exhausted. Phew! That was longer than I thought. We even had Twi's magic and it still took a while. I'm glad it's over though. Spike thought. Spike felt something cold touch his cheek and he jumped. He quickly turned to see Applejack smiling at him with a bottle of apple juice outstretched towards him. He smiled before taking it and drinking it, enjoying the beverage while Applejack sat next to him. "Ah know ah was acting up these past few days and ah'm mighty sorry for it." Spike smiled. "Apology accepted." Applejack smiled. "Ah heard from the girls about what ya did for me. It was mighty sweet of ya to go out ya way ta help me like ya did." "Anything for a friend." Spike said before he sipped on his beverage again. "Ya know, yer a pretty swell friend Spike. Glad ah'm one of em." Applejack said as she got up. Spike did as well and noticed Twilight a little ways away waving at him. "Spike! Let's head home! I'm starving!" Twilight said as her stomach growled loudly, them hearing it from where they were. Spike chuckled. "Well, I guess I'll see ya later Applejack." Applejack smiled. "Thanks again sugarcube." Spike nodded as he walked off. However he did hear Applejack say one last thing before he did. "That is one friend ah'm glad to have." Spike smiled proudly at that as him and Twilight headed home for a good meal.
