> Midnight's Missions > by Midnight Lance > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Midnight's Last Light > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Midnight’s Missions – Entry 1 Hello, my name is Midnight Lance (though most people just use my last name). This story is about my life during the vampony outbreak, which plunged the land into a new era, one of chaos, deception, and mistrust. Before all of this began I was a member of the black hooved guild, trained in the arts of thievery, assassination, blackmail and forgery, before that I was a scruffy little street kid, but more on that later. During my time as a “man for hire” I would use my skills and abilities to do whatever the highest bidder paid me to do. I used to be a Pegasus, now I’m a bat. The story of my turning is rather simple, I was hired to “obtain” some very important documents from the canterlot archive, if I remember correctly they referred to some kind of military stronghold to the northern borders. The main problems would be (and in this order), finding an entrance to the hold, finding the documents in the hold, getting the documents out of the hold, and not being killed whilst I was robbing the hold. After a few minutes scouting, I saw what I believed to be the perfect entrance, I also saw some sort of scuffle going on in the main hall, but that didn't concern me. There were no guards at the point, and it seemed that there were no real defenses. The window would be quite a narrow fit, but I’d always been quite skinny (a life of starvation and constant training), and I wanted to believe that my acrobatics would make squeezing through quite possible, even if I knew it wouldn't be very elegant. I decided that the best course of action would be to don my claws (we used them to make getting into high places easier, sometimes you just can’t be accurate enough with wings) and then I would fly as close to the opening as I could, then use them to grip onto the wall. After that I would climb the rest of the way in. all of this would have been spectacular and impressive. But then I saw an open door just below and decide that would be an easier way in. Once I was in, locating the archives was surprisingly easily (though Id walked into almost 10 bathrooms and through 20 corridors before I found them), the guards must have been distracted somehow, id thank whoever it was that saved me this trouble, but I’m still not certain which particular individual deserves my thanks. I quickly located the correct papers, the level of importance meant that either it would be on direct display, under heavy defences, or the paper would be hidden away, in a vault or a hidden safe. Similar to the one I had just found, underneath a hollow statue of “our god” Celestia. They were situated in a combination, key and code safe, one of the more secure ways to hide important files. The lock I could pick with ease, having been raised in a guild of thieves and assassins. The problem was the code. I could probably crack it if I had stayed there for about, oh I don’t know, 4 years. But I had a deadline, a very close deadline. I crept to the window and looked out, hoping to see a clear path to use during my escape. Perfect, the rooftops were clear, almost eerily so. I could grab the documents, jimmy the window, and fly till I was safe. Providing the noise didn’t draw too many guards, I should find the flight quite easy. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention how I was gonna open the safe. Dynamite (some jobs just can’t be solved with the good old tools). I stuck a stick in the rough location of the hidden hinges (as I knew, they were the weakest point), lit the fuse, hid behind a desk, plugged my ears, gritted my teeth and waited for the explosion. A vibrating floor, changes in the air pressure, a rise in heat, flying shrapnel and a huge ass KABANG. The safe, of course, was open. I grabbed the contents, checked it was the right thing, jumped out the window (smashed from the KABANG) and flew the fuck out of there. The skies were clear, and I didn’t see a single castle guard. They should take their job more seriously, someone might break in. I must have been flying for about 2 hours when I arrived at the drop off, I was keen to get paid and bug out, I’d been gone for a long time, and I didn’t want my tutors to worry ( I was still technically in training). Almost ten minutes late, my client arrived. I didn’t draw any attention to his lack of time keeping, to do so might lose us a potential repeat customer. He gave me my payment, a quick nod of his head, handed back my seal (a method we used to make sure that the customer was aware of just whose services he’d purchased, it also stopped anyone from accepting two missions at once, the jobs got more spread out that way) and then, he fucked off. This was how jobs would usually go, we got a lot of people wanting us to get stuff from castles and palaces. Of course, we turned down contracts from clear crazies, mainly people wanting to overthrow the crown, have the monarchy tumble or something like that. It just wasn’t worth the hassle, and we didn’t want to risk any clients turning on us. Do the job, get your pay, pray you fuck up another’s day. The unofficial motto of the guild. I arrived back at the guild shortly after, handed in my pay (you’re not allowed to keep it during your training), and left for bed. I was bit in my sleep. > Why am i here? > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Midnight’s Missions – Entry 2 Hey there, Lance again. So I’ve told you all what happened on my last day as a pure blood (the whole, steal shit from the god), and that I was bit in my sleep? Well now I’m gonna tell you about my first day as a vamp, I hope that you enjoy it, I know I did. I woke from my dreams covered in sweat, with a heat between my legs you wouldn’t believe. I was 19 at this time, so I knew what it meant. I’d just never really thought of anyone in that way. My missions meant that I couldn’t really get into a relationship with anyone outside, and most of the guild members either already had relationships, or like me just hadn’t found the right one. Wondering just what might have caused this state, I thought back to my dream, hoping it might shed some light. I remember that it started back in the ally that I spent my first few years living. I had been abandoned by my parents soon after my birth, they probably felt I was too feeble to survive, or just didn’t even deserve the chance to try. I was walking up and down the short path, trying to take my mind away from the growing pain in my empty stomach. Eventually I went back to the task I had given myself, to keep my mind from cracking. One time, when I was just finding somewhere comfortable to sleep, I saw this weird contraption on the corner of the road. I picked it up and brought it back to my little “paradise” and realised what it must have been, a crossbow, scratched and broken, almost as if it had fallen from somewhere high up, a fair number of times. The string was rotted, and the trigger was missing completely. I decided that to burn some of my time, I would make the restoration of this object my little hobby. The first thing I did was scavenge some rough sandpaper, from the bins behind a hardware store, and a half filled can of varnish from a furniture makers, when they were closed. I must have spent about 3 weeks working on it before the wood was back to a decent quality. Then the next thing I needed to find was a decent string. A music department at the middle school was a great help there, the string from a violin making an almost perfect substitute. Though it did take me a few days to get the string into the bow, and tighten it so that it could actually store some power. The trigger was a bit tricky. I couldn’t really think of any way I could get one, without taking the specific part form something else. I was ready to give up on the final project, but just as I was turning away (ready to go to bed after another long and painful day) I saw something rather surprising. A toy gun. The type of thing which fired those wired sucky things. I supposed that the trigger would be pretty much the same sort of thing, made of a different material sure, but in principle the same thing. I took the plastic contraption apart, an old metal spoons handle serving as my screw driver, took the parts I needed, went to the bow, and, finally, fixed it. It had been a few days after my project was finished, when I found myself waking up in my alley. It must have been a few hours before sunlight was supposed to hit me, I could tell because I had gotten used to seeing how the shadows cast by the moon, seemed to flee before the coming of the sun, quite frankly I couldn’t blame them. Sometimes I just wanted to find that id died in my sleep, and that I could finally leave my little cardboard box. I didn’t expect heaven, I just expected a change. However, something about the alley was different, the air wasn’t gathering around me as it usually did (thanks to the wind catching nature of my box). I wasn’t alone, there was someone else there. *long, slow whistle* I realised from the pitch that it was defiantly a mare, “you’ve really worked on this haven’t you?” her voice was almost melodious, calling to me, making me feel calm. “To be honest, I didn’t think it was possible to fix this old thing, but you’ve done quite the job.” She slid what she was holding over to me, it was the crossbow id repaired. “It wasn’t like I had anything else to do” I found myself answering, without really listening to what I was saying. “It was something to do, something to kill time. I’ve got a lot of time” I don’t quite know why but I began to chuckle, I just began chuckling. I stopped, then I cried. When I say that I began crying, I don’t mean in the little baby, 2 straight hours of screaming type of crying. I mean the silent, tears just flowing down my face because no matter who hard I try I just can’t stop them, type of crying. “Hey, who are you?” I asked the mare, she couldn’t have been that much older than me, around 16 probably. “Why are you here?” I didn’t really care, but I hadn’t talked to anyone in so long that I felt as is every opportunity to talk to some pony should be grasped as firmly as possible. “Me? Call me Crystal, What’s your name kid?” “Lance” “Nice name, what are you doing in an alley like this?” For a brief moment I felt sadder than ever before, I knew that it was a crummy crap place to live, but no one else had ever been around to confirm that before “ be fair, I asked you first” I replied. Trying to drag her attention away from me. “Fine, fine. I’m here because you’ve got my crossbow. In honesty I was going to just leave it here with you, but the guild doesn’t let me just give stuff away, whether it’s broken or not.” “Ok, you can have your crossbow, I couldn’t use it anyway (no bolts). But in exchange, you’ve got to answer one question” “Hum, one question eh. Ok ill bite, what’s the question?” “Who is this guild you’re talking about?” Immediately her face went red, almost as if she was utterly embarrassed “Uh…well….errrrr…..” “We had an agreement” “I know, I know. I’m just not meant to tell anyone….Ok I’ve got an idea, I’ll tell you but first you’ve got to come with me, deal” “Hehe, I’d leave this place if I could, but there’s one problem.” “What?” “I’m too tired to move…..just talking like this now is using almost all of my strength.” “Hehehe, not a problem” She picked me up. The first mare id ever talked too, and she’s just randomly picking me up. “Hey wait a minute, what the Bucks going on” I was panicking so much, I didn’t know what was going on. I was terrified. “Shhh, you’re going to wake everybody up. Besides, why are you scared? I’m not going to hurt you. Almost the opposite in fact. I’m going to take you to my home, and hopefully they’ll let you join us and you won’t have to sleep on concrete anymore.” For the rest of the journey she held me to her chest and as she took me away from the small cardboard prison I had been sentenced to, I found myself feeling happy. I hadn’t really felt like that before. In fact, I felt so relaxed in her arms that I began to fall asleep. The last thing I saw before closing my eyes was her warm soft smile. “WHY THE HELL HAVE YOU BROUGHT THIS USLESS BROKEN KID, INTO OUR GUILD” “SHUT UP, YOU’LL WAKE HIM UP. AND FOR YOUR INFORMATION HE IS NOT USLESS, LOOK AT HOW HE HAS FIXED MY CROSSBOW” That was the lovely balled that practically threw me from my comfortable sleep, to the floor of a large and very strange hall. “Where am I?” I asked, not really to anyone, more to myself. I often asked myself questions. “Well look at that, the kids woken up” as I raised my head, I found a quite tall and quite strong looking stallion, glaring down at me. “Crystal here thinks that you’ve got some kind of ability, well I can’t see it.” “See what?” I asked, still a bit groggy after just having woken up. “She says that you’re the one who fixed this bow, I think that’s bullshit.” “I did fix that bow, I spent about 4 weeks on it” “Prove it.” I began raking my brain, so many questions where floating through my head. Who was this, why did he have something against me, had I ever met him before. But most important, how the hell can I prove it was me fixing the bow. “If you look at the trigger, you’ll see it’s from a toy gun. I couldn’t think of how to get a real one so I had to find substitutes. Also the string is from a violin, a D-string I think.” He looked at the crossbow, and began to go very red, almost like he was a fire, about to burn my very soul. But then, I don’t know why, he calmed down. “Ok kid, so you fixed the bow. You may have some use after all. Tomorrow you’ll begin training, and then we’ll see if you can stay or not.” I let out the breath I had been holding. “Who was that?” “Guild master, he’s basically the one in charge. Anyway, your in. the training tomorrow is just a formality anyway.” I began to calm down. After all, if she said I was in, I was prepared to believe her. However, it was whilst I was calm that I realized something. “Hey Crystal?” “Hmm” “What exactly is this a guild off?” “Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you. Haha.” “But seriously, what have I got to learn.” “We’re pretty varied in what you can learn, but the main things we are known as, are assassins and thieves” “Well, shit” “Don’t worry you’ll get used to it, I was born into this so it’s never seemed that weird to me” I was beginning to wish I’d been left in my alley, it may have been cold and lonely but I’d never had to kill someone, steal yeah, but that stuffs easy. You wait until they’re not looking, then you grab and walk, never run. “Hey, sleep on it. If you don’t like the idea, then you can leave in the morning and we’ll never bother you again.” “Ok” I walked towards the nearest corner, and I sat down and began to curl up. “What are you doing?” “Getting ready to sleep” “Yeah, no. come on get up,” she offered her hand and pulled me to my feet “let’s get you to a bed. No more sleeping on the floor.” She led me through the hall towards an almost invisible door. “I hope there not all like that or even if I stay id probably get stuck, just trying to get out.” “very funny” she grinned, she had a beautiful grin. It wasn’t all girly like some mares are, but there was still a cute feminine touch there. After a short walk, she opened a door (luckily this one was visible) and ushed me inside. It was almost exactly how you’d expect some sort of college dorm to look, functional. But there were little clues that someone pretty casual lived here, some plastic cups and cutlery, discarded along with a pizza box. “Well this is my room, you can bunk with me for tonight. By tomorrow they should have your room all set up.” “A-Are you sure, I don’t want to be a bother or anything” “*sigh* come on” her grin was back as she saw just how badly I was blushing. She led me into what I assumed was the bedroom, it was quite dark. “Here” the lights came up “don’t be shy, climb on in” She was laying down on her bed, the covers open to give enough room for someone to climb in with her. “I-I’m fine sleeping on the floor. I-If that’s ok.” “God, get over it.” she grabbed me by the waist and lay me in the bed with her. She pulled up the covers and then, she turned off the lights. The last thing I remembered before I just fainted from embarrassment, was how warm she felt against me. I can’t quite remember what happened after that, all I could focus on was how much I wanted to go and see Crystal, she may have been older than me, but there wasn’t that large a gap (she was 26 and I was just 19). I noted that the moon was still quite high in the clouds, and that it couldn’t be too far away from the very thing I had named myself after, half an hour either way. I crept out of my room and elected to glide down the corridors rather then walk, less to hide my presence, more to not wake anyone or disturb anyone. Also some people may well be prepping for missions and the last thing they need is someone making a load of noise upstairs. I spread my wings and found that they were a little bigger then I remembered. In the dark I couldn’t really see them, but I could feel that they were much larger than normal. I began to wonder why, before the heat in my loins took over again and anything that I may have questioned was covered in a haze of lust and desire. I practically floated down the corridors, passing the rooms of all my friends and colleges, made my way to where the boy’s dorm ended and where the girls began. I’m still not sure how I managed to find her room precisely. I had only ever been there once before. As I approached her door, it opened for me. I walked into the room and the door closed behind me. She was there, sitting on her chair, wearing the close fitting guilds light variant of armour. “Hey there Lance, what brings you here?” she had a glint in her eye, and a revealing grin on her face. “What’s the matter? Bat got your tongue, hehe.” > Bite Night > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Midnight’s Missions – Entry 3 So, you know about my past. You know I lived on the streets for the ‘best’ part of 7 years. I’d tell you how I managed to survive for the first four but I really don’t remember (I probably don’t want too). You know that I was taken in by the guild, by Crystal. You know I worked on a fair few difficult missions. You know that I was bit. You can probably guess whom by. So anyway, this is how my first few hours as a vamp went…goddess I’m embarrassed. “Crystal.” I hadn’t really planned what I was going to say, my hormone filled mind making it rather hard to think “Hi. So, err… Got any missions going on?” I was finding it hard just to form a coherent sentence; my thoughts were muddled and cloudy. My crotch was on fire, almost as if I was going through some form of male heat, of course this is just a guess. Being male, I think that I’m not really in a position to know, or ever find out, just what heat is like. I found myself beginning to perspire, from both arousal and fear. Arousal at being so near to Crystal, and fear for just how badly I could muck this up. She may well have been a very nice pony – but she was a trained killer. I didn’t know what was going on, why I felt like this. All I knew was that this was the right place to be, the only place to be. With her. “Nothing much, just finishing off some forgeries. I’ve got to get these to a mare in the country, she’s looking to get passage to Boltain and she doesn’t exactly have the money to get real papers.” “A charity mission?” I was mildly surprised. “I can’t even remember the last time the guild took on one of those.” “Yeah, but this should be good practice for future missions, so we said we’d give her a freebie on this. What’s the matter, you ok?” She rose from her chair and made her way across the floor, swaying her hips slowly as she did. “I-I don’t feel quite right, I d-don’t know why, but I woke up, a-and I took a walk, a-and I came here. S-Sorry. I’d go, but I don’t t-think I can.” My voice was gone, my throat offering nothing but awkward squeaks and burbles, I could barely sting the words together in my head, saying them aloud was as difficult as getting a griffin to be humble. My body was so hot; it felt like my blood was being heated from the inside. “Awhh, don’t worry,” cooed Crystal, her face awash with compassion and caring, her hands taking hold of my shoulders. “It’s just my venom, coursing through your veins. It won’t hurt you, almost the exact opposite actually. You’ll lust for me, uncontrollably. You’ll want me… you’ll need me. You’ll be completely under my control, but don’t worry. I wouldn’t do anything to hurt you.” She began to circle round behind me, I tried to turn, but my flanks just wouldn’t obey me. “You know, ever since I saw you in that alley, I’d wanted to speak to you. I knew you were working on that bow for 2 weeks before I finally walked down there.” Her arms started to sneak around me, coiling till I was held tightly against her. I could feel her firm breasts pressing into my back, her warm breath tickling my neck, her lips almost brushing against me. “Venom? W-what do you mean” I was panting with arousal, my usually pale face darkening as the blood rushed to my cheeks. “Haven’t you figured it out yet?” she teased, spinning round so she was facing me once again. Flashing me with another of her signature grins, though this time there was a difference. Where her canines had previously been, new strange teeth were placed. Fangs. Long, pointed and pure white, still a little most with cold poison. Most people would have found them terrifying, I don’t know if it was the poison, or that I’d know her for so long, but rather than scared, I felt relaxed, tranquil. “W-wha….wh-why….” I couldn’t speak. The ability had completely gone; my mind was foggy, like someone has squirted whipped cream into my thoughts. “Come on, can’t you put two and two together.” I tried to reply but I just couldn’t, I could barely stand at this point. “*sighs* ever the clueless one.” “I’m a vampony” ……“Hey”………… …………..”Midnight?”………. ”WAKE UP!!!” I bolted upright, to find that I had been placed into bed, though it wasn’t mine. “Had me worried for a second there,” exhaled a compassionate voice in my ear, Crystal’s voice. “…..Did I dream that?” “Nuh, it’s true. I’m a vampony. A bat, specifically, have been for a couple of years now.” “What’s the difference?” I joked; I guess I was just a little delirious at that point. I realised that the heat between my legs had lessened, not gone completely, but at least I could think now. “Wait a minute, you’re a vampony. I thought they were a myth.” “Oh charming, so what am I, a figment of your imagination?” she pressed herself up against me “No, I feel real,” she giggled. “and so do you” she wrapped her arms back around me; I should have backed off. I would of in any normal situation; I wasn’t usually very good with touchy people. I felt awkward whenever people tried to hug or kiss me. But not with her. Not this time. Crystal hummed to herself, holding me close to her chest. “You know, this is the first time you’ve let me hug you in a while. You’d always found excuses not to before. Either you had to prepare for a mission, or you had to give in the pay, once you even claimed to be covered in poison.” She giggled at the recollection. “Remember that?” “Yeah…” I sighed, heat returning to my groin, my thoughts once again losing themselves in her voice. Why wasn’t I scared? Crystal let out a small-dejected sigh. “It’s a shame that it’s got to come to an end.” “Yeah….wait, what” She bit me…..again. I pushed her away as soon as she retracted her fangs, blood was pouring out of my shoulder, and my entire left side was numb with the pain. “LUNA’S FUCK, WHY THE HELL DID YOU BITE ME YOU NUTTER!” My blood began to boil once again; though this time, it definitely wasn’t lust. “Yeah, I know you’d get like this.” She mumbled, resting her face in one of her hands. “WHY THE HELL ARE YOU SO FREKIN CASUAL, YOU DAMN WELL BIT ME.” “Keep your voice down, you’ll wake the entire guild.” “Maybe I want to, this may sound a little weird, but maybe I want them to come here because YOU FREKIN BIT ME” “Oh be quiet,” she said, raising her hand. “And go to sleep” …She shot me. “Uhh….my head.” I slowly raised my body once again. Confused as to what the hell had just happened. I remembered being in Crystals arms, how warm she felt. I remember her arms, how safe I felt in them. I remembered her hands, how tightly they held me. I remembered her sighing, mentioning how it’s got to end. I remembered her biting me. “Hey, Midnight.” Crystal was there. I practically fell out of the bed, willing my body to find the door, however, I was too disorientated to stand; there was too much pain to be able to really do anything. But I tried. Crystal sighed. “Come on, kid, back you go” I felt her pick me back up, place me back into the bed. I submitted; there was no hope of me getting out of there, not in this state. I resigned myself to whatever she had planned. “What are you going to do?” I asked, trying to keep the fear out of my voice, the tears from coming out of my eyes. This mare had saved my life, all those years ago. Now she was going to end it. I screwed my eyes closed, tensed my entire body. Tried to prepare for the pain she was going to inflict. “*hum* what am I going to do? Nothing” she smiled that disarming smile. “What do you mean?” “I’ve told you before; I’m not going to hurt you.” She sat down beside me, sliding her hand underneath my head, me too weak to resist. She sighed softly as she ran her fingers through my mane affectionately. “Think about what’s going on here, I’m a vampony, you weren’t, I bit you soooo…” She looked at me imploringly. “So what? Now I am.” I sighed. “Well that’s just wonderful, no more day missions for me,” I giggled. “But why? You still haven’t explained why you bit me, why I lusted so badly for you, why you shot me, and why you still haven’t killed me.” I began to lose my mind a little, my voice becoming higher as the panic began to return, my blood pressure would have been through the roof, you know, if I had any blood. “Well, first I bit you in your sleep, that’s what made you lust for me.” Crystal began explaining just what was going on, how I was changing, why she wanted to change me. “Then after you fainted I bit you again; that’s what made you angry.” “Oh really Sherclop, what made you come to that conclusion?” I teased, realising that I was no longer actually angry with her, I was still a bit pissed at being bit, but worst things have happened. “Very funny, Charlie Chap-mane. But the teeth weren’t what you were mad at. A vampony’s venom works in a very complex way, each bite causing different responses and slowly increasing your vamponic nature. Then I shot you, with a tranquiliser, to stop you from hurting me, or yourself.” “Wait so you’ve got to bite me more than once, for me to become a vampony” I began to feel the strength returning to my limbs. “What kind of weak ass bite do you have?” I laughed, the insanity of the whole thing bringing up my giggles. She laughed with me. “Yeah, it’s pretty stupid. But then again, I suppose it stops everyone we feed on from becoming one of us. If they did, then this thing would spread almost 10 times as quickly.” I could move my arms again “Oh yeah, and why I bit you. I still haven’t said” her cute little smiled returned. “I love you” I had been using my arms to push me back to a sitting position. Needless to say that her statement made me fall back down onto the bed. “WHAT” I cried. Blood began rushing to my cheeks and turned my indigo coat vermilion red, in a form of full body blush. “Wh-what do you mean” I stammered, little giggles working their way into my words. “Oh come on, don’t be like that. I’ve always had a think for you.” She laid down beside me. “And don’t deny that you’ve had a thing for me. I’ve seen you looking at me during training, when you think I can’t see. The way you always blush a little when I enter the room. It’s kinda obvious” My ears flattened themselves against my head, my cheeks burned a brighter red then they’d ever managed before. It was true of course; I mean how could I not like her. She saved me from a painful life, she helped me train, and she was like a big sister to me. How could I not have hoped it would become more, but I suppose after years of being too nervous to approach her, after years of telling myself that it could only go badly, I’d convinced myself that it was a stupid wish, that it could never come true. I resigned myself to failure. “I admit that I always admired you, I mean you’re one of the best thieves here. And you’re also very physically strong, much stronger than people would think. You’re honest, well as much as a thief can be, and you’re smart. You’re quite beautiful; you have soft red hair, a smooth coat, a cute walk…” I clammed up, burning crimson as I realised what I had been saying, I- I didn’t mean to, I was just listing her traits and I guess I forgot to keep some of my thoughts in my head. “You think I’m cute?” She plopped her head next to mine, I still didn’t really have enough body control to move away. “Well, y-yeah. I-I mean who wouldn’t?” I was so embarrassed. “Aww, you’re sweet.” And with that, she kissed me.
