Chapter 1: Is this the end?

Rainbow Dash woke up to a beeping sound. She opened her eyes slowly as she saw a pale white light. She felt sharp pain in her body. The beeping sounded every second and she slowly looked around. The room was white and boring, filled with the pale white light from the lamp in the roof. She felt really tired and felt pain in her entire body. Rainbow Dash lifted her head slightly and looked down. She was lying in a hospital bed and she had tubes running into her body. Panic started to fill her mind as she put her head back onto the pillow. Her head started to spin and she felt sick. She heard a quiet voice in the other end of the room.

"Rainbow Dash?"

The pony came closer and Rainbow looked over to see who it was. She saw something pink and yellow in her blurred vision. Even though she could barely see, she knew it was Fluttershy. Fluttershy stood next to the bed with a sad look on her face. Rainbow Dash tried to speak but her voice wasn't there. She tried again but not a single sound came out her mouth. 

"Don't try to speak Rainbow," Fluttershy said with a sad voice, "you need to rest."

Rainbow Dash regained her vision and looked at her friend with a questioning look. She tried to remember what had happend to her but she couldn't remember anything. Fluttershy continued speaking with her quiet voice.

"I'm s-so happy you're awake. You have been unconscious for three days after I found you."

"W-what happened t-to me?" Rainbow managed to say, extremely quiet.

"You've had an accident and dissapeared in the Everfree Forest," Fluttershy said with a small tear on her cheek, "we searched after you for four days but couldn't find you."

Fluttershy paused for a minute and tried to keep her tears in. She put a hoof on Rainbow's shoulder. 

"I found you three days ago when I was on my way to Zecora. I thought you were dead at first. I brought you to the hospital and they helped you as best as they could," a small pause came upon Fluttershy and she started to cry a little, "they said you might not survive."

Rainbow Dash started to panic from the news and tried to roll out of the bed to escape. Her attempts resulted in massive pains and she screamed as loud as she could, but it wasn't very loud. Fluttershy hugged her friend gently to try to calm her, Rainbow keept struggeling.

"P-please Rainbow, calm down. I'm here for you, you will be okay."

"H-how can you say that Fluttershy?" Rainbow asked with a sob, "I'm going to die... I don't want to d-die Flutters."

Rainbow Dash was crying in both pain and fear. Her life was about to end. The tender embrace of her friend was calming her down, but she was still panicing.

"The doctors said you still have a chance to survive, but you need to calm down and rest," Fluttershy said as she sat down next to the bed, "I will be here for you Rainbow."

"Thanks Fluttershy," Rainbow said calmly, and with a small smile on her face, "you are a true friend."

A doctor entered the room and close behind him was the rest of her friends. All of them had a sad expression on their faces. Rainbow Dash felt a happy to see that everypony had come to see her.

"Now, try not to stress her, she need to rest," the doctor said gently to Rainbow's friends, "call me if you need me, okay?"

"Thank you doctor," Twilight said as the doctor left the room, " hey Rainbow Dash, how are you feeling?"

"Not that good, but thanks anyway," Rainbow said with a sad expression on her face, "I'm glad to see you all here."

"That is what friends are for," Applejack said with a smile, " we hope you get better soon."

"Yeah! You will be better in now time!" Pinkie pie exclaimed happily.

"There is something you all should know..." Fluttershy looked very sad.

The room got quiet and everypony looked at Fluttershy except Rainbow. Even pinkie Pie was silent. The only sound in the room was the beeping from the machines. 

"Rainbow Dash might not survive her injuries."

The news shook all of her friends. Pinkie Pie's happy mood dissapeared. Rainbow Dash looked even more sad than before and she started to sob. The beeping continued and they all was quiet for a long while. The doctor came in.

"Everything okay in here," he asked with a concerned look.

"Is it true that Rainbow Dash might not survive?" Twilight asked quietly as she turned to the doctor.

"Unfortunately there is a chance that she will not survive from the injuries," the doctor said with a sad tone, " but we will try everything we can to make sure she will be okay. Now, if it's okay, Rainbow needs her rest."

Everyone nodded and slowly walked towards the door. Everypony had a very sad look on their faces. Rainbow Dash looked up to see her friends leave.

"Do you need anything before I leave, Rainbow Dash?" the doctor said gently.

"C-can you get Fluttershy? I-I need to speak to her."

He nodded and walked down the hall towards her friends. The door shut behind him and she felt lonely without anypony with her. After a  few moments, Fluttershy peeked through the door. She walked towards Rainbow and sat down next to the bed again. She looked at the rainbow coloured pony with a few tears running down her cheeks.

"F-fluttershy... I need to tell you something, " Rainbow said with a weak voice and made a small pause, "I wanted to.. tell you before... but I-I wasn't brave enough." Rainbow made another pause.

"What is it Rainbow?" Fluttershy asked. She leaned forward.

"I-I wanted... to say..." a longer pause came between them, Fluttershy listen closely, "I want you to know... that...."

This pause was longer than before, the beeping from the machines became slower and slower and Rainbow Dash's breathing became slower and slower. Suddenly the beeping stoped and the only sound was a long single tone. The small screen on the machine showed a flat line and Rainbow Dash had her eyes closed. Fluttershy stood up.

"Rainbow Dash? Rainbow Dash!!" Fluttershy became scared and shook her friend, "Rainbow?! Wake up!! Doctor!!" Fluttershy screamed as loud as she could.

Two doctors and a nurse came running in through the door. They told Fluttershy to step back and she nodded and took a few steps back. They started to work on Rainbow and tried to revive her.
'Is this it? Is this the end for Rainbow Dash? What was she going to tell me?' a voice in Fluttershy's head echoed over and over. Her vision became blurred and everything became black as the voice echoed. She felt tears running down her cheeks and she stoped hearing the doctors and everything became silent except the voice in her head.

End of chapter 1
> Chapter 2: The trip to Canterlot

Chapter 2: The trip to Canterlot

Nine days earlier.

Fluttershy flew up to Rainbow Dash's house and gently knocked on the door. She heard nothing from inside so she knocked again. Yet again nothing happened. 

"Rainbow Dash, are you in there?" 

Fluttershy tried to open the door and surprisingly the door opened. She took a step inside and looked around. Rainbow's house was quite big on the inside and she looked around the room. She stepped inside and closed the door behind her. She walked into the kitchen and looked around. The kitchen had alot of empty food boxes and junk on the floor. Fluttershy kept walking towards Rainbow's bedroom. She knew where it was because Rainbow Dash had invited her over when she got the house. Fluttershy knocked on the bedroom door gently before opening it. She looked inside and saw a rainbow coloured mane in the bed. 

"Rainbow Dash? Are you awake?" Fluttershy asked gently without being to loud.

"Huh, w-who's... what?" Rainbow Dash said confused and sleepy.

"It's me, Fluttershy. Did I wake you up?" she asked feeling a bit guilty.

"What... no you didn't... I have been up for a while now..." Rainbow said with a big yawn.

"Oh, good." Fluttershy knew it was a lie. "Are you ready to go?"

Rainbow Dash looked up at her yellow friend. 'Go where? What does she mean? Why is she in my bedroom?' was the only things Rainbow thought of. She tried to remember what she was supposed to do.

"Go where?" Rainbow felt stupid for asking that and she tried to cover up her question with another yawn.

"You don't remember?" Fluttershy asked with a slight disappointment in her voice. "We were going to the new carnival in Canterlot. You promised me that we would go."

"Oh I remember now. Sure Fluttershy, just let me get ready and we'll get going." 

Fluttershy looked happy towards her rainbow friend. She nodded and left the room. She decided to pass the time by making Rainbow Dash breakfast. She cleared a bench and opened the fridge. She was surprised to see fresh fruit and vegetables in there. She took a few ingredients and made a small salad for Rainbow. Fluttershy put the meal on the dinner table, which had a few letters on it, but was otherwise clean. After a few minutes Rainbow Dash entered the kitchen, surprised for what she saw. Fluttershy sat at the table, looking happy and pushed the salad towards her friend and signalled her to sit down and eat.

"Did you make this Fluttershy?" 

"Yes, you don't want to leave hungry do you?" Fluttershy asked with a smile on her face.

"No. What is it?" Rainbow wondered at the sight of the bowl.

"It's a fresh salad," Fluttershy said happily, "I hope it taste good."

Rainbow walked slowly towards the table and sat down. She looked at the salad, which actually looked quite good. She ate it slowly, savouring the flavours. She looked up at Fluttershy.

"You are an awesome chef Fluttershy. This is really amazing."

"Thank you Rainbow, I'm  glad you enjoyed it." Fluttershy felt a little blush creep up on her face. "Are you ready to get going?"

"Sure."

Rainbow and Fluttershy made their way to the train station. Both of them were silent the whole way there, but they had a smile on their faces. The trip to the station took a few minutes and they were a bit early for the train. They waited in silence for the train to arrive. The train rolled into the station and they walk on it. They found a good seat and sat down. As the train departed and they were on their way to Canterlot, a familiar voice was heard. They both looked back from where the voice came and they saw Twilight. 

"Hey guys, why are you two on this train?" Twilight asked with a happy tone.

"We are going to the new carnival in Canterlot," Fluttershy replied with a smile, "Rainbow promised me to take me there."

"How nice of you Rainbow Dash."

"Well, I am the element of loyalty after all. I wouldn't leave my best friend hanging." Rainbow looked at Twilight with a questioning look. "Why are you going to Canterlot Twi? Another test?"

"No actually, Princess Celestia wanted to meet me."

"What an honour." Fluttershy said with a happy tone.

Twilight giggled and started to turn around.

"Well you two have fun," Twilight said with a smile, "I'll go continue reading my book."

"You to Twilight." Fluttershy replied.

Twilight walked back to her seat and picked up her book with her magic. Rainbow Dash was looking out the window, looking towards the sky with a bored look. They both sat quiet for a long time, the only sound was the train cart bumping occasionally.  Twenty minutes passed and Rainbow was really bored at this time and she looked toward Fluttershy. Rainbow got surprised at what her friend was doing. Fluttershy stared at her with a dreamy look in her eyes.

"Um, Fluttershy?" Rainbow asked confused.

Fluttershy noticed her friend and looked away with a squeak. She felt so ashamed for what she had done and she hid her face behind her mane.

"Fluttershy? Are you okay?" Rainbow asked softly.

"Um... I... " Fluttershy became silent.

"What were you doing?"

"Nothing... I was looking out the window." Fluttershy replied quickly.

"Um... If you say so." Rainbow looked even more confused. She felt hungry and said, "Are you hungry Fluttershy?"

"No... I-I mean yes." Fluttershy was really jumpy and tried to calm down.

"I'll go get something to eat, you stay here Fluttershy." She said with a smile as she stood up.

Fluttershy tracked her cyan friend as she walked off. She looked out the window and felt a bit lonely. A hoof got placed on her shoulder and she jumped and squeaked. 

"Relax Fluttershy, it's just me." Twilight said reassuring.

"Sorry Twilight, what do you want?" the shy pegasus asked softly.

"I noticed that you were looking at Rainbow. I just wanted to ask why."

"I...I.. don't know..." Fluttershy's voice was really quiet.

Twilight tried to get some answers from her shy friend.

"It's okay, you can tell me. You don't have to be ashamed."

Fluttershy shook her head and moved closer to the window. She didn't want to talk about it and stared toward the sky.

"Come on Fluttershy, you can tell me. I wont tell anypony." Twilight tried without success.

"Please Twilight, I don't want to talk about it."

"Is it about Rainbow Dash?"

Fluttershy moved even closer to the window and slowly nodded.

Rainbow came back with three meals and sat them down next to Fluttershy. She looked a bit worried for her friend who was curled up, looking out the window. Twilight stood beside the seat without a single expression on her face.

"Fluttershy? Are you feeling bad?" Rainbow's voice was filled with worry.

A small shake came from the shy pegasus. Rainbow looked at Twilight. 

"What happened, Twilight?"

"We were talking and I pushed her a bit to far. I didn't mean to make her feel like this." Twilight's voice had a bit of worry in it.

"What were you talking about?"

"Something personal to Fluttershy." Twilight didn't want to cause any more trouble.

"Can we eat now?" The quiet voice cut them of.

"Um, sure. I brought you a meal Twi, since you haven't had anything since we stepped on." Rainbow said with a small smile.

"Thank you Rainbow," a smile came to Twilight's face, "I'm starving."

The three ponies sat down and enjoyed the food the cyan pegasus had brought them. Fluttershy was still looking out the window, not saying anything. Twilight ate without saying anything, fearing to cause her shy friend to feel bad. Rainbow Dash looked between them, wondering what they were thinking. The silence was finnaly broke by the cyan mare. 

"How are you feeling Fluttershy?"

"I.. um... I'm fine."

"You sure? You have been quiet for a really long time and you have been staring out the window."

"I'm fine." Fluttershy's voice got a little louder.

"Please Fluttershy, look at me." Rainbow said gently and placed a hoof on her friends shoulder.

Fluttershy slowly turned around to face her cyan friend. Twilight stood up and walked away to give them some privacy. Rainbow Dash placed her hoof on Fluttershy's cheek.

"What's up Fluttershy? I know something is wrong."

"Um... it's private... I don't want to talk about it."

"Okay Fluttershy... if you say so." Rainbow Dash looked disappointed and looked away.

Fluttershy wanted to say something, but she couldn't come up with anything to say. They sat in silence for half an hour before they felt the train cart shake as it slowed down.
They arrived at Canterlot train station and the took their bags and walked off. They said goodbye to Twilight and started to walk towards their destination. After a small walk in silence, Fluttershy finnaly spoke.

"I'm sorry for before."

"What?" Rainbow looked at her friend with a confused look.

"I'm sorry for what happened on the train. I didn't mean to worry you."

"Fluttershy. You have nothing to be sorry about."

"Thank you Dashie." Fluttershy leaned on her cyan friends side.

"Fluttershy? What's with you today?" Rainbow looked at her friend with a confused look.

"What do you mean?" Fluttershy stopped and looked at Dash.

"The breakfast, the weird mood, the staring and now the leaning." Rainbow Dash looked at her friend. "You have been acting weird all day."

Fluttershy shrugged back and hid her face.

"I'm sorry Dash... I didn't..." she was cut of by her friend.

"I don't mind very much, I was just wondering why you did it."

"Um... I..." Fluttershy tried to come up with a answer but couldn't. She took a few steps back.

"It's okay Flutters, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to. Let's just go have fun okay?" Rainbow said with a smile.

"But... I didn't answer..."

"It's okay Flutters. If you don't feel comfortable answering, I wont force you." Her smile was still there.

Fluttershy looked at her friend, "Are you sure?"

Rainbow Dash answer by nodding. She signalled for Fluttershy to follow and they started walking towards the carnival. After only a few minute they arrived at the carnival entrance. 

End of chapter 2
> Chapter 3: Confession

Chapter 3: Confession

Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy entered the carnival. Fluttershy looked around and walked closer to Rainbow. She tried to hide next to her and this action wasn't unnoticed by Rainbow Dash. She looked down at her.

"Fluttershy? What's wrong?"

Fluttershy hid behind her mane and pushed her closer to the cyan body.

"Fluttershy?" Rainbow stopped. "Fluttershy, what are you doing?"

"There's so many ponies here." Fluttershy said with a trembling voice.

"Relax Flutters, I'm here for you." Rainbow smiled at her.

"But it's so scary Dash."

"Calm down. I will protect you, just like I did in flight school. Remember?"

Fluttershy nodded but was still right next to her friend. She felt safe next to her brave friend. She felt bad for putting her best friend through all this but Rainbow Dash didn't seem to care. 

"I'm sorry Dash... I didn't mean to put you through all this." A sad expression fell upon Fluttershy.

"Fluttershy..." Rainbow sighed, "please stop blaming yourself. Now what's the problem?"

"I... um...well," Fluttershy stammered, "nothing..."

"Come on Flutters, please tell me what's bothering you." Rainbow said with a gentle voice.

"Okay, I'll tell you... but can it wait till later? Please."

"Okay fine, it can wait until we get to the hotel. Deal?"

"Deal... thanks Dash."

Rainbow Dash smiled at her friend and started walking towards a ride and Fluttershy followed closely. Fluttershy was still quite close to the cyan pony but when Fluttershy saw what it was she froze in place. Rainbow looked back and saw the frozen pegasus. She walked back to her and put a hoof on her shoulder. 

"You don't have to get on this, Fluttershy." Rainbow tried to reassure her friend.

"Oh, thank you Rainbow." Fluttershy looked happier.

Rainbow Dash turned around and got in line for the roller coaster. Fluttershy decided to sit down on a bench and watch her friend. She sat on the bench and saw her friend step onto the ride. Fluttershy just watched her friend during the ride. After a minute the ride was over. When Rainbow Dash got off the ride she looked around for her friend. She saw Fluttershy sitting on a bench, looking at her with a dreamy look. Rainbow looked around her to try to see what her friend was looking at, but she realised Fluttershy was looking at her. Rainbow started to walk slowly toward Fluttershy. When she got closer, Fluttershy shook her head and stood up. 

"How was the ride Dash?"

"It was awesome." Rainbow said with a happy voice.

Fluttershy smiled and was about to continue walking, but was stopped by a question from her friend.

"What was you looking at before?"

"I was looking at you." Fluttershy said with a dreamy voice. She quickly put a hoof over her mouth, but it was too late. She had already said it.

"What?" Rainbow said, a bit confused.

"Nothing!" Fluttershy blurred out.

"Okay..." Rainbow still looked confused and paused. "So Fluttershy, what do you want to do now?"

"I heard they had a petting zoo here, lets go there." Fluttershy faked a smile and started walking. She tried to hide her shame.

"Okay Flutters." Rainbow Dash said happily, but her mind was still confused.

They walked around for a bit and found the petting zoo. Fluttershy entered but Rainbow Dash stood outside and looked at the animals gathering around her friend. Fluttershy looked really happy as she petted the animals.

"Come here Rainbow." Fluttershy said to her friend with a smile.

Rainbow Dash didn't want to make her friend feel bad so she stepped inside the pen. She walked over to the yellow pony who was still smiling at her. Rainbow sat down next to her and tried to look happy. She forced a smile onto her face. Fluttershy noticed that Rainbow wasn't liking this as much as she did. Fluttershy knew that Rainbow tried to make her feel happy, which it did. Fluttershy gave her friend a happy smile, which Dash returned.

After a day of fun, they both headed to the hotel. After a few minutes walk they reached the hotel. They checked in and went to their room. Rainbow opened the door and walked in, with Fluttershy right behind her. The room was big and luxurious. There was only one problem with the room that Rainbow noticed right away, it had only one bed.

"I guess I'll sleep on the couch. You can have the bed Flutters." Rainbow offered her friend.

"We can share the bed Rainbow."

"Are you sure Fluttershy? I can sleep on the couch if you want."

"I'm sure. We're adults right?"

"Okay, if you say so."

Rainbow stepped in the bathroom and shut the door with her wing. She stepped in the shower and turned it on. Fluttershy was sitting on the couch and looked around the room. Her mind was only thinking of one thing. 'I wonder what Rainbow Dash will think of me when I tell her...' The question was stuck in her head and she stood up. She walked toward the bathroom and opened the door without knowing that her friend was in there. She opened the door and walked in. She looked up and froze, her eyes stare at her friend. The only thing she was able to do was stare. Her thoughts were interrupted by a voice shouting at her.

"Get out Fluttershy!"

Fluttershy quickly closed her eyes. What she saw, she would never see again.

"I'm so sorry Dash. I didn't mean to look."  Fluttershy said as she backed out the room.

"Just get out please."

Fluttershy shut the door and sat back down on the couch, not believing what she had seen. The image was stuck in her mind and it was all she could see. The image of her friend in the shower pleasuring herself was all that filled her mind.
After a few minutes Rainbow stepped out of the bathroom with an ashamed look on her face. She walked over to her friend and sat down. 

"How much did you see Fluttershy?" Her voice was serious and at the same time, ashamed. 

"I'm not sure... I saw what you were doing to yourself." 

"Please don't tell the others, or anyone about this. You have to promise me that you wont tell anypony."

"You can trust me," Fluttershy looked at Rainbow, "but why were you doing that?"

"The truth is that I have been feeling lonely for a long time and what when I do that... it makes me happy and feel special."

"Is that why you went with me here? To not be lonely?"

Rainbow Dash nodded slowly and looked down to the floor. Fluttershy had never thought that Rainbow Dash was lonely. She always looked so happy. She had friends. Fluttershy felt bad for her friend and put her hooves around Rainbow and hugged her. Fluttershy's soft mane and fur felt nice. The yellow pegasus held her friend tightly for a minute to comfort her. 

"Fluttershy?"

"Yes?" 

"What were you going to tell me before?"

"What do you mean Dash?"

"Remember at the carnival. You said that you would tell me when we got here."

Fluttershy moved a bit further away from Rainbow Dash. She looked away. 

"Can I trust you?"

"I'm the element of loyalty and your best friend, you can trust me."

Fluttershy looked at the magenta eyes of her friend. She took a deep breath.

"I think I like one of my friends."

"Is that it? That you like a friend?" Rainbow Dash got a confused look on her face.

"Well... it's more than like... I think I love her."

"Love? Who is it?"

Fluttershy looked away and buried her face in her hooves. 

"I'll tell you in the morning." Fluttershy didn't want to tell her now.

"Okay Flutters, you can tell me tomorrow. But you have to tell then."

Fluttershy nodded and looked out the window. Luna had already raised the moon and it was getting late. Fluttershy stood up and walked to the bed.

"Going to bed already?"

"It's getting late and I'm a bit tired."

"Mind if I join you?" Rainbow chuckled at the suggestion.

"Not at all."

They both got into the big bed, Rainbow laid at the edge of the bed to give her friend space. It didn't take long before Rainbow Dash fell asleep in the comfortable bed. For Fluttershy it was harder to fall asleep. Her mind was filled with different things and the two main things were, seeing her friend in the shower and what Rainbow Dash's reaction would be when she told her. 'What am I going to do?' 
Fluttershy felt tired and her eyes began to get heavy. The thoughts still floating around in her head. After a minute, she too was sleeping.

She awoke to a bright room, birds singing in the distance and a wonderful smell as something tickled her nose. She opened her eyes and saw a rainbow straight in front of her face. Fluttershy realised that she was hugging her friend in her sleep and was very close to each other. The warmth of the cyan body felt nice and Fluttershy felt the the chest rise and fall slowly. Fluttershy snuggled closer and relaxed with a sigh.

"Awake yet?" Fluttershy heard her friend say softly. 

Fluttershy hummed something without paying much attention.

"Comfy?" Rainbow asked gently, trying to keep her voice low.

"Yes, this is just perfect..." Fluttershy mumbled.

"Well it's time to get up now Flutters." 

Fluttershy quickly realised that Dash was awake when she heard her name. She crawled away from her friend and sat up. Her eyes were filled with fright and she felt her face heat up.

"Relax Fluttershy. I didn't mind it at all." Rainbow said with a smile on her face as she looked over.

"How long have you been awake?"

"For an hour now. Don't worry about it, it was actually quite nice to lie like that."

"You don't mind?" Fluttershy's voice was back to normal but had a slight confused tone to it.

"Well, it was a bit awkward since you are my best friend. Now, if I remember correct, you were supposed to tell me who you loved, am I right" Rainbow's words hit her like a brick. 

"Um.. right..."

Fluttershy took a long pause before continuing.

"You see... It's you."

"Wait, what?" Rainbow said with a confused look.

Fluttershy paused again. This pause was a bit shorter.

"It's you. There, I said it." Fluttershy looked down with a slight blush on her face.

Rainbow Dash was lost in thought  and just stared straight into the room. 'Why me... why just me?' The only thought that was in her head. She slowly shook her head.

"No." It was the only thing she could say.

"Please Dashie. Don't hate me."

"Why me?"

Fluttershy looked at her love a bit confused.

"Why me Fluttershy?!"

"You have always been there for me, you are my best friend and... I think you are beautiful." Fluttershy said with a low tone.

"No Fluttershy. Don't do this. You... I..." Rainbow said quickly and crawled back. She fell out of the bed.

Rainbow Dash quickly stood up and walked toward the door. Fluttershy quickly stood up and ran in front of her cyan friend, blocking her.

"Please Rainbow, don't go." Fluttershy pleaded.

"I don't deserve you. You and me...I will only cause you pain. Please don't make this harder."

Fluttershy started crying. Rainbow tried to run around her but Fluttershy managed to block her. Rainbow looked around, seeing another escape route. She quickly turned around and ran towards the open window. She jumped out and started flapping her wings. She hovered outside and turned her head around to see Fluttershy standing in the window.

"See you back in Ponyville." Rainbow said quickly before shooting off towards the sky.

"Dashie wait!" Fluttershy shouted behind her with tears in her eyes. 

Rainbow flew as fast as she could away from Canterlot and it didn't take long before she was above the open fields just outside the city. She decided to take a detour over the Everfree to get some time to think. She started to fly slower.

Fluttershy had made her way to the train station and she meet up with Twilight who looked quite happy. Twilight looked over towards Fluttershy as she got closer and saw a very sad face. 

"What happen to you? Where's Rainbow Dash?"

"She flew off towards Ponyville."

"Why?"

"I told her I love her... she said something about that she didn't deserve me... and that she would only cause me pain." Fluttershy started to cry.

"I'm so sorry...Rainbow Dash probably only need some time." 

Fluttershy walked past Twilight and got on the train. Twilight followed her and they sat down. Non of them said a word for a long time. All Fluttershy thought of was Rainbow Dash.

Rainbow flew on, thinking. She could only think about the sad face of Fluttershy. Why did she do that to her. The rain started to fall but the cyan pegasus didn't care. The storm above her grew bigger and darker. She started to accelerate more and more. The air in front of her started to bend. She preformed her signature move and shot forward. It caused her mind to become blank. Giving her a moment of silence and peace.

A storm was building in the skies and the rain started to fall. Fluttershy looked out the window and saw the storm. It was massive and she saw a few flashes in the distance. The water ran down the windows. She started to worry about her friend. Suddenly a bright flash appeared over the forest, a rainbow. The sonic rainboom glowed bright in the dark storm and a bright rainbow trail shot forward. The trail continued over the forest and got almost halfway to Ponyville. Another flash appeared and hit the trail and suddenly, the trail curved down toward the forest below.

Fluttershy felt a sharp pain in her heart and felt her eyes water.

Chapter 4: Trapped alone

The pure speed of the sonic rainboom had cleared her mind for a minute and she noticed that she had travelled almost half the distance between Canterlot and Ponyville. She felt the raindrops hit her and it felt nice on her body. Suddenly a bright flash appeared in front of her eyes and everything got dark. 

Her body fell toward the forest below. The lightning strike had knocked her unconscious and burnt some of her body. The treetops got closer and closer. Lucky for Rainbow Dash, the leaves were thick and managed to slow her body enough to not kill her. She still hit the ground pretty hard, breaking one of her legs. 

After a few minutes, Rainbow woke up and felt the pain in her entire body. She looked around with her blurred vision and found herself in a small clearing in the woods. The feeling of blood caught her attention and she looked down, seeing her bloody forelegs. They had cuts all over them from the leaves and branches. She looked behind her and what she saw horrified her. Her left wing, both back legs and her tail had been burnt badly. She tried to stand up but was meet with pains from her front leg. Rainbow Dash could feel that it was broken and she avoided putting weight on it. She managed to stand up and she looked around. The part of forest she had crashed in was very thick and the trees stood tall. The rain was falling more than before and the lightning struck more and more. Rainbow saw the rain and lightning, but she couldn't hear it. She was deaf temporary. Her hearing started to return and she heard thunder all around her. 

"Fluttershy!" She shouted, but nothing was heard. "Anypony?!"

The only sound that returned to her was the rain hitting the leaves above and the thunder. The flashes lit the forest up but it got dark almost immediately.
She knew which way it was to Ponyville, but it was impossible to navigate at the moment. She didn't know which way was north or south. The sun was completely blocked from the ground. The only thing above her was the storm. The wind started to increase and the trees began to sway. Rainbow heard cracking from a few trees around her and knew it wasn't that safe where she was. She quickly looked around for any sort of cover from the storm.

Rainbow Dash saw a small hole in the side of a cliff behind a bush. Rainbow Dash decided that it would be good enough for the moment and walked to it. She wasn't used to walking with only three legs. She struggled against the wind and managed to get to the hole. The hole was just a bit bigger than her and she crawled inside. It was just in time, as one of the trees fell down where she stood before. The tree cracked when it hit the ground and splinters flew away in the wind. Rainbow crawled quickly inside the hole and covered most of the entrance with the bush. The wind blew stronger than before and a bright flash appeared close to Rainbow and she saw a tree split in half. The tree was burnt and she didn't feel very safe in her spot, but it was the most safe place to be in this storm at the moment. She laid closer to the wall and looked out as the rain kept falling.
Rainbow Dash started to feel lonely and wanted one of her friends there with her. She had never been this scared over a bit of weather before and she shook each time the lightning struck. The thunder brought pain to her mind each time the sky was lit up. She started to think about her friends, Fluttershy to be exact.
'My best friend loves me...' The thought scared her a bit. 'Why does she love me?' She remembered the conversation between them at the hotel. 'Why did I do that to her?' She felt guilty for making Fluttershy cry. The guilt built up inside her and the pain in her body got worse. A few tears ran down her cheeks.

The lightning struck really close to her and she wasn't prepared for what happen next. The cracking noise worried her and suddenly a big tree fell in front of the entrance, blocking her only way out. Rainbow Dash started to panic and tried to push the tree away. The pain from her leg was draining her on strength. The tree wouldn't move and she felt hopeless. She tried to push again with both fear, pain and determination. The same result as before. She was stuck. The tree was blocking almost everything of the entrance, except a small part at the top. It was to small to crawl through. She laid down with tears in her eyes. 'Is this how it must end?' was the only thought in her head. She looked through the opening and saw the thunder storm outside, no sign of ending soon. She felt hopeless.

Time passed, lightning lit the forest and the rain kept falling. Rainbow was still trapped behind the tree and had no means of escape. The lightning kept hitting close to her and for every strike, the forest lit up. The pain in her body and mind got worse for every moment that passed. Another strike hit just outside her prison. A loud sound was heard outside and the tree blocking the entrance moved. It moved just enough for Rainbow Dash to escape. She crawled forward and looked out. Another tree had fallen and moved the other one. She quickly crawled out and tried to stand up. The wind was stronger than before and it was hard for Rainbow to stand. She looked around for something else to hide under. Nothing at the area was safe enough to hide from the weather. Her only option was to try finding another place to wait out the weather somewhere else. But the weather cause to much difficulties. The rain started to sting against her burnt wing and legs but she tried to blocked the pain. She took cover next to a rock to block the wind. Rainbow Dash felt tired and her wing and legs ached badly as she laid down. 'I will only cause you pain...' Her own word was true. She had cause Fluttershy pain by leaving her. What is she going to do? She had hurt her friend and herself. Her eyes got heavier and she slowly fell asleep. "Fluttershy..." Rainbow cried out before she fell asleep.

Meanwhile

Fluttershy had arrived in Ponyville before the storm hit. She was staying at Twilight's house, since she wouldn't make it home before the storm. Fluttershy sat next to the window on the top floor and stared outside toward the Everfree Forest. Twilight walked up to her and looked outside. She put a hoof on Fluttershy's shoulder.

"It's going to be okay Fluttershy."

"H-how can you say that?" Fluttershy's voice was low and it had both fear and sorrow in it.

Twilight felt ashamed when the crying pegasus looked at her. She didn't know what to say and tried to think about an answer.

"I'm sure Rainbow's alive and trying to get back." 

Fluttershy tuned back to the window and continued the staring and crying. Twilight heard her friend sob and walked away. Fluttershy put a hoof on the window and whispered Rainbow Dash's name. The window felt cold and she pulled her hoof back, still crying. The lightning struck the ground over and over. For every time the lighting struck, a small squeak of pain came from Fluttershy. The thunder brought back memories from when her friend left her. She looked away from the window and laid down on the floor. She put her head between her hooves and the tears kept coming. A small puddle formed under her. Twilight entered the room with a small meal for her crying friend. She put it down in front of Fluttershy and stepped back. 

"Here Fluttershy, I brought you something to eat."

"Please Twilight... I-I want t-to be alone." Fluttershy was still hiding her face.

"Fluttershy, you have to eat something. You haven't eaten anything since we left Canterlot."

"I want to be alone!" Fluttershy's muffled voice was barely heard.

"I am not leaving before you eat Fluttershy." 

A small pause came upon them and Twilight looked at her friend with a sad look.

"Look Fluttershy, I know how you feel, but you..." Twilight was cut off by her friend.

"How can you ever know how I feel Twilight?" Fluttershy was looking at Twilight with an angry and sad look.

"I...I...I'm sorry Fluttershy."

"You will never know how I feel." Fluttershy was standing up and had an angry expression on her face. She slowly walked toward Twilight. "Have you ever lost someone you loved? You will never feel the pain I'm in right now."

Twilight had never seen Fluttershy this angry and she crouched down when Fluttershy came close. Her wings was fully extended and Twilight was scared of what would happen next. Fluttershy shouted angry.

"What is it Twilight? Are you scared of little shy, harmless Fluttershy?"

"Please Fluttershy... I didn't mean..." Fluttershy cut her of again.

"Didn't mean what? You didn't mean for Rainbow Dash to crash to her death? For all you know, Rainbow Dash is dead and I will never see her again! I that what you didn't mean to happen?" Her voice was louder and Twilight was lying down on the floor.

"I'm sorry Fluttershy... I'm so sorry..."

"Ooh, you're sorry?! You have nothing to be sorry about. I am the one who lost my love! My one and only love!" Fluttershy was shouting at the purple unicorn.

"Fluttershy, please stop. You're scaring me." Twilight's voice was quiet and weak of fear.

"You're scared? How do think I feel? Why don't you just leave me alone Twilight!" Fluttershy said as she slammed a hoof into the ground. "Just leave me alone!!"

"Fluttershy... please let me..."

"LEAVE. ME. ALONE!!" Fluttershy's scream was filled with anger and hatred.

Twilight nodded and slowly crawled out of the room. She had never been scared of Fluttershy like this. What happened to her, when did she become like this? Twilight closed the door behind her and left Fluttershy alone. 
Fluttershy was still angry and looked at the food Twilight had brought her. She quickly came back to her normal self. What had she done? She had made her love leave and caused her friend to fear her. She laid down and started to cry. "Why is this happening to me?" She cried out and laid her head between her hooves and let the tears flow. "Rainbow Dash..." Fluttershy cried out, looking out the window.

> Chapter 5: Near death

Chapter 5: Near death

Rainbow Dash was lying against the rock and slept through the storm. The lightning kept on striking the ground and the wind kept increasing in strength. Her body was completely soaked from the rain, her mane was dirty from mud and twigs. She slowly woke up and her vision was blurred. She felt weak and her body hurt. She opened her eyes fully and tried to look around but her vision was to blurred for her to see. She felt the rain hit her and she realised how cold she was. Her body shivered as she felt the water run down her body. 'How long have I been asleep?' Her thoughts gathered and slowly, her vision recovered. She saw the storm, still raging on above her. She tried to stand up, but her legs were weak and couldn't support her weight. She felt her body weaken for every moment that passed. Rainbow tried her best to get up on her hooves and she slowly got up and leaned against the rock and looked around. She felt extremely weak and the only thing she wanted now, was to be in Ponyville with her friends. She couldn't do anything until the storm had passed and she looked around for better cover. 

She saw a few bushes close together and she started to walk towards them. She had forgotten about her broken leg and quickly remembered when she took a step and her whole leg ached and collapsed under her. She managed to recover and stood up again but the pain was still surging through her. She made her way to the bushes and laid down between them. They offered a good wind protection and a bit protection from the rain. She laid there for a really long time, without a single thought in her head. After two hours in the bush, Rainbow Dash saw the sunlight hit the ground. She looked up and saw that the storm was fading.

She noticed that the sun was rising and she realised that a whole day had passed. The sun felt really nice on her cold body when she stepped into it. She felt warmth fill her and she felt some energy come back. The rain had stopped falling a few minutes earlier. She looked around and thought about which direction she should go. She thought about which way the sun was at when she crashed. She turned and faced the same direction as before and started walking. She hoped that it was the correct direction. Her walking speed was a bit slower than normal since she had broken her leg. She thought about Fluttershy, about all her friends. 'They must be worried  about me...' she thought as something else hit her like a wall, 'Fluttershy probably thinks I'm dead. I wonder how she's doing.' Rainbow Dash kept on walking, looking out for any dangers in her path. She felt a bit stronger than before but the pains kept aching in her body. 

After a few hours, Rainbow was exhausted and lied down next to a tree. Her body was screaming at her for rest. She closed her eyes but opened them quickly. She realised that she couldn't waste more time with sleep. She rested for a few minutes and stood up again. She felt a bit stronger and started walking once more. She walked slower than before to save strength. A shadow moved quickly across the ground. She looked up to see what caused it. She saw nothing above her and she started walking again, slower. The shadow crossed the ground again. She quickly looked up ans saw a pegasus fly high in the air. She realised that they were looking for her. Rainbow Dash opened her mouth to scream but nothing came out. Her voice had failed her in her time of need. The pegasus in the sky flew away and she was alone again. The feeling of hopeless fell upon her again. After a minute the pegasus came back, flying slowly this time. Rainbow waved as good as she could but it was unnoticed. After this, Rainbow was alone. No other pegasus flew across the sky. Rainbow started to walk again, weak and lonely. Her vision blurred and she felt weaker and weaker for every step. Suddenly Rainbow collapsed onto the ground. Her vision became black. 



Fluttershy was sitting in the same room, refusing to come out, still looking out the window. Twilight had sent out search parties to look for Rainbow Dash. Fluttershy had seen them fly away. She was still crying for her friend and suddenly Twilight knocked on the door.

"Go away, I want to be alone." Fluttershy cried.

"Fluttershy, please. I have to talk to you."

"W-why?"

"It's about Rainbow Dash."

Fluttershy looked up and turned her head to the door. She was filled with hope again and quickly walked to the door. She opened the door and looked at Twilight.

"What did you say Twilight?"

"I got news about Rainbow dash."

Fluttershy's sad face quickly grew happier and Twilight saw that her friend was expecting something good.

"I got some... bad news."

Fluttershy's happy mood disappeared when she heard Twilight.

"B-bad news?" Fluttershy stuttered.

"The search parties found something... where Rainbow crashed."

"What is it?"

"They found blood and blue feathers..."

"W-what?" Fluttershy couldn't keep the tears in. 

"I think Rainbow Dash might had survived the crash and she's trying to get back here."

Fluttershy's tears kept coming and she tried to talk but nothing sounded. 

"There is also another thing..." Twilight walked to the elements of harmony. Fluttershy walked over as well and looked at them. Twilight continued.

"Rainbow's element is fading... it's losing colour."

"What does it mean, Twilight?"

Twilight took a small pause and turned to Fluttershy,

"It means that Rainbow Dash is dying...she's trying her best to keep alive, but she is losing the battle."

The news hit Fluttershy and she started crying again. Fluttershy wanted to run away and hide but her body was frozen. Fluttershy's legs collapsed under her and her body hit the ground, tears flowing down her cheeks. These tears was both of joy and sorrow. She was happy that Rainbow Dash was alive but she was sad that she was dying. The tears had formed a puddle on the ground under her. Twilight put a hoof on Fluttershy's back and she tried to comfort the crying pegasus.

"We are still looking for her Fluttershy. I'm sure that we will find her."

"T-thank you Twilight..." Fluttershy managed to say between tears.

"How are you feeling?"

"Better than before..."

"Fluttershy, you should probably go to our friends and tell them what had happen to Rainbow Dash."

"Okay Twilight...I will." Fluttershy agreed to the idea and felt it was the right thing to do.

"You don't need to tell them about how you feel for her, you only need to tell them what happened her."

Fluttershy stood up and wiped away the tears. She took a deep breath and started walking towards the door. She quickly turned her head and gave Twilight a smile before opening the door and walking out. Fluttershy started to walk to Sweet Apple Acres. 

Fluttershy walked to each of her friends and told them what had happened. The same reaction came from all of them. They cried when they heard the news and Rarity almost fainted. Every time she told what had happen to Rainbow Dash it got harder for her. She felt horrible. After a few minutes at each of her friends, and a few of Rainbow's friends, Fluttershy walked home. 
After a few minutes of walking, she arrived at her cottage. She fed her animals and walked upstairs. She laid down in her bed and let the tears flow free. Fluttershy couldn't hold it in any more.
Next to her bed was a picture of Rainbow Dash. It was signed by her as well. She got it at the young fliers competition. It helped her sleep at nights, seeing a friendly face right before she fell asleep. But at the moment, the picture only caused pain in her heart. Her blue love was missing and dying. 

"What am I going to do?" Fluttershy cried out, looking at the picture. She laid on the bed crying herself asleep.



Rainbow woke up a few minutes ago and had started walking. Rainbow Dash was struggling to keep walking. The moon was rising in the sky and she started to feel cold. Each step took more energy out of her but she wouldn't give up. She needed to get back. She looked down at her legs and saw the blood, still dripping out of the wounds. Her body hurt for every step she took and she knew she couldn't keep going for much longer. Her body was yelling at her to stop, but her head was pleading for her to continue walking. Her legs had caught an infection and was hurting almost all the time. Her walking pace was slow and she had tears in her eyes. She started to think about Fluttershy again. She thought about why she loved her. 'You have always been there for me, you are my best friend and... I think you are beautiful.' Fluttershy's words popped up and Rainbow thought about the last word. 'Beautiful... Fluttershy thinks I'm beautiful.' Rainbow Dash started to feel dizzy again and her legs collapsed under her. She looked around but could barely see. Her vision had blurred and she felt like her head was about to explode. She groaned of pain and put a hoof on the side of her head. Her vision became black and her mind filled with fear. "I'm sorry Flutters... I'm so sorry." Rainbow Dash whispered and felt tears run down her cheeks. 

When her vision returned and the pain gone away, she stood up on her weak legs. She started walking again, slowly and without a single though in her head. Rainbow Dash forced herself to keep walking. She managed to walk for another hour before she was to weak. She laid down in the grass and closed her eyes. She drifted asleep within minutes. Her pulse started to fall and her breathing became slower and slower. Rainbow's body was failing due to the infections and blood loss. The injuries was far to big to survive alone and without medical attention. She didn't have enough strength to keep going and when she fell asleep, it felt really nice to rest. 'You need to keep going Rainbow Dash!' a voice said to her in the dream. Rainbow recognised the voice but couldn't remember who it was. She looked around in the dream to try and locate the voice but was unsuccessful. 'You cannot rest now Rainbow Dash.' the voice was there again. She shouted but nothing sounded. 'Wake up... Fluttershy needs you.' the voice was further away and she started to wake up. 

Rainbow Dash's eyes shot open and she felt cold and wet. The moon was low in the sky again and the rain fell rapidly. She had slept for half a day, or night in this case. Her vision was blurred and grey, body ached. She looked around to try and find where the voice came from but couldn't see anything. She tried to stand up but her legs didn't respond. Tears started to fall down her cheeks and she forced herself onto her hooves. After a minute she managed to stand up. She started to walk again, in a slower speed than before. She walked for a long time, maybe an hour, maybe two. She couldn't tell how much time had passed but she kept walking. She felt pain rise in her body and she tried her best to ignore it. Rainbow Dash walked through the pain and after a few minutes, it started to fade away. The pain was worse than before and if it came back, she might not be able to ignore it. After a hour her body could take it any more and she collapsed. her vision became black. She had fainted again.

Chapter 6: Discovery

Fluttershy woke up to a bright room. The sun was quite high in the sky when she woke up and she yawned. She looked around and saw the picture of Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash's signature made Fluttershy cry and she felt horrible again. She laid in the bed for a few minutes before getting up and going to the bathroom. She took a quick shower and headed to the kitchen. She found a note at her door. Fluttershy took it and opened it. 'Hello Fluttershy. I'm sorry to say that the search have been called of. It's been to long and we will probably not find her. I am really sorry Fluttershy.    Twilight.' Fluttershy dropped the note and tears started to fall down her cheeks. She laid down and let the tears form a puddle. Fluttershy tried to stop crying and think of something. She felt lonely, her best friend was gone and probably dead. She needed something to take Rainbow Dash off her mind. 'Zecora might have something...' Fluttershy thought and she decided to go talk to her. She opened the door and started walking towards Zecora. She didn't care that the Everfree was scary and dangerous. She had no fears any more. She walked into the Everfree Forest and walked slow through the forest towards Zecora's hut.
Something caught Fluttershy's eyes. She saw something in the corner of her eye. She looked over and saw something red in a bush. Fluttershy walked slowly towards it and what she saw horrified her. The blue pegasus laid there in front of her, bloody and dirty. Rainbow's back legs and wing was badly burnt and her beautiful tail was half burnt off. The front legs were bloody and swollen, one of them were bend wrongly. Her mane was full of dirt and branches. Fluttershy dropped down and started crying. Her love was lying in front of her dead. Fluttershy moved closer and put a hoof on her cheek. It felt wet and was still a bit warm. 

"Rainbow?" Fluttershy tried to talk to her love.

Fluttershy picked up Rainbow Dash gently and started flying back to Ponyville. Rainbow Dash was really heavy and Fluttershy struggled to keep herself in the air. She flew faster than she ever had before, even with the extra weight in her arms. After only a minute, Fluttershy arrived in Ponyville and saw Twilight. She flew over to her with tears in her eyes.

"Twilight! Where is the hospital?"

"Why do you ask, Flutt...." Twilight gasped when she looked up and saw who Fluttershy held.

"Please Twilight, I need to take her to the hospital." Fluttershy was crying.

"What happened to her?" 

"Twilight... please!"

Twilight pointed in the direction of the hospital. Without a word, Fluttershy was gone. She flew as fast her body allowed. At this point she was exhausted and her wings hurt. She reached the hospital and blasted through the door. 

"Help! I need a doctor!" Fluttershy shouted.

"What is it?" a doctor asked when he ran over. He put a hoof over his mouth when he saw Rainbow Dash. He signalled for Fluttershy to follow him.
Fluttershy told the doctor everything she knew as they ran to a operating room. They arrived at the room and Fluttershy saw a big table. She put Rainbow on the table gently and sat down next to her.

"Please miss, you have to leave."

Fluttershy shook her head. The doctor repeated what he said and Fluttershy refused to leave. She didn't want to leave Rainbow Dash. Two nurses came in and grabbed her and started to pull her out of the room.. Fluttershy struggled to get back to Rainbow, but she was pulled out of the room. The door shut in front of her and her tears flowed heavily. Fluttershy was  She was put back in the waiting room and a nurse stayed with her to try and comfort her. Fluttershy kept on crying and after an hour, she finally stopped. She wanted to see her Dashie but the nurse stopped her from getting up.
After 4 hours, a doctor walked towards her. He had a serious face with a bit of happiness. Fluttershy looked at him as he came closer. He stopped in front of Fluttershy.

"We managed to stabilise her condition but she is in a coma. You can go see her now if you want."

"Thank you...thank you so much." Fluttershy said with a quiet voice.

Fluttershy stood up and followed the doctor. She was directed to a room at the end of the hallway and he opened the door. She looked inside. Fluttershy saw her friend lying in the hospital bed with tubes running into her body. She had many bandages on her body, but she looked really peaceful for what she had been through. The beeping from the machine next to the bed made Fluttershy feel happy. It showed that her friend was alive. She walked over and sat down next to her friend. The doctor closed the door and walked away. Fluttershy had tears of joy in her eyes. She put a hoof on Rainbows cheek and said softly,

"I love you Rainbow Dash. Please don't leave me alone."

Fluttershy put her face onto Rainbow's chest and felt the chest rise and fall for each breath. The feeling of her warm friend was really nice and she felt like she could sleep on Rainbow Dash. She stayed next to Rainbow Dash until the visiting time was over, late in the evening. She didn't want to leave her but she respected hospital rules and decided it was for the best. Fluttershy kissed Rainbow's cheek and went home for the night. The entire way back to her cottage, she only thought about Rainbow Dash.
The next morning, Fluttershy was waiting in the waiting room to visit her friend. She wanted to be there when Rainbow Dash woke up. Fluttershy sat next to Rainbow Dash for the whole day, talking to her, making sure she wasn't alone. For every hour, Fluttershy sat next to her. She found comfort in talking to her love who laid peacefully on the bed. She thought that if someone talked to her, she would wake up. She didn't leave the hospital this night and slept inside the waiting room.
The next day, Fluttershy was yet again waiting in Rainbow's room. She felt tired and sat down in a chair in the corner of the room. She just sat there and looked at her love. The beeping continued and nothing else was heard. Fluttershy's eyes became heavy and she drifted asleep. She didn't get any sleep the night before and was really tired.
Fluttershy woke up an hour later and looked up. She saw some movement in the room. She looked at the bed and saw that Rainbow Dash moved her head. She had finally woken up from the coma. 

"Rainbow Dash?"

Chapter 7: Death

'Is this it? Is this the end for Rainbow Dash? What was she going to tell me?' the voice in Fluttershy's head echoed. She got back to reality and looked around. She was in another room in the hospital. She couldn't see Rainbow Dash in the room and she feared the worst. She stood up and walked to the door, opening it gently. She took a step out the door and looked around in the hallway. She saw one of the nurses that came in when Rainbow Dash died. She was walking towards Fluttershy and had a sad look on her face. 

"Fluttershy, is it? I was just about to get you."

"Where's Rainbow Dash? What happened to her??"

"She's in the same room as before, and we have managed to stabilize her condition, but we fear she might not have much time left. She asked to talk to you right away."

The nurse gestured for Fluttershy to follow her and they walked to Rainbow's room. The nurse opened the door for Fluttershy and she took a few steps into the room. The nurse closed the door gently behind her when she left and Fluttershy looked over to the bed. Rainbow Dash laid there, tears running down her cheeks. Fluttershy walked slowly towards the side of Rainbow Dash's bed. Rainbow looked at her with a weak look, trying not to cry.

"Hey Fluttershy..."

"How are you feeling Rainbow?"

"I've been better."

"I'm so glad you're alive Dashie. I was so scared before."

"I need to tell you something Fluttershy."

"What is it?"

"I... love you Fluttershy."

"Really? You really love me?" Fluttershy couldn't hold her tears back.

Rainbow Dash nodded slowly with a smile. Happiness overwhelmed Fluttershy and she leaned in and kissed Rainbow. Rainbow Dash had never thought that Fluttershy liked mares but she liked what was happening at the moment. The pink mane tickled Rainbow's face but she didn't mind it at all, she was to lost in the kiss. Fluttershy's cheeks became red as they pulled deeper into the kiss. After a minute, Fluttershy pulled away from the kiss and saw an even happier smile on Rainbow. Dash began to talk with her weak voice.

"Fluttershy?"

"Yes Dashie?"

"How long have you... loved me?"

"Longer than I can remember. I have felt something about you, but I didn't know what it was."

"Then... why haven't you told me about this before?" Rainbow Dash had a slightly confused look on her face.

"I was scared... I thought you wouldn't like me back." Fluttershy said as she looked down at the floor. A pause came between them and it lasted a minute before Rainbow's weak voice broke the silence in the room.

"Fluttershy I'm scared."

"Scared of what?"

"I'm scared of dying, to not be able to see you any more... to not be able to be with you."

"Don't think like that. You will be okay..."

"But I wont be okay Flutters." More tears ran down Rainbow's cheeks.

"No Dashie, don't say that. I know you will be okay."

"Fluttershy... I feel tired." Rainbow Dash was sounding weaker than before.

"Please Dash, stay with me."

"Fluttershy... there is something you should know about... It's in my cupboard next to my bed."

"What is it?"

"It's meant for you... after I'm gone, please look there..."

"Dashie... don't say that, you can show me, just stay with me." Fluttershy's eyes were filled with tears.

"I... love you Flutters."

"Dashie... don't die... I need you."

"And I need you to... be brave for me." The weak voice was getting quieter.

The beeping started to slow down. This was Fluttershy's worst fear, she was loosing her true love. Rainbow Dash was losing the fight for her life.

"Dash, don't die... please stay with me..."

"Please Flutters... be brave..."

"Don't go Dashie... please don't go... I need you Rainbow..." Fluttershy said between tears and sobs.

"I-I...love... y-you......."

Rainbow Dash closed her eyes slowly and a single tone came from the machines. Rainbow Dash was dead. 

"Dashie.... Please wake up! Don't leave me!" Fluttershy shouted at her, "P-please Dashie.... Don't... go..." She put her head against Rainbow's chest.

Rainbow Dash's chest had stopped moving and her eyes shut. The single tone from the machine stopped and everything was silent. Fluttershy put her head against Rainbow's chest and let the tears flow. 

"Why did you have to go Dashie? Why did you leave me?"

Fluttershy planted a small kiss on Rainbow's still warm lips and closed her eyes. She laid her head against Rainbow Dash's head. She hummed her lullaby to Rainbow's ears, hoping it made it through to her. 

"Bye Rainbow Dash..."

Chapter 8: Awakening

Fluttershy sat next to Rainbow Dash, tears running down her cheeks. It had been a minute since she died and Fluttershy was still crying for her fallen friend. She heard a muffled sound in the distance. Fluttershy looked up and turned her head to try and locate the sound. She didn't see anything in the room. The same sound again, but this time a little bit louder, just loud enough to hear and it was a voice.

"Fluttershy, wake up!"

The voice was coming from in front of her but nothing was there, except Rainbow Dash. She looked towards Rainbow to see if the voice was coming from her.

"Fluttershy!! Wake up!"

Rainbow shouted at her but she didn't move her lips, she didn't even move. Fluttershy backed away from her, fearing what was going on. Fluttershy started shaking violently, and the voice shouted again. Her eyes shot open and Rainbow Dash was right above her, shaking her. Fluttershy looked around and saw that they were in the hotel room that they were in before the accident. She felt that her cheeks and pillow were wet.

"What's going on? What happen?" Fluttershy mumbled with a quiet voice.

"You were crying and mumbling my name over and over. I got scared and woke you up."

"B-but you died... You died right in front of me. H-how can you be here?"

"What are you talking about Flutters?"

"You got hurt and was dying...and you were in the hospital and died right in front of me."

"I have been right here all night, right next to you."

"But you died..." Fluttershy was cut off by Rainbow Dash.

"Fluttershy, I'm not dead. It was probably just a bad dream."

"But it felt so real."

Fluttershy felt Rainbow put her arms around her, pulling her into a hug. She looked up at Rainbow and saw her smiling face. She felt a hoof stroke her back. Fluttershy leaned her head against Rainbow's shoulder and relaxed. 

"There's nothing to worry about. I'm here for you, it was only a dream."

"Thank you Rainbow. I'm glad you are okay."

Rainbow Dash let go off her friend and got out of the bed. Fluttershy looked towards the window. She was more relaxed than before and had stopped crying. Rainbow walked to the bathroom while Fluttershy sat in the bed, looking out the window. The skies were bright blue with a few clouds high up. It was a beautiful day and the wind blew gently through the open window. Fluttershy got out of the bed and walked over to the window, and leaned outside. The wind was refreshing as it blew through her mane. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths. She stood there for a few minutes in silence, enjoying the wind and sun.

"Fluttershy?"

"Yes?" she turned to faced Rainbow, who was standing next to the bed.

"Remember yesterday, you were going to tell me your little secret." Rainbow said with a curious voice.

"Oh... right. Please don't run away."

"Why would I run away?"

"Um... never mind." Fluttershy took a deep breath, "I love you Rainbow Dash!" Fluttershy blurred out.

"Um... what did you just say?"

"I love you." she said slowly.

"Wait a minute. You love me? How long have you felt this way?"

"For a few years now..."

"Why haven't you told me before?"

"I was scared that you wouldn't feel the same way..."

"Scared?" Rainbow said with a slight confusion.

Fluttershy looked down and tried to hide her face with the pink mane. She nodded slightly and silence fell upon them, the only sound was the birds outside. A few moments later, Fluttershy spoke again.

"Rainbow?"

"What is it Fluttershy?"

"Would y-you like to go out on a... date...with me?" Fluttershy stuttered with a quiet voice.

"A date?" Rainbow's voice got a little fear in it and took a step back.

"What's wrong?"

"I haven't been on a date with a mare before. Also, you're my best friend."

"Oh... I understand." she said as she looked down, "You don't have to, I'll be fine."

"Please don't be sad. Fine... I'll go on a date with you, if it will make you happy."

"Really? You will?" Fluttershy said happily as she launched forward and wrapped her arms around Rainbow. "Thank you Dashie!"

Rainbow didn't have time to react before her friend tackled her with the hug. She nearly lost her balance but managed to recover before they fell. 'My best friend and me are going on a date...' was the only thought that was in her head.

Chapter 9: The date


"You can let go now Fluttershy. It's getting hard to breath."

"Sorry. I didn't mean to hug you that hard." Fluttershy let go of Rainbow and took a step back.

"It's okay. About the date... can you promise me that you keep it a secret for a while."

"Why?"

"I don't want our friends knowing, they might get the wrong idea about us."

"Oh... sure, I'll keep it a secret." Fluttershy gave Dash a happy smile, "When does the train leave?"

"Um, in an hour."

"Should we go to the station now, or wait for a bit?"

"We can go now and get something to eat before the train leaves."

"Sure." 

They got their things and walked to the door, Rainbow walked first and held the door open. They both were smiling as they walked out the hotel. The warm sun felt good as they stepped outside, they looked around to find a cafe. They saw a small cafe down the street and started walking towards it. Fluttershy slowly leaned against Rainbow Dash's side as they walked down the street towards the cafe. Rainbow looked at Fluttershy when she felt Fluttershy lean against her side and the yellow pegasus took a step to the side. Rainbow chuckled and walked closer to her.

"It's okay Flutters."

"Are you sure?"

Rainbow nodded and Fluttershy got a happy smile formed on face. She leaned against Rainbow's side and felt the warm fur. She enjoyed the feeling of Rainbow Dash at her side. They got to the cafe and walked in. They ordered some sandwiches and sat down next to a window. They sat on opposite sides of the table and ate their food. Both of them had been quiet for a while before Fluttershy broke their silence.

"Are you sure you're okay with this?"

"Well... it's a little weird since you are my best friend, but otherwise, I'm okay with it."

"Thank you Rainbow. There is something you should know."

"What is it Flutters?"

"I've been wanting to ask you out before... but I was never brave enough."

"Flutters, you're the bravest pony I know, you faced a dragon and you wasn't scared at all. Also, you managed to tell me at the hotel, right?"

"Right, thank you Dashie."

"Don't worry about it." Rainbow took a small pause before continuing, "We should go to train station."

Fluttershy nodded and they started their walk to the train station. Once they was outside, Fluttershy leaned against Rainbow again. She looked up at Rainbow's face and saw her smiling. They walked in silence down the street. It was a calm day and it wasn't many ponies out on the streets. Most of the sound were coming from the birds in the trees. Suddenly, Rainbow took a step to the side and almost caused Fluttershy to fall. 

"What was that for Rainbow?"

"Twilight is over there, and I don't anypony knowing about us yet." Rainbow whispered.

"Oh right. But you want them to know later?"

"If we keep going out, we will tell them sooner or later."

They walked up behind Twilight, who was reading another book while she waited for the train. Rainbow started to fly slowly and silently up and over Twilight. She dropped down in front of her and yelled, which caused Twilight to jump back and drop her book. Rainbow started to laugh and Fluttershy tried to hide her laughs with her hoof. Twilight looked at them with a angry and surprised look.

"Why did you do that?"

"Are you okay Twilight?" Fluttershy asked as she laughed a bit.

"She made me drop my book!" 

"Sorry Twi, I didn't mean to scare you that much." Rainbow was still laughing.

"Well you did." Twilight sounded angry.

"I'm sorry, okay? Geez, all this because of a book?"

"It's a very important book, alright? It's important for my studies."

"What is it about?" Fluttershy asked before Rainbow could say anything else.

"Advance magical spells." Twilight said as she picked up the book with her magic.

"We'll leave you alone then, right Rainbow Dash?" Fluttershy looked at Rainbow with a stern look.

"Sure, we will leave you to your books."

"Thank you. So... how was your visit to Canterlot?"

"It was really fun. I think both of us agree on that." Rainbow said happily.

Fluttershy nodded with a smile. The train arrived just a few moments later and stepped on. Rainbow and Fluttershy walked towards the back, whilst Twilight Sparkle sat down near the front of the train cart. Rainbow Dash sat down next to Fluttershy, who was already sitting down and looking out the window. She sat in silence and felt the train shake a little as it departed. Rainbow looked up at the ceiling and leaned against the back of the seat. She closed her eyes and relaxed. Fluttershy sat and looked at the blue sky and some of the bird flying outside. Once the birds were out of sight, she looked over towards Rainbow and saw that she had her eyes closed, and she wondered if she was sleeping. She moved closer and leaned gently against the blue body. Rainbow's soft fur was really comfortable and she leaned a little more. She relaxed and put her head against Rainbow Dash's shoulder. 

"Your fur is really soft Rainbow." she said with a relaxed voice.

"It is?"

Fluttershy mumbled something as she snuggled into the rainbow colored mane.

"Are you falling asleep Flutters?"

"Yes..."

"Do you mind sleeping on the seat instead of me?"

Fluttershy didn't respond to the question. She had already fallen asleep on Rainbow's shoulder and Rainbow slowly moved into a better position, without disturbing Fluttershy to much. The train moved fast along the land and Fluttershy slept on, or at least Rainbow thought she did. During most of the trip home to Ponyville, Fluttershy had been awake and enjoyed the soft mane and fur. After half an hour, the train started to slow down as they neared the station in Ponyville.

"Fluttershy, it's time to wake up." Rainbow whispered gently to Fluttershy.

Fluttershy let out a fake yawn as she sat up in the seat. She looked at Rainbow and saw that she had made her mane messy. 

"I'm sorry Rainbow."

"Sorry about what? You being sleepy?"

"About your mane, it's all messy."

"Don't worry about it. I don't mind it being like this."

"Was it okay that I slept on you?"

"Sure, you weren't any trouble."

The train stopped and they stood up. After they walked off the train cart, they flew together towards Rainbow's house. They flew at a slow pace and made it half way before Rainbow spoke.

"So Fluttershy, where are we going on our date?"

"I have an idea, but it's a secret. I'll come over tomorrow and get you, okay?"

"Sure Flutters. When will you come over?"

"I'll come at two in the afternoon."

"Okay, see you later then."

They separated and Fluttershy started to fly away, towards her cottage. She was thinking her plans for tomorrow and she was quite happy about them. She flew a bit faster and enjoyed the wind in her mane. She arrived at her home in less than a minute and saw three ponies in front of her cottage. She landed and saw that it was Sweetie Belle, Scootaloo and Apple Bloom. They sat at the front door, talking to each other, but got quiet when Fluttershy came close.

"Hey girls, why are you here?" Fluttershy asked in a sweet tone.

"Hello Fluttershy, Applejack sent us. She needs you to check on Winona." Sweetie said.

"Oh, what happened?"

"We don't know, we think she is sick but AJ wants you to take a look at her, to see if she will be okay." 

"Sure, let me just get inside and drop my things."

"See ya later then!" Apple Bloom said as they ran off.

"Bye!" Fluttershy shouted back to them and waved.

Fluttershy turned back and opened the door. She was greeted by some of her animals and they seemed really happy to see her. She walked inside and closed the door. She walked upstairs to the bathroom and took a quick shower. After that she walked to her bedroom and laid down in the bed on her back. She looked up at the ceiling and relaxed, thinking about tomorrow.

The rest of the day passed, Fluttershy had checked on Winona and it was nothing bad. Winona was just a little sick, and it caused her to be very tired. Fluttershy had visited Sugar Cube Corner after that and tried some new cupcakes, that Pinkie Pie had baked. Rainbow had done her weather duties and rested on a cloud for the rest of the day. The sun was about to set in the horizon and she flew home. The night was silent and the sky was full of stars. Every pony was sleeping and the night passed by.

The sun rose above the horizon and Fluttershy was walking towards town. She was going to the spa, for hers and Rarity's weekly spa days. The sun was warm as it hit her body and the birds sang in the tree. The day was beautiful and the only thing on her mind was her date Rainbow Dash. After a few minutes walk, she arrived at the spa and opened the front door.

"It's not usual for you to be late Fluttershy." Rarity said when Fluttershy stepped inside.

"I'm sorry. I didn't realize I was late."

"Nothing to be sorry about. Now, there's so much i have to tell you." 

They got their spa treatment, and Rarity talked about new fashion ideas, gossip and other thing that had happen during the last couple of weeks. Fluttershy tried to keep up in the conversation but sometimes got confused. After a few minutes of talking, Rarity asked,

"So, do you got any plans for today?"

"Oh, nothing special. I'm just going on a date." 

"Oh my darling, that is just fantastic. Who are you going out with, and for how long?"

"This is the first date."

"Who is the lucky stallion?" Rarity asked curiously.

"Um... It's a mare... and," Fluttershy remembered what Rainbow had said before, 'I don't want our friends knowing, they might get the wrong idea about us.' "I prefer to keep it a secret, if you don't mind."

"Oh, okay. I understand completely, and you don't need to tell me. But I want to meet this mare sometime in the future."

"Thank you Rarity."

"One more question. What will you wear on your date?"

"Nothing special. Just a dress I have."

"If you want, I can make you a new dress."

"You don't need to, mine is good. You made it a couple of months back."

"They blue and green one?"

"Yes, that one. I thought it would be perfect for this occasion."

"Well, you'll look great in it."

"You made it after all, so I know it will look good."

After their spa treatment, they separated and walked to their homes. It was almost time to go to Rainbow Dash's house and she hurried home. She got dressed and fed her animals before flying off towards Rainbow's house. The flight took a few minutes and Fluttershy made sure not to be seen by her friends. She arrived at the door and gently knocked. After a few seconds, the door opened. Once Rainbow Dash saw Fluttershy, her jaw dropped and she stared at her with big eyes. 

"Wow, you look amazing Flutters."

"Thank you Dashie. You ready to go?"

"Sure, just give me a minute."

"Mind if i come inside?"

"Not at all." Rainbow stepped aside and let Fluttershy walk past.

Fluttershy walked to the kitchen and sat down while Rainbow got ready. She looked at the clock and saw that she was half an hour early. Fluttershy heard Rainbow in the bedroom, 

"Don't you think you're a little overdressed?"

"Is there something wrong with my dress? Don't you like it?"

"No no, I really like your dress, but I didn't expect you wearing something like that."

Rainbow came out of the bedroom and walked to Fluttershy.

"Ready to go, now where are we going?" Rainbow asked curiously.

"First we're going to see a movie I  think you will like." 

They flew towards town and after a few minutes, they landed in front of the cinema. They walked inside and Fluttershy showed the staff their tickets and they bought some snacks. They walked inside the movie room and sat down in their seats. A few other ponies came into the room and sat down. After a minute the movie started and the room became dark. Fluttershy relaxed on Rainbow shoulder and snuggled into her mane. The movie was an action movie and Fluttershy had picked it for Rainbow. She took the opportunity to snuggle in Rainbow's mane. The movie lasted for an hour.

"The movie's over Flutters, you can stop hiding."

"Yes, I know." Fluttershy stopped snuggling Rainbow's mane.

"What should we do next?"

"I was thinking about eating something."

"Okay, show the way." Dash smiled at her and they walked out of the cinema.

They walked down the street next to each other, Rainbow talking about the movie. Fluttershy listen on and made a few comments sometimes. After a few minutes walk, they arrived at the restaurant. Fluttershy walked first through the door, with Rainbow Dash right behind her. They were greeted by the staff, who directed them to a secluded table. They sat down next to each other and made their order. Fluttershy looked at Rainbow and saw that she was very nervous.

"You okay Dashie?"

"Yes... sure is..."

"You seem nervous."

"Of course I'm nervous, I don't want to do something bad in front of you."

"Relax Rainbow, I love you for who you are, not what you do." Fluttershy leaned gently against Rainbow's side.

"Thank you Flutters." Rainbow said a little less nervous.

Their food arrived a little while later. Once they were alone, they started eating and Rainbow tried her best at eating "fancy". They ate slowly and talked about thing that had happen the day before. Rainbow had relaxed even more and wasn't that nervous anymore. Fluttershy finished her food after Rainbow had and they ordered dessert. Fluttershy was still leaning against Rainbow's side, but Rainbow didn't care that much. After a few minutes, their ice cream desserts arrived.

"I had a good time today." Fluttershy said with a quiet and relaxed tone

"Me too, but don't you think this restaurant is a bit expensive?"

"No, I got enough money for this."

"Are you sure? I can pay half if you want."

"No, no. I'll pay for this."

"Okay, if you say so."

Rainbow picked up her bowl of ice cream and started eating it slowly, saving the flavors. Fluttershy picked up hers and ate a little before putting it back on the table. Suddenly, a loud noise from the kitchen startled Rainbow and made her drop her bowl. She tried to catch it but it fell on the seat and the ice cream landed on Fluttershy's dress. Without thinking, Rainbow stood up and looked for something to clean her dress. When she stood up she bumped into the table and Fluttershy's bowl, along with their drinks fell, spilling some of it on Fluttershy's dress. Fluttershy got a sad look on her face as she looked at the dress.

"I'm so, so sorry Flutters, I didn't mean for any of this to happen."

"It's okay." Fluttershy said with a sad tone and looked at the mess and then at Rainbow.

"I'll just go, before I cause more damage." Rainbow walked away before Fluttershy had time to speak. 

Fluttershy stood up and walked after her. 

"Dashie wait!" Fluttershy yelled after her.

Rainbow stopped and turned around, seeing Fluttershy running towards her. She stopped in front of her. All the ponies looked at them, wondering what was going on.

"What is it Fluttershy?"

"Don't leave me." 

Before Rainbow could do anything else, Fluttershy placed her lips against Rainbow's. She wrapped her front legs around Rainbows neck and closed her eyes. Every pony in the restaurant let out an awe and at the sight. Rainbow stared at Fluttershy with wide eyes but slowly closed her eyes, leaning deeper into the kiss. After a long kiss, Fluttershy separated and looked into Rainbow's magenta eyes.

"I love you Rainbow Dash."

"I love you too."

Chapter 8: Reunion

The sun shined bright over Equestria and a few clouds flew high in the sky. Fluttershy looked up at the clouds, which moved slowly across the blue sky. She sat next to Rainbow's grave, a single tear running down her cheek. These visits to Rainbow's grave had become more and more easy for her. It had been just over a month and a half since Rainbow Dash died and she had been coming to the grave every forth day, placing new flowers and removing the old from the grave. She closed her eyes and thought about all the good memories of them. After a few minutes, she stood up and started walking home. She walked at a slow pace, slowly making her way back to her cottage.
She arrived at her cottage and opened the door, looking into the dark and empty house. All her animals had left after Rainbow Dash had died since she needed to be alone. Her steps echoed through the room as she stepped inside and she shut the door. She sat down at her table and looked down. She sat in silence, without any movement at all, for more than an hour. 
Knocking was heard from the door and Fluttershy looked up. She looked at the door as she heard a voice outside.

"Fluttershy? Are you in there darling?" Rarity asked with a slightly concerned voice.

Fluttershy sat in silence, not wanting to meet her friend at the moment.

"Come out Fluttershy, we're concerned about you!"

"Go away Rarity, I want to be alone!" Fluttershy shouted back.

"Please Fluttershy, I only want to talk to you." 

Fluttershy sat in silence, hoping that her friend would leave. After a minute or so, Rarity turned around and walked away. She realized that Fluttershy wouldn't come out of her house no matter what she tried. For every hour of the day, Fluttershy only sat inside her cottage, never coming out. For a whole month, she had been ignoring her friends, only going outside to get more food. Sometimes, her friends would come and try to talk to her, but all Fluttershy did was to tell them to go away. She had isolated herself and shut the world out.

A few hours later

'I am sorry for being mean to you all, and I'm really sorry for what has happen. Since I cannot live my normal life anymore, and see no hope for a better tomorrow, I have decided to end it here. I want you all to know that you were the best friends a pony could ever ask for. I am grateful for everything you have done for me and help me through. I couldn't had asked for better friends than you all. Goodbye all of you, I will miss you.' 

Fluttershy put down the pen on top of the paper and walked to the kitchen. She opened a drawer and took a sharp kitchen knife. A few tears ran down her cheeks as she walked to the living room and sat down. She lifted her left hoof and took the knife with her teeth. She slowly put the knife against her wrist and the metal was cold as it made contact with her skin. Her eyes watered and with a quick motion, she felt a sharp pain shoot through her. She dropped the knife and looked down. Blood flowed out of the cut and dropped down on the floor, creating a small puddle. she picked up the knife with her teeth and put it against her right wrist. The tears stung in her eyes as she moved the knife closer to the skin. She quickly cut the skin and dropped the knife. More blood formed on the floor. Her vision became blurred and she laid down, feeling her body becoming weaker for every passing second. Her heart started beating faster and harder. She heard knocking on the door and a voice.

"Fluttershy, we need to talk."

"Go... away!" Fluttershy coughed out.

"Fluttershy are you okay?"

Fluttershy began coughing and her vision became more and more grey.
The door opened and her friends walked in. All of them stopped when they saw Fluttershy. She was covered in blood and she was very pale. 

"What happened to you Fluttershy?" Rarity asked with fright in her voice

"Please... go away..." Fluttershy said as she coughed. Her breathing became slower as it became hard to breath.

"No Fluttershy, we have to get you to the hospital."

"No... I d-don't.... want to live."Fluttershy whispered as she closed her eyes. Her chest stopped rising and falling and her body relaxed. 

Fluttershy saw a bright light in the distance. She heard the muffled sounds of her friends. She started to walk towards the light and away from the voices, seeing something blue in the light. When she got closer she saw a rainbow mane and tail. She saw the happy smile of Rainbow Dash.
