> A Day in the Life of Ditzy Do > by Rainbow_Dash_14008 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Memories > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The mailbox of the last house on the route was finally filled with mail. The lid closed and the tired mailpony wiped sweat from her forehead. It had been a long day, and she couldn't wait to get home to her Husband and filly. She started flying to the post office drop off her uniform. Another pegasi flew up to her. "Hey Raindrops!" the mailpony greeted her. "Hey Derpy Hooves!" replied Raindrops, "I've got to hurry, see ya!" The mailpony watched Raindrops fly away. Her smile got smaller. "Nopony ever remembers my real name..." she sighed, and flew off. She arrived at the post office and dropped off her uniform. As she was leaving her boss, a mare named Postal Stamps, greeted her. "Hello Derpy!" she said, "Good day today?" "Uh yeah!" the mailpony replied, "It was...great...well I better get going." "See you tomorrow then!" said Postal Stamps, going back into her office. "Yeah, okay," the mailpony replied then whispered, "why doesn't anypony remember that my name is Ditzy Do, not...Derpy Hooves..." Trying to fight off tears that were threatening to come out, she walked out of the post office. Her wings were still tired from her workday, so she decided to walk home. Walking down the street, she bumped into two other mares. "Oh, sorry!" Ditzy exclaimed apologetically. "Oh it's okay Derpy!" replied the cream colored earth pony named Bon Bon. "Yeah its okay," said the other, a sea-green unicorn named Lyra Heartstrings, "no need to apologize. everypony knows that you can't see str-" She was cut off by Bon Bon, who elbowed her. "Don't be rude!" Bon Bon hissed to Lyra, then turned to Ditzy, "We'd best be going now. See you around Derpy!" They walked away, and this time Ditzy couldn't hold back her tears. She flew off, not wanting to go home crying. She flew to a lake outside of PonyVille, and looked into it, tears streaming down her face. She remembered before the medicsl condition with her eyes went permanent, back when her eyes were normal, and nopony called her Derpy Hooves. "Why can't I be...normal?" she whispered to herself. She closed her eyes, and remembered what the doctors told her back when she was a filly. They told her that she had some strange condition with her eyes. Every so often, her eyes would go all wonky, but only for a minute or so. So, she grew up and got used to these odd short periods of her not able to see straight. But then, it happened. It was just a normal day, and Ditzy was just flying in the sky, when another pegasi crashed into her. She fell to the ground and hit her head really hard on the road. She was unconscious for a few days with a concussion, and then woke up in the hospital. She noticed right away that her vision was funny, and figured that she just woke up in the minute or so that her eyes went funny. But then the doctor came in and when he found her awake, told her that the hit to the head damaged her eyes, and said that her eyes would be like that permanently. She was saddened by this, but didn't think it would be that bad of a thing. She got out of the hospital, and for the first few days she stumbled a lot and crashed into things. That's when many ponies started jokingly calling her Derpy Hooves. But even when she got used to it, they kept calling her that. Ditzy looked into the lake and sighed, still crying. "And then everypony forgot my name..." > Home > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ditzy heard the clock tower toll 4 o' clock. She sat up. "Oh no!" she exclaimed, "I should've been home half an hour ago! Dinky's already home from school, she's probably worries!" Wiping her tears with her hoof, the grey pegasus flew off to her house. She touched down in front of the door, and opened it. "I'm home!" she called. "Mommy! Mommy you're home!" cried a high pitched voice, then a little light purple unicorn filly ran into the front living room and hugged Ditzy hard. "Yes Dinky, I'm home," replied Ditzy, hugging her back. "What took you so long?" Dinky asked. "There was...a lot of mail today," Ditzy lied, not wanting her child to worry about her, "I had to work overtime." Then a brown stallion walked into the room. "Hey Doctor," said Ditzy, letting go of Dinky and went over to her husband, Doctor Whooves. "Have a good day at work Ditzy?" he asked. "Yes," replied Ditzy, then said a bit softer, "I guess." Doctor Whooves looked at her and said, "Ditzy, you need to get over it, you should know by now that they aren't going to stop calling you Derpy." "I know," Ditzy sighed, "It's just-" She was cut off by Doctor Whooves, who gave her a hug. "It's okay," he said to her, and then he turned to Dinky, who was just sitting there wonderin what her parents were talking about. "Hey Dinky, didn't you have a surprise for your mother?" Dinky's eyes brightened and ran off. "She insisted on wrapping one for you," said Doctor Hooves, "There's more if you want." Ditzy was about to reply when Dinky ran back in the room carrying a box wrapped like a present. She placed it down in front of Ditzy. "Come on, open it!" "Alright, I will," Ditzy said with a small chuckle. She opened it and laughed when she saw what it was. She picked it up. It was a muffin. "It's blueberry!" exclaimed Dinky, "Your favorite!" "It is my favorite, thank you Dinky," replied Ditzy. "I made them all by myself!" said Dinky. Doctor Whooves made a look. "Fine," said Dinky, " daddy helped a little." Her father gave her another look. Dinky rolled her eyes, "Fine, a lot." Ditzy lightly elbowed her husband, then said, "It's fine Dinky, I like them all the same. Now let's go sit down and eat shall we?" So they sat down in the dining room and ate their blueberry muffins, and Ditzy thought that she was so lucky to have a family like hers. > Princess Celestia's Visit > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- After enjoying their delicious blueberry muffins, Dinky spoke up. "Mommy! Someone in my class today told me that Princess Celestia is coming into town today!" she said. "Oh really?" Ditzy asked, "Why would Princess Celestia be coming here today?" "Probably to see Princess Twilight," answered Dinky, then her eyes lit up, "Mommy, can we go see her?" "Not today Dinky," replied Ditzy, "she's probably coming to talk to Princess Twilight about something important. We shouldn't bother her." "Please?" begged Dinky. "Dinky," said Doctor Whooves, "you heard your mother. Maybe next time." Dinky then got a mischievous grin on her face, "Well I'm going anyway!" she cried, then bolted out the door before her parents could react. "I'll get her," Ditzy sighed, then flew out the door after her daughter. Their house wasn't very far from the library where Princess Twilight was staying, so Dinky made it before Ditzy could catch up. When Ditzy finally caught up, Dinky was in the middle of the road gawking up at Princess Celestia. Hurryingly, Ditzy ran up to Dinky and bowed to Celestia. "So sorry Princess," said Ditzy, "my daughter is very energetic. I'm sorry if she troubled you at all." "It's quite alright," replied Celestia, "she hasn't given me any trouble, I just got here. Now hello little filly, what is your name?" Dinky stared for a moment before replying, "I'm Dinky, Dinky Do." "That's a lovely name," said Celestia, then she turned to Ditzy, "what is your name?" "I'm Ditzy Do," said Ditzy. Celestia was about to respond when the sound of a door opening stopped her. "Princess Celestia!" It was Princess Twilight Sparkle, "What did you want to talk to me about?" Twilight turned and saw Ditzy and Dinky, "Oh, hi Derpy. What are you doing here?" Celestia looked puzzled, "Twilight, did you just call this pony Derpy? She told me her name was Ditzy." "Oh, it's just my nickname," butt in Ditzy. "Well it sounds rather a rude nickname," responded Celestia, "Why is that your nickname?" "It's because of my eyes," mumbled Ditzy, "It's a medical condition. They look, well, derpy. So everypony calls me Derpy Hooves." Dinky's eyes widened, "You never told me that mommy! I didn't know other ponies were picking on you! It sounds just like how other ponies pick on me at school for not having my cutie mark!" ` "Dinky, shhh," mumbled Ditzy. "So you have lived like that for a while? With your eyes like that?" Celestia questioned, and Ditzy nodded. " "It would be much easier with your eyes not like that correct?" asked Celestia, and Ditzy nodded again. "I just want to be normal again..." mumbled Ditzy. Princess Celestia smiled, then a magic aura surrounded her horn as she bowed her head to Ditzy. When her horn touched Ditzy. Ditzy began to glow. "Mommy?" gasped Dinky. When the glow stopped, Celestia raised her head and Ditzy opened her eyes. Something seemed...different. Dinky gasped. "Mommy! Your eyes!" She exclaimed. Ditzy looked around. Her vision, was normal. She saw her reflection in the window, and gasped, then a smile spread across her face. Her eyes were normal! "Thank you Princess!" she exclaimed. "Wow, congratulations Der-er-Ditzy!" said Twilight. "You are very welcome," replied Celestia, "now if you'd excuse me, I need to take care of important business with Twilight." "Oh course!" said Ditzy, and she and Dinky started walking home, eager to tell (or show) Doctor Whooves the news. That was probably the best day of Ditzy's life. And nopony ever called her Derpy Hooves again. THE END I hope you guys liked my very first fanfic! Thanks for reading!
