Twilight gets a letter in the mail about winning free magic lessons,.Twilight frantically tries to figure out what she did wrong that made Princess Celestia want to make her take magic lessons. You know what they say about assumptions though.

Twilight gets a letter in her mail stating that she won free magic lessons. Of course, Twilight's first assumption is that she did something wrong that the Princess saw. How will Twilight handle this, calm and collected? Or will she start worrying too much, again.

This is my first attempt making a one-shot in as little time as possible.

Twilight sat there in shock. “Magic Lesson? Who proofread this letter? I never sent in a letter either—and I certainly don’t need magic lessons!”

“Hey Pinkie Pie, take a look at this flier over here.” Rainbow gestured towards the flier that was sitting on the ground, covered in dust.

“What about it?” she asked as she bounced toward Rainbow Dash and the flier.

“Wouldn’t it be the funniest thing if Twilight won this? The look on her face would be priceless!” said Rainbow Dash excitedly.

“Ooh, are you suggesting we send in a letter for Twilight?” she asked, slightly confused.

“You got it!” said Rainbow.

“Are you sure about this Dashie? I mean, I know it would be awesome to see her reaction, but don’t you think it might offend Twilight? Normally, seeing Pinkie nervous about a prank was enough to make Rainbow change her plans to something else. This though, was something she was determined to see through.

“Don’t worry so much Pinkie, besides, what are the chances of her winning anyway? There must be all kinds of other young unicorns who want to learn some more advanced magic.”

“Well today, I felt an itching feeling in my right ear followed by—”

Dash put a hoof to her mouth. “It’ll be fine Pinkie,” she said with a grin.

“Well if you say so, but don’t blame me when something bad happens.”

“But wait! What if this is about me messing up in front of Princess Celestia! What if she signed me up for the lessons because I forgot to do something?” she started pacing around the library. “That would explain the arbitrary number for winning, she probably asked them to make me the winner! Oh no, NonononononoNO! This is bad. I can’t send a letter to the Princess now to try to fix things either, Spike went off to help Rarity with something, and he won’t be back until tomorrow! Okay, calm down Twilight; let’s just see how much time you have left. Okay good, you still have an hour.”

...

“I only have an hour!—Ugh—This is worse than I thought! I’m barely going to have enough time to prepare an explanation to the teacher and figure out what I’ll say to Celestia when it’s time. Well, here goes everything.”

“Oh my gosh! Isn’t this the funniest thing you’ve seen Pinkie? Twilight is just running around frantically, trying to figure out what to do!”

“Even though my Pinkie sense told me it would work, I’m still surprised she actually was the winner.”

“This is going to be great, we only have 45 minutes until we’re going to knock on her door, this is going to be priceless!”

“I’m still don’t know about this, are you sure you still want to go through with this? I have a feeling that she isn’t going to be pleased exactly. I mean, I like a good prank, but it just feels like—”

“I already told you, don’t worry about it Pinkie, when it’s over, I’m sure we’ll all laugh about this and everything will be fine.”

“You ready for this? Let’s go!”

Knock Knock Knock

“Come in!” shouted Twilight.

Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie opened the door with a grin on their faces.

“First off, I just want to tell you that this is a huge misunderstanding.” Twilight began. “I know that—Rainbow Dash? Pinkie Pie?” she said confusedly, “Look, I know right now you two must have some new joke or something to tell, but this isn’t the best of times. I received one letter that I really need to take care of. The pony I’ll be meeting will be here any minute.”

“Actually, Twilight,” said Rainbow, trying to hold in a laugh, “That’s why we’re here!”

Twilight sat there confused, then Rainbow finally couldn’t hold her laughter in any more.

“Oh my gosh Twilight, you totally should have seen what you looked like, frantically running around the library.”

Twilight finally spoke up, “Wait, so you sent this letter? This whole thing, WAS JUST A JOKE?!

Rainbow, managing to reel in her laughter enough to be fully understood again responded, “Actually, you did win, that’s the best part! We just sent in a letter for you, and won!”

“So I still have to take magic lessons, because of you?!

“Magic lessons? No, we just erased where it said ‘Magazine’.” Rainbow said, her laughter finally dying down.

“Wait, what?”

“You know how it said ‘Magic Lesson’ but then had a really long space before the exclamation point,” Pinkie finally chimed in, “That’s where we erased the word magazine!”

“So you’re telling me, that I got all worked up, over a free magazine subscription?”

“That about sums it up!” Pinkie said happily.

“You made me think that Princess Celestia was going to force me to take Magic lessons for another year?” Twilight said, he voice becoming more agitated than before.

“Well, I guess you could put it that way,” said Rainbow as her and Pinkie started to back away.

“You know what? I’m done.”

“Wait, what?” Rainbow and Pinkie both asked, confused at the sudden change in Twilight’s mood.

“I’m tired, the additional stress didn’t help, and I need to finally get some rest.” She said drowsily.

“But don’t you want to grab the magazine subscription from the mailbox?” Rainbow just couldn’t resist asking.

“Don’t push your luck. I’m going to bed now, so both of you should probably head home. Goodnight.” And with that, Twilight trotted up her stairs without waiting for a response. She then got down into her bed, and finally managed to get some well-needed rest.
