They were helping clean up after the gala in town square Rarity had put together for the day. The party had ended almost thirty minutes ago. All the guests had left except for a few who stayed behind to help. “Yep! I had so much cider!” Pinkie agreed, throwing the bag in a near by trash can. She then ran over to Rainbow Dash who was helping Twilight take down banners. “I must say, today was...quite eventful.” Rarity said, coming up behind Applejack. Applejack turned around to see Rarity giving her a sheepish look. She hadn’t really spoken to the girl since the incident with Trender. In fact, she hadn’t really seen her all evening since she was busy making sure that everything was in order and that everyone was having a good time. A silence was shared between them before Rarity spoke up again. “Look, Applejack-” “Save it.” Applejack interrupted her, holding up a hand. “It was awkward enough. Ah don’t think it’d be wise to bring it up again.” She smiled a little. Rarity nodded. “Sorry. I just feel so awful.” She mumbled. Applejack dropped the chair she had started to fold up and faced her friend, sighing. “It’s fine, Rarity. You were goin’ crazy with love and love makes us do crazy things.” She patted her shoulder comfortingly. It was something more of a really bad joke to Applejack than an embarrassing memory. “Speaking of crazy things...Can we go for a walk? I-I kind of need to talk to you.” Rarity gestured towards the pathway leading towards Ponyville Park. She looked a little worried, and if Applejack had been listening closely enough should would have been able to hear Rarity’s heart pounding. Applejack put her hands on her hips and looked around herself. There was a few tables still littering the square and a few chairs scattered everywhere, but besides that, there didn’t seem to be much left to do. She figured they’d be fine without her and Rarity. “Well...alright.” Applejack let Rarity lead her down the pathway as she squealed with delight. As they walked, Applejack began to notice how dark it had truly gotten. The street lights that lit the park gave off a yellow hue that illuminated the walkway and the occasional bench. Something else she began to notice, was the way Rarity’s white dress hugged her hips. She also started to notice the particular way she walked. She always made sure to accentuate her best features. “So you decided to dress up?” Rarity asked, suddenly turning around. Applejack averted her gaze and looked at the dark vegetation around them. “Y-Yeah. Ah thought it was appropriate anyway.” She responded, adjusting her black tie. “There was no way in hell I was wearin’ a dress again.” She added, chulking. “Believe it or not, Rainbow’s the one who did my hair up all nice.” Rarity gasped. “Rainbow? Rainbow Dash did your hair? But it looked so professionally done!” She was completely taken aback. “Eeyup. Said it was her secret hobby or somethin’. An’ she don’t want no one knowin’ about it so don’t you go tell no one, ya hear?” Applejack told her. The fashionista nodded, but made a mental note to ask Rainbow to do her hair for a charity event coming up.“It’s going to take me forever to get that mud out of that dress.” Rarity said, pouting, remembering that she had gotten mud all over the dress Applejack had worn earlier. “Sorry.” Applejack apologized. “Ah didn’t mean for it to get dirty. I was jus’ tryna make ya snap out of it.” She gave her friend a pitiful look. Rarity shook her head. “No need to apologize, Applejack. In fact, I thought that dress looked simply divine on you.” She smiled warmly at her friend. Her heart fluttered when she saw a blush creep on Applejack’s tan face. “My my. Is someone blushing?” She teased. “N-No! I-It’s gettin’ cold out is all!” Applejack stuttered, clearly lying. She turned away from the fashionista to hide her rose tinted cheeks. Rarity walked over to her and turned her face in her direction. “Applejack, darling, there’s no reason to be ashamed. I think you look beautiful in everything you wear. Especially those shorts you wear on the farm.” She winked and Applejack let out a nervous laugh. “Y’know, Applejack, I’ve been thinking.” Rarity mused as she began to walk again. AJ followed after her at a quick pace to keep up. “Yeah? ’Bout what?” Applejack asked as she finally caught up to her. The only sound that could be heard besides the sound of their voices and breathing was the faint click of Rarity’s heels. It was probably late into the night by now. Applejack didn’t know how long they had been walking, but for some reason, she didn’t care. After everything that happened today Rarity was still her friend and there was no changing that. “I don’t think I’m very interested in men anymore.” Applejack nearly walked into a pole. “What?! What do ya mean by that?! Ah thought you were straight?!” Her voice reached hysterical levels with each sentence. “Well...I am. Almost. Not entirely.” Rarity sat down at a nearby bench as put her head in her hands. The bench creaked as Applejack sat down next to her, just as bewildered as before and a lot more confused. “It’s sounds complicated, to say the least.” Applejack told her. “Yes, I suppose you could say that.” Rarity agreed. She sighed before speaking again. “What if I told you...I had strong feelings for...someone.” Applejack gave her a confused look. “How would it be any of my business?” She noticed that Rarity was shaking a bit. ‘Is she nervous?’ She thought. “Because...” Rarity bit her lip. “Because the person I have feelings for is you, Applejack.” Applejack’s eyes nearly bulged out of her head. “B-Beg your pardon?” She stuttered, her hand gripping the side of the bench so tight that her tanned knuckles showed white. “I’m in love with you, Applejack. I just....I think that I’ve been throwing myself at men because I thought it would make you jealous. Or....or maybe make me not want you.” Rarity twirled one of her loose purple curls. “All that ever did was make me want you more.” She looked at Applejack, who was still in shock. She understood though, because she would be in shock too if her friend suddenly pronounced their love to her. “When?” Applejack asked after a moment of silence. “Since...the sleepover. I have no idea how it happened, but it did.” Rarity answered. Another pocket of silence. Rarity nearly held her breath. She knew now wasn’t a good time. She just kne- “Ah’m in love with you too.” Well that was unexpected. “E-Excuse me?” Rarity stammered. Now she was just as surprised as Applejack. “Earlier today, when I was talking to Trender, Ah was gonna say that Ah was in love with you, but you cut me off.” Applejack explained. “You’re real pretty Rar. There ain’t no doubting that.” It was quiet for a while, but not an awkward quiet. A thoughtful one. And both women had quite a lot to think about. How could both of them not see the signs? How could it have gone unnoticed? Rarity fidgeted. “Can I ask you something?” she asked, a little unsure of herself. Applejack turned to her. “Yeah, what is i-” Before Applejack could finish her sentence Rarity’s lips were on hers. Rather than resist, Applejack deepened the kiss, pulling Rarity closer by putting a hand on her cheek. It was a short, sweet kiss, something Applejack had never experienced before but wanted more of. When it ended, the farm girl smirked. “What was that for?” Rarity bit her lip and blushed. “Well, it’s like you said. Love makes people do crazy things.” “That it does.” Applejack agreed, pecking her on the lips. She put an arm around the other woman and looked up at the stars. “Yep.” She sighed in content. “Crazy, stupid, love.”
