> The Girl > by The Infinity Doctor > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > A Girl and her Blot > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lily smiled to herself as she curled into a large, warm figure. Said figure was hugging her tightly, keeping her off of the cold, stone floor- those bright green eyes and wide grin staring down at her. She wiggled against the hulking figure in an attempt to keep warm. The human girl and the ink-monster were an odd pair, to say the least; the two had been together for who-knows-how-long, both of them had been frightened of each other all those weeks ago. When she had lived a normal life, when her parents had still loved her, when she had lived back on Earth. Right now, though, she was content with laying with her teddy bear and her Blot. She liked it here, it was much more lush and beautiful than Earth had ever been, no pollution, no obnoxious noise, and she got to keep her best friend. Most of the people that had met Blot were either scared or angry, at what, she didn't know- once you got to know him, he was like a giant, inky teddy bear. Though he could snap you in half if he thought you were even just a little dangerous; despite this, he never raised his hand against her, even when she'd angered him (which happened on more than one occasion). Those same people had found his appearance off putting, as well- the dark purple/black surface of his form and bright green eyes were enough to prevent anyone from getting within five feet of them. The moon continued its ascent as she stared up at it, the large white sphere was unblocked as clouds drifted out of its way. 'Just the way it should be...' she thought, drifting off to sleep. X X X X X X X The sun had indeed decided to rise that morning, if the magnificent ball of fire in the sky was any indication. Lily groaned as she rubbed the crud out of her eyes, and looked to her left, seeing the Blot spread out on the floor. Rooting through her small knapsack, the girl pulled two granola bars out of one of the pockets. She set the second bar down, and set to work tearing the cellophane off of the first, she bit into it as the Blot rolled over and 'stood', she didn't exactly know what he was doing- seeing as he had no legs, just a long trail of ink connecting with the rest of his body. "Good to see you're finally up" she said, watching his green eyes connect with hers "Grr" he grumbled "I got you breakfast" she said, offering the granola to him The Blot shook his hooded head and pushed the bar back towards her with a great claw "You need to eat something- I don't need it, see?" She held up her own for emphasis He shook his head again and patted her head with the same claw. "You know I hate it when you do that..." "Grr" "Why don't you ever eat anything?" He only shrugged and looked skyward to the sun "Grrr?" "Yes, that's the sun, it's beautiful, isn't it?" "Gr" "Yeah, you should have seen the moon last night" "Grr-" "Yes, I went to sleep" she sighed, rolling her eyes "I'm six, you don't need to watch me every second" The Blot gave her a flat look and raised one of his non-existent eyebrows "Rrr..." "I know, I know..." "Grr?" "I don't know, I haven't looked outside, do you think there's anyone out here?" "Rrr" "I guess...but you never know" "Grr" "Come on, there's a forest out there- we have to go and explore it" "Gr?" "Why? It's in the rules of course!" "Grr?" "Well, I don't have the book with me right now, of course..." He shot her a look as if to say 'Oh Really?' After a few more minutes, of begging, the Blot held her hand as they exited through the old, wooden doors of the old castle 'Funny' she wondered, staring up at him as they went 'sometimes I wonder which of us is the child' She found this amusing as she thought back to all the times she'd been called to play the part of the older sibling in the relationship. One paticular incident with wanting to pet the neighbor's cat especially stood out in her mind. X X X X X X X A strange pair broke through the heavy foliage of the Everfree, walking slowly into the clearing. "How long do you think this forest goes on?" Lily asked, brushing wayward twigs and leaves from her legs. The Blot shrugged and pointed upward "No, you can't fly up there, someone might see you" He seemed to deflate as he sat down "I know, but we can't be seen until we know if anyone's out here, then you can fly around as much as you want" He perked up immediately and took her hand in his large, inky claw. "Alright! Alright!" she giggled, being tugged forward a few feet at a time. X X X X X X X Fluttershy hummed to herself as she filled Angel's food dish with lettuce. She jumped as a small bird launched itself into the house. "Oh, hello Mrs. Hummingbird, what's wrong?" The bird sat on the table and flapped its wings as panicked chirps and tunes escaped its beak. "Oh dear, a p-pair of m-monsters?" The hummingbird nodded hurriedly. "I'd better go and tell Twilight, then- Angel!" Said bunny hopped onto the table, scaring the hummingbird. "I have to go out for a few minutes, would you mind keeping an eye on things while I'm out?" The rabbit saluted. "Oh good, I knew I could count on you" Fluttershy bade farewell to her animal friends as she quickly trotted out of her house and down the street, towards the library. > Aliens > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "It's just not probable, Fluttershy!" Twilight said, flipping through her dictionary of Equestrian oddities "There's nothing in here that even comes close to the description of those creatures your bird friend saw" "Maybe they're not from Equestria" Spike suggested, pulling two books from the upper shelves "What if they're from the Griffon Kingdom? Or that place Zecora's from" "Zebrica, Spike" Twilight corrected, setting the book in her magic on the table "I hadn't thought of that...maybe we should send a request to the Canterlot Archives...you don't happen to know what these creatures are, do you Fluttershy?" "No...I've never heard of anything like them..." "...why don't you write to Princess Celestia? Maybe she knows what these things are" "I think I'll save that as a last resort, Spike- I think we should at least try to talk to them before we jump to any conclusions, remember that whole incident with Zecora a few weeks ago?" "Yeah..." "We sure don't want a repeat of how we treated her- when, if, they arrive, the least we can do is to at least attempt to make friends" "What if they want to eat us?" Fluttershy began to tremble "D-do they eat p-ponies?" "They could-" "Spike, what did I just say about jumping to conclusions?" "Er, right..." Spike blushed "Great, now let's pull all of the books we have on mythology" X X X X X X X "What do you mean you won't?" Lily sighed "Grr" "But if you look like one of them, maybe we can just sneak through" The Blot shook his head "Why not? If you can fit into my backpack, you can turn yourself into a pony" He looked thoughtful for a moment before conceeding His huge form shrank and shifted itself into that of a large pony, his eyes and mouth still remained a bright green, he shook his head and the hood was replaced with a short mane and ears. "Wow, you're even taller than that big red pony we saw" I commented "Grr..." "It's not that bad, besides- you could scare them in your natural form" He somehow managed to roll his eyes as they trotted through the dense underbrush of the forest and closer to the sunlight. X X X X X X X "Ugh, we've gone through all of these, and still nothing!" Twilight groaned from a pile of books. "Maybe we could go talk to Zecora?" Spike asked "That'd take too long, Spike, based on these creatures' position, they should be approaching Ponyville soon- I can't afford to miss meeting them" "It's possible these creatures aren't even sentient, Twilight" "I know, Spike" she sighed "but we have to be prepared, just in case" "Right, but how are we going to prepare for-" Spike was interrupted by a blood-curdling shriek coming from the street. "Do you suppose that's them?" X X X X X X X "That...was really loud..." Lily grumbled, watching three of the ponies run down the street, screaming bloody murder. The Blot agreed as the previously full marketplace was quickly vacated, dozens of ponies scrambling for their homes. "This could've gone better..." she deadpanned, watching the madness. "Grr" "I'm starting to think we could've done this more carefully"" "Grrr?" "Yeah, they're already scared out of their wits, we might as well look around town" He somehow managed to shrug in pony-form, and the two of them began their tour of the town. X X X X X X X The door to the library flung open, startling Twilight and Spike. "Rarity? What's the matter?" "Oh Twilight! It's horrible! Absolutely dreadful!" Rarity moaned "What is it? What happened?" "Monsters are invading Ponyville!" "You must mean those two Fluttershy was talking about- has anypony tried talking to them?" "Well no, but-" "Do you even know what they look like?" "Well, no..." "Then why did you run?" "I heard their description from Lily, Daisy, and Roseluck" "I swear...those three..." Twilight muttered "Let's go meet them, it'll be better to get this out of the way before something bad happens" "But Twilight-" "Rarity, this is exactly how everypony reacted to Zecora, I think we learned our lesson after that Poison Joke incident" "I- I- suppose you're right" Rarity admitted "Should we gather everypony else?" "I think that would be best, then we can get all the introductions out of the way" "I'll gather Fluttershy and Applejack" "Good, I'll go get Pinkie and Rainbow Dash- come on, Spike" The baby dragon nodded, and followed the two unicorns out of the library. X X X X X X X "Wow, there's something you don't see every day" Lily said, she and the Blot stopping in front of a large building shaped like a gingerbread house "Grr?" "It's supposed to be a gingerbread house- it's like a house built with thin slabs of it" "Grr?" "Yes, really" "Gr" "Yes, I know people are weird, so are these ponies" The Blot looked up, and pointed to a blur of colors streaking through the sky. "What the heck is th-" Lily didn't finish her sentence as the pegasus rammed head-on into the Blot, passed right through him, and skidded to a halt as she fell to the pavement, covered in purplish-black sludge. Said pegasus was splayed out on its belly in the middle of the road, groaning. > Well that was a good first impression, don't you think? > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rainbow Dash glared at the creatures laughing at her, struggling to escape the bind of the mystery-goo, which had practically glued her to the street. The shorter creature wiped its eyes and held out a deformed hoof to her. Rainbow glanced at it, then hesitantly took it- and found herself being pulled free of the goop with a loud *POP*. "Are you alright, Miss?" "Eh, I'm fine-" The large stallion trotted up to her, and seemed to sniff her. "You might want to close your eyes, Miss" "Wh-" Rainbow was interuppted as the stallion matted her fur with his tongue. She blushed as the stallion...licked her clean... The smaller creature was trying to hide a smile behind one of its deformed hooves. "What. The. Hay." "I'm Lily, Miss- who are you?" "What are you? How'd you do that? Where'd you come from?" The small creature shrank back from Rainbow as she shot off her questions, leaning closer to her as she did- then took notice of the low growling coming from the stallion, those acid green eyes drilling into her. "Whoa! Back off!" The creature ran its hoof along the stallion's coat- as a result, the rage died from his eyes. "Wh-what are you?" "I'm a human, Miss- who are you?" "I'm Rainbow Dash, fastest flier in all of Equestria!" she said proudly. "Oh, hello there- who are you?" Lily asked, staring past Rainbow. Rainbow turned and saw Twilight and Spike. "I'm- I'm Twilight Sparkle; this is my #1 assistant, Spike" "Hi" Spike said. "Are you a dragon?" Lily asked. "Yep" "But why're you so- small?" "I'm a baby dragon, I'll get taller when I'm older" he explained. "Oh..." "So...erm, Lily, where did you come from?" "The forest" she answered, dodging the question. "That's it? Are there more of you out there? Why are you here, alone?" "I ain't alone, I got him" she said, wrapping her small arm over the Blot-Stallion's back. Twilight took in the Blot's full height in his pony form, staring into his acid-green eyes. "Well, er, why don't we take this into the library?" Twilight suggested "Maybe we can talk better there" "That sounds like a good idea" Lily said, then to the Blot "That okay with you?" The stallion grunted in response and the four headed towards the tree-shaped building that served as Twilight and Spike's home, leaving a very confused Rainbow sitting on her haunches in the middle of the street. X X X X X X X "Wow, that's what I call a tree-house" Lily whistled, staring at the library in awe. "What? It's not a tree-house" Spike said, confused. "It's not? Then what is it?" "Well...it's a, erm...what is it, Twilight?" "You know, I never thought about it, I suppose technically it could be called a tree-house, but I think it's more like a...house tree?" Twilight continued to ponder this as they walked into the library, she closed the front door as Lily and the Blot sat down on two of the over-stuffed cushions resting on the floor. "So..." Twilight began. 'I was so excited to talk to them, now I'm drawing a total blank!' "Are you a unicorn?" Lily asked, staring at Twilight's horn. "Er, yes, I am- what are you?" "I'm a human" she responded. "I see..." 'Have to check the Archives later...' "And who's your...ahem...companion?" "He's the Blot" "Uh...huh...how are you two related?" "My best friend" she replied, squeezing the stallion for all he was worth, the stallion responding with an unsure hug of his own "You aren't separating us" "Oh no, I wasn't planning to" Twilight said quickly "I just wanted to know what you're doing here in Ponyville" "That big castle was real cold" Lily shivered, still leaning into the stallion. "The big- you mean the old castle of the Royal Pony Sisters in the middle of the Everfree? That big castle?" Spike asked. "Uh-huh, we decided to find someplace warmer" "So...you just want to live here?" Twilight asked. "I guess...seems like a nice enough place..." Lily said. 'She's just a foal, unless that stallion is her father....that must be it! No way would anypony in their right mind let two foals wander the Everfree' "Where would you live? I doubt you have enough bits to buy a house" "I...didn't think of that..." Lily admitted. "Maybe you could send a letter to Princess Celestia, Twilight" Spike piped up "Maybe she could help" "I'm not going to ask the princess to buy a house, Spike" Twilight said "I think it would be better if we find somepony that wants them to live with them" "No offence, but who would want them to be living in their home?" "None taken" Lily responded. The Blot, however, wasn't as forgiving, and growled at Spike. Spike took that as his cue to back away, and did so slowly, taking refuge behind Twilight. "It's alright" Lily said, taking his hoof "He didn't mean nothin' by it" The stallion looked down at her and huffed, ceasing his growl. "So, um, why are your eyes like that?" Twilight asked. The Blot broke eye contact with Lily, and stared at Twilight as if she had three heads, Twilight began to feel uncomfortable as the silence and blank stare sunk in. "He can't exactly talk" Lily said, startling Twilight "I don't know if it's because he won't or he can't, but I can understand him well enough" "Oh..." 'Perhaps I could find a translation spell for him...or maybe a vocal spell...' "Well, first things first, are both of you healthy? If you were in the Everfree for as long as you said you were, you might be malnourished or sick" "I feel fine, what about you?" she asked, looking up to the Blot. "Grr" "Still, it's better to be safe then sorry, would you like to meet my friend Fluttershy?" "Fluttershy? Who's that?" "She's sort of a vet that lives at the edge of the forest, you might like her" "She takes care of animals?" "Uh-huh, why? Do you like animals?" "I love animals, 'specially bunny rabbits" > Oops... > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Blot stared at the yellow pony, its flowing pink mane covering half her face as she cooed at his charge, her legs wrapped around her. "You're just the most adorable little thing I've ever seen!" she said, hugging the small girl for all she was worth. "That's...nice and all..." Lily gasped, trying her best to push away from the pony "but...I can't...breathe..." "Oh dear! I'm so very sorry!" the pegasus said, somehow managing to shout and whisper at the same time. "That's alright" she responded, rubbing the back of her neck. 'Fluttershy' suddenly took notice of him, and she squeaked in fright, backing up as far as she could. He cocked a brow at her behavior, then shrugged it off as being a quirk of the new species. Lily's head slipped back and forth between the pink-maned pegasus and himself, confusion adorning her features. "What's the matter?" she asked, her head still in motion. The yellow pony let out something relatable to a squeak, and the large mass of pink mane quivered. Fortunately, the purple one was there to intervene, and went to her friend. The purple one said something barely audible to him, and the pegasus stood, ruffling her wings as she did so. He rolled his eyes, then turned. He stretched, zooming up to the window, and peered out, his green eyes taking in the sunny day beyond the glass. Sighing to himself, he felt something grip his form. Looking down, he noticed that something was Lily, affectionately latching onto one of his hooves. Patting her head with one of his tendrils, he picked her up, showing her the sun's rays outside. "I know, it's pretty here, isn't it? Lots of plants and animals" she said, shifting herself so she was staring at him. He felt himself smile, and set her down, only for him to realize both of them were being watched by the unicorn and the pegasus. A small critter then came bounding up, its white fur distinguishing it from the rest of the house. Lily shrieked? in happiness as she plucked the little furball from the floor, hugging it tightly as she cooed at it. "Who's this wittle guy?" she said, stroking between its long ears. "That's Angel," the pegasus responded "he helps me around the house, as well as feeding all of my animal friends" "Oh" Lily responded. Fluttershy politely asked for Angel, to which Lily responded hesitantly, returning the rabbit to his owner.
