> Button Mash and The Quest to Rescue Sweetie Belle > by JamesBurton > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Press Start to Play [Edited] > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Come on, come on, come on," groaned Button Mash, "just five MORE minutes till schools out for the summer." He puts his hooves together begging for the clock to speed up "Please, please, PLEASE Hurry up"   "Ugh, begging the clock to go faster won’t make it go any faster Button," replied a white colored unicorn. "So just be patient."   Button Mash quickly turns his head at the white colored filly "PATIENCE!? Sweetie Belle, I don't know if you know, but today is the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! It’s like the Hearth's Warming Eve of summer but without the cold and snow.” The brown earth pony gives a determine look on his face. "My girl, this day is what all fillies and colts strive for."   Sweetie Belle just gives a confused look "Button, what are you talking about?" She rests her head on her hoof "You practicably breezed through this year."   "Hey, yeah, I bet he got A's and B's again this year," replied an orange Pegasus.   "And made the Honors list... again," added a yellow earth pony with a red bow on her head.   Button's face turns a little bit red from embarrassment. "Aw, come on Scootaloo and Apple Bloom. I'm not that smart."   The three fillies looked at each other then turned their attention back to Button Mash.   "What about the time you helped us with our math homework of changing mixed numbers to improper fractions?" replied Scootaloo, "Homework that you got done in class."   "Or that time you helped mah sister manage Sweet Apple Acres financial situation," added Apple Bloom, "all because Applejack forgot to carry the one."   "And let’s not forget that you SOMEHOW balanced Rarity's checking accounts. ALL. FIVE. OF. THEM" finished Sweetie Belle.   Button Mash sheepishly rubs the back of his head.   "Tell us Button, how'd ya get so good at math?" asked Apple Bloom   Button Mash just narrows his eyes "When you do dealings at GameGo, you better know how to do math."   "Okay, class" spoke Miss Cherilee "It’s 3:00 pm you're free to go and I hope that you all have a wonderful-" Button Mash left the room faster than Rainbow Dash. “-summer."   ------------------------------------------------------------ "WOOOOHOOOOO! I'm free baby! Yeah!" cheered Button Mash "No more schoolwork next two and half months!"   "Not like it would have mattered to you anyway, Button" deadpanned Scootaloo "You probably would've finished it before you got home."   Button Mash waves a hoof at her, "Phhss, enough talk about school, its summer vacation!" he grabs Sweetie Belle spins her around, "No more going to bed early, or studying for tests."   "That you probably got A's on." muttered Scootaloo.   Button Mash stops spinning Sweetie Belle around, "So what are you guys to do for your summer vacation?" he asked.   "Same thing we do everyday Button," they replied in unison "TRY TO GET OUR CUTIE MARKS!!!"   Button rubs his ears from the crusader's sudden outburst "Ouch, well as usual I wish you good luck with that," he gives Sweetie Belle a kiss on the cheek and starts to walk home.   "Uh, Button, aren't you forgetting something?" asked Sweetie Belle   The brown earth pony stops and turns around "Ummm... no, I don't think so. Why? Am I forgetting something important?"   The unicorn filly rises an eyebrow "Uh, yeah, I would say it’s very important Button, it’s something that you asked me at the end of school last year."   Apple Bloom rubs her chin. "Uh, didn't he ask you to be-"   "No, no, let him figure it out" interrupted Scootaloo.   "Something that I asked you?" replied Button. He scratches the back of his head in thought. "Well let’s see, last year I asked the girls what were their summer plans: Sweetie said she was living with parents for the summer, Apple Bloom said she had more work to do on the farm, asked Sweetie Belle to be my girlfriend before she left, And Scootaloo said she was...   "....Wait a minute" Button Mash's eyes widen in realization and his propeller hat stops immediately   "And it looks like he just got it...finally" Scootaloo said.   Button Mash starts to flail around in a panic " Wait, wait, wait I didn't forget my first anniversary" He starts to look around trying to come up with an excuse. "Uh, I was waiting for, tonight because it’s like super romantic or something." The poor earth pony starts to sweat uncontrollably. "Which I need to get ready for gottagobye" he leaves the crusader trio with the quickness.     "Sweetie what do ya see in him?" Apple Bloom asked.     "Eh, he has hot flank, I-I mean a cute flank, I MEAN HE'S CUTE ALRIGHT!" ------------------------------------------------------------------- "Oh no three more strands of gray hair today" complained a light brown earth pony with a heart and a bottle for a cutie mark. "Face it Milano, you're getting older,” she turns off the bathroom light walks into her bedroom and lays down on her bed. "Pretty soon you're going to have a full head of gray and crow's feet." Her face drops "And wrinkles, oh my, I'm gonna get wrinkles!"   "MMMMMMMOOOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!!!"   Milano sits up from her bed. "What is it Button?" Judging by the sound of his screaming it was either his ‘I did something stupid’ or ‘I forgot something important’ scream, she hoped for the latter. "Did you punch Rumble in the face again?"   "MOOOMM TODAY'S MY FIRST ANNIVERSARY WITH SWEETIE BELLE" he yelled. Milano smiles at her son."Awww, really Button? That's wonder-" He cuts her off.   "BUT I FFORRGGOTTTTT IIITT!!!"   Milano groans and her face instantly drops. "Aw, really, Button... your first one, and you forgot it. Somehow I'm not surprised," she said to her son. " Your father did the same thing when we were your age.”   "Really, Mom." The brown earth colt looks at his mother. "So what did he do to fix it?"   The light brown mare puts a hoof to her chin in thought. "Well, he invited me over to his house to play video games, but you might not want to do that because-"   "THATS IT!!," he yelled "I'll just invite Sweetie Belle over so we can play video games for our anniversary, thanks Mom." He leaves his mother alone in her room while he begins his plan.   "-that's how your brother was born..." ----------------------------------------------------------------- "Ohhh how could he forget our first anniversary, stupid Button" growled Sweetie Belle as she paces around her room. " He is SOOO lucky that I like him...and his butt."   "SWEETIE BELLE DO TRY AND KEEP YOUR PACING DOWN AS I HAVE A VERY IMPORTANT ORDER THAT I NEED TO FINISH AND I NEED COMPLETE CONCENTRATION!!"   "Sorry Rarity." ----------------------------------------------------- "Here you go Button Mash a bouquet of red roses. That will be 20 bits please."   "Thanks Miss Roseluck." He gives her the bits as she hands over the flowers. "So Button, what's the occasion?"   Button Mash's face gets a little hot. “O-Oh well they’re for Sweetie Belle. Today's our first anniversary, and I thought I should get her some flowers."   "Well isn't that sweet," Roseluck cooed "A nice colt buying his girlfriend some flowers for their anniversary! Well I wish you the best of luck Button Mash."   "Thank you Miss Roseluck." Button Mash said as he turn and walked away from the flower stand. Roseluck dreamily leans her head on her hoof as Button Mash continues to walk away from her stand.  "Ah, young love."   "Okay, now that I've got some flowers I can now begin phase two of my plan." The brown earth pony said. "Now all I need to do is get to Sweetie Belle's house. He walks down a couple more blocks until he sees a familiar building coming into view. "There it is, now to get Sweetie Belle for part three." He goes up to the front door. "Alright here we go."   "Well, well, well if it isn't my old bro Button Mash!"   Button Mash slowly turns around to the sound of the voice to see a familiar gray pegasus " Rumble what do you want?"   "Oh nothing much, just stopped by to say hi," he said grinning.   The brown colt glares at him." Hi, now go away, I have more important things to do than to stand here talking to you."   Rumble walks to the brown colt with the same glare on his face. "Likewise, so I'll make this brief," he stops in front of Button Mash and stares him in the eyes, "I'm gonna get you back for punching me in the face."   "You deserved it after what you did to Scootaloo," Button spat.   "Tch, even you would go crazy if all you ever heard was Rainbow Dash this and Rainbow Dash that,” he replied.   "But you didn't have to humiliate her in front of the entire class!"   The black hair pegasus just rolls his eyes." Whatever," he spreads his wings and takes off in the air. "I'll be seeing ya around old friend," and with that he flies away. "Jerk, I still can’t believe we used to be best friends," he turns back around to the door and knocks on it three times.   "SWEETIE BELLE, GET THE DOOR!!!"   Button Mash starts to hear the door unlocking, "Yes? Can I-." Sweetie Belle opens the door to see Button Mash standing at the door. "Oh it’s you, well what do you want?" Button Mash pulls out the bouquet of roses, Sweetie Belle gasps in surprise.   "Oh, Button, you shouldn't have."   "Oh, but had to and," He takes a bow “I would also be honored if milady would spend the evening with me."   "It would be my honor Sir Button," Sweetie Belle smiled.   "Thank you milady," he said. And who says that Dating Sims don't teach you anything. "Come on Sweetie Belle," said the brown colt, "I shall escort you to my house where we shall have a nice dinner followed by sitting under a tree watching the stars together."   "My, my, my aren't we the gentlecolt."   Sweetie Belle turns around embarrassed, "Rarity, just how long were you standing there?”   "Oh, right when Button gave you those roses" she said. "And I must say that it was quite romantic, oh and uh, thanks for balancing my checking accounts Button."   "Oh it was no problem, I was happy to help."   "Alright, Alright," Sweetie Belle said as she pushes Button away from her sister. "Let’s go before she ropes you into doing something else."   "Okay, well you two have fun now," Rarity said while waving to them. "Oh and tell Milano I said hi." The two ponies leave from Rarity's sight. "Well might as well go back inside and finish this order." She returns to her house/business and closes the door. ------------------------------------------------ "Okay Sweetie Belle, we still got some time before Princess Celestia begins to lower the sun and dinner isn't quite ready," He turns to the white filly lying down on his bed, "So what do you want to do?"   The unicorn filly looks at her boyfriend with a smile." Oh! I know let’s play-"   "No fighting games Sweetie."   She gives a look of disappointment. "Aww why not?"   "Because you keep on sweeping me" he said.   "That's because I don't like garbage." she replied   Button Mash slams his hoof on the ground." I am NOT garbage." he said " My controller wasn't working and you know it!"   "Yes Button, I'm pretty SURE it was the controller."   That was it, that was all he could stand and he couldn't stand it no more as he tries to playfully push Sweetie Belle. "Heh, heh just as planned" she grabs his hoof and throws him face down on his bed with Sweetie on his back holding his hoof behind him. "Well, well, well, look who tried to get a first attack." she said grinning.   "Okay, okay, you win." Button said admitting defeat. "Please let me go."   "Oh I'll let you go." she said smiling. "Right after your punishment."   "Punishment?"   Sweetie Belle's smile doesn't fade from her face. "That's right Button, and for your punishment I think somepony needs a spanking."   The brown colt gulps in fear. "Uh-oh." ******************************************** Meanwhile downstairs in the kitchen a certain light brown mother was busy making dinner. "Hmm, pasta sounds like a romantic dinner for two," she thought as she puts the noodles in a pot. "I wonder how Button's plan is coming along."   *SMACK* OW *SMACK* OUCH SWEETIE THAT *SMACK* HURTS *SMACK*   "Oh my," Milano said to herself. "Well, it’s official, Button is whipped... or getting whipped." The light brown mare chuckles to herself.   KNOCK KNOCK!   "MAILLLLL CALLLLL!"   "COMING!" said the graying mother as she walks to the front door and opened it. "Oh hello Derpy, what can I do for you today?" she asked.   "Package for Button Mash." the Pegasus said with a smile.   Milano looks away with a tint of red across her face. "O-Oh well, he can’t come to the door right now because he's a little-"   *SMACK* AAAUUGGHH WHY *SMACK* ARE YOU *SMACK* ENJOYING *SMACK* THIS!!!   "-busy, But I'll be happy to take it for him."   "Okie Dokie then," she said as takes out a clipboard. "Sign here please."   Milano signs the paper on the clipboard as the mailmare takes out a package from her bag. " Here ya go." Derpy said as she gives Milano the package." Thank you Derpy" replied the embarrassed mother while waving good bye. "Huh, I wonder what this is" she thought to herself. "Oh Button, you have a-" *SMACK* SWEETIE I'M *SMACK* SORRRRRYYYYY *SMACK*   Milano sighs in exasperation. "On second thought maybe I'll just bring it to him," she walks upstairs to Button's room.   "And one more for good measure." *SMACK*   "Ahem."   Sweetie Belle and Button Mash look up to see Milano standing in the doorway. "Oh, uh, hello Mrs. Mash," Sweetie Belle said blushing. "Uh, you're probably wondering-." she sees that her hoof is still on his flank. "Forget it, I was spanking your son,... I enjoyed it... no shame."   Button's mom laughs at the little filly. "I can see that Sweetie, but that's not why I'm here." she holds out the package. "This is for you Button, Derpy just delivered it."   Button immediately grabs the package. "What is it, what is it," He rips it open with no remorse. "HUH?!" he pulls out a cartridge. "It’s a video game?"   "Oh, of course it’s a video game." Milano said while rolling her eyes. "Well you two have fun now while I check on the food." she leaves the two ponies alone.     Button Mash looks at the game in utter confusion. "I don't remember ordering this...huh...." He shrugs off his confusion." Oh well, I'm not one to turn down a free game." he said while walking to his game console.   "Uh Button, I don't know about you but something about this seems...sketchy." Sweetie Belle said.   The earth colt turns his head to his girlfriend. "What do you mean?" He said while putting the game in.   The unicorn filly facehoofs in annoyance." What I mean is, a game gets delivered to you,...that you don't remember ordering." she rubs her chin." I don't know why but this seem familiar, like a game did this exact same thing."   Button Mash raises an eyebrow." Ok now your being paranoid." he turns on the game. "See, nothing but a regular game, now quit your worrying and lets play."   Sweetie Belle sits down next to Button Mash as the game loaded up." Hero's Quest?" He said. "A game where you become a hero, who goes off to save the princess from the evil unicorn king Codex...Typical."   And at the bottom of the screen stood out four familiar words.   Press Start to Play   The brown colt laughs. "Alright, let’s do this!!!"   He presses start...and both ponies disappeared from the room. > Tutorial stage > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now Loading… Paradise Island "Ugh...Wha...What happened?" moaned the brown earth pony as he rubbed his head. “Augh my aching... Sweetie!" He instantly turns around to the unconscious unicorn laying beside him. "Sweetie, Sweetie, c'mon Sweetie Belle, wake up!" After a couple of nudges she starts to regain consciousness. "Ohh...Button...what happened?" she groaned. Button Mash slowly rubs his eyes. "I have no idea. The last thing I remember was some bright flash." He slowly stands on his hooves and begins to look around. "But I think the more important question is...where are we?" The two young ponies look around to see that they were in some kind of field filled with beautiful flowers, surrounded by a spring of water with a small waterfall behind it with various animals drinking from the spring, combined with a couple of clouds lingering in the sky on a beautiful sunny day, this was the perfect paradise. The couple could only stand speechless at the beauty of this place. "Oh Button, it’s so beautiful here." Sweetie Belle whispered. "I-I don't think I ever saw a place like this." The brown earth colt slowly nods his head in agreement. "Yeah, me neither." "Hey Button, can I ask you a question?" "Sure Sweetie, what's up?" She turns and looks at Button Mash who is still looking at the spring. "How did we end up here?" "That is a very good question my dear just, HOW did you two get here?" Sweetie Belle and Button Mash quickly turn around to find that they were not alone anymore, as a gray-coated unicorn was standing right behind them. He had a brown mane and blue eyes and spoke with a tone of cockiness. "Well, color me surprise," he said. "When I felt such a strong magical presence here I thought a couple of my unicorn subjects had escaped, but a quick roll call ruled out that theory." He slowly walks over to the surprised ponies. "So the million gold question is...who are you two?" Button Mash protectively stands in front of Sweetie Belle. "You first," he said. The gray unicorn waves his hoof in a mocking manner. "Ah, ah, ahh I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours." There was something about this unicorn that Button Mash didn't like something off-putting about him, but nevertheless he decides to tell this mysterious unicorn his name. "It’s Button Mash," growled the brown earth colt. "I see," he cocks his head to the side. "And who is the pretty white filly standing behind you?" "I'm Sweetie Belle," replied the white unicorn. The unicorn smiles coyly at the couple. "See, now was that so hard," he said. "And now that you told me yours I'll tell you mine. He puts on a regal pose. "I am the ruler of this world, the king of all that you see before you, and the god of awesomeness, I AM GOD LORD KING CODEX!!!" He turns his attention back to Button and Sweetie. "And you two will submit to me, my newest subjects." The earth colt puts a hoof to his head in thought. Codex, Codex, Codex where have I heard that name before? "Yeeehhhaaa, no," said Sweetie Belle. "I submit to nopony and Button here already submits to me, so you're outta luck buster, right Button?" Sweetie Belle's sudden question knocks Button out of his thoughts. "Huh? That's right Sweetie." agreed Button. " I submit to-" He turns to face Sweetie Belle. "Wait, what?" Codex shakes his head in disappointment. "Tsk, Tsk, Tsk such a shame, and here I thought I wouldn't have to use force...Oh well." The unicorn king quickly hits Sweetie Belle with a blast of powerful magic knocking her out. "OH NO, SWEETIE BELLE!" Button Mash quickly goes to check on her. "SWEETIE, SWEETIE ARE YOU OK?" he picks her up and gently shakes her. "Oh please be ok." "Oh, relax, Pickin’ Trash, she'll be fine. And besides, why would I injure my soon to be wife?" he said smiling. "So be a good little subject and give her to me." Button Mash gently lays the unconscious Sweetie Belle down on the grass. "I'm NOT giving her to you Codex!!" he stands in front of Sweetie Belle about to protect her from whatever the evil unicorn king had in store for the white filly. "And you must be nuts if you think even for a second that I'm going to let you take her from me, yet alone marry her!" Codex puts a hoof to his face and laughs, and laughs hard. "Oh, and what are you going to do about it Mix n Match." The gray unicorn tries to show a scared face but cant due to his laughing. "Are you going to stop me?" The earth colt clenches his teeth in anger, not only was he getting his name wrong but he was mocking him trying to get a rise out of him...and it was working, and he didn't like it because it reminded him of Rumble and their fight that day. "Aww, am I making the wittle earth pony angry?" said Codex. "Careful now or you'll bust a blood vessel, hahaha!" he wipes a tear from his eye. "Well, Dine n’ Dash, it’s been fun and hey thanks for all the laughs, but I really must be getting back to my castle with my new waifu." He begins to grab Sweetie Belle with his magic. "Oh no, you don't!" cried Button Mash as charges towards the unicorn king. "You're not going anywhere Codex!!!" He tries to tackle him but Codex just sends the brown colt flying back with magic. "Yeah, don't know exactly what you were planning to do there Mutton Bash,” said the unicorn king unimpressed. "You see, I am a powerful unicorn and you are...umm...well I guess you're just I regular earth pony with no special abilities," he puts Sweetie Belle on his back. "So in other words, as long as I gots majicks you can’t beat me...loser." His horn turns blue as he starts to use his magic. "Be seeing ya, Rainbow Dash." And with that last word the unicorn king disappears with Sweetie Belle. Button Mash runs to the spot where Codex once stood. "DANG IT!!!" He yelled as he slaps his hooves to his face. "AAAAARRRRGGGHHHH I CANT BELIEVE I LET HIM GET AWAY WITH SWEETIE BELLE!!!" The poor earth pony sits down shaking his head. "Sigh, some boyfriend I turned out to be."   ...Button... "Huh? Who's there?" he said looking around.   Button... help... me… "Sweetie Belle... is that you?" Button said, surprised. "Where are you...? Are you ok?" Button...please...hurry "Sweetie, Sweetie... shoot, she's gone... Man, what am I doing?" said the brown pony as he stood up. "Sweetie Belle needs me more than ever and here I am sitting down in self-pity, but the question is how am I going to find them?" Hmm, let’s see he said that he had a castle so if I look for something that's off. He looks at the sky and sees that there was a spot of black clouds swirling over one spot with lightning coming down. "If all my years of playing video games have taught me anything..." He runs over to a cliff overlooking the landscape. "It is that swirling black clouds is where I'll find Codex." Button Mash sees a castle in the sky surrounded by four different islands with chains connected to the castle. "Something tells me that I won’t just be able knock on the castle doors. Hmmm..." he notices the four islands with the chains connected to the castle. "Maybe if I do something about those chains, then maybe I can enter the castle." Button Mash narrows his eyes at the castle. "Don't worry Sweetie Belle I'm going to save you!"  He runs off to the direction of the first island. And get ready Codex, because I'm coming for you! Saving... Save Completed...                                   > Green Garden (Patched) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Continuing on from last save point… Welcome back. Now Loading… Paradise Island. "Okay, now that I'm at the floating island… How do I get up there?" said Button Mash as he looked up at the floating island while scratching his head. "No wings, no unicorn magic, no good." He sighed as he began to pace. "Good job, Button,” he muttered to himself as he sat down on the ground. "Alright, let’s not overreact, maybe there is something here I can use," the brown pony reasoned. The earth colt looked around to see if there was anything around he could use to get up to the floating island, but was disappointed to find nothing. “Aww, horseapples,” he cursed under his breath before a certain wooden contraption captured his eye. He walked up to the catapult he just saw, putting a hoof on it. “Say, this looks familiar,” he said, drifting off to his memories. Three months ago. It was a sunny, spring day in Ponyville as four ponies stood in a large field with a large contraption sitting in front of them. Scootaloo trotted up to it and patted it thrice with a big goofy grin on her face. "Okay girls!” the orange pony enthusiastically began. “Ahem.” Scootaloo simply rolled her eyes. “And Button Mash.” “Thank you.” Not letting the interruption disrupt her mojo, Scootaloo climbed on a nearby stump elevating herself from her peers. “Today is the day we earn our cutie marks!” She motioned towards the large, wooden catapult, “and this baby is going to help us get them!”         The other three ponies looked at each other uneasily, none of them as eager as Scootaloo to do whatever it is she planned to do with a catapult. “Ummm… Scoots?” Applebloom said, “Ah’m not quite sure this is safe.” Sweetie Belle nodded her head in agreement. “I agree. Scootaloo, whatever you plan on doing doesn’t seem safe.” She resignedly took a seat on the field. “Maybe we should stop today and just try again tomorrow.” Scootaloo gasped at her friends. "Tomorrow...TOMORROW!? We'll never get our cutie marks if we always do everything tomorrow.," she shouted as she hit her hooves together. "We're doing this TODAY!" she harshly turned away from her friends. "But Scootaloo, this is fifth attempt today." whined Applebloom. "Ah'm tired, Sweetie's tired, Button's tired and not to mention, he needs a new bag of ice for his eye." The three fillies turned to look at Button, who only gave a sheepish smile as water began pouring down the ice pack placed on his left eye. Scootaloo hung her head down in anger. "Oh, I get it now," she muttered angrily. "You guys don't wanna hang out with me anymore, is that it?” “Scoots, I think you need to-” Sweetie Belle was cut off abruptly as Scootaloo opened her mouth again. “Maybe you found a new friend who isn't some Rainbow Dash fangirl.” The orange pegasus started crying. "WELL MAYBE YOU SHOULD GO AND LEAVE ME HERE ALL ALONE, I'LL FIND MY CUTIE MARK BY MYSELF!!!" Sweetie Belle and Applebloom looked at each other, confused by the turn of events. They then both looked at Button, who also had tears in his eyes and sadness written all over his face. This was not the standard melodramatic cry or the whiny cry Button Mash did, but he was simply standing there, sobbing as he watched Scootaloo lose it slowly. What they didn’t know is that he was sobbing for Scootaloo because he knew exactly how she must have felt at that moment. Betrayed by somepony you called your greatest friend. "Button?” Sweetie Belle called the brown pony, but he only stood there, not reacting. Worried, Sweetie Belle tried again. “Button, are you alright?” she asked, leaning closer to the colt. She did not get a reply. Button simply walked up to Scootaloo, put his forelegs around her and brought her in for a tight hug, which Scootaloo returns. Applebloom and Sweetie Belle follow suite, joining in the hug. “We know it must hurt right now,” Sweetie solemnly told her friend, “but we’ll always be here for you, if you need a shoulder to cry on or ears to listen.” Suddenly, Sweetie gives Button a quick peck to the cheek. “No matter how long it takes.” Present time He remembered that day. Just two days after his confrontation with Rumble, Scootaloo had gone on a cutie mark spree, trying each and every thing out there, no matter how crazy, dangerous or deadly it was. Maybe she was just trying to look strong, or prove that her ex-coltfriend didn’t slow her down, so one day she acquired a catapult, just to show that she wasn’t completely heartbroken, that she was ready to move on. But that was a lie… Just a big fat lie, at least right now. Button Mash wipes a tear from his eye. "Oh, come on Button Mash, there's no time to be reminiscing, there's work to be done!" he bonked himself on the head as he ran over towards the catapult. "Hmm, it looks like it’s already set to launch, so all I have to is just turn it around." Using his earth pony strength he turns the catapult around facing the island and hops inside it. "Alright, now all I have to do is pull this rope and off I go." But before he pulls it he remembers something that happened recently. I'm gonna get you back for punching me in the face.  He sighed sadly, reminded that another fight with Rumble was more than inevitable. He shook his head. No, there were more important things to do right now. Looking up, he took a deep breath, double-checked his aiming, and tugged on the rope with his mouth. In an instant, the familiar feeling of having his body touchign something disappeared as he was flung into the sky.         “WOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!” Now Loading... Green Garden. *SPLASH* "*GASP!* Well, that was an experience." Button Mash coughed, landing in a pond on the floating island. "Let’s never do that again." The soaked earth pony climbed to shore and started to shake some of the water of his coat. "Aw man, I was really lucky that I landed in water, and not solid ground." He rubs the back of his head. "Then again, water can hurt just as much solid ground… wait… MY HAT IS MISSING!" Button angrily kicked a rock. "I must've lost it when I was in the air. Oh that's just great!" Oh no, Button Mash lost his hat! Be careful little pony, because now you'll take double damage from enemies unless you find your hat. Better find it and fast! "Okay, not a problem." He calmly told himself.. "I'll just look around and-" The hatless pony looks at his surroundings to see if he could find his missing hat, but his jaw dropped when all he saw was grass that was slowly dying, trees that had no leaves on them, and flowers with the pedals slowly falling on the ground and the sky was a murky gray. "Whoa, what happened to this place?" Button Mash asked under his breath, feeling a little afraid. "And why does everything look dead?" He rubs his chin thoughtfully. "I have a very bad feeling about this." Seeing that there was nothing else here he decided walking away from the area, ignoring the dying landscape surrounding him. After fifteen minutes of walking, the mood of the land started to get to Button, and he started losing hope. “Ugh, this hopeless!” the brown pony thought to himself. His eyes lit up, however, when he saw some buildings in the distance. "Oh boy, a town!" he excitedly stated. "Maybe I can find out what's happening here." The young pony ran to the village with renewed vigor. "And maybe discover just where I am." Welcome to Green Village Button Mash was smiling as he entered the town with a confident stride as he went over his plan in his head; First, he was going to find out what's happening here. Secondly, find out where he is, And most importantly, maybe stop and get some food. He rubbed his stomach which growled violently in response. He was getting pretty hungry. With his plan in mind, he walks past the town gates. His smile faded and his spirit crushed once he walked past those gates, stopped dead in his tracks from what he saw. "W-what happened here?" he stuttered breathlessly as he looked at the scene before him. What Button Mash thought was a lively town was nothing more than just a delusion. Although there was many different races of ponies here. The earth colt saw a couple of things in common. They looked tired and their manes were a complete mess, but main thing that Button Mash saw was a grim reminder that the tyrannical unicorn king Codex wasn't lying when he said he ruled this world, and that apparently he liked banners of his face flying around. The villagers on the other hand, were very pitiful to look at. Aside from looking very ragged and dirty, they seemed exhausted and worked to the brink. Eye bags were a prominent sight and most of the ponies look lke they haven’t had a decent meal in weeks. Or any meal for that matter. "Hello there stranger," a mare’s voice pierced through Button’s thoughts. "Wahh!!" shrieked Button Mash as he clumsily jolted forward from the shock, only to fall flat on his face by accident. Embarrassed, the colt quickly got on his hooves and turned around to see the source of the voice. She was a young dark blue unicorn with a green mane and tired looking green eyes with bags forming under them. Button noticed her cutie mark was a music note, but he quickly diverted his eyes, lest his intentions be mistaken. On her back, she had two saddlebags with her cutie mark on each, like many other saddlebags he’s seen before. "Geez you startled me," he huffed, with his hoof to his chest still waiting for his heartbeat to slow down. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you,” she timidly apologized. “It’s just that we don’t get many visitors here, so I wanted to welcome you. Welcome to Green Village.” "Green Village?" She slowly nodded her head. "Yes, and although its seen better days, its still home." She shot Button a warm smile. "You must be weary from your travels… oh, I’m sorry, I forgot to ask your name." "Huh? Oh, my name is Button Mash,” Button replied, happy to see a friendly face. "Well, Button Mash, my name is Silver Song,” she cheerfully introduced herself. Right as Button was about to ask something, she put her hoof to her mouth and started coughing violently. The rest of her legs shook with every cough and eventually gave way, letting the mare fall to the ground still coughing. Button Mash quickly rushed over the unicorn writhing on the dirt. "Hey! Are you alright?" Button asked, worried about Silver. He obviously knew that she wasn't alright, but he didn't know what else to ask. "Should I get you some water?"     "No I just need to get home," Silver replied weakly. "I need to take care of my kids." "Y-y-y-you have kids?!" Button shrieked, obviously surprised. “You can’t be any older than I am!” The navy blue unicorn giggled at dumbfounded expression the brown earth pony wore. "It’s true, I'm only fourteen years old and here I am taking care of three kids all by myself,” she weakly chuckled before being interrupted by another fit of coughs. "Okay, that's it,” Button Mash lifted the mare onto his back. "I'm taking you home." He started walking but stopped after a few steps. "Uh, where exactly do you live?" "Just a couple of houses down from town square,” she giggled at the mistake of the colt, who just grinned as well. Button Mash began to walk again, only to stop once more. “Uhh, where is the town square?” The filly pointed her hoof towards the center of town. Button Mash nodded confidently, “Cool, I’ll have you there in no time!” After a few minutes of dead silence while walking, Button decided to try striking up a conversation. “So, do your parents at least help you take care of your foals.” "My parents have passed on." Button's ears immediately droop down and his expression gets sadder. "Oh… I’m sorry. I didn’t know.” "Its okay, Button." Silver sorrowfully told him. "You know, they're not really my kids and I do have some help raising them." She started to cough again. "I was just trying to keep my spirits up, because, well just look around you." Button Mash didn’t need to look. Hay, he didn’t want to look. But he had to. The ponies of Green Village looked so hopeless and depressed, not even one of Pinkie Pie’s famous parties could cheer them up. "Silver, what happened here?" She stays silent for a couple of seconds before she finally spoke. "Codex happened,” she stated. “A long time ago back when Green Village was a beautiful agricultural small town." "Ah, hence the name Green Village,” Button Mash inferred. "Yes, we were the ponies who grew the food for Paradise Island." "Paradise Island...?" Button Mash remembered that name. "Is that the name of the place below us?"   Sliver Song nodded slowly. "That's correct, I was born down there. My parents and I were farmers who helped grow crops." Silver sighed, her eyes staring towards the horizon as she remembered the better days. "The skies were blue, and grass was green, and everypony knew each other, it was paradise." She closed her eyes, her face curling up with painful memories. "But one day a gray unicorn appeared in our town, he called himself King Codex and that we were chosen to be his first subjects. Nopony actually took him seriously, we all just thought he was a crazy pony, and well, you saw how that turned out. He made a sky with no sun. No sun, nothing grows. Everything just started dying slowly."   "Sliver, how long has this been going on?" She doesn't didn’t her eyes. "Codex took over when I was seven years old, both of my parents died when I was nine, and I found my first child when I turned ten." Button Mash gasped in complete horror. He rarely miscalculated, but he never miscalculated this bad before. He had previously thought the village had no decent meals for months, but given the information he knew now, it might have been years. "But how?" "Everyday, in center of town square, Black Breath, one of Codex’s lieutenants, offers food to those who would swear allegiance to his king. At first, many of us resisted but as time passed, more and more ponies submitted to Codex.." “So that's how he's doing it. He's starving them to break their will. Codex when I get my hooves on you…!” Button growled under his breath. The two continued down until they reached town square of Green Village. It was barren, almost no shops unlike most town squares, save for a white earth pony with a red mane, smugly standing beside a cart filled with food, with five more behind him. Surrounding him were five guards, all in black armor, spears pointed forward. They were unlike the villagers in the fact that they looked completely healthy and clean. In front of them was a crowd of starving villagers, listening intently to every word the white pony said. “Alright, alright, so who wants to have a good meal tonight?!” the white pony cheerfully called out like one of those gameshow hosts Button had seen his mom watch in the afternoons. Except he wasn’t talking to a contestant, he was talking to a bunch of malnourished villagers, making his cheer way out of place. "That's him,” the filly on Button’s back hissed, “Black Breath.” Her eyes fell on the crowd of the hungry ponies in the crowd. "You know Button, sometimes I want to give in too, to say that I submit to Codex's rule so that I, Golden Heart and our kids can have a decent meal. Even just for one night” "SISTER!!!" Button Mash turned around to the sound of the voice, making sure that Silver Song can also see from his back. "Big sis, I finally found you!" He was a young Pegasus pony who was about eight years old, he had a light blue coat, brown eyes and a jet black mane with a green spinning propeller cap on top… Wait a minute. Silver Song gets off Button's back and greets the young colt with a smile. "Hello there, Thunderbird.” She turned to Button and introduced him, "Button Mash this is Thunderbird, Golden Heart's younger brother.” Thunderbird turned to the older brown colt and shot a very cold glare. "You’re not going take away my brother's wife are you?" "Uhhh… No?" The young colt breathed a sigh of relief. "Good, because he works really hard to support our new family since our parents died." Button Mash didn't hear that last part. He was too focused on the hat on Thunderbird's head. "Hey, can I ask you a question Thunderbird?" "Sure. I guess." "Where did you find that hat?" Thunderbird takes off his hat and smiles at it. "You like it huh?" He said. "It just fell from the sky." He holds it close to his chest. "Its my good luck charm, If I wear it maybe our family will have a decent meal tonight when my brother returns." "I see, well you better put it back on then," Button bent down a bit, leveling his grin to the face of the young pegasus. "If you keep it off too long it will ruin your luck." "I submit to Lord Codex." A female voice interrupted the three young ponies. They looked back at the crowd of hungry souls that stood before Black Breath. "And a another one sees the light,” Black Breath smiled. He gives the poor mare a bag full of delicious food. "Remember, my little pony, that King Codex loves you." Black Breath said with a warm smile. "And he just want's you to be happy and safe, and all you have to do is just accept him as your king." The poor mare starts to cry as she looked at the bag she held in her hooves. "Look how she cries tears of joy at the wonderful gift Lord Codex has given her!" Black Breath zealously raised a hoof in the air. "Now go! Let you and your family enjoy a wonderful feast granted by Lord Codex's generous heart." She didn’t say anything, she merely looked back at the crowd, whose lifeless, hungry eyes met with hers. And another one submits to the Unicorn King. Some would think that she was weak for giving in, others might think that she was strong for doing something that fed her family. The poor pony runs away from the crowd, unable to show her face.             "Now who else wishes to..." "Sir Black Breath,” one of the guards stoically interrupted the preacherous pony. In his hooves was a scared little unicorn filly, her red coat dirtied and ragged, and her pink mane not doing a good job of hiding the fear in her eyes. “What is it you want, my little pony,” the lieutenant benevolently asked, his warm smile not changing at all. “Is this what you search for?” He pulled out a carrot from the cart, and reached it out towards the unicorn. She slowly reaches for the carrot in Black Breath's hoof, but before she can grab it, he drops it on the ground. “Oh, silly me,” Black Breath mockingly apologized. “I must have the dropsies today,” he laughed. As if that wasn’t enough, Black Breath violently stepped on the carrot, crushing it to pieces, mixing it in with the dirt. “Oh dear,” he sadistically grinned, “I really must watch my step.”         The carrot was already dirty, the orange of it stained with the brown and black of the earth, but that didn’t matter. The young unicorn weakly grabbed it, tried to scrape of the grime on it to no avail, and then she proceeds to eat it.         “Delicious, isn’t it?” The lieutenant could barely hold his laughter, leaning in closer to the filly while still giving that warm, mocking smile.         The young unicorn didn’t reply. She simply continued eating while sobbing ever so softly. The residents of Green Village had seen this scene unravel to many times, enough for it to be considered an ‘everyday occurrence.’ Although for Button Mash, this was beyond twisted and cruel. He was clenching his teeth hard in anger at the pitiful scene of injustice that he just witnessed. "That's it." He picked up a moderately sized rock with his mouth and flung it towards the smug earth pony, which connected with a loud crack. Black Breath rubbed his face is pain, his calm and cheery demeanor now broken. "WHO THREW THAT?!?!" The stallion cried in anger towards the crowd. A brown earth colt steps in front of the massive crowd. "That would be me,” a determined looking Button Mash emerged through the crowd, his eyes glaring at the lieutenant and his guards. Game Paused. > Green Garden Act 2 (Patched) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Resuming Game... "YOU!!! HOW DARE YOU!!!” Black Breath was seething with rage, eyes pointed towards the young brown colt. "YOU DARE TO STRIKE ME, BLACK BREATH? TRUSTED MESSENGER FOR GREAT LORD CODEX!!!"   Button Mash rubbed his right ear nonchalantly, clearly unimpressed. “You don’t need to yell, I’m right here.” The colt shot a glare of his own towards the angry figure in front of him, “Also, I don’t appreciate that you made a little filly cry, so why don’t you pick on somepony your own size!”   The crowd of ponies backed away slowly from the scene unfolding, careful not to be identified alongside the crazy brown pony. Murmurs filled the air as the crowd began chatting among themselves "Is he insane?" "Who is he and what is he doing?" "I can’t believe he did that, what is he trying to achieve?" Meanwhile, Silver Song was just staring at the commotion her new friend started, not a word coming out of her. She stood there, as if rooted to her position, paying no mind to the young pegasus tugging at her leg. “Silver, what’s Button doing?” Thunderbird asked as he tried to pull Silver, undecided whether he’s curious or afraid. Silver acted as if she didn’t hear the question, her eyes glued to the face-off between Button and Black Breath and his guards. "So, you don’t like how I show that living under Lord Codex is a blessing?” Black Breath gave a small laugh, as if the very idea was unheard of. He dramatically climbed on top of the food court, looking down at Button Mash. “If only they would accept King Codex rules this world, they wouldn’t have to suffer anymore,” the pony on the cart preached, “believe it or not, my lord cares about his ponies, and it breaks his heart to see them resist. Button Mash motioned for the filly to run away. She nodded, and quickly left with the dirty carrot still in her mouth. "Ya know what breaks my heart, Black Breath?" Button Mash practically growled out the question through clench teeth. "Making little fillies cry while preaching on how great that loser Codex is, how much of a tool can you be Black Breath?" The white pony’s right eye started twitching in frustration. "LOSER?! WHY YOU LITTLE EARTH COLT PEASANT, HOW DARE YOU CALL THE GREAT LORD KING CODEX A LOSER?!" He took a deep breath and exhaled, his face once again donning that mask of calmness and regality. "You know what, I don't even know why I'm getting so worked up over this," he chuckled. “Oh guards!” The three guards stepped forward, placing themselves between Black Breath and Button Mash. “Children of Lord Codex,” Black Breath addressed his guards, much like how a general would address an army, “the loyal enforcers of his will. Today, your great king's good name has been defiled by this… this scum,” the stallion made sure to add venom to that word, “today will your finest hour as you defend your king's honor from this rebellious youth. TODAY WILL BE THE DAY THAT- AAAAAUUGGGGGHHH." Black Breath covered his mouth in pain, eyeing the brick which just flew towards his face. Button Mash stood there with a smirk painted across his face. “Black Breath shuts up,” he finished.         The crowd started dispersing quickly, already aware of what was about to transpire. The white earth pony removed his hoof from his mouth, letting a few teeth fall out. For a while, Black Breath did nothing but stare at the pearly whites that dropped onto the ground, mouth agape in shock. A few seconds later, he looked up back at the earth pony who knocked his teeth out, giving him a calm smile. “You knocked my teeth out. You took a brick, threw it at me and knocked my teeth out.” He started to laugh jollily, causing Button Mash to follow with an uncomfortable laugh. “GUARDS!” Black Breath bellowed, his jolly expression switching to one of anger and hatred faster than Rainbow Dash could fly, “SEIZE HIM!” The three guards rushed towards Button Mash, spears poised to strike and eyes hungry for action. "Thunderbird, take Silver Song and get to safety!" Button Mash yelled at the young pegasus who was watching in the sidelines. He took a stance and braced himself for the oncoming bout with the armored stallions, a small smile making its way to his face as he remembered an old memory that was similar to this. Ponyville, three months ago... It was a beautiful spring day in the small town of Ponyville, Princess Celestia's sun was shining brightly and a gentle breeze was flowing in the air and all was well in the town. "I'm telling you, duuude,” a teal pony slurred to her friend, trying to convince her. “They spoke to me in my dreams. I’m like, the chosen one. You gotta believe me, Bonnie!” "Lyra, seriously,” the blue/pink maned mare rolled her eyes, “if anything, that was Princess Luna talking to you in your dreams again.” Lyra stuttered out her response, “B-b-bu-b-but the chosen one Bon Bon!” "Lyra did you take your medication this morning?" Bon Bon gave her an accusing glare. "Uh...Maybe?" "Lyra,” Bon Bon sternly said, her eyes narrowing. "But it tastes funny." Yep, just another normal day in Ponyville. "BUTTON! RUMBLE! STOP!” Sweetie Belle shrieked in her high pitched voice, frantically watching the situation get out of hand. "WHAT THE HAY RUMBLE!?" Button Mash thundered. "Why would you say such horrible things about Scootaloo? She's your fillyfriend man!" The gray pegasus growled viciously as his eye started to twitch. "Listen carefully Button Mash, cause I'm going to say this one last time." His right hoof stomps angrily on the ground with every word. “SHE. IS. NOT. MY. FILLYFRIEND ANYMORE.” He shook his hoof in frustration. "I am so sick and tired of her thinking that she owns me, that I actually want to go crusading for something that's going to get old in five minutes, how she always talks about that loser Rainbow Dash." Rumble gave Button Mash a very cold glare. "But worst of all, I hate how she always compared me to you." It was a lunch break out in the field of Cheerilee’s School House. The red mare was busy inside the schoolhouse checking tests and grading projects, while her students enjoyed a peaceful recess. Little did she know of the violent arguement that erupted between the two best friends. "Don't look so surprised Button Mash,” Rumble smirked coolly. "She talked about you a lot, how you always do everything for Sweetie Belle and how I should be more like you." The pegasus began chuckling to himself, “Fine, I hate her, alright!” Rumble’s grin began growing wider, “Oh, that felt good to let out! I hate her, I hate her, I hate her!” Everytime he repeated that phrase, he seemed to get happier and happier, while Button and Sweetie looked more and more shocked. Sweetie Belle just stood still, mind blank at what she just heard the ex-coltfriend of one of her best friends say about her. Good thing Scootaloo isn’t here, I don’t think she could handle this. Even I can’t, and it’s not directed at me. Sweetie’s trance was shattered when Rumble started talking again. "And you know what else Button Mash? I HATE YOU TOO!!!” The entire class instantly dropped what they were doing and silence overtook the field. Swings stopped swinging, seesaws stopped teetering, laughter and chattering instantly stopped, lunches dropped on the table and eyes turned towards the earth pony and the pegasus. The air was so tense that it was getting hard for anypony to breathe. They just witnessed Rumble, the first friend of the ex-recluse Button Mash who came to Ponyville eight years ago, confess that he hated him. "You… hate me?” Button Mash’s eyes were glued to the floor, his words betraying the shakiness in his voice. "Rumble, sweetie, that’s enough.” "Yeah, I’m gonna have to agree with Silvy on that one." The fuming pegasus turned towards his girlfriend and her best friend, known by the class as the ‘Terrible Two’, Diamond Tiara and her right hoof mare Silver Spoon.   "Come on Rumble,” begged Silver Spoon. "Let’s go somewhere else, you said what was on your mind. It’s over now." Diamond Tiara walked beside her. "That's right Rumble, let’s go eat lunch with your new girlfriend, away from all this drama,” she said, each word brimming with disinterest, eliciting a nasty look from Silver Spoon. "What?" Diamond shrugged. "I don't like drama." Rumble sighed, starting to calm down. "Yeah, alright babe, let’s go-OOMPH!" The entire class gasped at what happened next. Even Sweetie Belle didn't see coming and if Scootaloo and Apple Bloom were here they wouldn't believe it either. Button Mash just punched Rumble in the face. The earth colt gasped, fully processing what he had just done. "R-Rumble I'm so sorry, I-I didn't-" He didn't finish his apology as Rumble retaliated with a punch of his own. It was as if time was moving in slow motion as the class anticipated what would happen next. Dinky dropped her muffin and just watched the scene, not even bothering to swallow the bits of the pastry still in her mouth. Silver Spoon started hugging Diamond Tiara tightly. Shady Daze and Pipsqueak quickly hopped of the seesaw they were in and dashed towards the one of the lunch tables, careful not to get caught in the crossfire. Sweetie Belle started to cry, because in all the years that she knew Button Mash, from the annoying little colt with a crush to her eventual coltfriend, she never saw him so angry, and it scared her. "Button… Button, please don't..." She was too late, as punch after punch came from each colt and their five years of being best friends ended.   Button Mash shook his head violently. Why was he thinking about that now? What even possessed him to think about that right now? Here he was, about defend himself from big burly guards, clad in huge black metal armor and deadly spears and he thought about his fight with Rumble. Button quickly snapped out of it and turned his attention back to the matter at hoof, the three guards closing in on him. "FOR THE GLORY OF LORD CODEX!!!" One of the guard yelled, thrusting his spear downwards towards the young colt. Button Mash quickly stepped back, eyeing the spear that sparked as it clashed with the ground in front of him. He quickly scrambled under the guard, still trying to get a grip on his spear again, and bucked upwards, sending the black-armored stallion’s helmet flying off and knocking him out. The second guard scowled at Button Mash, preparing to impale him with his spear to avenge his comrade. Quickly thinking, Button Mash grabbed the spear of the knocked out guard with his mouth and swung it around like a sword, the heavy spear clanging as it shellshocked the guard’s helmet. The remaining soldier watched in horror as his brother-in-arms crumpled to the ground.         The last guard gave an unsure look to Black Breath, and then looked at the brown colt, who still had the spear gripped tightly in his teeth. He figured he could beat the foal, but still… given what he managed to do to his comrades, there was still a chance that he would lose. Now he was just wondering whether he should risk it. “Well?” Black Breath scoffed at the guard. “Get him you buffoon!”         The guard huffed indignantly, glaring at the white stallion. “Not worth it,” he muttered quietly before he turned tail and galloped away. "HEY!!! COME BACK AND FIGHT!!!" yelled Black Breath as he watched the guard run further and further away. He slammed his hoof on the cart he was on in frustration then growled, “That’s it, if you want something done right, looks like you have to do it yourself!” He glared at Button Mash and jumped off his cart, landing on the ground with a big thud. “Prepare yourself child, I shall teach you what happens to those who defy their king!” Messenger of Darkness         Black Breath "So, finally decided to do your own dirty work eh, Black Breath?" Button Mash teased him with a grin as he stroked his mane back. "Well come on then, let’s get it over with." "YOU SHALL NOT MAKE A FOOL OF ME!” The white pony cried regally, charging towards the colt in a fit of rage. Button simply sidestepped, slightly tripping up his attacker with his hoof, causing him to lose his balance. Black Breath growled after he regained his footing, intent on turning right around and trying again. Suddenly, he felt two hooves wrap around him, and he felt himself flying for a second as Button delivered a solid Germane suplex. The next thing Black Breath felt before blacking out was his head smashing on the ground. Button Mash shook his head in disappointment. “Really? Is that all?” He let go of Black Breath and sat on the ground next to the pony who just got smashed to the floor. “My girlfriend puts on a better fight than you, ya know?” he grinned as he cocked his head to the side, looking at Black Breath’s unconcious body. “Hello,” he said in a voice as if he was addressing a littly baby, “what’s this?” He leaned in closer to the two keys lying by Black Breath. “Huh, one of them must be for the carts.” "BUTTON!!! OHMYGOSHAREYOUALRIGHT?” A young pegasus ran up to him, grabbing his attention away from the keys.. Button Mash looked down at the young colt and gave a smile. "Of course," he smugly smiled, “he didn’t even stand a chance against me. Anyway, where’s Silver Song?” "I'm right here, Button Mash,” she interrupted, walking towards the two ponies. “So, where did you learn to do those amazing moves?” She looked at the four unconcious bodies lying in the town square. The victorious earth pony rubbed his head sheepishly. "Well back home me and my girlfriend used to wrestle from time to time, and well uh...." He shook his head, "but never mind that, WHO'S HUNGRY!!!" The crowd slowly creeped out of their houses, crowding around the scene that just unfolded. The crowd started reforming again, none of them sure of what happened with the guards, and none of the sure about the brown stranger who just came to their town. They did notice one thing though, the keys in his mouth which Black Breath uses to unlock the carts. After a long moment of awkward silence, a dirty mare finally stepped forward from the crowd, looking as grungy and malnourished as everypony else. "Please sir, we are so very hungry." She bowed before Button Mash tearing up a little. "Have mercy on us. We just want something to eat. We don’t want to serve Codex at all," she pleaded, assuming that Button was an enemy of Codex. Button Mash glanced at Silver Song and Thunderbird, the former who just nodded, then back to the bowing mare. “Alright,” he said, putting a hoof on her shoulder. “But on one condition.” The mare looked up to Button, fear written all over her eyes, before quickly bowing down reverently once more. “Anything you wish milord.” "Make sure you guys forgive those that gave in, alright?” he smiled at her. “Oh, and don’t call me a lord,” he chuckled as he flung the keys towards her. She looked at Button Mash with an expression that has not been seen in the town for a very very long time. “Thank you,” she cried, tears streaming down her face.        It was genuine happiness. "You're welcome,” he returned the smile, a warm feeling erupting in his chest as he watched the town gather around the carts, taking some food for themselves but leaving some for the others. He smiled as he saw colts and fillies smile when their parents approach them with apples and carrots. It reminded him of his own family back home. “I wonder how they’re doing,” he thought out loud. "Hey Button are you alright?" Button turned to find Silver Song coming from the carts,. staring at him with concern. "Huh? Oh yeah, I'm fine Silver. Nothing to worry about," he lied, waving his hoof dismissively. She patted the bags on her back. "Well anyway, thanks to you, Golden Heart, the kids and I will eat well tonight. You've made a lot ponies happy today Button." Thunderbird jumped up and down fluttering his wings. "Hey Silver, can Button join us for dinner pleeeaase?" he begged, looking up at Silver with puppy dog eyes. Silver Song smiled at Button Mash. "Well, what do you say Button? We would love it if you could join us for dinner, and we live not far from here." "Hmm, well I don't know if-" *RUMBLE* Button Mash quickly covers his stomach with his hooves and blushed as the Silver and Thunderbird laughed. "Okay, I’m convinced,” he joined in their laughter. Saving Game... Save Completed... > Green Garden Act 3 (Patched) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now Loading… Green Village "Well here we are,” Silver Song cheerily said as she opened the modest wooden door with a brown pony and light blue pegasus trailing behind her. “Home sweet home.” Thunderbird hopped around Button Mash excitedly with the propeller cap spinning faster and faster with every hop. "Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, Misty and Dazzler are going to be so excited tonight!" The young pegasus colt rushed inside the house. "Come on Button!" "Okay, okay, I'm coming,” Button grinned, looking at the small wooden house. Actually, he would say it was more of a cottage than a house. "Huh, I wonder if its bigger on the inside?" he wondered to himself as he walked in the house. It wasn't. In fact, it looked smaller on the inside. There was no furniture except a fire pit with a small cauldron in the middle, and a hallway that led to two rooms. Silver Song puts her bags on the floor. "Misty, Dazzler, come to the front room please,” she called out in a sing along tune. "I have a surprise for you!" Two young little fillies came out of one of the rooms rubbing the sleep from their eyes. One of the was a light blue unicorn with violet mane and had light green eyes, and the second one was a white earth pony with a red mane and blue eyes. And like all the other townsponies in Green Village looked very thin. Button Mash rubs his chin in thought, he didn't know why, but those two ponies looked oddly familiar somehow. " What is it mommy?" asked the light blue unicorn. "Did you find us some food?" Silver Song smiled brightly as she took out two carrots from her bag. "That's right Misty, here eat this until I get dinner started." She gave the other one to the earth filly. "You too Dazzler." The two fillies looked at their food, then at each other, then at Silver Song. "Mommy, wh-where did you get this?" Misty asked unsurely. "Because it looks like food that Black Breath creep would give out if you said that Codex was your king." "Oh no." Gasped Dazzler. "Mama Silver, please tell us you didn't give in, It would break Golden Heart's, well, heart." Thunderbird laughs at his younger siblings. "Really, you two know that Silver would never submit to Codex." He jumps on Button Mash's back. "And besides, we have Button Mash to thank for the food." The two girls look at Button Mash with a look of disapproval on their faces. "Don't worry, he's not trying to steal Silver from my brother." Silver Song rubs her forehead in exasperation as her two girls frowns instantly turn into smiles. "Oh, well in that case..." The blue unicorn walked up to their new guest and points her left hoof towards herself. "My name is Misty and I'm nine years old." "And I'm Dazzler and I'm nine too,” her earth pony sister added. Button Mash smiled at the two young fillies and proceeded to introduce himself. "Hi, I'm Button Mash, I'm fourteen years old and I like video games." Dazzler, Misty, Thunderbird, and Silver Song looked at Button Mash with the utmost confusion on their faces. "What's a video game?" Misty asked. Thunderbird hopped up and down. "Oh oh I know I know!" He exclaimed. "Please, enlighten us then Thunderbird,” Silver Song encouraged her brother. The pegasus colt crossed his hooves as he confidently gave his answer. “It’s where Button Mash learned all of his cool fighting moves,” he did different karate poses for emphasis, “right Button?” Button Mash coughed on his hoof. "Err, right." He’d rather not remind them it was his girlfriend who taught him most of those moves. "Interesting,” mused Silver Song as she rubbed her chin in thought. "Did you play these video games a lot Button?" The earth pony's face ligt up like a happy colt who got exactly what they wanted for Hearths Warming Day. "Oh yeah, all the time,” he said. "When I was eight I would play them all the time, sometimes even pull some all-nighters." "See, I told you!" Thunderbird excitedly chimed in. "That's how he was able to beat Black Breath and his guards so easily." "Yeah, those were the days," Button spaced out as his smile becomes a little less bright. "But then I got older and had more responsibilities, got a fillyfriend, and started focusing more on my schoolwork and other things rather than playing video games. I guess I've been too busy to play them now." He leans his head on his hoof still smiling. The four ponies look at Button Mash while he's lost in his thoughts. "Well I guess I better get dinner started," Silver said as she looked out the window. "Golden Heart will be home soon." She takes a small bucket and heads out the door leaving Button Mash and the three young ponies in the front room. "Hey Button tell us about your fillyfriend,” Misty coaxed as she snapped Button out of his thoughts. ”I bet she must be really pretty." Button Mash nodded slowly. "Yep very pretty, the most beautiful unicorn I ever known, the lovely Sweetie Belle," he said with a smile. "Ya know, sometimes I don't know what she sees in a dork like me..." Dazzler waves a hoof at him. "Oh please, you seem pretty cool to me." "Oh really?" Button chortled. "Oh, look at my little baby," Milano cooed with happiness as she fixed her youngest son’s tie. "Going on his very first date with Sweetie Belle." She took off his propeller cap, placed it on the table and began to brush his mane. "Keep it up Button and you'll end up like your brother." Her face turned into smirk as if she were planning something. "And your father and I will have a new daughter-in-law." Button Mash rolled his eyes at his mother's plans for a new daughter-in-law. Just because his brother is getting married this summer didn't mean that she had to plan so far ahead. "Mom, it’s just dinner." He glanced down at the suit he was wearing. "And do I really have to wear this monkey suit?" He looks at himself in the mirror as he pulls on the collar on the fancy black suit he was wearing. "It’s kind of stuffy." Milano slapped his hoof away. "Yes you do! You know that Rarity is going to make Sweetie Belle look like a goddess." She stopped brushing his mane and gave him a bouquet of red roses. "Now off you go. It would be quite rude to keep a lady waiting," she reminded, sounding more and more like Rarity as she pushed Button Mash out the door. "And good luck." "Thanks Mom! Oh and tell dad thanks for the suit," Button yelled as he walked away from his house. "Alright Button, you've been waiting for this since last summer,” he told himself as he walked towards Carousel Boutique to get his date. "Let’s make this a night to remember." The earth pony walks towards his objective looking at the starry night sky. "What a perfect Sunday night, Princess Luna did a superb job tonight,” he remarked.     "Oh, hey Button Mash." Button Mash looked over to see that a familiar orange pegasus was walking towards him. "Oh, hi there Scootaloo. What can I do for you?" he politely greeted. "What are you doing out here?" she asked. "I thought you would be at home playing video games with Rumble." "What? No," Button answered with some confusion. "I told him that me and Sweetie Belle are going out tonight." Scootaloo looked even more confused. "You and Sweetie Belle going out tonight, are you sure?" She checked out the suit Button Mash was wearing. "And what with the suit?" "Like I said, me and Sweetie Belle are going on a date tonight." He repeated. The orange slowly looked down. "It’s just that when I asked him if he wanted to hang out tonight he told me that he would be playing video games with you." She raised her eyes up to level with Button Mash, obviously a bit hurt. "Hey Button, you don't… you don't think he lied to me do you?" "Rumble... lie?" Button started to chuckle lightly. "Scootaloo, we both know Rumble can’t lie to save his life. He probably just forgot." Scootaloo didn't look away, her gaze intensifying. "But I haven't been seeing him around recently." A Scootaloo’s eyes began shining with tears being held in. "Today was the first time I saw him in two weeks, and he says he's over your house so he can’t hang out tonight.” She shuts her eyes tight, letting a few tears escape before opening them again. "Button, do you think he's avoiding me?" Button Mash raised an eyebrow. "Scootaloo, I don't think Rumble would ever avoid you." He put a reassuring hoof around Scootaloo, calming her down.. "He's probably been busy doing stuff, now go home and get some rest, I'm pretty sure that this is all just one big misunderstanding." "Okay… okay maybe you're right Button, maybe I'm overreacting." She took a deep, exasperated breath before walking towards her home. "I'll see you at school tomorrow, and good luck on your date." Button Mash waved her goodbye and continued on towards Carousel Boutique. "I am finished,” announced a purple maned unicorn. "Button Mash is going to pass out when he sees you Sweetie Belle." Sweetie Belle looked at herself in the mirror quite confidently, admiring her sister’s work. "Rarity, Button Mash is going to worship the ground I walk on after he sees me.” The filly chuckles to herself, "Poor little Button baby won’t know what hit him." Rarity sniffed and wiped a tear from her eye rather dramatically. "I have taught you well Sweetie Belle." *DING DONG*  , "Ah, that must be my escort for the night," Sweetie Belle rubbed her hooves together, a playful grin forming on her face. "I hope you’re ready Button." She walked over towards the door and opened it. Leaning on the door frame with his eyes closed wearing a sharp black tuxedo and a bouquet of red roses stood Button Mash. "Good evening Sweetie Belle," he said coolly as he gave her the roses. "I hope you'll find my offering acceptable." Button Mash finally opened his eyes and saw that Sweetie Belle looked absolutely stunning. She was wearing a sapphire blue dress that sparkled like the stars above when the moon would shine on it, her long mane flowed in the gentle breeze like a leaf riding in the wind, and her jade green eyes meeting Button’s amber eyes. "How do I look?" Button Mash stared at his date, still speechless. "Well, Button aren't you going to say something?" Sweetie Belle giggled, blushing slightly at his reaction. The earth pony’s eyes rolled into the back of his head and he collapsed on the ground with a thud. "Told you, Sweetie Belle," Rarity clucked as she went into her kitchen to grab a bag of ice for the unconscious Button Mash. "And she never let me live it down." Button rubbed his mane in embarrassment. "She said that she never laughed so hard in her life." "Then what happened?" Misty asked, enthralled by Button's story. He scratched his chin in thought. "Well after I woke up from my sudden nap, Rarity told me it was midnight and that I've been knocked out for four hours." "Yeeach,” Dazzler grimaced. "All those dating plans down the drain." The brown earth colt rolled his eyes. "Oh, you have no idea," he bleated, eliciting laughter from the three foals in the room. The front door opened revealing a familiar blue unicorn. "Okay, everypony I'm back,” Silver happily greeted while she carried a small bucket. "I got some water, so I can make some vegetable soup tonight." She poured the water into the cauldron and lights the wood on the bottom with magic. "So what did I miss?" "Nothing much, just telling a little story about how cool I am." Button playfully boasted. "Yeah. If passing out on your first date for four hours counts as cool, then yeah you’re sooo cool Button,” retorted Dazzler. Button Mash shook his hoof in fake anger at the little earth filly. "It was my first date, give me a break." "And I'm sure you made quite the first impression,” Dazzler deadpanned, earning chuckles from her two siblings The brown pony sighed and facehoofed in defeat. "Alright now Dazzler," Silver chuckled as she dumps the vegetables into the cauldron. "Let’s not embarrass the one who gave us our meal tonight." She grabbed a wooden spoon and began to stir the soup. "Just give me a few minutes and dinner will be ready." "Oh boy!" Thunderbird exclaimed energetically. "Big Bro is going to be so surprised." Meanwhile, on the outskirts of town, a tan pegasus was quietly walking home. He stroked his fiery red mane in frustration as he stared at his saddlebag, emblazoned with a golden heart just like his cutie mark. "I can’t believe all I got for today was a single darn tomato." He sighed defeatedly, turning his eyes towards the town. "What’s the point? I know Silver and the kids believe in me..." As he approached Green Village, the tears in his eyes were becoming more and more. "But how am I supposed to feed them with this?" He walked in to town, not noticing the happier mood the small town was in. "I guess I have no choice. As much as I don't want to, and I really don't want to, I will give in to Codex." He walks towards town square with his eyes closed, bracing himself for what he was about to do. "Black Breath is going to have a field day with this." He slowly opened his eyes. And saw five empty carts just sitting there. "Uhh... what's going on?" gulped Golden Heart. "Shouldn't Black Breath be here?" He walked over towards the empty carts in confusion.  "What happened here?" He looked around to see if anypony could tell him what had transpired, and to his luck sees a stallion walking past. "Excuse me sir, but do you know what happened here?" Golden Heart asked. The stallion gave him a surprised look. "You don't know what happened? It’s the biggest story in town!"   Golden Heart just shook his head. "Well, you know how Black Breath always comes to town and offers food to those who give in right?" "Yes I know about that," nodded Golden Heart. The stallion looks around to see if anypony was listening. "Well today a young brown earth colt came into town and saw what Black Breath what doing. When he saw the Messenger of Darkness cruelly try to break a little filly’s spirit, he just lost it and challenged Black Breath, plowing through him and his guards with the strength of a raging volcano!"     Golden Heart looks back at the five empty carts. "He looks like he cleaned up alright," he commented. Suddenly, the realization just hit him. “Wait, if he beat them…. Did Black Breath drop a key?”   The stallion shrugged nonchalantly at Golden Heart's question. "I don't know. If he did, that new pony must have it. Why do you ask?" The excited pegasus ignored the question and grabbed the shoulders of the stallion with both hooves. “Is he still here? Oh, please tell me he’s still here. Where did he go?    "Yes, he's still here,” said the stallion, brushing off the pegasus’ hooves. "He left with a blue colored unicorn mare and a young pegasus colt." "Wait, did this unicorn have a note for a cutie mark?" Golden Heart had an idea of who he might be talking about. "Ummm…  yes?" the stallion answered unsurely. Golden Heart leaped into the air, wings beating with glee. "Alright Silver!" He shook the stallion’s hoof. "Thank you, sir, for the help." With his questions answered Golden Heart began to run home as fast as his legs could take him. It’s that key we need. That’s the key to all of our problems. "Okay, who's hungry?" Silver asked, smiling as she reaches for a ladle. "We have a lot of food so let’s enjoy it."   Misty, Dazzler and Thunderbird each grabbed a bowl and sat in front of Silver Song. "Here you go kids, enjoy." The trio each thanked Silver, found a place to sit down and to began to eat their meal. "Here you go, Button." She slides him a bowl of hot vegetable soup. "Without you this meal wouldn't be possible." Button Mash humbly accepted the bowl of soup. "Thank you Silver." He took a look at bowl of soup, noticing that it is nothing more than vegetables placed in hot water. Don’t be rude Button, he reminded himself, accept their hospitality. "Mmm, this so delicious Silver." Button Mash glanced over to the three kids who were enjoying their meal with smiles on their faces. He couldn't help but feel good about himself. It was just like his father says, Something something good deed something something feel good about yourself or something. Button Mash shook away the thoughts from head. "Well, down the hatch." He pressed the edge of the bowl to his lips and- "HEY SILVER! I'M HOME!" The sudden sound of a door slamming open and pony yelling caused a certain brown pony to panic, splashing hot soup all over his face.   "YOOOOOOWCH!!! HOT! HOT! HOT!" Button Mash shrieked. "Well, hello there Golden Heart,” Silver Song approached the stallion and she snuggled his cheek lovingly. "BIG BRO!" Thunderbird ran and caught his brother in a hug. "Bro, you'll never guess what happened today!" Golden Heart ruffled his younger brother’s mane. "There's no need to tell me sport." He looked over at Button Mash who was holding his chest in pain. "So, you're the one that stallion was talking about, the one who defeated Black Breath."   "Yep! He's the one who showed Black Breath what's what,” chimed Thunderbird. "He was all like ‘POW!’ ‘SMACK!’ ‘TAKE THAT!’, and Black Breath was all like, ‘Ahhhrrggghhh Button Mash, you will pay for defiling the name of Codex’, and Button was all like, ‘yeah whatever, KAPOW!"  He fell on his back with his tongue hanging out of his mouth for dramatic effect. Golden Heart walks up to Button Mash, eyeing him with interest. "Is that right? Well, Button Mash, any enemy of Codex is a friend of ours." "Eh, it was my pleasure, besides he has my fillyfriend, and we have some unfinished business,” Button said. Golden Heart's face lit up at the prospect of having an ally to fight against Codex. If he defeated Black Breath then maybe he could help us and the entire town. "Hey, Button did you take a key from Black Breath?" "Well yeah, I used one to open the carts," he recalled, pulling out the second key still in his possession. "As for this one, I have no idea where it goes or what it unlocks." "Button, that key unlocks the vault where Black Breath stores all the food," Golden Heart said breathlessly, eyes twinkling at the sight of the key. "If you truly wish to oppose Codex, then help me free this land from his tyranny." Button looked at the key, then back at Golden Heart. "When do we leave?" "So, you'll help me? That's great!" Golden Heart exclaimed. "We leave immediately." He walked up to the door. "Let me know when you're ready." Misty, Dazzler and Thunderbird walk over towards Button Mash. "Wow Button, you're going to bring food back for the entire town again?" Misty asked. "I don't think that Codex would like having his authority challenged very much,” reasoned Dazzler. "Go and give him a reality check, and tell him it’s his turn to pay the bill." Thunderbird leapt in the air. "No more hungry nights." He patted his propeller hat. "I knew this hat was a good luck charm." He takes it off and gives it to Button Mash. "But now, you need this more than I do right now, so take this, and you'll have good luck too." Button humbly took the hat and placed it on his head with a smile. Well Button it seems that you've retrieved your hat, now damage received from enemies has been reduced by half, do try and keep it on your head. "Thank you Thunderbird, I can feel lady luck at my side already." He patted the colt and walked towards Golden Heart. "Good luck Button Mash and thank you,” Silver Song said, showing a grateful smile to the brown pony. He gave her a nod continued towards Golden Heart. "Are you ready to go Button?" asked Golden Heart. Button nodded in conformation. "Well, let’s be on our way then." They both leave the house and head down the road towards the produce factory with only one objective in mind, the vault. Saving game... Save Completed... "Nggh, w-what happened? ...where am I? ...Button… oh yeah now I remember. I can’t believe I got cheapshotted like that. Alright, enough foaling around, time to get up Sweetie Belle." The marshmallow filly tried to open her eyes or move any of her limbs, to no avail. "Okay, so I can’t move or open my eyes… Not a problem. I'll just do something like… FIGURE OUT WHY CANT I MOVE!?" She started to struggle, but she still didn't move. "Please tell me that I don't have Sleeping Beauty Syndrome." She just continued to lay down, huffing in irritation. "Ugghhh, that is so cliché, its like some sort of terrible teenage romance flick where everypony knows what's going to happen but wonders what's going to happen." "Lord Codex,” The purple and pink maned filly heard a mare call out. Sweetie Belle cringed at that name. "Codex? Wait… Am I with Codex? Please tell me that he didn't fillynapped me." "Yes, what is it Scarlet?” she heard Codex snap. “Can’t you see I'm busy planning a vacation with my waifu?" "Yep, he totally did,” Sweetie groaned. “When I get outta this he WILL experience the full wrath of SWEETIE BELLE!!!" She calmed down and started listening to the conversation again. "I thought you should know that my brother Black Breath was defeated,” the mare reported. "What?!" Codex whined. "Who would be dumb enough to fight him? Was it Golden Heart? He always hated him you know." "No, it wasn't him my lord. Apparently he was taken out by some cute brown earth pony." "Cute brown earth pony?" wondered Sweetie Belle. "She must be talking about MY BUTTON!" "Who brought you this info anyway?" he quizzed his lackey. "A member of my reconnaissance unit and…” The mare suddenly stopped as Sweetie Belle heard another voice whispering something inaudible. “Yes?... Oh, I see... You may go…” "What was that all about?" Wondered Sweetie Belle. "My lord, I've just received word that Golden Heart and the earth pony are heading toward the Produce Factory,” she informed. "They must be heading for the vault." Codex laughed. "Perfect! It’s a good thing I came up with a back up. If Golden Heart and that earth pony wish to reach the vault then they first have to deal with Varga, hehehehe! A little nutritious meal for his famished body, HAHAHAHA!"   "And if he survives, he will be the perfect colt, no, stallion for me, The Crimson Beauty, Scarlet! He'll show those pathetic stallions of mine what a REAL ONE should be, hahahaha!"   "I have to help Button Mash!" Sweetie Belle exclaimed to herself, listening to the maniacal laughter of her two captors. Saving game... Save Completed... > Green Garden Final Act (Patched) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now Loading… Produce Factory: Outside "Well, here we are Button," Golden Heart announced as he looked at the factory with a stern look on his face. "The Produce Factory." Button Mash looked at the factory, determined to throw a wrench in Codex's evil plans. "Are you sure that this is the place, Golden Heart? Because it looks like a greenhouse, not a factory." Golden Heart slowly turned and faced Button Mash with a blank expression. "It is a greenhouse Button, how else would Black Breath be able to grow food, that's number one, number two, I work here, so of course I know what it looks like." "Well, ask a stupid question, would you." Button muttered to himself, facehoofing at his own stupidity. "Then I suppose you know where this vault is then," he turned back to his companion. Golden Heart looked back at the factory, scratching his mane. "Uh, yeah about that. I have absolutely no idea where the vault is." "Then how do you even know that a vault exists?" Button asked, looking annoyed. "And do you even know what's in said vault?" "Something very important to Codex." He said. "Look, today a gray pegasus I've never seen before came to the factory. He said something about protecting the vault and he spoke of a chain." Button Mash looked lost in thought as Golden Heart told him what he knew. "Gray pegasus… chain? Okay, I know that chain probably goes to Codex's Castle… But that gray pegasus..." "Hmmm, what about a gray pegasus?" the tan pegasus asked, shooting a look of concern to Button Mash. "Button, are you okay? Do you know that pegasus? "Golden Heart, what did this pegasus look like?" Button shakily asked. It can’t be him! There's no way it could be him! Unless... Did Rumble receive a copy of the game too!? Golden Heart closes his eyes in thought. "Hmm, well he was about your height, and had a jet black mane. I wish I could tell you more but that's all I know." "I see…” Button trailed off, getting lost in his thoughts once more. “Thank you Golden Heart," Button dully said, his mind somewhere else. "Well, come on then, let’s go." Golden Heart silently watched Button Mash walked to the factory, his face showing he was distracted by something. He ignored this and strode on forward with determination, motivated by the knowledge that Green Village will be free and all will be well if they succeed today. But for Button Mash? His thoughts seemed to be somewhere else. ‘I'm gonna get you back for punching me in the face’ kept echoing in his head. The Produce Factory Button Mash and Golden Heart entered the factory and quickly scanned the place for any guards that might be patrolling the area. “So, Golden Heart, where do we go now?” Button asked, eyes still darting around in case anypony is wandering around. They were in a large, glossy room. As Button expected, it was surprisingly empty. There was a desk at the end of the room, where he assumed a secretary stayed. In the wall behind it, there were cheesy posters with Codex’s face on them, like one with Codex hanging from a branch, captioned ‘Just hang in there!’ Other than that, there was nothing else, save for large metal door on each side of the room. "This is the main entrance, then we have the east and west wings of the factory." Golden replied, . "From here on out, I have no idea what we do from here." "You can’t be serious,” Button rolled his eyes as he face-hoofed in exasperation. “You mean to tell me all this time, you never planned for this? And you decided to just trot in here with no clue of what we have to do?” Golden Heart just shrugged, a sheepish smile plastered to his face. "Awesome,” Button sarcastically grunted, “Anyways, let’s look around. Maybe we can find something useful.” The two ponies each went to one side and started searching top to bottom for anything that could be useful. “This… is… dumb…” the brown pony muttered to himself as he was absently staring at the walls and floor, trying to find something that might not even be there. "Hey, Button?” Button’s head perked up at the mention of his name. “I found something, I think,” Golden announced. He was behind the desk, staring downwards to the floor. As Button rushed to his side, he saw what his companion was looking at, a huge metal cellar door with three locks shutting it in place. “Where’s the best place to put a vault, eh?” Golden smirked as he knocked his hoof on the floor. Button Mash looked down at the floor. "Right under our noses. I'll admit that's pretty clever, but-" He examined at the three empty key slots. "We're still missing three keys." "Two," corrected Golden Heart. "Black Breath's key must be one of them, and the other two must be in the east and west wings of the factory.” The tan pony excitedly ran to the west side, looking through the glass door before turning back to Button. “Okay, I’ll take this side, you take the other side.” Golden Heart opened the door and stepped past it, sticking his head back in the room to address Button. “Once we find the keys, we’ll meet up back here, alright?” Before Button could object, Golden slammed the door and went on his way. “How do you even know the keys are here?” Button blurted out the question, letting it hang in the air as he stared blankly at the door Golden Heart just entered. He gave a resigned sigh, turning his head towards the other door. "Well, I'd better get started," Button said to himself as he ran into the east entrance to locate the missing key he needed to progress. "Okay, now to find that-" Button’s jaw dropped while looking at the mini-jungle that engulfed the eastern wing. There was a galore of plants and trees here, the greenery as thick as an ogre’s skin. Button already knew that he’d have a hard time travelling through this jungle. "-key. Well, Button." He sighed to himself as he traversed through the jungle. "I guess that this is one of those power through moments." "Button… Hey… Button." Button’s whole body twitched in alarm. He quickly turned his head left and right, although he saw nothing. He scratched his mane worriedly. “This humidity must be affecting me worse than I thought, I’m starting to hear voices!” "Button, don't be stupid. It’s me, Sweetie Belle." Button's ears perked up at the name of his lovely girlfriend. "Sweetie Belle! Oh man, is it good to hear your voice again!" Sweetie Belle giggled at her coltfriend’s excitement. "It’s good to hear from you too Button, but calm down for a second, I have something very important to tell you." Button Mash spotted a chest in the middle of a clearing. "Okay, tell me what?" he asked, ducking past the vines hanging above him and making his way to the chest. He smiled as he placed both hooves on the chest. “Hnng- there we go,” he grinned as he opened the chest, revealing a single golden key laying immaculately at the bottom of the chest. “Bingo,” he smiled as he bent down and grabbed the key with his mouth. "Button, have you noticed something off about this?" Sweetie asked. "Other than just finding the key that I needed, no I haven't." He replied happily. Sweetie Belle sighed at Button's obliviousness. How he could maintain A's and B's in school was beyond her. " Button, baby, did you happen to notice the amount of guards here?" "Pshhhff, What guards?" he smugly shot back. "Golden Heart and I have been here for twenty-five minutes, and we haven’t seen a single guard. And look,” Button pointed to the key still in his mouth, “I already got one of the keys! This is almost too easy!” "Exactly." Button Mash stopped dead in his tracks, eyes wide open in terror. He didn’t think this could be a trap. Could Golden Heart have come to the same conclusion? Or did he get captured, or worse? Button’s ears dropped down in grim realization. “OH CRAP!” he yelled, almost dropping the key in his mouth before quickly biting on it again. “That was close,” he muttered, placing the key under his hat instead, for safety. "Button, listen to me," Sweetie Belle sternly commanded, trying to get the brown colt’s attention. "Codex knew that you would come here, he knew that you would head towards the vault and he has a monster named Varga to protect it. I wish I could be more helpful to you but using telepathy takes up a lot of magic and this is my first time using this, so before I go, watch out for the-" "Sweetie, SWEETIE!" Button Mash desperately called out for his fillyfriend, waiting for a response. All he heard in response was silence. "Man, how could I be so STUPID!?" He  frantically main room, plowing through the vegetation in a frenzy. "Golden Heart! GOLDEN HEART, WHERE ARE YOU!?" He bursts through the door, only to find the main room empty as usual, save for the desk and the posters. “Oh horseapples,” he breathed, “OH HORSEAPPLES THIS IS NOT HAPPENING.” He was starting to really panic when a tan pony came crashing through the other door. “Button!” Golden Heart yelled with another key sticking out of his saddlebag, “What happened? Did you break a leg or something? I heard you shouting!” “GOLDENHEARTCODEXKNEWWEWERECOMINGTHAT’SWHYTHEREARENOGUARDSANDWEGOTTHEYKEYSANDVARGA-” Button was suddenly interrupted by a slap to the face, followed by intense shaking. “Calm down!” Golden said, both front hooves on Button’s shoulders, still shaking him violently. “What are you saying? "I think what he's trying to say is that you two are screwed." Button Mash and Golden Heart jump a bit, both startled, then look around the room for the source of the voice. For some reason, it took them a while to notice the dark portal appearing behind the desk. The bodiless voice boomed once more. “Fillies and gentlecolts, please put your hooves together for our esteemed guess. Introducing your main event, the all-powerful and awesome swagtacular, the super spectacular, the god-lord-king of this land, the amazing CODEX!” The unicorn king himself stepped out of the portal and onto the desk, fireworks accompanying his entrance shooting out of the portal. Codex took a pose flaunting his cape, reminding Button of a  certain ‘great and all-powerful’ unicorn he knew from Ponyville. “Prepare for your demise, fools!” the evil pony announced, turning around and showcasing his cape. “By the way, what do you think of the cape? My fashion designer told me all the great rulers had one, and that these colors look ‘divine’ on me.” With a clap of his hooves, the portal behind him disappeared. "CODEX!!!" screamed Button Mash as he charged at the dark figure standing atop the desk, only to phase through him. “Wha-” he blurted before he hit the wall behind the desk with a sickening thud. Codex simply stared at his cape. “Really? Is it that bad? Hmmm… I don’t know, I like it. Anyway, what are a bunch of no-name peasants like you doing interrupting my schemes? I don’t even know you ponies.” Button Mash could not believe his ears. Was this stallion really that dense? They had only met a few hours ago and he already forgot? "Alright then Codex, I'll tell you who I am. My name is Button Mash and I'm going to be the pony who takes you down!" He looks at Codex with intense anger in his eyes. "Remember that!" "Oh is that right?" Codex jokingly quivered in fear. "Are you feeling brave, little pony?" He bellowed an evil laugh. “Fine, come to my castle. No need to call, I love guests. You’re gonna have a great time there! We’re going to play board games, have fondue and oh, right, I’m going to kill you there.”  The dark energy surrounds the evil king. "Doesn’t that sound great? I’ll be expecting you there, Button Mash." He laughed maniacally as shadows began to creep up towards him, rising up and engulfing him completely before disappearing, taking him along with them. Button Mash stared at the spot where the evil king once stood. "Come on Golden Heart," he said with complete seriousness in his voice. "Let’s use the keys and head to the vault." "Yeah, okay,” Golden shook his head, still a bit frazzled by the up-close encounter he had with the legendary Codex. They walk to the other side of the desk, the metal door right under their hooves. “Button, give me your key,” Golden requested. Button took off his cap and grabbed the key under it with his hoof, reaching it out towards Golden. The pegasus got his key and set it in it’s proper hole. He did the same for the key he found and Black Breath’s key which were safely tucked in his saddlebag. “So, what do you think we’ll find on the other side?" the tan pony asked while placing the last key in its lock. “I heard there’s some monster named Varga hiding down there,” the brown pony shrugged, “other than that, I know just as much as you.”          The two ponies were interrupted as the ground beneath them began shaking violently. “W-w-w-what’s ha-happening?” Button stammered, barely managing to stay on his own four hooves. Suddenly, they felt themselves lowering, the floor of the main room rising higher and higher as they descended downwards. "Oh, this is an elevator!” Golden Heart said as he finally calmed down. He looked up at the roof of the greenhouse, slowly becoming farther and farther away as they keep going under. “Really now?” Button rolled his eyes. The metal platform they were on comes to a stop right in front of a huge, circular stone door. With a loud crackle and churning sounds, the stone slowly rolled to the side, revealing the entrance to a new area. Button Mash and Golden Heart exited the elevator and cautiously entered the new room. It was a very large room, almost dome-like, covered in vines and other flower-like things. There the plantlife ran wild here, even  more so than it did in the wings. There were dim torches surrounding the room, giving it an eerie glow. The two ponies nervously checked their surrounding, both getting the feeling that something was about to go horribly wrong. "Golden Heart,” Button nudged the pony next to him. "Yes?" Button Mash looked at the room, feeling quite uneasy about this whole situation.  "I have a very bad feeling about this." The large stone that blocked the door they came through suddenly rolled back into place, blocking the doorway. Vines sprouted out from the ground and ceiling, covering up the door in a layer of dense greenery, further blocking the only means of escape for the two ponies. "You don't say,” Golden Heart narrowed his eyes towards Button. All of a sudden, the ground started to tremor once more, causing the two ponies to hug each other in fear. Both had their eyes shut tight in fear, neither of them unable to tell whether the shivering came from the ground, them or their partner. “B-B-BUTTON, WH-WH-WHAAAT IS TH-THA-THAAAAT?” "I-I th-think it’s-" Before he could answer, a giant flower-like creature rose from the ground to the height of a two-storey building. It had a thick, tough looking green stem and red petals that were closed up like the petals of a rose. Button Mash and Golden Heart opened their eyes, both jaws almost hitting the floor as they watched the beast’s petals slowly open up. Under the petals, it had a mouth, which opened to reveal rows and rows of sharp teeth, circumferencing a bottomless pit of the mouth. The two ponies quickly let go of each other and slowly took a few steps back, only for the creature to lean in closer as they moved. Parasitic Plant Life-form              Varga "MOVE NOW!!!" Golden Heart screamed. Button Mash and his ally in arms Golden Heart split up as a vine shot out from Varga’s stem, shooting towards where Button and Golden were just standing a few seconds ago, ripping apart the plant life that obstructed it. Button could barely let out a sigh of relief as another vine shot out from the creature’s stem once more, and then another, and then another as Button struggled to keep up his speed, jumping over vines and ducking over others to avoid getting hit by the plant attacks. On the other side of the dome, Golden Heart was doing the same, except he let out a high pitched yelp whenever one of the vines almost hit him. "Button! Why is flower so HUGE!?” Golden Heart yelled as he barely jumped over one of the vines that shot out at a deafening speed with enough force to crush a pony’s ribs. “And how do we beat it?” Golden stumbled backwards as a vine came up in front of him. The evil plant let out a terrifying roar as green vines began to rise from the ground, trying to grab Button and Golden. The tan pegasus took to the sky, circling around the dome and skillfully evading whatever came from Varga’s stem, making his way towards Button and lifting the flightless earth pony with his forelegs, gripping the brown pony’s tail and yanking him upwards. Golden struggled to dodge vines coming from two directions, twisting and turning to evade both the vines coming out from Varga’s stem and those shooting up like spikes from the ground. “Button,” the tan pegasus huffed, “you need to think of something fast!” Golden’s eyes widened in surprise as he corkscrewed downwards, barely evading the vines that time. “I don’t know if I can keep this up any longer.” Button frantically pounded his head in thought, ignoring the nausea coming from being yanked around while being held upside down from the tail. He tried coming up with some theory, some explanation, anything to explain Varga’s massive size. Come on, come on! Think Button, think, or we'll end up like the plants in Green Village. He gasps in realization, “THAT’S IT! THAT’S HOW-” Button was cut short as he felt himself falling down, looking up to see a green tendril pierce the area between him and his pegasus friend, almost grazing his tail. Golden quickly darted down and grabbed Button’s tail again, this time with his mouth. “You were saying?” Golden Heart struggled to ask with Button’s tail in his mouth.         “I think what Varga’s doing is siphoning the energy from the plants around Green Village. That’s why he’s so big!” Button explained, yelping again as Golden violently swerved to dodge another vine.         “So when we defeat this thing, the crops will flourish again,” Golden inferred, eyes brightening. “And Green Village will be saved!” "Well, it’s just a theory," Button Mash sheepishly reminded him. One of the parasite’s arms shot up from the ground, wrapping itself around Button’s foreleg, yanking him violently out of Golden’s grip. Button could do nothing as the the tendril flung him towards the wall with a brutal thud, landing Button right next to one of the torches. Button groaned on the ground, still dazed by the impact. He can faintly make out the figure of a pegasus dodging vine after vine, his vision still very hazy. The only thing he could see clearly is the torch hanging directly above him. Wait. The torch gave him an idea. He quickly got up, when he saw Golden still zipping up and down trying to avoid vine after vine. “Golden Heart! I need you to distract Varga!” He rolled his eyes at Button Mash while dodging more vines. "I think I'm already doing that!" he said as-a-matter-of-factly.                   "Good, keep it up!" Button quickly grabbed a torch from the wall. He ran towards Varga, zig-zagging left and right as tendrils tried to smash him, missing only by inches every time. “Hey ugly!” he called the beast. Varga turned at the mention of his name, menacingly growling at the young colt with the burning stick in his mouth. “Want a nice little snack?” Button teased, turning around and shaking his flank tauntingly at the beast. Varga roared in response. Now’s my chance, Button thought, so he threw the torch into the roaring beast’s mouth.         The mutant flower gobbled up the torch whole, recoiling in pain. Its vines became slower and more sluggish as time went by, making it easier for the two heroes to evade his attacks. “I think it worked,” cheered Golden as he watched the giant flower sway back and forth with smoke coming out of his mouth. Suddenly, all of Varga burst into flames with it writhing in pain and screeching in agony. "Thank you Pokémon,” Button Mash smugly grinned as he watched the giant plant burn. An exhausted Golden Heart landed next to him with a confused expression. "What's a Pokémon?" he asked. Button Mash just smiled and shook his head. "Nevermind, it’s nothing." The two watched the defeated monster with smiles on their faces, both sweating and tired from the battle. “We really should get back,” Button huffed, “I could use a nice rest.” “You said it,” Golden agreed. "Oh, I do hope Golden Heart and Button Mash are alright,” Silver Song sighed as she watched Dazzler and Thunderbird fool around. She was worried about the two stallions who left over an hour ago. Her thoughts were occupied by ‘what ifs’ and such, the worst case scenarios coming to mind. No, she told herself as she unconciously slammed a hoof to the table. They’ll be alright. They have to be. "Mama?” The sound of Misty’s voice made Silver jump in her seat. “Sorry, Misty,” the dark blue unicorn gave a soft smile, “I was thinking about something.” Misty just looked at her as if she was puzzled. “Okaay…. anyway, what’s this?” Silver Song squinted to what her daughter was pointing at, not seeing anything. But then she saw it. A small beam of light penetrating their dusty window. “Could it be?” she wondered to herself as she stood up and walked outside, like she was in a trance. Misty, Dazzler, and Thunderbird stuck their head out the doorway, curiously observing their ‘mama’. “Mama, what’re you doing-” Thunderbird was cut short as all the three young ponies’ eyes widen in shock at what Silver Song was looking at. The dark gray layer covering the sky was fading away to reveal a brilliant blue under it with a bright yellow orb shining brightly.  Silver Song’s eyes were getting teary as she witnessed the transformation over the whole village as more and more ponies came out and saw what was happening. “They did it,” she almost laughed because she was so happy, “they really did it.” "Lord Codex, Varga has fallen, and the first chain has been broken." Codex stoped admiring himself in the mirror. "Really? Aww man, bummer. Anyway, Scarlet, what do you think of my new cape?" He wrapped it around himself. "I thought it would clash with my gray coat, but I like the cape, capes are cool." Scarlet facehoofed at her lord’s stupidity. "Really, Lord Codex? Varga's dead and your main concern is ‘does my cape clash with my coat?’ What about that earth pony?" The Evil King turned around back to his mirror. "I seem to recall that you wanted a piece of Button Mash next." "Oh yesss I do," shuddered Scarlet, biting her lip. "I can’t wait to meet him in person." Her horn lights up with red magic. "Oh the things I'm going do to him, I hope he likes it… rough." She laughed and disappears from her master in a flash of crimson. "Okay, she needs help," said Codex as he continued to admire himself in the mirror. "Lots of help." "Golden Heart, Silver Song thank you for everything." Golden Heart and Silver Song look at each other then back at Button Mash. "Button, we should be the ones thanking you,” replied Silver Song. "Yeah, none of this would be possible without you Button, but are you sure you have to go?” added Golden Heart. “You could stay with us. Help us rebuild. Heck, I’m sure the village would gladly let their savior stay here.” Button Mash slowly nodded his head. “Yeah, still have to find Sweetie Belle and punch Codex's face in. Thanks for the offer but-" The brown colt paused, “Actually, Golden, do you mind if I ask you a favor?” "Yeah, sure. Anything, Button Mash," he smiled as he put a hoof on Button’s shoulder. "I need a lift to the next island." Golden Heart nodded dutifully at Button Mash's request. "Consider it done." "WAIT!!!" Misty, Thunderbird, and Dazzler ran out of the house and tackled Button Mash in a group hug. "Button, Mama said we can grow food again thanks to you," Misty said. "And that bright yellow thing in the sky is so warm and bright," added Thunderbird. "Big Bro called it a sun or something." "Thank you for helping our town Button," finished Dazzler. Button Mash smiled at the three foals. "No problem. Just don’t give Silver and Golden a hard time." He broke the hug and walked over to Golden Heart. "Are you ready to go Button?" Button Mash nodded his head. "Alright, let’s go then.” “So, uh, how do we do this?” Golden sheepishly smiled, “Well, I guess you… uhh… get on my back.” Button uncomfortably nodded and climbed on Golden’s back. “Doesn’t this feel a bit… uhh… weird?” Golden shrugged. “I don’t know. It’s only weird if we make it weird… Do you think it’s weird?” “No, do you?” “No, I guess.” “Huh. Okay then.” Now Loading...Blue Beach "Alright this is good enough, Golden Heart." After Golden Heart landed on a sandy beach, Button Mash hopped off his back and looks around. "Thanks for the lift," he waved as Golden Heart took off back in the air. "No problem Button Mash, and again thank you so much." He flew away back to Green Garden. The earth pony smiled and lookd at the ocean. "You did a good thing Button Mash," He said to himself, reflecting on all he had done the past day. "Excuse me, Button Mash?" He turned around to the sound of the voice. "Yes?" Before he could even react our young hero was hit with a very powerful magical spell right in the face. Before he passed out he could have sworn he heard somepony say. "Now you're ALL MINE BUTTON MASH! HAHAHAHA!" Saving... Save Completed... > Blue Beach (Patched) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now Loading... "Button...Wake up." "Hnnng... just five more minutes..." he groaned. The mare sighed, “Button Mash if you do not wake this instant, no video games for two weeks!” Eight-year-old Button Mash bolted awake from his peaceful slumber. “I’M UP, I’M UP!” he grumbled. “Ugh, what day is it?” Button rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and stretched his stiff, tired limbs. “Why’d you wake me up so early?” "It’s Monday, in other words the first day of school," Milano informed him as she walks towards the door. "So come on, get out of bed and come downstairs." She turned and looked at her son with a warm smile. "I made pancakes." Button Mash gasped in excitement and hopped off the bed, careful not to run into the stack of unopened boxes. "Huh, probably should hook up my game systems when I return home." He looked around his new room with a smile, a nice medium size room that was just for him. No longer would he have to share a room with his older brother, a much needed improvement from their apartment in Baltimare. "Okay, Button, a new town means new adventures." He put on his lucky propeller hat before he headed downstairs where his pancakes were waiting to be devoured. "Hey mom, where's dad?" he wondered while stuffing his face with pancakes. "Oh, he's meeting with Mayor Mare about some building ideas he had for the town." She gave her son a lunchbox. "Now run along or you'll be late for school." "Okay!" he replied, swallowing his pancakes with a glass of orange juice in one gobble. He grabbed his lunchbox as he rushed outside, "Bye mom!” he yelled as he ran past his mother who was unpacking pictures in their living room. "Bye sweetie, and have a wonderful day." It was a nice day in the town of Ponyville as Princess Celestia's sun shined brightly in the sky. The inhabitants of the small town were going about their daily lives without a care in the world. "Man, it sure is nice here," Button thought while looking around the town. "I wonder if the ponies at my new school are nice too?" he wondered to himself as he sees a schoolhouse coming into view. "That must be it!" He rushed towards the building, eager to begin his new life in Ponyville when- *WHAM* -he collided with another classmate. "Oh man, I'm so sorry!" Button Mash quickly apologized as he helped his fellow classmate up. "I wasn't watching where I going and- and-" He started to tearing up, curling his lip in panic. "Ugh, it’s okay, really,” the pale-blue pegasus replied as he got up, shaking the dust off his coat. He took one good look at Button and noticed the water in his eyes. “There's no need to cry, honest!" he said as he put a comforting hoof on Button’s shoulder, trying to calm him down. "My name’s Rumble, what's yours?" "M-my na-names Button Mash," the brown colt sniffled. "I just moved here from Baltimare." Rumble pats Button on the back. "See? It’s all good Button. I just moved here from Cloudsdale." His face lit up with in idea. "Hey Button since you moved here and I moved here..." he shuffled his hoof on the ground timidly. "D-do you want to be friends?" Button Mash quickly grabbed Rumble and gave him a hug. "Yeah, let’s be friends," he answered, almost crushing Rumble’s ribs. Rumble freed himself from Button Mash's bear hug and simply held his hoof out. "Okay, then lets make it official," he gasped breathlessly, still smiling. Button Mash looked at his hoof then back to Rumble. "Yeah, let’s." They brohoofed in acceptance of their new found friendship, Button Mash smiled at his new pegasus friend. "We'll be friends forever Rumble. I just know it!”            "Ugh, my head," Button Mash groggily sat up, rubbing his aching head. "I feel like a got hit with a cart made of carts." He crawled out of the mattress he was on, his head still throbbing. “Where am I?” he wondered as he looked around his room. It was a bare stone room, as small as Silver Song’s hut, but more spacious since it was empty. All Button saw was a fancy silk bed, a wooden door and a window. “I bet I could get an idea by seeing the outside,” Button said, walking up to the window. He opened it and stuck his head out, seeing the ocean in the horizon and a sandy beach closeby. “Oh yeah,” Button remembered, “I asked Golden Heart to drop me off at the beach. Still doesn’t explain how I got here, though.” He sighed and looked around. The only other object of interest was the door. “There’s no use standing around here.” The colt made his way to the door and put his hoof on the doorknob. “Please don’t be a trap…” Button silently prayed before opening the door. To his surprise, the door only led to a hallway. The hero of Green Village stuck his head out of the doorway, looking left and right only to find that there were no guards at all. “Huh, that’s weird,” Button muttered to himself as he walked out of the room. The stone hallway was empty, save for the grand door that lay at the end. “I have a really bad feeling about this.” Button walked to the end of the hallway and went past the other door, bringing him to some sort of chamber. The chamber was luxuriously decorated, in contrast to what Button had gotten accustomed to seeing dull, barely decorated rooms. Lined up on each wall, black suits of armor were stationed on guard, standing at attention with a spear by their side. Normally, Button would have been afraid but upon closer inspection, he noticed they were empty; merely decorative. The banners of Codex hung in the interval between each suit of armor with a window both left and right of the banners. Going down the middle of the room, a red, velvety carpet with ornately decorated gold trimming ran across to the other side of the room, ending at a fancy-looking throne with unicorn sitting- wait, what? Button stared at the brown mare elegantly seated on the throne, her long crimson mane flowing down her body and her scarlet eyes looking at him rather eagerly. “Greetings, Button Mash!” the mare smirked, “I’ve been waiting for you.” Button quickly turned around, making a break for the door. The unicorn smiled smugly as her horn lit up with red energy. Suddenly the door Button came in from was engulfed with a red aura then shut tight. “You’re so cruel, Button Mash!” the mare shrieked with mock hurt “I go through all this trouble to find you and get you a nice bed after you passed out, and you try to leave me?” she covered her eyes with her hooves likes she was about to cry. Suddenly her face snapped into complete seriousness and she rose from her seat to approach Button Mash. The brown pony tried to back away but the unicorn came closer and closer until they were snout to snout and Button’s back was to the wall. “But then again, I should’ve expected that from you.” She leaned in close for a whisper, “after all, you did beat my baby brother.”  Button defensively darted to the side, finding refuge at the corner of the room. “Beat your brother? Who are you?” Button growled, getting ready to pounce at a moment’s notice. "My name is Scarlet, The Crimson Beauty,” she dramatically introduced herself. “My brother and I are the loyal enforcers of the High and Mighty King Codex! I believe you’ve met my brother, Black Breath?” Scarlet asked, walking back to her throne. She took a seat and reached out a hoof of invitation, pointing Button Mash towards an empty spot in the throne that seemed uncomfortably close to her. "I'd prefer to stand thank you," the earth pony shook his head, still eyeing the mare with caution. Scarlet giggled at Button Mash's defiance. "Suit yourself, but as soon as I finish my story, you'll be in my hooves." Button Mash glared at the crimson unicorn uneasily. There was something about her that made Button Mash uncomfortable, very uncomfortable indeed.   "You're a funny one, aren't you? Looking at me like that. Very well then. I bet you heard that Lord Codex was an evil tyrant didn't you?" "I've seen and heard the stories,” he dully replied. Scarlet rolled her eyes. "Don't believe what those fools at Green Village told you, they wouldn't have had to suffered if they just accepted that." "But he was letting Black Breath starve ponies," Button shot back as he slammed his hoof on the ground. "If Codex wasn't an evil tyrant then why would he let him do that!?" "Its true that my brother’s methods was a little… harsh," she agreed as she stood up and walked towards one of the windows close to the throne. "But I, on the other hoof, do not use such tactics so my subjects are very happy with their lives.” She motioned for Button to be by her side so he joined her and looked out the window. He saw many happy ponies walking around a nice successful looking village. He could see ponies with carts filled to the brim with goods selling wares at a market place. He caught a couple laughing as they bought carrots from a merchant. There were even some foals running around, playing in the town square. "See, look there, Button Mash. Look how happy they are.” She looked at Button Mash who was still looking out the window. "It’s true that I do serve Lord Codex, but even he can’t be everywhere at once, which is why my brother and I became his loyal enforcers when he took over." Scarlet gently turned Button’s face towards her with her hoof. "Button Mash." She said with a soft and gentle voice. "Become my king and rule with me." > Blue Beach Act 2 (Patched) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I'm sorry but… what did you just say?” Button splurted out in disbelief while cleaning his ears with his hooves. “Because I thought you just asked me to be your king.” "I did ask you to be my king," she replied, giggling as if he asked a silly question. "I want you to see that Lord Codex is not such a evil pony like you say he is,” she sweetly told him, coming up to him and stroking his mane. Button Mash looked at Scarlet with utter confusion. "Why me?" This wasn't what he needed right now. What he needed was to get his fillyfriend and leave this crazy world. He didn’t need another issue like this, since he had the exact same problem with Dinky back home and that alone is a hoofful. And Dinky wasn’t an assertive, powerful unicorn mare working for an evil king. "Well to put it bluntly," Scarlet gave Button Mash a lustful look, "I likes ya and I wants ya and you can come with me willingly or do I have to work for it?" She tried to pull Button’s lips to hers, but the colt just shoved her away. Button Mash defensively leapt away and took a battle stance. "Ohhohoh, so you want to do this the hard way is that it?" Her horn started to glow red. "That's fine, I don't mind a little roughhousing," she bit her lip which was forming into a devious smile. Button Mash felt himself rise from the ground as he was enveloped in the embrace of crimson magical aura.          "C-CRAP!" he panicked, shaking his legs frantically. It was futile, however. Button was as helpless as a fish out of water. Next thing Button knew, he was flung from wall to wall with brutal force. "Hahaha, come on, Button Mash," Scarlet mocked, "I thought you was gonna make me work for it." She continued to throw the poor earth pony around like a ragdoll. "Should have taken the easy way and just became my king.” Scarlet released her hold on Button Mash and he falls on the ground with a thud. "Oh, I love it when stallions fall before me,” she licked her lips. Button slowly rose on his hooves. "Ugh, Is- is that all you got?" he heaved as he struggled to get up. "Oh, a tough one aren't you?" She once again magically gripped the weakened Button and held him in the air as her horn began glowing more and more red with power. "Get ready Button, cause I'm about to let it all out!" Scarlet fired a powerful beam of magic at Button Mash. "AHHHHHHHHHHH!" He screamed as he went flying into a wall, his impact causing cracks to the wall, and he plopped onto the ground.. "How’s- How’s that!" Scarlet huffed as she sat on her rump, breathing hard. "Huff, huff, I may not be as powerful as Lord Codex, huff, huff, huff, but I still know how to, huff, huff, show some ponies a good time." She wiped some sweat from her forehead, sighing with exhaustion. "Man, that took a lot outta me." She looked at Button Mash who was still laying on the ground.  "Hmm, for your performance Button, I'll give you... sixty-nine points,” she giggled. "Well I'd report back to Lord Codex and tell him that Button Mash-" Scarlet’s jaw dropped when she saw the lifeless figure on the floor stir. “Ugh…” the brown pony sat up from the floor, swaying left and right in an attempt to get up. The mare watched breathlessly as the brown colt managed to pull himself up on all fours. She struggled to move her legs and do something, anything, but she was too drained from her last attack to offer any resistance. The only thing she could do is watch in horror and anticipation as Button Mash groggily stumbled towards her. "But how?!" she muttered in shock. "That was my strongest attack!" She watched Button Mash slowly inch his way towards her, his eyes glaring at daggers at her as he continued to stumble. For the first time in a very long time, Scarlet, The Crimson Beauty was afraid, but what could she do? She was powerless and her foe was already standing above her, angrily gazing at her.         She shut her eyes tight as she waited for the inevitable final strike. “Go ahead, finish me,” she tried to hide the shakiness in her voice, determined to go down swinging instead of begging for her life. She braced herself for the end, but it never came. She slowly let one eye open to look upon the swaying figure of her attacker, looking like he could barely stand. Suddenly, Button fell forward, his head hitting Scarlet’s and knocking the both to the floor. She waited a few seconds but the colt didn’t stir. She finally freed one hoof from under his body and nudged his head, only for it to lazily droop back into place, showing that he was really out cold. The unicorn let out a small laugh of relief. “For a second there, I thought you had me,” she chuckled uncomfortably. She took a few deep breaths to calm her nerves. “You really scared me, you know,” she said to herself, staring up into the ceiling. Saving... Save Completed...  "Come on Button, let’s go to Sugar Cube Corner and get some milkshakes," Sweetie Belle came closer to Button and snuggled up to his side while walking. "Just don't do any milkshakes races in a pitiful attempt to impress me." Button Mash chuckles in shame at the memory, looking slightly away to hide the tint showing in his cheeks. "You're never gonna let me live that down are you?"   "Nope, but that's why I like you Button," she gave a cute smile to her coltfriend, who blushed even more. "You're unique and not afraid to be yourself, no matter how dorky you may be." They will take her away, Button Mash! "Thanks Sweetie,” he smiled. "I really glad to have met you." They will make her fall out of love with you! They will make her HATE YOU! Button Mash and Sweetie Belle reached the colorful pastry-like building. The colt found a grin on his face as he recalled the countless dates he had at the Sugarcube Corner with Sweetie. He quickly dashed past the filly and opened the door, playfully bowing as he let the unicorn go first. “My my, aren’t we the gentlecolt?” the marshmallow filly curtsied as she smirked at the brown earth pony before entering the shop. They can corrupt anypony Button Mash! Your family, your friends, even you. Button followed Sweetie Belle from behind, chuckling. "That's something I expected your sister to say." And you won’t even know it! The couple found a nice, comfy table for two by the window and sat down. Button pulled out Sweetie Belle’s seat for her. She blushed a bit as she took her seat, then the colt took the seat right across her and raised a hoof in the air. “Two milkshakes please! One chocolate and one vanilla.” And they are coming... They WILL come for you Button Mash! A pink, bouncy-haired mare hopped out above the counter, slid under a few tables and popped up right in front of the couple’s table. “Okie-dokie-lokie!” Pinkie Pie saluted while smiling, “Two brain freezers coming up!” She simply sunk downwards out of their view and the next second, Button Mash sees her behind the counter again, but he shrugged it off as the usual Pinkie stuff. And remake your ENTIRE WORLD as they see fit! Two glasses come flying through the air, the chocolate shake landing perfectly in front of the colt and the vanilla sticking a perfect landing in front of the filly. Button was about to drink his when his nose suddenly filled with the smell of cotton candy. “There you go!” Pinkie announced as she jumped out from under their table and beside Button, almost making him shriek like a filly. The couple laughed at Pinkie’s antics as she hopped away jollily. But do not fear Button Mash! When the time comes we shall lend you our power! The couple enjoyed their frosty treat when the door opened and a gray pegasus with a jet black mane enters the building with a silver mane earth pony with glasses following close behind. You must defeat their chosen one Button Mash! It is the only way! "So how did your brother do on his exams Rumble?" the gray filly wondered. "I know he's been studying very hard."   Rumble smirked proudly at the earth pony. "He passed it no problem,” he boasted. "Got an A+ and everything, my big brother is the best! He's my hero!" He and Silver Spoon took a seat at a table near the other couple. "I even got some inspiration last night and wrote some new poems!" "Well I would certainly love to hear them," Silver Spoon dreamily replied. "I have some new ones too, if you'd like to hear them." Rumble wrapped a hoof around Silver Spoon and pulled her close. "Silver, I love to hear your poems. In fact, I think they're better than mine." "Rumble, you know that the best poems come from." She patted his chest where his heart is. "Right here, as long as you write what's in your heart, then you'll always write good poetry." Rumble kissed Silver Spoon which she returns. "It’s a good thing that Diamond Tiara isn't here," he chuckled. "Otherwise she'd tell us to get a room." Silver Spoon leaned closer to Rumble, laughing with him. Rumble looked around the room laughing, and immediately stopped. "Rumble? Rumble what's wrong?” Silver worriedly nudged her coltfriend, who was unresponsive. She followed the direction of his angry gaze and found a brown colt at the other end who’s milkshake was shaking with fury, threatening to shatter. Beside him, a marshmallow filly shared the same nervous expression she had. She and Sweetie Belle weren’t the best of friends, or barely friends for that matter, but both understood that when it comes to their coltfriends, it was up to them to prevent anything. She saw the unicorn try to talk to the growling Button who didn’t falter in his hateful stare. Sweetie bit her lip and shot Silver Spoon a pleading look. "Come on Rumble, let’s go,” Silver Spoon quickly said as she stood up. “Why don’t you read me some of your poems over at the park?” she invited him as she tried to pull him away from the shop. The pegasus reluctantly stood up and let his fillyfriend lead him away, never breaking eye contact with his ex-bestfriend. Sweetie gave a thankful nod to Silver as she closed the door behind her when the couple left. Sweetie Belle looked at Button, who was shaking with fury so badly that chocolate milkshake was spilling all over their table. “Button?” she nervously called him, “are you alright?” Button Mash only responded by growling and crushing his milkshake glass in his hoof. Despair. Apocalyptic. Rage. Kill. Feelings. Overwhelming. Revive. Control. Evil. When they come for you Button Mash. They WILL CHANGE YOUR WORLD!!!  Saving... Save Completed… Button Mash gasped as he awoke with a start, covered in sweat. He laid back down on the soft, silk, queen-size bed, still panting. He wiped some sweat from his forehead, getting lost in his thoughts. Another dream on how much he despised Rumble? He looked around. In contrast to what he usually woke up in, this time he woke in a nicely decorated room that wouldn’t be out of place in the Canterlot Palace. Beside his bed, there was a bedside table with a concealed envelope closed with a wax seal and his proppeler hat. The walls were peppered with ornaments and paintings and there was a large mirror at the corner of the room, next to the door. Not like I have time to admire myself right now, the brown pony reflected. He stood up from the bed and grabbed the envelope. He sat on the bed as he opened the envelope and read the letter within.  Dear Button Mash, I hope you slept well sleepyhead, but now it’s time to end this. If you wish to challenge me again then meet me in the basement, but keep in mind, Button Mash, that if you enter the basement only one of us will leave alive. If you truly love that white unicorn filly then I will expect you to make haste to the basement. I can hardly wait to meet you there.  There was some red lipstick in the form of a kiss mark on it. The Crimson Beauty… Scarlet Button Mash placed his hat on his head and made for the door, mind clear save for one objective, defeat Scarlet.  "Lord Codex!" An earth pony dressed in black metal from head to hooves marched through Codex’s throne room, bowing in front of the dark lord unicorn. “A message has arrived from Lady Scarlet,” he took out an envelope from his armor and presented it to his lord. Codex quickly put on his cape. "Ah, I'll take that." His horn glowed blue and the letter flew towards him. "You may go.” The guard respectfully nodded and turned to exit, but stopped when Codex called him again. “But wait.” The earth pony tilted his head to the side to see the unicorn. “What do you think of my cape?” Codex turned around to showcase his cape, then opened it in a very dramatic manner. "It looks nice my lord,” the guard nonchalantly complimented. Codex rose an eyebrow in cynicism. "Really?" "Really." Codex just shrugged. "Eh, good enough for me. You may go." "Yes my lord,” he answered, bowing his head slightly before resuming his way to the exit. "Alright, now let’s see what Scarlet brought me." He opened the envelope in read the letter. "Dear Lord Codex, blah blah blah Button Mash stronger than he looks blah blah blah could not sway him over to our side yakkity smackity he may beat me so be prepared." Codex crumpled the paper and tossed it over his shoulder carelessly. "Unbelievable, usually stallions fall for Scarlet the instant they see her, so either he's not distracted by the sexy or he's a fan of the man." He sat on the throne and put a hoof to his chin “I wonder if my new pegasus recruit would want a shot at this Button Mash. I guess I should ask him." “So, this is it, huh?” Button Mash said to himself as he reached the bottom of the steps. He walked into a large, dark room with a chandelier hanging from above, providing dim lighting for Button to see through. He could barely make out the dark walls and the chains and shackles on the walls and on the ground. He walked into the middle of the room, right under the chandelier and looked around. "So you've arrived? Good. I knew you would show up Button Mash." He turned in circles, looking for the sound of the voice. "Alright Scarlet!" he yelled into the darkness. "Show yourself!" A crimson maned unicorn appeared before him. "Don't worry Button, I'm here." Her horn lit up the entire room in an ominous red light. "This is it Button Mash, your last chance to join us." Button Mash only shook his head. "We both know I'm not doing that." "Very well then, Button.” Energy started swelling around the unicorn’s horn, brightening the red shine. "You leave me with no choice!" Lava started to pour out from the walls, cutting off the escape of Button and closing in the two ponies. The duelists started to circle around each other, probing for the right time to strike. Button had a growled plastered on his face while Scarlet simply had a smug smirk on. “This world’s chain is connected to me, much like Green Island’s chain was connected to Varga,” she explained. “You know what you have to do if you want to proceed. The Crimson Beauty         Scarlet "How do I beat her?" Button wondered as they continued to circle around each other. “Last time, she wiped the floor with me.” He was sweating profusely, not just because of the lava’s heat, but also because he was nervous. "Button... Button, can you hear me?" Button Mash’s eyes darted left and right, around the room. "Sweetie?” The unicorn in front of him smiled a bit, “Oh, I’m flattered you see me that way now, but you had your chance buster, and you blew it!” The colt rolled his eyes when the voice came back. “Yes, Button, it’s me! I finally got enough magic to talk to you again.”         “Hey, that’s great!” the brown colt’s smile quickly faded away as Scarlet red bolts of energy towards him. He ducked under one shot and jumped backwards as another one blew up the ground in front of him, almost pushing him to the lava. “But, uh, can it wait? I’m a bit busy with something now,” Button huffed. "Oh, with what?" Button Mash could almost hear Sweetie Belle pouting from the other end. “Fighting Scarlet,” the earth pony informed her as he ran around the arena, ducking and jumping over bolts of energy. One of the shots got lucky and egged him right at the side. “Agh! Very, very powerful unicorn she is,” he huffed to his fillyfriend. "Oh! I know what to do!" she excitedly exclaimed. "Look, us unicorns are very powerful with our ability to control magic." Button thrashed around in the air as Scarlet lifted him up with her magic, only to unceremoniously slam him back down. “You don’t say,” Button Mash grunted, “that’s very encouraging. "But,” Sweetie continued, “our bodies aren’t as strong. All you have to do is land one good hit and we’re out. We’re like glass cannons, so the more aggressive you are, the better.” "Got it!" Button said as he rose to his hooves. "Good, I'll leave you to it then. Good luck!" Sweetie Belle once again went silent. Button Mash took a deep breath. "Alright, here we go." He rushed Scarlet with some impressive speed. "My father always told to never hit a mare." He tried to kick Scarlet but she quickly moved out of the way and dashed behind the colt. "But, if I'm going to rescue Sweetie Belle." She fired a beam of magic at the distraced earth pony, but Button manages to roll out of the way, right beside the unicorn. "Then I have to beat you!" He landed a stron right hoof on the side of Scarlet's face, causing her to stagger to the side from Button Mash's attack. "No matter who you are!" The crimson beauty laughed at Button Mash's very corny speech. "You truly are a dork, you know?" She charged herself as her horn flared up with a familiar strong glow. “But I have to win too,” she leaned her head back. "For I can NOT LOSE TO YOU!!!" She fired her attack, letting lose a bright red beam of power. "This move again?" Button Mash charged straight towards the beam, closing his eyes but not even losing speed. “This time, I’m ready for it,” Button smirked as he braced himself for the coming impact. "Im-impossible," She whispered as watched the Button charge through her attack. "You shouldn't be able to do that!" Her beam dissipated with Button still charging at her. "I guess this is it then, huh?" Button lariated her into the lava. “It’s funny, isn’t it?” she thought as time seemed to slow then while she was in the air. “I’m not even scared this time,” she closed her eyes and smiled one last time. Button Mash barely had time to celebrate his victory or think about what exactly he had just done as the room began to tremor. Button almost fell into the lava but he quickly regained his footing, teetering dangerously at the edge. “Not good,” he worriedly muttered to himself. He looked at the stairway, but the lava pit was still blocking the way. “How am I going to get out now?” Another tremor violently shook the area, causing the chandelier to fall down. Button covered his face from the flying shards of glass. “That was close,” he muttered before he looked up and saw that there was a blue beam of light shining from the hole where the chandelier previously was. “Well, there’s no harm in trying,” the colt reasoned as he stepped into the beam. “Wooooah!” Next thing Button knew, he was flying in the air and out of the world. "Lord Codex, Lady Scarlet has fallen and the second chain has been broken.” The evil king gave a shocked scowl to his messenger. "Really?! Wow, I didn't think he had it in him." He got up from his throne and looked out a window. "Button Mash is proving to be quite an annoyance by taking out two of my conquer chains." "But my lord, what about the last two?" "Don't worry about that." Codex and his messenger looked at the doorway, surprised by the intrusion of a certain gray pegasus. "I've been waiting a long time for this!" he had a devious smile. “Button Mash will not get past me!" He disappears from their sight as quickly as he appeared. Codex then saw him flying away from the window. "Well, I guess that answers your question,” he absentmindedly told his messenger as he grinned, watching the pegasus fly further and further away. Saving... Save Completed... > Sky High Ruins (Patched) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now Loading… Sky High Ruins “Alright, Button Mash,” the earth pony muttered to himself as he ascended higher and higher, floating upwards in the blue beam he stepped in moments ago, “let’s see where we go this time.” Above him, he could see the beam lead to a dense cloud layer and he couldn’t see anything beyond that. “Of course, that’d be too easy,” Button grumbled to himself. He crashed through the white layer only to stop moving upwards. Instead, he found himself standing on the clouds. He panicked for a while before he realized he wasn’t on a literal cloud, it was just a white platform. Probably magical, Button inferred, else how could he have passed through on his way up and how could it remain suspended? The brown earth colt wandered towards the edge of the white and looked down. “Woooooah,” Button nervously gulped. “I’m really high up.” The thought of splatting to the ground like an egg terrified the earth pony at this point, but the view was impressive, he had to admit. “Hey, is that Green Village over there?” he wondered as he leaned a bit more forward. “ROAAAR!!!”         The colt quickly scrambled backwards as a mass of red scales zoomed past him causing a backlash that almost blew his hat off. “WOAH!” he shrieked as the creature let out a deafening roar when it flew past. “Is- is that a dragon?” Button’s jaw dropped in disbelief. Every flap of its wings were the angry booms of thunder and every roar was an earthshaking warning to those who dare cross it. If Codex sent that, Button reflected as he watched the dragon fly further and further away, he must be getting desperate. Meanwhile... "You released Baelfel, my lord?” the messenger tried to maintain the calm facade while inside he was screaming, doubting his superior’s mental stability. “With all due respect, I believe that that was a very, VERY bad idea.” Codex chuckled playfully at his messenger, “Oh, come on. You know that Baefel isn’t a problem for me, the Almighty, Super-Spectacular, Mighty Powerful LORD CODEX!” The unicorn stood from his throne and put two hooves in the air with a huge grin.   "Right, my lord,” the messenger rolled his eyes, clearly unimpressed.         Codex payed him no heed, stepping forward as if addressing a larger crowd. “But for Button Mash, he shall soon feel my fiery wrath! He will learn the price of angering the all-powerful dark lord Codex through the fire! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!” The messenger merely stared at him for a few seconds in judgemental silence. “OKAY, SO I’M DESPERATE!” the unicorn put his hooves over his eyes, “... was it really that obvious?” The messenger only nodded, “Quite so sir. Quite so.” Now back to our hero... Button Mash wouldn’t look down. He refused to look down. All he did was stare ahead into the white expanse. His eyes were nulled by the lack of objects to focus on, save for the occasional cloud that was moving ever so slightly overhead. “If Codex doesn’t get me, I’ll die of boredom up here,” Button groaned. As he went further and further, the earth pony could make out dark spires rising from the foggy distance. Dark magic filled the area, Button knew. He wasn’t a unicorn or anything, just a regular earth pony, but the power emanating from the castle was undeniable. The air was heavy and cold, sending chills up the pony’s spine. Button got more and more nervous as he approached the structure, the true weight and size of the imposing keep finally crashing down on him. Despair, hopeless and fear began to creep up on Button. But one thought kept him going. One face. A smiling filly, marshmallow white with a mane split between pink and purple, calling out to him. “Button, Button,” she beckoned, staring into his soul with her perfect emerald eyes. I’m coming, Sweetie Belle. "BUTTON MASH!" Button Mash quickly snapped back at attention, looking around for the source of the voice. He saw a gray blur shifting from cloud to cloud. “Who’s there!?” he shouted, getting ready for a fight. A tiny shift in the wind caused the colt to jump a bit and turn around, eliciting a maniacal laughter from his unknown assailant. “Come out and face me like a stallion!” Button cried angrily. “As you wish.” A gray pegasus swooped down from the cloud cover, majestically landing right in front the brown pony. “Here I am,” the pegasus scowled.         The earth pony examined his adversary. Gray coat and jet black mane, just as Golden Heart said. But the manestyle is all wrong, and his eyes aren’t purple, they’re magenta, Button observed. He didn’t know whether to be relieved or worried by this, but he knew that either way, this guy was going to put up a fight. “Who are you?” Button calmly demanded. "My name is Quicksilver," he replied. "New recruit for The Great Lord Codex's Empire." He paced around Button Mash like a shark stalking its prey. "You've been causing The Great King a lot of trouble. haven't you? From Black Breath to Varga, and now Lady Scarlet. You’ve done a lot of damage for a nopony, and Lord Codex has given me the privilege of defeating you and proving my worth to his greatship!” "Are you finished?" an annoyed Button asked cynically with one eyebrow raised. "Cause if you’re done flapping your mouth, get out of my way!" Quicksilver's eye started to twitch as his face turned to a crimson hue of anger. “You… YOU INSOLENT FOOL!” he cried as his wings spread full span. “I was going to give you one final chance to atone for your sins but now…” The gray pony’s eyes narrowed towards the colt, “NOW YOU SHALL PAY, AND YOU WILL FEEL THE FULL WRATH OF THE GREAT AND MIGHTY CODEX!” The White Knight     Quicksilver Quicksilver flies towards Button Mash with deafening speed, determined to stop this brown subversive from his relentless crusade against his master, Codex. The colt simply sidestepped, narrowly avoiding impact with the pegasus with a straight face. “Wha-” the pegasus’ mouth was open in shock, only for him to shake it off and dart towards Button again and again, missing his mark every time as the colt practically danced around him. "Ugh, I don't have time for this Quicksilver,” Button groaned as he ducked and dodged the gray blur charging towards him, but the pegasus did not stop his relentless onslaught. "If you wish to defeat Lord Codex then you will make time, for you shall not pass unless you defeat me!" Quicksilver charged towards Button for another round of quick attacks. "I must inform Lord Codex of this!" The messenger quickly dismissed the guards who just reported in and ran to the throne room, barging through the grand doors. “Lord Codex!” The messenger’s ears drooped as he saw the dark lord wake up unceremoniously from his nap on his throne, grumbling straight towards him. "WHAT! WHAT IS SO IMPORTANT THAT YOU FELT THE NEED TO BARGE IN MY THRONE ROOM!?" shouted Codex as he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and outstreched his front legs in a yawning motion. The messenger quickly bowed down in fear. "M-m-m-m-m-” the poor pony quavered, unable to get even a single word out. Codex facehoofed in frustration at his babbling subject. “Just spit it out, will you? Unless you wish to have a cozy stay at the dungeon-”         “No no no,” the messenger laughed nervously while wiping some sweat of his mane, “that won’t be necessary.” He cleared his throat and began speaking. “My lord, we have just received news that Baelfel had gone on a rampage and he annihilated Arcedeus.”         Codex’s eyes almost expanded to the size of planets as he heard this news. “WHAT!?” he bellowed worriedly, shaking in his throne. Arcedeus was a formidable creature of immense strength. He was the guardian of the third world and he was supposed to be the last line of defense, should Button Mash best Quicksilver. "My Lord! What do we do now?" the messenger shakily asked, concerned at his master’s shakened up disposition. “The third chain has been broken and Button Mash is closing in.”         The tyrant rubbed his temples, trying to get the gears in his head to churn on turbo. Everything was falling apart at the seams, and if he didn’t fix it, he might have some sort of supervillain mental breakdown. “Okay, so all my lackeys are kaput, my plans are falling apart at the seams and I’m running out of options. No problem,” the unicorn uneasily smiled until and idea popped into his head. “Get the pest’s fillyfriend and let’s take her on a little trip to the arena.” "Hmph, well fought Button Mash!" Quicksilver complimented as he flew from point to point, trying to hit the brown colt who was jumping left and right. He was careful to not fly into anticipating hooves or readied buckings, as he had been battered and bruised by plenty of those already. “What inspires you to fight, young warrior?” the pegasus huffed, the fatigue of battle beginning to show on the gray pony. “Is there something you are fighting for?” "Yeah, my family and friends,” Button replied as he ducked one of Quicksilver’s charges but was too slow to respond with a headbutt. Quicksilver chuckled at Button Mash's typical answer. "Hah! And here I thought you was fighting Lord Codex so that YOU could take the throne.” He then tried to charge Button again, only to be met with a grapple by the young colt, locking them in a battle of strength "I have no interest in the throne." Button replied as he tried wrangling his foe down, only to be slapped by a wing. "All I want to do is live a simple life." The white knight raised a eyebrow. "If you have no interest in the throne then why are you here?" he asked. "Why would you go through all this trouble to fight Lord Codex?" "Honestly, I wouldn't be fighting him if he hadn't fillynapped my girlfriend." A sudden explosion interrupts the bout between the two. “What was that?” Button asked as they both broke their grip on each other. A thunderous roar filled the air as a humanoid figure came crashing down from above. The two ponies stared at each other, both coming to an unspoken agreement that there is a bigger matter between their fight at hoof. The duo slowly approached the figure only to discover that it was a half-burnt minotaur struggling to crawl away.         It didn’t get very far. Quicksilver and Button jumped opposite directions to avoid two huge claws crashing down on the minotaur. The two were looking at a huge red dragon right in front of them. The beast had two horns sticking out of its head, growling smoke out of its mouth. It’s the dragon I saw earlier! Button Mash thought. The dragon slowly turned towards Button Mash, its tail almost flailing against Quicksilver’s head. The earth pony slowly backed away as the dragon licked its lower chops, puffing smoke out of its nose. Button quickly tried to roll to the side but he got caught in the dragon’s horn, flinging him away. With Button out cold a dozen meters away, the dragon turned its attention to an unflinching Quicksilver whose wings were poised to go. “Come on!” he yelled as he took off at lightning speed, going directly under the dragon then flying upwards. The reptile fumbled a bit before he was able to take off as well, both flyers chasing each other in hot pursuit. Button managed to stir after a few minutes, getting hazy glimpses of a big red blur and a small gray blur duking it out in the sky. Streaks of fire blazed the clouds, each one almost hitting the gray figure. Quicksilver could be seen zooming towards the dragon, only to bounce off due to the sheer thickness of its scale. When Button got to his hooves, he saw a big burning ball  directly hit the pegasus, sending him spiraling down in smoke. The brown pony cried “Woah, woah, woah!” when he saw the dragon swoop up towards him. Unfortunately, his little brown legs could only carry him so far before the wings of a gargantuan monstrosity caught up with him. The dragon grabbed the terrified pony in his claws before whisking him away parts unknown. Saving... "Are you sure my lord?" One of his servants gave him an unsure look before looking back at the sleeping pony. “She will most definitely be… less than happy.” Codex growled at his subject’s insolence. “I’m sorry, maybe you didn’t hear me right.” He walked up to the servant who talked back to him until they were snout-to-snout and he stared into his eyes a gaze that could rival Fluttershy’s. “I told you to wake her up, and when I say something, you DO IT!” The servant flinched at his master’s anger before he quickly bowed in reverence with his companion. “Y-y-yes, of course. Sorry, your lordship. It was not my place to question your greatness and wisdom.” The evil unicorn never broke his cold gaze. “You’re darn right it isn’t. Now wake her up.” The two servants share a nervous look before they approached the coffin. Slowly, they lifted the lid off and placed it beside the coffin. The two were internally arguing between each other for who’d wake her up. ‘You wake her up’ ‘No, you do.’ ‘I’ve got a kid. I don’t plan on having my foal growing up with dad whose neck is broken.’ ‘Hey, you were the one who talked back to the boss.’ The servant smirked as he knew his friend had been beaten. He watched a bit fearfully as his comrade nudged the slumbering filly. She slowly began to stir, much to the fear of the the two underlings. The two servants practically teleported behind their lord in cowardice, fearing what the filly might do. Instead, she only sat up yawning, struggling to open her eyes. “What happened? Where am I?” she wondered. She opened her eyes to see a smug unicorn looking at her with two flanks sticking out behind him, both shivering. “Well, well, look who it is,” Sweetie jumped out of her sleeping area and cracked her neck in front of her fillynapper. “Mister Cheapshot himself.” "That's LORD Cheapshot too you,” Codex indignantly corrected her, realizing his mistake when a smirk appeared on Sweetie’s face. “I mean LORD CODEX!” Sweetie Belle shrugged, making no effort to hide the fact that she didn’t care at all. “Sure, whatever. So, are you here to grovel beneath me, surrender, and admit defeat?” Codex just laughed maniacally, “Give up? Surrender? Defeat? Me? Ohohohoh, that’s rich.” He wiped a tear from his eyes as he laughed even harder, creeping the little filly out. “Oh, my little filly, how wrong you are.” His expression snapped from happy to cold serious in a split second. “Chain her now.” Sweetie didn’t notice one of the servants managed to sneak behind her until he attached a metal collar on her neck by surprise. The collar had a chain attached to it, the other end being in the servant’s mouth. "What the?!" She pulled on the collar to no avail, then tried chewing on the chain. That didn’t do much either. “Get this chain off of me!” she demanded, growling at Codex. She stepped forward menacingly before spears starting pointing themselves dangerously close to her chest. She shuffled back and gulped, much to a certain dark lord’s delight. Codex smirked between two lumbering armored ponies whose weapons were poised threateningly at the filly. “How about no?” He turned around while flairing his cape and motioned to the guards and servants. “Come, come. Let’s take her to the arena.” The four ponies reverently bowed before following him, dragging Sweetie Belle along. “Your little coltfriend has been a real annoyance, you know?” he looked back at the marshmallow unicorn who simply glared back. “It seems that he’s on his way here right now.” It was Sweetie Belle’s turn to smirk. “Looks like you’re about to get your flank kicked!” she yelled, her voice cracking in excitement. All six ponies cringe a bit as a roar filled their ears from above. “That must be them,” Codex looked upwards in anticipation. "Them?" Sweetie Belle tried to stop the shaking in her voice. She wondered what would happen to her coltfriend. Codex just chuckled. "Oh you'll see." He turned to his lackeys with a devious smile. “You, take her to the center of the arena and make sure she STAYS there,” he commanded them before he turned around and went ahead. “She wouldn’t want to miss this.” “Lemme go!” Button screamed, flailing around in the claw of the dragon. “LEMME GO!” He managed to struggle himself free only to quickly grab the claw again before he fell to his death. “ON LAND PREFERABLY!” he shouted in fear. The beast ignored his cries. Instead, it swooped down towards the last huge chain that connected to Codex’s Castle. The colt watched in wonder and terror as the reptile spat a fiery breath, melting the metal and breaking the chain. He then felt himself get lifted up and he saw that they were approaching a coliseum-like building. It was circular and white, much like the Roaman Coliseum Button studied about in history class. However, while it was marble and large, it didn’t have multiple entrances like the Roaman coliseum. It seemed to be more for fighting than for spectacle. The earth pony had no time to awe at the structure when a white speck tied to a pole caught his eye. Sweetie Belle! The dragon flew closer to the ground, getting ready to land. “Curse you, Baelfel!” Button knew exactly who screaming. “I should have destroyed when I defeated you the first time, you beast!” The brown earth pony turned his head to see the gray pony growling at the dragon. The unicorn’s anger vanished when he saw what the dragon had in his claws. “Oh, you brought Button Mash,” Codex deviously smiled. Baelfel flung Button Mash away and diverted all of his attention to the smug unicorn who was atop the walls of the coliseum. Codex’s horn shimmered blue as beams started shooting out towards the dragon, prompting its take-off. The beast flew left and right, avoiding rays of energy coming from the ground. “I was hoping you and Button Mash would have taken care of each other,” the gray pony grimaced as he continued shooting at the flying reptile. “Oh well, I can squash both of you on my own anyway!” The two battling powerhouses failed to notice the unconscious figure that was thrown to the wall. Button… Wake up Button… Sweetie Belle is calling for you Button, you must get up! We have used our power to take control of the dragon… Remember Button Mash that you are never alone...But if you do not escape from this world then they will take everything you hold dear and corrupt your world as they see fit. But do not worry young pony, for in your times of need we shall lend your our power! When you return to your world… find and defeat their Chosen One! Button Mash slowly stirred himself back in consciousness holding his head. "What? Who's they? Chosen One?" He slowly got back to his hooves with his vision still shaky. "BUTTON, BUTTON ARE YOU OK?!" Sweetie shrieked from afar. "Yeah…” Button weakly groaned. “Yeah, I’m fine Sweetie.” The colt took a few second to process what he just said. His eyes widen in shock and his ears perk up, “Sweetie Belle!” He turned and saw the white unicorn tied to a pillar in the middle of the arena. Sweetie Belle breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh, I'm so glad that your-" She couldn’t finish her sentence as Button Mash interrupted with a passionate kiss on her lips. "Heh, you couldn't even wait till you got me out of these chains could you?" Sweetie chuckled as she looked down to the floor, trying to hide the crimson on her cheeks. "Nope," he replied as he removed the chains from around Sweetie Belle and pulled her in for a hug. "Oh, the things I had to go through to rescue you." He gave her another kiss. "But I saved you...My princess." The unicorn filly laughs. "Well then my knight, when we return home." She looks at Button Mash with bedroom eyes. "How about I give you a...Hero's reward?"   Button Mash nervously chuckled while his propeller hat spun wildly.     "AHEM!" Button Mash and Sweetie Belle quickly looked back. "Aren't you two getting ahead of yourselves?" The unicorn king slowly walked towards them with a menacing smirk on his face and a lifeless dragon behind him. "One down, and one more to go. You will regret challenging my rule Button Mash! And since you two love each other sooooo much you don't get to die alone, isn't that great?" Enough Codex! "Huh?" Codex lspun around wondering who called his name. Button Mash an Sweetie Belle looks around as well wondering what's happening now. You Have Failed Us Codex! We Gave You One Simple Task And You Failed! "What?! What task?" He asked confused. For Your Failure We Herby Banish You To The Realm Between Worlds! "WHAT?!" A black portal appears below Codex dragging him into the darkness. Sweetie Belle latched on to Button Mash as they watch in horror as the evil king dragged off to his demise. "NO... IT CANNOT BE!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" The portal disappears with Codex in tow. Button Mash and Sweetie Belle looked at the spot where Codex once stood. "Button...What just happened?" "No idea." Once again both ponies disappear in a flash of light. "Ohh, now what?" Button Mash groaned as he sat up. "Now where are we?" He soon finds himself in a very familiar place. "It can’t be." The shocked earth pony quickly shook Sweetie Belle awake. "Sweetie, Sweetie wake up!" She sits up rubbing her head. "Ugh, Button where are we now?" "MY ROOM!" he excitedly exclaimed. "SWEETIE BELLE WE’RE BACK IN MY ROOM!" He quickly hopped onto his bed. "See? Here's my bed, and my figurines, my posters, and my saddlebags!" He gestured toward each of his items as he said it. "Button Mash, look." Sweetie gasped, her gaze locked to the screen. Button looks at the screen, and a small smile formed on his young face. You're a true hero Button Mash! Thank you for saving us! He got up from his bed and turned off the game. "Well, I think that's enough video games for one day." He removes the cartridge from his game console. He turned and faced Sweetie Belle. "Now what?" She grinned naughtily and pushed Button on his bed with her on top. "Now this." She sensually kissed him for going through the trouble of fighting to get her back from her fillynapper. Button Mash wrapped his hooves around her pulling her close and.- "Ahem." Sweetie Belle and Button Mash looked at the doorway where a light brown mare was standing with a eyebrow raised. "Hi Mom!" Button tried to play it off, talking like he didn’t get caught doing very age-inappropriate things with his fillyfriend by his mother. Milano rolled her eyes playfully. "Honestly you two, would it kill you to close the door and put something on the knob so that I know that you two are busy, like they do in college." "Sorry," they both replied, blushing furiously. "Well, anyway, I came up here to tell you that dinner's ready, Oh and Happy Anniversary! ." She walked downstairs, leaving the two in privacy. "Oh yeah!" exclaimed Button Mash. "I completely forgot about our anniversary." It didn't take him long to realize his mistake. "I-I mean...Crap!" "All, its alright Button," she giggled while giving him another kiss. "I'm willing to forgive you this time." Both get up from the bed and head downstairs for their first anniversary dinner. A few hours later Its nighttime in Ponyville as Princess Luna's moon shined brightly and the stars decorated the night sky. Button Mash and Sweetie Belle had just finished spending their first anniversary together. "So, Sweetie did you enjoy yourself tonight?" asked Button. "Mm-hmm, I had a wonderful time, Button," she replied. Button Mash looks up at the night sky. "Well, it’s getting late. Come on Sweetie, I'll walk you home, but first-" he eyed the trashcan by his house. "Let’s get rid of this." He threw the game inside and took his fillyfriend home... In the middle of the night, Ponyville was a quiet, serene place. Not a soul stirring to break the silence. Save for a pony in a concealing trench coat and a fedora, creeping up towards a certain house. As quiet as a mouse, she crept up towards the trashcan by the residence, slowly opening it. “Yes, he has gotten stronger,” the stranger smiled. A small orb of light was floating next to her, illuminating her coat yet casting a shadow on her face with a eerie yellow glow. It emitted a tiny, soft screeching sound. “Of course, of course. I shall initiate phase two at once.” The mystery pony reached into the trashcan and pulled out a game cartridge. “I shall send it to him at once.” > DLC Rumble's Revenge (Patched) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was a sunny day in the small town of Ponyville, the birds were singing and the townsponies were going about their daily lives. It was springtime and the weather control team decided to make it a cloudless day. All was well in the small town. "BUTTON, RUMBLE, STOP!" Sweetie Belle shrieked. Okay, maybe not so well. Two fourteen-year-old colts were fighting in a schoolyard. One was a brown earth pony and the other was a gray pegasus, both bruised and battered.  Button and Rumble were duking it out during lunch period following Rumble’s venomous confession. All the fillies watched in silence as the sound of each sickening blow filled the air, although some colts started cheering on while others were even taking bets. "Wow,” Diamond Tiara said nonchalantly,  “that escalated quickly.” She winced a bit as she saw Button take a solid hit to the left eye. “Button Mash is the last pony I expected to be any good at a fight,” she told the gray filly next to her as she spectated the bout. Rumble flew towards Button and tried to lift him in the air, but he was quickly denied when the earth pony threw a solid hoof to the underside of the pegasus’ chin. “He’s actually pretty good,” Diamond smirked, not even making an effort to hide how impressed she was. Silver Spoon didn’t flinch at her best friend’s lack of empathy. She didn’t even say anything or look at her. She was simply whimpering softly as tears formed in her eyes. “It wasn’t supposed to be like this,” she quivered, “It was over and we were leaving, but that stupid Button Mash had to hit Rumble first.” It was supposed to be a simple break up. Rumble was supposed to tell Scootaloo that it was over and that he had found somepony else. Both knew that Scootaloo would not take it well but they thought that she would at least respect his wishes. When the time came to tell her however, it all went horribly wrong: Scootaloo denied Rumble broke up with her, instead claiming it was a sick joke. But Rumble was not backing down and continued to tell her that things was over between them. She merely laughed and demanded who was he leaving her for, so he told her. And it got worse. Scootaloo was understandably upset, she wanted to think that he was lying to her or that it was some sort of nightmare, but she knew one thing abpit Rumble that made the realization set in that this wasn't a bad dream. Rumble can’t lie. He couldn't lie to save his life, in fact that's how they started dating in the first place. He had a crush on her and when she asked him about it, he denied it while looking away, but two seconds later he started smiling and they started dating, but this time he was completely straight faced. Then she started screaming at him which brought the attention of her two friends Sweetie Belle and Applebloom, then he screaming back which got Button Mash's attention. Both sides tried in vain to defuse the situation but both of them were still screaming at each other not backing down. Then Rumble said some harsh but true facts about Scootaloo and she ran away crying, Sweetie Belle sent Applebloom to follow her while she stayed behind while Button Mash and Rumble started to argue, then Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon showed up. And, well, you know what happens next. Rumble charged towards Button Mash but he headbutted him on the nose, sending the gray pegasus flying backwards on the ground. The class could have sworn that they saw blood on the patch of grass Rumble was laying on. Button Mash doesn't even let him recover from that vicious headbutt and just pounced on the gray pony, viciously pounding on his face repeatedly with his hooves. The earth pony continued his onslaught despite the fact that blood was already splattering all over his hooves. "Okay class, recess is ov-” The purple pony stopped in shock at the scene happening in her school. “BUTTON! RUMBLE! STOP THIS AT ONCE!” she shouted, rushing over to the two ponies. She tried dragging the brown colt off of the pegasus under him, but he was relentless. It took help from Snips, Snails and Pipsqueak before they got to pry Button Mash off. “ENOUGH YOU TWO!” Cheerilee screamed, looking at the earth pony being held back by the orange and teal pair of colts and the battered pegasus being restrained by the spotted pony. It was evening time in Ponyville now, After what happened at school, Miss Cherilee ended class early so that she could deal with Button Mash and Rumble. Silver Spoon remembered her coltfriend leave with his brother; probably on his way to a hospital for his broken nose and many bruises and cuts. She also remembered going to his house to check up on him. His room was a complete mess, things were thrown on the floor, pictures of himself and Button Mash ripped in half and scattered around, his bed was upside down and his covers were all over the place and his walls had many hoof-shaped holes in them and his blinds were closed, making his room dark. Most importantly, she saw a broken Rumble bawling into his hooves on the floor, wracking with every sob. Silver Spoon walked up to Rumble and hugged him tightly. "Don't worry Rumble," she said softly as she stroked his mane. "Everything is going to be alright." That was three months ago. "Rumble, stop! That tickles!" Silver Spoon giggles as her coltfriend kisses her neck. Its has been a rough three months but as they say, time heals all wounds. Diamond Tiara looks at the couple and rolls her eyes in playful annoyance. "Ugh, can’t you two be affectionate somewhere else?" With time and with Silver Spoon’s and surprisingly, Diamond Tiara’s help, Rumble recovered and started to smile again. "Seriously, you two are so sweet on each other that I might have to amputate my leg." Rumble stops kissing Silver Spoon. "Then why are you in my room Diamond?" He resumes cuddling Silver Spoon. "Sometimes I think you like watching us,” he coyly smiled. Diamond Tiara face turns a little red. "N-n-no I don't," she stammers as she avoids eye contact with the couple. "I'm just bored and Silvy wont let me have any fun, that's all."     "Ohohoho if that’s the case, DT, then why didn't you say something?” Silver teasingly clucks as she grabs her best friend by her pink hoof and pulls her closer. Rumble puts his free hoof around her, much to her surprise. “There we go,” Silver grinned naughtily. "W-W-WHAT?!" Diamond Tiara's face turns from pink to pure red. "B-B-BUT HE'S YOUR COLTFRIEND!" "And your my best friend." She goes back to cuddling Rumble. "So I don't mind sharing, right Rumble?" Rumble just sits there like an idiot, he didn't know rather to agree or disagree, so he played it safe and hoped for a distraction. "Hey Bro, Derpy just delivered a package," Thunderlane walks into his younger brothers room and finds him with two fillies around his hooves. "For you." He gives Rumble the package and leaves the room a bit teary-eyed. "I've never been so proud and jealous in my life," he sniffed as he closed the door behind him. Rumble looks at the package confused. "That's weird, I don't remember ordering anything." He opens it and a game cartridge falls out. "Eh? what's this? Hero's Quest?" "Hmm, it looks like one of you-know-who's video games," Diamond Tiara chimes in. "I wonder how many bits did he spend to get this?" Rumble looks at it not moving, as if he was lost in thought. Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara look at him curiously. Then suddenly he breaks the game in half. "Oops, it broke," he smiles at the wreckage and tosses it aside.   "Man, Rumble, that was cold," Diamond Tiara laughs, alongside Silver Spoon. Suddenly, a black orb appears in front of them and falls on the floor, exploding in black smoke. A gray unicorn with a brown mane and blue eyes rose out of the darkness. "Well, that was something." He looks at the three with some interest. "Okay, where am I, and who are you?" he asks blankly, eyeing the three ponies he appeared in front of. "I think the bigger question is who are you, and how did you get in my room?" Rumble demands, growling at the intruder and defensively hiding the fillies with him behind his wings. The gray unicorn scoffs. "Fine then, know my name and fear it. I. AM. CODEX.” > DLC Rumble's Revenge Part 2 (Patched) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Fine then, know my name and fear it. I. AM. CODEX.” Rumble, Silver Spoon, and Diamond Tiara stared at the gray unicorn with disinterest drawn across all of their faces. “Alright Codex,” Rumble calmly began, “So, tell us how you ended up here.” Codex dramatically tossed himself on Rumble's bed and covered his face with his hoof. “Oh my little ponies, my story is about a good and noble king who was utterly and truly defeated.” “I asked how did you end up in my room, not your life's story,” Rumble replied as he crossed his hooves and rolled his eyes in annoyance. Codex continued his story, ignoring the gray pegasus. "Yes, utterly and truly defeated by that evil brown earth colt Button Mash and his vile fillyfriend, Sweetie Belle!” The two fillies in the room shared a nervous look with each other. “Whelp, it was nice knowing you Codex,” Diamond Tiara nervously said, “But look at the time, we really have to get going.” She grabbed Silver Spoon’s hoof and quickly tried to bolt for the door, only to be stopped by Rumble’s outstretched hoof. “No, no, please stay,” he gestured for them to sit down again, “I promise I won’t go off.” He turned to the unicorn on his bed who was now smiling because he knew that he had the pegasus’ attention. “Please, continue your story.” "Er, right. So anyways I was once a good and noble king who ruled my land with peace and harmony." He sat up on the bed and turns to look at the trio with a very serious look on his face. "But all that changed when Button Mash attacked!" His serious look instantly turned somber. " He was restless in his assault attacking village after village." The unicorn clutched his hoof, breathing heavily as he tried to push back the tears in his eyes. "So my faithful ponies called out, begging me to stop Button Mash and his evil ways! After finding the evil colt, I challenged him to one on one honorable duel." He closed his eyes and fell back on the bed, clutching his chest dramatically. "But alas I was defeated and his companion opened a portal and threw me inside."   "PfffffHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Rumble started to laugh incredibly hard, much to discomfort of his two companions and the confusion of his new guest. "I'm sorry, I did I say something funny in my story?" he huffed indignantly. "I’m glad you find my suffering amusing,” he growled at the pegasus. Rumble finally calmed down from his outburst, wiping a tear from his eye. “Oh my, that’s hilarious. Did you really think I’d fall for that?” He was answered only with an angry glare from the unicorn. “Riiiight, okay then. I believe we haven’t properly introduced ourselves, have we?” he smiled as he nuzzled the gray pony next to him. “I’m Rumble, and this is Silver Spoon.” “I guess I’ll play along too,” the third pony sighed resignedly. “I’m Diamond Tiara. By the way, Mister Crazy over there is Rumble, ex-best friend of the uh, evil Button Mash.” "Wait." Codex chimed in as he raised a hoof. "Ex-best friend? So that would indicate past tense."   They nodded in confirmation. "Hahaha! This is perfect." The gray unicorn clapped his hooves together in glee. “If you don’t mind me asking, why did you two fall out? What did he do?” "It’s not what he did,” Rumble responded as he narrowed his eyes, “it’s what he didn’t do.” The ex-unicorn king blinked blankly at Rumble’s vague answer, but he dropped the issue and continued. “Well, given that you and Button Mash seem to be… uh… in conflict, I suppose that you want some revenge?” The pegasus’ eyebrow rose in interest. “I tell you, he would be very shocked to see me, and even more shocked if I get my way. Although, I’ll need your help.” "Mind if I come along?" Diamond Tiara asked with a sadistic grin worming its way to her face. “I haven’t messed with those blank flanks in a long time, and I think it’s overdue.” "The more the merrier," Codex bellowed a hearty laugh before turning back to Rumble. “So? Are you interested in some payback?” Rumble's devious smirk gave his answer. Two days after Button Mash's and Sweetie Belle's anniversary and after Button's adventure in Paradise Island, our fourteen year-old hero Button Mash was telling his story to Applebloom and Scootaloo, both of them looking at him with looks of disbelief. "Well, Sweetie Belle,” the orange pegasus turned to her friend with a sad look, “looks like Button Mash has officially lost it.” The four friends were outside in a field enjoying their summer vacation. The Cutie Mark Crusaders were taking a break from finding their special talents when Button Mash showed up. "But he's telling the truth Scoots,” Sweetie Belle replied, ignoring the pegasus who was rolling her eyes. “We really were transported into the game and some loser named Codex fillynapped me.” "Okay, say you are right,” Scootaloo cynically stated, “so where is this magic game, huh?” Button Mash facehoofed in frustration as he answered the naysayer, “I threw it in the trash.” Sweetie Belle nodded in confirmation. “It’s too dangerous to let anypony else get their hooves on it.” The two fillies looked at Sweetie Belle unsurely. “Umm, Sweetie?” Applebloom began, “Ah think ya should come with us for a lil’ uhh… talk.” The yellow and orange fillies quickly whisk away the unicorn out of Button’s earshot. The brown pony merely raised an eyebrow as they rushed away, dismissing it as merely mare-talk. “Pssst… Button… Hey, Button!” Button turned around to the voice, only to find nothing, only bushes and trees around the field. He shrugged it off as nothing, and he was about to return to idly standing around when he saw something glistening in the sunlight behind a bush. Careful and curious, the pony walked towards the bush which was now rustling a bit. Button took a deep breath before peeking into the bush. To his surprise, a familiar teal unicorn with a spiky mane colored like her coat, only lighter. Her mane was a mess with the wayward strand here and there and her eyes had bags under them, Button noted. What was most puzzling, however, was the tin foil helmet shining in her hooves. “Oh…” Button whimpered, unsure of what to make of what he’s seeing. “Hello Miss Lyra, wha-” Mid-sentence, Lyra shoved the helmet on top of Button’s head and leaned closer to him, making the shushing gesture with her hoof and covering his mouth with the other. The earth pony simply stared at her silently in a mixture of fear, wonder and disbelief. The mare quickly looked around, as if she were fearing that something was following her and unknowingly, the colt followed her example, looking at whatever she was looking at. When the seemingly insane pony was convinced she wasn’t followed, she leaned in even closer to Button Mash, almost at snout-to-snout distance. "Button Mash, listen to me.” she urgently whispered. "You are in terrible danger, I've been having these weird dreams and you and some other pony are in them, at first I thought that it might have been Princess Luna but, these dreams, these dreams feel all too real, I'm scared Button, scared that something is coming for Equestria- no the world." Button continued to listen to the paranoid mare. "Look you HAVE to find The Doctor, he will help you, as I saw in my dreams.” "The Doctor?" Button Mash hushedly asked, masking the mare’s soft voice but with a lot more confusion. "Who is he? How would I even find him if I don’t know what he looks like?" Lyra rubbed her head in thought, trying to remember something. "A pegasus, I think? Yes a light blue pegasus, wearing a black scarf. He may not look like much, but in my dream he will be your greatest ally." She looked at Button with an intense glare, as if there was nothing she was more sure of in the world. "Against the darkness, when you meet him say these two words and he will help you." She leaned in even closer, so close that her mouth was next to Button’s ear. "Dark Force." The young earth pony just gave Lyra a bewildered look. He had so many other questions. "Dark Force? What is that?" he tried to ask but the unicorn quickly galloped away, leaving his answer in the air. Button slowly walked back to the middle of the field with his mind bursting with questions. He, along with everypony in Ponyville knew that Lyra Heartstrings was a bit touched in the head. Bon Bon even gives her friend medications to prevent her… episodes. Yet she spoke with such surety and belief that Button Mash was inclined to believe her. "Hmm, Dark Force? The Doctor?" pondered Button as the three fillies returned from their little chat. "What's the matter Button?" asked Applebloom. "You seem lost there and what's with the tin foil hat?" She eyed the object sitting in place where the colt’s trademark propeller hat should be. Button quickly looked up and knocked the hat away. "Oh nothing, so what were you girls talking about?" Scootaloo and Applebloom glance at Sweetie Belle. "Oh you know, girl stuff." "Ah, okay." He looked at the girls with an eager smile on his face. "So what should we do now?" "How about going back home and do what you do best…” “Being losers!” The four friends rolled their eyes at the sound of those voices. "What do ya what Diamond?" Applebloom scowled, not even turning to look at them. "Not even a hello, how typical of you Applebloom.” She smiled, feeling good about taunting the blank flanks again. "We haven't seen each other in such a long time that Silver and I just had to say hello." Silver Spoon glanced over towards Scootaloo who looked like she was going to bust a blood vessel. "Hello Scootaloo, its been a while hasn't it?"     "It hasn't been long enough," the orange pegasus growled between clenched teeth. "Oh Scootaloo," Silver taunted, adjusting her glasses. "Are you still upset about that day? Its been over three months, just let it go and you'll feel much better." Scootaloo charged towards Silver Spoon, wings buzzing, but Sweetie Belle and Applebloom scrambled to hold her back. "YOU KNOW WHAT'LL MAKE ME FEEL BETTER?!! BASHING YOUR FACE IN, THEN I'M BASH HIS FACE IN THEN I'LL FEEL BETTER!!!” "Oh dear," the pink pony mocked the scowling pegasus. "Applebloom, do try and keep that chicken under better control." Applebloom glared at their two tormentors. "Keep it up Tiara and I'll sic her on ya." “That’s not fair,” a familiar colt’s voice came from the air, “why do you two get to have all the fun?” A gray pegasus descended from above, wearing a nasty smirk as he landed in between the two fillies. “Hey, baby,” he lovingly said as he passionately kissed the gray earth pony, careful to emphasize the smooching noises. This sent Scootaloo in a rage once more as she tried to lunge towards them with tears in her eyes, still held back by her two friends. Button Mash knew that this situation was about to get very ugly, so he stepped in between the Crusaders and Rumble’s group. The gray pegasus broke his kiss with Silver Spoon and glared at the pony standing in front of him. "Button Mash," he calmly acknowledged the brown pony in contrast to his glare, which was anything but calm. “Rumble.” The two ex-best friends continued to glare at each other, waiting for one of them to make a move. "So Button, how have you been?" Rumble started in a surprisingly civil way. "I was doing fine till you showed up," he replied with annoyance. "Come to take your revenge for the beating I gave you three months ago?" Rumble's eye slightly twitched. "Heh heh heh. You think you’re sooo good, do you Button? Well you'll be happy to know that I just recently acquired a partner." He chuckled darkly, waiting for this moment. "I believe you know him quite well."   "Oh really? Who would be dumb enough to join forces with you?" "FILLIES AND GENTLECOLTS!!!" Button Mash and Sweetie Belle faces instantly dropped. "No, it can’t be him." "Introducing his glorious return, the almighty, all-powerful, the down but not out, the one and only CODEX!!!" The ex-king appears with fireworks in the background. "Good to see you again...Button Mash!" "I gotta admit he certainly knows how to make a entrance,” Diamond Tiara admitted, admiring the fireworks. Button Mash staggered backwards in shock. "It can’t be you! How?!" Seeing his chance, Rumble tackled Button while the unicorn puts up a shield so that no pony can get in or out. Button was trapped with Codex and Rumble. Sweetie Belle quickly ran up to the barrier and frantically pounded on it to no avail. “Button!” she shrieked in horror. "Well, Button," Codex had a sadistic smirk on his face, eyeing Button Mash like a timberwolf would watch its prey. "It’s just the three of us now." Rumble pounded his hooves together. "Now it’s payback time." The Crusaders could only watch as Button Mash was horrifically beaten by Codex and Rumble, neither of them showing any mercy to the earth pony. "Poor little Button Mash," mocked Codex as he helped him up so that Rumble could hit him in the gut. "Can’t do anything?" The two continued to beat Button Mash into the ground. Sweetie Belle just pounded on the barrier harder, crying at her helplessness as she watched her coltfriend get savagely beaten. "Oh how I've waited for this." Rumble leaned his head back and headbutted Button Mash on his nose, breaking it just as Button did to him three months ago. Button lay on the grass bloody, beaten, and unconscious.   "Whew that felt good," Rumble said. "Well, I'm done." Codex nodded in agreement. "Ahh, that was most satisfying."     “CODEX!!! YOU IDIOT!!!” Everypony looked up at sky and a gray colored mare was looking down on them, her face scrunched up in annoyance as she glared at the unicorn behind the shield. "I didn't bring you here so that you could ruin the master’s plan." She landed on the ground revealing herself to be the Mail Carrier of Ponyville, Derpy Hooves. "You was supposed to fix their friendship, not make it worse." She had an angry air around her, slowly walking towards the barrier Codex put up. With a simple touch of the hoof, the energy dome dispelled, letting Sweetie Belle rush to an unconscious Button. “What?” the ex-king sputtered in shock. How could a mere pegasi defuse his shield? His shield of all shields. He growled a bit as magic particles swirled around his horn. “I’ve had enough of this trash about these so-called masters. I am the only master!” A beam fired from his horn, only to dissolve as the pegasus walked through it and ended up right before the unicorn. “Bu-bu-but… how?” Codex stuttered in fear, his voice shaking. Sweetie Belle was utterly confused. How did Derpy know Codex and why did she say that she brought him here? Unless. "It was you!" Sweetie Belle cried at the realization "You delivered that game to Button! You sent us to Paradise Island!" "Actually the masters wanted Button Mash alone to go to that world," the mare informed Sweetie, "You see little pony, this world is all wrong… And the masters said that they needed to fix it! You see, there is something out there that hates Button Mash and the masters decided that it was time he left, but that backfired when you went with him, the masters needed you Sweetie Belle." "But why?!" Derpy waved her hoof again and Rumble and his friends disappeared. "The masters needed all of the Cutie Mark Crusaders in this world, but this world is wrong, as Button Mash and Rumble should be friends not enemies. All shall be safe and happy as it should be always and forever!"   Sweetie Belle heard enough and her horn glowed a faint green. "Tell your masters to go suck it!" She shot Derpy with a magical spell, knocking the pegasus mare out cold. The crusader trio stared at the unconscious pegasus trying to understand what was happening. Sweetie Belle wiped some blood off the unconscious Button Mash. "Girls," Sweetie said. "I think something is coming, something evil."
