Do a barrel roll
After Rainbow Dash had entered the Wonderbolts, she started training really hard with her fellow Wonderbolts learning every existing type of flying maneuver, but she especially practiced with Soarin, who also became her close friend. One day after the usual training session:
"Hey Rainbow” Soarin yelled.
Rainbow looked down and made her way across the sky to get to Soarin; she came down and dropped to her feet.
“What’s up Soarin?”
“Guess what I just find out?” said Soarin in a sing songy way.
“Ooh! New gossip!” she said in an excited tone.
“Nope, have you ever heard about the “Barrel Roll”?”
"The... Barrel Roll.” She said as her head slightly tilted “What is it?” she paused and thought, “Is he a new Wonderbolt!?" Rainbow Dash said in an excited tone.
"Nope,” Soarin said as he shook his head in a playful way “It's a legendary maneuver."
“Awesome let’s try it out!!!” Rainbow Dash took flight.
“Whoa! Whoa! , hold on!” Soarin quickly grabbed Rainbows hoof, and brought here down to the ground… they looked at each other. “oh, uh… sorry” Soarin let go of her hoof, and then continued to talk “this is a very dangerous maneuver.”
Rainbow exclaimed "Wow. That sounds awesome"
"Of course it is, Rainbow. But you gotta remember to stay P.E.P.P.Y” sais Soarin as he booped rainbow’s nose with his hoof.
Rainbow blushed a little and then swiped Soarin’s hoof off “ P-peppy?” she said in a confused manner.
“Yep PEPPY it stands for” Soarin flew off , then came back with dressed as a teacher and rolled in a chalk board and began writing and explaining:
Perilous
Electrifying
Plane
Pegasus
Yolo
“And that’s PEPPY” Soarin said with a confident grin on his face.
Rainbow began to examine the white writing on the green chalk board.
“Yolo…What’s a Yolo” Rainbow Dash said in a curious manner.
Soarin responded “It stands for you only live once…”
“Where did you hear that from?” Rainbow questioned
“I heard Lyra saying it and sound cool and dangerous.”
((It isn’t, Yolo County is boring as hell))
“Oh, got it. And tell me, how do you do a barrel roll?" Rainbow Dash said scratching her head.
"I don't know Rainbow. Why it would be called a legendary maneuver. Nopony has seen one before"
"Oh, okay see ya later. I’m tired…" Rainbow kind of looked disappointed. She took off and headed to spitfires office.
“Hey!” Soarin shouted.
Rainbow turned around.
“Try not to kill yourself thinking about it… we’ll figure it out tomorrow” said Soarin in a kindly manner.
Rainbow only responded with a nod and flew towards HQ. When she arrived the front door, She slowly went into the main room which was covered in new and old Wonderbolts’ pictures, old newspapers, old uniforms and trophies they had won over the years. She started thinking about that legendary Barrel Roll Soarin was talking about, she thought about PEPPY. She shook her head to take her mind away from the subject and she went into Spitfire's office.
"Hey, uh, Spitfire" Rainbow Dash said as she opened the door.
"Hey Rainbow Dash, what’s up?"
"I want to have the day off”
Spitfire smile stopped and she lowered her Aviators and stated "Uhm, excuse me… did I hear you right: you want the day off?"
"I want to know more about the legendary of the PEPPY"
Spitfire exclaimed. "Did you say the PEPPY!?...The Almighty Barrel Roll? Oh well, in this case you might need the entire month off if you need. Good luck with that, Rainbow" Spit fire saluted Rainbow. The Pegasus went to Ponyville, where she decided to go to Twilight's Library: there was something sure that could help her research.
"Twilight, are you here?" Rainbow cried.
"Oh, Rainbow. Here, come in" she invited her in; meanwhile Spike was reorganizing some books.
"What do you need?" Twilight asked.
"Have you ever heard about the barrel roll?"
"Uhm... The barrel roll? I think I should have a book about this" she used her horn to look through some books.
"Ah, here you go" She picked a book called "All the Flying Maneuvers" "I think there should be something about the barrel roll"
"Thanks, Twilight" She grabbed the book And said thanks, then she flew away. At her house, she searched the term "Barrel roll": after some skimming through the book, she finally found it on the last page.
To do a barrel roll, you need do to 360 degrease spin. It seems easy, but when you reach the max speed it's very difficult to control it. Although, it's very useful for aerial fights, due to the given possibility of dodging attacks like beams.
"That’s it!? A 360 degrease spin? It doesn't seem so difficult" so she stretched cyan wings and she flied outside into evening sky, it was kind of hard to see, but she didn’t mind it. She readied herself and flew as high as she could then, she dashed forward faster than sound, after reaching the max speed, she started spinning herself around.
<<I don't get why this maneuver it's so lam...>> she couldn't even think at all that she lost the control of her body and she violently crashed on the ground.
<<Ok, the book was right>> she prepared herself again <<But I won't give up after one failure>> And she tried lots of times, most of them finished with a colossal land crush; after trying a lot of times, she finally made it. She did a barrel roll! The sensation of the spin made her feel awesome and unique. But meanwhile as she was flying, she noticed something in the horizon, she noticed there was a big rocky hill getting closer...so Rainbow braced for impact.
<<Well, seems I'm screwed. Oh, wait, maybe the barrel roll will help me!>> the wall was enough far to charge to the max speed and to perform a barrel roll, and Rainbow Dash did so: she reached the max speed then, when the wall was near, she thought <<DO OR DIE, RAINBOW>> and she span herself around, hoping to dodge the hill, but the result wasn't as she hoped: she slammed into the wall, making a broken noise. Before fainting, she thought <<Why didn't it work>>, then she finally fainted when she hit the ground.
Some days later, she opened her eyes: she was surrounded by her best friends, who were saying.
"She's waking up"
"Finally"
Rainbow then said. "Where am I?"
"Rainbow? Thank Faust you finally awoken… You’re at the hospital. We thought it was the end for you!"
"Why I am here?” Then she thought <<Oh, of course, the giant rock wall>> she then rubbed her head.
Doctor Stable entered the room. "Indeed, Rainbow. You had a really terrible impact. You're lucky that wasn't your last stunt." The Doctor stated.
"Well, of course, but why the barrel roll didn't save me?" Rainbow questioned.
At that point, you glanced over too Twilight she then made an embarrassed face. "It's because...that wasn't the barrel roll?"
"What?"
"You see, I brought you this book" she lent her the book "and I made an error. I let you borrow an old edition of this"
"Why it's so important?"
"Because, Rainbow, in the old edition I gave you, the barrel roll was confused with another flying maneuver, the Aileron Roll, a knock off version maneuver"
"That's why I noticed it was too easy, I’m gunna get up and try the real barrel roll"
"Ehm....your wings" twilight coughed.
Doctor Stable completed. "Ehm. That's not possible. You cannot fly...FOREVER"
"Forever....you mean forever"
"Yes"
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" then the next day a funeral was organized to her wings, saying goodbye forever to the air.
