Rainbow Dash gave a quick glance at Twilight. They were both walking back from the park, where they were meeting their friends. Rainbow Dash briefly glanced up at the sky. It was partly cloudy, clouds that she had to painstakingly move around herself because the rest of the weather team had slacked off. Looking off, she could see the sun slowly making it's way down towards the horizon. She gave another quick glance at Twilight before a thought struck her.

Twilight hasn't had too much experience flying yet, after all, Rainbow thought, who could remain on the ground so much after they have experienced the real joy of flying. Rainbow Dash stopped Twilight real quick, whispering a few things to Twilight. Twilight offered a confused look, before Rainbow Dash simply pointed up, and looked expectantly at Twilight. Twilight simply sighed, she'll play along with Rainbow Dash's antics for now.

Rainbow Dash took off slowly, allowing Twilight to keep up as they took off towards the cloud cover. They flew up towards the cloud, Twilight had kept her eyes on the sun, watching the sun seemingly pause in its descent down. They flew around and Rainbow settled down on a cloud, she patted the spot next to her, and Twilight settled down too. Together they watched the sun slowly set.

The sun continued its slow descent, shooting up brilliant colors of purples, blues, oranges, reds. So many colors filled the sky. Twilight she had never seen the sun set like this before. They had a clear view, no trees, hills, mountains or buildings could block the perfect view. Twilight sighed, she shivered slightly, and quickly found a warm, feathery wing draped around her back. She wasn't quite used to the cold as most pegasus were yet. Twilight didn't notice the light blush on Rainbow's face as she scooted closer to Rainbow.

Rainbow closed her eyes real quick. She gently prodded Twilight, once she had her attention, she pointed up at the sky. Twilight had been watching the shadow fall on the land below her. Marveling at the way that the shadow had shrouded the base of her tree house before the top went dark. She looked up at Rainbow's insistence. Her jaw dropped. The stars seemed to be exceptionally bright tonight. No light pollution or pesky clouds to block her star gazing.

After a while, Dash got up and stretched her wings. Twilight shivered again, suddenly missing the warmth, Rainbow beckoned Twilight forward, flapping her wings a few times to get warmed up. Dash and Twilight took flight together, slowly gliding through the air together. Dash itched to go faster, but she knew that Twilight wouldn't be able to keep up. She was a new flier after all. She wouldn't trade this feeling with anything else. Twilight stared out all around her. The glimmer of purple and orange that hung low in the horizon, the stars peeking out from their hiding places. There was a world Twilight could not have ever seen from the ground.

Dash and Twilight continued to fly around, when Dash suddenly got a mischievous idea. She quickly flew in front of Twilight, who was still marveling at the way the wind flowed past her sides, and under her wings. She lightly tapped Twilight on the nose, whispering just enough to be carried by the wind to Twilight. Twilight looked slightly shocked, and in a moment of hesitation, Rainbow Dash took off, flying faster than their gentle glide.

Twilight narrowed her eyes, glaring at the rapidly lengthening rainbow trail that followed that blue pegasus. Immediately she started pumping her wings, she picked up speed, and ignored the dull pain in her wings, muscles already sore from their infrequent use. Flying up she followed the rainbow trail up through the clouds.

Rainbow slowed slightly, allowing the purple mare behind her to slowly gain on her. It would be no fun if she had just completely out flown the egghead, she wanted Twilight to have too. She slowed and stole a glance behind her, she found that Twilight was a bit more determined that she had originally thought. Time to change things up, with a quick twist in air, the agile flier changed direction, diving right past Twilight before Twilight had a chance to react.

Twilight contorted in mid air, trying desperately to turn around. She tucked her wings in, a move she had seen Rainbow perform on numerous of her training runs. Welcoming gravity's embrace once again, she turned in mid air and followed the trail. She idly wondered if it was a good idea, she wasn't as practiced of a flier as Rainbow Dash was. She spread her wings again, but the rush of the wind and the ground moving slowly to greet her. She felt a rush of adrenaline, unable to hold be a laugh. An exhilarating laugh. No wonder Rainbow Dash spent so much time in the sky.

She glanced away from the ground when she noticed something blue fill her view. She saw a wide grin on the very pegasus she was supposed to be chasing. How did Rainbow get over here, she wondered. She saw Rainbow gesture pointing down, before pointing horizontally. She understood, they should pull up soon. A brief glance at the ground confirmed that it was a lot closer than before. She twisted her wings slightly, she pulled up, and Rainbow pulled up gracefully underneath her, flying upside down. She cracked a cocky grin.

Twilight cracked a smile too, reaching out a hoof, and in seemingly slow motion she booped Rainbow on the nose. Cracking a smile, before pumping her wings and taking off towards the horizon. Rainbow's grin faltered slightly, she remembered the game that she started. Twilight had tagged her! She let that slow egghead catch her! The best flier in all Equestria. She cracked another smile, and took off after the purple speck on the horizon.

Rainbow rapidly approached the purple speck, rapidly reforming its shape as a pony as she got closer. Rainbow couldn't stay mad at the fact that she let Twilight tag her, but she didn't care, she could catch the laughter of the pony before her before it was carried away. She noticed that Twilight had slowed down significantly, and the laughter was replaced with heavy panting. Figures, the bookworm wouldn't have that much stamina.

Together they landed on a hill. Twilight was breathing heavily after trying (rather poorly) to out fly Rainbow Dash. The chill of the night had started to settle in, and Twilight shivered, suddenly aware of the cool breeze that blew around them. She was once again thankful to find that blue wing wrapped around her again. She looked up at Rainbow, noticing that light blush on her face for the first time. What would her books say to do in this situation, Twilight briefly pondered before she pushed those thoughts out of her mind. She did the first cheesy thing she could think of. Staring into Rainbow's eyes, she slowed closed her eyes, and closed the gap between their faces.

Together the two took off once again, gliding side by side on their way home. Enjoying each other's company.
