The story of Octavia and the day she was born, this story will tell you where she came from and how she lived her life before she became this professional cello player. Read to find what she went through as a child, from her good and bad times of her life. Every pony has a story to tell but this one is the story of a Hopeful Melody.
It was midnight in Canterlot, the streets were quiet and the sky was clear. The ponies of the city were quickly awoken by the sound of hooves running through the streets, the screams of the soon to be mother echoing out. The wooden carriage was occupied by a dark brown stallion with a dark orange mane named Carnelian Melody, and a bald grey mare named Majestic Melody. The carriage was being pulled by four white stallions rushing to the hospital to give birth to a filly. Once they made it, they rushed to the back of the carriage and slowly carried Majestic into the hospital while Carnelian stood close by to make sure his wife knows he is there for her. They down the corridors of the hospital into a room, but a nurse stopped Carnelian and told him to stay out for health reasons. Carnelian quickly snapped!
"Are you nuts? Don't you see I am the father of that child and the husband of that mare?" said Carnelian with frustration.
"We understand who you are and we do apologize but you have to stay out here until it is safe for the child," said the nurse calmly.
He sighs and slowly walks to a sitting pad and waits with worry. He tries to calm himself but he can not because of worrying how things may be. Carnelian's mother died in childbirth and he doesn't want to lose her. Majestic had a miscarry previously and he doesn't want to lose another child. He sat and prayed to Celestia, for safe guidance. He can't help but worry, but he tries to get rest so he lies his head on the side wall and waits for the news.
Hours later, the nurses woke Carnelian up and Carnelian stood up in a hurry to hear the nurses giving him the okays to go see his wife. He starts to walk to the doors that he was once stopped at. Pushing them open he sees a long hallway with no other hallways connected to it and everything was so clean. The nurses started to guide him to the room which held his family. The nurses left him at the door and continued down the hallway to perform their duties. Carnelian stood outside the door biting his right hoof and hoping for the best but expecting the worst. He pushed the door open to see his wife holding a gray filly. He smiled with the dumbest look on his face he walks over to the bedside and gently picks the filly up. A tear rolls down his face while he held the little filly.
Majestic looked at Carnelian with a smile and said "What are you going to name her?"
"I don't know, I never thought about it. I was more worried that she wouldn't be okay." Carnelian replied still smiling widely.
"How about Octavia?" Majestic questioned.
"Octavia Melody is a beautiful name!" Carnelian answered giving a smile of approval "Hello Octavia, it's me daddy."
The doctor strolls in to notice the family's love, he smiled and laughed. He brought in the filly carriage to take the her for medical treatment, such as shots and to test if the filly has any diseases. The father puts their newborn in the carriage and watched the doctor walk out with the child. He looks back at Majestic, and she starts to cry. Carnelian understood why she was crying and held her, she fell asleep minutes later. The nurse then walked in shortly after Majestic was asleep. The nurse started to question Carnelian.
"If you don't mind me asking, why was she crying? This is a good night for her," asked the nurse with a worried look.
Carnelian looks at the nurse with a confused face and replies,"I am shocked you don't know, as you can see by her head, she has no mane." Carnelian answered.
The nurse nodded her head and letting him continue.
"When she was giving birth to our first child, she gained a terminal illness that wasn't contagious. The doctor said there is no real reason why she was exposed to the condition," Carnelian finished. Talking about his wife's condition always made me uneasy.
The nurse looked at Carnelian and started to apologize as she started to walk out of the room with a shocked but depressed expression on her face. Carnelian rubbed Majestic's head while she slept, to help her sleep. She needed all the rest she could get from what she just went through. The doctor came back in to let Carnelian know that if he wanted to continue to stay in the hospital, he must go to the waiting room. Carnelian was very tired and was slowly walking back to the waiting room to get some rest. Once he got there and sat back down, the nurses provided him with a meal, a blanket, and a pillow for the night. He went to sleep to wait for morning to come.
A dream came to Carnelian in the middle of the night, he was sitting in the middle of the street, the sun was rising and he heard the sounds of screams and anger all around him. As they got louder, Carnelian stood his ground, watching his home. The light of the torches got brighter from both ends of the street, he still sat and watched the house. The mob came and completely ignored him and started to throw the torches toward his house. Carnelian still sitting and watching his home burn, he heard the sounds of his wife screaming and Octavia at the window looking at Carnelian, then he couldn't look anymore. Suddenly Carnelian woke up with a sudden shock and a cold sweat just to notice it was just a dream. He folded his blanket and put his pillow on top of the blanket and set it to the side. As he was thinking about his dream, the first thing he thought of was Octavia, and started to walk to the nursery to see his child.
He looked through the window to see his child right up front. The nurses start to do tests on her to check everything is good. He couldn't walk away from the window, so he took his front hooves and put them on the window and tried to get Octavia too look at him. She couldn't anyways because she couldn't open her eyes. The nurses close the blinds and the doctor started to walk out down the other end of the hallway.
"I'm guessing you are wanting to hear the news about your daughter?" the doctor said with a positive attitude.
"Yes, tell me everything!" Carnelian answered with excitement.
"Octavia is good and healthy, she will be ready to go home with you later today," the doctor stated.
Carnelian smiled with joy and started to run toward Majestic's room. He opened up the door to find, a new patient lying in the bed where she had been. Carnelian was very confused so he turned around to ask a nurse or a doctor for help or guidance. He found a nurse and questioned.
"Where is the pony that was in this room last night?" asked Carnelian with a concerned tone.
"She was moved to the recovery and rehabilitation center down stairs. She's in a very bad condition and too ill to go home today and will be staying with us for another week or so," the nurse replied calmly.
Carnelian started to walk down the stairs and headed to the front desk to get more information where Majestic was located at.
"I'm looking for Majestic Melody, what room is she located in?" he questioned.
"Two-Eighty-Three, right down this hall here," the front desk pony replied pointing it out.
He started to walk down the hallway, to hear nothing but the quietness from any of the rooms. He walked down the hallway counting the numbers on the doors. 279...281...283, he knocked on the door and opened it with a gentle push continuing into the room to see his wife who was lying on a bed having a conversation with the mare next to her in the room. He saw them laughing and enjoying themselves. Carnelian was happy to see his wife was okay. He came into the room to hug and kiss his wife and to be properly introduced to Majestic's new friend.
"This must be your husband?" the mare questioned.
"Oh yes, here let me introduce you Carnelian. This is Fairy Scratch," Majestic said with a smile.
"Pleased to meet you Fairy, so what are you mares talking about?" Carnelian asked.
"Oh, I was telling Fairy about our new filly Octavia," said Majestic smiling. Majestic turned back to Fairy "Do you have a filly now?" Majestic asked curiously.
"Oh yes, her name is Vinyl. She was born days ago but she was ill and wasn't able to leave the nursery for awhile, so they sent me down here until then. From what I was told, she is going to be healthier than ever after they get done with her," Fairy answered.
"Was she the unicorn with the white mane and short blue hair?" Carnelian asked.
"Yes, you've seen her?" Fairy replied.
"Yeah, she was next to our filly in the nursery and she looked really happy to be around so many fillies," said Carnelian with a smile.
They continued to talk about their fillies and their life events, joking around and laughing for hours to come. Then the doctor walked in to talk to Fairy.
"Your child will be perfectly fine and will be ready to go home, so you will be checking out of the hospital today," the doctor said.
Fairy, Carnelian and Majestic all smiled to hear the good news. Fairy got up off of her bed and into a wheelchair, before leaving she spoke to Majestic.
"Try to get me after you get out of here and we can have a play date with our fillies," said Fairy smiling.
Majestic nodded her head with a smile of agreement and she silently laid her head down on the bed while Fairy was rolled out of the room with the doctor.
Carnelian smiled and said "Looks like Octavia is going to have a friend to grow up with now."
Majestic smiled and kissed Carnelian then laid back down to get some more rest. Carnelian sat down on a chair in the room and waited patiently while she slept.
The afternoon has arose from the morning. The sun shined down on Canterlot but it was still very cold during the winter. Carnelian was finally walking outside of the hospital with his wife Majestic after a week of recovery, and the new member of the Melody family. Octavia finally opened her eyes to be welcomed by the sun and the cold but it seemed she didn't mind the cold but the sun was what was bothering her the most. Carnelian covered her head with the blanket to protect her from the sun while she was lying silently in the filly carriage. They then started to stroll back to their home.
Once they got home Majestic and Octavia walked in but Carnelian stood outside too look at his home. He remembered his dream he had that night. He looked down both ends of the streets but nothing but the happy folks of Canterlot. Majestic looked at him through the door and questioned.
"Are you coming inside, or are you going to stay outside and the cold."
"........Yeah, I was just checking the roof on the house." Carnelian stated.
He started to walk inside, he saw Octavia trying to climb up the stairs. Majestic quickly pulled her up and took her into the kitchen. Carnelian walked up the stairs to the master bedroom to lie down on the bed because he was so tired and aching from sleeping in the hospital for a week. He silently started too fall asleep.
Back in the kitchen Majestic started too feed Octavia mashed carrots and started too think to herself.
"Why was he checking the roof, the roof looked okay to me."
She shrugged and continued too feed Octavia on the filly feeding chair. Octavia then started to laugh while the mashed carrots were in her mouth. She spitted all the carrots out of her mouth all over Majestic. Majestic started to try to calm her down so she continue you eating but she was laughing so hard. Majestic started too look toward where Octavia was staring out too, to notice the neighbors cat standing in the back window ceil. Majestic started to smile and looked at Octavia too say.
"That's a cat Octavia, do you like cats."
Octavia just responded with gribbles and grumbles but she had her hooves wide open and stretching toward the cat. The cat had black fur with a large white spot on its bottom and a smaller one on her face and she belonged too the Hooves Family right next door. They also had a filly but she was a little bit more slow than others, her name was Derpy. Once Octavia got done eating she put a blanket around Octavia and put her into the carriage and started to walk next door. She knocked on the door of the Hooves' household, and as they answered they were happy too see who it was.
"Majestic your back and healthy!" The Mare Hooves shouted.
"And we notice you have a new child to greet us with as well!" The Stallion Hooves followed with.
"Oh it is so good too see you both as well." She replied.
She took Octavia inside and brought her out to meet the Hooves's.
"Octavia meet the Hooves', this is Mist Hooves" Majestic said while Majestic was pointing at the Stallion Light Blue Pegasus with a brown mane with an hour glass in his eye, wearing a vest.
"Now Octavia meet Lighting Hooves." Majestic said while Majestic was pointing at the the white mare with a blonde mane and had her hair fixed up."
"Please too meet you Octavia now I think it's time for you to meet the last member of our family." Mist replied.
They turned around to grab Derpy off of the the chair behind them and set her on the floor while Octavia was being set down by Majestic. They sat down on the chairs and started a conversation while Derpy and Octavia started too play.
Back to Carnelian because he had another dream. This time in the dream he dreamed he was on a cloud and saw Octavia on another cloud, but Octavia was playing the Cello and she was grown up. She started to sing a melody but he couldn't hear the lyrics really well. He could only make out, "left me!" and it sounded like she was upset, but very assertive at the same time. A flash of white light blinds Carnelian and Carnelian woke up but not in fear but instead in thought.
"Left me, who left Octavia in the dream!" Carnelian thought to himself.
Walking down the stairs yelling for Majestic, and noticing she wasn't in the household and neither was Octavia. He just started too think she went out with Octavia too show her around, so he started to walk to the kitchen to get a snack and after getting something from the fridge he walked into his study to do some research on his dreams.
Hours and hours of reading he became very irritated because he couldn't even find a lead to what he has witnessed. Not even a slightest trace, so he started his way to the local library, when he got there he tried too open the doors just to find out that they were locked. He put his face up to the glass door to see there was no book inside. He was confused but knew he couldn't do his studies. He started to walk to the market to grab some food, while he was shopping he heard some pony very familiar calling his name.
"Carnelian, guess who?" the mysterious pony asked.
Carnelian turned around to notice Fairy Scratch and her child Vinyl and Carnelian smiled.
"I see your out of the hospital, how about your family?" Fairy asked.
"They are most likely home right now, if you like you can come home with us and join us that play date you promised us."
Fairy started to think and agreed, and followed Carnelian home. Once they started to walk by the the Hooves house, Majestic looked out the window too see Fairy, Vinyl, and her husband holding a basket of food. She quickly ran too the door to yell for Carnelian.
"Carnelian....Fairy over here!" Majestic yelled.
Carnelian looks over and saw his wife hollering for him. Fairy and Carnelian started to gallop too the door. Fairy was introduced to the Hooves and the fillies had another friend to play with so Fairy joined them in the room and set Vinyl down to join in the fun with the others.
It's been almost over a week since Octavia has left the hospital. One night she was lying in her carriage wide awake but just listened to the music that Majestic left on in her room while the full moonlight shined through the window. It was very light music, no vocals and nothing sudden, just very calm and gentle music by the Manehattan Orchestra. As she listened, she started to play along with the music, it was odd but very unique for a filly. She would beat her hooves on the soft cushion and make melodies with her mouth. It didn't sound really well but you couldn't expect much from a filly that's only been alive for only two weeks. After an hour of playing to the music she tired herself out and fell asleep to the sweet melody.
The very next morning Carnelian started to get ready to go back too work at the train station as a conductor. He had two weeks off because of the birth of his daughter but has to go back because of the low amount of money they had left. He got up and putted his formal conductor's uniform on and kissed Majestic while she slept. He walked into Octavia's room too check on her and she was silently asleep with her blanket under her. He took her and the blanket and brought her into the room with Majestic and laid her down next to Majestic and continued off to work.
Majestic woke up to notice Octavia with her tongue out and smacking both her hooves up and down on the pillow with a constant beat.
"Boof.....Boof.....Boof.....Boof!"
"What are you doing Octavia?" Majestic asked with a sweet voice.
"Boof Boof Boof Boof." Octavia's beats just got faster.
She finally started to fling her hooves so hard up and down that when her hands went up for the last time, she lost balance and fell backwards on the bed and started to laugh while Majestic smiled and helped her up. She grabbed Octavia and took her down stair to get some breakfast. She sat her back in the feeding chair and started to make some warm oats for her to eat. Again Octavia started beating her hands against the chair and made a louder noise.
"BANG BANG BANG!"
This made Majestic jump with fear! She looked back to see that Octavia was beating her chair. She turned around to stop Octavia from hurting herself in the chair. Octavia started to gently tug on Majestic's ears and Majestic turned around to continue with Octavia's meal. After Octavia ate her food, she took her to the bathroom to give her a bath. Once Majestic started to bathe her she notice a thin and small mane growing on Octavia's head.
"Octavia, your growing up too quick!" Majestic screamed.
She is just sitting quietly in the tub, while she received her bath, Majestic took her out of the bath and took her into the bedroom and sat her on the bed. Majestic started to speak to her while Octavia was sitting on the bed.
"Since your growing up, I should give you something my Mother gave me when I was your age."
She went into her dresser and pulled out a pink ribbon and turned around too Octavia and said.
"My, mother gave this to me, because she knew as long as I had it I would always know, I would always have her." Majestic said while tying it on her head. "She meant so much to me, and now I want to share that love with you, as long as you wear this ribbon I will always be with you."
Octavia had no idea what she was talking about, but she leaned over and hugged Majestic around the neck, like she would always do after she got a bath. Majestic held her and hugged her. She picked Octavia up and took her down stairs to be put in the filly carriage to go meet up with Fairy to go out to eat. They started to head out of the door. Fairy and Majestic met up at the Betties and Flowers restaurant to grab some food and let Vinyl and Octavia play in an open field.
"Hey, Majestic!" Fairy shouted.
"Hey, how are you doing?" Majestic replied.
They continued the conversation while getting some food and started too head to the National Canterlot Park. Once they got there they sat down on the bench and let Vinyl and Octavia go out and play in the open field.
"Hey do you mind if I ask you a personal question?" Majestic asked.
"Not at all." Fairy replied.
"I've never met your husband, do you mind if I meet him one day." Majestic asked.
Fairy was in the process of putting her sandwich in her mouth and paused to answer the question while setting the sandwich down slowly.
"I've lost my husband months ago." Fairy said with depression.
"I'm so sorry to hear that!" Majestic quickly replied.
"No...no it's okay, it's best if I tell you what happen to get it off my chest because I haven't been able to tell anyone because I had no friends before. Now it's the Hooves and your family." Fairy paused while Majestic nodded.
"His name was Colbalt, he was a construction worker at Manehattan, he was working on one of the skyscrapers on the bottom floor and the bolts weren't attached correctly on the third story and it completely collapsed on top of him." Fairy said while she started to cry.
Majestic put her and Fairy's food to the side and hugged Fairy.
"Fairy, I am sorry for your lost, but to let you know I will always be here to help you and if you ever need me to help you just ask me and I will make sure it happens." Majestic told Fairy
Fairy starts too wipe her tears off of her face and looks at Majestic with a grin.
"You should eat, it will make you feel better." Majestic told Fairy.
"Yeah, your right, I'm just thinking about Vinyl having a father figure in her life." Fairy said looking up to Vinyl.
Vinyl and Octavia were listening to a band playing in the park. There was one Cellist, Guitarist, and Percussionist beating on buckets, pots, and pans.They were just a poor band trying to make some cash. Octavia started to beat her hooves on the ground and Vinyl started to just stare at the band members. They noticed that the fillies started to listening to them and started to pick up there instruments and walk toward them. The band starts to sit down with the fillies and starts to continue too play. Octavia and Vinyl both start banging there hooves on the ground. The percussionist slid his bucket over to Vinyl and the Cellist let Octavia pluck his Cello's string and they continued to jam out with the band.
Majestic and Fairy start to walk over too see what was going on and notice that there children were playing instruments with the band. While the band was just smiling away and the fillies laughing and playing with there own beat. Majestic and Fairy sat down on the ground and started to clap there hooves to the beat of the band. After every song Majestic and Fairy would clap and cheer and the fillies would clap and laugh just for the fun of it.
After the band was done playing for the day they told the fillies, that they had a heart for music and never to drop their dreams no matter what happens. They looked back up to the mothers and bowed and the fillies started to bow with them. Vinyl fell over face first into the grass and they laughed. The guitarist thanked the mothers and the fillies for the entertainment and crowd. He looked down at the fillies and the guitarist took his purple glasses off and gave them to Vinyl and the Cellist took his bow and gave it to Octavia. They bowed there hats and galloped out of the park.
The mothers looked at the fillies and told them to say goodbye to each other. Vinyl leaned over and grabbed Octavia and gave her a hug. They picked them up and set them back in the carriages and started home. Once Octavia got home Majestic took Octavia out of the carriage and sat her down with her toys and took the bow and headed up stairs and sat it on the top shelf in Octavia's room. She continued down the stair to prepare dinner for the family.
An hour later, Carnelian walked in to the smell of dinner in the next room, and yells.
"I'm home, honey."
He walked in the room and started to play and talk with Octavia until dinner was done. Shortly after Majestic screamed for Carnelian to bring Octavia and himself to come eat. Carnelian grabbed Octavia and started to gallop to the dinner table. He sat Octavia down in the feeding chair and sat down to eat his meal with his family.
Carnelian was asleep on a very stormy night, another dream came to him. He started to dream he was in a castle, and wearing a royal guard's uniform and holding a spear that was much taller than he was. The sun was setting and the rain continued too fall on the armor of all the soldiers that were staring out too the sunset. After the sun set, many bright lights filled the night sky and only got brighter as they got closer.
"Take Cover!" was yelled by many royal officers on the castle walls.
All of the stallions panicked while placing the heads between there legs behind the castle walls. As Carnelian looked closer he noticed it was a swarm of flaming arrows heading toward him. He quickly hopped off the wall and took a fall too the dirt as the arrows wounded and killed the soldiers around him. He heard the screams of pain all around him. A officer picked him up, and screamed into his face.
"Soldier! What are you doing? You are going to fight or die for the ones you love, being a coward is not a choice."
The officer started to push Carnelian too the castle gates.
"What do you mean, I'm not a soldier! I am a conductor!" Carnelian screamed.
"How are you so quick to forget the things that had happened, your family is held up in the castle and you were drafted to protect the Canterlot Castle, now get too the gates to replace the fallen ones on the battleground!" The officer ordered.
He was pushed to the gates, with many other Stallions staring at the gate with there spears held up in a very uniform fashion. In the distance you just heard screams and metal clashing against each other.
"Open the gates!" The commander screamed on the walls.
The walls began to open and a bright light shined. Carnelian woke up early in a shock, and jumped up in bed. He looked around to see Majestic was still asleep and he looked down at himself to make sure he wasn't wearing any armor. He took a deep breathe, got out of bed and started to walk down the hallway to check on Octavia. He slowly opened the door while it creaked,and headed inside of the room too look at Octavia sound asleep in her crib. He looked around the room too notice a cello bow sitting on the top shelf of her room. He took it down and started too look at it more closely. He saw a inscription inside that said
"Manhattan Orchestra."
He took the bow and sat it back on the top shelf and just heard Octavia say.
"Daddy!"
Carnelian quickly turned around too hear more closely.
"Did Daddy, just hear you talk, or is Daddy going crazy?" Carnelian said in a very confused state.
"Daddy!" Octavia said once more.
Carnelian couldn't hold his joy in and started to jump around the room and Octavia just stood up in the crib and started to jump around the crib like Carnelian was doing in her room. Carnelian smiled and grabbed Octavia and ran her to the bedroom. He sat her on the bed and started to wake Majestic up.
"Baby, wake up, wake up!" Carnelian started to say poking Majestic.
Majestic woke up slowly to see Octavia and front of her and Carnelian behind her smiling. Octavia leaned over to hugged Majestic on the neck.
"Love You!" Octavia said.
Majestic eyes widen and Carnelian heard what she said and join in the hug. Majestic started to tear up with joy while being hugged by her family. While trying to be careful not to crush Octavia in the middle. She stood up and wrapped her hooves around the family. Carnelian didn't have to work that day so he decided he wanted to spend some time with his family since Octavia is almost six months old now. Later that morning, Majestic decided to make a big breakfast of Octavia's favorite food of apples and oats. As Carnelian was preparing Octavia and himself for breakfast, he was trying to get Octavia to say Mommy.
"Can you say, Mommy...........MOMMY!" Carnelian was asking Octavia.
After Carnelian started to repeat Mommy over and over. Octavia was getting ready to say it. Octavia took a big breathe and got ready too say something while Carnelian was waiting to hear the word "Mommy."
"Minny!" Octavia said with a blah.
Carnelian started to laugh and brought her into the dining room to eat her food. As they sat at the table, Carnelian started to continue to try to get her say Mommy but she would only say Minny and Marny. Majestic walked in to say while holding the breakfast plates.
"Carnelian, she will get it one day. She has already said three words and grew a full mane in the matter of a month, I don't want her to grow up to quick."
Carnelian laughed and continue to play with Octavia. After Majestic made Octavia's meal, she looked up too Majestic too say.
"Love You!"
"Love you too baby!" Majestic said with a tear and a smile.
Carnelian jumps in and asked Octavia something.
"You know who else loves you?"
"Daddy!" Octavia replied too not knowing really what she was replying too.
Carnelian laughed and said.
"And you better believe it, Daddy's never going to stop loving you!"
Octavia's plate was set down in front of her and she dug into the food. Carnelian noticed that the pink bow in her hair was coming undone and started to tighten it to make sure it stood on. Carnelian grabbed his food and started to eat while Majestic joined in with her food. After they were done eating, Carnelian decided to go out and get something for Octavia. Carnelian and Majestic got Octavia ready and they sat her inside of the carriage and started to head out. They went through the market section in Canterlot in search of a toy store. They saw one named, Fillies for Fun, and started too head inside of the store. Octavia was amazed with all the toy they had in there and started to laugh. She looked around amazed with all the colors of the store and all the other fillies around, but she was more amused with the colors than anything. When they started to walk down a aisle, Octavia saw what she wanted and stood up in the carriage and started to reach her hooves out to it. Carnelian looked at it and it was a toy cello for fillies. A plastic cello with a plasic bow. Carnelian looked at Majestic.
"I think she likes the Cello." Carnelian said
Majestic smiled while Carnelian was reaching for the toy and after he grabbed the toy he gave it too Octavia and rolled the Carriage up too the counter to purchase the toy. Carnelian reached into his bag's pocket to grab a couple of coins and sat them in the clerks hoof. They started to head home so Octavia can enjoy her new toy.
Finally they got home, Octavia held her new cello really tightly while they lift her out of the carriage. Carnelian and Majestic sat down to show Octavia how to play the instrument.
"Okay, Octavia this is called the Cello, you take the bow and rub it across the strings like this." Majestic said while demonstrating how to play.
Octavia did what she was told to do and took the bow and rubbed it across the cello really really really fast but it had a tune already inside of the cello so when you rubbed the bow against the strings it would play that same tune over and over. Octavia just kept rubbing the bow against the strings and Carnelian and Majestic just started to clap there hooves.
"I am going to go start on lunch, honey." Majestic told Carnelian
"No, let me do it, I want to make something special for the two of you." Carnelian said while sitting Majestic back down.
He started to walk toward the kitchen to cook the food. Majestic smiled and rubbed her hooves through Octavia's mane while she continued to play. She smiled and said to herself.
Eight months has passed since the birth of Octavia, a quiet and silent morning. Carnelian woke up too kiss Majestic, but something was wrong. She wasn't moving, Carnelian started to shake her hard and harder to wake her up, but she didn't move. Carnelian quickly bounced up and rolled Majestic over. He started to run down the stairs and yelling for help before busting the front door down. He yelled as loud as he could.
"Help! Help, my wife needs a doctor." Carnelian yelled with force.
The first to respond was Mist and Lighting Hooves from next door, as soon as they heard they ran outside to get more information what was happening. As soon as they started to speak to Carnelian to find out was wrong, he ran upstairs telling Mist and Lighting too follow. He was huffing and puffing with no breathe. Mist Hooves saw the situation and told Lighting to get more help. Mist Hooves was a doctor and attended the Cloudsdale University, so he started to perform operations on Majestic's body. He told Carnelian to grab Octavia and go to his house and let her play with Derpy t'll further notice. Carnelian ran out of the room grabbed Octavia and ran to the Hooves' household and took her into Derpy's room.
"Daddy! Where's Mommy?" Octavia asked.
"Mommy will be with us soon, Mommy is busy." Carnelian replied.
He started to cry and a tear ran down his neck.
"Daddy, why are you sad?" With a very soft voice.
"Daddy is just so proud of you, Octavia." While grabbing her for a hug.
The sounds of the medical carriage rattling against the brick road of Canterlot. The sound of it got louder and louder as it got closer. With a sudden stop of the rattling, Carnelian looked out of the window, while Octavia and Derpy played with each other. He saw Lighting run inside and as soon as she hit the doors, Carnelian ran down stair to tell Octavia the fillies were upstairs. She walked upstairs while he ran out to get on the carriage with his wife. Mist carried Majestic to the carriage and got inside of it with her to continue to keep her alive.
"Will she make, Mist?" Carnelian asked while holding Majestic's hoof.
"Yes, but she is extremely ill and I don't know anything after that, without equipment."Mist replied while pumping on Majestic's chest, as the nurse hooked her up to a machine that pumped her with fluids."
"So there is chance she might die?" Carnelian shouted with question.
"If we do not continue to operate on her or get her to the hospital fast enough she will, but I'm trying my best so you need to keep talking to her and don't let her stop hearing you." Mist replied as the carriage started to move with speed.
"Honey everything is going to be alright, just keep listening to me. Just keep on fighting and thinking about Octavia." Carnelian told into Majestic's ear. She could hardly move, but you could see a tear roll down her cheek out of her eye.
The carriage finally got to the hospital, Mist kicked the doors open and pushed the bed out of the carriage and ran through the hall as Carnelian was jumping out of the carriage. Carnelian walked to the dreadful waiting room that he highly despises but wasn't carrying about at the time. He sat down and waited.
Mist gave the bed too another doctor half way down the hallway and just followed the rest of the way. He was stopped at the door by a nurse but the nurse noticed who he was and she let him go through. He started to order the nurses around and told the doctor what he needed to do with a sudden demand. The nurses ran to get the supplies, and the doctor slapped a warm rag on Majestic's head and another one on her chest and neck. He changed the bag of fluids and started to take over Mist's job when pumping her chest. The nurses ran in with the medical supplies, and Doctor Mist started to operate with the equipment.
After hours had passed, Mist walked out to see Carnelian. Carnelian looked up at Mist while Mist looked down. Carnelian ran up to Mist, and held his head up to his and ask with authority.
"Tell me, what happened."
"I'm sorry Carnelian, she's gone." Mist answered.
A tear ran down Mist's face, while he looked down.
"Wha.....What happened?" Carnelian asked while trying not to wail.
"The terminal illness she had took a turn for the worst when we started to operate, her body was to weak and she moved on." Mist replied.
Carnelian couldn't hold in in anymore, he wailed so hard in that waiting room. Mist looked at Carnelian and told him.
"You can stay with us tonight, we will feed Octavia and you and you can sleep in the guest room."
Carnelian continued to wail and Mist grabbed hugged him and walked him home. Once they got to the Hooves household, they opened the door too see Lighting and Fairy sitting on the couch. Lighting and Fairy jumped up and Carnelian continued to wail. Mist took Lighting and Fairy into the other room to leave Carnelian alone. Shortly after, Carnelian heard the crying in the next room from both of the Mares. Carnelian just walked up the stairs and walked into Derpy's room to grab Octavia. He took Octavia into the next room and sat her on the bed. Before Carnelian could explain Octavia took her pink ribbon off of herself and gave it to Carnelian. Octavia began to speak softly.
"Mommy said this will stop crying because this is her." Octavia said while Carnelian took the ribbon.
He notice that it was the same pink ribbon that Majestic wore as a bow tie when she met him. Later on she let Carnelian wear it around his hoof as a bracelet and he remembered why she did it and he still remembers exactly what she said.
"As long as you have the ribbon, I will always be with, even when you are alone. Just hold this to your heart and no matter where I am I will always be there."
Carnelian took the ribbon and held it against his heart, and took Octavia and hugged her while the ribbon was touching the hearts of both ponies. Carnelian smiled while looking at Octavia.
"Mommy, is in a better place now, she has her beautiful purple mane again and she is dancing with her mother now."
"Can we see Mommy?" Octavia asked.
"I'm afraid not Octavia." Carnelian replied.
He took the ribbon and tied it around Octavia's neck as a bow tie.
"This is how Mommy wore her ribbon." Carnelian told Octavia.
It always seem it rained on a funeral, most said it rains because the guardian angel lost the one that was to be protected. The perfect time, just too make someone cry though. It seems Celestia just wanted make ponies feel more depressed by bringing the rain to Canterlot. The wind blew slightly with a cold breeze. Very weird that this kind of weather only comes on a day of a funeral of an love one. The morning was cold, and the rain continued to pour down on the graveyard. The dirt became mud and the wind blew through the graves making a quiet whistle that made it sound like a song. The people walked with tears but were disguised with the rain running down there face and mane. First came the Hooves, a very special family to Majestic. They seemed they gave everything to Majestic and Octavia, but they only gave what they could. Following them was Fairy, even though the Melody family only known her for a little less than a year, she became a best friend too Majestic. They shared so much with each other that it felt like they were sisters. After that came a bunch of other ponies that were dressed in all black but still upset.
Finally the coffin came, the coffin was a white coffin, lined with gold that sparkled with joy, but that day not even the sight of gold could make a pony smile. Five ponies carried the coffin, four white stallions and Carnelian lead up front. He lead the stallions to the tent in which every other pony was going and sitting to wait. They sat the coffin in front of all the chairs right under the tent, and the four stallions walked in the back and Carnelian sat up front. The preacher walked up to Carnelian and put his hoof, on the right side of Carnelian's head.
"I'm sorry for your lost, I lost my wife a few years back and I understand the pain." The preacher pony told Carnelian.
Carnelian just nodded and the preacher walked back to his stand to do the eulogy. He took the stand with both his hooves and started to speak to the ponies.
"We lost a pony in Canterlot a few days back, not only as a friend or a wife but some pony lost a mother, now she was a good pony, she grew up in a good household, got married, and had a child. She did everything she wanted too do, but every pony has a time. No one can live forever, not you nor I. We will pass one day and she will be waiting for us. I know it is hard to lose a friend, a wife, and a mother but she is in a better place now. Majestic enjoy dancing, and always danced but didn't do much dancing after having a child, and especially with her illness she encountered a while back, but now she is in heaven with her mother and dancing away to the most beautiful music that an Alicorn could play."
People sat and continued to listen to the preacher's eulogy, while Carnelian watched the coffin. The preacher picked up a rose and told the ponies.
"A rose can mean many things, but in this case it will represent the love of everyone that had a connection too her. The ponies will represent the stem, but the rose petals will represent the love that Carnelian had with her." The preacher pony told the ponies while walking to Carnelian to give him the rose.
Carnelian held the rose while the preacher continued to speak.
"Carnelian was the husband of Majestic, and he will be the one to hold the pony's love. He will choose to keep or give it to Majestic."
The people waited while Carnelian stood up and walked to the coffin. Carnelian stood at the coffin staring down at it while the thunder started too rumble in the distance.
"Majestic, I've always loved you and I wanted to give everything I could to you. You didn't deserve any of this, you were the sweetest pony I've ever known but I know your here with me right now. I know what you want me too do and I promise Octavia will grow up healthy and I will make sure I give her more love than what we could before. She won't go hungry, uneducated, or sick if I have anything to say about it. I will always miss you Majestic, I remember the day I met you, you were dancing with your friends at the pub. You just danced your little heart out, and I remember walking up and asking if I could join with you and we danced all night even when no one was there and I knew you were the pony for me. I love you Majestic and I miss you so much." Carnelian finished saying before tearing up.
He laid the rose on her coffin and walked away from the tent in tears. Mist Hooves got up and held him while they walked to the carriage. The ponies started to say there final goodbyes and after every pony said what they needed too, they lowered the coffin into the grave and covered it with the dirt. The gravestone stood tall, on it was Majestic Melody and below it was her cutie mark which was three quarter notes on a staff. The dirt was piled on top of the coffin and the rest of the day was continued.
Carnelian got home and asked if Octavia could spend the night with Mist. Mist agreed while Carnelian walked into his house and paid the filly sitter and told her she was dismissed. He headed up stairs to Octavia's room and grabbed Octavia. He looked at Octavia and smiled. He hugged her and went back down stairs, out the door, and gave her too Mist for the night. Mist looked at Carnelian before he started to walk away.
"If there is anything you need at anytime we are right next door, you have a key so if you want to see Octavia just come on in and lock the door behind you."
Carnelian heard and waved his hoof at Mist and Mist continued too his house. Carnelian closed the door behind him and walked too his room, taking off the suit he wore the funeral. He sat on the bed, and stared outside the window too see the raindrops fall against his window for a few minutes and stood up and started to walk around the house like he was looking for Majestic but he knew she wasn't there. He just continue to roam his house. He heard in his head.
"Carnelian dinner is ready!" but he knew no one was there.
He started to walk to the kitchen and just stood there at the door and stared at all the things Majestic left behind. He went to the fridge and grabbed something to drink and continued to the couch. He sat on the couch and just looked around at all the pictures of Majestic and her family. Carnelian never had a family, he grew up in a shelter in Manehattan after he was carried away from his drunk family. The only pictures of Carnelian were the ones he made with either Majestic or Octavia.
Carnelian stood up and started too walk upstairs into Octavia's room. Carnelian looked around and couldn't help too think that Octavia was going to grow up without her Mother. He sat down and cried himself to sleep on Octavia's floor.
It's been almost two months since the passing of Majestic and there isn't a night that Carnelian doesn't think about her, but his mind is more on Octavia than any pony right now. Octavia's birthday is coming up fast, and she is growing very fast, she now can speak and follow directions. She learned so much but she learned more from her own mother. Octavia still remembers her and still remembers what she told her about the pink ribbon that was given to her. She took it by heart and would start her day off first by getting Carnelian to tie it in her hair.
Carnelian usually just woke up and tried his best to take care of Octavia before heading to work. Most of the time he would ask if the Hooves could care for her while he is at work. After everything that happened Carnelian tries to hold his head.
One morning Carnelian awoke in his bed and looked around, just to notice he was still very lonely in his room. He stood out of bed and went to Octavia's room. Octavia was still very silent in her crib but still didn't bother her until he was ready for work that day. He went back into his room and grabbed his uniform and putted it on and went down stairs to fix Octavia's breakfast to go. After her meal was fixed he went upstairs and grabbed the pink ribbon and tied it on her mane. He took her out of the crib and sat her down to walk with him to the Hooves' house. They went out the front door and locked it behind them. Carnelian walked with Octavia right next door and knocked on the door. Lighting opens the door and welcomes Carnelian in the household.
"Carnelian come on in." Lighting asked Carnelian
"Sorry, I need to get to work." Carnelian answered.
Carnelian said good bye to everyone after giving a kiss to Octavia and Octavia ran inside to tackle Derpy. Lighting waved goodbye and continued in the house closing the door behind her. Octavia ran upstairs to play with Derpy and Vinyl and it has become a daily thing now. It's always been Derpy, Vinyl, and Octavia playing with each other no matter where they were at, even when times seem bad, they were always having fun. As Octavia ran through the door and tackled Derpy with a hug, and Vinyl jumped on top of them to join the fun. As they got up and continued to play.
"What you want to do now?" Vinyl said to the other two.
Both fillies look at each other and shrugged. Vinyl looked at both of them while she thought.
"How about we play Royal Guard Attack again?" Vinyl ask.
"I call being the leader!" Derpy yelled.
They went into the toy box and grabbed there dress up armor and putted it on. Derpy started to command Vinyl and Octavia around.
"The big bullies are over there, attack!" Derpy yelled.
Octavia and Vinyl ran to that side of the room and attacked the imaginative warriors. Derpy would order them around every where. They ran around the room, down the stairs, and out in the backyard. As they ran back inside from playing, they were tired, Lighting looked at them while she was cleaning her clothes. She smiled and started to play with them.
"I'm the big bully, Discord, I come to cause chaos to all!" Lighting said while flying toward them slowly.
The fillies screamed with excitement and started to attack Lighting. After they got done attacking, Lighting started to gently fall to the ground.
"Oh no, I have been defeated!" Lighting said when she was on the ground and she just played dead.
The fillies yelled with victory and looked the other way, then Lighting got up slowly and grabbed all three fillies and hugged all of them.
"I don't think you all ate your breakfast yet." Lighting told them.
"Were not hungry though Mrs. Hooves!" Vinyl said.
"I'm hungry." Octavia told Vinyl.
"Well Carnelian and Fairy made you both your breakfast and I made breakfast for Derpy, now we don't want it to got waste do we." Lighting told the fillies.
"Nope!" Octavia replied.
She smiled and took all of them to the dinner table, she went and grabbed the breakfasts and gave them all there food. They started to dig in to there paper bags besides derpy she just ate of a plate. After Octavia and Vinyl grabbed there food, Derpy started to lean over trying to grab the bags. Vinyl took her bag and slid it over to her. Derpy took the bag and put in on her head. Vinyl and Octavia started to laugh historically at the moment. Lighting came and grabbed the bag of her head and walked over to the other bag just too make sure she didn't get the other. Derpy just looked at Lighting and smiled.
After they got done eating they continue to run around the house playing multiple games that most people Lighting's age don't remember, but as long as they were harmless they were perfectly okay with her. Lighting continue to figure what she wanted too do with the fillies today, so she can spend time with all of them because she treated Vinyl and Octavia with the same amount of love as she treated Derpy. Just because she saw all three of them grow up and spent most of her time with each of them everyday. She grew attached too Octavia and Vinyl. She knew Octavia didn't have a mother any more but she wanted to make sure she had a mother figure in her life.
Fairy couldn't take care of Vinyl during the day because she lived alone and worked at the spa to pay for food and bills, and Carnelian as well. They are both in the same problem but they wanted to take care of there fillies even if they didn't know it.
The night was cold and the instrumental of the cello felt the air while Carnelian returned home from picking up Octavia at the Hooves home. Once he opened the door, Octavia ran inside of the house trying to avoid the cold that was lingering outside. She shivered while trying to find a blanket to cover herself up with. Carnelian closed the door behind them and walked to the kitchen to fix a meal for Octavia. Octavia took a blanket and covered her small filly body with it trying to warm up. The wind blew and gently opened the window that was behind Octavia, she turned around to see what was going on and heard the sounds of the cello that she heard when she was coming inside of the house. Octavia turned around with the blanket and just stared at the window and started to listen closely to the sounds of the cello being followed by an orchestra of violins, violas, percussion, and a piano.
Carnelian walked in holding the meal he prepared for Octavia and asked if she would like to skip eating at the table tonight and just eat in the living room. Octavia, just nodded her head and continued on with dinner.
"Did you enjoy your day with Vinyl and Derpy today Octavia?" Carnelian asked.
"It was great we went to the zoo!" Octavia told Carnelian.
"Really, and what all animals did you see while you were there." Carnelian asked.
"I don't remember there names." Octavia stated.
Carnelian laughed and started to eat his dinner with Octavia. Once both of them got done eating, Carnelian grabbed the plates and took them into the kitchen. Before he could get back to the kitchen he heard a knock at the door.
"KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!"
"Octavia can you answer the door for me, sweetheart?" Carnelian asked Octavia.
"Yes Daddy!" Octavia said while trotting to the door.
Octavia answered the door and there stood Fairy and Vinyl. Octavia smiled and got out of the way so both of them could walk in from the cold.
"Hi, Vinyl!" Octavia yelled while waving at Vinyl.
"Hey, Tavi." Vinyl responded.
"You two go and play upstairs in Octavia's room." Fairy told the fillies.
"Yes Ma'am!" They both said at the same time and then running upstairs.
Carnelian walked into the room to noticed Fairy in the room.
"What are you doing here?" Carnelian asked.
"I came here because I needed to tell you something very important." Fairy stated.
"Would you like to sit down and talk about it?" Carnelian asked Fairy.
Fairy nodded her head and sat down on the couch while Carnelian walked over and sat next to her.
"Carnelian, since were good friends now I think it's only right that you know about this." Fairy told Carnelian.
Carnelian nodded his head and waited to hear what she had to say as Fairy continued.
"I...I... just wanted to let you know that I really like you."
"I really like you too but I don't get what you mean." Carnelian responded.
Fairy started to blush and looked at Carnelian. Carnelian realized what she meant and felt uneasy about the sudden information.
"Are you okay?" Fairy asked.
"Yeah, I am find. So when did you start liking me like that?" Carnelian asked.
"I've liked you like that since I met you in the hospital, I just felt it wasn't right to say it because you were married at the time."
The conversation continued on while the window was opened and the music continued to play a gentle melody. After the conversation was going on for about an hour. Fairy had to say her final thoughts.
"I've been in love with you for about two year." Fairy told Carnelian.
"I know but what if we did start a relationship. What do you think will happen?" Carnelian asked.
"I don't know, that's why I want to give it a shot. Will you give me one chance?" Fairy asked.
"Okay, I will give you one chance. We will go on a date next week and that is when I will make up my mind if we should date or not." Carnelian told Fairy.
"Thank you!" Fairy told Carnelian.
At this moment the fillies are spying on the two, wandering what is going on between them two. Vinyl starts to try to explain.
"I think my Mommy wants babies with your Daddy!"
"What? No, that isn't true." Octavia stated.
"I think they want to get married!" Octavia continued.
Octavia was still spying on them on the stair way and accidentally trips and rolls down the stairs unharmed. Vinyl looks at Octavia and decides to do the same thing because it looked fun. Carnelian and Fairy suddenly look around to see the fillies.
"Good timing!" Fairy stated.
Fairy gets up and starts to walk over to Vinyl so they can leave. Once she picks up Vinyl she says her final goodbyes and walks outside. Octavia waved goodbye while closing the door behind them. Octavia looks at Carnelian while he smiles and picks up Octavia and takes her to her room to explain what is happening between Fairy and him. Once he gets up to the room, he lies her down in her bed and sits on her bed and starts to explain what is happening. Octavia was very confused on the dating part of the story because she didn't even realize what dating was.
"What is dating, Daddy?" Octavia asked.
"It's kind of what ponies do before they get married to see if they like each other or not." Carnelian told Octavia.
"But don't you like Mrs. Fairy, she is very nice." Octavia asked Carnelian.
"Oh, it's a different kind of like dear." Carnelian responded.
"There is only one type of like Daddy." Octavia told Carnelian.
"I know, but some ponies like each other a little more than others." Carnelian explained.
"You like me the most though right?" Octavia asked.
Carnelian smiles and takes the pink bow out of her mane.
"Yes and I love you more than anything too." Carnelian explained.
"Yay!" Octavia yelled.
Carnelian kisses Octavia goodnight, tucked her in, and walked out of her room.
