> On the Origins of Equestria > by Bearycool > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Front Matter and Prologue > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Front Matter: As in many tales which were read to us, And in many songs also sung to us, the geneses of our lives have been told and all the origins of old and new, yet never in a poetic stance or thought of mind that would bring about its birth... So it has been made, after much thought,  that  in an anecdote our origins be told In poem, in prose, and in summary That tell of the foundation of the earth. Now, of this work given to me long ago  I have found it good to say these motives within one structure; a three-in-one of sorts. In the beginning were the Three and Four Three connected, yet Four in the world. Three and Four, the genesis of the earth. Before the Country was found in its glory The Three stayed solely in the lands of folly Where Hatred’s melancholy did abound And his Wrath his co-heir to his frozen throne; Till one day, that Country was found by Six; Six that lead, and lead to glory. Then in time Chaos came to take the Light From the Land that was holy in Their site He took the light and lit the land with lighted death To make it yield only despair and mourning. Yet all in folly was this plot of Chaos For the Fourth came, and in Harmony struck The Chaos to a stone prison forever; Yet not forever, but only a time That was made in times of old so that a new Six may come again in tenebrous times.         Afterwards, the Two of Four came together to form communion with the Three Tribes of old. They came to rule over the land of light It to be named Equestria, the land of light In majesty they ruled over the Three To bring night and day to the new world. Yet even in their power, corruption came To claim One of  the Two of the Four Who was edified by the night’s power Yet broken down by hatred of the Three. Her name of Beautiful Moon dubbed to her To  be changed to Moon of Nightmare Eternal And her light frame to be of different stature; Then her Sister would throw her away to that night home In the sky where she would stay for a time. Many happenings would come to the Land To shape the future of the New Six Mares Whose power and authority would yet come To brighten the day in new glory dawn. Thus is the purpose of this work’s birth To bring understanding to the one who seeks it all. And not to burden you by rhyme or meter But only by story of Heroic Triumph. In medias res shall this time occur So understanding of old may be given And in given understanding, knowledge. So of Future Six we shall see first of all: In their glory, triumph, despair, trials, Torment, love, and most of all harmony. -Gallant Hatter   On This Work: I  have deemed well that this piece should be presented within my own words and thoughts, and have concluded to this end that I do not care in anyway what others think of my thoughts; for, after all, it is but a minor nuisance what others think verses the truth.  This isn’t meant to be cold hearted in any such ways; rather, an anecdote of myself to you, the reader, and not of what the consensus of the masses are of such matters like this.  Now I am but a small colt who has seen the mighty works of the mares whom have given us freedom from the torments of old, and wish to write down with my hooves their works in a Heroic Stance; id est, an epic. I write this piece in my little blue home in Ponyville to give you, the reader, an understanding of the origins of our pasts and how they lead the heroes of today.  To show this, I place this piece in loose heroic verse, liberated with no rhyme-- for rhyming is but a scheme made by fools who cannot bring about their thoughts in orderly conduct-- and many allusions of old works scattered throughout Equestria. It has been noted by my friend, Gallant, that this piece shall be placed in medias res, and continue onwards from there. Stanzas are divided solely on events, and not of stylistic terms. Parts of this piece shall be of my own design, to give understanding to what I’ve read in my studies. May Celestia find it good to read this work and to bless it with her eyes, and may it also  be good that the mares grace this work with their own eyes and please this humble writer. -Bard Clop On The Origins of Equestria Prologue: On Heroes Of my times in the land of light and hope I have trod on paths of glory gold And witnessed horrors of the Past unfold. I have seen heroes come and heroes go, Like that of swirls the bearded et alii, And watched their legacy mark the land With their powerful hooves forevermore. But none compare to the Six Chosen Mares Of which Time and Light molded together In co-existences and harmony. Out of the three Tribes of old, came the Six And by the gift of the Fourth, came the Six And by other happenings also, came the Six; harmoniis, In medias res. This was how the Six were formed through the Light And through Time also, which is the beginning. It is of my duty as scribe and bard To write the prologue of the journey Coming roundabout to the middle of it all Then turn around to the beginning of it all Until our journey reaches its final end.                     Of Pony’s first disobedience to the Night and of the love for one another Comes about the prelude of our earth; Where our edification for light and love and  where destiny and time  are conjoined; intermingling, and of one body and mind. Our love for harmony comes from here too Yet in contradiction for no night and the break down of the other side of harmony and tranquil peace in the world. Sing Heavenly Light, that on the secret mount On high, or of the Valley, shall you be heard And seen by everypony within the land and your message of harmony heard throughout.                     Now, these are the prologues of the epic Which are but tales within themselves And I deem it well to sing their song Within parts and thoughts of their own theme and will And not for no reason or random consequence; Rather, so that the Six may be understood And their place in the history of light. But know well, that I will not tell of the theme of these tales until later in time when they are needed within the theme and of my will. Let it be known, that these events occurred And are not of fiction or of fabled lies,  But rather the truth from the regal queens Of night and day; the history of the land. Let their tale be not measured in meter Or of rhyme; rather, let this be measured By its history, truth, and harmony Of all the themes and events of old.                     Let this prelude serve as a base to you On the matter of heroes’ triumphs  And of history and events combined So it may be included within the canon Of the earth, and of the canon of heroes Whose identities are revered and noted By the masses of all the ponies of the earth. Authors note: special thanks to: MintyRest RavensDagger and SincerelyFake Thank you all for editing this piece. Also, thank you nitezsche for making me become a better poet. > Book 1: On Present Troubles Part 1 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Book 1: On Present Troubles Part 1: The Letter Of present troubles, they were first divided For they knew naught of themselves or each other Or of their destiny which was foretold Long ago in the times of the Ancients. Yet in prophecy were they to be united And the Regal Queen of day knew this to Be so, and thus took one under her wing. Of this First Mare lies the beginning And also heralds so the ending For one produces the two, two produces The three, the three creates the four and five And in the fifth the sixth shall be found.                     Now the First should be described by her color Of velvet and purple and twilight flank Where in the moonlight it seemed to sparkle And of those features her name was Twilight Sparkle.                     The Second should be described by her beauty Eyes like that of sapphire in glory light Flank as white and as rare as a diamond And of those features, her name was Rarity.                     The Third should be described by her softness Her flank is a light cream color Her voice as soft as velvet Her person like that of a butterfly And in it, she was named Fluttershy.                     The Fourth should be described by strength Her duty is to farm the apples of the land And to till the earth with all her might. To this end, she was named Applejack.                     The Fifth should be described by her speed In her tracks, she creates lighting  and awe in a quick snap she creates the arc of a rainbow her flank is baby blue, like that of the sky. of her speed and light, she was named Rainbow Dash.         The Sixth should be described by her feelings pink and sugary is the look of her flank hyper is her attitude towards the Darkness insane are the depths of her eyes and person of these features, she was named Pinkie Pie.         Their journey begins at the conjoining paths on the road of Glory Gold; which is life. They saw one another, not knowing their paths were made to be one road long ago. On that road, they were to meet a fate that would bring about their new destiny; which is the Elements of Harmony taking up residence on their souls and combating the Ancients of old. To do such a task, they were commissioned without knowledge to do six different task. One task to show the truth of truth; honesty One task to show the heart of light: kindess One task to show hope of the earth; laughter One task to show the gift; geneorsity One task to show the boundless sky; loyalty In all of this to show the light of lights which is the flame of friendship and love.         On all of this, the regal queen of day knew this and of this, she prophesied in secrecy. With secret knowledge and words, she said:         “The times are soon at hand the One born from the Other has come to my household and presented to me the glimmer of hope that darkness cannot swallow! Before her, there was someone like her; indeed, it could be summarized they are same! Look, she has come again to rid night once more from this land of light in a new form! Out of her shall five more come again which are in reverie to the past five of the six old mares, who found this land by their own blood, sweat, and tears! Before the foundation was placed, they were called; and I was called also, to bring them together on the path which is called Glory Gold. This is the prophecy; on the millennial mark of this world, my blood shall come again and try to bring about the end like before! Yet Harmony shall bring her down and in turn, cleanse her of her past sins. Oh how I have waited  for this moment to come, so that  I may know my sister for the rest of eternity and on.”         After the prophecy, the queen saw that a letter pop out of thin air and knew that the letter was from Twilight’s scribe and when she opened it and read, she said:         “Ah, it is sooner than I expected! the day that has been predicted is about to show itself to the world of Light and the prophesied letter of the First has herald on this regard! I must make haste, and bring the Six together so that Harmony may be retained!” Because of this, she took a quill and with her magic wrote on blank parchment which would be the words of a letter  to Twilight in order to begin her journey. Then, in heavenly breath, she blew the letter it into the nether on its journey to Twilight.         “It is finished!” And of this, the story of all begins! > Book 1: On Present Troubles Part 2 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now it was bright in the Land of Light, For the Land knew the Six were to come And commune together with one another And herald so the new dawn of light. Now they came together when the message Was received by the mare called Twilight, Who was ordered by the queen to Go out to Ponyville, that village which Plays the key role of many things to come. Yet she did not go willingly in stride; In her own words of this dissent, she said: “Why me? Oh Celestia, why me? Why must I go away from my studies And meet others that I know nothing of? What is the meaning of this misadventure which will bring nothing but woe to me....” She of velvet flank fell into dispair As she rode on a chariot to ponyville, that place where her fate would lie in wait. With her was her scribe, a small baby dragon Who was deemed by Twilight as spike. As they rode the chariot, spike said to her: “Fear not, Twilight! the Princess has her reasons I am sure of this, oh yes I am sure! She just wishes you to make some friends And also prepare the festival to come!” And it was so, that she would meet these “friends” the friends who were recalled to life once more. When Twilight came to the village, she found herself Bewildered by its many sights and sounds. Just then, one of the Six came to her and smiled broadly in a rather crazy look of awe and many other such things. This first mare’s flank was that of pink galore So it can be surmised that it was Pink Pie. Twilight tried to speak to her and say hi but in a quick snap she gasped and trotted off in a very fast pace of pink lighting. This was twilight’s first encounter with the Five. Next, she went out to the farms on the borders for she was told to check the banquet which was to be made for the festival to come. On that farm, she met the second of the six. Her flank was a golden tint and her name was Applejack, who was one of the six. She came to Twilight and said to her: “Why howdy, my friend; oh yes my friend! Why dont’cha come right along for brunch and meet all the others in this here town!” Twilight tired to refuse this offer with respect but failed to do so, and because of this she accepted the invitation with a sigh. This was Twilight’s second encounter with the five. After this minor event, Twilight went out to check the clouds, which were to be cleared out for that festival which was to come. She was to seek out a mare called Rainbow Dash who was to clear the clouds with her power wings. Then out of nowhere she came crashing down on Twilight and took her with great surprise. They fell into a pile of mud where Rainbow Dash laughed up a storm on Twilight. When she realized what she caused, she tried to fix it in some way that would help her. In continue torrents of laughter, she said: “Man, I am truly sorry what I just did there; here, let me help you clean yourself!” And so she did by means of fluff of clouds to wash the purple mare right up and then caused a torrent to dry her off. This was Twilight’s third encounter with the five. Twilight was treated by the fourth, who was named Rarity, to dress up galore for the fourth was a one for fashion and could not help herself when she saw Twilight. This was Twilights fourth encounter with the five. On the fifth encounter, not much can be stated, for the fifth was named Fluttershy and when she saw Twilight, she said nary a word to her, for she was shy. After these many things, the hour of the Festival had finally arrived. Many ponies flocked towards the middle of town where the regal queen of day would be to bring about the day from the night. Twilight was there with the five to witness the opening of the day, yet Twilight’s mind was preoccupied with moon for she knew the mare in the moon would return and wreak havoc upon the land once again. Then, just as the queen began her magic, the prophecy of a thousand years occured in but a blink of an eye and heartbeat. It was nightmare moon, standing before the assembly with radiant twinkles of night. … Now the origins of this moment should be given its own though and accord, so let us go to the beginning of the matter which happened a thousand years prior.
