The kind and beautiful mare let out a sigh as she looked out the window and saw the flashing lightning and heard the rolling thunder. This was one of the worst storms that Ponyville has had in quite some time. Fluttershy could only hope that Lightning Twister was asleep during this storm. Her son has never been in this bad of a storm since she adopted him. Deciding to turn in for the night, Fluttershy went upstairs to go to her bedroom. When she arrived at top of the stairs, she stopped and decided to go make sure her son was asleep. She quietly went down the hallway, but when she arrived at he sons room she could hear quiet crying on the other side of the door. Fluttershy opened the door and looked inside only to see her son whimpering under the covers and tears rolling down his face. "Lightning, sweetheart, are you okay?" she asked with concern as she slowly approached her crying child. Lightning shook his head in response as Fluttershy sat on the edge of the bed. She gently pulled lightning from under the covers and into her loving embrace. She felt his body trembling in fear of the storm outside as he looked into her eyes. Fluttershy was somewhat shocked when she saw his face. His cheeks were stained with tears and his eyes were red from crying. Fluttershy knew Lightning had a strong fear of Thunderstorms thanks to his abusive father, but she's never seen him this afraid or upset. Lightning cried into his his mothers soft warm fur as the storm raged on outside. "I-I'm scared, M-Momma!" Lightning sobbed as his body shook. Fluttershy closed her eyes and held Lightning closer to her "Oh, Lightning..." she softly whispered "It's okay, I'm here" Lightning continued to tremble and quietly cry as a flash of lightning filled the room making the little colt yelp in fear. Fluttershy set him on her lap and pulled him back into her embrace as the little colt whimpered. He had never been in a storm like this before in his life and it only made him more scared that he already was. Lightning continued to tremble and whimper as a roll of thunder boomed outside scaring both him and Fluttershy. Fluttershy kept a gentle but tight grip on Lightning as she rubbed his side with her hoof and whispered a soft hushing sound in his ear. However Lightning wasn't calming down, he just buried his head in his mothers neck and cried. "W-why am I s-so scared of Thunderstorms, M-Momma? I d-don't like being s-scared." Lightning cried as he softly pounded Fluttershy's chest Fluttershy let out a sad sigh, she hated seeing her son like this. She knew it would take a long time for Lightning to get over his fear of storms thanks to his father. Anytime she ever thought about that stallion she became angry. However her anger cooled when she looked down at her at her scared, crying, son. She began gently rocking him gently to try and calm him down. "Shh...No more tears, sweetheart, Momma's hear, Momma's got you." She cooed into her sons ear softly and sweetly. Lightning's crying continued as the two sat in silence, Fluttershy continued to try and calm Lightning down but was not getting anywhere. She continued to hush and rock Lightning as the wind outside played it's haunting melody. One of the tree branches outside Lightning's window blew in the wind and began tapping on the window making the colt yelp in fright. "W-What's the noise!?" He asked scared to death. He did not want to move an inch away from his mother. Fluttershy knew what it was and continued rocking Lightning. "Shh....It's alright, Lightning, It's just the wind outside blowing on the trees, that's all." she said sweetly. Lightning let out a shaky sigh of relief as another rumble of thunder exploded shaking the whole cottage and another flash of Lightning lit the sky in a bright flash. Lightning buried his head in his mothers neck and continued to cry but he was also saying something to Fluttershy. "Please don't go, M-Momma, I d-don't want to be alone." He said with tears flowing down his face. Fluttershy softly smiled as her son and broushed away his loose strands of hair before nuzzling his cheek. "I stay with you all night if you want, sweetheart." she softly cooed as she hugged Lightning. The rain continued to pound on the cottage as Lightning continued to shake in fear. Fluttershy gently licked away his tears and kissed him on the forehead. Then for the first time all night a weak smile formed on Lightning's face but it dissapeared as quickly as it came when a burst of Thunder erupted outside making him whimper and hold his mother as tight as he could. Fluttershy nuzzled Lightning's forehead with her muzzle before laying his head against her chest where he listened to her gentle heartbeat. Another rumble of thunder and another flash of Lightning scared the little colt as Fluttershy held him close. "Shh...everything's going to be alright, sweetheart, Just listen to my voice, I'm here, my sweet little one...Shh" she softly whispered in her sons ear as he softly cried and whimpered in fear. Fluttershy gave him another gentle kiss on his forehead and continued to softly hush him as she rubbed his side. She then began to sing the lullaby she first sang to him when she first became his mother. Lightning listened to his mothers beautiful voice as it drowned out the raging storm outside. His crying began to cease and his trembling began to calm. He looked at his mother who gave him the most gentle and most loving of smiles. Sleep began to overcome him but he was somewhat afraid that Fluttershy would leave him. Fluttershy could see the small hint of fear in his eyes and shook her head. "It's alright, sweetheart, I won't leave you alone, just close your little eyes, and I promise when you wake up tomorrow I will still be here." she softly cooed as Lightning softly smiled. "I love you, Momma." Lightning said softly as his eyes closed. Fluttershy gently kissed Lightning's forehead and softly whispered in his ear, "I love you too, my sweet little angel." Lightning eventually fell asleep in his mothers forelegs as Fluttershy watched his chest slowly rise and fall. As promised Fluttershy tucked her self into the bed and kept Lightning held close. She just laid their and gently stroked her sleeping child's side as the storm raged on and eventually stopped and Princess Luna's beautiful night shined across the land.
