> The Ballad Of Lyra & Bon Bon > by Kumare Tanamaru > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > From Canterlot To Ponyville (Part One) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh, here comes Twilight! Celestia's personal student! I should wave at her to get her attention! Lyra thought as she smiled. Lyra waved to Twilight, but was shut down upon seeing her run right past without even a simple 'hello.' Lyra sighed, and turned to her friend North Star, who was standing next to her. "You know Star, It's really hard to make friends like you here in Canterlot. They're usually stuck up, or just plain weird." "It's alright Lyra... I mean, that is Twilight Sparkle, and she is the Princesses personal student. She probably has some important magic to work on." "I know, I know..." Lyra huffed. "But once in a while can't she stop and say hi? I never get to speak to her, and I really do have an interest in magic... I may not be the greatest, but I could learn!" she said to the ground beneath her. "Lyra, you shouldn't beat yourself up about this... It's not your fault... Maybe your destiny isn't here. Maybe it's somewhere else." "Oh yeah?" Lyra snorted. "Like where?" North Star looked around in thought for a while before coming to a conclusion. "Aha! How about Ponyville? It's nice and quaint, not too loud, and most importantly it has a lot of ponies waiting to meet new ponies all the time!" Lyra stared at the ground for a while. "Y-you really think so?" Lyra said shyly. "Of course! We can go get tickets for you now if you want." "Wait, you're not coming with me?" Lyra gasped. "No, my destiny is here, but I don't want to see my good friend upset about not having a lot of friends." she said with a slight sad smile. "But you're my best friend! I can't just leave you!" "I'll be fine Lyra I-" "I can't do that. You mean too much to me for me to just leave!" "Lyra, don't take this the wrong way, but I want you to go. Seeing you happy would mean the world to me. You are my best friend, and I will miss you terribly, but I want what's good for you. I'll write you all the time about my adventures here in Canterlot. How does that sound?" Lyra's eyes filled with tears. She moved herself forward and hugged her friend tightly. It was the beginning of a new life, and the end of an old one. ***** "Oh look Bon Bon there's a new pony coming! And she's on a chariot!" Bon Bon's ears perked up and she looked at the carriage coming. "You're right Carrot Top... That's weird... I guess she must be here for the Summer Sun Celebration. Probably a pretty important pony." she said as she watched the purple mare descend from her carriage. "That never happens here..." "Who cares? I want to meet her!" Carrot Top said sprinting away. "You go ahead... I've got things I have to do..." Bon Bon said sighing. Carrot Top is a good friend and all, but she's always running off to find somepony new to start growing for... I get lonely sometimes... I wish I had a friend that would pay attention to me more than once every three days... Bon Bon walked back to her house at the edge of the town. It was a big house: suitable for at least three ponies. It was large, blue and gold, and filled to the brim with emptiness. "I think my parents gave me this big house for a reason. Hmph." she snorted angrily while lying down on her bed. "'Go and find yourself a nice coltfriend dearie~!' Yes, because that's so easy mother. Honestly, how many colts would want to be with a candy maker? None, that's how many! Too 'sticky' for their tastes... I just wish I didn't have to be so alone..." she said rolling over onto her back. Her sulking was interrupted by a loud whistle blowing off in the distance. She had almost forgotten: she lived right next to the train station. "Perfect... I'll be hearing that for the next couple of hours. More ponies? You think overpopulation would be a problem by now... but nope. Too much space in this dump." "Hey Bon Bon~! Bon Bon~!" a pony called from outside her door. 'What do you want Frosty?" She said unmoving. "Pinkie Pie is throwing a surprise party for the new mare in town in a couple of hours, wanna go?" "Frosty, shouldn't you be helping your weather team?" "We got the day off! Well... everypony except Rainbow Dash... But she can clear clouds in ten seconds flat!" "Fine, whatever... Is... Carrot Top going?" "Umm... I don't think so... but she's going to the Summer Sun Celebration!" Bon Bon thought for a second before replying. "Okay, tell her she's taking me, and that I want to talk to her. "Can do good buddy! See ya at the party!" Bon Bon got up from her bed and paced around the room. "Perhaps there will be new ponies to meet at this party... I sure hope I'm right... I should get ready." she said trotting over to her dresser. "There could be 'nice colts' there for me to meet..." ***** "I'm going to miss you Lyra..." North Star said hugging the seafoam pony. "I'll miss you too, Star. Write me... Don't forget." "I won't... Your too important to me to forget." Lyra and North Star said their last goodbyes as Lyra boarded her train with her belongings. Don't worry Lyra, Lyra thought to herself. You'll be fine... You'll see her again. You are best friends after all... Aren't you? Lyra sat back in her chair and looked around at all the blank pony faces. There were stallions with inventions, mares with jewels and gold, there were fillies and colts playing on the floor, but she had never felt so alone in a place so crowded. She had never been alone without North Star. Be brave Lyra... You're about to start a new life. This time it won't be the same. This time, you're going to make something of yourself.
