An evil has invaded Equestria, and only four ponies can stop it!
When a dark power invades Equestria and the Elements of Harmony aren't enough, it is discovered that four ponies met along the way, just in time, must be united to stop it, using four of the Elements. And with one of them involved in love with another, can a sacrifice be made to save Equestria?
Twilight Sparkle, the princess everypony now knew, was reading a book in Ponyville's Library. "Hey Spike, could you take a letter?" She said. Spike nodded and grabbed a paper and pen from nowhere, as usual. "Dear Princess Luna-". She began, before Spike interrupted, "Um...Princess Luna? Isn't she, like, I dunno, maybe..."
"Probably not." Twilight replied. "Dear Princess Luna, I have discovered an ancient power from when you were Nightmare Moon. A book I had read had noted that in your current castle, your old one, and Cadence's castle, each have a dark key in them. If said keys are brought together, it would separate you and her...But at the price of your heavy injury and plenty of chaos. Discord would enjoy it, but nopony else. If you find a key, please avoid letting it out of HEAVY protection. Your fellow princess-". Twilight stuttered for a moment, not used to calling herself a princess. "Twilight Sparkle." Spike immediately sent the letter.
"So Twilight, there's one in the old castle right? Should we maybe find it?"
"No. It's completely useless without the others." She continued to read her book.
Elsewhere, Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo were in the Everfree Forest ziplining...And failed again. But nearby, there was an explosion . "That sounded like it came from the princesses' old castle!" Scootaloo said, running towards it. The others followed quickly.
In Cloudsdale, Rainbow Dash was talking with another pony who looked like her. It was her sister, Rainbow Strike, a rainbow mane and rainbow tail pony, with the same light blue coloring. Her cutie mark was a rainbow lighting bolt shooting up from a flat rock. "So, you really think you can teach me how to do a Sonic Rainboom like you, big sis?" Rainbow Strike was about 2 or 3 years younger than her sister, but still an amazing flyer. "Of course I can, Rainbow Strike! You'll be able to do it in the Best Young Flyer Competition tomorrow with how fast I'll teach you!"
"Yay!" The two flew over to some clouds and shaped them into a practice area. Rainbow Dash began, "Now, the first step is speed, but technique is a big part too. Remember that the straighter up or down your angle is, the harder it is to pull off, too..." And so the teaching began.
Back at the old castle, about five minutes before, Derpy Hooves flew in from above. "Oh boy, I sure hope it's really here." She said. She had been sent to find an ancient scroll of hidden secrets and read it. Sent by Princess Luna. She walked around carefully, before finding a hidden room somepony left open all those years ago. The best part was that it took her about ten seconds, since it was right by the entrance...Near it, anyway. Inside was a scroll...Derpy ran over, almost taking off in excitement, we wings flapping at a controlled speed. "I found it, hooray! Now to see why Princess Luna wanted me to read it." Within minutes, she was engulfed in a flash of light, and there was a small but loud explosion.
When the CMC arrived at the castle, they were surprised to find a secret room open near the entrance. A small hole was inside, and a string to hold a scroll together...With Princess Luna's and Derpy's cutie marks on it...How odd. Sweetie Belle immediately asked, "Any idea who was here?"
"Either Princess Luna or Rainbow Dash's friend Derpy Hooves by the looks of it." Replied Scootaloo. Just then, a light flashed, and Princess Luna carried down a passed out silver Pegasus...No, she was carrying an Alicorn. "I knew you three would be here. Could you do me a favor as take this pony back to the library back in Ponyville and leave her with Twilght? I'm sure she'll know what to do from there." Luna asked, careful not to startle them with something that sounded like crazy talk. They nodded and smiled that a princess wanted their help....Or, maybe two? At LEAST one wanted their help.
Almost ten minutes later, they arrived at Twilight's door, and Apple Bloom knocked. "Yes?" Twilight replied, opening the door. She gasped when she saw what was before her eyes, then smiled. "Another new princess! I take it you want me to handle her?" Apple Bloom nodded, a bit exhausted and let Twilight handle the princess. Twilight put Derpy on her bed. "Hopefully you'll be able to hold your responsibilities without worry, unlike me." She giggled a bit and walked downstairs. She got out another book from behind the rest. This was no ordinary book, though. It was the one that brought her together with her friends. She looked at Spike. "Spike, do you remember the day we first arrived here in Ponyville? We thought Pinkie was CRAZY. I remember not wanted them to go into the forest, thinking it was my mission, and mine alone." She said. "That day was amazing. But now look at us. Pinkie seems normal, I'm a princess, and we're about as close of friends as they get!" Spike laughed. "What?"
"Nothing. You just seem so...different."
"Well, I have so many things to do now, and it cuts time for reading and friends." Twilight and Spike continued their conversation, and the day continued. The sun began setting and they had been talking for hours.
Back near the Rainbow sisters, a dark energy surrounded them. Rainbow Strike called out, "Rainbow Dash!" The darkness surrounded them completely. "Rainbow Strike, stay calm. Just leave the cloud from the bottom." Replied RD. Rainbow Strike jumped and dove through the cloud, emerging below, a key held by her wing between two feathers. Dash looked at it and asked, "Hey, what's that key?" Strike replied, "I'm not sure. It came from the direction of the ancient castle just before the darkness." Dash seemed confused, but suggested that they go to Twilight's house for the night. Rainbow Strike agreed and they flew to her house. Once they explained everything, from how Twilight hadn't met RS, to the key and darkness, Twilight gasped. "What's wrong?" Dash asked. Twilight shook a feeling off. "I'll explain in the morning."
"And that's about when the Crusaders came by and dropped off Princess Derpy." Twilight said. "But...I'm not sure how this happened. Derpy, I imagine you know?" Derpy nodded. "Princess Luna asked me to go find a scroll and read it, and she said it was in her old castle. So, it turns out there were secret passages open, and one had the scroll. By the time I finished reading it, I was here. As I read more, I began to have the horn appear on my and the crown too. I must've fallen into some weird state where I continued reading. I dunno, maybe Luna knew I'd pass out or whatever."
"So, you're a princess now? Heh. You realize that that's awesome, right?" Rainbow Strike said. "I guess. As long a I don't have a thousand hoof-fuls to do as a princess." Replied the silver pega-I mean Alicorn. They all laughed, but Twilight looked at RS and asked, "Do you still have that key?" Strike shook her head. "It vanished last night." "Huh...Alright, well as long as the other two are okay, it'll be fine...For now." Twilight said. Derpy looked at Dash. "So, is this that sister of yours?" She asked. Dash nodded. "Hi there! I'm Rainbow Strike."
"My name is Derpy Hooves. I'm the mail pony...and I guess a princess or something." Rainbow Dash stood up. "If there are two other keys, we should go find the others. We just need clearance from Princess Cadence and Princess Luna." She said. Twilight nodded. "Alright. Derpy, you need to go with the Rainbow sisters, Fluttershy and Applejack to look in Canterlot Castle for the key. Keep it safe." Derpy nodded as the three flew out towards the livings of the other two. Twilght ran to get Pinkie, Rarity, and Spike, who was at Rarity's after leaving last night.
A few hours later, everypony was at the correct location. Derpy led the four with her into the castle. Soon, they were at Luna and Celestia's throne room. "Princess Luna?" Derpy called out, neither princess there. Luna flew inside from a window. "My apologies. I was waiting and found something. Anyway, is there something you need?" Rainbow Dash flew closer since they were only at the door. "Could we search the castle for a key?" Luna gasped. "Yes. But please hurry." She seemed nervous over something...Rainbow Strike began walking out of the door. "Let's split up to find it." The others nodded in agreement, and Fluttershy followed Rainbow Strike to be safe. They walked down towards the basement. "So, um, Rainbow Strike, does your sister ever tell you about us? She tells us all about you, and it's always so cool."
"Yeah. I remember when she told me about the time you got carried away with-"
"We all remember that incident." Just then, something sparkled on a table in the dark room. They ran over, and found the key sitting there. Fluttershy reached to grab it when suddenly, something swooped in an grabbed it, honestly saying, "Sorry, but this is important..." Without further warning, the room wet silent, the Pegasi staring with their mouthes wide open. They turned around and ran to tell the others.
Twilight and friends were in the Crystal Empire an entered the castle. "Cadence is away on important duties with Discord." Was what could be heard as the door opened. Twilight replied, "So that's where you and Discord have been then. Listen, we need to search the castle. It's about a key that's very dangerous." Celestia stopped her and replied, "Only certain ponies can touch the keys. Luna, three ponies you must discover, and a resident of here born in Canterlot. His name is Glacier Freeze." She lifted a painting to twilight with magic and Pinkie jumped.
"Yes! We get to meet somepony new!" Rarity rolled her eyes. "And only you would get this excited over that. Though perhaps he could be a little more like me." Spike laughed. "That's so funny, I saw that guy leaving a house right when we arrived. What a coincidence. If only I knew then." Twilight turned to the door and her friends and they walked out. "We have to find Glacier before anything happens to him. Let's split up. Spike, you come with me. Pinkie and Rarity, cover the other side for now, and meet back here in ten minutes." They all nodded in agreement, and ran off.
Twilight took directions from Spike to get to the house. It wasn't memory, it was the house standing out in looks and location that he remembered. He usually had average memory, no better, no worse. Twilight knocked on the door, and blue magic surrounded it as it opened. A stallion's voice called to them, "Come in. I'll only be a minute." Twilight and Spike walked in and sat down in the living room. About 2 minutes later, an ice blue unicorn with a cutie mark that looked like Rarity's as if frozen walked over to them. He used magic to put away a shirt he was working on. "Sorry, my new line is supposed to be out soon. I was rushing." He chuckled. "So, you need somethin'?"
"Yes. Are you, by some chance, Glacier Freeze?" He looked confused, but realized what was going on quickly. "You must be Princess Twilight , right? Did you need me for something?"
"Well you see, there's this set of keys, with powers beyond imagining, and they seem to be getting in the wrong hooves. Only a select few ponies can touch them, and you're one of them." He walked out the door, motioning to Twilight to leave. "Then we better find it."
They met up back in the front of the castle and introduced each other. Pinkie didn't break out into dog, but instead got serious. "We need to get to that key fast. Derpy learned magic quickly or something, because she sent me a letter saying that somepony stole the key right from Fluttershy and Rainbow Strike." Twilight nodded. They ran inside and went down to the dark areas of the castle.
The group had soon reached the top of the castle, and Glacier looked around. "So, somehow we took an invisible path, through fury magic, ended up up here on top, and now we have to find a key?" Glacier asked. "Pretty much. Just a usual moment getting ready to use the Elements. Of course, I personally think that this is a far too obvious location for the key." Rarity stated. Pinkie stopped them before carefully approaching a small red bump on the ground. "What's this?"
"Probably some kind of barrier." Rarity said.
Glacier looked away. "And an ugly one at that."
"But perhaps we could get it away..."
Twilight tapped it with her hoof. It zapped her. "Magic might not be it. Maybe we could find some other way...some way to overload it and make it shatter itself." Pinkie quickly got a balloon and put it over the barrier. "Everypony stand back!" She said. The balloon popped and confetti flew as the barrier began cracking.
Just then, a pony in a mysterious cloak with a silver nose and hooves, and green tail visible flew in and grabbed the key from the shattering barrier. "Sorry, everypony. I just have somepony to repay with this." She flew away quickly. Twilight just stared. She stated, "That was...Odd. This is bad. Given the circumstances, I'd say that she had all three keys. If she ge-"
Rarity cut her off. "Princess Luna must be protected!" Glacier nodded in agreement. Twilight teleported her friends one by one to Canterlot, and finally herself. "Princess Luna!" She called, as they ran to meet the others there as well as Luna.
"Something wrong, Twilight?" Asked Rainbow Dash. Twilight replied quickly, "The third key was stolen. Princess Luna, we need to keep you protected from...whoever that pony was."
"Hey sis, the night the key vanished, last night, did you see anypony?"
"Same pony Fluttershy and I saw, actually. But, I couldn't stop her."
"Then WE need to." Applejack replied. Just then, wind began blowing from a golden dot near the door, as it grew and began revealing an Alicorn. She was yellow, and her cutie mark was three red clouds with gold sparkles, as in the middle of them was a yellow gem. Twilght stepped forward. "Who...Who are you?"
"My name is Golden Sky. No, I'm not a princess. I came to help when I found out about the keys. See, I went to the library to read after you left. I saw the book and found out who the ponies who can touch the keys are...I came to tell you." She sighed, hoping they would believe her. Twilight put her hoof out. "The name's Twilight Sparkle." Golden shook hooves with her. "Their names are Glacier Freeze, Rainbow Strike, and Silver shine. Then there's me."
Twilight looked at Strike and Glacier. "Well then we need to find Silver Shine. She has all three keys."
"WHAT?" Golden began panicking, and a hoof touched her horn. "Don't worry, we got this." Twilight said.
Derpy looked at Luna, Twilight, Luna, Golden, Luna, Pinkie, Luna, Twilight, and back to Luna. "I need to stay. Both to protect the princess and to learn more about this new task of mine." She said. Rainbow Strike replied, "If that's your mission, then do it. We have a mission too, so good luck!" Derpy smiled.
A little later, with spike left with Derpy, and the group of now ten ponies in the library, they began thinking of where the keys and the pony could be. "She flew in the direction of Ponyville when she stole the key!" Rainbow strike said. "Yeah, and my key came from the old castle, too!" Twilight thought for a moment. "Well, we'd better go then. Come on!" They all ran out the door. They quickly ran through the Everfree Forest, unsure of what may lie ahead.
They were lucky in the forest, with no trouble. But that was about to change. As soon as they reached the castle, a flash of black, purple, white, and dark silver flashed all around.
At Canterlot Castle, Luna began feeling pain. Slowly, she fell over. "Princess Luna!" Derpy called as she ran over. A dark force slammed her back, as a shadowy pony appeared next to the unconscious night princess. "N-Nightmare Moon?"
"Somepony knows her history...Princess..."
"How did-"
"I am Luna, or at least I was. Now that I am free, I will find she who brought me out." She flew out through a window as it smashed on the ground. Derpy ran over and picked up Luna, placing her on her throne. "Princess, please be alright..."
Back at the old castle, the ponies were rushing through, and had split up. They met up in the entrance room. "Anything?" Twilight asked. "Nope." Replied Rarity. Glacier shook his head. "And I should mention that it was difficult with the fallen chunks of castle on the ground." Pinkie Pie nodded in agreement. Fluttershy shook her head to reply to Twilight. The Rainbow Sisters both shook their heads, and Applejack carved 'No' into an apple. "Then to the basement, as a last search. Right?" Golden said. Twilight nodded and led the way. "Stay together, but split up." Glacier began. "Rarity, Golden Sky, Rainbow Strike, and I will cover one side. Is that alright?"
"Sure. Pinkie, Applejack, Fluttershy, and Rainbow Dash, we have to check this way. Stay close." The groups split up, though little did they know how unwise that was.
Glacier's half was looking around for clues of where the flash came from. "You think Nightmare Moon was freed? I sure hope not." Rainbow Strike said. "Now THAT would be bad." Golden replied. "There's just nothing around here, as if nothing happened." Glacier said. "Perhaps returning to the center would be the best option? I mean, it's not like we've found an-"
"Found something!" Rarity shouted. "But...I have no idea what this is."
"The cloak from when Fluttershy and I had the key taken. Since the only other who can touch it is that Silver Shoe or whatever, that must mean she has all three keys."
"Which means that the flash was the keys..."
Meanwhile, Twilight and friends were searching the other half of the area. Pinko was bouncing around, but she stopped when she noticed something. She grabbed the odd key and bounced over to Twilight. "Is this one of those keys?"
"Yeah...They were positioned..."
Fluttershy came over. "Should we return to the center then?" Twilight nodded. The ten ponies soon met up where they started, one group with the cloak and the other had the key. "What's the cloak?" Asked Twilight. "It's the cloak of that Silver Shin whatever pony. She brought back Nightmare Moon." Strike replied. "And the key, sis?"
"This is the key you had. We just have to find Silver Shine and Nightmare Moon."
Twilight looked up. "I...I can hear something, but I don't know what. Two ponies talking...But who..." She signaled for everypony to remain silent and she listened.
"Excellent job, and it was earlier than planned as well."
"B-But if I waited, those six ponies an their new friends would've stopped me. I c-couldn't let anypony trap you."
"Well, perhaps you will make a good family member and as you agreed, a good servant."
"Yep! Anything for you, Nightmare Moon."
Twilight gasped. "We have to get out. Nightmare Moon is here. Magic won't work, but maybe I can distract her."
"No way are we lettin' you leave just so we can return home. I think you should just have some other way for us to get out." Applejack said.
Rainbow Dash quickly replied, "We can't get out with magic, so we should just have one or two of us stay behind and hope to make it out. Me and Twilight can handle it."
"Rainbow Dash, we can't lose anypony more than we need to."
"Twilight, if you do it alone, we'll all be captured."
Applejack stomped her front left hoof. "We make a break for the exit and save whoever we can. Sound good?"
So, in total agreement, or at least mostly agreement, they sprinted upstairs and towards the exit. Nightmare Moon slammed the door shut and Silver Shine quickly ran over and grabbed Rainbow Dash and Twilght before they could fly away. "Not so fast!" Nightmare Moon also grabbed Fluttershy with full force, not realizing RS could fly, or that Golden was an Alicorn. Golden quickly grabbed everypony but Rainbow Strike and Pinkie, and took off before reactions could be made. Rainbow Strike grabbed Pinkie and did the same, just in time.
A few minutes passed before they were halfway back and landed near Zecora's hut. "Everypony, we should walk back. We may need to fly."
Zecora noticed them from a short distance and walked to them. "The sun is setting, and you won't be home in time. Care to stay at my place, at least for the night?" She asked. "Wouldn't hurt to be inside and resting soon." Golden said.
The next morning, the group was well-rested, and quickly headed home after thanking Zecora for the stay.
Meanwhile, in the castle dungeon, the three were pushed into different cells by Silver Shine. "You can't stop Nightmare Moon. Besides, if you just help her like I do, I'm sure she'd be nice like she is to me!" She smiled and ran upstairs to hopefully be able to continue to fulfill her promise. "So they're separated?"
"Yep."
"And you told them about their chance?"
"That's the most important."
"Then they know their choices. Go have fun, Silver Shine. You deserve it after today. Capturing two flying ponies yourself is a new record for you."
"If you want me to." Silver Shine hugged Nightmare Moon, and it was returned before she flew away into Ponyville with her cloak on.
She soon arrived and saw Golden Sky. Around Nightmare Moon, Silver may seem like a talkative pony, but she was actually more like Fluttershy. "E-Excuse me." She said in a soft voice, tapping Golden. Golden Sky turned around and replied, "Yeah?"
"I th-think you dropped this." She handed the yellow Alicorn a key. "The key looks beautiful. Is it for Ponyville's fashion designer's place or something?"
"Nope. It's just a regular key." Golden took the key with magic and put it in her saddlebag. "So what's your name? I'm Golden Sky!"
"My name...it's..." She suddenly began trying to stray from the topic. "So, are you some kind of Princess?"
"Nope. Just an Alicorn."
Silver Shine turned around. "I have some shopping to do, so maybe I'll s-see you around sometime." She walked off towards the market area.
"That was oddly...Familiar. That cloak...But if that were Silver Shine, she wouldn't be like Fluttershy, right? So, what was up with that?" She began thinking as she walked to the library to meet up with the others.
About ten minutes later, silver shine decided that a similar face couldn't hurt her secret, so she took the hood off and sat on a bench. "I'm so glad I was able to keep my promise. And then tonight, it'll all be complete! It's so exciting!" A certain pink pony hears that, and quickly walked over and sat down next to her. "Hi there." She said. "Um...Hi..."
"So I heard you saying something fun was happening tonight. Is it the end of a game event?"
"Um...A game...Y-Yeah, that's what it is that I was talking about. My, uh, victory should be c-complete tonight."
"You seem familiar...Hey, are you that mean Silver Shine pony?"
"S-Silver wh-who?" Silver Shine knew she couldn't keep her cover long.
Pinkie stood up. "I dunno...You look like her...Nah, she acts way different. Anyway, my name's-"
"Pinkie Pie, right? I heard about your parties back in...Home." Silver smiled, remembering hearing ponies talking about Ponyville's party expert back where she used to live, alone. Pinkie smiled back. "You know what my favorite thing in the world is?"
"Parties?"
"Nope!"
Silver tilted her head. "Then what?" Pinkie laughed for a moment before replying, "Seeing my friends happy and smiling." Silver Shine looked at her. "I see...So, what about ponies you don't like?" Pinkie grabbed Silver's hoof and walked her trough Ponyville, explaining how she loves making friends with everypony.
Meanwhile, with no place of his own, Glacier was at Rarity's place. "Rarity, you said you design clothing for ponies, right? Requests and an occasional idea-based line?" Rarity nodded. Glacier continued, "I was wondering if I could borrow some materials. I have my own line and I want to base it off of Ponyville. It IS the home of friendship in Equestria, right?"
"Wha? S-Sure you could. I...Wouldn't see why amazing designers such as you and I can't share equipment."
Glacier froze for a moment. "You sound like you...Nevermind." He went upstairs and began to work on something. As he mixed and matched and tested materials, he created an incredible design. Crystals, snow, a sun, a moon, a raindrop, ice, the Elements of Harmony, and even some leaves. "The final piece to my line. The one that gives the unity everypony shares in Equestria, whether they see it or not, just as the sun, moon, seasons, and Elements. Alone, they can't do much. Together, Rarity and I-er, they make a perfect set."
--The earlier night, Zecora's Hut, 11:00PM-- In the other ponies' sleep, Glacier and Rarity couldn't sleep. "Glacier, you said you design clothes like dresses and suits for the Crystal Ponies?" She whispered.
"Yeah. My new line should be out soon. It represents stability and unity. Like day and night, the seasons, and the Elements of Harmony."
"Glacier...You know that ice and crystals are also two things that go magnificent together right?"
"Yeah, I guess...Though it would be cold to wear." Glacier chuckled for a moment. 'Does she know I... No, she couldn't know that.' He thought to himself.
Rarity was in deep thought, not even realizing Glacier had fallen asleep. 'Does Glacier know that I had feeling for him when I saw him...I hope he feels that way about me, because if I tell him, and he doesn't, that would be odd for a few minutes.' Rarity herself soon fell asleep.
--Present-- Rarity threw out the paper she ha and started from scratch. "It has to be perfect!" She began drawing on the paper, and the designs she created were amazing. Shining gems and flames, but it didn't feel right. This was something she thought might look good, though, so she decided to keep this design.
A few hours passed and Silver Shine had made her way back to the old castle. She landed near the entrance and walked in, running to hug Nightmare Moon.
Nightmare Moon returned the hug before stepping back. She looked up and the moon. "Only a few hours, Silver Shine. And your dream and mine will come true..."
"Really? And now that those three are down there, the Elements of Harmony can't be used by their friends. But, I don't see why I can't, you know, be myself out there."
"I can't let you. If the ponies of Ponyville found out, they'd probably 'befriend' you, and turn around and get information from you" Nightmare Moon replied. Silver replied quickly, "But I'd never tell ANYPONY anything about me and you...Besides, you're like my mom...can't you act like it?"
"Silver Shine...Mothers aren't there because of deals...Even if we are closer than family...But as your legal guardian, I can say that what I'm doing is what any mother would do. You can't take chances...Please, understand. Anyway, I believe the others should be visited."
"Let me talk to them, please? You need to keep watch of where the moon is for where to stop it."
"Alright. Remember, no matter what they say, just don't call me your mother..." Nightmare Moon said. Silver Shine nodded as she walked downstairs to where they were locked up. "Hi everypony!"
"Silver Shine, why are you working with Nightmare Moon?" Twilight asked. Silver Shine didn't answer. "So, I hope you've enjoyed your stay...aside from the cell part. You get the same food Nightmare Moon and I have, so you're just our guests...Sorta..."
Rainbow Dash slammed into her bars. "Why did you take the three of US?"
"You can fly. We didn't realize the fully could fly, and we thought the yellow one was just a unicorn."
Twilight nodded to agree with Silver Shine. "It does seem to make sense..." She pointed her hoof at Silver as she got the closest she could to her. "But I still want to know why you're helping her. Please tell me."
"She gives me a home I'm not alone in. She takes care of me. Besides, I absolutely LOVE the night, except in Everfree. Anyway, you won't be aloud to leave anyway, so you could allow yourselves a way to walk around the castle by helping Nightmare Moon." She leaned in towards Twilight. "Listen...I'm sorry. I can get you and them out but you can't let her know I did it."
"Why not?" Twilight whispered back.
"I don't wanna be here all week. She might punish me by not letting me go out."
"Fine. Tomorrow though, I need sleep. And tell her I said these beds aren't that bad. And no, we aren't joining you."
Silver Shine nodded and turned around.
