"The Last Straw"

by Mudraynebow

By the time Spike got to Rarity's boutique, it was nearly two in the morning. Twilight was back in her library, asleep, and she had no idea that Spike was out at this time of night.

Spike climbed his way up to the second floor of the boutique and looked in Rarity's bedroom. Yes. She was there in bed, asleep. Next to her boyfriend. Spike's grip on the long, sharp knife he held in his right claw tightened. He couldn't wait to get in there and teach him a lesson. To teach both of them a lesson.

Spike thought back to a few days before. His relationship with Rarity had been going along well. They had gone on several dates, and Spike had felt happier than he had ever felt before in his life. That had all changed earlier the day before. Spike had been walking through the market downtown with a list of things Twilight had wanted and a bag. That was when, out the corner of his eye, he had seen Rarity with a stallion in the shadows by the side of Sugarcube Corner, talking. Before Spike had even processed this, he saw something much worse, he had seen the stallion lean in and kiss Rarity. Kiss her. And she had kissed him back. Spike had barely managed to hold his anger in, but he had, and had gotten the rest of the things for Twilight. But he also promised himself that he would get back at Rarity for cheating on him. And that's why Spike was at her house at two in the morning, holding a knife.

The window of the bedroom wasn't locked, and Spike pushed it open silently and with ease. He climbed in through the open window and landed silently on the floor of the bedroom. Creeping towards the left side of the bed where Rarity's boyfriend was sleeping, he raised the knife. Spike climbed onto the bed and gently shook the stallion, who murmured a bit but didn't wake up. Spike shook him harder. This time, the stallion stirred and slowly began to sit up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes with his hoof.

"Rarity?" the stallion mumbled groggily. "Rarity, is that-"

The stallion broke off in mid-sentence as his eyes opened and he saw Spike standing over him in the darkness. The moonlight shining in through the open window glinted off the blade of the knife Spike was holding.

The stallion was about to say something, but he never got the chance. Spike darted around him, grabbed him around the neck, and, in one swift movement, slit the stallion's throat. The stallion instantly began gagging and choking, unable to speak, and he tried to stand up but instead, he fell off the bed to the floor.

The loud THUMP of the stallion hitting the floor caused Rarity to stir, but Spike was already on her, and he used the serrated edge of the knife to start to saw through her horn. Rarity was only half awake, still confused, but when the blade of the knife quickly reached the center of Rarity's horn where the nerve was, she awoke instantly, gasping, trying to scream in pain. Spike grabbed her horn and with a burst of strength, broke it off where the knife had been cutting through it. Rarity screamed even louder.

"Shut up!" Spike hissed. "Just SHUT UP! Or I'll kill you right now!"

Rarity finally got ahold of herself, and quieted down to sobbing, despite the searing pain from where her horn used to be.

Spike went across the room, turned on the light, and stared at the now dead stallion on the floor. The stallion's eyes were open wide, staring at nothing, and he was lying in a pool of his own blood which had spread out from his cut throat and was now soaking into the carpet. Rarity, still sobbing, started to get off the bed.

"Sit down and don't move!" Spike shouted. "Sit down, NOW!"

"Ok!" Rarity cried, sitting back down on the bed.

"That's better," Spike said. "You wouldn't want me to wake up Sweetie, now, would you? I don't think she'd like to see what I'm gonna do with you!"

Rarity continued to sob.

"Shut up, just SHUT UP!" shouted Spike. "And now, answer me this: how could you replace me with him? How could you?"

Spike was now starting to get tears in his own eyes, both from sadness and fury.

"How could you, Rarity? I thought you loved me! How COULD you?!"

Rarity's only answer was to cry some more.

"Well, you're going to listen to me now, Rarity! If you really didn't love me, you could have just said so, and that would have been fine. But no, you have to lie to me, cheat on me- are you out of your fucking mind, Rarity? How could you let him sleep with you, huh? Well, look at him now!"

"I don't want to!" Rarity sobbed.

"I SAID LOOK AT YOUR BOYFRIEND NOW, RARITY!" Spike shouted. "After what I did to him, he's not so good-looking now, is he? Nope, ol' Spikey Wikey took care of him!"

"Why are you doing this, Spike?" Rarity cried. "I never thought-"

"YOU SHUT UP!" Spike screamed at her. "You never thought at all! You never cared about how I might feel about all of this! Selfish bitch!

"You think you can get away with this?" Rarity sobbed. "Because you can't!"

"Does it look like I care?" Spike shouted. "Now get up. We're going for a little ride in your carriage!" Spike raised the bloody knife threateningly.

Rarity sobbed more as she got off the bed.

"Why are you doing this to me? What if Sweetie Belle wakes up while we're gone?"

"I promise we'll be right back, Rarity! I'll even let you lay in the back on our way back. But right now, you'll be sitting in the front with me!"

Holding the scared and sobbing Rarity at knife-point, he led her down the stairs, out the front door, and to the carriage. Spike got in on the driver's side after helping Rarity get in on the passenger's side and locking the door. Spike started up the carriage and they began to drive through the silent, dark streets of Ponyville. Spike kept one claw firmly around his knife while he drove.

As they drove on, Spike turned to Rarity.

"We'll get there in a few minutes, so I'll make this quick. You really screwed me over this time, Rarity. You've REALLY done it! I never thought those memories of you and I just being normal friends and nothing more would come back to my mind to haunt my memory. But all that was a month ago! I thought your feelings for me really had changed!"

"I really love you, Spikey Wikey!" Rarity tried, crying.

"QUIT LYING TO ME!" Spike shouted.

Rarity, still crying, tried one more thing.

"With all the noise you made back at my boutique, you probably woke up Sweetie Belle. She probably knows something is wrong and she's getting my friends to come out and look for me!"

Spike grinned, despite the tears in his eyes and the sadness and anger he felt.

"I didn't wake up Sweetie Belle," he said. "And you should be glad, because if she had woken up, she'd be laying dead with her throat slit right next to your boyfriend! You better not think I'm joking, either, Rarity. With the way I'm feeling right now, I could murder a filly without batting an eye."

Rarity just put her head in her hooves and began to sob loudly again, which continued for a few minutes.

"Why don't you like me, Rarity?" Spike suddenly asked. "Is it just because I'm a dragon?"

"Spike, I love you!" Rarity tried again. She looked at Spike with her tear-filled pleading eyes, and reached for him. Spike used a claw to slap her hooves away.

"Stay away from me, Rarity!" Spike shouted. "I hate you! I love you, but I'm sorry, I hate you!"

Rarity just continued to cry.

"How could you DO this to me?" Spike shouted. "How could you DO this to me!"

"I'm sorry!" Rarity cried.

Fifteen more minutes passed with just the sound of Rarity's sobs. They left Ponyville and turned down onto a road that led away from the town which was only lit by the moonlight.

"I'm sorry," Rarity sobbed again softly.

Spike suddenly stopped the carriage. For a moment, Rarity thought Spike had accepted her apology and was letting her out here, but then, his intentions became deadly clear. They were out of Ponyville, and at the edge of the Everfree Forest. Spike raised the knife.

"Get out."

"I don't wanna!" Rarity screamed. "I'm too scared!"

"GET OUT!" Spike roared, jabbing the knife at her.

Rarity quickly got out of the carriage with Spike right behind her.

Rarity turned to face Spike.

"I love you, Spike!" she cried. "Please, let's just go back to Ponyville!"

"NO!" Spike shouted. "YOU did this! This is all YOUR fault! YOU brought this on YOURSELF! You could have just not done this, Rarity. If you had just stayed away from that stallion-"

While Spike was talking, Rarity glanced around, and made a run for it, headed for the Everfree Forest.

"HEY!" Spike shouted, chasing after her. "Where are you going, Rarity? There's nowhere to run!"

Rarity made it about ten feet into the Forest when she tripped over a tree root in the dark. Immediately, Spike was all over her, holding her by the neck.

"I got you now, bitch!" Spike screamed with the voice of a lunatic.

Rarity began to scream.

"Oh, so you like screaming?" Spike yelled. Me too, see? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH! Except no one can hear us, Rarity! It's just us, all alone here at night! Now, you'll get what you deserve!

Spike raised the knife.

"Love me, Rarity!" he screamed, then slashed her throat open. Rarity tried to scream, but all that came out was a spray of blood. Blood poured down the unicorn's neck, turning her white coat a gruesome red color in the light of the moon. Her eyes rolled into the back of her head. She was dead.

After fifteen minutes, Spike had finally dragged Rarity's bloody corpse back to the carriage. He opened the door and shoved the body in the back. He was sad that he lost Rarity, but he knew it was necessary. She had, after all, cheated on him.

Spike climbed into the driver's side of the carriage and started it up. He wiped his bloody claws off as best as he could and put the knife under the seat. Then, whistling, he began to drive back in the direction of Ponyville.
