> Living in the Oasis Apartments > by Ravedarkness > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > A new type of alarm > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rave woke up like any other day. The sounds of his alarm clock berated his ears as the sunlight seeped through his window. He set up, his hair an utter mess, as he looked throughout his room. Half-empty packing boxes were sprawled throughout the room in a seemly disorganized fashion. They showed the signs of Rave’s unwillingness to finish unpacking and setting up his room. The things that were already set up were few and far between: the aforementioned alarm clock, a small set of cups, a tea kettle, a shelf that contained some audio records and a few books, and a desk on which set a few small items he had received as housewarming gifts. Beside the gifts laid a letter. He had received the letter exactly three months ago. It was this letter that led to his current situation. He was given ownership of an old college dorm in the city of Fillydelphia by his father. The dorm had twelve rooms including his, nine of which were currently rented out. Remembering the events that followed after receiving the letter, Rave looked up to the ceiling. He had to move from his apartment in Los Pegasus to live in the dorms. His father, who goes by the name Low Swing due to the fact that his real name proved too hard for most native Equestrians to pronounce, had come into ownership of the building. How Low Swing had come to own the building Rave didn’t know since he really didn’t ask. Rave wasn’t his father’s first choice in passing the ownership to. That pleasure belonged to Rave’s older brother Oni, who had politely rejected his father’s gift. That rejection meant that the property fell into Rave’s hooves. Rave jumped at the chance to help out his father even though he had no clue what owning the building would entail. Rave always had this drive that would make him kill for any chance to impress his father, so before he knew it he had packed up his apartment in Los Pegasus and moved to Fillydelphia. When he first came across the dorm he could tell it would need some work. The dorm wasn’t in bad shape but it had seen better days. The gate to the dorms had rusted and the dorm itself needed a lot of paint. The roof and the pipes were leaky, and several of the windows were so dirty that they had to be replaced. The building besides these facts seemed alright. Mostly everything worked inside much to Rave’s delight. Not wanting to ask his father for money to repair the problems with the dorm, Rave took up some odd jobs. From construction to weather detail, he took whatever he could get. He found himself deejaying at a nightclub for a bit. It was there that he meet the unicorn stallion Steam Spin who offered him a spot to try out for his radio station, The Spin Center. After Rave passed the tryouts, he and Steam would hang out almost every day. Steam started having problems with his landlord about the loud music he would play almost nightly, so Rave invited him to live in the dorms with him to which Steam gratefully accepted. Steam started to help Rave with the repairs to the dorms even opting to soundproof Steam’s room so that he wouldn’t disturb others. After a month and a half of hard work, Rave put out this listing for the newly repaired Oasis Apartments. The listing had succeeded but not in a way Rave nor Steam had predicted. Waking up from his thoughts as the gears in his head beginning to turn, Rave reached over and turned off his alarm clock. He laid his head back down on his pillow, all the while debating whether he should go back to sleep or start his day. Coming to the decision for more sleep, his eye began to close so he could resume his rest. They were almost completely closed before a movement in his bed caused them to shoot open as he became completely aware of his surroundings again. He rolled over in his bed to see that he wasn’t the only occupant of his bed as was the fact when he went to sleep the night before. Before him he saw the back side of a very dark blue mare. Her long main resembled the night sky before the stars began to light it up. Rave just looked on at his intruder as she made a couple of small movements. The shallowness of her breath was evidence that she was still asleep despite Rave’s earlier movements and the alarm clock. 'As he laid there, Rave began to notice an odd aroma. She smelt like a summer night’s breeze as she slept there not even a foot away from him. Most stallions would have killed to wake up to a sight like this, and Rave was no different; however, the forefront thought in his mind was why. Rave moved to wake her up, but as he did she rolled over in his bed. He was now face to face with the mysterious mare. Her entire being filling his vision as her shallow breath washed over his muzzle. He could do nothing more but look at her. Shocked by the current situation Rave didn’t notice that her front hooves had positioned themselves around to his back. Before he knew it he was locked in an embrace with the mare that had taken up residence in his bed. His face positioned right beside hers as she pulled him closer. His entire awareness of the world was closed off to only her. Now stuck, his brain decided to start putting the facts together to figure out who this bed intruder was. After a few seconds he recognized this mare as the unicorn Starless Night, a resident of the apartments. “At least it’s not some random mare,” Rave said to himself as he started to move to free himself from her grip without waking her up. Once free he looked back at her. She looks so peaceful. I’ll just let her sleep and we can sort this out when she wakes up. Rave slowly moved away from the sleeping Star as he attempted to get out of the bed without waking her. His hooves touched down on the wooden floor as he got out of the bed. Starting his normal morning routine he began stretching out his stiff body. He started to stretch his wing in an attempt to get them to lie back down as the bed event had left them in a particular stiff state. Moving over to the mirror in his room to fix the black and white mess he called his hair, he heard a small squeal from behind him. “Wha… wha….What. Are. You. Doing. In. My. Room. ” A confused and angry Star stuttered as she questioned Rave. Before Rave could explain the she was in fact in his room, Star looked down at the sheets of the bed and came to the conclusion that he just got out of ‘her’ bed. “Why were you sleeping in my bed Rave?” Star yelled as Rave could see the anger in her face. A very familiar cracking sound filled the room as he saw Star charging magic into her horn. Rave raised his hooves to cover his face in anticipation of being hit by the magic she was charging. Lowering his hooves after a few seconds as he heard the magic stop, he was met with a sight he wasn’t expecting. Star had stop charging her magic and the anger on her face had been replaced by embarrassment as she had taken the time to look around the room. “This isn’t my room,” Star said as she looked at Rave embarrassed. Even with her dark blue coat Rave could still see the redness in her face.“So this is your bed,” Star’s face growing redder as she spoke. “That it would be,” Rave replied relieved that he didn’t get blasted with magic. Through his relief his mind was occupied to the point that he didn’t hear Star talking to him. “Rave!” Star yell for the third time in a row, the anger in her voice returning for that brief moment. “My bad Star. I’m still a little out of it. What is it?” Rave replied still happy that ‘magical target’ didn’t get added to his resume “I asked. Did you like it?” Star repeated as she turned away embarrass she was even asking the question. “Like what Star?” Rave question not entirely sure what she was asking “Sleeping in the same bed as me,” Star explained, the redness of her face returning completely. Normally a question like this would have set off a ‘Do Not Answer’ flag in Rave’s head; however, this morning had been anything but normal. Between the weird wake up call and the actions of Star who was still sitting on his bed, Rave’s brain had taken a rain check. Needless to say Rave gave the worst possible answer to Star since his brain didn’t perform quality control on his mouth. “No. We real...,” Rave started before he took a blast of magic to his chest. The blast knocked him to the floor in pain. “JERK!” Star yelled out as she got out of the bed and stormed out of the room leaving Rave gasping on the floor. Rave laid there as the pain continued to register in his brain. Of all the good ways to spend the first ten minutes of being awake, this was not one of them. Rolling over so that he was looking at the ceiling, Rave let out a sigh. He looked at the door to his room which was still open after Star had made her retreat. Turning back to the ceiling, Rave began to speak to himself. “I’ve only been away for ten minutes and I’ve already been blasted with magic. Today is going to be a good day.” Rave closed his eyes and laid there waiting for the pain to subside.
