A Date to Remember

One month had passed since King Sombra was banished to the pits of Tartarus. Joshua’s first Winter Wrap-Up went nicely. He and Nyx helped Twilight with the organizing. Rarity even made him a vest matching Twilight’s. Nyx already had her’s from last year and it was also like Twilight’s. Hearts and Hooves Day was just around the corner. Joshua was really nervous. Silver Spoon helped to arrange a romantic dinner for him and Dinky on Hearts and Hooves Day, and he asked Rarity to make him a nice outfit for the evening, but the reason he was nervous was because he still had to ask Dinky out.

“You should just ask her Joshua,” Nyx said, “She won’t say no.”

“You sure?” Joshua asked.

“Trust me,” Nyx said smiling and placing a comforting hoof on Joshua’s shoulder, “The way you two act around each other, I guarantee she’ll say yes.” Joshua finally showed a smile as he hugged his sister.

“Thanks Nyx,” he said. He then left the house to find Dinky.

Meanwhile, Dinky was going through the same pang of nervousness. She too wanted to go on a date with Joshua this upcoming Hearts and Hooves Day, but was too afraid to ask. Derpy came up to her.

“Something wrong muffin?” she asked.

“Well Mom,” she said, “Hearts and Hooves Day is coming up.”

“Oh, I see,” Derpy said, smiling upon realization, “And you want to do something special for your Joshie, but you don’t know what.”

“Not exactly,” Dinky replied, “I want to go on a date with him, but I’m too nervous to ask.”

“You should just go up to him and ask him,” Derpy said, “I know the way you two look at each other. He won’t disagree to something like that.” Dinky smiled up at her mom and hugged her.

“Thanks Mom,” Dinky said. “I’m gonna go ask him right now.”

“Good luck!” Derpy said as Dinky ran out of the house.

Joshua was at the park sitting under a tree trying to think of what to say when he saw Dinky again.

“Joshie?”

Joshua looked beside him and saw Dinky trotting up to him with a nervous smile on her face.

“Hey Dinks,” he said. Dinky sat down next to him and put a hoof over his shoulders. Joshua then put an arm over her shoulders. The two of them sat in silence for a few minutes, until Dinky decided to break it.

“Nice day today, huh?” she asked.

“Yeah,” Joshua replied.

A few more minutes of silence passed.

“I’m...looking forward to my first Hearts and Hooves Day,” Joshua said.

“I’m looking forward to it too,” Dinky replied.

Another minute passed until Joshua sighed.

“Dinks?” he asked.

“Yes Joshie?” she asked back.

“Would you like to...,”

“Like to what?”

“Would you like to go on a...date on Hearts and Hooves Day?” Joshua asked.

Dink looked at Joshua surprised. He wanted to go on one with me this whole time? I guess that saves me asking him. She then smiled and kissed him on the cheek. “Does that answer your question?” she asked.

“You will?”

“Yes, I will,” Dinky said, “When will it be?”

“5 o’clock after school?” Joshua asked.

“That sounds perfect. I’ll be ready by then,” Dinky said. She then asked, “Do you wanna stay here for a little bit more?”

“Okay,” Joshua said nodding. For the rest of the afternoon they stayed under the tree arm and hoof over each other’s shoulders and looking off in the distance. When it came time for dinner, the two of them were reluctant to go back to their homes, but they knew they would meet up again soon enough.

Hearts and Hooves Day...

School was special that day since it was Hearts and Hooves Day. Cheerilee had a special party at the schoolhouse for her students. There were games, food, refreshments, and everypony gave each other cards. After school, Silver Spoon approached Joshua.

“Hey Joshua,” she said, “Having a good Hearts and Hooves Day?”

“I am Silver Spoon,” he replied, “It’s been a lot of fun.”

“Glad to hear it,” she said smiling. She then leaned in and whispered into his ear, “Your dinner date with Dinky is set up at Sugarcube Corner and all paid for. All you two need to do is have a good time.”

“Thanks Silver Spoon,” Joshua said hugging her. Silver Spoon hugged him back and then left for home.

“Hey Joshie,” he heard Dinky behind him, “What did Silver Spoon want?”

“She helped me with a place for you and me to have our date together,” he said, “We’re gonna go to Sugarcube Corner.”

“Sounds good to me,” she said kissing his cheek, “I’ll see you tonight then.”

“Bye Dinks!” Joshua said as he joined Nyx and started walking home.

5:00

Joshua was standing at the front door of Derpy’s house wearing a black tuxedo, black pants, black dress shoes, a white undershirt, and a black bow tie. He had a bouquet of flowers in his hands that he bought from the three flower ponies. He then knocked at the door and waited for an answer. The door opened and Sparkler was standing there.

“Good evening Joshua,” she said, “Here to pick up Dinky?”

“I am,” he replied nodding.

“Dinky!” Sparkler called, “Your coltfriend is here!” A few minutes later, Dinky came walking to the door as Sparkler stepped to the side for Joshua to see. Dinky was wearing a light blue dress with pink stars on it, and a pink pearl necklace around her neck.

“Wow Dinks,” Joshua said amazed, “You look beautiful.”

Dinky blushed at hearing that.

“Thanks Joshie,” she said, “You look really handsome yourself.”

“Here,” he said holding out the flowers, “These are for you.”

“Oh they’re beautiful,” Dink said taking them, “How sweet.” She then turned to Sparkler. “Could you put these in some water Sparkler?”

“Of course Dinky,” Sparkler said smiling, “You two lovebirds go and have fun now, okay?”

“Okay,” Joshua said. He then held right his arm out like a gentleman, “You ready?”

Dinky wrapped her left hoof around his arm and smiled, “Let’s go,” she said. The two of them walked to Sugarcube Corner side by side, hoof in arm. When they arrived, Joshua held the door open for Dinky.

“Ladies first,” he said.

“Thank you,” Dinky said as she walked in. The inside was dark and nopony else was around. The only light came from two candlesticks on a single table that was set out for them.

“Good evening you two,” came Pinkie’s voice. She was wearing a waiter’s get-up and had a waiter’s towel draped over her hoof as she held it up. “May I start you two lovebirds off with some drinks?”

“I’ll take a fruit juice,” Dinky said.

“Could I have some lemonade, please?” Joshua asked.

“One fruit juice and one lemonade coming right up!” Pinkie said. She then placed two menus in front of them. “Here are your menus. I’ll be back with your drinks and will be ready to take your orders.”

Pinkie then hurried into the kitchen to get their drinks ready for them. She poured them into wine glasses to make it fancy for them. She then placed the drinks on a tray and brought it out to them. After she placed the drinks down, she pulled out a pencil and notepad.

“Are you two ready to order?” she asked.

“Yes,” Dinky said, “I’ll take the salad with a muffin on the side.”

“And what’ll you have Joshie?” Pinkie asked.

“Could I have the spaghetti with a breadstick?” he asked.

“Sure!” Pinkie said, “I’ll be right back with your meals.”

She took their menus and went into the kitchen. Mr. and Mrs. Cake were waiting at the ready to make their meals.

“We need a salad with a muffin on the side, and a plate of spaghetti with a breadstick,” she said.

“Coming right up!” Mr. Cake said.

After the meals were made, Pinkie brought them out.

“There you go you two. Enjoy!” she said.

“Thanks Pinkie!” Joshua and Dinky said in unison. The two of them started eating together, while Pinkie looked on with a smile.

“How’s your salad Dinks?” Joshua asked after a while.

“It’s really good,” she said, “How about your spaghetti?”

“It’s delicious,” he said licking his lips after finishing a bite. The two of them continued eating together, enjoying each other’s company. After they finished the left the building, saying goodbye to Pinkie. They walked together hoof in arm again towards the park. They stopped by the tree where Joshua asked Dinky on this date and sat down together.

“Tonight was fun, Joshie,” Dinky said looking at Joshua.

“It sure was, Dinks,” Joshua said looking at her, “I hope you enjoyed it.”

“I sure did,” she said. The two of them looked at each other’s eyes for a little while until Dinky found herself leaning towards him and closing her eyes. She then puckered up and kissed him gently on the lips. Joshua looked at Dinky in surprise, but then smiled and blushed.

“Dinks,” Joshua said, “I don’t know what to say.”

“Just saying thanks for a wonderful evening,” she said looking away and blushing, “To be honest, I kinda wish that kiss under the mistletoe back at Hearth’s Warming lasted longer.” Dinky felt a hand under her chin as her head was lifted up to face Joshua.

“Me too,” he said. The two of them both kissed each other on the lips as it lasted longer than before. For the two of them this would be a date to remember.
