> A Letter to Our New Princess > by DoTheDaringDew > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > A Short Letter > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Princess Twilight Sparkle, I think that has a very nice ring to it, don’t you? No doubt that that is a title we all will have to get used to one way or another. I, for one, welcome it and look forward to this new change. Listen, I’m not exactly used to writing to figures of authority, so please pardon the small talk. However, one thing I do have experience in is helping other ponies and cheering them up. As a musician, I like to think that my songs can slap a smile on ponies’ faces and a start a rhythm in their hearts. I can’t sing for you through this parchment but that’s alright; there are several things I need to tell you straight out instead. Seeing ponies upset always gets me down and your coronation was no exception. That was my first trip to Canterlot with my friends in quite a while, and it was a beautiful ceremony! As somepony else who is not from Ponyville, your words really touched me. I had only moved to Ponyville several months before you came along. In the short time you have lived here with us, it blows my mind to think about how far you’ve really come. It doesn’t surprise me at all that a great mare like yourself would go on to do great things after the Summer Sun Celebration incident a year or two ago. You and your friends saved us all! That’s why what happened later on that day really bothered me. My friends and I spent a few hours enjoying the sights of Canterlot after your ceremony. As Luna’s moon began to rise, we realized that it was time to take the night train back home. As I said my goodbyes and started for the station, I flew over the castle’s grand garden and saw you pacing down below. Our new princess was all alone and sobbing. I struggled to understand everything you said behind your tears, but I could hear you say some very troubling things. I heard whimpers of, “I’m scared,” “I can’t do this,” and “what if I get overwhelmed?” The tremble in your voice upset me. I almost stopped and said something, but I’m pretty confident that intruding in the Canterlot castle gardens at night is frowned upon regardless of my intentions. I merely shook my head and continued for the station with the thought of your sadness heavy on my mind. I must admit that I was quite shocked at the big shift in your emotional state compared to earlier. You looked so overjoyed during your coronation as you smiled at those of us down below. Hay, you had every right to be happy. I love seeing other ponies succeed and I was happy for you when you gave your heartfelt speech. That’s why I can only imagine how difficult the hours following the coronation must have been. It’s easy to smile and hold yourself up when everypony around you, your friends, your family, and even your mentors feed off of the same joy…but when they all have left and the doors are shut? I’d assume that’s when the reality of your new life starts to sink in. Sometimes being alone with your thoughts, especially with concerns like that isn’t very pleasant. That being said, I really hope this letter finds you because you need to know that everything will be just fine. I know you’re nervous, but I also know that I’m not the only pony who has the utmost faith in you. Like I mentioned earlier, you have accomplished so much in the little time it has been since you came into the lives of every Ponyville citizen regardless of if you know them or not. You and I have only met a few times before, but that was just when I checked out a few books on musical subjects. If you don’t remember me or even know who I am, that is quite alright; I don’t expect you to. However, your name carries a great deal of weight in Ponyville as we have come to learn that you are much more than just a simple librarian. It’s no secret that we all have had a lot of…interesting events in our little town, and you’ve been there to experience it all with us. You’ve even caused some of said things. I still remember when the whole town randomly went nuts over some old and beat up doll! I was so confused and almost got trampled by ponies barreling through one another to get their hooves on that stuffed toy. It somehow even got Princess Celestia’s attention! I was a loss for words at the chaos, but I heard that a certain librarian was the cause of the mayhem… I have no idea what you planned to accomplish with that, but let’s just say that I’m glad I didn’t look at the doll like the others! While I’ll never know the real story behind that mess, I trust that your intentions meant well. That’s how I’ve always remembered you. All you want to do is help others, and you have proved it multiple times. The immediate example that comes to my mind was a couple of winters ago (it was also my first winter in Ponyville). During our Winter Wrap Up, I was assigned with plowing away the snow and helping the planters sort out the seeds. As you might know, the plant team fell way behind due to a unexpected avalanche and I will confess to getting rather discouraged because of that setback. Organization has always been a bit of a problem for me, so to see all of our prior work being cancelled out on top of everypony arguing, I got another nasty taste of that awful dysfunction I’ve come to know. I thought we were going to be in a lot of trouble, but you took hold of the reins and somehow brought order to everything. Your talent for organization turned everything around and I’m still amazed we were able to prepare everything in time for the first day of spring! That display of leadership really impressed me, and needless to say, I tip my hat to you for encouraging me to better myself. I could ramble on and on about Ponyville events you already know of, but I believe that I have said enough to make my point: you’re not perfect at all, but nopony is and nor should they ever expect you to be...princess or no. I can’t promise that every single pony is behind you, but I know in my gut that a noble soul like you is exactly the kind of leader Equestria needs. There is no reason for you to be nervous or have doubts about yourself; you’re absurdly smart and have such a kind heart that constantly inspires others. Twilight, we love you very much and give our thanks as well as our unending support. I see it in every Ponyville resident and especially your friends. They’re behind you every step of the way. Everypony here greatly cares about you and wants nothing more than to see you succeed. I may just pluck strings for a living, but I promise that you will be a wonderful new leader for Equestria that will guide us all to bigger and better things! Princess Celestia has every reason to be proud of you. Keep your head held high and may you fly even higher! -Three Strings P.S – Speaking of flying, you’ll have to forgive me for chuckling as I write this last part… The only real issue I see for you is dealing with your new wings! As beautiful as they are, you are no doubt at quite a disadvantage versus us pegasi! I’d love to see how you come along with your new ability, though.
