This is a quick oneshot I did for the "Hearth's and Hooves" group. I haven't had a chance to get artwork for it yet so, it has a picture of Starbloom. Hope y'all enjoy it.

Starbloom’s First Hearth’s Warming Eve

It was midwinter, the first year since Starbloom appeared in this world. She had adapted well, and made many new friends over the months. But she still had bad dreams of the day of the accident. Twilight had done her best to make her daughter feel better and told Starbloom not to blame herself.

“Starbloom, wake up it’s time for school.” Twilight spoke softly, softly nudging her daughter with her hoof to awaken the filly. “You don’t want to be late for the last day before break do you?”

Starbloom yawned softly sitting up rubbing her eyes with a hoof looking over at Twilight, “Mm… late?” Starbloom mumbled blinking a bit. “What time is it?”

“A little after six,” Twilight answered glancing at the bedside table. “I’m guessing you were up late last night reading?” She asked noticing the small candle and book.

Starbloom blushed softly nodding at Twilight, “Yea, it was a good book.” She said getting out of bed taking her headband off the post and put it on, adjusting it so the small crystal rested against the small gray patch of fur on her forehead.

“It’s titled Red Scarlet: Case of the Canterlot Thieves.” Twilight read the title while Starbloom made her bed with her magic. “That is a good detective story.” Twilight smiled as turning to leave the bedroom. “Breakfast is ready as soon as you are.”

“Alright mom, I’ll be down soon.” Starbloom said packing her saddlebags, she picked up a wrapped gift off the dresser and put it in her saddlebag, it was her Hearth’s Warming Eve gift for her class gift exchange.

With her saddlebags packed she headed to the bathroom and showered. Once cleaned, she brushed out her mane and tail. “Almost time to get my mane trimmed soon.” She mused, looking at herself in the mirror before heading downstairs, her saddlebags floating behind her.

She sat the saddlebags down by the door before going into the kitchen and took a seat at the table. Spike had a warm breakfast of hot oatmeal and honey and a mug of hot cocoa waiting for her. “This smells great Spike, thank you.” Starbloom complimented him smiling.

Spike smiled back at him, “Thank you Starbloom, I’m glad you think so.”

“Where’s mom?” Starbloom asked not seeing Twilight in the kitchen, she wasn’t in the library’s main hall either when she came down.

“She went out saying something about picking up something from Sugar Cube Corner.” Spike answered, cleaning the pan he used to make the oatmeal.

“Oh… alright.” Starbloom mumbled, she had hoped to see her before she went to school.

“Was there something important you wanted to tell her?” Spike asked looking concerned.

“No, I was just hoping to tell her goodbye before I left is all.” Starbloom answered taking a drink of her cocoa.

“I’m sure she would have been here if she had time.” Spike suggested smiling at her. “She has a pretty busy day today.”

“Yeah, your right Spike.” Starbloom agreed smiling back at him as she finished her breakfast getting to her hooves. “I’ll see you when I get back from school.”

“Alright Starbloom, have a good day at school.” Spike said waving at her as she left the kitchen cleaning up her dishes.

Starbloom got her saddlebags and put them on her back before opening the door, she shuddered at the cold breeze blowing through. She got her knit cap and pulled it on with her scarf before going out and making her way down the snow-covered streets towards the schoolhouse.

“Wow, the weather team went all out with the snow this time.” Starbloom thought out loud as she looked around, the snow was up to her knees but the wind wasn’t too bad, though the depth of the snow made progress a little slow.

When she made it to the school building, she went inside and shook the snow off of her legs in the entrance way before going into the classroom. She was lucky the first bell hadn’t rung yet. She went over to a table set up for presents for the gift exchange. She opened her saddlebag and took out the one she brought, placing it with the rest before going to sit down.

The first bell rang but Ms. Cheerilee didn’t show up yet, Starbloom started to wonder if she was going to be late and the rest of the class started to talk amongst themselves about what was keeping their teacher. After about five minutes Ms. Cheerilee came in smiling.

“Good Morning class, I’m sorry to keep you waiting. I have a special surprise for you all, since this is our last day together for a whole two weeks.” Ms. Cheerilee announced smiling before looking over at the doorway, “Come on in.”

Twilight, Spike, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Apple Jack, Filthy Rich and the other parents of the fillies and colts of the class came in as well as Pinkie Pie. Starbloom’s eyes went wide when she saw her mom. Now she knew why her mother left so early.

“We’re going to have a Hearth’s Warming Eve party here with your families. Pinkie Pie agreed to decorate for the party as well as bring some treats from Sugar Cube Corner. Of course you’ll be good fillies and colts and help move the desks so Pinkie can set up the party right?” Ms. Cheerilee asked, smiling at her students.

“Yes Ms. Cheerilee!” The students replied excitedly as they got up and started to move the desks to the walls of the room, the unicorns that could use magic stacking them neatly. All the ponies pitched in and got the classroom decorated for the party.

Some of the desks were used for tables to hold the treats and drinks, and once everything was ready the part was in underway. Starbloom went over to her mother and smiled. “Hi mom, I was wondering where you went this morning.” Starbloom said, looking up at Twilight.

“I know dear, Spike told me when I got back. He said you seemed a little upset.” Twilight said patting Starbloom’s shoulder softly. “I wanted to keep this a surprise though. Ms. Cheerilee and I set this up to make your first Hearth’s Warming Eve party special.”

Spike shrugged at Starbloom, “Sorry I didn’t tell you, but Twilight would have been upset if I told you what she was planning.”

Starbloom blushed softly and smiled at Twilight nodding softly. “It is special, thank you mom.” Starbloom said smiling at her before looking over at Spike nodding. “I understand Spike, thank you for not spoiling the surprise.”

“Go have fun with your friends dear.” Twilight said, ruffling her mane softly. “Sweetie Belle is singing carols.”

Starbloom smiled and followed Sweetie’s voice as she sang carols, wincing slightly. Sweetie Belle had a great voice for singing, when she practiced pitch control. But when she was excited, she let that slip and she squealed more than sang.

Spike climbed onto Twilight’s back, “Come on Twilight, let’s go party.” Spike said grinning and Twilight smiled as they went to join their friends and enjoy the party.
