Celestia smiled looking down at her younger sister and nuzzled her gently. Luna yawned and woke up, smiling. "Hey, Tia." Celestia smiled. "Come on, you don't want to be late for the Summer Solstice do you?" Celestia levitated her younger sister and placed her onto her back. This year the Summer Solstice would be held in Manehattan. She looked back at her passenger before taking off. Crowds of ponies cheered as Celestia made a grand entrance. The ponies gathered as their princess prepared to rise the Sun. They cheered once more as the Sun came up making it the longest day of the year. Luna couldn't help but smile, feeling proud for 'Tia.' --------------------------------------------- Once the day had passed, it was time to to raise the moon. Luna went over to the balcony and her horn began to glow. The filly closed her eyes and concentrated on raising the moon. Luna looked up and smiled. Her horn glowed once more to sprinkle some stars into the night. Soon, I'll be as good as Tia! The young princess thought. She looked down below the balcony. Most ponies were in bed and at home by now. Everything was quiet and peaceful. Luna smiled to herself and yawned. She walked back into the palace and into her room. She quietly climbed into her bed and made her self cozy. As soon as her head touched the pillow she snoozed off to sleep. --------------------------------------------- A few years had passed and as Luna got older she began to resent Celestia. She began to notice how most ponies adored Celestia, but what about her? The blue maned Alicorn paced around her room. She looked outside the window as her older sister raised the Sun. She shut the curtains and stomped a hoof. What was it about Celestia that made everyone love her? Didn't anyone care about Luna? The filly continued to pace back and forth in her room and didn't notice when a white Alicorn entered. "Hey sis." Celestia smiled. Luna slightly jumped back and turned around. "Oh. Hey, Tia..." Celestia frowned slightly. "I'm sorry....were you in the middle of something?" She asked. "No, it's fine." Luna responded. Celestia smiled. She began to tell her sister about something that had happened but Luna wan't paying much attention. She had drifted off her own thoughts. --------------------------------------------- Later that evening, both princesses were eating supper. Celestia frowned a bit as she faced her sister. "Luna? Are you even listening to me?" Celestia asked interrupting Luna's thoughts. Luna turned to her sister and stared at her blankly. "Hm?" Tia frowned. "Luna, I'm worried about you. Lately you've been acting strange and spacing out. Is everything alright?" "I'm fine. Besides it's not like you would care." "What do you mean by that?" Celestia asked. "It's- You wouldn't understand!" Luna stood and stormed off to her room. She lay on her bed pawing at the blanket and looking down at her pillow. The door creaked open and Celestia entered the room. "Luna. I'm sorry about earlier but I-" "Go away!" Luna yelled. "Luna, I-" "Just leave!" The white mare simply nodded as beads formed in the corner of her eyes. Celestia left the room, closing the door behind her. A tear slipped from the corner of Luna's eye. She yelled in frustration and threw a pillow across the room. She began to sob, her head buried under her hooves. She eventually drifted off to sleep and that's when the nightmares came. --------------------------------------------- Luna stood in the Everfree forest with a tall mare ,with a mane of stars, standing before her. The mare wore a blue helmet and smiled down at the young princess. In the dream it seemed as if the night had lasted forever. The mare soon flew off and in the distance to ponies could be seen fighting. The mysterious mare soon struck down it's opponent and she landed at Luna's hooves. Luna looked down at the pony the mare had stricken down and recognized her right away. Celestia. --------------------------------------------- The purple-blue filly woke up in cold sweat. She looked around and noticed that she was still in her room. It was just a dream... She thought. She climbed out of bed and washed up before heading towards the dining room. Both sisters ate their breakfast in silence. Once Luna had finished, she stood and headed over to the library. She wanted to study more about magic. Maybe if she got better, she would be greater than Celestia. --------------------------------------------- A few weeks had passed and Luna's magic grew stronger as well as her hatred towards Celestia. She spent day after day studying and practicing dark magic. Luna entered her room and levitated a blue helmet onto her head. As it was placed onto her head, her image flickered into a different mare. Her eyes were filled with hated and her mane flowed with stars. She turned as Celestia entered the room. “Hello, sister.” Luna smiled. “And you may no longer call me Luna but Nightmare Moon.” --------------------------------------------- The white Alicorn stood there in shock. She shook her head and looked at her sister. “Luna, what are you doing?” “What I should have done long ago.” Nightmare Moon’s horn began to glow and a blast of light shot towards Celestia. She managed to dodge the blow. “Why are you doing this?!” “Why? Why?!” Nightmare Moon yelled. “For years I was shunned under your reign but no more. Once I’m done with you all of Equestria will be mine and the night will last forever!” Another blast of light hurtled towards Celestia. She fell back and groaned. Celestia stood back up and faced her younger sister. She shot back but missed Nightmare Moon by inches. Nightmare Moon hovered over her sister and blaster another beam of light knocking her down. Nightmare Moon grinned looking down at her. Equestria would be hers. Once Celstia was defeated nopony would be able to stop her! “Luna…” Celestia croaked. “I don’t want to do this… I-I don’t want to fight you.” Nightmare Moon didn’t respond. She began to gather more magic than she ever had before. She aimed towards Celestia sending one last beam. As it was about to hit her, Celestia shot back. The beam of light sent her sister towards the moon and in a flash of white light she was gone. A ‘face’ of a pony had appeared in the moon. Celestia stared at the moon for a couple of seconds before a tear escaped from her eye. She sat down and more tears came streamed down. “Luna…I’m so sorry….” --------------------------------------------- A thousand years had passed since Luna was banished to the moon. Ever since then, Celestia had been ruling alone. She looked up at the sun. Soon Nightmare Moon would return. Tomorrow would be the Summer Solstice and she would be ready for her. A letter appeared in front of her, making her snap back to reality. A smile appeared on her face as she read the letter. She levitated a quill and scroll. She dipped the quill in some ink and began to write… “My dearest Twilight Sparkle..”
