Like Looking in a Mirror

On this moonlit night in Ponyville, only one light was on at this time of day. The light came from the edge of the Everfree Forest, in a small cottage where a yellow Pegasus was tending to some animals.

Fluttershy finished giving the mice a midnight snack, the last of the animals she needed to feed, and went to her bunny friend, Angel, who was asleep on the window sill. She reached for her little bunny friend, but at that moment Fluttershy heard what sounded like an explosion outside.

She pushed the front door of her cottage open, and saw what looked like an injured pony on the ground outside of her house. She rushed as fast as she could to the pony and tried to see who it was. The face was easily recognizable, she saw it every morning in the mirror. It was Fluttershy, but Fluttershy was standing above the pony, but that was Fluttershy as well, and there aren’t two Fluttershys, right? It isn’t possible.

Fluttershy, the awake one, picked up the unconscious Fluttershy and brought her inside to her bed, laying her down, and wondered what to do. Maybe she should call the police? They’d probably arrest them both. Report it to a hospital? No, they would probably try to dissect the other Fluttershy. Maybe Twilight had some answers? Definitely not, she was just ask many questions rapidly. The better choice was just to let her sleep and talk to her in the morning.

Fluttershy went down to her den room and crawled onto her couch, before laying down and closing her eyes.

The next morning, Fluttershy awoke from her deep slumber, her eyes meeting a similar pair of eyes staring back at her. Her twin had apparently woken up, and did she watch her sleep? That thought made Fluttershy feel weird, so she pushed it aside.

She opened her mouth to say something, but looked away, too shy to say anything. The other Fluttershy, though, had something in mind.

“Are you… me? Or am I you? And why am I not back at the hospital? I have patients that need tending too…”

Fluttershy looked up at the other… her… and finally found the courage to speak up.

“Well… I-I’m not sure…”

“Strange… I was just wrapping a Pegasus’s wing in a cast and the next thing I know I’m here…”

Fluttershy crawled off the couch and headed into her kitchen to begin preparing breakfast for her, her animals, and most likely the other her.

She turned on her stove and put eggs in a frying pan, moving to also prepare to make pancakes. After finishing all of that she gave all of her animals their breakfast and headed back inside to finish making hers.

Staring at each other, like looking into a mirror, they tried to wrap their heads around the fact that there was now two of them. Fluttershy moved to grab her fork, and so did the other Fluttershy. It was as if they were mimicking each other. Whatever Fluttershy did, the other one did the exact same thing. Fluttershy was beginning to get very uncomfortable seeing what was going on.

“So… you take care of animals,” questioned the new Fluttershy.

Fluttershy nodded, then looked under the table to see Angel looking back and forth between both Fluttershys, wondering who the real one was. The real Fluttershy called her little fuzzy friend over, but Angel just left the room, leaving a scared Pegasus, and a very curious one.

“So… You’re a doctor,” Fluttershy asked in a whisper that could almost barely be heard.

The other Fluttershy nodded happily, not shy at all.

“I take care of all those that get hurt, it’s a great job. My patients are fun too,” replied the winged doctor.

“Well… Since you’re a doctor… Can I just call you Doctor? If that’s ok with you,” Fluttershy replied.

New Fluttershy nodded, fine with the name so there was less confusion.

Fluttershy gave a smile, actually okay with this pony for once, since it was her as well, even if that was a bit scary.

Doctor stood up, and walked over to Fluttershy.

“Hey, why don’t we go find something to do? Your animals seem happy enough. Maybe we could go to the spa. You do have one in this world right?”

Fluttershy nodded slowly, but a thought stopped her nodding.

“But won’t it be weird… Seeing two of us walking together?”

Doctor thought about this for a second and sighed, realizing that this was a problem. A problem that could keep her from leaving the cottage and doing something to stretch her legs. She could probably take turns with Fluttershy, but she would have to learn to be shy like her. She would also have to learn to care very deeply about animals, just as much as she cares about her hospital patients. This isn’t going to be easy.

“So… What if I acted like you, and we took turns going out? That way I wouldn’t be cooped up in here,” Doctor asked.

Fluttershy looked at Doctor and pondered this, thinking this might actually work, if she really wanted it, that is. Fluttershy nodded, looking away.

“Ok,” she said quietly. This would be difficult to get her to be shy like her.

The shyness training was long and tedious, mainly because Fluttershy was unable to actually teach anything due to her own shyness. But after working through it, Doctor was able to act almost exactly like her counterpart. The training came with its bumps, but it also came with its perks.

Doctor approached Fluttershy after coming back from shopping with Fluttershy’s friends, who Doctor also became friends with.

“Hey, Fluttershy, can I ask you a question,” Doctor said to the shy yellow Pegasus who was putting a splint on the injured wing of a humming bird.

Fluttershy finished what she was doing and set the bird on a perch to rest, and turned to Doctor.

“Yes, what is it Doctor,” Fluttershy asked, a happy smile on her face, the sun shining through the window onto the cheerful yet shy mare, a sight which made Doctor blush tomato red from what she was about to say.

“Fluttershy, after all the time I’ve been in this world, have you felt anything… strange. You know, towards me,” Doctor asked, trying not to stutter and act like Fluttershy used to. She was used to talking with patients about their love life, but this, this was impossible. How could anypony tell their feelings easily?

“What do you mean,” Fluttershy asked, clueless to what Doctor was trying to ask. And the blush on Doctor’s face, was it warm in here? It didn’t feel like it. Fluttershy went and opened a window anyways though, just in case, the sunlight pouring over her, her yellow fur illuminated by the bright light of the golden orb in the sky, her mane blowing from the sudden breeze that came in through the open window, her wings stuck out to feel the wind under her soft feathers.

This scene amplified the yellow Pegasus’s radiance, and made Doctor’s blush grow.

“I-I mean… Do you… Do you have any… any feelings for me,” the blushing doctor asked.

Fluttershy whipped around, a blush on her face as well, taking in what Doctor had just asked her. Did Doctor actually like her like that? It couldn’t be. They were both mares, and even then, they were the same pony! Or were they? Fluttershy was still unsure about that part, and walked towards Doctor slowly, lowering her head, keeping quiet, reverting back to her original shy state. This was wrong in every sense. Even though there were no laws against it, it was still a bit weird.

“I was just wondering, b-because, well, um… I-I… You see,” Doctor stuttered out, trying to find the right words for this situation she had put herself in, this hole that she kept digging deeper and deeper.

Fluttershy put a hoof over Doctor’s lips, silencing her. This was very wrong, but at the same time, it felt right. Fluttershy was shy around all the other ponies, but this was herself. This is one of the only ponies she isn’t shy around, and could even be her first lover, even if she was a mare.

“Well… Maybe I do feel a little something… I guess the feeling could grow if given time,” Fluttershy said, causing Doctor’s heart to flutter like the butterflies on her cutie mark. Her voice was like a chorus of angel ponies. It had never sounded like that before, but Doctor couldn’t deny that she loved it.

“So… Would you like to watch the stars together some time,” Doctor asked, expecting a negative response from the beautiful mare in front of her.

Fluttershy nods, a smile on her face, and wraps her fore legs around Doctor’s neck in a hug. Doctor’s eyes were wide, her jaw open wider, this answer completely unexpected. It made her happy nonetheless, and she embraced Fluttershy in a hug as well.

Later that night, Fluttershy and Doctor went outside, bringing a large blanket with them. They spread it out across the ground, making sure the blanket wouldn’t fly away as they laid themselves down upon it, side by side, looking like clones.

The stars twinkled in the sky, their light and the light of the moon shining down on the twin bodies of the two marefriends. They examined the constellations, and held each other close, their fur brushing against each other, and their heads leaning inwards so they made contact, their eyes directed towards the sky which was painted with the glittering beauty of the night.

Doctor looked at Fluttershy, and gave her a quick peck on the cheek. Fluttershy blushed and looked at Doctor, but she gave her a smile, and embraced her in a long kiss, their tongues wrapping around each other.

The night dragged on with the two making out, before they both fell asleep in each other’s hooves, the moon slowly lowering as the sun rose, giving warmth to the sleeping Pegasi.

They woke up and headed back inside, preparing for another day of taking care of the animals. Fluttershy and Doctor never looked at each other the same way again. There was more love filled in their hearts, and every time they made eye contact, their breath was taken away from each other’s beauty.

Needless to say, their lives would never be the same again.
