> Scootaloo's Life > by Shimmering Honor > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Scootaloo's First Day > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ”What are you doing here Scootaloo?” asked Rainbow Dash, she was flying through Ghastly Gorge when she had seen the orange filly falling. She had swooped in and scooped in and plucked her from the sky. “I was training..” Scootaloo replied, pulling at the rope tied around her stomach. Rainbow looked at it and laughed. “You think you can learn to fly like that!” she rolled around laughing uncontrollably. Scootaloo just stared at her, eventually she managed to contain herself “Hows about this Scoots, I will train you, properly…” With that Scootaloo rushed forward and hugged Rainbow “Thankyouthankyouthankyou!” she said with pure excitement. Rainbow Dash slowly rolled over in bed the light burning through her eyelids and drawing her from her slumber, yet it wasn’t the sun that woke her. “Wake up Dash, we need to go!” Scootaloo was hovering above her head, she looked over the teenage Pegasus, she had grown alot since she came to live with Rainbow Dash, her wings were bigger and her cutie mark or a cloud with a purple streak cutting in front of it shone in the morning glow. It had been three years since the day Rainbow Dash interrupted Scoots training. She could now fly freely and was even starting to out run Rainbow Dash on the school runs. But today was different, Scootaloo was extremely excited. “Come on Sis, I have made breakfast already, come on, come on, come on, we are going to be late!” Scoot said as she flew out of the room. Rainbow slipped out of bed and slowly made her way to the kitchen, and sure enough, breakfast was made. It was a lovely spread of toast, hay fries, muffins and apple juice. Scootaloo was already sat down eating away, Rainbow walked over to her and kissed her on the forehead. “This looks lovely squirt.” Rainbow complimented her and sat down and started to eat, conversation was slow, but the mare sitting opposite Rainbow was too excited to talk much. Finally breakfast was finished and cleared away. “Go get your bags Scoot.” Rainbow instructed and an orange and purple streak flew through the house and up the stairs. Rainbow smiled and went up stairs herself, went into her room and changed into her uniform. She was the new Captain of the wonderbolts, it had been a year already, yet it felt strange to be on the other side of the desk. “I’m ready!” called Scootaloo from downstairs, Rainbow was still shocked at how quick she can get ready now that she could fly, she headed down to the lounge and sure enough Scootaloo was bouncing near the front door. Rainbow walked up to her and got her saddlebag of a hook and slung it over her back and opened the door, the two pegasi spread their wings and took off into the morning sky. The two mares took it slow to start off with, they both knew today was going to be exhausting on them both, if not more on Rainbow Dash, knowing the upcoming event was going to push Scootaloo to her limit, like it did her when she started, the memories still fresh in her mind. About half way through the journey Scootaloo spoke up. “Rainbow Dash, you know I call you sister at times?” she asked, a small tear forming in her eye. “Yes, and it warms my heart every time you do.” Rainbow replied, smiling over at the younger pegasus. “Well to be truthful, I see you more as a mother than a sister.” Scootaloo said abruptly, this caused Rainbow to stop flapping, and fall a small way before she regained her senses. “A mother? are you sure Squirt?” Rainbow asked, a tear forming in her eyes, she had always wanted a filly of her own, yet had never found the right colt to be with, and secretly, she often saw Scoot as a daughter than a sister. “Yeah, as you know I never knew my parents, and you showed me some much love and care, it felt wrong to call you sister, even though I kept at it.” She replied, looking over at Rainbow, they both had tears rolling off their faces, being blown off by the wind hitting their faces. “Scootaloo… I never knew….” Rainbow started but resorted to flying over to Scootaloo and giving her a very awkward inflight hug. When she let go she carried on speaking “I always saw you more of a daughter anyway… I always wanted to have a filly of my own, and then this awesome little filly came into my life, I just wanted to take her and claim her for my own… that filly was you Scootaloo, you showed me what it felt like to actually love someone more than I could a friend or a colt, you showed me what it was like to be a mother,” Rainbow said, the tears freely falling down her face, matting her coat and being whipped away by the wind. Scootaloo just stared at her, lost for words. “I never knew..” She started, but then looked forward, some cloud structures started to appear in the distance, both mares stopped and landed on a stray cloud. “Can we rest a minute, calm down before we get there, I am sure you don’t want to be seen crying.” Scootaloo forced a giggle and caused Rainbow to laugh a bit as well, they both sat down and let the crying stop, used the cloud to wipe away the tears and clean themselves up. Then they took off. “Race you.” Scootaloo said and shot off in an orange blur, Rainbow followed at top speed, causing a sonic rainboom. Scootaloo had stopped at the entrance when the rainbow shot over her, circled round and died out as Dash landed next to her, a cheer from the cadets filled the air. “Nice entrance Captain.” Scootaloo saluted and through the large gates. Her first day of Wonderbolt training had just started, and now Rainbow was her mother and her superior. > The Surprise an the Truth > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Well to be truthful, I see you more as a mother than a sister.” Scootaloo said abruptly, this caused Rainbow to stop flapping, and fall a small way before she regained her senses. “A mother? are you sure Squirt?” Rainbow asked, a tear forming in her eyes, she had always wanted a filly of her own, yet had never found the right colt to be with, and secretly, she often saw Scoot more as a daughter than a sister. “Yeah, as you know, I never knew my parents, and you showed me so much love and care it felt wrong to call you sister, even though I kept at it.” She replied, looking over at Rainbow, they both had tears rolling down their faces, being blown off by the wind. “Scootaloo… I never knew….” Rainbow started but resorted to flying over to Scootaloo and giving her a very awkward inflight hug. I just wanted to take her and claim her for my own… that filly was you Scootaloo, you showed me what it felt like to actually love someone more than I could a friend or a colt. You showed me what it was like to be a mother,” Rainbow said, the tears freely falling down her face, matting her coat and being whipped away by the wind. Scootaloo just stared at her, lost for words. The words had stayed in Rainbow Dash’s mind for the best part of a week, she couldn’t shake the feeling that she had to do something about it. But what? “I’ve got it!” she yelled to nopony in particular and rummaged through her desk, the office in the Wonderbolt Academy had everything, trophies, medals, posters. Anything to do with the wonderbolts was in that office. Rainbow soon found the paper and quills and wrote a very long letter. “THUNDER LANE!” She shouted, and the door burst open. “Yes ma’am!” Thunder Lane saluted. “Take this and post it.” She ordered and handed him the letter, he saluted and headed out the door. Scootaloo had known something was wrong, she had seen Derpy and Dinky flying to and from Rainbow’s office all week. Rainbow had also been acting differently, when at home she seemed distant. When at the academy she would stay in her office most of the time or would rush off as soon as either of the mail ponies arrived. They were both home, it was the weekend and the Rainbow had given everypony some time off. “Rainbow, is everything okay?” Scootaloo asked. “Err…” Came the reply. “Dash, what's going on?” Scootaloo asked starting to get scared. “You will find out soon enough Squirt.” Dash said and headed upstairs. “Thank you Derpy, you don’t know how long I have been waiting for this letter.” Rainbow said excitedly, she tore the envelope open and took out the letter inside. “YESYESYEYSYESYESYES!!!!” She shouted. “What’s so good Rainbow?” Derpy asked. “I’ve done it, She’s mine now!” Rainbow said excitedly, and held the letter close to her heart. “Who is your’s?” Came a new voice. Rainbow and Derpy looked around, standing in the door was Spitfire, her yellow coat shining and her mane was spiked as always. “Spitfire, err..what brings you back here?” Rainbow asked, she quickly placed the letters in her desk. “I should go…” Derpy said and left the room, Spitfire closed the door. “How is being captain?” she asked Dash. “Alright, I love the shows and the fame, the academy can get a little boring.” the cyan mare replied. “So what can I do for you?” “Well I am actually here to talk to one of the cadets.” Spitfire said nervously and rubbed the back of her head with a hoof. “About what?” Rainbow asked. “I believe this one is my foal…” Spitfire blushed and looked down at the floor. “Who… what?” Rainbow asked when a knock rang out from the door. Rainbow walked over and opened the door, Scootaloo was outside. “Cadet Scootaloo, what is the matter?” Rainbow said professionally. “Errr...well ma’am, I was wishing to talk to you in private.” Scootaloo replied. “Let her in Dash.” Spitfire spoke up and Rainbow stood to the side. Scootaloo walked in and looked confused, Spitfire was blushing at her and Rainbow looked flustered. “Ma’am’s what’s going on?” Scootaloo asked. “Well…” Both older mares started. “You first Dash.” Spitfire said and stepped back to emphasize her point. “Well Scoot…I...err, I have adopted you…” She pulled out the papers from the desk and handed the adoption certificate to Scootaloo. She looked at it and the accompanying letter. Dear Miss Dash, I would like to congratulate you. Your application to adopt one Scootaloo was a success. As of the date of receiving this letter, you and any future partners will be held responsible for her and her welfare…. Scootaloo dropped the letter. “Mo...Mo….MOM!!” She ran forward and threw herself around Dash, she broke down into tears and muzzled into Rainbow’s chest. “Adopted her?” Spitfire looked shocked. “Yeah, shes an orphan.” Said Rainbow, Scoot still crying as she patted her neck. “Well, Scootaloo is the one I came to see in fact.” Spitfire said, blushing even more. “What!” Scootaloo was more surprised, an ex-Wonderbolt wanting to see her. “Well, you see… I am her real mother.” Spitfire said, tears welling in her eyes. “My real mom?” Scootaloo didn’t know what to do, here was Rainbow Dash, her idol, adopting her and now her so called ‘real mom’ had stepped out of the shadows. “WHY...WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME!!!” Scootaloo screamed, Spitfire reeled back in shock. “I...I...I never meant to… I… I lost you, I have been looking for so long.” Spitfire sat down on the ground and started to cry… Spitfire was walking along Cloudsdale, her newborn foal tied to her back. “You okay up there Scootaloo?” She asked, a little yawn replied followed by light snoring. “Mommy loves you Scoots.” Spitfire said and looked around and kissed Scootaloo’s forehead. “Stop right there Miss!” Came a demanding voice… Spit looked around to see who it was, she felt a gust of wind and a tug on the straps on her chest, she spun around and nothing was there… she looked around frantically trying to find who had told her to stop. But nothing. “Who’s there?!” She shouted, but no reply. “Must have been my imagination.” And she looked around to check Scootaloo. “Scootaloo….Scootaloo...Where...wher…..WHERE’S MY SCOOTALOO!!!!” Spitfire screamed as her back was bare, Scootaloo had vanished. “Thats what happened Scootaloo, I swear, I never forgot that day… I cried so much.” Spitfire finished in a heap on the floor, a large pool of tears covered the floor. “So… I was foalnapped?” Scootaloo asked, shocked and upset. “Yes baby, yes you were, I searched and searched and after five years, I couldn’t afford it, so I started doing little stunt shows to get some money… then I was asked to join the Wonderbolts. I Planned to save up every single bit I could and would get myself a very good Private detective...so I spent the last year looking for you… only to find out you had become a Wonderbolt.” Spitfire finished. Scootaloo walked over to Spitfire. “I am sorry for being mad at you, when I was in the orphanage, I never understood why anypony would abandon their foal… now I know why I was there.” Scootaloo said bravely, trying not to cry. “So, does this mean that you want her back?” Asked Rainbow Dash, Spitfire looked up and saw the fear in Scootaloo’s eyes, fear she could lose her idol or her real mother. “Thats up to Scootaloo.” Spitfire answered, Scootaloo looked between the two mares in front of her. Her mind racing with thoughts. “I….err...I….” > Confusion before the Decision > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “So, does this mean that you want her back?” Asked Rainbow Dash, Spitfire looked up and saw the fear in Scootaloo’s eyes, fear she could lose her idol or her real mother. “Thats up to Scootaloo.” Spitfire answered, Scootaloo looked between the two mares in front of her. Her mind racing with thoughts. “I…err...I…” Spitfire and Rainbow Dash stared at the door. Scootaloo had screamed something and ran out of the room. Spitfire started to go after her. “No, she needs to be alone right now.” Rainbow stopped her. “But she’s my daughter!” Spitfire almost screamed. “Then wait till she comes back. Trust me, she needs time to think.” Rainbow said. She knew going after her would cause more trouble as she had done it numerous times herself. Scootaloo ran out of the building and into the air, her wings flapping harder than ever before. She flew as fast as she could in a random direction, too upset to care where she went. Why? Why now? After I finally have what I want, she shows up… Scootaloo was going faster and faster, a small cone of air starting to form in front of her. Why do I have to choose? Why in Celestia’s name do I have to decide between Rainbow and Spitfire? The cone increased in size, Scootaloo had no idea how fast she was going. Her mind was racing with thoughts, time spent with Rainbow Dash. Her idol, her hero, her sister, and now her adoptive mother. How could she turn away from the only one who showed her love and affection for the past three years? But then how could she turn her back on her real mother? The cone got increasingly larger, Scootaloo was shook from her sense as an outstanding explosion ringed in her ears. She looked back to see a purple and orange shockwave rippling out from behind her, and a purple streak trailing behind her. Rainbow Dash and Spitfire both sat on the edge of a cloud just outside the academy. Neither wanted to talk, or be distracted from their thoughts. “Do you think she will be alright?” Asked Spitfire. “I know Scoot, she will be upset and confused. We just have to give her time.” Rainbow said, a tear rolling down her cheek. She knew what was going to happen, and she feared it. BOOM!!!! Both mares looked up and saw the purple and orange shockwave. “A Sonic Rainboom!” Both mares said, seeing the purple trail. They looked at each other and shot off after it. Scootaloo was so excited, she had done the one thing everypony thought only Rainbow Dash could do. She had accomplished the Rainboom! “OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOMYGOSH!” She squealed as she started to slow down. She landed on a cloud, buzzing with adrenaline. “SCOOTALOO!!” Came two familiar voices. She looked around to see Rainbow Dash and Spitfire flying towards her. She suddenly remembered why she was flying so fast in the first place. As the two mares landed, they both stared at the young Pegasus in disbelief. “Well done squirt.” Rainbow said first, trotting over and rubbing Scoots mane. “Sweetie, that was amazing” Spitfire said attempting to hug Scootaloo, who backed away. “Leave me alone, please.” She said to Spitfire. “I need time to think, I have an idea.. just give me a bit of time, please?” She said and flew off again. It had been three days since Scootaloo had flown off, Rainbow Dash and Spitfire had gone out looking for her. Rainbow had spoken to everypony she knew. But was relieved to find out she was at Sweet Apple Acres, staying with Apple Bloom and AppleJack. It made Rainbow feel relieved that she was at least safe. Spitfire on the other hoof, had questioned Rainbow about the Apple family. “Scoots will be fine.” Dash assured Spitfire, who was pacing the cyan mare’s living room. “I know, I am just worried. I finally meet her and she runs away from me.” Spit replied, her heart heavy and her head ached. Even though Rainbow had let her stay at her house in the sky, Spitfire hadn’t slept right for the past few nights. She had nightmares about the time that Scootaloo was taken from her, and how she must have been treated. She awoke the same time every night in a cold sweat. “Spitfire, AppleJack is the element of honesty, if she said Scootaloo is fine, Scootaloo is fine!” Rainbow said, starting to get annoyed. Meanwhile, Scootaloo was pacing in the barn at Sweet Apple Acres. “Com’on Scootaloo, Ya can’t be mad at ‘em for too long.” AppleBloom tried to tell Scootaloo, but she wasn’t listening, mumbling about what to do. “AppleBloom, Scootaloo, come an get yer dinner!” Shouted AppleJack from the kitchen. “Come on Scootaloo, we gotta go in now.” But Scootaloo was still pacing back and forth. “Scootaloo!” AppleBloom Shouted. Scootaloo looked up. “You say something AB?” She asked. AppleBloom stared at her. “Dinner.” She said and walked out and over to the house. Scootaloo followed. Soon Scootaloo’s stomach was full with all sorts of amazing apple based products. “Why did I eat sooo much?” She asked herself as she closed the door to the guest room. She flopped down on to the bed, and started to think of Rainbow Dash. Tears formed in her eyes, then the thoughts turned to Spitfire, her real mother. How she had explained what had happened to Scootaloo, and how she had simply disappeared. This made Scootaloo start to cry, she tried and tried to hold back the tears, but to no avail. As the first salty water droplet ran its way down her cheek, the mental dam broke apart and a flood of tears streamed down her face. She cried and cried, her orange fur becoming matted and heavy. “I can’t do it, why do I have to choose… How can I choose betwe…” She stopped. “I got it!” She grabbed ahold of a quill and some paper, and wrote down some plans. “I will do this tomorrow, after some sleep.” She yawned and flopped back onto the bed, her eyes closed before she hit the pillow. The next day, Scootaloo never showed up to breakfast with the Apple Family. She had flown out of the window, and had headed straight for Dash’s home, her home. When she got there she was about to open the door when something made her stop. “Do you remember the times we had together deary, all the laughs and fun we had, and don’t get me started on the ‘bed’ time we had.” Came Spitfires voice. “Oh I sure do Spits, they were a could couple of year, Wonderbolts, Training Scoots and dating you. I don’t know how I kept our little fling a secret from her.” Her little heart would have exploded if she ever found out.” Rainbow Dash replied. Scootaloo had heard enough, she burst into the house, yet not through the door, but the wall. “You were doing what behind my back?” Scootaloo asked angrily….
