Researching for school exams feels strange after you’ve spent a week burning facts and histories into your mind. The last time I tried to read anything for fun was months ago, Applebuck insisted he and I help Sweepy Bell with some magic. I hated reading, losing myself and my problems in all those fictional worlds just seemed so... boring. It might have also been the lack of motivation, I could have stayed behind and went out on my scooter, ya'know, having fun! But I got to spend the weekend with my friends and my hero, Rainbow Blitz!

And to me, that's way better.

I remember the carriage ride into the woods, it was a smooth enough ride, there was occasional dips and rises in the path as we travelled into the more deeply wooded area of Winsome Falls. The last time I was up there with the guys, we were only colts looking for a purpose, and we thought that our purpose was camping cutie marks. I’ve never really gone camping since then. It always just sort of seemed boring to me. Rainbow Blitz had suggested I bring something to read to keep myself busy while we rode in the carriage. Turns out he’d only been pulling my wing, I think he thinks I'm depressed. I'm not depressed, just...bored, I hope. I guess that's what a depressed pony would say, huh?

Even though the carriage ride was relatively quiet, Applebuck mumbled something to Sweepy about our exams while he drew another card from the deck on the seat between them. Rainbow Blitz, who I invited, was fast asleep next to me with his head cocked back in his pillow, he drooled while he snored quietly. I smiled as I looked back to the window.

Every so often, when I looked out the window and watched the scenery, I saw passing trees. Unlike the others I overheard chatting, I was not worried at all about the outcome of my exams, I'm going to be the next Wonderbolt after all!

Rainbow stirred a bit, clearing his throat. He was wearing his trademark sunglasses, it was hard to tell if he is really sleeping or actually awake. I know he left them on purposefully, just to keep me guessing, more games we enjoy with each other I suppose.

Every few weeks, I'm reminded of just how lonely Rainbow must feel. Sweepy Bell once told me that he overheard his brother arguing with Rainbow about something to do with a new suit Elusive was making. But they always bicker so we all ignored it. I like Rainbow when he gets mad, the determination in his eyes. It's going to sound weird, but I think it's really really sexy? Like when he taught me how to fly, his strong flanks so close within my reach...

Uh... Anyway.

I heard a little laughter from the seat in front, Applebuck and Sweepy Bell were playing a game of go fish. Sweepy Bell squinted his eyes and peered at his cards before asking if Applebuck had any sevens, he simply responded, "Go fish!"

Sitting in front of them was Gold Watch and Blue Chip, the both of them were hanging over the back of the seat, paying attention to the game. Anypony who is remotely familiar with Blue Chip knows that he and Gold Watch used to be big bullies, and you can trust me on that one. They were total dicks back when we were colts, but they changed when we all got our cutie mark. Typical.

Blue Chip caught me staring at him and he smiled at me? Alright whatever.

"Hey look, a bear!" Gold Watch's voice got every ponies attention.

"Rainbow," I hissed. "look outside." I said as I nudged his side.

He stirred to consciousness and snorted loudly. "What?! Are we there?" he said as he leaned over me, staring out the window. "Ever seen one of those before, Squirt?" he rasped.

"Only once, Butterscotch introduced me to one when I was young." I answered.

"Well, I hope you’re not afraid of bears, because there's plenty of 'em up the hills, looking for a tasty snack!" he winked at me for the last part.

"Well, they never came near the campsite the first we went camping together" I retorted.

He lowered his sunglasses and peeked over the top, the smug expression is all I saw.

"Dude, you don’t expect us to stay on the beaten path do you?" he wiggled his eyebrows menacingly.

*****

"Why do we have to do this," Gold Watch exclaimed, balancing the small cooler on his back. "you guys are slave drivers." he shot a dirty look at Applebuck

Sweepy laughed.

"Just up this hill, we promise." Sweepy yelled over his shoulder.

"Come on y'all," Applebuck added in, "where’s your sense of adventure?"

"When can we stop and rest? Adventure is tiring." Gold complained, as usual.

"You spoiled brat! You expect us to believe you'd rather be at home bored out of your brains instead of spending time with me?" Blue winked at him.

Although I hated to admit it, Gold was right, I wish we had stopped and caught our breaths. I felt like stopping for any reason to be honest.

"Alright lads! We'll stop here and take a short rest." Rainbow exclaimed.

In front of us Sweepy turned around and smiled brightly at Blue Chip and I, Gold dropped to his rump at the first chance. "FINALLY!"

Blue paced a bit more closely to me and leaned in, lowering his voice conspiratorially. "So… any reason you're getting wingboners up the wazoo?"

I shrugged at him. "I have no idea what you're talking about Blue."

He whistled. "Come on dude, every time I catch a glance at you, you're staring at Rainbow's flanks."

I gave him a dirty look and he raised his eyebrows with an innocent expression. "What? It's true isn't it, you have a total hard-on for him don't you?" he whispered.

"Maybe." I said.

"Alright! Let's get going!" Rainbow shouted. I heard a loud groan of complaint come from Gold Watch.

*****

After almost forty minutes, we arrived at our campsite in a nice, secluded forest clearing. In the middle of the clearing was a fire pit with a small pile of wood, and a woodcutting axe. The trees were tall enough that the only thing visible other than them was the mountains and the hills off in the distance.

"Alright, we have got a few hours before it gets dark, Applebuck? Did you still want to try your hoof at fishing?" Rainbow asked. Applebuck nodded in agreement.

"Sweet, we'll set up the tents and head out."

With Rainbows help, I had managed to put up our tent, I wasn't sure if it was fated or cruel temptation that we were bunking.

"Sorry squirt, I guess we're stuck with the small tent." Rainbow said, rubbing the back of his neck with a hoof. "Princess over there wanted the big one, Sorry." he pointed his hoof at Gold Watch.

"It's okay, I guess we'll just have to snuggle up close." Before I realised it, I blushed about what I said, luckily Rainbow Blitz played no attention to it.

He and I took advantage of the large space for a quick game of pegasus frisbee while Applebuck and Sweepy, walked uphill to fill up our water jug for our canteens, Gold Watch and Blue Chip argued over who's fault it was that their tent collapsed... again.

Before I knew it, the side of my head was struck with the frisbee and it fell to the ground below us.

"Are you having fun yet?" Rainbow shouted as he stopped flapping his wings and landed on the ground. I couldn't tell if he was joking or not and give him a smug look as I landed on the ground.

"Dude?"

"Huh?"

"You zoned out, are you feeling ok?" he raised his eyebrow at me.

"Yeah... fine, I just got distracted is all." I lied.

"Well, there’s plenty to do. There’s a big lake where we can swim in?"

"No, I actually feel really tired."

"Tired?! That's no excuse! What if there's a bear? And we get attacked?! 'Go on without me Blitz, I have to stop and take a nap!'" I laughed at his imitation of me as he dropped to the ground and snored loudly.

"Hey, bears are no joke!" I retorted.

He lunged to his hooves and gave me a wry grin.

"The camp site is secluded," he said. "I haven’t seen a single pony other than us since we arrived. Kind of dangerous." he leaned over and whispered the last part into my ear.

Blitz laughed and pulled me closer, nudging me with his shoulder. "Kidding! Haha! Chill out dude! Let's go swimming."

*****

As we walked back to our camp site, I looked down at my hooves, they were still dripping with water. My hunger had indicated what time it was. Don't get me wrong, all of us had a nice breakfast, but that was hours before we went swimming.

Upon our return, Applebuck already prepared lunch. Meanwhile, Gold Watch ranted about his fancy pants restaurant meals as I tried to resist from punching him in the face. Blitz grinned at me, he knew I wanted to.

I’m not sure what Sweepy likes about those guys, or how he had became friends with them in the first place, especially after all the crap we put up with when we were young. I don't mind, as long as my friends were having fun.

I’d be lying if I said I didn't have fun also. Being outside of school and spending the weekend out there, with Rainbow Blitz THE Wonderbolt, was the very definition of AWESOME.

After lunch, the six of us had decided to take the hiking trail that leads higher up Winsome Falls.

And more complaining from from Gold Watch, as usual.

After some time Blitz stopped us and pointed at a tree, hushing us loudly.

"What is -hmff-" Gold's muzzle was silenced as Blitz jammed his hoof in it.

Sweepy prodded my side and pointed to a spot just ahead of us, where a pair of hog monkeys were wrestling. I gasped at the sight, Blitz was amused.

"Surely you have seen hog monkeys before?" Sweepy asked.

"Nope, never." I replied.

"Imagine if Butterscotch was here, he'd have a field day." he lowered his voice.

I shrugged at him. "It's just wildlife, I'm sure he's seen most of it."

"Don’t worry," he said. "If there's a swarm of squirrel toads, Butterscotch would be here in a heartbeat."

We continued to stare for a few moments, before hearing a loud roar. "Uh... what was that?" Sweepy said.

"Isn't it obvious? It's Scooteroll's stomach, haha!" Applebuck laughed.

"Shhh!" Rainbow hissed. "It's a bear."

"A bea-mmf-" Gold Watch was silenced once again by another hoof.

"I said shhh!" he hissed.

Applebuck leaned down and picked up a large stone next to his hooves. I tried stop him at the last moment, but before I could reach him, he threw it in the bears direction, it crashed down onto the huge mossy trunk at the bears feet.

"Do you have a death wish?" Rainbow hissed.

"Really, dude," I said quietly, "don’t do that. You'll get us killed."

Another loud roar echoed throughout the forest. Yep, a second bear.

"Come on, let’s go back to the camp." Rainbow whispered. "And be quiet."

The bears turned towards us, I felt my pulse accelerate. The words 'Run or be dinner.' had ran through my head. I raised my hooves, ready to dart away at a moments notice. I stood perfectly still, waiting for instructions from Rainbow.

"Over there!" Rainbow pointed to a clearing that was behind us. All of us follow his instructions and slowly walked over, when we passed into the grassy clearing the two bears turned and went away.

"That was so cool!" Applebuck shouted after a few moments.

Camping under the stars, in a tent

So a lot happened on that camping trip, and I got to say, I loved every second. Even the part where Applebuck almost made all of us those bears' afternoon snack.

Not a single word was spoken on the trip back to the campsite, Applebuck would speak up every once in a while about how he was sorry about the bear incident, but we all ignored him. He needed to learn a lesson, Rainbow had said he was going to have a talk to him later.

"Look y'all, I said ah'm sorry." Applebuck huffed as he went ignored, he shuffled in place as he sat on the log surrounding the fire pit.

"We know you didn't mean it Applebuck. It's just I can't believe you didn't think about the consequences." Blitz spoke up. "I mean think about it, do you think I want to go back to Ponyville and tell Applejack that his younger brother got mauled to death and eaten by a bear?"

Applebuck's facial expression was somewhere between nervous and horrified.

My skin tingled as well, Applebuck looked at me with worry in his eyes.

"Come on Rainbow Blitz, I'm sure that's not what would have happened. We would have been fine" I said.

"Are you bananas?!" Rainbow zipped to my side and practically crushed me in a gripping hug. "I'd be lost if you ever got eaten by a wild bear!"

"Really?" I struggled to say as he crushed me.

"Yes really!" Rainbow Blitz let go and looked into my eyes.

I took a few deep breaths, not sure what to expect. Rainbow's voice quavered before he spoke again.

"I never want to lose you, Squirt."

"I know that." I said.

"You don’t know that half of it, ever since I became your... like... adoptive brother, I felt like I had a family for the first time in years."

I grasped his hooves with mine as he hugged me and looked into his eyes. He had a submissive gaze, it was almost hypnotic. I had felt a lump in my throat, it was a strange feeling, like feeling guilty but excited at the same time. I remember my heart was pounding in my chest.

"Alright, I'm going to catch a few zeds," Rainbow announced. "Don't stay up too late kids." he said as he faked a yawn.

"We're not foals anymore!" Applebuck cried out.

"Can it Applebuck, I'm still furious with you. We'll talk tomorrow morning." he said as he opened our tent and stepped inside.

"Yeah I'm gonna hit the hay also." I had excused myself. Blue Chip had given me the creepiest wink as I walked toward mine and Rainbow's tent.

"Rainbow, are you real...mphf!" I didn't know what to do, the second I stepped into the tent he put his hooves on my shoulders and pulled me towards him.

He had kissed me on the lips. And the next moment...

It was as if my hooves had a mind of their own, I placed my hooves around his waist and pulled him towards me, not breaking the kiss. I almost went limp as I embraced him, hugging tighter around his midriff and squeezing more tightly. He broke the kiss and exhaled through his nose with a soft mewling.

He was crying, I had seen the tears running down his cheeks.

"Sorry Squirt, I shouldn't have done that." he avoided looking into my eyes and stared at his sleeping bag.

"We should go to slee...Squirt?"

What I did then, what that meant for us, I had no clue.

With renewed vigour, I launched at him. Maybe, at the time, there had been a part of my brain brain that was emotionally stronger.

I kissed him back...

The blood coursing through me felt great, but nervous at the same time, it caused me to sweat and tremble. And then, he pulled away from me.

"Wait," his breathing went heavy for a moment, and then he leaned in and kissed me again.

And pulled away again...

"No, Scooteroll, we shouldn't be doing this. I'm practically your older brother!" he hissed.

I didn't think it was fear or nervousness I was feeling. I knew it was that other feeling, the bliss of euphoria.

He looked as though he was about to say something again, but I didn't give him the chance, I leaned forward and kissed him again. Naturally, he complied, with his enthusiasm built up. Before I knew it, I was on my back as his hooves swept up my body, sending tingles down every nerve of my body.

We were in total solitude. Well... as much solitude as a small cramped camping tent could give.

He pulled away and smiled at me, the only sound I could hear was my heart beat. I had been surprised there was still blood left in my body to fill my blushing cheeks, it was really embarrassing, but I could tell that Rainbow knew about our growing lengths snaked between our bellies.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" he had whispered to me.

"Don't ask stupid questions, I want this just as much as you do."

His lips. His vivid pink eyes, staring at me passionately. Oh... what a night, sometimes when I concentrate back to that night, I can still feel him inside me, holding me close and slowly thrust... well, you get the idea.

I had rolled over to face him and rested my head on his shoulder, snuggled close to him. Damn, he was so so sexy.

"Yes?"

"I've never felt anything like that before." I exhaled softly.

"Give it a few hours, you might be sore in the morning." he smiled.

"I don't care, you are worth it." I had replied.

***

It's a strange feeling waking up in an unfamiliar place, there's a moment where you have to remember where you are. Waking up that morning, I had that feeling. I'm just glad I wasn't alone, there was a soft warm cerulean hoof wrapped around my torso. I pulled it closer and snuggled into to Rainbow lying behind me. I still could not believe if I was dreaming or not, specifically because of the fact that a bear almost mauled us the day before. About halfway through my euphoric daydream I heard a muffled voice from outside, It was Applebuck.

"Come on Scoots, time to get up. What would th' Wonderbolts say if they saw you sleeping in this late?" Applebuck stood at the entrance to our tiny tent, I could hear the zipper.

"I'd say I got my exercise last night." I was awarded a soft snicker from Rainbow Blitz lying next to me.

"Oh- uh, sorry I didn't mean to interrupt." Applebuck stood awkwardly in front of us.

"You were awake the whole time?!" I nudged Rainbow harshly.

"Sorry Squirt, I couldn't help it, you're so warm." he beamed.

"Jeez..." I flung his arm off me and sat up to face Applebuck. "I know what this looks like, but before you go nuts, I'd just like to remind you; we are both consenting adults and-"

"Scoot, ah' really don't care. Jus' wanted to let you know it's almost noon thirty." he had said, "Sweep followed Gold and Blue to the lake, those two are up to something."

"Alright, I'm up. What are we doing today anyway?" I said as Applebuck and I walked out of the tent and towards the long dead campfire in the middle of our campsite.

"Well, considering you slept in so late, we've only got half the afternoon left to have any fun before we go back to Ponyville."

"Fun?! Who needs fun?" A voice from behind us called, it was Rainbow. "We had plenty of fun las-"

"Stop. Could you please just... not? Thanks." Applebuck had stopped Rainbow from speaking another word.

"Okay, fine. What do you want to do for the rest of the afternoon, Applebuck?" Rainbow said.

"Can we go swimming?" Applebuck asked. "There's a lake that connects to the river where we were fishing in, Blue, Gold and Sweeps are already there."

My mind flashed back to the last time I tried swimming with my friends, I think there was splashing and a lost kitten. It turns out, that the kitten was a baby manticore. I gotta say I didn't see that one coming. Boy oh boy, what an adventure that afternoon was.

"Are you sure that's a good idea? Remember what happened last time we went swimming?" I said to him.

"Uh..." Applebuck gave a weary smile "Yeah, Ah' guess you're right. But, what are the odds of that happening again?"

"And what were the odds the first time?" I snickered.

"Alright! I guess we can squeeze in some swimming, right Squirt?" Rainbow Blitz leaned down and licked me on my cheek.

"Blec... I'll meet you two at the lake with Sweeps and th' other two." Applebuck turned and trotted off towards his own tent that he shared with Sweepy Bell.

"Blitz, cut it out. You scared Applebuck off." I pushed his muzzle away from mine, I had done some stretches and flapped my wings, ready for what little of the afternoon we had left for swimming.

"Alright, swimming it is. A good chance to clean all this sweat out of my fur." Rainbow Blitz was behind me, zipping up our tent. "Wanna race?" he had asked me.

"You're on!" I spread my wings and took off.

"Trying to win a race against a Wonderbolt?! I think that orgasm last night melted your brain Squirt!" his voice grew louder as a rainbow blur flew by me.

"Show off!" I retorted as I sped up to follow him.

***

Shortly after, we both arrived at the lake. It was probably a good idea that Rainbow Blitz took the lead, I honestly did not even know where the lake was. I had seen the river during our hike up to the camping area, but didn't bother remembering its exact location. Applebuck and Sweepy were already in the water, splashing around the water and soaking each other. Blue Chip had a conditioner bottle in his teeth, he squeezed it out onto Gold Watch's back. Gold Watch was lying down on a towel on his stomach, enjoying the afternoon sun. Blue Chip rubbed the conditioner into his friends fur, there was a big grin on Blue's face. Something told me that he was enjoying it more than Gold Watch was.

"It's about time you two lovebirds made it!" Applebuck shouted from the water.

"Lovebirds?" Sweepy Bell asked him.

"Long story." he replied.

"Get ready to get wet!" Rainbow shouted as he dropped from the sky and tucked in his legs. "CANNONBALL!"

And that was my awesome camping trip, we only had about an hour of swimming before we had to go back to Ponyville but we still had enjoyed ourselves. If I was depressed, it all ended after that day. It felt like going back in time to when we were colts, when we weren't in school, we were out causing havoc. I have the best friends I could ever want, school is over, and...

I feel happy once again.
