What if history hadn't recorded the NightmareMoon incident quite right? What if Luna hadn't turned into the Nightmare because jealousy? What if had been to save her sister? This is a short story to help me procrastinate with my other one.

What if history hadn't recorded the Nightmare Moon incident quite right? What if Luna had turned out of love rather than jealousy? This is a short story to help me not feel bad about procrastinating with my other story (which you should check out as soon as you are done with this one).

And by the way, if any of you cared to look, Celestia's hind legs are missing in my cover photo.

The letter

Twilight sat down on a chair. "Spike, take a letter." She said.

"Dear Princess Celestia,

I cannot express my joy at becoming an Alicorn Princess of Equestria! I must also deeply thank you for letting me keep Star Swirl the bearded's journal. I was looking through Star Swirl'a entries, and I found a few interesting sentences. They read: "My dear, dear students. The elder one in the castle, the youngest lost. I fear for the sanity of the younger and the elder alike. Sweet, sweet Luna, in saving her sister from the dark fate, she took the form of a Nightmare. Poor Luna." The next entry explained a little bit. This entry read: "Cow Crap! Did I really write that? I wasn't to tell anypony about that! That is the last time I go drink! Dear reader, I assure you, the events I mentioned are long over. Do not worry about what you have just read. Simply enjoy your life under the rule of the Kind and Gracious Princess Celestia, the bringer of Day, and Night, and Nightmare. Crap! Ignore that last bit of that sentence! It is irrelevant. I simply meant that wih night comes nightmares!" That was the end of that entry.

What, my mentor, did these strange entries mean? What evil did Luna save you from? What did he mean you brought Nightmare. After I examined the book, I discovered why he did not erase his mistakes. The spell to stop any damage to the book/ writing was put over it. Why, dear Celestia, did h fear your sanity? He knew you would see our sister again. And why was none of this put in history books?

I, as always, await your reply.

Your student,

Princess Twilight Sparkle."

Twilight finished the talking and watched as Spike finished the last few lines.

"And…done!" He said cheerfully. He then blew fire over the parchment and watched as it flew away to the Princess of the Sun.

One Sister's Tears Are The Other's Joy

Celestia sighed as memories of 1000 years ago entered her mind. One memory in particular she didn't want to dwell on. The day the she, ruler of Equestria, became weak.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Tia! It's time!" Said the bubbly Luna.

"Already?" Celestia replied with a sigh.she hung her head low.

"Tia…are you alright?" The younger sister asked. Her ears were laid back against her head in worry.

"Just fine! Lets just go do this!" The elder of the two snapped rudely.

"Oh, okay." Luna's voice had lost some of its cheer, but not all of it.

The two sisters walked across the castle to one of the towers overlooking Equestria. Twilight Tower was its name. It was fitting too, for this was where the sisters raised the sun and moon.

"Ok, Tia! Your turn!" Bubbly Luna declared. Sweet Luna was not but a filly at the time. Though she was at least 100 years old, she had matured much slower than even Celestia did, meaning she was like a filly most of the time.

Tia's glare would have made stone-discord flinch, but Luna was too excited to notice. Tia reluctantly lowered the sun. Her expression turned even more depressed as the sun disappeared.

"Alright, little miss bubbles, your turn." Celestia said rudely. She groaned as Luna took her time organizing the night sky. A month ago Celestia would have been in awe over how beautiful it was. Now, however, she despised it.

"Good, we're done. I can go to bed now." Tia said, wishing she could do anything to ruin her sisters good mood.

"But Tia! You promised to star-gaze with me." Little Lulu replied.

"Fine. If I have to."

"Yay!"

The two Alicorns walked to the window. They stood in silence for a moment.

Well, good enough." Tia said as she turned to leave.

"Tia! That was just a glance!" Lulu cried.

"And that's as good as you're gonna get." She said without turning to face her sister. A gold glow surrounded the door handle. Through the reflective surface, Celestia saw a tear run down the side of her sisters face. The sight of her sister sitting with her rump on the floor and sadness on her face made Celestia happy. But she didn't know why.
She opened the door and descended the long stairway. With her keen Alicorn hearing, she could hear her sister crying above. The sound brought a grin the the mare's face.

"Sister, art thou alright?" Questioned a wise blue Alicorn as she entered Celestia's room. The sight of her sisters tear-soaked face answered her question.

"Tia! What's wrong!" Demanded Luna. She hated to see the ruler of the sun in such a state.

"You know, there was once a time that I found joy in seeing you cry." Tia said with a voice that sounded far off. By Luna's guess, it was a thousand years away.

"Celestia, that was as much my fault as yours. I should have seen your pain sooner, and I should have acted when I first saw it." The Alicorn assured her sister.

"Lulu…please, stay with me tonight." The elder sister pleaded. Luna nodded.

"I'll go tell the guards." Was her quiet response as she rose and left.

Tia sighed. He had to return her student's letter. So, levitating a quill, Celestia began.

Dear Princess Twilight Sparkle,

My dearest Twilight! You are most welcome for your book! The wings, however, were not given to you by me. They were because of you. Say hello to all your friends for me.

Twilight, as I'm sure you've realized by now, I have perfect faith in you. I am proud of how far you have come in the short time you've been in Ponyville. I wish I could continue to aid you in your Pursuit for knowledge and magic, but I fear that you may soon surpass even me.

I am afraid though, Twilight Sparkle, that I cannot answer your questions. The time that oh are asking about was very painful for me. Though it has been 1000 years, it still pains me to speak about. As for this event not being in history books, well, in saying that you are partially right. It is in the history books, just not quite the way it happened.

I am sorry that I can be of no more help.

Your loving teacher,

Princess Celestia.

Luna walked in in time to see the letter get sent of in a flash if gold light. The tears on Celestia's face were fresh, and it hurt Luna to see her pained.

"Tia, do you want to star-gaze?" She asked.

Celestia gave her a genuine smile. "You know I do." Was her reply. Happily, the two sisters walked to the window and watched the stars.

Solar Flare

Celestia smirked as she walked through the halls. The guards cringed as she walked past, they had learned to fear her when she had a pleased look on her face.

"Captain Sun Spot! I am retiring for the night. Do not let anypony past these doors. Is that clear?" The royal princess spoke to her captain.

"Yes ma'am!" He responded professionally.

"Very good." She stated as she shut her lark oak doors behind her.

"Good evening, Princess." A cool voice said.

"What's good about it? Wait, who are you?" The Princess replied.

"Oh, the Princess doesn't recognize me? That's sad, considering I have been whispering in our ear for the last month. Ever since you realized how much more powerful than you Luna is. Or how much more beautiful her night is compared to your day. Sweet, perfect Celestia has become jealous!" A the voice taunted.

"Give me a name!" Celestia nearly shouted, thankful for the soundproof spell over her room.

"My name is Solar Flare. And you, Princess Celestia, are mine. Soon, your annoying little sister will be, removed from her position as the bringer of night. The ponies will soon learn to love the day, and they will marvel at MY POWER!" The sound of Solar Flare shouting made the room shake.

"No."

"What did you say?" The being was shocked by her host's reply.

"I said NO! You may have poisoned me against my sister, but I still love her. And you WILL NOT TOUCH HER!" Shouted the sun princess.

"Aw, how cute. You're defending her! Nonetheless, I need your body." The evil parasite began to fight against the ruler. Celestia felt pain and burning like she had never felt before. A blood curdling shriek left her throat, loud enough to get past her spells on her room.

Luna's sacrifice

Luna broke through the door and found her dear sister on the floor in agony.

"Princess! I'm sorry! I tried to stop her but… PRINCESS!" The Captain's last word was shouted in worry and fear.

"SISTER! WHAT HAST THOU DONE?" Luna, for once, sounded grown up. That made Celestia sad.

"I'm afraid I grew a bit jealous of you and your night, Lulu. Solar Flare is trying to control me! I can't hold on much longer, sister! She will destroy you!" Tia's voice was full of fear.

"No, Tia, you had no cause to be jealous." Luna said softly. She watched in fear as Celestia's beautiful white fur flashed gold and her mane seemed to ignite. Celestia struggled and turned herself normal.

"NO! SOLAR FLARE! I SHALL BE YOUR DOOM!" Shouted the night Princess. Her horn lit up with a blue light. Solar Flare screamed inside of Celestia before she was brought out.

"Lulu! What did you do?" Celestia demanded.

"Sister, Equestria needs you. Please, Tia, I've taken your darkness into myself. You need to be strong. Do what you have to do.

"Luna No!" Shouted the white mare.

"I love you, Tia." Luna said as a tear slid down her face.

"I love you too, Lulu." Tia said. Those were the last words Luna heard before she was consumed by darkness. In the place of sweet, little Luna towered a mare taller than Celestia herself, and blacker than the dark side of the moon.

The dark mare knocked Celestia down. "Long last the night." The nightmare said as she prepared to slam her forelegs into the Princess's head. Tia turned her face away, prepared for the fatal blow.

In which Celestia loses a captain and a sister

"NOO!" A stallion's voice rang out. Captain Sun Spot threw himself against the towering Nightmare. He was hardly half the size of this mare, but he was not going to let anypony hurt the princess.

"You fool!" Shouted Nightmare Moon. "You cannot stop me!"

"Princess, the Elements!" Shouted Sun Spot as he attacked the evil Alicorn. Celestia sated no time in receiving them. She quickly adorned them.

"Sun Spot move! I'll hit you!" She shouted as the Elements of Harmony powered up. The captain knew that Nightmare would run if given the chance. He couldn't risk it. He threw himself onto the Nightmare.

"Long live Celestia! Long live Luna!" He shouted as the rainbow-colored light hit the two, and they disappeared.

------------------------------

"I loved him, Lulu." Tia said sadly to her sister. "Why did he not come back.

"Who, me?" A familiar voice said. The two turned to see a gold colored guard behind them.

"Sun Spot!" Celestia shouted and she wrapped her hooves around him in a hug.then she slapped with her wings. "Why didn't you come see me?" She demanded.

"You intimidate me. I didn't want to see you until I was sure I was important to you." He said.

During this time, Luna began to write a letter.
