> Dashie's Dates > by Miinow > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > An Unexpected Visit > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Soarin was sitting around in his home, being lazy as usual. His phone rang, and he sighed and flew over to retrieve it. The cloud he had been sitting on bounced up as he got off it. "Hello?" Soarin yawned into the phone. His ears perked up as the pony on the other end babbled away. "I'll be there immediately" Soarin jumped up to grab his saddle bag. Derpy Hooves had gotten her whole muffin package stuck in a tree, and if someone didn't get to her and help quickly, things could get ugly. Soarin shuddered as he thought of the last time Derpy didn't get her muffins. He stepped onto his porch and stretched his wings, smiling at the sound they made when they swished through the air. Crouching, he jumped off his floating cloudhome and zoomed off as fast as his wings would allow to find Derpy. *** Rainbow Dash was sitting outside on her fluffy porch enjoying the sunlight. "Ah.." ,she sighed "This is the LIFE!" She hummed a happy tune as she listened to the birds chirping around her, and realized that there was another sound too... Looking up quickly, she was alarmed to see a blue blur speeding towards her. "WATCH OUT!" she screamed, covering her eyes with her hooves on instinct. Soarin slammed full speed into her floating house with a and fell with a thud. Dash peeked between her arms. "Hey, are you ok? The speed you were going at was amazing I can believe you didn't create a sonic rainboom!" She looked over the edge of her porch's cloudy railing at the figure below her. Her eyes widened as she recognized the pony under her hooves. She swooped down quickly to accompany him. Poking Soarin with a tentative hoof, his head tilted a bit to the side. He was unconscious. Rainbow Dash panicked, realizing a world famous wonderbolt had just crashed into her house. Not really knowing what to do, she picked him up gently and slowly flew to her bedroom window. Placing him on her multicolored bed, she tip-toed to the door and slipped through, running out her door and flying quickly out of her house towards the Ponyville library. *** Twilight was reading her books as usual. Pinkie Pie had stopped by earlier that morning asking her to find a recipe for Apple Fritters. The library being so quiet, she jumped at the sound of someone pounding on her door. "Twi, it's me let me in!" shouted a muffled voice behind her. Recognizing Rainbow's voice, Twilight dropped her book to the floor and ran to get the door. "Rainbow Dash, what is it?" Twilight asked urgently. "Twilight, You gotta help me. Soarin the WONDERBOLT just crashed into my house! He's unconcious and in bad shape. Please, you have to come!" Dash said in a panicked voice, "Come on, I left him on my bed." "Dash," Twilight sighed, exasperated, "How exactly am i going to get up there? You KNOW that it's still hard for me to fly." "Please just try?" Dash replied, annoyed. Twilight glared at her. "Fine." Rainbow said, aggrivated. "Wait here, I'll be back in ten seconds flat." Dashie ran to the door, sprang into the air and dissappeared. Twilight sat at her desk, waiting. "Ten seconds flat huh?" she thought to herself. Her eyes turned to face the clock. "We'll see about that." > A Celebrity in the house > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A little while later, Rainbow Dash dove through window carrying Soarin with her. "It's been more than a minute Dash" said Twilight, smirking. "Uhg, whatever." Dashie muttered. "He's kinda heavy." Twilight circled the light blue pegasus on the floor, inspecting him. "This is bad..." she said quietly. "Both his wings are broken and I haven't ever used a complicated healing spell. Healing is tricky magic, and if i were to get it wrong, I could possibly kill him." "WHAT?!" shrieked Rainbow Dash. "BOTH of his wings?! Twilight, the wonderbolts go on tour in two weeks! When i broke my wings, I was in the hospital for so long i did something i swore i would never do! I became an EGGHEAD." "They're on tour in two weeks?!" Twilight exclaimed. "I'll get to studying healing spells right away." As soon as the words had escaped from her mouth, the two ponies heard a loud groan behind them. Soarin's eyes blurred as he looked at the purple and rainbow colored mares standing above him. "Hey, are you ok?" asked the cyan, rainbow maned pony. "You hit your head really hard..." His eyes came into focus. In front of him were two of the Elements of Harmony. Looking around, he realized he was in the Ponyville library. "You broke your wings." announced the purple alicorn with highlights. Soarin's body jolted forwards as he heard the words. "My wings!" he started to panic. "But.. But I'm going on tour in two weeks!" "You think I don't know that?" Rainbow Dash laughed. "I'm your biggest fan! I danced with you at Princess Cadence's wedding, remember?" "Oh yeah!" Soarin chuckled. "But my wings..." "Don't worry, the element of magic itself is here to try to patch you up." Dash giggled, smiling. "About that..." said Twilight. "I'm sorry, but i can't let Soarin stay in the library. I've had this thing about pegasi being in my house ever since Rainbow Dash was infected with poison joke. Rainbow, could you keep him in your cloudhome instead?" "Of course!" exclaimed Dash. Turning to Soarin she asked him if this was ok. "Sure." he said happily. "Anything is better than a hospital." Dashie picked Soarin up off the ground, grunting as she lifted him into her arms awkwardly. "Don't worry, we'll be there in ten se-" she quickly corrected herself. "One minute flat!" she said, blushing. > Getting to know you > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Carrying Soarin gently but awkwardly, Rainbow Dash flew slowly towards her house. Looking down she saw the blue pegasus in her arms. His eyes were soft and stared deep into hers. Dashie blushed. "Why are you staring at me like that?" she asked, trying to remain calm. "Is there something on my face?" "No, your eyes just seem to be soft and kind.. You're friendlier than most ponies." he answered back, laughing lightly. Suddenly he flinched. "Ow!" he groaned. Dash's eyes widened. "Sorry." she said wincing, realizing her hoof had been digging into the side of his broken bone. "I'm good." Soarin wheezed through gritted teeth. "Just not used to being handle like this.." he said looking down at his legs which were all twisted up between Dash's head and leg, almost doing the splits. Rainbow chuckled nervously as she realized how strange this was. They stopped on her porch. "Alright we're here..." Rainbow Dash muttered, dropping him lightly onto the fluffy floor. "Woah..." Soarin gasped looking up and down at the rainbows pouring from the clouds. "Nice place dash. Fit for a wonderbolt." Dashie's nervousness evaporated. "Really?!" she asked, her wings fluttering at the compliment. " "Yeah." he replied. "Nicer then mine actually, or fleetfoot's. Spitfire might have you at a tie though. And it's DEFINITELY better than the Wonderbolt headquarters... We never keep that place clean." Dash swelled with pride. "My home is your home, it's an honor to have you here." Soarin laughed. "An honor to have ME?" he grinned. "More like an honor to see you! You're the element of loyalty, have done 3 sonic rainbooms, fought off Nightmare moon, Chrysalis, Discord, and Sombra, and you have permission to talk to royalty at anytime. I should be the one looking up to YOU, not you to me." Rainbow Dash rubbed her leg with a hoof, looking down and blushing. "Well yeah, i GUESS that you could say I'm pretty awesome..." she muttered. "But still, the Wonderbolts have been my idols since I was a filly. I always wished I could make the team. Meeting someone like you is TOTALLY AWESOME!" she smiled happily and trotted into the house. "Come inside, have a look!" she exclaimed, beaming. Soarin walked in with her to be greeted by a flying tortoise and an average sized living room. Confused he muttered, "Huh, I thought it would be bigger." Dash laughed and replied, "The rooms are small, but there are hundreds of them." "Oh. Cool." Soarin said back lazily distracted by the thought of a million different rooms for every single thing possible. Everything in Rainbow's house was cozy and neat. He had been expecting it to be quite chaotic. There was a cloud couch, a computer, a TV, and some shelves with a few books and pictures of her friends and Scootaloo. In the corner of the room was a small statue of a pegasus holding a pot that had liquid rainbows flowing out of it into the basin the statue was standing in. Engraved into the basin were the words, 'Friendship is Magic'. Soarin stared at it for a moment, then trotted over to the shelves and looked at the pictures for a while. He turned to Dash and asked "Who's this filly?" while pointing to a picture of Scootaloo. "Oh, her?" Rainbow Dash replied. "That's Scootaloo. She's an orphan kinda, but I act like her big sis, so it doesn't matter, we're still family. I love her a lot, and it's funny to watch her fangirl over me sometimes. She even created the 'Rainbow Dash Fanclub'" Dashie laughed. "She has a room way upstairs, she wont bother you. Everything she needs is on the top floor." "Oh wow, nice of you to take her under your wing like that Rainbow Dash" said Soarin, a bit taken aback by the tremendous act of kindness. "You're sure you're not the Element of Generosity?" Dash laughed. "Well make yourself comfortable. I'm gonna go catch some Z's." and with that she flew upstairs to her room and shut the door. "Oh, well um, alright." said Soarin, watching her disappear. He moved on to explore the next room. It was a big wooden room with tons of musical equipment neatly tucked into shelves built into the surrounding walls, a bit like a ballroom. A golden chandelier hung from the ceiling, and a lonely grand piano stood in the middle of the room. "Woah..." muttered the blue pegasus, taking in the whole scene. Looking around he noticed a small, almost hidden door between two shelves containing a cello and a few xylophones. Soarin hesitantly walked over to it, wondering if he was snooping. A golden plaque on the door said 'Rainbow Dash's Private Collection'. "Private collection of what?..." he wondered. > The Library > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Soarin poked door and it creaked open. Sticking his head inside, his jaw dropped and his eyes widened as he took in the scene. The room was ENORMOUS, it didn't even look like it should be able to fit in as part of Dash's house. Shelves and shelves of books were everywhere, up to the ceiling, covering the walls in a mishmash of color. On the far side of the room were two golden swirling staircase that lead halfway up the wall to a balcony one ending on one side, the other on the other. On the balcony was another small wooden door with a golden plaque reading, 'Dashie's Room'. Soarin walked into the library and quietly closed the door behind him. The sound echoed throughout the room as he slowly stepped towards the two grand swirling staircases. Making his way up to the balcony, he came face to face with Rainbow Dash, who had been tip-toeing out of her room. She bumped her muzzle into his and fell backwards on her rump. "Oof!" she groaned, rubbing her eyes and lashing her tail. "What the..." Her eyes widened as the locked with Soarin's. "Oh! Wow um, hi..." she said nervously. "I see you found my library." "I didn't know you liked reading so much Dash." Soarin laughed. "Yeah..." Rainbow replied, shifting her eyes around the room like she wanted to escape the situation. "Ever since I read 'Daring Do and The Sapphire Stone' I've been a total egghead." "Have you shown any of this to, um, the purple pony?" asked Soarin. "Who, Twilight? No, she would probably explode if I showed her half of this, and anyways she still has difficulty flying." Dash answered, "I don't really want to anyways because she would try to steal them all one by one." the rainbow maned pegasus laughed. "Do you like to read?" she questioned. "Yeah, but normally I only read adventure stories." He replied. "Can I... Take a look around?" "Oh totally!" said Rainbow Dash, flying a loop-the-loop in the air and landing on the balcony railing. She pushed a large ladder towards Soarin. "Here, use this to get to the high shelves. Have fun exploring!" And with that, she flew into her room with a book she had randomly grabbed off the shelf, blushing furiously, and shut the door loudly. "Um, ok." said Soarin confused as to why she was so embarrassed about reading. He walked over to the ladder and started browsing the highest shelf. "'A Young Filly's Guide to Cutie Marks', 'Equestrian Travels', 'Horns, wings, and all magical things'..." he read each book title out loud as he traveled across the shelf, his voice bouncing around the room. Squinting, he traced his hoof along the book spines, slowly making his way across the room. "A ha!" he exclaimed. "'Daring Do and the Sapphire Stone'. This must be good if it made Dash into an... an egghead." he cringed at his own choice of words. Soarin slid down the ladder with the book in his hoof, and trotted over to a comfortable looking leather couch in a corner of the room that had a cute little wooden bedside table and lamp next to it. His hooves clacked loudly on the polished wooden floor as he jumped up onto the couch, which had been stuffed with clouds to keep it afloat. Shimmying in the chair to get comfortable, he let out a sigh as he began to read. *** Soarin yawned. He had spent the whole day in Dashie's library, reading page after page and losing track of time. The wonderbolt rubbed his face with a hoof, trying to knock the blur out of his eyes. "Maybe I should go check on Dash." he thought to himself. The blue pegasus lifted his body off the couch and trotted over to the staircase, lazily dragging his hooves up the steps. "Hey Dash..." he yawned, creaking open her door. "You've been up here reading all day, what are you-" "TALLY HO!" Rainbow Dash yelled, tumbling down from a mountain of books onto Soarin. The green, blue, and purple parts of her hair were pulled back in a ponytail and she had a red bandana around her neck, along with an eyepatch and a cardboard sword in her mouth. "Woah hi Soarin!" she said happily. "Wanna play with us?" "Us?" he asked. Looking around Rainbow he saw an orange filly with magenta mane that looked like it had been brushed with a bush. Her head poked out from the mound of books and grinned. "Oh my gosh!" she exclaimed "Dash told me but i thought she was joking! Soarin the WONDERBOLT is here, in my house!" she jumped out of pile, giving a little fangirl squeal, then ran up to the stallion and hugged his leg. "Oh hi!" answered Soarin. "You must be Scootaloo!" Scoots let go of Soarin and backed away, her ears pinned back, mouth open, and eyes wide. "You know my NAME?!" The orange pony jumped up in joy. "Oh my gosh this is so AWESOME! I have to go get the rest of the crusaders over here, this is amazing, oh wow I'll be right back!" Then the filly ran out of the room slamming the door behind her. Soarin turned to see Rainbow Dash laughing while facehoofing. "Rest of the crusaders..?" the wonderbolt slowly asked. Dash took a deep breath and let it out so she would stop laughing. "Yeah, Scoots has this little club with 3 other fillies. They call themselves the 'Cutie Mark Crusaders'. They run all over the place looking for their special talent so they can get their cutie marks." Soarin sat down on the book pile. "So, who exactly is in this club?" he asked. "Scoots, Babs-that's Applebloom's cousin, Applebloom, who is Applejack's sister, and Sweetiebelle, Rarity's sister. They are SO hard to keep occupied but really fun to play with all the same. And they destroy basically everything they touch. If they ever go into my mini art gallery I swear I'll-" Rainbow Dash made a strangling gesture with her hooves. Soarin laughed. Seeing a pair of sunglasses sitting on her bedside table, Soarin snatched them and put them on, grinning. "They're mine now" he smirked. Spinning around as Dash tried to snatch them away as she giggled, he leaped into the air and- WHUMP. The pegasus plummeted to the ground, realizing his wing was broken and he still couldn't fly, and smacked his face against the ground in an almost cartoon-like manner. "Like...A boss..." he wheezed, the breath knocked out of him. Rainbow Dash laughed and grabbed the sunglasses from him, putting them on. "I'm still 20% cooler."
