> My Little Human 2: Dear Princess Luna > by SSA > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Prologue or A Whole Lot of Exposition, feel free to skip > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Magic. The element that binds the world together. The element that permeates every sentient being, most non sentient life forms, and even the ground we walk on. The applications of magic are near limitless and often cannot be explained without taking into account forces which are unseen and unmeasurable other than with more magic. One of the most common and least understood effects of magic is the extension of life when a great amount of magic is present in a body. The most extreme cases of this can be found in Dragons and the Princesses, both of which are considered ageless. Less extreme cases can be found in countless species of plants and animals, many of which are sentient, though few ever speak with humanoids. The most prominent, or at least the most common, sentient beings on the continent are humans, pegasai, unicorns, dragonkin, and harpies. These races have several features which make them similar, such as having four limbs, two eyes, and similar physiological attributes, but it is not the purpose of this tome to address the similarities between races but what makes each unique. We shall begin with what the ignorant refer to as the 'magicless' race: humans. The misconception is that just because they are unable to harness their magic, that they do not possess it. This is a outright lie and the effects of the resulting racism that sprung from this misconception is still felt to this day. Humans do indeed have magic, and quite a bit of it too, but they are unable to harness it directly. Rather, it is a passive force which acts on their body and the area around them. Humans have much more stamina and strength than any other race. The strength component seems to be directly connected to the physical size of the human. For example, the average human stands at a height of 5'7'' and can lift a open topped cart with little difficulty. However, if you raise their size to, say, 6'5'' they are now able to uproot small trees. The record for largest human was 8'9'' and stood taller even than the princesses. This gentle giant single-handedly carved the route up to Canterlot (also called Camelot) mountain which allowed it to be built on such a steep cliff. This is evidence to the strength of the human race, but this is not their magic. The way in which the humans 'use' their magic is named the Aura of Natural Inclination or ANImating force. This force and the theorems behind it attempt to describe the magical ability for humans to grow plants in conditions that, in nature, would be inhospitable to such species. This is described and explained in Chapter ninety seven. Another important race in our country is the Pegasai. These winged humanoids possess a plethora of powers including flight, cloud walking, weather manipulation, and, in some cases manipulation of space time. The most prominent feature of the pagasus, and indeed all winged humanoids, is their wings. These are not wings in the traditional sense, but rather these are manifestations of magic in a physical form. The base of the wing is connected to the skin on the back of the creature on either side of the spine mid way down the upper back. This area will have a birth mark which can be nearly any shape or colour. It should be noted that there are four wings, not two. The much larger primary wings provide all the force for movement in any direction. There are, however, two secondary stabilizing wings that often take up the same space as the primary wings. These wings take the shape of a large bird's and are made out of a transparent energy that is tinted the colour of the marks. These, when extended, can be between six and twelve feet from tip to tip depending on the size, power, and species. This is not to say that those with larger wings are more powerful in the air. Indeed, there are many examples of small winged pegasai that have proved that they are both fast and strong in the air. The other skills that pegasai and other winged humanoids possess will be talked about in the next chapters. The last and seemingly most magically powerful race are the unicorns. This group's special ability is the manipulations of ambient magical energy to effect the outside world. These are called the high magics which include, but are not limited to: teleportation, levitation, conjuration, and polymorphism. This has, historically, been the point of contention between unicorns and the other races. Magical spells can involve one of many aspects including magical circles, hand gestures, words, and other, less well known arcane ingredients. The one common factor among all unicorns, though, is that whenever performing magic their hands will glow. This is what we know of the three most common races. There are, however, many more which live in our great country. Primarily, these are the harpies and the dragonkin. These elusive races are discussed in the further chapters. Primarily, magic is the thing that ties all life together... - Exerpt from Magical Creatures Living and Dead by L.S.M. > If Actions Speak Louder than Words, Why is The Pen Mightier than The Sword > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The ground was coming up fast. 'Sweet dear- gotta think fast.' I flipped my body. Ground, coming, fast, think fast, I'm gonna die. Wings. I dont have them. Draconic instinct? Nothing. Why isn't it working? OK, OK, OK, OK, OK, Think! I turned to face into the sky. There was a blimp! I just needed to reach it! I needed to teleport above it. C'mon Spike, you can do this. My hands formed arcane gestures and I felt the fire of my magic flow through my veins. Teleportation, simple, Twilight did it all the time. All I have to do is account for it's distance, how fast I'm falling, how fast it's moving, our relative locations and that of the ground. Then I need to cut a tunnel into the fabric of space, fold reality through the fourth spacial dimension, and slip through... I was going to die. I looked back at the ground. Well, I had a few seconds. I wonder what I'll think of as I die. Would it be my sister, her voice admonishing me for eating too many sweets? My new friends, their laughter and good cheer bringing a smile to my face? Perhaps the mouth watering taste of a fire ruby or ocean sapphire as it crunched between my fangs. I smiled lightly, and died thinking about what I would think about as I died. "I say we paint his face yellow." "ooh, ooh, we could cover him in frosting!" "Or maybe toss him in the lake?" "What'n tarnation are y'all doin'?" "Nothing!" I opened my eyes and peered up at the misty realm where time had no meaning. "Dreams within dreams," I mumble, "And no way to tell if you're awake or asleep." I climbed to my feet slowly and looked about the area. White fog obscured the ground and my boots, never thinning enough to let you see what you were standing on. The flat plain stretched to a white infinity in all directions, the only decoration being the practice dummys, targets, and stacks of books gathered around the area I was sleeping in. I think that not being able to see the ground is a good thing, because when I was laying on it it felt like a down mattress, but when I stood on it it felt like smooth marble, but what can you expect from a dream realm? I pitched forward suddenly, ducking my head as a bolt of red energy passed over me. The next energy bolt skimmed my side as I rolled forward and onto my feet. In one fluid movement I drew my sword, covered it with dragon fire, and deflected the third shot into the ground before I even looked at my attackers. I'd say friends, but I don't really like to associate my friends with the two women taking pot shots at me from one hundred paces away. After knocking down another of Dash's arrows I took a step toward them and neatly disarmed Applejack and, after dousing the fire on my blade, pressed the backside of my sword to Dash's throat. I am so glad I got used to dream logic faster than the others. "It's not very nice to attack a friend, particularly one who isn't looking at you." I do my best to simulate a menacing whisper but the laugh I'm holding back from looking at their shocked expressions ruins it, "Were it not for Applejack's element projecting a sense of what she sees to all other element holders I'd be full of holes right now." Dash bit my ear. "Ow! Not cool!" Applejack disarms me of her weapon and mine. "Get 'im!" And I went running for my life; dodging and rolling as best I could around the training space. And why are we in dream space? Why, because not a month and a half after moving to Ponyville there's a crisis that, instead of dealing with herself, or sending in professionals, Celestia (excuse me, Princess Celestia) sends in the Elements of Power. So we have to train in case everything goes sideways and we need to fight or die. Yippee. But it's not all bad. Dream space has some neat properties. For example, if you believe something, it becomes real. Such as being able to take one step and cover an entire field. Or fly, use strange magic that wouldn't work in reality, and get filled with holes and not die. Of course, the hardest part is actually believing it to be true. I know for a fact that I can't fly. I know that I could, here, but I'm still in my body, and to my sleeping mind this place mirrors reality... Kinda. So my brain is a bit sceptical about just up and flying. But I guess the same thing is true in reality. Apparently there are people who can walk over hot coals and not be burned just by thinking about it. I'll believe it when I see it, but until then, no flying for me. I shouldn't complain. It's one thing after another since we've come to this "peaceful" little town. It was safer in Canterlot. (Now I'm saying it, the proper name is Camelot. Though naming a city after camels is no better than a horse pun, I guess.) Anyway, the trouble started right from the beginning... > I Exist Only Because Porn of Me Exists > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- So. The beginning. That happened with the Nightmare Moon incident. But I guess you could call the only the beginning of the beginning of the times which would later be called "The Troubles". An innocuous name for what I'm sure will be hell. Don't you just love when I change viewpoint from future looking at past to present looking toward future? No? Tough shit, my life, my rules. Now, the beginning of what I like to call "The Rest of It" probably started with my laughing at Pinkie Pie. But you really can't blame me, her name was really funny. "Well, I didn't expect that." "No one expects the spreignish inquesition!" "Not the time, Pinkie." By the look on her face Pinkie didn't like me laughing at her name. What do you expect though? "P-p-p-p," I stuttered, "Pinkamena?" Another fit of laughing, "Are you serious?" "Yes." She replies, "That is my name." "Why?" I cried out as more laughter overtakes me, "They wouldn't let your parents name you blood splatter or mince meat?" I think she glowers at me but I couldn't see. "My father really like horror novels, ok?" That just made it funnier, "He obviously has a few favorites, eh?" "Yes." She grumbles, "It's not that funny." "It's not funny that you're named after one of the most notorious serial killers of all time? And you're a baker, and you're last name is Pie?" "Call it fortune, or lack thereof, on my part." Pinkie sighs, "I thought about changing it but," She shrugs. "Well, I think you're cool Pinkie, put 'er there." We clasp hands for a moment before she pulls me into a hug. I'd never had that many close friends before. Acquaintances, yes, contacts, tonnes, but the people I could trust, the people I could laugh with, there'd never been very many of those, but these women from this little town sitting in Camelot's shadow? I think they could be my friends. I turned to go back into the house. The Tree house. I was going to have to get used to living inside a living tree. I wonder if the walls will drip resin, that'd be cool. The bass pumped vibrations straight to my bones as I made my way through the "Congratulations on Saving the World" party. Bumping into people whom I had never met but offered congratulations, drink, and a few 'favors.' One or two of which I wouldn't have minded taking if I wasn't worried about the social catastrophe that was Twilight Sparkle. You'd think she took dancing lessons at at martial arts class for the deranged and disturbed. I spot her as I make my way past a conga line that kept kicking me in the shins. Twilight was having fun in one of the only ways she knew how. Sitting with a tumbler of amber coloured alcohol that tasted like liquid fire and reading what could only be called a tome in a small nook at the back of the library. Rarity and Fleuretta had taken it upon themselves to attach themselves to her and at least Rarity was making an effort to include her. "And you were making such progress too." I say as I sit down, "Already given up on the 'Power of Friendship?'" "No," Twilight sighs, "Friendship is a perfectly reasonable power source, but I do have a lot of studying to do back at the castle. I'll never make arch magus if I spend all my time socializing and rabble rousing." Twilight places her book on the table, "No offense." She says to Rarity. "None taken dear, I get caught up in my work more often than not as well. Though it is nice to take a break from all the stresses of life for a day off once in a while isn't it?" "I guess." Twilight sighed, "But it's getting late and we're going to have an early start so that I can get back to my studies at a reasonable hour." And then I vomited a letter onto the table. ... The look on Rarity's face was priceless. A mix of WTF was that and utter disgust. Fleuretta - everyone calls her 'Shy' now, apparently - was startled out of her spacing out by it. "That can't be good." Twilight states dryly as she grabs the letter and reads silently for a minute. "Oh... Well then... I'll just be up in the room." Twilight unceremoniously drops the letter and walks up the stairs. Rarity looks over at me, "Something unpleasant dear?" "You could say that, but I don't think so." I say as I read the letter, "The Princesses have decided that it would be good for Twilight to continue her studies from here. We've already been set up as permanent residents of the library, and Twilight has been - what she'll refer to as demoted - to librarian." "Well, I think it's quite nice of the Princess to let Twilight stay. Though," Rarity pauses, "If she doesn't want to isn't it more of a punishment to make her stay here?" "She'll come around, she's just a little peeved that she doesn't get to stay in her little tower for the rest of her life researching new spells and the like." "Youguysarestaying?!" A loud pink haired girl shouts in my ear. "Yes, Pinkie." Ouch. I think I popped an eardrum. "You know what that means, right?" "More parties?" Rarity asks with a small smile. "I need to find a way to throw a party while still partying!" "Delightful." Rarity and Fleuretta share a small smile. "Indeed," I take a sip of something Pinkie puts down in front of me, "But I still don't think this is going to end well." > Author Update > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, so, what's going to happen to His Little Pet, My Little Human 2, and my Story Tartarus. Basically, I have no intention of continuing or completing any of them. I may occasionally drop a new chapter into Story Tartarus whenever I get the need to write, but I am not very good at keeping a story going for an extended period of time. So, this is what's going to happen. If someone wants to continue either My Little Human 2 or His Little Pet they may have the story in it's entirety provided that they meet my standards of writing. However, if you just want to, say, submit a chapter to the story and not have the headache of having to finish it, I would be willing to read the submitted chapter, edit and revise it, and post it, giving full credit, in the current story. If either of these options sound like something you want to do, PM me and we can work out the details.
