> Luna's Fire > by EvilNaab > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The winter night was cold and the ground was covered in snow while Luna was sitting in the cold throne room with a few night guards standing next to her and some of them at the entrance door. She stood up and slowly began walking towards the main door, behind her, the captain of the night guards and her deputy at the other side of the throne chair looked at each other. Night Wind took a few steps after the princess who was half way to the door, but she stopped when she heard the captain's hoof steps. Luna turned her head to look at the pegasus who stopped. They held the eye contact for seconds when the pegasus bowed and returned to her post. As she left the castle the guards closed the door behind her. It took her a ten minutes walk till she reached the main gate of Canterlot what the night guards opened for her. She stood there for almost a minute watching the field covered in snow, inside Canterlot every drop of snow has been cleared, as she took the next step the fresh snow cracked under her hoof. She walked out of the city and the night guards closed the gate behind her. After an hour aimlessly roaming in the fresh snow, she changed her direction towards the everfree forest. She was about to enter the forest when she heard a sound coming from the air. She turned her head towards her night sky which had a few clouds on it, blocking the stars, but she could clearly see a pegasi's body on it who was hitting a cloud next to her. A minute passed when the pegasus finally calmed down and stopped punching the cloud with her hooves, she lifted her body in the air once again and begin the air show. After all kind of different tricks what Luna has seen only a few times in her life which were really difficult, the pegasus tried to pull off something even harder what Luna didn't recognise, but she could clearly see how the pegasus made a mistake and she lost control of her own body then slammed into the same cloud which she was hitting a few minutes ago. After she recovered from the hit, she started to punching the cloud again. Luna shook her head and opened her wings to find a better spot to examine the pegasus, so she flew above her training ground and landed on a cloud. When the acrobatic flyer tried to do it again, the same thing happened, what did in the last try and before that like twenty times. She hung her head down on the cloud then Luna could see a drop of tear escaped from the eye of the pegasus. The tear sunk into the cloud beneath her. She turned her head towards the night sky and let out a scream. "WHY?!" After tears began to escape both of her eyes she chose to push her head into the cloud, hiding it. Luna slowly emerged from the cloud to land next to the orange mare, she could hear as the mare was crying heavily. "What's wrong Spitfire?" She tried to clear her voice before she answered. "Go away and leave me alone!" Luna placed a hoof on her back which made her to pull her face out from the fluffy cloud to yell into the other ponies' face who is bothering her, the furious look dispersed from her face when she recognized who is sitting right next to her. She bowed down in front of Luna and tried to clear her vision with her left hoof, but for some reason she couldn't stop the tears coming from her eyes. "Princess, I'm sorry I didn't mean it." "It's alright Spitfire." After the warm smile Luna could see Spitfire's lips are turned into blue and she is shivering what made it worse for her the wet fur on her face when a small wind hit it. Spitfire raised her head to look at Luna who shot a warm smile at her, but after she noticed Spitfire's blue lips, a concerned look appeared on her face "How long have you been out here?" Spitfire tried to remember back, when a light wind hit her body and she started shaking. It took her a couple of more second till she recognized that all of her body parts are freezing and she could stop shivering. "Too long, I guess." "Go home and get some rest, if you get sick who would perform a week later at the longest night of the year above Canterlot." "You are right princess, thank you, have a wonderful night." "You too Spitfire." Luna turned away, opened her wings then jumped off from the cloud flying towards the everfree forest where she wanted to go in the first place. Spitfire was about to do the same, but her wings didn't obey her, when she failed to do it after a couple of more times, the air turned cooler around her and her body was shaking even more than before. "Princess?" She called out after Luna desperately, the way where she left, hoping she heared it and turn back to help her. Spitfire was waiting for a minute before she gave up and collapsed on the cloud. "Yes Spitfire?" After the question she felt Luna's warm body pressing against her own and her wing around her body. Almost five minutes passed before Spitfire stopped shaking. "Thank you princess." "Is there anything else I can do for you?" When Spitfire didn't respond Luna looked at the pegasus under her wing who had her head on Luna's shoulder sleeping quietly. She let out a small sigh then teleported herself and Spitfire back into her room, since Luna didn't know where Spitfire lives. Luna placed the sleeping mare into her bed then covered her with the blanket. Luna left the room and closed the door behind herself, the two guards were a bit surprised by the sudden showing up of the princess since they didn't know she was inside. Luna turned her head towards the unicorn guard on her left. "Do you know any spell which keeps food and tea warm?" Restless looked a bit confused at Luna for a second, then she answered. "Yes Princess." "Can you get some food and tea in my room and place the spell on it, but please do it quietly, she needs her rest." "Of course Princess." "Thank you Restless." Luna was walking through the castle's corridors while she had her head lowered, when she entered the throne room from the back she saw the main entrance to the room is open, as she walked closer to the throne she could see her sister's mane floating in the air. When she became visible for Celestia, she shot a warm smile at her sad looking sister. "Welcome back." Celestia stood up and bowed in front of her sister as a sign that she can take her place back, Luna sat down on the throne. "How come you came back so early little sis, I thought you'd stay out whole night admiring the first snow's beauty. "I've got interrupted and had to return, also I'm sorry that they woke you up for nothing." She looked at the captain of the lunar guards. "Don't blame her, she only did her duty, Twilight kept me up anyway." "If you would like to go out I can stay." Luna raised her head and a surprised look appeared on her face. "Twilight?" "Yes, I invited her and the rest of the elements of harmony to the castle to help out with the preparations so we can spend some time together, so you might run into them." "There are still four hours till sunrise, get some rest Tia." Celestia smiled at her sister then walked away, but when she got out of her sister's sight a disappointed look appeared on her face. She knew Luna always loved the winter, snow and the cold calm peaceful nights what comes with it. Restless left Princess Luna's room after she done with her job what Luna asked her to do and returned to her station. "Hey featherbrain" She called out for the the pegasus guard next to her who had an angry look on his face. "I told you don't call me that." "You would never guess who is in there." "I don't care and neither should you, who ever she got in her room doesn't have anything to do with us." She sighed and looked away. "Bla, bla bla." "What was that?" She turned back to her older brother. "Nothing, featherbrain, by the way It's Spitfire." The angry look on the pegasi's face turned into a smile then a few seconds later he was laughing. "What? I'm serious." "Of course you are, little sis." After a minute laughing he calmed down and regained the same serious look on his face as all night guards. Restless was looking at her brother for a while then she did the same. The night passed as always, Luna lowered the moon from the balcony and let her sister raise the sun who was standing right next to her. The lunar goddess turned away, but she stopped when Celestia called out for her. "Luna, I know it's not very usual request, but would you like to have a breakfast with us?" "Tia, I..." "Please." "I can't, I need to take care of somepony." Before Luna would head to her room she decided to take a visit to the library. She sat down in front one of the oldest part of it and began looking for a particular book which contained plenty of flying tricks. It took her an hour to find it, and when she did a bitter smile appeared on her face. The way back to the room a few yawns escaped her mouth. Before Luna could enter a voice called out for her from the end of corridor, as she turned around she saw a purple unicorn walking closer. She turned to Restless. "I'm tired." She entered and closed the door behind herself, when Twilight got to the door Restless and her brother, Sleepless, crossed their spears in front of the door stopping her. She looked at Restless who shook her head and Twilight understood, she is not welcomed. Spitfire was still asleep in the darkened room where the sun's only weakened light barely break through. Luna took a look at the food and drink which was still fresh, tasty looking and hot as she asked from Restless. She climbed into the bed and lowered her mouth close to Spitfire's ear. "Time to wake up." She whispered it into her ear what twitched a little. Spitfire's eyes slowly opened, her vision was filled with Luna's floating mane. Spitfire backed away and looked around in the room which was unknown to her and didn't have any idea how she got here. "Good morning Spitfire." The whole room looked so dark and on the top of it was like almost the real night sky, clouds were floating on it and she could see the stars which really confused her about how Luna greeted her, since she can see the stars and no light entered the room from the outside how can it be morning. She kept staring at the top of the room for almost a minute which mesmerized her, when she was finally able to look away she saw Luna smiling at her and holding a book with her magic next to her and some food, drink on the table. Luna decreased the magical barrier around the room so the sun's light reached in to give more light. "You too Princess, but excuse me if my question seems dumb, but where am I and how did I get here?" Luna floated the food and drink in front of Spitfire and placed the now open book next to it. "Since I don't know where you live in Cloudsdale I brought you back to my room, I hope it's not a problem." "Not at all, thank you Princess." She looked down at the breakfast and her stomach rumbled. "It's yours." Spitfire grabbed the food which would be enough for three ponies, but she ate the whole in a few minutes. At the end she drank the warm tea and unintentionally a belch escaped her mouth. Spitfire covered her mouth with both of her hooves right after that and a blush appeared on her face, Luna was looking surprised for a few seconds then let out a small laugh which calmed down Spitfire. "I'm glad you liked it, but you might want to read this." Luna levitated the things away from the bed. She looked at the title of the page and the expression on her face changed from embarrassed to angry. After a few minutes reading she closed the book then threw it away. "I don't care!, I know I can do it so I will and no one can talk me out of it!" After Spitfire's reaction, Luna's heart skipped a couple of beats that she was right about what she didn't recognize the night when she saw Spitfire trying it, maybe it was because she wanted to forget, but how could she. Spitfire flew to the door and placed her front hooves on it ready to push it, but for some reason no matter how hard she tried to, it didn't move. Spitfire turned around to look at Luna whose horn was glowing in the same colour just like the door, they were holding the eye contact for a while and Luna could see the fire of determination burning inside the pegasi's eyes. She released the door which opened and Spitfire walked out, but not before she hung her head down and whisper something to the princess. "I'm sorry." After Spitfire left she closed the door and once again made the surrounding dark field stronger. She levitated the damaged book in front of her which was still open at the page which she wanted to show Spitfire, "The Blizzard". She closed it and small tear escaped her eyes for the old relic and perhaps for the pegasus as well. She laid down in her bed and closed her eyes. After Spitfire walked away and the door closed, Restless turned to her right to take a look at her brother whose mouth left open. "So? Anything you would like to say?" Sleepless closed his mouth then turned to his sister who was smiling at him. "No!" Her laughing lasted only for a few seconds then they both turned to the approaching lunar guards who came to replace them. Just like a few other nights this time too nightmares reached her in her own dreams what she couldn't stop, but this time it was different, this wasn't about her, she was on a hill which she couldn't recognize. Luna was staring at the sky where she could see a pegasus flying and leaving fire behind herself. The pegasus flew up high then she made a cut back, trying to make something extraordinary, but she couldn't do it and crushed into the ground with full speed. Luna tried to rush to the point where she hit the ground as fast as she could, but deep down she knew, the pegasus couldn't survive it, as she got there at the side of the crater, Luna was facing with what left from Spitfire's body. She woke up when the dead Spitfire opened her eyes, cold sweat covered her entire body. For some reason she felt herself worse, worse than after any other nightmares she had ever since she returned. Luna got up and looked inside the mirror on the wall. She was looking awful. After the hot bath where she spent laying like almost thirty minutes improved her scent and appearance. There was still almost three hours till she needs to raise the moon, she left the room and went to look for some food. For her luck she could avoid everypony who would wanted to speak with her, while she was placing the food on the plate which she floated near the table maybe her sister noticed her, but didn't say anything. She was planning the celebration with Twilight and her friends. Luna was looking at the descending sun which was barely above the horizon waiting for her sister who arrived just in time. "Luna is there something bothering you?" "Do you.." She stopped as she turned around and saw Twilight standing behind Celestia. Celestia pushed forward her student in front of herself who looked back at her, but a few seconds later turned back to Luna. "Can, Can I watch you raise the moon?" Luna turned to Twilight. "Leave." Twilight turned back to Celestia who was looking at her sister. "Now!" Luna shouted at the small unicorn who backed away from the angry looking princess and looked at Celestia whose horned glowed and Twilight disappeared from the balcony. "Luna what's going on?" After Twilight's disappearance Luna closed the door which lead to the balcony then turned toward the sun. "Do you remember Winter Blast? Celestia didn't have to think too much for the answer when she heard the name, even if it was more than a thousand years ago she could still remember at the pegasus who her sister fell in love once. Now she could understand why did Luna chase away Twilight like this. "Of course I do." She went to her sister and laid down next to her. Tears formed into Luna's eyes which she tried to hide by looking away. "Do you think it was my fault what happened to her?" After Celestia shocked by the question placed her wing over her sister and placed her head over Luna's neck. "No." Luna stood up and walked at the edge of the balcony still looking at the sun then turned around to her sister with wet eyes. "But I could've done so much, I could take her wings away, lock her up or something.., I'm a goddess." As Luna was talking, more and more tears were coming from her eyes. "I'm a goddess!, but I just stood by and let her do it." In the end she was facing with her sister who was sitting by now. "Luna, you couldn't stop her and you wouldn't do anything with her, because you loved her with all your heart, so don't do this to yourself, when you told me about what she is going to do, I should've been prepared for anything." Luna passed by her sister and opened the door. Luna asked her not to talk about her the day after Winty died, so there has to be some reason why she did it now, so Celestia had to ask it. "Are you planning to try to do it on the celebration?" "No." She almost left the doorway when she turned back to her sister. "But there is somepony else who do." "Luna?" "Tia, please raise the moon for me." Before Celestia could say anything Luna teleported herself away from the castle. She appeared inside the ancient castle of the royal ponysisters. She looked at the throne where they used to sit a thousand years ago with her sister which brought back both good and bad memories. The castle was the only place in the everfree forest what the snow could touch, whenever it was snowing above the forest. Because when the snow touched the top of the trees or anything which belonged to the everfree forest it melted into water right away, it was one of the many mysteries of the dark forest. She looked around and through her imagination the castle rebuilt itself inside her mind in it's old glory, she turned to her right and walked to her old room. She had to remove some of the debris from her way to get to it, but when she got there, Luna began to look for a diary which she left behind and placed a protection spell on it after Winty's death, but she wasn't sure if it remained for this long and the spell wasn't destroyed by Nightmare Moon when she turned into her. Luna closed her eyes and began searching after objects which had magical traces on them. It took her minutes, but she found one, she teleported the thing in front of herself and opened her eye, but for her greatest disappointment it wasn't that what she was looking for. It was an old necklace with the sign of the moon on it what she got from Winty on their first year anniversary which brought a smile on her face as she closed her eyes and remembered back. The dark blue fur wearing alicorn was waiting for her love, laying in the green field under the tree where they met on a summer night. She was late like always, Luna placed her head on her front hooves and let out a sigh, but she got used to it. It took another ten minutes waiting when she finally felt a body's weight on her own and two white hooves wrapping around her neck following a kiss on it. "So what's the reason this time?" "I'm sorry, I really wanted to be here in time, but I forgot to pick up something, I was half way here when I remembered." Luna lifted her lover with magic then she turned on her back to face Winter and lowered her back slowly into a kiss before she released Winter while Luna wrapped her hooves around the pegasus. It was a long, sweet and passionate kiss. After it Winter broke the contact and took a few steps away from Luna. "You know I hate it when you do this." "Winty." "No, I asked you several times before." "And How many times did I ask you not to be late and make me think something happened with you?!" Winter turned around, to see Luna dropping a tear, while she had sad and worried look on her face, ready to cry more. She walked back to cuddle with the alicorn. "You know I'd never do anything stupid." She extended her white wing and a blue box appeared under her feathers. Winter took it out with her hoof and offered to Luna. She opened it with her magic and lifted the object inside. Winter took it from Luna's magic and placed it around her neck. "It's beautiful just like you, I love you and I'm sorry, It was a rough day." Winter placed one of her hoof on Luna's heart then kissed her. The sky above them suddenly turned to dark and the stars appeared on them. Winter broke the kiss from the surprise and Luna's eye began to glow and her horn as well. The stars began to move and form a pony with wings, their light was stronger then the rest of it, when Luna finished it Winter could recognize herself. The shape of her own body was formed by over hundreds of stars. She summoned some invisible clouds above themselves and lowered the environment's temperature in a fifty meters circle around them and made it snow. "Hope you like it." Almost a minute passed when finally Winter closed her mouth and smiled at Luna. "You forgot it didn't you?" Luna's horn stopped glowing and her eyes as well then a blush appeared on her face. "No, I was thinking too long what to get you, so I kind of ran out of time and I'm terrible with presents, sorry." "And here I'm thinking that I'm a show off." She looked at the sky once again then at the land which was covered with snow. "Hope Celestia won't be mad about it." The smile on Luna's face froze for a second then Winter's kiss warmed it up again. Luna opened her eyes and started to look for the dairy again. She was searching for it over two hours, hopelessly when a memory hit her as she put it in a hidden place after Winter's death. "The stars will never forget that once they were you and neither do I." The secret place opened and as she looked at the sky, Luna froze, the stars she once formed into Winter Blast's image were acting on their own forming her and she could swear on it that the figure blinked at her. Tears fell out from Luna's eyes and she had to blink, but when she laid her eyes once again at the night sky it was gone. She kept her eyes on the star group, but they didn't move again, after an hour waiting she gave up and thought it was only her imagination was playing with her so she picked up the diary and flew away. She returned to the same spot where she was last night, looking for Spitfire, but she didn't her anywhere. Luna was about to leave when her eyes recognised a cloud with a tail. She landed on the cloud next to it and blew away the cover from the orange mare to see once again how Spitfire almost frozen to death. "This won't be a good feeling for a while." After she warned Spitfire, Luna's horn glowed and teleported the pegasus into a warm bath, she appeared next to her outside, the pegasus were screaming for a minute as she felt like her body is on fire because the temperature difference and some of the guards who heard it broke in, but after they saw Luna, they left the room. After Spitfire's body adjusted to the water and the warmth of it spread around her whole body, she was laying in it for twenty more minutes when Luna decided to teleport the both of them into her room. For Spitfire's biggest surprise her whole body was dry when she arrived to the room. "Read it, it might change your mind about what you intend to do, but please don't damage it." She placed Winter's dairy on the bed which contained everything what she ever wanted to do or created while she was alive or at least that's what she told to Luna about it. "I'll be waiting for you outside." "What's this?" "I don't know, but hopefully it will change your mind." Luna walked out to the balcony and closed the door behind her. Spitfire opened the book and read the writing on the first page. "For the pegasus who I love the most." Luna After around a hundred pages of different aerial acrobatics maneuvers including the sonic rainboom which she invented and plenty of other flying tricks, she saw the title "Luna" and a drawing about the dark alicorn. Spitfire turned her head towards the alicorn who was looking at the stars from the balcony. The following next almost three hundred pages were about their love and plenty of amazing things what she wanted to show Luna, but only a few of them had the mark which she was able to show her. When she got to the last page with the title of "Hope you will read this when you will forgive me." Spitfire closed the book, she was thinking for a while if she should read it or not, but she didn't open it again and carried it out to Luna. "Did you forgive her?" "Please place it on the bed and leave." The orange pegasus moved a little closer to the dark alicorn. "Princess I know it's none of my business, but." "You are right Spitfire, It's not." Spitfire was about to leave when she looked at the diary which she placed in front of herself with her wing and stopped. "She was an idiot to try it and no matter how many times you asked her don't she did it anyway then died so how could you forgive her." "Probably I'd be mad at her too, forever, so why would you even keep this?" She turned around to see the angry look on Luna's face, Spitfire held out the Winter's diary for a few seconds then threw it away as far as she could from the balcony. Luna teleported it back to the room then jumped on Spitfire holding her down and hit her face. "You don't know anything so don't you dare talk to me about her-" Tears began to escape from Luna's eye dropping on Spitfire's fur. "And yes I forgave her a long time ago, hope you happy now, but I'll never forgive myself for letting her do it and I'd hate to see to slip away another life trying to do something what even she couldn't." Luna slowly stepped away from Spitfire as she calmed down, walked inside the room and looked at the stars on the top where Winter Blast was looking down at her. Spitfire stood up slowly and touched the place where Luna hit her. She never thought Luna would do it, but at least she knows now what she wanted. She looked at the table where Luna teleported it. Spitfire opened the book at the last page and began to read it out laud. "Hope you will read this when you will forgive me." "Luna if you are reading this.. I messed up something and not a really easy thing to write it down, it's probably worse for you to read it, I'm dead. I hope you will never have to read this page what I meant to tear out when I stop doing risky stuffs, but I wanted to tell you that the time we spent together was the best times in my life so I'm sorry it ended by my fault and not by time, I wanted to show you so many beautiful things what you inspired me, but I won't be able to. Please don't be mad at me or at yourself since you couldn't do anything to stop me, just remember back when we were arguing before I started the performances, I always won it, so that's it, you know I'm not good at saying good byes. I hope you will never forget me in your long life and you will find somepony else, I love you and I'll watch over you from the night sky, we can always meet in our memories and dreams. Your love Winter Blast." Spitfire closed the diary and placed it back on the table. "I'm sorry for calling her stupid, she must have been beautiful, but I thought you would want to know what she wrote for you, after all these years." The wonderbolt left the room and turned to the guard who was standing on her left side. "Don't let anypony in." While Spitfire was walking in the dark corridors she was thinking about if she should bother Celestia with the plan she made or it can wait after she slept a little and come back in the morning, but after she peaked in at the one of the doors which opened to the throne room got her answer. A number of ponies gathered around Celestia, it was Twilight Sparkle and her friends, she was standing there for a while hoping they would leave. After a couple of minutes waiting, Spitfire let out a yawn, when she finished it Celestia was looking right at her. Spitfire opened her mouth like she want to whisper something, but she changed her mind and broke the eye contact after a few more seconds and left the castle. She arrived home pretty quick despite she was exhausted and she had only few hours to sleep till morning when with the wonderbolts the daily practise would begin. Spitfire opened the door to the locker room where Soarin was already waiting for her, but before he could open his mouth, the other wonderbolt started it. "Yeah I know that I'm late sorry and yes I was out all night practising and no I won't change my mind, just give me a minute and I'll be ready." While she was talking, Spitfire arrived to the locker opened it and already began to make her mane as it should be and her fur as well at some places. When she finished and put on her dress almost in record time headed towards the door, but Soarin still didn't move a bit from the place where he was without his uniform. "I called off today...." "You did What?!" "Princess Celestia asked me to, and she wants to speak with you." "Is she here?" "No, she returned to the castle." "Thanks, bye Soarin." Before Soarin could react anything Spitfire flew out towards the castle. She entered the same way as she left in the middle of the night through an open window which corridor have an entrance to the throne room. When she took a peek inside, the whole room was emptied and the main door was closed, the door on the opposite side as well, Celestia was sitting alone in the throne room. Spitfire walked in and the door behind her closed by the princess, but she waited with the words while Spitfire arrived in front of her. "Spitfire I know if you want to do something you will do it anyway, even if I'd ask you not to, but are you really want to try to do the blizzard?"" "No." Spitfire hung her head down. "No, I won't try it," She looked at Celestia and shot a smile at her. "I'll do it, but I." "Yes?" "Princess I know your are busy, but I'll need your help. "Go on." Spitfire explained to Celestia every single, little move about the flying maneuvers what she needs to do to complete it and the part where she requires the alicorn's help. When Spitfire finished Celestia had a serious look on her face. "Why?" "Princess?" "Why would you do it?" "Before I got to know the story behind it, I only wanted to do it for glory, do the impossible, but." She stopped for a second and closed her eyes then opened them again to look into Celesita's eyes. "now, I'd do it for Luna, whenever I saw your sister she always seemed cold, sad and lonely, but the Luna who I got to know from Winter's diary was a whole different pony. She would deserve to see it, it's beauty what Winter wanted to show her and I know that I can do this, with your help." A smile appeared on Celestia's face yet it was a bitter smile. "Nightmare Moon has changed her, forever, and the scar which she left behind inside her hearth, I don't know if it will ever heal." Celestia looked at the sun which was shining through the glass window. Spitfire were watching the princess for a minute, she turned around ready to walk away. "Would you like to stay in the palace?" "Princess?" "Please Spitfire, we know each other for a long time so please call me Celestia. I know Cloudsdale is close to Canterlot, but if you wish to do what you are planning, you will need all your strenght and ask me anytime day or night I'll set up the field for you." "But, the wonderbolts." "Only for this five days and Soarin can handle it." "Thank you, Celestia." She bowed in front of Celestia and almost walked away once again, but she turned back. "Celestia which room will be mine?" "Which ever you want, but I'd recommend one from the lunar wing since Twilight and her friends staying on my side of the castle and I believe you know Pinkie Pie." Spitfire remembered back at the gala where she saw what the pink pony did, the rumours what she heard about her and what she heard from Rainbow Dash. She wouldn't have a calm night no matter how far her room is. "Is she going to be fine with it?" "I hope so, even if she doesn't admit it she can use some company, when I heard how good she felt herself in Ponyville at Nightmare's Night, I was hoping she will open up, but she returned to her old life and sealed herself inside the castle." "I should better ask her then, thank you Celestia, bye." "Bye Spitfire." After Spitfire left the throne room, it once again opened all the doors, the guards came back to take their positions and some visitors came as well who would like to talk with the princess. The captain of the wonderbolts tried to avoid attention as she carefully walking inside the castle towards Luna's room. Once she almost bumped into Twilight, but she could flap her wings and hid at the top of the corridor before she could notice the wonderbolt. The only reason why Spitfire was avoiding the unicorn if Dash would somehow learn that she is here, she wouldn't have a calm second day or night. The lunar guards in front of the door had their spears crossed, but when she got close to them and they recognised the orange mare, they opened up the block in front the door. They were looking at the orange mare while Spitfire walked close to the door who was changing her look from one guard to the other, she raised her hoof to knock on the door when she got there, but after she saw the guard won't stop her simply looked at the door and took a large breath. She knocked at the door two times then took a step back from it. She waited a minute before she raised her hoof to knock on the door again, but it opened. "Are you sure you can do it?" Winter hugged the alicorn then placed a kiss on her lips. "Luna, don't worry." Before Winter could break the hug completely Luna pulled her back and tightened it once more. "Oh come on Luna, I have to start it." Luna kissed Winter on her cheek then let her go. "Good luck." "You know I won't need it." She smiled at the anxious alicorn and took off in the air. The celebration was great just like last year, number of great pegasi came to perform and unicorns as well. It was almost going for an hour with Winter on the sky for the whole time when every pegasi landed leaving her alone. She was searching Luna in the audience for a while. It took her almost two minutes to find her then smiled at her, a little blush appeared on Luna's face and turned her head away a little, but didn't take her eyes off the pegasus. The air show was going perfectly just like Winter planned it to go, she finished the last aerial manoeuvre and took a large breath to prepair for the final. Winter was dropping from the sky with the necessary speed, but she was closer to the ground than she wanted to. She shook her head It's not worth it.., but it was going so well,Winter tried to modify her wings to stop the falling, but they didn't move. She took a look back at both of her wings and immediatly realized it. I'm sorry Luna. She drifted too far away for anypony to hear even if she would scream. It took her twenty more seconds to hit the ground. Twenty seconds while she could still think about her love and the years, decades they could spend together if she is not this stubborn and give up this whole thing. Tears were escaping from both of her eyes and she slowly closed them as the ground got closer. Luna opened her eyes when the white pegasus met with the ground and somepony knocked on the door. She tried to calm herself before inviting in the orange mare. "Come in Spitfire." After she entered the door closed behind her and the same creepy yet good feeling took over her mind when her eyes looked at the top of the room. "What do you want?" The pegasus snapped out from staring at the night sky in the room and turned to Luna who was laying in her bed which was covered in cold sweat just like the blanket which covered her body. "Princess are you... alright?" "No, I'm not, but tell me Spitfire why are you here?" "Would you let me stay your part of the castle for a couple of days?" "The room next to mine is empty." Luna closed her eyes and placed her head back on the soft pillow. "Thank you." The door opened once again, but before Spitfire left the room turned back to Luna. "Luna, If you would like to talk, I'm here." She opened her eyes to see if the pegasus is still in the room and when she saw that the orange mare is gone closed the door then whispered in front of herself. "For how long." After Spitfire took a look around in the room she flew home for a few of her stuffs, it took her almost two hours to get back to the castle, on her whole way to her home and back to the castle she was trying to think about the possibilities how could she make the blizzard, but every time her thoughts slipped to Luna. Sure she understands why Luna would like to stop her, but she is not Winter Blast and she definitely doesn't need somepony who doesn't even know her limits to worry about her or perhaps there is something more why Luna wants to stop her. Spitfire was one of the most talented pegasus in the last few centuries. First of all she is the youngest captain of the wonderbolts history, second she has the highest scores in the wonderbolts which no one even could get close and completed plenty of flying tricks what ponies said it's impossible yet, whenever she tried to pull off the blizzard almost ended up frozen, but there has to be a way, there is always way. After she arrived back to her temporary room, laid down on the bed and fell asleep. Spitfire woke up after five hours, the sun was still on the sky, but only for one more hour. She headed down to the kitchen to grab a few bites and drink something then wanted to attend in front of Celestia who wasn't sitting on the throne. One of the guards who was standing next to the door where she entered informed her that the princess went out for a walk in the city with the bearers of the elements to assess the required things for the decorations. It took Spitfire a twenty minutes till she finally tracked down them wondering one of the streets of Canterlot. A few seconds later when she laid her eyes on the white alicorn a voice appeared in her head. "Would you like me to create the field?" She immediatly recognized the familiar voice which belonged to the princess, without knowing how to answer the strange message she said it out laud. "Yes, please." The princess was far away to hear her answer, but she did or at least that was Spitfire thought. "It will take some time for you to get used to telepathy don't worry, look at the sky." She did as the princess asked her to do and saw some strange anomaly in the air. "Don't worry no pony else can see it, after you enter you will be able to control the weather, temperature and everything else with your mind." Spitfire looked at the walking princess who was having conversation with Twilight as well while she was talking to her which amazed the wonderbolt. "Thank you, princess." Spitfire flew up to the anomaly and she was about to enter when the princesses voice appeared in her head once again. "Before I forget if you wish to leave, you need to come up with a sort of password so it will close itself, but do it before you enter otherwise you will stuck in there for a long time." She was floating in front of it for a while, before she came up with the perfect password to remind herself why she needs to do it so badly no matter how many times she fails. "For Winter's legacy." She entered the anomaly and the whole environment changed around her. The sun was high on the sky, the temperature was higher than before and she couldn't see the ground below herself. It took her an hour to finally get used to controlling the whole ambience with her thoughts and for another thirty minutes she had fun playing with it before starting the serious work. After countless tries and hours Spitfire's body dropped on a soft cloud and a few seconds later she was asleep. Before Spitfire could open her eyes, something felt different than where she fell asleep. She opened her eyes and found herself laying in her bed inside the castle. Spitfire tried to get up, but after her body moved she let out a loud moan and fell back on her back. The stiffness in her wings and back was worse than ever before. "Wonder how did I get here." It took her a while to get used to the pain and leave the bed, but when she was done with this her stomach rumbled. She was limping whole way towards the kitchen which paid some of the guards attention and somepony else's too. It took her almost ten minutes to get there and another one to find some warm food, she looked around in the empty room where ponies suppose to eat their lunch or breakfast, but since no pony was around she simply sat down at one of the tables. "Are you, alright?" She turned around to see whose this broken voice can be, but she couldn't believe her eyes when Luna appeared in her sight with tears in her eyes which for some reason almost broke Spitfire's heart seeing the princess like this. "Yes I'm, but why are you crying?" Luna turned away from the pegasus and tried to clear her vision from the tears. "Because.... something got into my eye." Spitfire as slowly as possible got off from the chair and walked to Luna who was looking away from her. When the orange mare arrived in front of Luna, she reached out with one of her hoof towards the dark alicorn's face and gently turned her head to face with her own. "See?, I'm fine." "But you were gone for so long and you slept for almost a day then I saw you walk like that." "Wait what?" Spitfire placed back her hoof on the ground and took a few steps back. "How many days left till the celebration?" "Three." "I've got to go." Before Luna could stop her Spitfire opened her wings trying not to pay attention to the pain and flew out one of the open windows towards the sky. "Princess?" Ten seconds later the same weird anomaly appeared right in front of her like last time. "Thank You." After hours of trying she smashed into a large mass off clouds which caught her falling body because she didn't have anymore strenght left inside of her to stop falling no matter how much she increased the temperature inside the field. It was now when Spitfire finally understood that she is not strong enough to pull the necessary amount of cloud mass down from the air by the vortex behind her to smash them on the ground to create the blizzard. "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah" She let out a long and loud scream knowing no one would hear it, but a few seconds later the sky above her began changing, the sun disappeared along with the clouds and everything turned into dark as the night sky appeared and the stars with it. The stars began to move and a minute later, they took a form of a pegasus. "Hey Spitfire." "Great, I'm starting to lose it." "Oh no, you are not." "Who are you?" "Come on, you know who I am." "Winter?" A smile appeared on the ponies face who was formed by the stars. "How is this possible?" "I'm not sure, but at least I have the chance to tell you, there is an easier way to make the blizzard. I know you hate to do things the easier way just like me, but you have the privilege to learn from my mistake. Winter closed her eyes and a shooting star escaped from it. It took her only a few minutes to explain every little details about the modifications Spitfire have to make, required speed she have to reach at certain points and the amount of the cloud mass what she can use for it and some cautions she have to make. "...but Celestia will help you with that and the other thing as well." Winter winked at the surprised mare. "How do you know about that?" "Please take care of Luna for me, I know you have feelings towards her that's why you want to do it, let those feelings unfold, there are more to life for a young pegasus like you than only flying and chasing the impossible, so good luck and I'll be watching you." Winter smiled at the orange mare below, then the stars returned to their original place. Celestia's sun appeared on the sky and she arrived with it. "Spitfire are you alright?" "Yes princess." "I've lost the control over the field and couldn't enter either what happened?" Spitfire was thinking for a while if she should mention that she had a conversation with a pony who died a long time ago or not, but she didn't want to Celestia think that she lost her mind. "I'm not sure, but I need to ask you a few more favours before the show starts, if it's ok." Celestia nodded and saw how the orange mare leave the field, she was standing on a cloud for a while looking around for some clue what could happen and as she looked on the sky what was filled with the light of the sun, but some of the stars were shining brighter which formed a pony long time ago which brought a faint smile on her face. The next two days Spitfire spent only a couple of hours with practise for the blizzard and the rest of her time she tried to perfect her other skills. When she decided to do it, it seemed much more easier, but after the first few tries she realized how horrible she is in this thing. Spitfire stumbled into her bed around midnight ready to sleep through the whole day so she can ready for what comes the night. She woke up a couple of hours before the celebration would start, before she could sit up she could feel that somepony else is in the bed with her. She lifted her head and saw the dark alicorn sitting on the other side of the bed looking out the window. "I'm sorry, didn't want to wake you up." Spitfire turned on her other side and she was staring at Luna's back for a while then decided to go take a shower, she was half way out from the bed when she felt a touch on her wing. "Please don't do it." She looked into Luna's eyes which were tearing up. Luna moved closer to the pegasus, till she was on the top of the pegasus, held her down to the fluffy bed while her tears continue falling. "Spitfire, I'm begging you, don't." "Luna it's going to be ok and there is nothing you can say or do to stop me, we both know it." "Of course I can...." Spitfire lifted her head and kissed Luna. As Luna melted into the sweet kiss she loosened the hold a little which was the moment the orange mare have been waiting for. She tipped out Luna from her balance by pulling down her left hoof with her right one and with a push of her left wing she made them roll in the bed that Spitfire was on the top. "But you won't." They spent like that a minute, only looking at each other then a blush appeared Spitfire's face, with a flap of her wings get down from Luna and landed near the door. "I'm sorry princess." Spitfire opened the door, but before she could leave Luna teleported herself right next to her, brushed the pegasi's mane then planted a small kiss on her cheek. "Good luck." "Thank you." There was still an hour left till the celebration would start and another till Spitfire should preform the blizzard. She was laying on a cloud looking at the clear sky thinking about what just happened after she woke up. Spitfire closed her eyes to get a little more sleep. "Spitfire, It's time." Celestia's soft voice woke her up. After shooting out in the air she left the field and found herself next to Princess Celestia on the ground which a bit surprised her after all she was flying with a decent speed a couple of seconds ago. Her sister, Twilight and her friends were sitting next to her looking at the sky as the wonderbolts began their finale. "What's the favour you would like to ask Spitfire?" She explained what she needed as accurately as she could, but without knowing what Celestia are capable of doing with her powers it sounded a bit stupid, she finished it just a couple of seconds before the wonderbolts finished it. Celestia turned to Spitfire who felt herself like a ghost since no one even looked at her since she appeared from the nowhere, then winked at her. "Good Luck." "Thank you princess." She bowed in front of Celestia then shot out in the air, a couple of seconds later ponies began to cheer from the ground. When Luna laid her eyes on the pegasus who was raising higher by every seconds she stood up, turned around and began walking away. "Excuse me." Celestia stood up and went after Luna, Spitfire reached the required point then looked back at the princesses. When Luna felt her sister following her, stopped. "Luna, come back." "No, Tia I can't watch this." "Please Luna." "She is a beautiful young mare just like Winter was and she will die just like her, so no I won't stay here." Celestia stepped next to her sister, placed her wing around her and turned Luna's head so she can look into her eyes, which were filled with tears. "Luna, you know I'd never let it happen again so please come back, she needs you to be here." From the distance Spitfire could barely see the ponies who she was looking for, but she could swear Celestia smiled at her and the clouds which she was waiting for appeared around her. Spitfire finished forming the clouds above Canterlot then looked down once again before starting it. About ten meters below the clouds she started to spin around in circles, with every another circle she was lowering both high and the diameter of the circles too. When she reached the bottom of the funnel a tornado appeared above Canterlot and the wonderbolt speeded up tornado as much as she could. When she was about to go and make the huge cloud mass spin as well so it would enter the tornado faster below, Spitfire saw that the clouds slowly began to emerge into the vortex. When she was practising it inside Celestia's field it was working perfectly, but now for some reason the cloud mass started to sink into the tornado while Spitfire was trying to figure out something, but Celestia was faster and her. She raised the shield above the tornado just like around it which prevented damaging the environment. "Thank you." After the short message Spitfire continued, she began to make circles around the could mass so it would start to spin, Spitfire could feel her wings became harder by every flap of them, but she tried not to pay any attention to it. Two minute later when the clouds reached the required speed, Spitfire flew up as high where the ponies' eyes couldn't follow her anymore. She finally reached her destination and began free falling, before she hit the middle of the clouds which was above the tornado she started to spin around so when she hit the clouds the vortex behind her would increase the clouds falling speed into the tornado. Spitfire left through the bottom of the tornado, but the clouds didn't. The vortex inside the tornado tore the clouds apart and spread snow all over Canterlot. Celestia disabled the spell which melted the snow away inside the city so after a long time once again snow covered the entire city. Spitfire could feel her wings were just like during practise, tired and the water from the cloud mass which attached to her body as she went right through it began to freeze her body parts. It took her a little more time than she wanted to stop her body from spinning and the ground was getting closer fast. Her hooves touched the snow on the ground, but she was able to pull up in the last second. The tornado was spinning in the air above Canterlot for almost ten minutes, when it finally ran out of clouds and Celestia dispelled it and the surrounding shield as well then turned to Luna whose mouth was still open. "Can I borrow the night sky for a few minutes?" After Luna nodded towards her sister she shut the stars and the moon as well. The whole sky was filled with darkness just like the ground, only the lights of Canterlot lit up a small part of the field where the ponies gathered, but the sky turned into black. Celestia summoned the required clouds in the air for Spitfire who was resting on a cloud ever since she finished the blizzard. "I know you practised it blind, but if you need it." Celestia summoned a night vision spell on the pegasi's eyes so she can complete her task. "How are your wings doing?" "I'll try it, but you should prepair the spot for me, if not a problem." "Not at all Spitfire, good luck." She took a long look at the clouds then closed her eyes. While she was forming them more water attached to her body, Spitfire was only done with the first cloud, but she had to stop and open her eyes to take a look at her wings. The cloud was looking perfect, but she could barely move to get to the other one. After resting for almost a minute on a little cloud she shot in the air with the fire inside her burning stronger than ever before. Her eyes were open whole time because she didn't want to risk screwing it up. Celestia dragged the Moon closer to the surfice of the planet so when Spitfire would give her the sign, she could light it up and the other stars as well. Spitfire created the last hole on the cloud by flying right through it. "It's ready." Spitfire was falling towards the ground with a high speed, but she was facing with her creation when Celestia lit up the night sky and the ponies formed by clouds came alive. "Couldn't have done it better myself." Spitfire could swear she heard these exact words when a small wind hit her body while she was looking at her creation. The white cloud was smaller leaving a hole with Winter's cutiemark on it and the bigger black clouds formed Luna as they locking lips with each other. The moon perfectly covered both of their bodies and where the clouds were missing like their eyes and cutie marks which made it even more real and amazed everypony who was watching it. Some tears escaped Luna's eyes while she was watching Spitfire's creation. In the corner of her eye she saw the orange mare who was falling and instead slowing down her speed increased. The falling pegasus turned her head around to look at the closing ground. "Well this was a great idea, wonder what it is going to feel like." The lunar princess watched the whole thing as she was falling towards the ground and her dream fleshed through her mind. "Tia." "Don't worry Luna, It's been taken care of." Luna teleported away so she can catch Spitfire easier with her magic. Celestia let out a sigh then smiled after her sister. The lunar princess tried to teleport as close as she can get to the point where Spitfire would hit the ground so she can safely catch the falling pegasus with her magic, but she was blocked out by a force field about a hundred meters away from the point where she wanted to appear. Luna activated her magic and tried to catch Spitfire, but it got dispelled a few seconds later after it entered the magical field. "Nooooooo!" Spitfire smiled at Luna who was hitting the magical barrier with her hoof seconds ago before Spitfire hit the ground. When the pegasus hit the ground, the shield disappeared and Luna fell forward, but she was managed to do it on her hooves. The alicorn slowly walked near the crater which was created by the impacting pegasus, but Luna couldn't look at the possibly crushed body. She laid down next to the hole on the ground and covered both of her eyes with her hooves. "You should really look at the sky, because I don't think my wings would feel like doing this again for a while." Luna freed her eyes to see an orange hoof and Spitfire's head as she is crawling out unharmed. When she finally left the hole looked at the lunar princess who was still laying on the snow with open mouth looking at her. Spitfire looked at her creation for a second then turned back to Luna. "Is it really that awful? "I, I thought you, you are dead." "Yeah, I had my doubts about Celesia's magic, but I knew she will figure out something." She kept looking at the pegasi's body when the realization hit her, how could her sister do it after she used so much magical energy controlling the sky along with all the other things she did tonight. "Oh, no she didn't." Luna turned around so she can fly back, but her sister already standing behind her a few meters away, heading towards her. "Tia, did you?" Celestia placed her hoof on Luna's lips before she could ask it. "It's alright Luna." When the tears appeared in Luna's eyes she placed her hoof back on the ground. "But you." Celestia smiled at her sister. "Luna, it was only a few years, I did it before and I'd do it again anytime, if It's for a good cause, now go, somepony is waiting for you." The dark alicorn turned around then Celestia disappeared as she came, in silence. While Luna was walking to her a blush appeared on both of their faces. Luna raised Spitfire's head so they can look into each other's eyes. "What now Spitfire?" "Can you love another pegasus?, who loves you." Almost a minute passed when a disappointed look appeared on Spitfire's face and she tried to turn her head away, but Luna stopped and kissed her. The kiss was short because Spitfire pulled away. "I promise, I wouldn't do anything what could possibly cost my life, if you want to I'll leave the wonderbolts for you so you wouldn't have to worry about me, ever." "But the wonderbolts is your whole life, if you leave them then..." This time it was Spitfire who placed a short kiss on Luna's lips so she can finish the sentence after it instead of the alicorn. "Then I'll be happy as long as I will be with you."
