> Love and Friendship Will Always Conquer Fear and Pain. > by Night--Mist > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > It Starts With a Stormy Night > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As the rain beat down upon the lush green grass, lightning danced through the night sky like a walts. Most ponies took shelter in their strong built homes as a ferocious storm tore through the land. All but one were safe from it's unrelenting wrath. A pony, with both wings and a horn slowly trotted through the storm, for everywhere he went, ponies turned him away. His name was Crimson Shield. He had a white coat a dark colored mane and crimson eyes that earned him the first part of his name. He had been trotting for hours to escape the storm, but sadly, no pony let him in. He would hear them say things like, "Get lost freak," or "I would not let an abomination like you set one hoof in my house," and sometimes even, "Outsiders like you don't belong here." He had never done anything to anger these ponies, nor make them resent him so. He was born this way. About three months ago, his parents, one very much like him had lost their lives to a griffon attack. His mother gave him an amulet that she said was very special and that it made him special as well. 'But how am I so special when every pony I meet hates me?' The vanilla colored alicorn asks himself as tears stream from his face and he takes of in a gallop. He felt now was the time to make everypony happy. The orphanage in Manehattan pretty much threw him out, only giving him meals then making him go look for what work he could find so he would do to not be a bother to them. Now he would run away, the ponies of 'The Big Oat' will probably be relieved to see him gone. The police wouldn't look for him, nor would the orphanage send in news about a missing pony like him. 'Why would they come looking for me, I'm not like any other pony I've known.' Crimson tells himself as he gallops farther and farther from the city. He galloped for many hours as the storm continued it's dreary downpour and rumbling thunder. Thunder scared the little colt, but he had to bear with it. The one thing he promised his mother was he would stay alive as long as he could. He knew it would be many miles till he reached any sign of a pony town or city and had to keep walking. As the hours turned into days, Crimson, only six years old, was out on his own, alone, with no pony to turn to. He did not spend much time in the big cities, for they were a foul reminder of where he used to live. When he made it to a smaller town, he felt it'd be better if he just stay on the outskirts, he thought he is probably going to get the same treatment here just like where he once lived. He looked for any place that served food that was near him, since he still had some money left to get him a bite to eat that he had earned. He had bought a cloak not to long ago to help hide his wings, so no pony might notice and soon found some nerve to trot in towards town, very weary of where he went. He found a place that served some cheap food. He bought the food for the go so he would not stay too long, fearing somepony he knew might just happen to be here, not knowing how far he was from Manehatten. Soon he made it back to the outskirts of town. He was about halfway done with his meal when heard a gentle voice say, "Excuse me." The little Alicorn jumped dropping his food and sees a yellow pegasus with a pink mane looking at him. Before she could say another word though, he bolted off. "Wait," she said quietly, but he had already bolted for the forest that lay ahead. "I only wanted to ask if he wanted some company. Poor dear, he must not be fond of company," the mare says as she sits down after throwing away his half eaten meal. Meanwhile in the forest, Crimson was trying to find a place to hide, thinking ponies wanted to take his life for what he was. He wanted the mother he did not have anymore to be with him and he was scared. As day gave way to the night, Crimson thought to himself, 'Why? Why did I have to be left alone? Why am I so different? It's not fair. It's not fair that all the other ponies get to be happy. Why did the griffons take my parents? I hate those creatures.' He then has a memory. *He saw his mother and father dying in front of him and he sees a male griffon, with a scar down his left eye all the way to his shoulder standing over their still bodies. The griffons were looking for him, but his parents wouldn't give him up and he was hiding not too far away, making sure not to move till they left. Once the griffons took off to look elsewhere, he went to his parents. He remembers his mother, still alive, saying to him before her death as she handed him an amulet, "Take this my son. It is yours, may it help you in your life, and please do what you can to stay alive, for us. We love you son, and we will watch over you." "No mom...... mommy, please don't leave me," Crimson said. "Please promise me you'll do what I say son," his mother says. "Yes mom, but please, stay with me," Crimson pleads as his eyes start to water. "Crimson, I will always be with you, even when you can't see me, I'll be there," his mother replies. She nuzzles him before her body collapses on the ground. "Mom, Mom no ple-hease," Crimson says, but knew soon after it was futile as she stopped breathing. He placed the amulet around his neck and soon took off for he heard the griffons coming back, and he had to keep his promise to his mother. He soon told the ponies of Manehatten what happened to his mother and father, but no pony believed his story, for all were led to think the two races were at peace and there was no way they would attack any pony, even "a freak of nature" as they called him.* That is everything that led him to running as far as he did from that city, but hopefully he wasn't heading toward griffon country. He then heard a twig break somewhere behind him. "H-h-hello? I-is s-somepony there?" He asks hoping it was a pony just playing a prank. As everything went deathly quiet he started to tremble. All of the sudden, He hears a growl. he looks behind himself and see's glowing green eyes staring at him that belonged to a timber wolf. Once he saw this he took off as fast as his legs could carry him. He didn't know which way he was going. He only hoped it was away from the wolf. Then, if things weren't bad enough, his cloak got caught on a branch and when he was able to react, his cloak had given way and he tumbled into the side of a cliff. He sees more wolves surround him, and he thinks he has just failed his mother. He then crouches low and covers his eyes waiting for them to attack. they start to charge him. He didn't know why, but he wasn't feeling any pain as he heard them race at him. He was unaware that his horn was shining a crimson red aura and was protecting him from the wolves. Back at Canterlot Castle, some moments before this occured, Luna sat on her balcony, overlooking Canterlot as her moons light bounced of the building. Night court had started a while ago, but as usual, not one pony seeked her audience, so she retired to her study and room. "Another night court and nopony visiting," she sighed as she stood up to return to her room, when suddenly she halted. She felt something, a magical presence, and it seemed to be from a pony in distress, a magical pulse that called to her, it disappeared as quickly as it arrived ”Wh...what was that?” she says quietly, she sits there waiting for the pulse to appear again. This time it came again and seemed to be from somepony trying to protect themself from a known danger, she clenched her eyes shut as she felt the raw magic wash over and through her body causing her to answer to it. She opened her eyes and they instantly went wide as she saw a crimson light glowing in the distance and pulsing as it did like a heartbeat, without another thought, she jumped off her balcony and flew toward it. When she arrived toward the boundry near the Everfree forest, what she saw both amazed and terrified her. Terrified her because timber wolves were trying to harm a helpless little foal, and amazed her, for the foal was producing a shield that not many unicorns could master till they were older, and it was protecting him. Knowing the foal could not hold his shield up forever, she dove towards the scene and as she impacted the ground, her size was enough to scare the wolves off. Luna then turned around to see the foal look at her, trembling in fear. "Easy there little one," Luna says as she approaches him slowly. He backs up, not wanting her to get near him. "It's alright, I'm not gonna hurt you dear," Luna tries to reassure the little colt. Before she gets any closer, he bolts off once again for the treeline and heads towards the town once more, not being able to grab his cloak in the process. Before he gets very far, he see's her in front of him again outside the forest, not knowing how fast she really was. This time he had a clearer picture of her, it was a pony with blue fur that had 'wings' and a 'horn'. She was just like him, well aside from the fact her mane seemed sparkle like stars and move on it's own, without any wind. She had a cutie mark with a moon on it and he wondered what it meant. He then saw a crown on her head and realized she was royalty. He knew better then to run this time and quickly bowed in her presence as he was shaking. "What is your name little one?" the Princess of Night asks. Crimson was too scared, and now he realized, too cold to speak. Luna saw the fear he had in his eyes, but knew better not to peer into his mind, she then made her way towards him slowly. As soon as she was close enough, Crimson up looked at her and she looked down at him. She then put a hoof on his back, but before she could ask again for his name, she noticed something. "Oh, my sister Celestia, your almost as cold as ice. You're coming with me little one." Crimson thought he was about to get hurt, only to feel a gentle grasp on his neck as she picked him up in her mouth and placed him on her back. "Now hold on tight little one," Luna says. Not wanting to disobey a royal pony, but still too shy to speak and trembling a bit, he grabs hold of her as tight as he can and she soon takes off. He had no clue where they were going, but he didn't expect much, since they were different from other ponies, even though she was royalty. He didn't know her name, but she was the first pony who hadn't turned away from him, yet at least. Luna had taken to notice his horn and wings, but that was not something that she worried about, knowing she needed to get him to safety as they flew off. > First Time in Canterlot Palace > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As Luna flies toward the palace of her and her elder sister, she thinks deeply as the little colt lays on her back, 'This little one has had it rough. He's an alicorn, but judging from the way he acted, it seems like he's been deeply mistreated by a good portion of Equestria. I wonder why we were not aware of his presence? And to see him out there by himself, I have a feeling that his parents may not be with us anymore. Still, something must have triggered his magic to burst out to protect him, he has almost as much magical ability as my sister's young pupil and that's to say a lot. But why was he out on his own? Surely the orphanage would have looked after him in Ponyville if he has no parents. No matter now though, he's gonna need somepony to look after him. And he needs somepony to help him control his magic as well as know how to use it for good. I feel something very conflicting coming from him, but what it is, I'll have to wait til later, wait til he has come to trust me a bit more. Right now he needs a warm bath and some rest. It looks like and feels like he's been on the run from something for a while, now that I think about it. Maybe he isn't from Ponyville. I'll find out when I can of where his true origins originate.' As they approach the palace, Luna could feel Crimson slipping into unconsciousness. "Oh, don't fall asleep yet young one, I need to have you cleaned up a bit. We're almost at my home," Luna informs the young colt, feeling it might be better not to use the 'Royal We' and the 'Old Canterlot Language' around this little alicorn colt. He looks over her shoulder and sees the city of Canterlot. This city was different from others he encountered as he saw the castle tower over the rest of the city. He didn't know why but here he now feels safer then ever before, he was miles and miles from Manehatten, and this is where other ponies who looked like him lived. 'How many more like me are there?' He thinks, for Luna was the only other one he had seen so far. He keeps wondering if maybe they were the only two of their kind. His mother had been one herself, but now she was gone, so it might just be him and the one giving him a ride. Luna looks back and sees the amazement in the colt's eyes. "Welcome to the city of Canterlot young one, and up ahead is Canterlot Castle. Home of myself , my sister, Princess Celestia and our dear niece Princess Mia Mora Cadenza', or Cadence as we like to call her. Oh and where are my manners, I am Princess Luna, guardian of the night," Luna says. Crimson is still too shy to speak, but he feels a bit more comfortable to be in the presence of Princess Luna. After hearing he is getting cleaned up, it seems to be an indicator to him that she meant not to harm him, in fact it seems she wants to help him, but he couldn't be too sure. Since his mind was still so young, yet had been through so much pain, he didn't know who to trust, but Princess Luna appears to one of the nicest ponies he's ever met, aside from his parents. Luna could sense his uncertainty of being with her, but she knew that over time she would be able to gain his trust, and she feels something deep inside get triggered as she looks at him. Soon, she lands outside the palace doors. "Your Majesty, may I ask why you are outside the castle walls?" One of the guard ponies of the night watch asks her as he bows. "Please forgive Our absence from the palace grounds, but this young little pony was in need of Our help and We couldn't leave him alone," Luna says using the 'Old Canterlot Language' as she reveals the colt on her back. Crimson was trembling at the sight of the guards, wondering if they would hurt him. "I'm not questioning your wisdom, but was there a specific reason you did not drop him off in the nearest town or city orphanage he was close to, your highness?" Another guard asks, making Crimson whimper a bit at the mention of an orphanage. "We have many reasons why We have brought this little colt to our home, and all are extremely good reasons for doing so. We ask that you have one of our good caretakers draw up a bath in our chambers while We head up there with thy young colt as well as to bring some refreshments up for the little foal and Us to eat and drink," the Princess of the Night politely commands. The first guard was thinking about advising against it, but seeing the look in Luna's eyes, which was one that puzzles him, plus the fact he had seen the little foal had wings and a horn, he feels it was right to do as Princess Luna wishes. "Very well your highness, let me inform a fellow guard of this and we'll let you be on your way with the little colt," The guard says, heading off to inform a fellow guard pony before coming back. Luna soon heads in and the second guard looks at his fellow guard pony. "Are you sure that was right Silver Sword, letting her take him in there with her. I mean, he is a stranger here, but why does it seem right to do so?" The guard asks. "That's a good question. At first I was not so sure myself. But something about the way Princess Luna addressed us when we asked about the colt, she seemed protective of him, more then most of her subjects. And if you look at it, something must be special about him for her to bring him here. Plus, you saw he had both wings and a horn, so he's just like the Princesses. He's an alicorn. But the only thing that puzzles me is why did he look so shaken up like he had been through a war zone or something, and I saw the way he trembled and heard him whimper at the mention of an orphanage. He obviously had a bad experience with them. In all honesty, it seemed like the right thing to do. Captain Shining Armor can punish me later if it was truly wrong of me, but it felt right in my mind Bronze Dagger," Silver Sword says. "Well, now that you mention it, I don't think the Captain of the Royal Guard will be mad with your decision. And I have a feeling, we'll be seeing a lot more of that little trooper around here. Like you said, he seems to have been through more than a foal his age should endure," Bronze Dagger replies. As the two guards continue talking about the colts arrival, Luna is nearly to her chambers while the foal couldn't stop admiring the inside of the palace. Crimson wonders how an alicorn like her was able to live in a place like this and how she was able to command other ponies of another race in the kind caring way she did. He thinks his eyes and mind are playing tricks on him for a moment, but soon knew it was all too real. Soon they enter Luna's bed chambers and Crimson sees a bed that was big enough to let at least 10 pony's, including Luna and him, sleep on it. Another pony in a maids suit trots out of a door and says as Crimson crouches down on Luna's back, "The bath is ready as you requested your highness." She then takes notice of Crimson and that he has the features of an alicorn and asks, "Oh, what an adorable little colt your majesty, is he somepony you know, a relative perhaps?" "No Dusty, We unfortunately do not know the name of thy little colt. We found thee in the Everfree forest being chased by timber wolves," Luna replies. "Goodness gracious, he's lucky to have gotten out of there with his life. Is he hurt, your highness?" Dusty gasps in surprise. "Thy little ones fur is a little ruffled is all, but We thankful thou was not hurt. We shall retire to the bath now with thy little colt. I thank the for thy help," Luna calmly says to assure Dusty he was alright. "It was no trouble your majesty, if you shall need anything else, I won't be far away. I have taken the night hours and have been well rested your highness," Dusty informs her. "Thank you, We shall await the food to be brought to our chambers as We and thy young one bathe," Luna says. "Of course your majesty, I shall inform you when the food has arrived," Dusty replies. "Thank you kindly Dusty," Luna says. Soon Luna trotted into the bathing room with Crimson on her back and as promised, the bath was warm for the two ponies enter. Soon Luna grabs Crimson gently by the back of his neck and places him on the floor as she removes her royal attire. Luna then notices the amulet hanging around Crimson's neck. She then asks Crimson with a gentle smile, "Do you mind if I remove your necklace little one?" Crimson only politely shakes his head as he lets her remove it. As Luna brings it up to her eye level, the markings on the amulet catch her attention and takes a moment to examine it before she concludes what it means in her thoughts as she sets it on the sink vanity next to her own jewelry. She then picks up little Crimson again and desends into the water, setting Crimson in the shallow end in case he couldn't swim. Crimson then looks at her and wonders why she was being so nice. 'I am no one, she's royalty and other ponies look up to her. But why was the maid acting so nice too, are not all ponies like the ones I knew back in Manehatten. Just thinking about that city gives me goosebumps. But why did she come for me. Even though I may look like her doesn't mean I'm something special. Maybe I should talk too her, ask her a few questions. I mean, she's been nice to me so far, and I'm sure she has questions about me. I just hope she doesn't ask about my parents. His thoughts were interrupted as Luna says, "You must have traveled very far from your home little one. You look so worn out. Do you mind if I ask for your name and where you're from dear," Luna asks. "M-my name is C-Crimson S-Shield, y-your m-majesty," Crimson finally says. "You do not need to be afraid young one. Your safe here, no pony will hurt you, I give you my word as a princess of Equestria, and there is no need for the formalities. You can call me Luna little one, well, at least when we're alone. And Crimson Shield, that is a hansom name for a hansom little colt like you," Luna assures him. Crimson blushes at her comment and Luna then asks, "Where did you come from that you ended up in that dreadful Everfree Forest little Crimson?" Crimson knew that question was sure to come up and looks down as he replies, "I-I'm from M-Manehatten. The ponies there were mean to m-me, even the orphanage," Crimson begins to tear up as he continues, "The called me things like outcast, freak, even a-abomination. I don't kn-know why they hate me, I d-didn't do anything to them." Luna was in utter shock. Ponies in Manehatten calling a little colt like him such harsh names was inexcusable. Now she understands why he had been trembling in her presence when they first encountered each other and then again when he saw the guards in armor. She also understands now, why he whimpered at the word orphanage. She then thinks as she pulled Crimson close to her to help calm him down, 'The orphanage must have treated him very poorly and that he must have run away from all of the mistreatment they were giving him. And if he was an orphan, then that means either his parents gave him up at birth or, I hope it's not this, they may have died. He needs a home, but I can't send him to the orphanage here, he would just run away again. And I feel it would make him think I am no better then those ponies who caused him such pain. Also, that amulet and his magial abilities. He has such a raw power of it, a good portion less then Twilight's right now, but it is still a very high level. He needs somepony, to help him harness that magic and control it. I wonder if I should teach him. Yes I should and I should talk with my sister about this in the morning. Her thoughts are interrupted as she hears Crimson sneeze. "Oh, bless you Crimson." "T-thanks L-Luna," he replies shyly. "Crimson, I know you've had it rough in the past, but I will tell you right now, you are not an outcast, you're not a freak, you are not even an abomination. Those ponies had no right to call you such things or treat you like they did," Luna says as she gently starts cleaning his mane with shampoo. Crimson looks at her and asks after she pours water on his head, "D-do you w-want me to g-go after I'm d-done eating?" "Actually Crimson, I want you to stay the night. You can sleep with me since we don't currently have another bed for you here. Is that alright?" Luna asks. Crimson nods but then hears his stomach growl. "Hmhm, good thing I asked for food be brought up. You are definitely a hungry little fellow." "Um, L-Luna, c-can I ask you s-something?" Crimson asks nervously. "Of course dear," Luna answers kindly. "W-why did you c-come and f-find me, and w-why do you s-speak different t-to the other p-ponies?" He studders. "Well to answer your first question, I came looking for you because I felt and saw you were in danger and I just talk to you this way to make it more comfortable for you young Crimson," Luna tells him in a caring way Crimson was shocked she actually cared about him being safe since everypony else he met in Manehatten seems to want him to not even exist. Soon Crimson and Luna finished their bath and she set him on the floor before grabbing a towel and drying him off and herself. She then lets him walk after he asked to and they soon head into the bedroom. Luna helps him onto the bed and lays next to him. There is a knock at the door and ponies walk in with carts that are filled with food. "A veriaty to your liking your highness," a butler pony says. He then notices Crimson and adds, "Oh, I did not know a young colt was with you, my apologies for not preparing him dishes of his own liking, your grace." Crimson head was spinning at the fact other ponies of different races were treating him as if he was royalty. His thoughts are cut short as he hears Luna say, "Quite alright Sarsaparilla. We are sure there are some entrees here that will appeal to thou's taste, thy may take thy's leave. We appreciate thy service very much," Luna informs butler Sarsaparilla. "It was a pleasure you majesty," The butler says and soon heads out the door. Soon Luna told Crimson to choose whatever he would like to eat, and being so hungry it didn't decline. He only paused when he realized he was in a princesses presence and was unaware of how to eat like nobles do. "Don't worry about eating properly in front of me little one. I know that's what is troubling you. You do not have a group of ponies watching you like you need to act the part of a noble dear, go ahead and, how do the common folk say it? Oh yes, dig in dear." He was a little surprised she was allowing him to eat the common way, but he didn't complain as he started to devour his meal. After he had filled his belly, he let out an enormous yawn and rubbed his eyes. "Time for bed little one. Come over here and lay with me," Luna says, motioning Crimson to a pillow almost twice his size laying next to her. Luna knew she had to get him to trust her if she was going to start teaching him how to use his magic for good and take care of him. He was a little unsure at first, but soon knew she wasn't trying to cause him harm. She was offering her body's warmth, so he made his way over to her and got into a comfortable position on the pillow. Since his eyes felt heavy, it didn't take long for him to pass out by her side. Luna smiled gently and nuzzles him softly before she says, "Sleep well little one, I believe many things will begin to change for you tomorrow." She herself keeps a vigil eye on the moon and casts the last spell that would move it across the heavens so it could make way for the sun in the coming hours. She too then falls asleep as the guards keep a keen eye on any signs of danger. > A Family Conversation and a Meeting with Nobles. > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Much of that night went uneventful, except when Crimson stirred in his sleep having a bit of nightmare. Luna was awakened by this and pulled him close to her, placing a wing over his sleeping body, which helped him feel safer in his unconscious state. Soon Luna's Moon made way for Celestia's Sun as it came over the horizon. Celestia was now on her way to her sisters room to ask how her night had gone, expecting to hear the same story of no pony showing up to night court, with a slight hope something exciting happened. She saw many of the castle staff whispering quietly among each other, only stopping to bow in respect to her before talking to each other again. She soon saw Dusty head towards her chambers and stopped her as she passed. "Excuse me Dusty, I know you've probably had a long night, but may I ask what's got all the ponies in the castle chattering away? I couldn't make out what they were saying since they are talking so quietly," Celestia asks their best caretaker as she suddenly senses a magical presence she was unfamiliar with. "Oh, well Princess Luna sort of brought home a... surprise last night. I think it's something you might want to see for yourself rather then me explain it to you, your highness," Dusty replies. Celestia raises an eyebrow at Dusty's response but soon lets the mare make her way to bed. Luna is just waking up and sees little Crimson cuddling up and under her wing. His face buried in her fur, keeping the sunlight from waking him up. Luna found this scene to be too cute, as if he were her own colt. A soft knock on the door is heard, causing the young colt to stir in his sleep. Luna gently runs her wing through his mane, making him relax instantly. Using her magic, Luna quietly opens the door to reveal her sister. Luna quickly covers Crimson's whole body with her wing. "Good morning little sister; I hope that last night went well for you," Celestia says. "Very well, in fact, I did... Get a little excitement last night," Luna replies. "Oh, well, that's interesting to hear," Celestia states. "There's something I must show you big sister," Luna informs her. "Yes, what is it Luna?" a hint of curiosity entering her tone. Luna removes her wing to reveal a sleeping little colt nestling up beside her. Celestia gasps, suddenly realizing where the magical presence came from and asks, "Luna, where in Equestria did this little one come from?" "Calm down sister, and I shall explain," Luna pleads so Crimson would not wake. Celestia takes a deep breath and lets her sister continue quietly. "Alright, now, last night started as most of my nights do. No ponies showed up to night court once again, but that much is expected since I have only been here for a short time. I decided to retire to my chambers and was about to take my rest for the night when I sensed this little one in danger. His magic was sending a signal saying he was in trouble. I soon walked outside to my balcony and saw a crimson light off in the distance in the Everfree Forest. I flew towards the light, and that's where I saw him, surrounded by timber wolves," Luna says before Celestia is able to interrupt. "My goodness, what in Equestria drove him into that place?" Celestia asks in a quiet voice, shocked that a little colt like would ever be there. "I have no idea sister, but this much I do know. He was producing a shield that ponies twice his age have a hard time producing. He has almost as much potential as your student, Twilight Sparkle... And there is something else,," Luna states before her horn began to glow. Another gasp comes from Celestia as Crimson's amulet is levitated in front of her. "You know what this used for, right?" Luna questions after seeing her sister's reaction. "Yes, our parents had us each wear one when we were young, so if we ever got lost, ponies would know we were royalty. Well, before Discord took over of course," Celestia says, shaking at the thought of his reign. "Yes, so that means little Crimson Shield here is royalty," Luna smiles, but it soon fades away, "Sadly, I feel his parents are no longer with us." "Well, if either of his parents were alicorn and they are no longer with us, they must have been struck down in battle. That is one of the only few ways our kind can pass into the next realm." Celestia says. "I know, and I couldn't bear the thought of sending him to an orphanage. I know I just met him, but I could never forgive myself if I did such a thing, plus, I feel he would think of me as no better then any other pony who poorly mistreated him. It seems we have a few subjects that have been a bit disrespectful of other ponies because they are different," Luna replies. "What do plan on doing Luna?" the Alicorn of Day asks. "I plan on helping him with his magical potential and also in some flying lessons. I don't think he has used much of either, so some practice would be wise," Luna replies. "Are you saying you want to make him your student, like I have with Twilight?" Celestia questions her sister with hopeful eyes. "Yes, if it's not too much to say, I want to enroll him into your school and become his personal mentor. I also wish for him to stay close to me, at least until he's grown more accustomed to being around all of the ponies at this castle and in Canterlot. I do believe he has some trust problems with the way he told me he was treated. I also feel there is something conflicting deep inside him as well. Now I have forbidden myself to look into his memories until he has become far more open with all of us. Perhaps in time I shall let him visit the town of Ponyville to see how other ponies live far from those streets of Manehatten. But for now, he needs rest and somepony to look after him. When he is comfortable enough I will start to teach him," Luna answers. 'This could be a pleasant new start for my little sister. If other ponies see she is caring for another pony, they may come to trust her more and more and visit her in night court in the future.' Celestia ponders to herself. She informs Luna, "Luna, I support you in this decision you are making, but there is the matter of the other nobles. I'm sure by now, word has reached their ears that he is here and I don't know if all of them will be pleased with this news. We will have to set up a meeting with them and little Crimson will unfortunately have to attend it. Now, we have more then enough reasons of why he should stay, so it's highly unlikely that he will be sent away from the palace. Also be aware taking care of him will be a huge responsibility. If you are to gain his trust, you will have to spend as much time as you can with him and show him that you do care about him. Show him you aren't just somepony who pities him, but truly cares for him. Ponies like the ones that mistreated him sicken me, and in my opinion, should be put on trial for such neglectful acts." "I understand completely big sister. In all honesty, it pained me to see him in the state he was when I found him. My heart, though it may have held darkness within it in the past, could not bear the idea of just looking the other way and not showing any emotion for him. He deserves far better then how those ponies treated him. I will be doing my best to protect him and, who knows, I may decide to make him more then just a student one day," Luna tells her sister. "Are you saying?....." Celestia was cut short of her sentence as Luna nods. "Well, I will support that decision too. However, I can think of a certain white unicorn who might not be so supportive... though it would be funny to see his reaction," Celestia chuckles as she speaks. "Well, time to wake up the little guy," Luna says. "Oh, let him sleep a little longer, he seems like he had a tough day yesterday. Besides, I still need to set up the meeting, so I'll come get you when it's ready," Celestia says. "Alright big sister," Luna comments. Celestia soon takes off and gathers the nobles for a meeting in the Royal Conference Room. A couple hours pass and Crimson starts to stir as he awakens. When he opens his eyes he see's Luna looking down at him in a caring way. "Good morning little one. I hope you slept well," Luna says. "I had a b-bit of a b-bad dream l-last night," Crimson says. "Well, the bad dreams will go away with time. I have some breakfast on the way for us this morning," Luna informs him. "But, I thought you would want me to take off once I rested?" Crimson asks. "I never said I wanted you to leave. In fact, I was going to ask if you would like to stay at the castle with my sister, my niece, and myself. You are very gifted, little one, and I want to help you learn to use your magic for the good of pony kind, it might lead you to do great things," Luna smiled, "Now for some bad news. We need to go to a meeting with the other nobles and talk about your stay here. You'll find something out that will be a bit of a surprise to you. I know you are very shy around other ponies right now, but we must attend this meeting," Luna says. All that information was a lot for Crimson to take in. He became nervous at the thought of sitting in a room full of high class ponies. He only truly trusted Luna because she had been so nice. "Wouldn't it be better to just leave and save you the trouble? I'm so different; I'm nothing special," Crimson said dejects. Luna stroked Crimson's mane, "You are special, and it wouldn't be better if you leave. I cannot let you go back and live the life you once did. Here, I can help you make friends, teach you magic, and so much more. The ponies you met back in Manehattan are not the only types of ponies there are. Those ponies are... what's the word... snobby! Those ponies are snobby, and barely know what happens outside of their own city. It took them ages to find out that I had even returned. So as soon as we settle it with the nobles, you shall stay here with me at the palace, that is, until we can build you your own room close by. I sense that you do feel safe around me, am I right?" Luna politely asks. Crimson simply nods. "Then I will see to it that a room be built for you once you've settled in a bit more," Luna continues. "Oh, you don't have to do that Princess Luna, really," Crimson says. "I told you that you can just call me Luna when we are alone, and soon possibly in public," Luna says. "But, what if the nobles say I have to go? What if they say I'm not allowed in the Castle ever again?" Crimson asks in a nervous tone. "You won't have to worry about that. My sister Celestia and I have that under control, should they seek to follow that route," Luna assures him. Soon there was a knock at the door, and a surprised gasp came from Crimson when he saw who stood behind it. A maid with breakfast pastries walked in and soon after, a white alicorn did the same. Crimson was shocked to see another alicorn and figured she was Luna's sister based on her height. "The meeting is ready, dear sister, we will start as soon as you and Crimson are done with breakfast," Celestia informs her. "Huh? H-How d-do you kn-know my name y-your highness?" Crimson asks, confused as the maid walks out. Celestia only smiles as she answers, "My sister Luna let me know your name while you were asleep little one. And you have no need for formalities, we're not at the conference with the nobles yet, though, I doubt you'll need to use formalities at all after today." "Huh, why?" Crimson questions. "You'll find out at the meeting young one, now go ahead and enjoy your food. I'll be waiting outside for the two of you," Celestia says as she too walks out the door. Crimson and Luna enjoy their morning entrees and soon make their way out of the room after Luna grabs her royal attire and Crimson grabs his amulet. Celestia joins them and they start to make their way to the conference room. Crimson is once again taken away by the decor of the castle and is surprised he wasn't in a dream, he had even pinched his leg earlier to check. Sure enough, he was awake. Some of the guards comment about Crimson as they look at him. He begins to walk closer to Luna, feeling scared one of the guards may throw him out if he strays to far. Luna senses his fear and assures him, "You needn't worry about the guards. They would not do anything unwise to upset my sister or me." This made Crimson relax easier, but it didn't last long as they made their way into the conference room. Once in there, many of what he thinks the two royal sisters called nobles were eyeing him down. However, some do seen more caring, especially another alicorn who he presumes is Princess Cadence from what Luna told him last night. Celestia and Luna make their way to their seats in the room, and Luna teleports a chair that was the right size for Crimson into the room. It is not long after that when the question Crimson fears the most is asked. "Princess Luna, you come before us today with this colt and allow him to sleep in the palace. Would you care to explain your reasons for this outrageous action?" asks the unicorn noble, Lord Black Hoof. "There is nothing outrageous about our actions. This young colt has been through more then we would want any foal to bare. From what we understand, he was living in an orphanage in Manehatten. Now we know not why he was placed there at this time and do not wish to ask him at this time..." Luna was soon cut off by Prince Blueblood. "Well I wish to hear the explination of why he was placed there. Maybe it will provide clues as to why he ran away," Blue Blood spits out. "We feel that it is unjustified to ask him at this present time," Luna fires back, trying to avoid the topic for Crimson's sake. "I'm sorry little sister, but under article 184 of Equestrian law, if the nobles make such a request, the pony or party in question must give the answer," Celestia informs her. 'I shall try my best to amend that rule little sister,' Celestia tells her through telepathy. Luna sighed, "Very well. I am sorry young Crimson, but this council wishes to hear the reason you were put in the orphanage." Crimson gulps, "M-my parents were k-k-killed th-three m-months ago," he manages to say before breaking into tears, causing the other three alicorn to gasp. "And soon after you were placed in an orphanage?" asked a noble, wanting to stray off the current topic. Crimson nods, wanting to thank the noble later on. "Hold on," Blue Blood cuts in again, "How were they killed Crimson." Luna was wanting to teach Blueblood a lesson for being so ruthless to the little colt. "They were k-killed by........ Y-you wouldn't b-believe me y-your grace." "Young colt, we are hear to know the truth, no matter how silly it may sound," replies Duke Red Mane. "Tell us what killed your parents little one," Blue Blood demands. "They were k-killed by g-gr-griffons y-your majesty," Crimson finally says, no longer able to hold back any of his tears. Luna wraps a comforting wing around him, while the nobles were in an uproar. "That is absurd! We've had peace with the Griffon Kingdom for nearly three generations!" shouted one noble. "If they are truly behind this crime, it could lead to further actions toward war!" spat another. Arguments sprang through the nobles like wildfire. Crimson hid himself under Luna's wing, in an attempt to block out as much of the yelling as possible. Celestia sees the way Crimson looked and decides it was time to end this, saying in her royal Canterlot voice, "SILENCE! ALL OF YOU TAKE YOUR SEATS!" This caused the nobles to go completely silent. Celestia clears her throat and says, "Thank you, now, do understand there is a child present with us so I ask you keep your voices to a reasonable tone. On another note, this is an unexpected development. How this managed to remain undetected is a mystery in itself, but we will approach this rationally. Now, it very well may be that this was one, or a group of rouge Griffons that don't follow the law like all griffons and ponies should. This could also be as we feared, and the whole Griffon Kingdom has now decided to no longer follow our agreement we previously put forth. I do not believe Crimsons story to be in any way false. Ponies his age could not and would not make up a story like that. Now there is the matter of why he will stay here." "Quite right, Princess Luna, please give us your explanation of why he is staying here, even if some of the council may disapprove of such and act," Prince Blue Blood states, now feeling sympathy for the young colt. Luna is uncertain of where Blue Blood stood on the matter, so she takes a deep breath and says, "The reason we have let him stay here is because a few hours prior to his arrival at the castle, young Crimson Shield had found himself cornered by a pack of timber wolves." This made many nobles gasp at such a situation as Luna continues, leaving out the part about his magical abilities, "We soon landed on the scene and were able scare of the wolves deep into the Everfree forest. Once Crimson realized the danger had passed, he told us why he had arrived so far from Manehatten. Evidence seems clear to me that some ponies from the city of Manehatten mistreated Crimson greatly, including the orphanage. We do not wish to send him back for some reasons we will point out. For one, he shows great magic potential and we wish to enroll him into our sisters school. Our sister has already agreed to it and will allow me to be his personal mentor. Another reason we believe he should stay in our palace is he has shown to be a bit shy around unicorns, pegasai and earth ponies. We feel it may help him regain the trust he has lost among them if he's around my sister, myself and even our niece more. Thirdly is due to this," Luna removes this amulet that was around Crimson neck and the council gasps including Cadence, "We're sure thou are all aware that this amulet that was found around his neck is only able to be worn by those of royal blood, or the necklace will refuse to be placed upon the ponies neck because of the enchantment. So, this proves that he is of royal blood, and as such provides him every right to remain here at the Castle. We know not where his lineage goes back to, it may be a distant relation of our own, but he is of royalty none the less." "I do not wish to question your assumption, but we must be sure that this is in fact the so called amulet you speak of. Much evidence proves he is of royalty, but I have seen where ponies will make exact replicas to try and pass off as the real thing," states Lord Gold Wing. "Very well, I shall call in Misty, our records keeper," Celestia replies, already sensing the enchantment, but wishing to humor the other ponies. Celestia gives subtle winks to her younger sister and niece while no pony was looking. Soon, Misty is brought in and she bows in respect, "You called for me your majesty?" Misty asks, hoping she hadn't done something wrong. "Yes, Misty, we need you to attempt to put this amulet around your neck," Celestia answers. "Is that all your highness?" Misty asks in curiosity. "Yes, that will be all," Celestia replies. "As you wish your highness," Misty says as she attempts to put the amulet over her neck. After trying and failing to put the amulet around her neck for five minutes, Misty gives up, "I don't understand why your highness, but I cannot place the Amulet over my head, it's as if it has a mind of it's own." "It is alright, this just proves that the blood in your family has no signs of royal lineage, do not take this to be a way to hurt your pride, I am glad to have you as our records keeper here, for I can think of no pony better suited for such a task, Misty," Celestia says. "Well thank you your majesty, now, I shall be off if my services here are no longer needed," Misty replies as she hoofs the amulet back to Celestia. "Yes, you may go Misty," Celestia informs her. Misty bows and soon trots out the door and gives Crimson a friendly smile while no pony else was looking. "So, as you can see, this amulet is meant for royalty to wear only, usually children, and it proves Crimson himself is of royal blood. Judging from the markings on this amulet, it is the status of prince. Any pony in this room would be able to wear the amulet as well if they are of such status, such as yourself Blueblood," Celestia says. "I see, and I do agree with your claim Princess Celestia, this is indeed for members of royalty who are prince or princess, making it clear that he is of royal blood. I do suppose the only reasonable choice is to let him stay here. I don't know if anypony noticed, but young little Crimson seemed to tremble at the mention of an orphanage. To send him there after finding out about his lineage... Well, it would make every noble here look and sound like complete tyrants," Blueblood states. "I am surprised that you agree so fast to this Blue Blood," Cadence says, speaking her peace. "I am doing my best to turn over a new leaf. It's been brought to my attention that many ponies disapprove of my behavior, and I wish better myself to earn the respect of our subjects dear cousin. Also, I am trying to better my political skills and see the situation from all points of view.I have to admit, my teenage behavior and personality have not been up to royal standards. I do not wish to repeat some of my mistakes from the last Grand Galloping Gala," Prince Blue Blood replies. "I see, and yes, it would look very bad on our part. Now I'm sure that some of you are more then willing to let him stay, and I am sure my Aunts will help teach him how to behave like a 'proper' prince. I too shall teach him as well, so I don't see any argument for him to stay here," Cadence says, thinking about how cute she thought little Crimson was. "Thank you for your opinions in this matter. Now, does anypony here object to what we have discussed? Any disagreements or arguments they wish to state? If so speak now," Celestia looks around for any pony who was in disagreement and no pony had anything to say against it. She continues, "Then as of this moment, Crimson Shield is given the right to live at the palace and shall be addressed properly as Prince Crimson Shield, his highness or his majesty when greeted or spoken to in public aside from my sister, my niece and my nephew and myself, who will be given permission to call him Crimson. This meeting is adjourned and the meeting upon the matter of the griffon attack on Crimson's family shall be held in one week to decide the best course of action on what should be done to atone for the death of Crimson's family, are we all clear?" Celestia asks. "Yes your majesty," the council answers in unison. "Then all nobles here are free to go about their business here and I shall be in the throne room to attend to matters of day court, thank you all for coming," Celestia replies. The council bows and soon make their way out of the conference room and out of the Palace to go about their days, many making positive comments about Crimson and how brave he was to come forth about his hardships he faced. As Celestia spoke to her niece about how Blueblood's behavior improved, she made her way to Day Court. Luna lead Crimson to the dining hall to get a bite to eat, knowing that he had to be hungry after the long meeting that went on til about lunch time. > Lunch and Getting To Know The Alicorn of Love. > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Luna and Crimson soon make their way through the palace to the dining room. Word of Crimson's lineage quickly spreads, and is greeted as 'Your Highness', or 'Prince Crimson', and other such titles. The ponies all begin to bow in respect for the colt. He feels it is a bit odd, but knows now that they will do this a lot and he will have to get used to it. Soon they make their way through the dining hall, and as if the ponies had expected his permanent stay at the castle, a chair made for his size was sitting close to where Princess Luna herself sat. Luna pulls out the chair for him and allows him to climb on. Once he finds a comfortable position, Luna pushes his chair towards the table and asks, "So, what would you like for lunch dear?" "Well, I would like to have a tiger lily sandwich, some tomato soup and *cheese buttons* if that's okay," Crimson replies. Luna is surprised for Tiger Lily was among Luna's favorite flowers, but cheese buttons was foreign to her. She calls in the chef and he says, "Yes your highness, how may I serve you and the little prince?" "Yes, would you be able to bring Prince Crimson and us some tiger lily sandwiches, tomato soup for young Crimson, a lunar salad for ourself, and some cheese buttons for both Crimson and myself?" Luna requests. "Yes I can. It has been many moons since I made a batch of cheese buttons, uh, no pun intended your highness," Chef Dumpling says sheepishly. "Oh, it's quite alright, we actually find that comment to be quite funny. Oh, and we would also like some Zap Apple Juice and water for drinks," Luna replies with a giggle. "Well, I will not keep you waiting and have your dishes ready as soon as possible," Dumpling informs them before giving a quick bow and heading back to the kitchen to inform his fellow chefs what to prepare. As Luna and Crimson wait for their meals, Luna sees that Crimson is deep in thought. "What is it young one, what's troubling you?" Luna asks. Crimson looks at her, "It's just I never knew I was royalty. This is just so much to find out and... I don't know if I can get used to ponies bowing before me all the time. What if no pony likes me once they meet me? What if I'm not prince material? What if they make fun of me? What if-" Luna covers his mouth with a hoof and says, "So many thoughts and questions for such a young colt. You need to slow it down, dear. Yes, a lot of changes will be coming, but it's not like you will become prince material overnight, that will take time, trust me. My sister and I weren't exactly the most well behaved fillies when we were your age. We got ourselves into trouble more times then I can remember. While you live here, my sister, my niece, myself, and maybe even my nephew will be helping to teach you how to be a prince. We'll also do our best to help you fit in, and when you feel comfortable enough, we will let you meet those who live outside the palace, from Canterlot to Ponyville." "Are you going to teach me magic and flying too Luna?" Crimson ponders. "Yes, I will, you have so much potential, you may even give my sister's student, Twilight Sparkle a run for her magic. And we definitely need to strengthen those cute little wings of yours if your going to fly long distances once you are older. I think I may know a certain somepony, actually two certain someponies who can help you with your flying and your confidence. I'm sure they would be more then happy to help," Luna states. Crimson was curious who she meant, and was about to ask who they were when he heard the kitchen doors open, and Chef Dumpling come through with their meals, "Your lunch is served, your majesties. Four appetizing tiger lily sandwiches, a hot bowl of sweet tomato soup for the young prince, a delectable lunar salad for the Princess of Night, and my very own mouthwatering and delicious cheese buttons. I do hope you find your lunch very enjoyable along with the drinks you requested." "Thank thou, Dumpling, we are sure thou has other food orders that need thou's attention so we will not keep thee waiting," Luna replies. "Thank you your highness," Dumpling says before bowing and taking off to the kitchen again. Luna then looks to Crimson and says, "Well go ahead dear, dig in." "B-but what if somepony comes in while we're eating, I don't want to look like a.... what's the word?.... Oh yeah, a slob in front of them. Do you think you could teach me how to eat properly like a prince right now, Luna?" Crimson asks with pleading eyes. Luna smiles, "Of course little one." Luna then shows him how to properly use the fork and spoon with his magic. After a few attempts, and a little help from Luna, he starts to get used to it, but still ended up making a mess. Just as they were about to eat their cheese buttons, Cadence walks in. "Well hello there, Crimson," Cadence says as she pulls up a seat next to the pair. "H-hi," Crimson nervously replies. "I can certainly see you are enjoying your meal, are those cheese buttons I see? I can't remember when the last time I had that dish was; those are really good," Cadence says. "Well Crimson and myself were about to have a bite of them. Would you like to have one of mine dear niece?" Luna asks. "I don't mind if I do, Aunt Luna," Cadence replies. Soon, all three alicorn in the room had their fill of cheese buttons, and lunch was then finished. Luna was delighted to have tried the cheese buttons and now listed them as a favorite dish of hers. Soon, they made it back to the lunar chambers to converse without interruption. "Now your belly is all full I see; you sure eat a lot for a little one," Cadence says before poking Crimson's side. "Hehehe, don't I'm ticklish," Crimson giggles. "Oh, you arrrrrrrre?" Cadence questions with a sly grin and a wink at Luna. "Uh oh," Crimson says, realizing he made a huge mistake revealing one of his weaknesses. Before Crimson has a chance to make a run for it, Cadence and Luna have him on his back on Luna's bed, tickling his sides and other ticklish areas. Crimson couldn't stop laughing. He feels this is the most fun he's had in a while and he doesn't know when it will end. All three alicorn mares had gained his trust, now he just had to meet more ponies and get to know them. He now starts to believe that Luna was right, that he will warm up to other ponies. Only time will tell now. As it comes around one o'clock in the afternoon, Crimson begins to yawn, feeling a bit drowsy. "Oh, looks like a certain little somepony could use a nap," Cadence says, smiling at Crimson's cute yawning. "Yes, you've had a big morning and need some rest little one. Go ahead and sleep. Cadence and I will be right here when you wake up," Luna says. With Luna's reassuring words, Crimson can no longer keep his head up or his eyes open and collapses at Luna's side. Luna places a wing over him to keep him warm and pulls him close to make him feel safe. Cadence watches the scene unfold and thinks her heart just stopped for a moment. "Awww, he looks so cute when he sleeps. How could anypony have mistreated a sweet little innocent face like that?" Cadence asks as she watches Crimson sleep. "How indeed, I don't know if I will hold back if I ever find the ponies responsible for his mistreatment," Luna says in anger. "Now, Auntie, don't go getting your mane in a tangle. If we do ever meet them, they should be put on trial for foal abuse. No foal should have to go through what he did, and it is unfair to all the poor little ones out there who are treated as such. I will say this though, if those griffons responsible for his parents death ever attempt him harm, I don't know if I will hold back," Cadence says. Luna was a little surprised to see this side of Cadence, but she knew it was not intended for any means of dark and evil. "I agree with you there Cadence. We need to get to the bottom of this and find out if it was rouge griffons, or was ordered by the whole of the griffon kingdom," Luna says. Crimson stirs a bit from the noise. "Oops, better be more quiet," Luna whispers. "So what made you decide to speak to him normally when you met him?" Cadence asked quietly. "Well, seeing his scared state, it seemed like the right thing to do," Luna answers. "Maybe you should try it more often with the rest of Equestria. I know your one for tradition, but I think many find the royal "we" and the Royal Canterlot Voice a little too old fashioned and a bit over the top. I know it may be difficult but just give it some thought. It may help with your own approach on modern society," Cadence recommends. "I think I will put thought into that, I actually have had more then one occasion of going a bit over the top. I guess some old habits can die hard," Luna says. "Where did you learn that phrase?" Cadence asks. "Right before I left Baltimare, I heard some of the city ponies say the phrase, though at first I was unfamiliar how to use the phrase," Luna informs her. "Well, no pony's perfect, not even Alicorn. Hey, have you heard of this new show mare? She calls herself, how does she say it? Oh yes, "The Great and Powerful Trrrixie," Cadence says as she poses. Luna giggles, "I can't say that I have, why has she been stirring up trouble?" "No, she just makes outlandish claims about how powerful her magic is and even claimed to have defeated an Ursa Major, which would be impressive to say the least, but I won't believe it until I see it happen," Cadence states. "Well that is an outlandish claim, but I wouldn't press your luck with her performing such a feat," Luna says. "Meh," Cadence replied. The two princesses spent much of the afternoon talking about the many things happening in Equestria. Luna got a laugh out of Twilight's indecisiveness to choose between her friends about who should go to the Grand Galloping Gala. As they talked, Crimson was visited in his dreams by somepony he did not expect. > Crimson's Vision > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As Crimson slept, for a moment he dreampt about his life at the orphanage again. That was until a he heard a voice. "So much pain for such a young mind," Said a female voice. "Wh-Who's there?" Crimson asked as everything around him was now black. "I've been watching you for a long, long time young one," the voice said again. "Who are you? Let me see you," Crimson demanded. For a brief moment after he said that, a bright light blinded his vision, making him shut his eyes. When the light dimmed down he saw an alicorn, slightly taller then Princess Celestia herself. Her mane waved as if the wind was blowing through it and showed what seemed to be images of many different types of plants and animals. Her fur coat was white and her eyes as blue as the ocean. "Who... who are you?" Crimson asked, completely amazed at the sight before him. "I am the mother of all living things, past, present, and future. I go by many names, but you and every other pony know me as Gaea," Gaea informed him. "Um, why are you here? Am I still dreaming, or am I awake," Crimson asked. "You are still very much asleep, but this is a special way that I have decided to meet you," Gaea said. "Wh-Why?" Crimson asked once more. "Because there are things I must show you. Many of the Alicorn ancestors and myself have been watching you for your entire life. We have seen the hardships you've had to deal with, and everything that has happened recently. Princess Luna is a great mentor and caring mare. She was right to take you in under her wing in your time of need. Now there is something that you must see, but be warned. What I am about to show you is not something that will be easy to watch nor forget," Gaea informed him. "O-okay," Crimson said nervously. "Are you ready young one?" Gaea asked. Crimson merely nodded. Soon Gaea made it seem as if they were going through a tunnel that was blurred by images that sped by too fast to see what was happening as Gaea cam to a stop, Crimson saw they were up on a balcony of some sort. The area where he was seem so familiar all of the sudden. Then he realized, this was his home. But how could he be here? He looked up at Gaea and she spoke, "This is a glimpse of what happened not too long ago in the kingdom you once resided in before your... parents' passing," she said with hint of guilt in her voice at the mention of his mother and father. Crimson then looked below and saw the ponies beginning to trot into the room. Then he saw what had been haunting his memories. His mother and father laid upon bed being carried by ponies of his family's kingdom. He then heard one of the ponies begin to sing a tune in ancient tongue meant for funerals. He listened as she sang. Tears streamed down his face as he continued to watch while they covered his parents in their tomb. Gaea did her best to comfort him and soon said, "There is something you must hear before we leave this memory." Crimson nodded and listened as a pony said, "Our beloved rulers of the East Kingdom of Equestria known as Trotsburg and second cousins to the Princesses of Day and Night were some of the greatest ponies any of us could have come to know. Their time on this earth has been shorter then what should have been. They were mother and father to a very young and talented little colt named Prince Crimson Shield. We know not where he is right now, but we do know he managed to escape with the set of hoof prints we saw that fled the scene. We can only hope our beloved prince will find his way back to us one day. Until further, we will have a steward and an old friend of the royal family remain as caretaker of this throne. May the spirits of our rulers help guide our ponies however they can as the watch over us with the ancestors of our past. Their legacy will live on through their subjects as we strive for a better tomorrow. Hail to our great rulers." "Hail," Said all the ponies in attendance. "It is time for us to leave young one," Gaea said. Crimson followed as they left the vision. Soon Gaea stopped and soon turned around and said once more, "Crimson, I know that when you left your kingdom with your parents, you had not yet known you were a prince. Your parents were waiting for the right time to tell you, but that chance had been taken from them. But now there is something more important for you to accomplish. You must tell Princess Luna and Princess Celestia of which kingdom of equestria you come from. When they know, tell them that you want to have Trotsburg become part of their kingdom. The ponies of your kingdom need a ruler and the steward can only be the caretaker for so long. And your kingdom is looking for answers about why this happened to their rulers. They'll need the help of the Princesses if they are to find the true culprits behind it. And there is so much for you to learn that you need to stay with the Princesses in Canterlot now. There is so much more I want to tell you, but I am only permitted to do so much. We may meet again in the future little Crimson, but for now, you must wake up and let the Princesses know of what has happened and what needs to be done. Can you do it little one?" Gaea asked in a caring manner. Crimson nodded. "Yes, I just hope things turn out for the best," Crimson said as he cried a bit. "They will, I promise. And something else will happen soon that will become of great importance to you, but what that is, you'll have to find out for yourself. goodbye little one, and never forget to show kindness and respect to others, even when they do not return the favor," Gaea said. "I won't, and thank you Gaea," Crimson said as he bowed in respect. Soon the light showed once more and with that Crimson awoke. He soon told Luna of what he had seen and what Gaea had requested of him. After his explanation, Luna made haste to have her sister meet with her. Celestia soon arrived and heard what Crimson had to say. Celestia understood what need to be done and soon said that she would need to arrange for a trip for her and Luna and Crimson to Trotsburg. She would leave the Kingdom's responsibility to Princess Cadence for the time being and send word to her fateful student about her leave of absence. Crimson was still wondering what it was that would be happening soon that Gaea had mentioned. As the day passed all four alicorns made their way down to the dining hall to have their dinner. > Looking Beyond the Feathers > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It had been a week since Crimson's people were introduced to Celestia and Luna's leadership. During that time, Crimson had noticed a certain pony that seemed out of place. Amethyst Hoof seemed to have had taken the role of the stewards right hoof adviser in Crimson's absence, but from what Crimson could remember, Amethyst was not well liked by Crimson's parents, nor many others who had been part of the royal staff. This didn't make any sense. But, Crimson thought he might be too quick to judge right now. He had to see how this pony operated. So far, he hadn't done anything out of the ordinary. Today, Celestia and Luna were meeting with the Griffon King and Queen. Crimson, having a bad run in with griffons, wasn't at all thrilled. Luna understood his feelings, and in all honesty didn't know how this was all going to play out. To avoid any unwanted attention in the wrong manner, Luna suggested that Crimson spend time in the Castle gardens. She knew that they gave Crimson some relaxation and a way to clear his head. He never argued with Luna recently, because one, he had no need to, and for another, with each passing day, she was feeling like a mother to him. As Luna and Celestia met with the Griffon royalty, they made their way past the gardens, and Crimson thought he caught a glimpse of something, but he was unsure since it they were only seen for a split moment. As Crimson made his way though the garden, he came upon a statue that, for some reason, looked familiar. He couldn't place his hoof on it though at the moment. His thoughts were interrupted as he heard a feminine voice say, "I see you admire mother Gaea." Crimson jumped in surprise and then saw who the voice belonged to. It was a griffon, but she was smaller and, seemed to be around his age. "Hey, no need to be scared. I won't bite," the griffon giggled. "S-sorry. You just caught me off guard, that's all," Crimson admitted. "I figured. So why were you staring at Gaea?" she asked. "Just, thinking," Crimson said, still feeling uneasy about her. The griffon then tilted her head, "Is something wrong? You seem a little tense... for a kid." Crimson sighed and gave an honest answer, "I-I just... I haven't been fond of griffons since my first run in with them." "Ah. I can guess you already met some, how did my parents say it? Oh yeah, unsavory characters of our kind," the griffon said. Crimson nodded. The griffon replied, "Thought as much. I've met a few of my own kind I am not fond of, but you should never judge a griffon by their claws. But I will say this, most of us have respect for the Magic of Friendship. In all honesty, we're a lot more alike with you ponies then you may think. As my parents say 'si si ni sawa'." "Your saying we're the same? I don't see how griffon," Crimson said. "Hmhm, the name's Helen. And I'll explain," the griffon said. This is a song that I got from the new show "The Lion Guard" so I do not take credit for the song and I did change some words around that I think would fit the tune. I would also suggest use of imagination of how the scene plays out somewhat after you have watched the song "Si Si Ni Sawa" on youtube. Here is a link: Si Si Ni Sawa Helen You've gone seen so many things, and you have felt a great few stings, and were turned away for having a horn and wings. You have to look past what you see, try not to judge so easily, believe it or not, you're a lot like me, ... say believe it or not you're a lot like me. Si si ni sawa means we're the same. Crimson I hear what you're saying, but you need to explain. Helen At the end of the day, it's like water and rain. Si si ni sawa we are the same. .......maybe I screech, maybe you neigh, but look at this a different way, because our hearts may have something to say, Cause we both know a higher call, like every creature big and small, the Magic of Friendship should be what's guiding us all. The Magic of Friendship will guide us all. Si Si Ni Sawa means we're the same. Crimson You have your feathers, and I have a mane. Helen At the end of the day, it's like water and rain. Si si ni sawa we are the same. Helen and Crimson Si Si Ni Sawa we are the same. Crimson Never thought that we'd see eye to eye. Helen I can't imagine why. It's some much easier if you tryyyyy. Crimson Still to me they all are brand new thoughts, not to judge a griffon by their claaaaws. Helen Si Si Ni Sawa, Si Si Ni Sawa means we're the same. Crimson Forget about the past, when there's nothing to gain. Helen and Crimson At the end of the day, it's like water and rain. Si si ni sawa we are the same, Si Si Ni Sawa means we're the same, Forget about the past, when there's nothing to gain. At the end of the day, it's like water and rain. Si si ni sawa we are the same. Helen Si Si Ni Sa Wa we are the saaame. end of song Crimson smiled, "Thanks Helen. I guess I was a little quick to judge you. Sorry about that." "It's alright. I can understand. I mean, I heard about what happened, even the parts the grownups didn't want me to. I am really sorry for what happened to you. You deserved far better than that, but I am glad you found your way here, or this may never have been known by my parents," Helen said. "Wait who are your parents?" Crimson said. "The King and Queen of the Griffon Kingdom. If you're wondering why I don't have my crown, I'm not really fond of wearing it, but I can tell I am not the only one," Helen pointed at him. Crimson blushed. He had to admit he wasn't fond of his regalia either, and much rather prefer not to wear it. "So that makes you... Princess Helen?" he asked. "Yep yep yep," Helen replied. "Wow, oh, and to answer your question from before. The reason I was looking at Gaea's statue was well, this may be hard to believe, she visited me in my dreams. Told me where I came from. What I was," Crimson told Helen. "Wow. Seeing Gaea, that's something only few have ever gotten to see. You're a lucky pony," Helen said. "Thanks," Crimson said. They're conversation was soon interrupted as they saw their guardians and a few nobles step into scene. Crimson heard the griffon king say, "I am glad we could clear things up your majesty, and I swear to you, I will find the ones who are responsible for such treachery. I cannot stand for such crimes. And I will be sure to inform you if I find them." Crimson would be thankful for that, but he froze in place for a moment when he saw a face that was all too familiar. His pupils went to the size of pins as he layed eyes on him. How could he be here? The last thing Crimson expected was to see him. As the griffons left and their daughter bid her new friend goodbye, Crimson finally sprinted to Luna and hugged her leg close. "Crimson... what's wrong? You're trembling. What's going on?" Luna asked. "It... it was him. That... that griffon with the royal griffons....... He killed my parents," Crimson answered, his knees were wobbling. Luna's eyes went wide as she stared at the griffon with the battle scar. She was about to charge him when Celestia stopped her. "Not yet sister," Celestia said. "Not yet?! We're letting a murderer get away!" Luna bellowed. "Yes, but if we charge him, he'll know we're onto him, and he will come up with a story to cover his tracks to turn the Griffon King against us. We must be patient and plan carefully. This may be deeper then we think. Now, I have a plan. Do you trust me?" Celestia asked. Luna looked one more time and saw the griffon shake his claw with the hoof of an all too familiar pony. She knew her sister was right. "Alright, but we can't keep this going for too long," Luna said. "Agreed," Celestia, answered. After the carriage left, Luna looked to Crimson. "Crimson, I was wondering if I could talk to you in private for a moment. There's something I want to tell you," Luna said. "Okay," Crimson breathed with relief the murderer was far away for a while. Soon, the two trotted to the Lunar chambers to have their discussion, while elsewhere, far off the borders of Equestira, dark eyes stared towards the land.
