> My Little Clone Wars > by ThunderDasher07 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter I: Prologue and a New World > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A new friendship opens the door to new adventures. The Outer Rim is in chaos! As the Clone Wars continue to rage across the galaxy, nowhere is safe from the carnage of battle. Evil and corruption are everywhere, with even the criminal underworld taking advantage of the state of unrest. Sinister motives and greed are always at play. In the Trilon sector near the planet of Rattatak, Republic forces have cornered a Separatist fleet. Leading the attack are Jedi Generals Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Commander Ahsoka Tano. As the heated battle continues, our heroes have no knowledge of the adventure that soon awaits them…. In the vast blackness of space, only the small stars light up the endless vacuum. The sound of turbolaser fire could be heard. The durasteel plating of the capital ships was scorched by battle. The red and blue colored lasers crisscrossed each other as the enemy ships exchanged fire. There were shouts and screams of Republic clone troopers and Separatist droids as their ships were hit. The Open Circle Fleet currently had five ships, which consisted of two Venator-class star destroyers, one Acclamator-class assault ship, one Arquitens-class light cruiser and one Consular-class cruiser. As starfighters whizzed past the large triangular viewport windows, Anakin stood on the bridge of the Judicator, calmly surveying the battle before him. His dark garments were motionless as he had his hands behind his back and his legs slightly apart from each other. He watched as the first of the last two Munificent-class star frigates was destroyed. Rex, in his white armor with dyed blonde hair and a buzz cut, approached him. “It appears to be a clear victory, General,” Rex stated confidently. “Yes, it does, Rex,” Anakin agreed. An alert sounded off as a crew member shouted, “Sir, incoming enemy reinforcements are coming out of hyperspace!” An auburn-bearded man, Obi-Wan, looked shocked and asked, “How many?” “Three, sir,” a crewman answered from his station in the sunken crew pit. A Recusant-class light destroyer came out of light speed and was flanked by two Munificent-class frigates. The destroyer appeared behind the last remaining ship of the previous fleet. The smoldering, Munificent-class frigate turned as it tried to get out of the way. The pleas of the droids were heard over the comms as the destroyer rammed the ship with its prow, causing an explosion that split it in half. The OOM command battle droid on the destroyer bridge said, “Oops! That was our ship. Oh well!” It then ordered, “Take out those Republic forces!” The rest of the droids responded with a chorus of “Roger, roger!” They fired upon the smaller escort ships and were quickly overwhelmed. “We’re taking heavy fire!” They heard over the comms system. “Losing shields!” The Consular-class cruiser didn’t have much of a chance to avoid the laser fire and then exploded. “We lost the Star Emissary,” one crewman said. The Arquitens-class cruiser, the Freedom, made several maneuvers as it tried to get out of the firing range. Its command bridge was taken out by a few Vulture droid fighters as they screeched past. The frigate fired several shots at the cruiser, causing it to break up into pieces. “Another two are incoming sir,” a crew member announced. Two more Munificent-class frigates came out of hyperspace behind the other enemy reinforcements. “Move back into a retreating position,” Obi-Wan ordered as he stumbled from an explosion that hit the ship. Anakin instructed, “Tell all fighters to come back to the hangar.” “Yes sir,” said one of the crewmen sitting below. The ventral central hangar opened as ARC-170 fighters and V-19 Torrent starfighters rushed to try to land inside the ship. Once all the fighters were in, the hangar doors slowly closed. A few Vulture droid fighters and a Hyena-class bomber made a kamikaze run as they dived into the hangar, causing several explosions and damage. All through the ship, the emergency siren began wailing. Many who were standing on the bridge stumbled from the tremors of the explosions. R2 let out a shrill electrical scream. As they were making their retreat, the Acclamator-class, Russet Knight, was hit by enemy laser fire, followed by several explosions in the stern. Their engines were hit and began to flicker before losing power. “Go on, our engines are damaged!” This just left the two star destroyers, the Judicator and Liberator, to fend for themselves. The Judicator boosted power to its engines as the capital ship rocketed away from the space battle. On the bridge of the Separatist destroyer, the command droid watched as the Republic capital ships fled. “Shouldn’t we follow them? They are getting away,” a droid asked. “Negative, our orders were to only cripple their fleet,” the commander stated. Ahsoka went over to the holographic map and began searching for a nearby planet. “We need to find somewhere to land,” Rex commented. “Master, it looks like there is a planet nearby. It appears to be habitable and has a single moon, but it isn’t in any Republic records,” Ahsoka said. Anakin nodded and replied, “Seems like the entire system is unrecorded.” Kenobi stroked his beard, remarking, “Ah well, the Outer Rim has a history of worlds being discovered, abandoned and rediscovered years or sometimes centuries later.” “Or it was purposefully erased like Kamino. There’s only one way to find out,” Anakin added. “Prepare our descent into the atmosphere,” he declared, as he told the crew to brace for impact. The capital ship started to drop into the unknown planet’s atmosphere. Fluttershy was standing outside her cottage on the edge of the Everfree Forest. The mare was busy feeding some nearby rabbits when she looked up with a gasp to see a strange, large object hurtling towards the ground. Her mouth hung open and her knees trembled, staring at it. She heard a loud booming sound as it disappeared beyond the horizon. “Oh, I have to tell the girls!” she exclaimed, her voice trembling as she rushed off in the direction of town. After entering Ponyville, Fluttershy galloped to Golden Oaks Library, the home of her friend, Twilight Sparkle. She opened the door to see another five mares there. “Oh thank goddess, all of you are here!” She said, with a look of terror on her face. “What’s wrong, Fluttershy?” Twilight asked. Fluttershy panted from running all the way. Applejack said, concerned, “Try ta catch y’all’s breath, sugar cube.” Fluttershy took a few, slow, deep breaths. “Ok… Did everypony hear that loud boom?” She asked. “Yeah, we were about to check it out,” Dash answered. “I saw it when I was feeding my bunnies! It was something big! I don’t know if it was a monster or an airship, but it was scary,” she replied. “But we gotta done go check it out,” AJ responded. The group trotted out of Golden Oaks with the little dragon, Spike following behind. “Hey! Wait for me,” he shouted. They were led back to Fluttershy’s cottage. They looked around as Applejack asked her, “So where did this here thang land?” She pointed an unsteady hoof in the direction where the black smoke was coming from in the distance. “Maybe it was a dragon?” Twilight questioned. “It didn’t look like a dragon at all,” Fluttershy answered. “But what if it is dangerous?” Twilight added. “Well my middle name is danger. I say let’s go find out,” Rainbow Dash replied as the six mares moved towards the source of the smoke. On the bridge of the Venator-class star destroyer, the crew was beginning to recover from their landing. The siren was still blaring. “Well, that could have been worse,” Obi-Wan sarcastically commented, then said, “Admiral, status report.” “The ship suffered minimal damage and casualties. As for the hangars, all fighters are in working condition despite the damage done by the enemy fighters,” Admiral Wullf Yularen answered. “Sir, we have just started to send out a distress signal, but it will take some time for anyone from the Republic to reach us,” a communications officer said. “Let’s hope the Separatists don’t find us first, because otherwise, both we and the planet will be in danger,” Obi-Wan replied. “Have you heard anything from the Liberator?” Anakin asked. “No, we haven’t. We might need to assume we lost them,” Admiral Yularen stated. Anakin tightened his fist in frustration and responded, “Keep trying.” “Our scanners have picked up a settlement not far from us. The atmosphere appears to be type one. So we should be fine outside the ship,” Captain Rex informed them. “Then maybe we should start there,” Ahsoka said. “Commander Cody, you are in charge of the clones while we are gone,” Obi-Wan stated. “Yes, sir,” Cody responded with a salute. The three Jedi and the clone trooper captain walked out into the field where they had landed. “I think it is best we make the trek on foot. We don’t want to attract attention to ourselves,” said Anakin. The weather was warm with a few white clouds in the clear blue sky as the single yellowish sun was shining brightly above them. They were standing in a large green field with a flowing river not far from them. There was a large forest to their right and to their left were a few hills, beyond which were mountain peaks. In front of them, further away by more than fifty miles, was another mountain range that had the tallest mountain in the area. There appeared to be a city built on its western side. The planet looked like it hadn’t seen a day of pollution. Rex took off his helmet as they moved. He took in the calm scenery around him. “I’ve been on peaceful worlds before, but this one feels different,” he commented. “All the more reason to not bring our war here,” Kenobi replied. Anakin glanced over at Obi-Wan and asked, “Do you sense it?” His former master nodded, “Yes, The planet is very strong in the Force.” “The Force works in mysterious ways,” he replied. Several birds flew past them and a few squirrels and rabbits went by. Ahsoka said with a smile, “The animals don’t seem afraid.” As they continued on their journey, they noticed six multicolored quadruple creatures on the horizon. The purple-colored one, which had a smaller creature on its back, seemed to be leading them. “Seems like our landing has attracted the attention of the locals,” Rex stated. As the creatures came closer, they started to hear voices. The first noises they heard sounded like horse whinnies and neighs. It initially seemed like they were another herd of animals that were coming through the area. “Whoa! That’s huge,” exclaimed Rainbow Dash, who was flying. “At least we know they speak Basic,” Anakin remarked. “M-maybe we should go back home…” Fluttershy said nervously in a stammering voice. “I think we should be cautious. We don’t know who or what is with that thing,” Twilight reminded them. “We ain’t dat close,” AJ replied. “I think I see someone everypony,” Twilight announced. “They are very strange looking,” she said. “Do they look aggressive?” Rarity asked. “What about weapons?” Applejack added. “I can’t tell… but one seems to be wearing armor,” she answered to both of them. “Don’t make any sudden movements,” Kenobi advised. As they made their way over to the war heroes, the group approached with caution. The natives were smaller than they had expected, about the height of a child. Their heads came to their waists. Upon closer examination, they looked familiar as the galaxy had a few species that were equinoid or equine-like non-sentient species. They were also not the only brightly colored species in the galaxy. The ponies stared up at the strangers. They were bipedal like dragons. “Is that armor you wearin’?” Applejack asked. “Yes, I’m a soldier, but we aren’t here to fight you. We come in peace,” replied Rex. “You speak Ponish?” Rarity asked. Anakin blinked. He had a confused look on his face. “I think you mean Basic.” This caused Rarity to give him a perplexed look. Fluttershy sniffled, “Oh, I hope all the little animals are ok and not hurt when you crashed in the field.” “Aah reckon they are doin’ fine,” AJ reassured her. “What are you doing here and what are you?” Twilight demanded. “Our ship crashed landed and we are waiting for someone to pick us up,” Rex answered. “We are human and she is a Togruta,” explained Kenobi. “I’m Obi-Wan Kenobi,” he said and introduced the others. “This is Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano and Rex.” Twilight greeted them, “I’m Twilight Sparkle and these are my friends: Applejack, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash and this is Spike. He is my assistant.” The purple scaled dragon waved. Twilight stared at the star destroyer, trying to wrap her mind around how it could fly. She was also trying to deal with the fact that Equestria wasn’t the only place where life existed. There were other planets in the galaxy with living creatures and aliens! It was something that she never really contemplated until now. “So that thing flies? Awesome!” Dash said. “We are ponies. We are divided into three races: unicorn, pegasus and earth pony. Unicorns can use magic, pegasus can fly and earth ponies have strength. Rarity and I are unicorns. Pinkie and Applejack are earth ponies. Rainbow and Fluttershy are pegasus. Spike is a dragon,” Sparkle said. “I like your um… hair,” Pinkie commented to Ahsoka as she stared at the tentacle-like things on her head. “It isn’t hair. They are what is called lekku. All of my species have them,” she told her. It was clear from speaking to the little equines that this planet and system had been cut off from the rest of the galaxy for all of its history. “We were on our way to the nearby settlement. Do you think we can continue this conversation there?” Rex told them. “Sure, we just came from there,” Dash replied. They turned around and headed back the way they came. Ponyville appeared to be a quaint little town upon arrival. Most of the buildings were white, timber-framed with thatched roofing. As they passed in the streets, the Republic heroes saw ponies of various colors, races and ages, from the youngest foal to the elderly. They also noticed that stallions were slightly larger and taller than mares. They knew that they were being stared at by the residents since they were unknown to pony kind. When the group reached a large tree, Twilight opened the door using her magic. The four visitors had to slightly duck to get inside. The walls were covered with built-in book shelves and there was a large table in the center of the room. “Welcome to the Ponyville public library,” Twilight exclaimed. Ahsoka had noticed the strange symbols on the ponies and asked the question they all were wondering. “What are those markings you have?” she asked, looking at Pinkie. Pinkie Pie looked at her flank and responded, “Huh? You mean my cutie mark? It’s what everypony gets when they find their special talent.” She followed up with, “Does it hurt?” Pinkie shook her head and said, “Nope! It isn’t a tattoo. It just poofs and appears.” “Where exactly are we and who is your leader?” Obi-Wan asked. Twilight answered, “You are in the nation of Equestria. We are co-ruled by our sister princesses, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna.” “Where are they located?” Anakin asked. “The princesses live in the castle at Canterlot, darling. It’s located on the highest mountain north of town. Ponies that are very posh,” Rarity answered. “We saw that mountain on our way over here,” Rex remarked. “May we request a meeting with them?” Kenobi inquired and continued, “I’m sure they were alerted to our presence when our ship crashed.” Twilight replied, “I’ll send them a message right away.” She started to write a letter to the princess to request an urgent meeting as her quill lit up with her magic aura. Anakin turned to his three companions and said, “In the meantime, we need to pick up some supplies from the ship. We’ll be back to find out their response.” The group left the library and headed back to the ship. When she finished writing, Spike grabbed it and sent it off in a flash of green fire. > Chapter II: Meeting the Princesses > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anakin and Ahsoka stepped through the long octagonal door as it slid open and entered the bridge’s control room, where Commander Cody and Admiral Yolaren stood. “What is our status report, Admiral?” he requested. Admiral Yolaren turned to him and replied, “Nothing yet, sir.” Obi-Wan came in behind them and sighed as Anakin brought up the holomap. “Which Republic fleets were closest to us prior to our crashed?” He asked. “Master Plo Koon and the 104th Battalion are currently located on Bunduki. Grand Master Yoda is on a diplomatic mission to Houche,” Yolaren replied. The map zoomed in on the area of where they were in the galaxy. “Both of those star systems aren’t far from us,” Obi-Wan commented. “Depending on the vessel and hyperdrive class, they could be here within a few hours to a week.” “If the Separatists do find us first, I don’t know if Master Yoda will have enough reinforcements,” Anakin responded. The communications officer at the comms station turned around to face them. “We sent our message to all of the nearest fleets. If they received it immediately, it shouldn’t take long for a reply,” he stated. Anakin then heard the familiar woo, wah, woo sound come from behind him. When he turned around, he saw the white and blue astromech droid, R2-D2. “Good to see you, old friend,” he said with a smile. The astromech replied with a few excited beeps. “R2, you’re coming with us.” He told him. The droid expressed his enthusiasm by letting out a few happy chirping noises and swaying a little from side to side. “Keep us informed of any new developments by comlink,” Kenobi said. “I will, General,” said Yolaren. The group left the ship and headed in the direction of Ponyville. It was the middle of the afternoon when the group of three Jedi, one clone trooper and one droid entered Golden Oaks Library, where the mane six and Spike were still present. Twilight smiled as she saw them enter. “Good news!” she exclaimed as she used her magic to hold up the letter, “Princess Celestia and Luna have agreed to meet with you in Canterlot.” “That’s good news indeed,” Obi-Wan replied. WOOO, BEEP, BEEP, BOOP! “What was that?” Fluttershy was startled by it and asked. R2-D2 rolled out from behind his companions. The astromech matched the ponies in height. The ponies stared at the droid as they tried to understand what the mechanical machine was. Anakin put his hand on him and said, “This is R2-D2. He is a droid, a machine.” R2 glanced over the room, getting a feel for his surroundings. His head spun three hundred and sixty degrees. They had a look of surprise when this happened. The only thing that came close to doing that was Twilight’s pet, Owlowiscious. Twilight was very curious about the droid, wondering just how it worked. She had an interest in technology and had built some machines of her own. The astromech turned his head towards Anakin and made a few curious beeps. “Yes, R2.” He made several fast jabberings. “You can understand him?” Fluttershy asked, raising an eyebrow. “Yes, I can,” he replied. “This little droid has saved us countless times.” Ahsoka asked Twilight, “So when do we leave?” “We leave immediately on the next train,” she answered. When they arrived at Ponyville’s train station, which, like most of the buildings in town, was brightly colored, including the train itself, it still relied on wheel-powered train cars and railroad tracks. Unlike the hovertrains they were used to, which utilized repulsorlifts and a track or none at all. They boarded an empty passenger car with the six ponies and Spike. The group took a seat. “So how were you able to get a message out to the princesses?” asked Anakin. “I’m Princess Celestia’s personal protégé. I was a student at her School for Gifted Unicorns in Canterlot before I was selected by her and moved to Ponyville to study friendship,” Twilight explained. “You must be extremely gifted to have such an honor,” Anakin commented. He certainly understood being the Chosen One. Ahsoka raised a brow in surprise. “Study friendship?” Her voice sounded slightly confused. Rarity came to Twilight’s defense. “Well, Twilight isn’t exactly the most outgoing pony around and would prefer to read books.” “What exactly are the princesses?” Kenobi asked. Twilight answered, “They are what are called an alicorn.” She explained, “They are a combination of all three pony species. Princess Celestia has been the ruler of Equestria for over a thousand years.” There were several species in the galaxy who lived several hundred years, like Wookiees or Master Yoda’s species, but species that lived several thousand years or more were few, such as the Hutts.” “Princess Celestia controls the sun and Princess Luna controls the moon,” she told them. The four of them, especially the Jedi, glanced at each other. They found that very hard to believe, as anyone capable of moving celestial objects had to be extremely powerful in the Force. The ride took a few hours for them to arrive at their destination. When the group arrived at the Canterlot station, they got off the train. It was early in the evening now, as the sun had started to go down. The sky was turning into a gradient of pink, orange and blue. The city of Canterlot was large and mostly consisted of white buildings. Many of them had turrets and ivory towers, which added to their elegance, especially when the spires were gold in color. They walked along the city’s cobblestone roads. Most of the pony residents were unicorns with some pegasus and earth ponies. The castle itself was massive and majestic, towering above the rest of the city. There were white tiled floors and large stained glass windows throughout the castle. They followed the central red carpet to the throne room doors. A guard pony trotted in before them and announced, “They are here, your highness.” “Send them in,” Celestia said. When the doors opened, they saw a large room that ended with a ramp to a raised throne. There were more stained glass windows on both sides of the room. On either side of the room, there were ponies in armor as guards. The ponies trotted in front of the group with R2 rolling in the back. The princesses trotted down to meet them. Their manes moved without the aid of the wind. They both had wings and horns. The taller, white pony almost met them at eye level. She had a long rainbow mane. The dark blue pony was half her height and had a blue mane with what seemed like shimmering stars. “Welcome to Canterlot,” greeted Celestia. “I’m Princess Celestia.” “I am her younger sister, Princess Luna,” stated Luna. The visitors bowed to them to show respect. “It is an honor to let us meet with you, your highnesses,” Obi-Wan said. “I am Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex and R2-D2,” he introduced. “Regretfully, our ship crashed south of Ponyville,” Anakin stated. “We apologize for any damage caused,” Kenobi added. “Yes, we saw when it happened and wondered what it was,” Luna said and continued, “We have never seen species like yours before.” Ahsoka clarified, “I am a species called a Togruta. They are called humans and R2 is a droid.” “You have never had contact with the wider galaxy?” Kenobi asked. “We are not aware of the wider galaxy. There is no record of having any contact outside of our world in our history,“ Luna replied. “R2, bring up the map,” Anakin said. The droid rolled in front of them as he shined a small light and brought up a holomap of the galaxy. They never thought that it would be so large. He went on to say, “Yours is just one of the many millions of star systems and one of the billions of life forms living in the galaxy.” He showed them the area where they were located. “Where do you come from?” “We come from the Galactic Republic,” Kenobi explained and continued, “The Republic is a democratic government that has stood in the galaxy for over ten thousand years. We are a part of the Jedi Order. We are the peacekeepers and guardians of the Republic. We are allied with the light side of the Force.” “The Force gives the Jedi their power and lives in all living things,” he said. “So it isn’t magic?” Twilight asked. “The Force and magic are two very different things,” Anakin answered. “With the Force, I can sense things before they happen. The Force can do many things magic is incapable of.” “This is a lightsaber, the weapon and tool of a Jedi. The blade is made of pure plasma energy,” Kenobi said as he took out his shiny metal lightsaber and activated it. The blue blade hummed to life. “There are few materials that can block a lightsaber.” “The galaxy is currently embroiled in a three-year long war known as the Clone Wars between the Republic and the secessionist Separatists,” Anakin told them. “The Separatists are led by a former Jedi, Count Dooku, who has fallen to the dark side and is a Sith, the enemy of the Jedi. They have a mechanical droid army,” Kenobi explained. “The Grand Army of the Republic consists of clones that were created by using a Mandalorian bounty hunter named Jango Fett.” “That makes me think of the time Pinkie used the Mirror Pool to make copies of herself,” Dash replied. “But those were totally different and also got out of hoof,” Pinkie commented. “We are hoping to be rescued by nearby Republic forces, but we fear that the enemy will find us first before they do,” Rex stated. “We do not want to drag you into our conflict, but it might become unavoidable,” Kenobi remarked. Celestia nodded her head, saying, “I understand. Pony kind has had major conflicts with each other in the past, over a millennium ago. We have solved situations with peaceful negotiations for a long time with other species, but that doesn’t mean we won’t fight if necessary.” “It will be nightfall by the time you arrive back in Ponyville. We can accommodate you here at the castle for the night if you wish,” she added. Luna turned and nodded her head in agreement. The Jedi exchanged glances with one another. “We are humbled by your offer,” Kenobi responded, before adding, “We accept.” “Wonderful,” Celestia replied. “Thank you for your time,” Kenobi said. “Thank you, it has been an honor to meet you, your highnesses,” Anakin remarked. They all bowed to the princesses. The cool evening air passed by Twilight as she opened her castle room door out to the balcony. A slight shiver ran down her back. As the moonlight illuminated the night sky, it was filled with glowing stars. They looked like millions of tiny pinholes in a darkened fabric. She was pondering over the information she told earlier that day at the meeting. Her ears twitched as she could hear the sound of hoof steps approaching her. “Ah, I knew you were still awake,” the voice said. She turned her head to see Princess Luna standing in the room. “Oh, good evening, Princess Luna.” “Good evening to you as well,” she replied. “My sister just went to bed after wishing your friends and our guests a good night,” she told her. “May I join you?” “Of course,” Twilight answered with a smile. She trotted out to join her on the balcony, staring at the stars. A shooting star streaked across the sky. “Beautiful night it is tonight,” she said. Twilight stayed quiet, focused on the stars, she was deep in thought wondering which stars she was seeing had planets with other life forms on them. She finally broke her silence. “It makes you look at the sky differently now, doesn’t it?” She turned her head to Luna. “There was an entire galaxy of other beings out there and we never knew it. All our history, we never thought about it or were visited.” Luna smiled. “I’m not certain. I’m sure some ponies thought about it, but just not seriously,” she replied. “You should get some rest.” Twilight trotted back inside and got into bed. Luna followed her and made her way to the door. “Good night Princess Luna,” she said and closed the balcony door with her magic. “Good night Twilight.” Luna smiled and said, “Sweet dreams.” She closed the chamber room door behind her and went down the hallway. > Chapter III: Ambush > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the endless sea of stars, a Separatist fleet jumped out of hyperspace in front of an unknown planet. It was led by the Providence-class destroyer, the Invisible Hand, the flagship of cyborg General Grievous. It was accompanied by two Recusant-class destroyers, two Munificent-class star frigates and one DH-Omni Support Vessel. The fleet began to move itself into a blockade position around the planet. His cape was as black as the vacuum of space. It swayed as he moved, his talon feet clicking on the cold metal floor. As Grievous coughed his way onto the ship’s bridge, a ST-tactical droid stood at attention next to the Neimoidian captain in his command chair. He wheezed when facing the droid. “General, we have arrived at the coordinates of the Republic distress beacon,” the droid informed him. “An unknown planet in the fourth orbital position of an unknown system.” One of the B1 battle droids stationed on the bridge remarked, “But I don’t see the ship anywhere.” The cyborg general ignored the comment from the droid. “Excellent…” “What are your orders?” the other asked. “Launch the probe droids to search for the Republic vessel,” he commanded, adding, “Jam their scanners, so our droids are undetected.” “Yes, sir,” it replied. “You heard the General.” Several B1 battle droids said in chorus, “Roger, roger.” The Providence-class dreadnought deployed a number of small pods. The probes blasted away into the planet’s atmosphere. They streaked across the sky and landed like meteors on the surface. Two of them landed on the outskirts of Ponyville, another landed past the Everfree Forest and a fourth landed near Canterlot. At one of the crash sites near Ponyville, a probe droid slowly emerged from the black, smoking crater. It had an elliptical head with a large, central bulbous photoreceptor along with a few smaller ones and several legs underneath. It let out a low humming sound. The droid hovered and began to search the area. It was early in the afternoon, two days after their trip to Canterlot. The six mares, five Republic heroes and Spike were outside of Fluttershy’s cottage. They were making conversation as R2 was playing with some animals. The astromech let out electrical beeping laughter. “Oh, do be careful with them,” Fluttershy commented with concern, turning to look at R2. “They will be fine,” Anakin reassured her. “He won’t harm them.” They turned back towards the others. “So your cutie marks, what do they mean? We have never heard of anything like it where we are from,” Ahsoka asked. Twilight explained, “Well, they appear when you discover your special talent. Each one is unique to everypony. My talent is proficiency in magic.” She went on, “Pinkie’s is organizing and throwing parties, Rarity’s is finding gems, Fluttershy’s is taking care of animals, Applejack’s is running her family’s apple farm and Rainbow Dash’s is flying fast.” Rex listened and asked, “Just when exactly does it occur?” “It is different for everypony, darling. Some ponies get theirs earlier than others and some get theirs later. We received our cutie marks all at the same time, but that is very rare indeed,” Rarity said. “Young-ins git their cutie before becomin’ teenagers. I ain’t see no pony with no cutie mark at that age,” AJ added. “We clones were bred for this war, it is what we were made for, but I’m proud to serve the Republic and fight alongside my Jedi comrades,” Rex said and inquired, “And you are all happy with what you have?” The ponies looked at each other and then all nodded their heads in agreement. The probe droid made its way to the cottage after searching for any sign of the enemy. It hovered low to the ground to not be detected and hid in some bushes behind the house. Its photoreceptor noticed the Republic heroes, identified each of them and quickly reported back its findings to the Invisible Hand. The three Jedi were suddenly bolted upright by a sensation in their minds that they were not alone. They felt like there was a presence nearby. Ahsoka swiftly ignited one of her lightsabers and hurled it, whirling at the bush. The droid attempted to dodge, but it was sliced in half with a hiss. She caught the saber when it returned to her. She deactivated her green lightsaber, putting it back on her belt. “Nice one, Ahsoka,” Anakin complimented his apprentice. The group stared down at the smoldering, severed remains, which emitted a few electrical sparks. The six ponies and Spike had looks of shock and surprise on their faces. R2 beeped and whistled alarmingly, his dome swerving back and forth. “Probe droid,” Ahsoka muttered, examining it. “Which means the Seps are in the system,” Rex added. “Now they know we are here.” “What the hay was that?!” Dash exclaimed. Fluttershy asked, stuttering, “W… what was that thing?” “It was a probe droid, meant for reconnaissance and spying purposes,” Rex replied. “Unfortunately, our enemy has found us first.” Twilight gasped in response, “We need to alert the princesses at once.” She rushed off to get a message out. “I need to find a pen and paper!” she shouted. “We need to get our troops over to Canterlot as soon as possible,” Anakin said, looking over at Rex and Obi-Wan. R2-D2 beeped affirmatively. Just then, Skywalker’s comlink started to beep. He pressed the flashing button on his wrist and answered it. “You have an update for us, Admiral?” “Yes, I do, sir,” Yularen told him. “We encountered a Separatist probe droid a short time ago.” “We just encountered one of them ourselves,” he informed the naval admiral, adding, “Prep two gunships for launch and have them directed to these coordinates.” Anakin gave the location of Fluttershy’s cottage. “Prepare all available starfighters and walkers as well. Rendezvous with us at this location, Point Spire,” he said as he gave the admiral the coordinates for Canterlot. “Right away, General Skywalker,” Yularen answered before the call ended. A few short minutes later, they heard a loud whining/humming sound approaching. The group saw two Low Altitude Assault Transport gunships as they circled overhead. The grass rippled in the wind as the ships came down for a landing outside of the cottage. The first gunship’s nose art featured a Kowakian monkey-lizard wielding a bomb called the Crumb Bomber. The nose art of the second gunship depicted a blue-skinned female Twi’lek in clone trooper armor known as the Lucky Lekku. Their cabin bay doors opened; inside were several clone troopers with orange markings, including Commander Cody. The other gunship had clones with blue markings like Rex. “Gunships as you requested, sir,” he said. “Do you have any news about our reinforcements?” Skywalker asked. “Yes sir, we just received word from General Yoda on Houche that he will be here within the standard hour. General Plo Koon will take slightly longer than him to get here,” Cody answered. “Let’s hope he has more than a few troopers with him,” Anakin remarked. The other responded, “He is bringing a division of the 41st Elite Corps with him.” “Well, that’s good news,” he replied. “The rest of our forces will be meeting us shortly at Point Spire,” Cody informed them. Despite having their helmets on, the ponies knew they were getting looks from the clone troopers in the gunships. “Anakin, you, Ahsoka and Rex go in the other gunship,” Kenobi instructed. “Yes, Master,” Anakin replied. “May the Force be with us,” Kenobi stated. Twilight, AJ and Rainbow Dash got on with Obi-Wan while Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie and Rarity went with Anakin and the others. Pinkie hopped on in like her usual self. R2 rolled into the gunship, letting out some positive tweets. Fluttershy’s legs were wobbly as she got inside. “I have a bad feeling about this,” she whimpered. The non-ponies held onto the handles attached to the ceilings. The doors closed on the LAAT gunships as they lifted off and headed towards Canterlot. Grievous’s piercing yellow animal-like eyes stared into the blackness of space as the tactical droid approached him. “General, we received the intel that our probe droids have gathered,” it stated. He coughed as he turned around. “Good.” “Their Republic ship did indeed crash on the planet’s surface,” the droid informed him. “One of the probes encountered a few Jedi before we lost contact with it. From what we received, it was one of General Kenobi and Skywalker’s star destroyers.” Grievous cackled at the news, “Excellent, I can finally finish off Kenobi once and for all and I can add his lightsaber to my collection.” “From the data we have received, the inhabitants of this planet are only in the early stages of industrialization,” the droid explained. “They do not appear to have any advanced weapons. I have calculated that the odds of them defeating us are a thousand to one, even with the support of the Republic forces.” “Those are good odds,” one nearby B1 droid commented. “Yeah, I nearly lost my head in the last battle,” another replied. Grievous growled and gave a cold glare at the battle droid. Then, with a hum and a swift flash of blue, he cut the droid in half with his lightsaber. “And now you have lost it,” he retorted back. Another battle droid took over the empty station. “Prepare all units for a ground assault,” Grievous commanded. “As you command, General Grievous,” the tactical droid responded. > Chapter IV: Battle of Equestria > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The LAAT gunships circled around the city of Canterlot with the loud sound of their repulsorlifts. Obi-Wan ordered the pilot, “Odd Ball, land in the open plaza in front of the castle.” “Yes, General,” he replied from the cockpit. The gunships touched down in the empty area and the bay doors of the ships opened. The red signal in the cabin turned green, indicating the time to depart. The clone troopers emptied out the gunships and secured the area. “Perimeter secured,” a clone trooper declared. The heroes entered the castle and made their way to the throne room. The princesses trotted down to meet them. “We received your message, Twilight,” Princess Luna said, adding, “We must defend Canterlot.” “In our rush to come here, I forgot for us to retrieve the Elements of Harmony from Golden Oaks in Ponyville.” Twilight informed the princesses. “I understand,” she replied. “However, I'm not sure how much good they'd do against these foreign invaders,” she added. “Can’t we just ask them nicely if they would leave us alone?” Fluttershy asked optimistically. “You know that ain’t goin' work, sugar cube,” AJ replied. “I can create the same magic bubble shield to protect the city that your brother, Shining Armor, made during his wedding when Queen Chrysalis attacked,” Celestia stated. “I’m not sure if your magic shield will work against laser fire,” Rex responded. Luna nodded in agreement and replied, “That may be, but we must protect our citizens.” Celestia and Luna’s horns glowed as they both shot a magic beam into the sky, combining to create a purple magic bubble around Canterlot. “We should move all civilians to safety and out of harm’s way,” Anakin said. “Is there anywhere they can be protected?” asked Ahsoka. Twilight nodded and answered, “The crystal caves under Canterlot.” The princesses nodded. “Indeed, that should be a safe place,” Luna said, agreeing with her. They quickly rounded up and brought as many of the younger and elderly ponies down to the crystal caves as possible. These were the same caves where Twilight and Princess Cadance were held prisoner by the changeling queen. Anakin, Obi-Wan, Rex and Ahsoka helped evaluate the ponies from the city. The royal guards were split into two groups, one of which would stay here to protect the other ponies. The other group, mostly consisting of unicorns and some pegasi, would fight against the enemy. Ahsoka looked around the caverns. They were larger than she expected and seemed to go on for miles. There was a mine cart and a railway track going through the caves that were clearly abandoned long ago. “Twilight wasn’t kidding, these caves are huge!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed. The crystals consisted of a variety of different colors. She knelt down to more closely examine some of the crystals. “Master, these crystals—” she said in a surprised voice. “Yes, they are kyber crystals,” Anakin answered before she could finish her sentence. “But how are there still crystals here? I was told that greedy unicorns mined all the gems in the caves until there was nothing left,” Twilight exclaimed as she rubbed her head with her hoof. “Au contraire, darling, it seems like those thieves didn’t get everything,” Rarity replied. “The crystals clearly didn’t reveal themselves until now,” Obi-Wan said. “Kyber crystals, what are they?” Pinkie asked, tilting her head. Ahsoka answered, “They are crystals imbued with the Force that Jedi use to create the blade for their lightsabers.” “They only grow a number of worlds in the galaxy,” Anakin added. “How fascinating,” Rarity chimed in. The group went back up to the city once they were finished. “Our forces are landing at Point Spire,” Cody told them. They watched as Low Altitude Assault Transport/carriers brought in All Terrain Tactical Enforcers, All Terrain Recon Transports and BARC speeder bikes. Celestia and Luna emerged from the castle clad in armor. It was shining in the sun. The armor they had was made of gold, while Luna’s also included blue fabric. They were wearing helmets and body armor. Several C-9979 landing crafts began to come down to the planet’s surface with Vulture droid fighters in escort. A Sheathipede-class transport shuttle came down for a landing first as, overhead, their escort broke off in perfect formation. The shuttle rotated in the air as its clawfooted landing legs opened up and set down on the ground. The exit ramp on the shuttle lowered as Grievous and the tactical droid departed, followed by several IG-100 MagnaGuards wielding electrostaffs. The ST-tactical droid turned to Grievous, stating, “The natives have created a defensive shield barrier around the city. Curious, as it is not created by any known energy shield and is of unknown technology.” “No matter, it will not save them,” he replied. Through the macrobinoculars, a clone trooper saw the Separatist ships landing. “Sir, our visual and sensor scans indicate the droids are beginning to deploy their forces from orbit,” a clone trooper informed them. The Republic troops set up their main command center outside the castle. The ponies and their allies were all huddled together in a circle to discuss their battle plan. “R2, bring up the map of the city,” Anakin requested. R2-D2 beeped as he brought up a holomap of Canterlot and the surrounding area. “How did y’all git this here thang?” AJ asked. “I had R2 make a scan of a city planning map of Canterlot while we were here the last time,” he answered her. “The first defensive position should be the main city gate,” Skywalker said. “I want two AT-TEs positioned outside. I want troops on the gate, including snipers. I also want several snipers in high towers.” Anakin stared at the map for a short period of time, putting his closed fist to his chin. He turned towards the princesses as he asked, “Is there any other way to enter the city than the main road and railway?” Celestia shook her head. “No,” she answered. “If there was one, we would know about it,” Luna replied. “R2…” he began. The astromech gave a curious beep in response. He finished by saying, “Zoom in on the cliffside.” R2 beeped affirmatively, doing as he was told. “Rex, does that cliff look too steep for the walker droids to climb?” he asked. Rex sighed, taking a moment before speaking, “Possible, sir. Why?” Skywalker answered with a question, “What about our walkers?” “Compared to what we had to deal with at the Battle of Teth, it shouldn’t be a problem,” he replied with a chuckle. “Good, leave four AT-TEs at varied elevation levels on the cliffside as a surprise attack,” Anakin said. He clicked the comlink on his wrist. “Admiral Yularen?” “Yes, General? What can I do for you?” Yularen replied. “What are the stats of the crafts in working condition in the hangar?” he requested. “Right away, sir. We have one hundred and ten V-19 Torrents, one hundred and fifteen Z-95 Headhunters, fifty Y-wings and thirty ARC-170s,” he responded. “Thank you, I’ll update you shortly,” said Anakin. “Rex, lay down several mines in these areas,” he told him as he marked a few places on the map. “Hopefully, it will slow the droids down.” “Yes, sir,” Rex replied. Anakin pressed his communicator again. Admiral Yularen’s voice came on again. “Yes, General?” he answered. “I want to put one squadron of Z-95 Headhunters, ARC-170s and Y-Wings to hide behind the mountain,” he requested. “As you request, sir,” Yularen responded. The starfighters left the star destroyer’s hangar and got into position behind the mountain. “Are you positive this is a battle we can win?” asked Twilight. Ahsoka turned to her, telling her, “We have won battles with odds stacked against us before.” Rex mentioned that “General Skywalker is known for his unorthodox tactics and battle strategy.” Anakin received a confirmation message on his comlink. “Red and Shadow Squadrons are in position, sir,” Red Leader informed. Obi-Wan stroked his beard. “Well then, I’ll take my troops to the east and north sections of the city,” he stated calmly. “I’ll be sure to give you a helping hand once I’m done with my part of the battle, Master,” Anakin commented smugly. Kenobi rolled his eyes at the remark. “I want LAAT gunships to give support whenever possible,” he said. Twilight glanced over at Fluttershy. She knew she was scared because she had been quiet this whole time. She was shaking like a leaf and Twilight could see the fear in her friend’s eyes. But this was no ordinary fear; it was true terror. Twilight didn’t show it on the outside, but she was just as afraid as her friend. Fluttershy could see that Twilight’s eyes showed the same terrified look that hers had. They had been in battle before, but never one with such violence and death as they were about to experience. “Fluttershy…” she whispered and assured her, “You don’t need to be here if you’re scared.” “You can go down to the caverns, keep the young ponies company and calm.” Twilight was generally confident in most situations, but she wasn’t sure how this would go. She wasn’t sure if they’d all make it out of this. Fluttershy nodded her head and went to the evacuation zone. Commander Cody listened to a transmission in his helmet. He turned to Obi-Wan. “General Kenobi, I just received word that General Grievous is here,” he reported. “We identified his shuttle and the Invisible Hand from orbit.” “Anakin, you stay here with Ahsoka. I’ll handle Grievous,” Kenobi turned and told him. “We can face him together,” he insisted confidently. “No, you have your own job. I know what to expect from him and there’s no time for arguing,” he countered. “Maybe next time.” Kenobi smiled softly. He took several steps away, then turned his head towards him. “May the Force be with you, old friend,” he said before jumping down to a lower street level, his robes flowing, as Commander Cody followed after him. “Who is this ruffian they are talking about?” Rarity asked curiously. “General Grievous is the Supreme Commander of the Droid Armies. He is the Separatists’ military leader. The Jedi have been attempting to defeat or capture him for a long time. He has killed numerous Jedi,” Ahsoka clarified. The droid landing crafts came to a perfectly synchronized landing. The long, H-shaped landing crafts began unloading their cargo of droids. There were numerous Armored Assault Tanks, Multi-Troop Transports, DSD1 Dwarf Spider Droids, NR-N99 Persuader-class droids, LM-432 crab droids and STAPs. The ST-tactical droid slowly turned to its right where General Grievous stood. “Our forces are ready to proceed, General,” the droid told him. “Commence the attack,” Grievous ordered as he stared at his droid forces. The MTTs opened their main trooper hatches and deployed their load of B1 battle droids, B2 super battle droids and droidekas. The skeletal droids reached behind them, retrieved their E-5 blaster rifles from their booster packs, held them across their chests and marched in line with a loud clanging sound with every stride towards Canterlot. With blaster rifles drawn and ready, the 501st Legion stood behind Anakin, Rex and Ahsoka. “Alright men, let’s show these ponies how we deal with clankers,” Rex stated. He pulled out his two DC-17 hand blasters from their holsters. The clone troopers got themselves into defensive positions. “Defend the main gate,” he said. Several troopers took up positions at the entrance gate. Two of the AT-TEs were stationed outside. The droid army marched up the mountain in a tight phalanx formation towards the city. The sound of the droids and the hum of repulsorlifts continued to grow louder as they drew closer. When the first AAT came into range, one of the walkers took aim with its mass-driver cannon. It fired the shot, hitting the tank, causing an explosion, followed by a secondary fiery explosion from another shot. The battle had officially begun. At the end of the line, the ST-tactical droid was stationed in the top hatch of an AAT. “Take down that shield,” the droid ordered. The tanks rotated their turret-mounted heavy laser cannons and began bombarding the shield with laser fire. Each hit caused a reverberating booming sound inside of the city. BOOM! To the surprise of everyone, the magic shield blocked the droids’ lasers. “It seems like the shield is holding,” Twilight commented on it. “Yes, but for how long?” Anakin asked with his arms folded. “And will it hold back the droids?” Rex speculated as he watched the rank and file droids continue to march towards them. The droids came to the edge of the shielded city. The walkers were holding their own against the droids, thanks to the safety of the shield. Grievous ordered, “Take out those walkers!” Several B2 battle droids armed with rocket launchers aimed at the AT-TEs. They slipped through the magic shield with ease. It seemed it was of no use against droids. “Open fire!” Rex ordered. The blaster fire erupted into a fury of red and blue laser bolts from both sides. The B2s fired their rockets, the canopy of one of the AT-TEs exploded from the blast. The second’s legs were disabled by the rockets. Anakin and Ahsoka both powered up their lightsabers. They began blocking laser bolts from the droids as they ricocheted off, moving their sabers in long, sweeping motions. Two droidekas rolled out in front of them. The destroyers unfolded into attack mode with their shields on. The master and apprentice reflected their lasers back at them. “Rex, droid poppers!” he shouted. Rex pulled out two EMP grenades from his belt. He tossed them and they slowly rolled on the ground under the droidekas’ shields. Blue electrical bolts engulfed the droids, disabling them. Meanwhile, Pinkie Pie grabbed onto Twilight’s tail as she used her horn like a machine gun, firing magic lasers at the droids. “Welcome to Equestria!” she shouted as the battle droids were knocked down. A nearby trooper pulled out a thermal detonator. “Take cover!” the trooper yelled as he pressed the activation button and tossed it in the direction of some B1 battle droids. “Uh oh!” one of the droids said before being blown up. Areas in the shield began to crack, showing it was weakening from the AAT fire. Princess Celestia shot up a magic bolt to increase its strength. “Let me help you, sister,” Luna said. Her horn glowed blue as she also shot up a magic bolt. It seemed to work for a while, until cracks appeared again, gradually getting larger with each hit. “Cease fire and send in the bombers,” Grievous ordered. “Yes, sir,” came the reply from the tactical droid. “They’ve stopped,” Luna said. “Sir, our scanners are picking up a new reading; three enemy bombers are incoming from the south,” a trooper told Anakin. “See if the walkers can take them out,” he replied. “The walkers aren’t able to get a lock on them from their position.” The ponies gazed upward as they watched three Hyena-class bombers and escort Vulture droid fighters come into view as they soared over the city, dropping their payloads onto them with several explosions. Suddenly, there was a tremendous noise that sounded like shattering glass. The shield around Canterlot broke down into small pieces like a shattered mirror. The AT-TEs hidden on the cliffside fired their mass-driver cannons on the much slower Hyena-class bombers when they made their turnaround and were in range. They got direct hits, the droid fighters spun out of control before hitting the ground. “Fall back further into the city,” Anakin ordered. “We can’t hold this position.” The Republic forces retreated into the city streets. Ahsoka asked, “How much longer until Master Yoda arrives?” Rex answered, “He should be a few minutes out by now.” Several LAATs swooped down on the outer edge of the city, raining missiles and lasers onto the droids. Droids flew into the air as they blew up in a fiery inferno as debris showered onto the battlefield. “We’re going down!” a LAAT pilot declared they were struck by an enemy missile, crashing into a building. Not too far away from where Twilight and Pinkie were, Applejack spun a lasso over her head as she charged at a group of B1 battle droids. “What are you waiting for?” one of them said. “Blast her!” She threw the rope at them in a long arc and caught them in it. Before the droids knew it or could open fire, the earth pony had hogtied them together. “Yee-haw! Now that’s how we do things ‘round here!” she shouted. The droids let out a groan in unison. “Outwitted by a small four-legged mammal…” said one droid. “We’re pathetic!” another replied. “You can say that again,” said the other. On the other side of the city, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Commander Cody were holding the line on their front. Kenobi used the Force to pull a B2 battle droid toward him, cutting off the right arm with the wrist blaster and then performing a diagonal upward stroke, slicing the torso in half. Two Dwarf Spider Droids rounded the corner of a building. There was a phew, phew sound as they shot from their cannons. The lasers collided with a nearby building, damaging a wall and the spire collapsed as the brinks crumbled. Several clones were taken down by the droids. “Ahhh!” “Taking heavy fire!” another trooper exclaimed. “Take cover,” Kenobi instructed as he and Cody dodged lasers and hid behind a rumble barrier with a few other troopers. “Blast it! We need to take those out! Get us some firepower,” Cody ordered. A clone trooper came out with an RPS-6 rocket launcher. He kneeled down, inserted the ammo, aimed and fired. A cloud streak was left in its wake before hitting its first target. He then took out the second spider droid. Crab droids scurried across the cobblestone streets. One trooper jumped on top of one, blasting it in the head. Another threw EMP grenades that disabled the droids. Rainbow Dash soared through the sky, kicking and punching droids with her hooves. An ear-deafening sound suddenly occurred, along with strong gusts of wind. A sonic boom made of a rainbow was seen in the sky causing droid fighters to spin out and crash. Luna created a magic energy ball, shooting it at a few battle droids and a crab droid, disabling them. Celestia created a magic barrier to defend herself and a group of clone troopers nearby from laser fire. Rarity’s horn glowed as she defended herself against a few droids. Rex informed Anakin, “All mines are set.” “Do it,” he replied. Rex clicked the trigger button for the mines; several explosions appeared across the city. “Red Squadron, Shadow Squadron, begin your attack,” Anakin stated. The starfighters powered up their engines and soared into the sky, banking around the mountain to reach the capital city. “Bombs away!” was shouted as the Y-Wings released their payloads on the droids and tanks below. An AAT glided down the street. Ahsoka looked at two nearby clone troopers. “Take out that tank,” she ordered. “Right away, Commander,” they replied. The clone troopers ran up behind the AAT that was close by and threw grenades into the top and main hatchways. Shortly after, there were explosions coming from inside that disabled the tank. Above the battle in space, an Acclamator-class assault ship and two Pelta-class frigates came out of light speed in front of the blockade around the planet. A beeping communications signal came from Anakin’s comlink. He immediately answered it. “Come to assist you, the Preserver has,” a familiar voice said. “I’m glad to hear you, Master Yoda,” he replied, sounding relieved. Grievous was taking out clone troopers left and right with his lightsabers. He sliced their blaster rifles in half before cutting the troopers themselves down, as well as tossing them around like rag dolls. Anguished screams were heard all around him. “General, the Invisible Hand is reporting enemy reinforcements of a single Acclamator-class ship and two Pelta-class frigates have entered the system from hyperspace,” the tactical droid informed him. “Ha, ha ha, ha!” Grievous laughed. “My droids still outnumber your forces, Republic scum,” he boasted. As the battle raged around him, Grievous noticed Kenobi from afar. He cackled as he watched him cut down several battle droids. Quickly, he climbed up onto a nearby balcony that looked over at the Jedi Master. He then leaped off into the air, swiftly splitting his two arms into four, taking out all four of his lightsabers and igniting them. Grievous went to strike down Kenobi with a surprise attack from above, but he blocked it at the last moment as their lightsabers clashed. “Thought you could defeat me so easily, Grievous?” he asked. “This time there is no where you can run, Kenobi. You are trapped and your lightsaber will be mine,” Grievous replied. Their blades remained interlocked with each other, sizzling. Obi-Wan called upon the Force, removing his left hand from his lightsaber and pushing Grievous back into the wall. He heard the electrical crackle of electrostaffs behind him. He spun around to see two MagnaGuards whirling their weapons. Kenobi blocked each of their attacks. He sliced off the droid’s right arm, then the head and through the midsection. He blocked two hits from the second droid, then made a diagonal slice from the midsection to the left shoulder, finally cutting off both legs and the head. Gunships poured out of the Acclamator-class assault ship. They broke through the blockade. Droid tri-fighters and Vulture droids met them in the skies above Canterlot, firing upon them. They watched as two of them turned into fireballs. “We just lost gunships six and twelve!” The droid fighters were being taken out one by one by the Z-95s. “Red Squadron is clearing a path for you. Nice to see you, 41st!” On the ground, BARC speeder bikes screamed down the streets, taking out enemy droids. “Take out those snail tanks,” Rex said. The BARCs zoomed past two NR-N99 Persuader-class droids and tossed timed explosives onto them, shortly after the snail tanks blew up. Suddenly, one of the bike riders took a shot to the head, sending him flying off with his bike careening to the side, crashing into Joe’s Doughnut Shop. “Sniper droid!” With a pair of macrobinoculars, they discovered the location of the sniper. “Sniper is at thirty degrees south southeast, the second highest tower.” “I’m on it. Cover me,” another replied. He ran up to the tower, aimed and launched his ascension cable at the balcony. He went all the way up, jumped onto the balcony and shot the droid in the head. “Sniper is down,” he said into his helmet communicator. A distress message was received from a clone trooper from another part of the city. “Can anyone hear me? This is Crusher. We are being overwhelmed in sector six, near the Canterlot Library! We need reinforce— Ahhh!” was all he said before he was cut off. “You heard him. Sector six, on the double,” Rex told them. “Yes, sir,” the others replied. They mounted AT-RTs. Pinkie and Twilight hopped on and moved out. Some of Yoda’s clone forces landed in an LAAT gunship to help hold their current position. Grievous coughed as he got up and leaped out of the dust cloud at Kenobi with his sabers drawn. Obi-Wan got himself into the traditional Form III stance with his lightsaber above his head and other arm outstretched. The lightsabers spun around in his hands. He sliced left to right with each hand. The Jedi blocked and dodged every strike. He jumped onto a skyway bridge above him. He was quickly followed by his enemy. Grievous pulled out his E-5 blaster with his lower right hand, taking a few shots at him. The blaster bolt ricocheted off the Jedi Master’s blade. He then sliced the blaster in half. Grievous came down with both upper lightsabers. Kenobi blocked them over his head. He powered up his fourth saber before going in for a stabbing attack. Obi-Wan spun out of the way in time. The cyborg general kicked him to the ground, knocking his lightsaber out of his hand. Grievous then tossed him through the door of the nearby Canterlot Tower. “Ha, ha, ha, ha!” He laughed, walking through the broken-down doorway. He picked up Kenobi by his throat, choking him as he stared into his eyes. “This is the end for you, General Kenobi,” he stated coldly. Obi-Wan, gasping for breath, glanced over at his fallen saber and reached out with the Force. It slowly began to move towards him before flying up into the air and igniting the weapon as he caught it in his hand. Grievous let go of him, but not before he lost half his wrist to Kenobi’s blue blade. He let out an angry yell. “You’ll pay for this, Kenobi!” he growled. Commander Cody appeared with a few other troopers. “General!” Grievous saw as one of them held up a Z-6 rotary cannon and began firing at him. He deflected several lasers with his spinning lightsabers and ran across the hall. He then broke a window with his sabers and jumped out of it, disappearing into the sculpture garden and hedge maze below. In the middle of the space battle, a Venator-class star destroyer appeared from around the far side of the moon. “This is the Liberator, ready to give assistance.” The star destroyer began firing its turbolasers on its unsuspecting enemy. It started to take out one of the Munificent-class frigates. “Liberator? We thought you were lost in battle,” Anakin said. “We hid behind the planet’s moon and lost our communications,” the comms officer explained. “Glad you’re here then,” he replied. The capital ship began to aid Yoda’s forces against the enemy ships. When Captain Rex, Twilight, Pinkie and the others arrived at the Library of Magic, Twilight was thankful that the library itself was unharmed. A few of the LAATs carrying the 41st Elite Corps landed to beat back the droids. Twilight stood there watching as clone troopers yelled as they fell to the ground after being hit. She unleashed a barrage of magical beams from her horn. Rex hurled two thermal detonators at the droids, causing them to explode into pieces. Pinkie pulled out her much larger party cannon. Two nearby B1 battle droids stared at it. One of them exclaimed, startled, “A cannon!” “Run!” The other responded, “Ahhh!” said the other. They collided with each other, quickly turning around and fleeing in the opposite direction. Sometime later, three Venator-class star destroyers and two Acclamator-class assault ships came out of hyperspace. The Venators immediately opened their central hangars. Squadrons of ARC-170s and V-19 Torrents exited as they were being led by the Blade of Dorin. “We are coming to assist you, Masters Kenobi and Skywalker,” Plo Koon said. Their turbolaser batteries opened fire on the Separatist fleet. “Watch out for those turbolasers!” An ARC-170 was hit by turbolaser fire on its left engine and went spinning into the bridge of a Munificent-class frigate. With the help of Plo Koon, the Republic’s forces were able to destroy two frigates and damage the supply ship and one destroyer. With Plo Koon’s help, they were able to destroy two of the Munificent-class frigates. The tactical droid found Grievous after he fled from his dual with Obi-Wan. “General, our forces are overwhelmed. I recommend we should retreat,” ST-tactical droid suggested to him. “Get my shuttle prepared for takeoff,” he ordered. “Yes, sir,” the droid replied. The two of them get on STAPs and zoom off. The droid landing crafts began to make their ascent into the upper atmosphere. Grievous quickly climbed up the ship’s ramp as it retracted. The engines powered up and the Sheathipede-class shuttle lifted off, leaving the planet. It landed safely back in the Invisible Hand’s hangar. The Separatist fleet moved away from the planet and once they were out of range, jumped into hyperspace. “Our scanners are indicating a full retreat by the Seps,” Cody informed them. The ponies cheered, “Woo whoo! YES!” “We did it y’all!” > Chapter V: Epilogue > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As the smoke cleared all around them, there were broken down battle droids scattered everywhere. Despite the fact that the battle had just ended, the cleanup was already underway as they all stared at the debris. The ponies and their allies wasted no time in clearing the wreckage and beginning to fix the buildings that were damaged. The ponies had never seen so much destruction or death. Dead and wounded clone troopers were being carried away to be taken to nearby transports. The Canterlot Royal Guard lost a few members in the fighting as well. Anakin sighed as he watched, saying, “Unfortunately, General Grievous has slipped away again.” A shuttle left the Acclamator-class assault ship, the Protector. “Shuttle incoming,” Commander Cody said, seeing it through the macrobinoculars. A Nu-class attack shuttle flew through the atmosphere’s clouds towards Canterlot. The shuttle hovered over a cleared platform, its wings folded up as the landing gear lowered and touched down. The ponies and Republic heroes watched it land. The landing ramp lowered onto the platform as a small green figure with long, pointed ears walking with a wooden cane exited the vehicle. He had thin wisps of white hair. He was shorter than the ponies, but had a sense of wisdom on his face. He walked up to them. “Master Yoda, thank you again for coming to our aid,” Skywalker thanked him. At 877 years old, he was younger than Celestia, but she looked much younger than he did. “Happy to help you I was,” he replied. He slowly looked around him, seeming deep in thought. “Beautiful planet this is. Led by the Force to this planet, you were,” he said. “Very strong in the Force it is and in its inhabitants.” “This is Yoda, Grand Master of the Jedi Order,” Obi-Wan introduced him. “Thank you for helping save our world,” Celestia said. “Always ready to help a Jedi is,” Yoda replied. “This is Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, rulers of this land,” Kenobi presented them. “This is my pupil, Twilight Sparkle and her friends, Applejack, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash,” Celestia said. “Pleasure to meet you all I am,” Yoda told them. “It is an honor to meet you,” Luna commented, smiling. “This is Jedi Master Plo Koon. He is the Jedi who brought me to the Jedi Order when I was young,” Ahsoka informed them. Even though he seemed quite friendly, the Kel Dor Jedi looked somewhat frightening with his black eye protectors and respirator that had two fang-like protrusions coming down. “Unfortunately, due to what has happened here, I fear that it might be possible for the Separatists to come back,” Plo Koon said, sounding concerned. “Now that you and your planet are known to the wider galaxy, I would suggest asking for Republic support,” Kenobi proposed. “Despite their best efforts, many neutral worlds have been unable to stay out of this conflict and are being dragged into it.” “You mean join the Galactic Republic?” asked Twilight. “Possible, but it can usually take some time for a new system to join. However, with the state of the galaxy as it is, they might be willing to accelerate the process for you to join sooner,” Kenobi explained. The sister princesses glanced at each other, then back at Kenobi. “We will consider it,” Celestia replied. “Then let us be the first to welcome you as a Republic ally, at least for now,” Obi-Wan said as he shook Celestia’s hoof. “You are very strong in the Force,” Skywalker commented, looking at Twilight. “If things were different and your planet was known to us, you would have made a great Jedi,” Kenobi added. Two LAATs landed nearby on the platform. After the cleanup of battle debris was over, there was still more rebuilding of the city to be done. Twilight asked them, “Will we ever meet again?” “Hopefully someday,” Anakin replied. “We must be going,” Kenobi said. They bowed to the princesses one last time, saying, “Your highnesses.” They turned and walked over to the other side. “Adieu! Bon Voyage,” Rarity said, waving her hoof. The other ponies began to wave good bye as well. They waved back at them. “May the Force be with you,” Ahsoka said to them. The cabin doors closed as they lifted off of the platform, followed by Yoda’s Nu-class attack shuttle. Twilight and her friends watched as the ships slowly disappeared high into the sky past the clouds.
