> One Chance to Change your Life > by Lestee > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The Letter > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rainbow dash was flying full-speed, zipping past clouds and leaving birds open-mouthed when Derpy flew dorkily in front of her. Rainbow almost rammed into her but hurriedly steered to avoid her. When she was stabilized, she glanced at the gray-blue Pegasus then scolded: “What the heck, Derpy?!” Derpy made a blank expression, then produced an envelope from her saddle bag. “For you,” she said, handing the letter to Rainbow dash, then flying back down to Ponyville. “Please come to Canterlot for an important meeting that could change your life. We are in a time of great need, please come, we need you. Signed the Wonderbolts?” Dash read aloud. “What? Hey Derpy, is this some sort of prank?!” she called, keeping her eyes on the paper. “Uh, um, I dunno.” Derpy shouted back, then giggled in a creepy fashion and walked into Sugarcube Corner. “Well I wish they could actually provide more info,” Rainbow dash mumbled to herself. “I don’t even know who pranked me! Like the Wonderbolts needed me! They've never payed very much attention to me, except at that last air show where I was the only one cheering. I mean sure, they got down one member but-” she stopped short. Her expression changed from confusion to joy. A wide grin spread on her face. “Could this be?” she whispered. “A meeting that could change my life...” When Rainbow dash swept down to Sugarcube Corner to announce Pinkie the big news, Derpy walked out the door with a paper bag clenched between her teeth. “Oh, thank you thank you thank you!” Dash gave her a hug, squeezing Derpy’s arms. “Your...Welcome?” Derpy responded through tight breathing. “Can’t......breath!” Finally the pale blue Pegasus released her and walked into the sweet shop. “Well hi, Dashie! What can I get for ‘ya?” Pinkie pie acknowledged her, standing behind the counter. “Well, nothing, but I have some big news!” Rainbow dash grinned. “Is that so?” Pinkie said in her high voice, resting her head against her hoof. “Yeah! Can you guess?!” the Pegasus smile grew wider. “Hmmm......” Pinkie stared into space, hoof still braced against her chin. “Cranky Doodle, that mule guy or whatever married Nightmare Moon and had a kid, who’s actually Gummy?!” She said at full speed. She swept her regard across the room to stare at Gummy. “Isn't that right, Gummy?” She raised an eyebrow at him. Her pet alligator just stared back at her then walked into the storage room. She sighed then started, “It’s getting worse and worse with him, he just keeps ignoring me when I talk to him! I mean I don’t know if alligators can actually talk, but-” Rainbow dash jammed her hoof on Pinkie’s mouth, muffling her talking until she stopped. “I got a letter from the Wonderbolts,” she said. Pinkie immediately started screaming under Rainbow dash’s hoof, then spat it out and said, “See? I knew you’d make it someday!” “Well, I don’t know if it’s from the Wonderbolts, but I’m pretty sure it is,” “What? How?” Rainbow dash handed Pinkie the letter. “Oh, this is definitely from the Wonderbolts,” Pinkie examined the paper. “How can you tell? I mean, Maybe it’s a prank-” This time it was Pinkie’s turn to jam her hoof in her friend’s mouth. “My Pinkie Sense! Duh!” she said cheerfully. Tears started welling up in Pinkie’s eyes. “Oh, Dashie, I’m so proud of y-” she stopped. “Hey! You know what this calls for?” “A party!” the ponies chorused then did a brohoof. At Sweet Apple Acres, the two ponies found Applejack pulling a wagon of crimson and lime green apples. “Well howdy, y’all! What brings you two here?” She called with her Southern accent. “Oh, nothing much,” Pinkie shrugged. “We just came to tell you something.” “Sure! What is it?” Applejack said enthusiastically. “I got a letter from the Wonderbolts saying they want to have a meeting with me in Canterlot!” Rainbow dash squealed. “The Wonderbolts? The Wonderbolts? The team of flyers you've been dyin’ to join?” The farm pony raised an eyebrow. Rainbow dash nodded with a wide grin. “Well that sure is somethin’! Pinkie pie ‘throw you a party yet?” “Not yet, but she will! Once all our friends know, of course.” “Yeah!” Pinkie piped up. “Let’s go to Rarity’s!” A bell tinkled when the three ponies walked into Carousel Boutique, and Rarity swooped down gracefully from upstairs. “Welcome to Carousel Boutique! I am Rarity, the beautiful and fab- oh it’s just you three.” She frowned. “What could be so important?! I was working on a fabulous dress!” “For whom?” Applejack raised a blond eyebrow. “Why myself, of course!” Rarity replied matter-of-factly. Rainbow dash sighed. “I got a letter from the Wonderbolts, they wanna have a meeting with me in Canterlot.” “Canterlot?!” Rarity squealed, pulling down her purple locks with her hooves. “You’re going to...Canterlot?!” “Yes Rarity, to meet with the Wonderbolts.” Rainbow dash answered. “Oh, Rainbow dash, don’t you see? This is my- I mean your chance to live your dream!” she rested her head on her hoof then sighed. “Going to Canterlot with all the sophisticated ponies like m- with the awesome Wonderbolts! Like, um, like you! Heh.... um..... you don’t happen to have an extra train ticket, do you dear?” Rainbow dash, Applejack and Rarity were walking to the Ponyville library with Pinkie jumping beside them, when they met Fluttershy. “Oh, hi,” She smiled shyly. “What are you four up to? Going to see Twilight?” “I got a letter from the Wonderbolts! They wanna meet me in Canterlot!” “Oh, Dashie, that’s wonderful! You’ll finally get the chance to achieve your dream!” Fluttershy exclaimed quietly. “Now, let me lead these ducklings to their mother and I’ll come with you to see Twilight.” “Hey Twi! You got visitors!” Spike shouted when he opened the door. “Not now, Spike!” the other ponies heard Twilight yell from somewhere inside. “ I'm busy studying! Tell them I’m not home!” “You do realize we can hear you?” Rainbow dash called, poking her head inside. “Oh, what in the name of Celestia is so important now?!” Twilight snapped, walking down the stairs. The other five ponies walked in and Spike shut the door behind them. *** “Whoa! Rainbow dash, this is great!” Twilight exclaimed. “They actually recruited you?” “Yeah!” “I hope Pinkie’s throwing you one of her signature parties!” “Well of course!” Rainbow dash said with a snort. “Where did that filly go, anyway?” Applejack asked. The ponies were so preoccupied that they didn't notice Pinkie pie slipping out the library door. “I dunno. Probably went home. Let’s go check Sugarcube corner.” The ponies nodded in agreement then walked outside into the pale sunlight of the late afternoon with Spike behind them. “Surprise!” Pinkie yelled at the top of her lungs. “Surprise, surprise, surprise!!!” The other five ponies nearly jumped out of their fur, and the little purple dragon out of his scales. “Pinkie! You actually did plan a party!” “Well duh! I never turn down the opportunity to throw a party!” Rainbow dash looked around the sweet shop and saw everything she loved about Pinkie pie’s parties. Streamers, balloons, confetti scattered on the floor, a long table with rainbow-frosted cupcakes set on lacquered trays, A big white cake with scrawled across the bottom, Congratulations, Rainbow dash! and a bronze Pegasus statue on top, raspberry punch, Pin the tail on the Pony, everything was there! Even Pinkie was wearing her favorite polka-dotted party hat. “Thanks, Pinks, this really is awesome,” Rainbow dash said, her voice full of truth. Pinkie nodded with a huge smile. From then the whole evening was filled with laughter, dancing, and occasionally slipping on raspberry bunch and falling on faces. It was near eight o’clock when Pinkie pie dragged Vinyl Scratch, the DJ, from her house to Sugarcube Corner. “All right, all right,” Vinyl said, dusting herself off. “A couple of songs, but then, I’m going back home to wash the dishes with wubs, they can’t clean themselves,” Pinkie nodded, then called to the other ponies. “Hey guys! Vinyl’s gonna play us a song!” The ponies cheered in agreement then Pinkie yelled over to the DJ, “Yo Scratch! Drop us a beat!” The unicorn put down a couple of disks, spun them, then pumping music blasted through the speakers. “Watch out everypony, Elements of Harmony in the hooooouse!” Pinkie shouted out the window. Twilight and Rarity giggled. The ponies outside, who just happened to be the mayor of Ponyville and some others, shook their heads or whispered to their neighbor, “What is going on?”. “Oh apparently RD’s leaving in a couple of days for Canterlot, she's got a meeting with the Wonderbolts or somethin'." Said a mare to the crowd of ponies gathered around Sugarcube Corner. "Oh. Leaving, huh?" Said Mrs. Mayor.
