To the sky (one shot)
Scootaloo peeked through her magenta mane at the cloud she was standing on, taking in its shape. Her gaze moved from the cloud to the ground, twenty feet below her. The trees swayed softly in the breeze, causing leaves to blow about, and two ponies stared up at her. One was a beautiful white unicorn. Pastel pink and purple curls highlighted her soft features. The other was a yellow earth pony. Her long red mane had been pulled back and tied up with a big red bow. They both stared up at her, their faces possessed smiles that even Pinkie Pie would not be able to manage.
Scootaloo looked to her right. A cyan mare flew beside her, smiling. Her eyes were not harsh and demanding, but soft and encouraging. Her rainbow mane and tail blew behind her like ribbons of colour. Rainbow Dash, her hero, had taken the young filly under her wing in an effort to teach her how to fly. Now was the big test. Scootaloo remembered the intense training she went through to get up to this point.
"Come on Squirt, ten more, your almost there" Rainbow Dash called encouragement to the young filly that was doing wing push ups.
She had to admit, she was impressed. She hadn't seen anypony work that hard before. Scootaloo had already done one hundred sit ups, and almost one hundred push ups. If anypony deserved to fly, it was her.
"Done" scoots announced, standing up.
She looked at her wing, they had almost doubles in strength after she had done her work outs every morning and night.
"Well done Squirt, you worked hard today"
"Really!"
"Yeah. You never give up, no matter what, and I admire you for that"
"I never give up because I don't want to let anypony down"
Rainbow Dash looked at the filly and smiled.
"I think your ready to fly kiddo, meet me at Sweet Apple Acres tomorrow morning at dawn" she said to the beaming Pegasus, and flew off.
Scootaloo smiled at her mentor, and stretched her wings. She could feel the muscles she had build up stretching, and her spine loosing off. She narrowed her eyes, and focused on a red flag, placed on a cloud at the other end of Sweet Apple Acers. She bent her, and lept off the cloud
Scootaloo began to free fall towards the ground. With every passing second it got closer, never stopping. It made her heart race. She grinned, spread out her wings, and began to flap. After a couple of seconds, nothing happened, and she flapped harder. No amount of flapping helped. Soon she could hear the birds in the trees, and her friends calling to her, telling her that she could do it. Scootaloo closed her eyes, and prepared to crash. Her ears perked up however as she heard a voice calling her name. She looked up and saw Rainbow Dash flying towards her.
"COME ON KIDDO, YOU CAN DO IT! I BELIEVE IN YOU"
Those words stuck in Scoots head like a poster tacked to the wall. 'I believe in you'. Narrowing her eyes even more, Scootaloo unfurled the tips of her wings, and angled the orange feathers to the sky. She gasped in delight as she glided up towards Celestia's beautiful sun, beating her wings a bit harder, she flew up to Rainbow Dash. She got to eyelevel with her mentor, to see a huge grin plastered on her face.
"You did it Squirt, you flew"
"I know, Im so happy" Scootaloo cried, and hugged Rainbow Dash.
The two pegasi flew down to Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom. When they landed the two mares galloped over to them, and pulled Scootaloo into a huge hug.
"You did it" Sweetie Belle squealed
"And it was amazin' " Apple Bloom said.
"I think some cupcakes are in order" Rainbow Dash called over " but first, here. My gift to Scootaloo, but kiddo, I need your help for it"
She took off flying and signalled for Scootaloo to join her. They flew higher and higher until they were out of sight. Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle looked at each other in confusion, but their gazes were pulled to the two rainbow streaks coming from where Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo had just been. One was the normal rainbow, but the other was a mix between orange, yellow, pink and purple, clearly Scootaloo's. They watched as Scootaloo flew in behind Rainbow Dash, merging their rainbows together. As they got nearer the ground, Rainbow Dash flew away from Scootaloo and moved to the right a bit. The fillies focused their eyes on their friend, who was plummeting towards the ground at an incredible rate. Just as she was about to hit the ground she, and Rainbow Dash both performed a Sonic Rainboom. Rainbow Dash's was the normal one, Scootaloo's was her rainbows. The pegasi flew up and round and round, until their rainbows had made the shape of a wing. Once the two had landed, they all trotted towards Sugar Cube Corner, to get some well deserved cupcakes.
As the four made their way into the cupcake shop, they noticed it was black.
"Guys?" Scootaloo questioned
"Yes?" the three replied, innocently
"SURPRISE!"
Scootaloo jumped higher than she ever had, her heart was racing. She looked around the room at the ponies, and grinned from ear to ear. She had never had a party thrown for her, and this was amazing. As they ate cupcakes, the Cutie Mark Crusaders spoke about the rainbooms, flying, and obviously, cutie marks. Scootaloo was dragged away into a bear hug by Derpy.
"Im so happy you learned to fly! Dinky has been so exited waiting for you to learn, now come one, we have gifts!"
"You shouldn't have guys" Scootaloo said, as she was shoved into a chair.
Scootaloo looked at the massive pile of gifts ponies had made for her. Rarity gave her wing warmers for winter, Applejack gave her an orange cowgirls hat, Pinkie Pie gave her a box of pranks, Twilight gave her a book about Pegasi history, Dinky gave her a necklace in the shape of a cloud, Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom gave her a new pink and orange CMC cape, but by far the best gift was from Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy. They had both chipped in, and had given her a baby phoenix. It was called Sunset and Scootaloo actually cried when she got her.
Scootaloo whistled and Sunset came over and snuggled down beside her on a cloud. Scootaloo stared up at the stars, and smiled. Her gaze was soon occupied by the phoenix sleeping at her side. Scootaloo tried to focus, but she felt her eyelids drooping, so she put one wing round her pet, and fell into the best sleep she had in months.
