Chapter one: The New, New Girl
An assembly was called at Canterlot High gym. “I want to thank you all for coming.” Principle Celestia said to the whole student body. “I called you all here today to announce that tomorrow we will be getting some new students from East River High due to a fire the broke out there a week ago. Now while this might not usually be big deal for most of you however the name of one of the students is Twilight Sparkle.” This caused a big ruckus among the students who all knew about the last Princess of the Fall Formal which they had just two months prior.
“But that is impossible! The portal won’t open again for over two years!” It was Sunset Shimmer; however as soon as she spoke she got a lot of dirty looks. Most of the other students still haven’t forgiven her for torments since her freshman year, the last of which was her turning them into her own mind controlled army.
“What Miss Shimmer said maybe true; however this Twilight Sparkle has a student transcript from East River High since her freshman year.”
“Oh, oh, oh! I knew it! I knew I saw a girl like Twilight in the city with a dog named Spike! She must be the Twilight of this world!” Pinkie Pie said.
“That is correct Miss Pie. Now I am glad that you all have kept what happened two months ago just on campus.” The last thing we need is the superintendent asking questions we don’t have answers to. Celestia thought. “I want to ask you all that when you meet Miss Sparkle tomorrow not to go into anything with preconceived notions about her because we all met a girl who looks just like her; if you want to get to know her then think of her as a new friend not an old one that came back. She will have no idea about what happened here and I think it would be best for us and her if she didn’t find out. Thank you all for your time, you are dismissed.”
As the rest of the school went back to their classes’ five girls came together. “I can’t believe that she’s coming back.” Fluttershy said.
“Now remember Sugar Cube; this ain’t the Twilight Sparkle we know. Ah, say we take things slow with her, get to know and see IF she wants to be friends.” Said Applejack.
“Well if she is anything like the other Twilight then she is going to be awesome!” Rainbow Dash leapt up into the air.
“Hey Rarity, what’s up? You’re awfully quite.” Pinkie Pie asked.
Rarity sighed. “Oh sorry darlings, it’s just that all this talk about Twilight reminded me about our promise to her to help Sunset Shimmer and with how she was just treated by most of the student body I am wondering if we are doing enough. The poor dear rebuilt the front of the school and the whole thing happened two months ago.”
Fluttershy looked to see Sunset leave the gym a lonely look on her face. “Oh my, now that I think about she went from ruling the school to the bottom of the barrel in just a few days. She is trying so hard to make up for what she’s done but no one is willing to give her a chance.”
“Well we can’t pretend that she didn’t bring it on herself; even if she didn’t go all demon-like at the end she still did a lot of rotten stuff. That there is a whole mess of ruffled feathers and earning their forgiveness is going to take a whole lot of time and a whole lot of work.” Applejack said.
“Still she looks like she could use some cheering up! We should treat her to something sweet at Sugar Cube Conner!” Pinkie Pie said hopping up and down.
“Yeah! And we can help her out in trying to fix things with the rest of the school too!” Rainbow Dash yelled.

They went out into hall and found Sunset Shimmer talking with her ex-boyfriend Flash sentry. “…all I am saying is that if want to pursue a relationship with her I will not stand in your way. I used you, made you my boyfriend just to make myself more popular. You had every right to breakup with me, all I can say is I’m sorry and I hope that at least we could be friends someday.”
Flash rubbed the back of his head. “I know that things haven’t been easy for you since that night. You’ve been trying your best to make up for what you did and I appreciate that. You can count me among your friends Sunset. As for a relationship with Twilight we will just have to wait for tomorrow and see. We better go or we’ll be late for class.”
As Sunset began to make her way to class Pinkie Pie zipped right up to her. “Hey Sunset, you want to join us at Sugar Cube Corner after school?”
“That would be great thank you Pinkie.” Sunset smiled.

Later at Sugar Cube Corner the girls all sat together having milkshakes and sharing a plate of brownies. “So we all know that our world’s Twilight is coming but do we know anything about these other kids that are transferring?” Rainbow Dash asked.
“I know about one, as I’m sure most of you know my father is head coach of the football team, well one of the new kids is named Shining Armor but on the football field most just call him “The Knight”. As a Quarterback he gave East River three winning seasons in a row. Father says that if he is willing to play for us then this could be the year the Wonder Colts finally make it to the state championship. It would be a good thing too since our quarterback is out for the season due to injury.”
“Yeah, who knew you could wind up in a body cast by scrapbooking?” Pinkie Pie said.
Applejack saw that Sunset was just stirring her milkshake with her straw. “You alright Sunset?”
“What? Oh, sorry girls. I just can’t stop thinking about tomorrow and meeting this other Twilight Sparkle. What will she think when she sees how much the other students hate me? After two months with the excluding you guys only two other students have accepted any of my apologies.”
Fluttershy held Sunset’s hand. “We saw what happened with Flash Sentry. Don’t worry it’ll just take some time.”
“Who was the other one who forgave you?” Applejack asked.
“Derpy Hooves.” Sunset said.
“The girl with the lazy eye?” Rainbow Dash asked.
“The same, it was a month ago. My alarm didn’t go off so I overslept and missed my bus. I ran all the way to school in the rain. When I got there I was hungry, soaking wet and first period was already over. I was about to break down and cry right there in the front hall when she just looked at me and offered me a muffin.”
Pinkie Pie gasped. “Derpy loves muffins! She only gives them to people she really likes!”
“I know, and after I ate it she just said ‘I know you’re sorry’ and walked off to class. There are times when it seems like I’ll never make any friends but then there are times like with Derpy that when I wonder how never made any before.”
“You didn’t even have any when you were little?” Rarity asked.
Sunset motioned the girls close and whispered. “Back in Equestria when I was just a little filly I used to get sick all time. The doctors couldn’t figure out why so my parents thought that it would be best if kept me inside the house so I couldn’t get germs from the other foals. Now in Equestria we don’t have home computers or T.V. so pretty much all I could do was read or watch the other kids play from my window. I wanted so much to be out there and I knew that there had to be something the doctors overlooked so I researched and studied for weeks until I found a reference to a condition like mine that used to be common in Equestria a long time ago. It also said that there was a spell that could cure it, but my parents wouldn’t listen to me. There were afraid to try a spell like that could make my condition worse. So I practiced using the spell myself for over a month until I got it right. When I showed my parents I could run around without going into a coughing fit they were so proud and happy they opened to door to the garden and I ran right out. I was happier than I had ever been feeling the warmth of the sun on me for the first time in years and I knew that as long as I don’t give up I could do anything, get whatever I wanted.” And that was how I got my Cutie Mark. Sunset thought rubbing her thigh. “After that the story of a young child who cured herself by mastering a complex spell reached the ears of out ruler Princess Celestia took me under her wing as her personal student. I was impatient; I was stuck inside that house for so long I was eager to get into really powerful spells but Princess Celestia wanted to show me other things first. Things she said I needed so I could use those spells properly. I wouldn’t listen to her. I was so stupid! There I was in a position most ponies could only dream of and just ran away from it. After that I came here and you all know the rest.”
Pinkie Pie was crying. “That was such a beautiful story!”
“I think I understand. Your problem wasn’t that how fiercely you went after what you wanted but it was what you wanted.” Applejack said. They all looked to her. “You felt like life passed you by and you didn’t to waste any more time but I bet your Princess just wanted to show you what you missed that you needed to know. Giving something your all ain’t a bad thing as long as you give it to the right thing than everything will be fine.”
My talent is determination, if I use that in making friends than there is no way I will fail. Being patient and not giving up is what got me my cutie mark and my impatience and quitting on what Princess Celestia wanted to teach me was the start of my fall from grace. Never again. “Thanks Applejack I think I have things in perspective now. All we can do now is to wait and see what tomorrow brings.”

The next day a white convertible with a blue shield and purple star on the doors pulled up to CHS. Inside were three teens. The first to come out was a girl with pink skin with flowing yellow, pink, and purple hair; she wore a purple top with a crystal heart on her left hand side, a pink miniskirt, long yellow and pink stripped socks and simple black shoes. “Thanks for giving me a ride to school today Shining Armor.” She said.
After the engine stopped out stepped a white skinned young man. He had an athletic build and blue hair that went down to his neck. He wore a red tee-shirt with the same shield mark as his car and blue jeans and red sneakers. “Cadence, it’s nothing for my girl.” Shining Armor said.
From the back came a girl that everyone in school would recognize but as far as she was concerned she had never been here before. “So this is Canterlot High.” Twilight Sparkle looked over the school.
“The same high school where our parents met.” Shining Armor said.
“And the same place where that faked video came from.” Twilight huffed.
Cadence put her hand on Twilights shoulder. “Twilight, I know that video was hurtful but I’m sure it was just a few students that made it. I still can’t figure out how they did though.”
“I just don’t see why we had to move all the way here. We could have just commuted to this school from the city like Cadence did to our old school.”
Shining sighed. “Twiley we went over this, with Mom opening her book store close to here and with Dad getting a promotion they can afford a house here and since you and I had to change schools anyway they bought the house out here that they always want and decided to save gas money by having Dad commute instead Mom and us.”
“I can see that but I don’t have to like.”
“Twiley, please don’t be like you were in East River and try to make some friends.”
“No promises. I just hope Spike is okay back at the house.”
Cadence smiled. “I sure he chewing up all the cardboard boxes as we speak.”
“Okay let’s just get this over with.”
Not far from them Applejack, Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy saw the new arrival. “She’s here!” Pinkie Pie cheered.
“Okay, now let’s try and take it slow Pinkie.” Applejack said. They walked up to the new students.
“Uuuuummm hi. Were here to welcome you all to Canterlot High.” Flutershy spoke just above a whisper.
Pinkie Pie began to shake all their hands. “Super glad to meet’cha, I’m Pinkie Pie, this is Applejack and Fluttershy.”
“Thanks. I’m Shining Armor; this is my girlfriend Cadence, and my little sister Twilight Sparkle.” Shining and Cadence were smiling but Twilight looked nervous.
“Cadence, Shining we still need to see the principle to get our class schedules and text books. I don’t want to be late on my first day.” Twilight said.
Cadence then got a concerned look on her face. “Oh, right well we’ll she you girls around.”
“Sure; no problem.” Applejack said. As they walked away she then added. “Is it me or did Twilight look uncomfortable to you?”
“Well, maybe she’s nervous coming to a new school with so many people she doesn’t know.” Fluttershy speculated while Pinkie just scratched her head.

The three new students arrived at Principle Celestia’s office. “…So that covers the school code of conduct, your class schedules, and the rules. Now Mr. Sparkle, the coach of the school’s football team will want to speak will you at your earliest convenience.”
“Good, I was worried that I couldn’t finish the season. I hoping to get a football scholarship” Shining said.
“He’ll be happy to hear that. Now did any of you have any questions?”
Twilight raised her hand after she finished saving her schedule on her tablet. “Um, Principle Celestia I was wondering if your school had something called the Fall Formal?”
Celestia got curious look on her face. “Yes it is our fall dance; it was two months ago.”
Cadence then spoke. “You see Principle Celestia, around that time someone posted a video online about that dance that had Twilight in it, in made her look like some kind of fool! She became a laughing stock back at our old school! Why would someone post a video to try to keep her from being a princess of a dance that she wasn’t even going to go to, much less run for?”
“It was… is a complicated matter, I do have the names of the students responsible, however I will not have this matter disrupt this school.”
“Don’t worry Principle Celestia; I want all this to go away as quickly and quietly as you do.” Twilight had a look that said maturity and decorum.
“Good, if any of you have any more questions my door is always open.” When they stepped out Celestia closed the door and opened a drawer in her desk and pulled out a package of cream filled cupcakes. Celestia always sought comfort in sweets when her job stressed her and the fact that her school stood on the gateway to a magical world which one of her students was from meant the she was dipping in her stash more than usual these last two months. Careful Celly, if you don’t watch it will all go to your rear. She thought as she took a bite of the chocolate morsel.
What she or the students that were just there didn’t know was that Rarity was outside the office eavesdropping until they left. I have to find Sunset!

“They know about the video? But I took it down right after Twilight left!” Sunset said.
Pinkie Pie had the answer. “Well they say when you put something on the internet it’s there foreverrrrrrr.” Pinkie put emphasis on this.
“What am I going to do? Even if I apologize she will want to how I made that video and even if I tell her the truth I doubt she’ll believe it.”
“Well you can’t just avoid her, I say we nip this in the bud and forget the consequences.” Rainbow Dash reassured.
The whole gang looked and found Twilight in the school library. “So this is where it was made.” Twilight said.
“Um, excuse me.” Sunset said.
“Oh, uh, hello. I am Twilight Sparkle.”
“I know, my name is Sunset Shimmer and… I am so sorry!” Sunset began crying.
“Sorry for what? Wait, Sunset Shimmer? You’re the one who posted that video of me!” Twilight yelled.
“Yes, but it wasn’t you I was trying to embarrass.”
“You used my name! Until today I never even set foot in this school much less run for princess of a dance here! Why? Why did you do this?”
“I… I wanted to be princess of the Fall Formal and my only competition was a girl who looked just like you and had the same name as you! I know what I did was underhanded and I regret what I did to you and to her. All I can do is apologize and hope that maybe we can move past this and be friends.”
“Well I am glad that you want to have this over and behind us.”
“Great!” Sunset waved the other girls over. “You are going to love my friends! They helped me see the error of my ways.”
“Trust us Twilight you’ll see after we hang out a few times we’ll all be the best of friends.” Rainbow Dash said.
While the other girls all had big smiles Twilight sighed. “I’m sorry but you all misunderstand, I just wanted to make sure that whoever made that video would never do it again. While I am in school I want to focus on my studies and have very little interest in socializing. I guess what one of my old classmates used to say about me before that came out is the best explanation. I’m more interested in books than friends.” Twilight left the library leaving six girls with very shocked looks on their faces.

As she walked down the hall Twilight thought. I didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings but if I am going to get into a good college and become a scientist then I must focus on my studies.
Lost in her thoughts and looking at her schedule on her tablet she bumped into someone and fell. The guy that she bumped into offered his hand. “You okay?” Flash Sentry asked.
Twilight looked up and saw the kind look in the young man’s eyes and blushed. Wow. No guy ever looked at me like that before. He’s kind of cute. “Yes, thank you.” Was what she said.
“Name’s Flash Sentry; glad to meet you.”
“Twilight Sparkle…” Twilight never felt this way before.
“Twilight would like to come listen to my band, Stampede? We’re playing at the Cage Club on Saturday.” Flash held out a flier.
Twilight took the flier. “Sure, I can work that into my schedule.” Then the bell rang snapping Twilight out of the daze her heart put her in. “Oh no! I mustn’t be tardy. Tardyyyyy!” She screamed as she ran down the hall.
I’ll say this about this Twilight Sparkle, she needs to relax more. Flash thought.

Later that night at the Twilight’s house; she and her brother Shining Armor were telling their parents about their first day at Canterlot High over dinner. “I’m telling you dad, if I can take the Wonder Colts to state then lots of college scouts will see what I can do. And the guys on the team are a great bunch.” Shining said.
“My son taking the Wonder Colts to state; now that would be a dream come true.” Night Light was very proud.
“What about you Twilight? Did you make any friends today?” Twilight Velvet asked.
“Not really, I found the girl who posted that video and she said she felt really bad about it. Then her friends asked me if I would like to ‘hang out’ but I declined.” Twilight Sparkle calmly said.
“Twilight…”
“Well there was also this boy…”
“Oh how wonderful! Tell me about him!” Velvet was overjoyed.
“His name is Flash Sentry; I bumped into him between classes. He was very nice and helpful to me; a real gentleman. I never had a boy treat me like that before. Most just see a book worm and set their sights on another girl.” Twilight scratched Spike behind his ears while she talked.
“Are you going to see him again?”
“I already put that I’m going to see his band this Saturday on my schedule.”
Velvet’s look suddenly dropped. “His band?”
Night Light changed the subject. “Twilight while studying is important you must remember that you will have to work with other people. Having friends now will make working with other easier later.”
“Dad, I know that you are trying to help me. But I want to be a scientist that will find the solutions to the world’s most pressing problems. I will cooperate with whoever I need to but the fate of the world does not depend on me making friends.”
As Twilight said this Spike ran over to a window at the other side of the house and started growling and barking. Outside what looked like a red tear in space was in the middle of the street next to the house shrieks and growls could be heard from the other side before it closed itself.
