What happens when Rainbow Blitz discovers something that Twilight Sparkle discovered a long time ago... Well I hope that something like this.

It was a usual night for Ponyville. In the sky not a single cloud could be seen, the stars shined with all of their splendor, the moon was full and missing its characteristic mare figure that had gone missing after the return of Princess Luna and Twilight and her friends had caused a ruckus in the middle of it. A nice and common night for the ponies of Ponyville.
It seemed that since Twilight Sparkle came down from Canterlot and had reunited with her friends, Elusive the fashionista, Buttercup the animal caretaker, Pinkie Pie the town’s premier party pony, Applejack the apple-obsessed stallion, and Rainbow Blitz the future wonderbolt, everything in the little town turned upside-down.
On that night, Rainbow Blitz lay in his bed, exhaustion from running through half the town worsened by the fact that he was still recovering from a wing injury, said injury being bad enough to merit a few days in the hospital. At his side lay a stack of books freshly borrowed from the library, straight from the personal collection of Twilight Sparkle. Grabbing his unfinished book he prepared himself to finish the book that had sparked his new found love for literature. Fiction that is.
For a while, all he did was envision the tales of the adventurous Daring Doo as she expertly freed herself from the deadly trap to the end where she escaped just in time and recovered the treasure from the malevolent paws of Ahuizotl. With his book finished, he deposited it on his bedside table, careful to not shove the portrait of his friends and him from the time they saved the world from Nightmare Moon, and got himself the next volume of the story.
Before he could open the book and start reading, he thought about how Twilight had been right about him liking the book. Through it all, Twilight had remained understanding and caring to the pegasus, and that weighed on his mind greatly. Sure, Rainbow had found Twilight attractive the first time they met, that being the whole reason for him crashing into her after all. As he got to know her, to spend time with her. Rainbow found himself developing a bit of a crush on his unicorn friend, but thinking it was nothing, he never did anything to show his feelings. Those feeling kept on growing with time though and now with this new development, Rainbow couldn’t ignore them anymore. He felt the urge to fly out the window and barge through Twilight door, to tell her, to kiss her, to be by her side. However one thing kept him at bay, his fear.
“What if she says no, I don’t think I could handle that. Our friendship would crumble because of me!” Rainbow said out loud. As if Twilight wouldn’t be your friend if she said no said his subconscious. “I know! But what if...” What are you? a mouse or a stallion! “I’m a stallion” And what are you gonna do tomorrow morning? “Ask Twilight Sparkle out on a date!” And if she say no? “I’ll ask again!” And if she keeps refusing “Then I move on with her as my friend!”
With his resolve at its fullest, Rainbow Blitz forgot everything about his books waiting for him and dove straight to sleep, his mind busy with thoughts of the lavender librarian. That night he dreamed of a hill with the sunset as its background framed by a beautiful rainbow growing from side to side.
Unknown to Rainbow, the object of his desire wasn’t resting like he thought she would be. Much like himself, Twilight Sparkle was awake and thinking about him.
After bidding her friends goodbye, she had invited Rainbow Blitz inside where they shared a lively conversation, even though it was the wee hours of the morning. They discussed everything from A.K. Yearling, the author of the Daring Doo series, to speculation of Ahuizotl's species. Twilight even offered to lend her own collection of Daring Doo to Rainbow to which the pegasus accepted without hesitation.
After parting ways, Twilight found herself again in the comfort of her bed but sleep remained elusive to her. She rolled unceremoniously out of her bed and landed with a soft *thud* on the floor. “Got to remember to land hooves first,” she grumbled as she got up and made her way to the kitchen. She took out the bottle of milk from her ice box and turned on the stove to warm the milk. Warm milk always worked for her in nights like this when sleep refused to come to her.
As she waited, she couldn't help but recall the memories of that day. In particular, how her friend and secret crush, not so secret actually, had gotten caught attempting to steal Hospital property, the resulting chase around the town and finally his declaration that he had loved 'Daring Doo and the Quest for the Sapphire Statue. Twilight couldn't stop the giggle that escaped her throat at that particular memory. And best of all, now he likes reading! I might see him more often here at the library now! Maybe even spend a night cuddling with him reading in front of the fireplace! she thought.
Twilight and Rainbow laying side to side, their coats pressing against each other, their tails entwined in a way that looked as if every hair was dancing with the others. Rainbow had one of his strong wings resting on Twilight’s back and she in turn had her head nestled in the crook of his neck. Nestled between their hooves laid the latest Daring Doo novel, Daring Doo and the Engagement Ring, it seemed that the author was getting married and had decided to try her hoof at romance. In this tome, Ahuizotl proposed to Daring after they escaped the crumbling temple, only possible thanks to them working together. At the moment in which Ahuizotl proposed, Rainbow took a little black box and looked at Twilight with determined eyes.
“Twilight?” Rainbow started. “Yes Rainbow?” asked Twilight, already imagining what Rainbow wanted to say. A tear quickly making its way to her eyes. “I just wanted to tell you... ” “Yes?” now she was openly crying. “The milk is boiling”
Twilight woke up and indeed the milk was boiling. Exasperated that it was all a dream, she turned off the stove and left the milk in there forgotten. She stomped her way up the stairs and jumped directly into her bed. How I wish it were real though she thought before sleep took her. That night Twilight dreamed again. but this time it was of a hill with the sunset as its background framed by a beautiful rainbow growing from side to side.
The next morning Rainbow Blitz woke up really early, at least to his standards. After all he was a pegasus with a mission. Getting advantage that today was scheduled to be sunny, therefor he didn’t have to work, he prepared himself for the big task of the day. Asking Twilight out. Deciding he should look his best, he took a shower, he combed his mane, or at least he tried to, and took a light breakfast. At that moment, he couldn’t stop his mind from wandering into the dream of last night.
“That sure was a weird dream” he thought while biting his apple, “Maybe I should ask Twilight about it if everything goes well”.
Once he was well fed and properly groomed, he went to the door, opened it, and with all the confidence in the world, he took off into the sky, aimed for the hollowed tree turned library.
Once Rainbow Blitz was in the door of the library, he checked himself over, and seeing that the wind hadn't trashed his mane too much, he raised his hoof to knock on the door, but he suddenly stopped and turned over.
“Wait a minute.” he thought, “What am I going to say when she appears through the door?”. Hey Twilight, I may have a crush on you, wanna go out in a date? “Yeah, that’s not gonna happen.” He said aloud. “What’s not gonna happen Rainbow?” Asked a familiar voice from behind.
Rainbow recognized that voice in an instant, it’s owner being the source of the predicament that he was now in. He turned around and found himself right in front of a lavender muzzle. “Of course” He thought.
“Hey Twilight, I... em... came... to thank you for the book... Yeah, thank you.” “Oh, well. You are welcome, though I really don’t know why you didn’t came to see me first if you wanted to finish that book. You know, me living in a library and all.” “Hehe. Yeah, my bad.” Rainbow said, trying to end the conversation quickly. “Well that’s it, now I gotta go, to.. em.. do some stuff. See you later”
With that Rainbow took off. “That was awkward. I think I should ask the boys about it” He thought “Butterscotch is out of the question being so shy and all, I’m pretty sure Pinky was the one to take the initiative. That leaves Applejack... Well he’s with Rarity so he must know of these things. The only problem it’s that he won’t let me be if I ask him for advice. What should I do?”
Applejack woke up that morning like every other morning, he followed his morning routine and went outside to tend his apples. Yep, it was a really normal morning. At least until a rainbow blur flew right into him.
“Rainbow Blitz! What the hay do you think you’re doing!” yelled Applejak. “Applejack! I need your help!” “What happened Rainbow?” Applejack asked in a concerned tone, feeling his anger subside. “I woke up and went to Twilight but I stopped and she appeared and I said thank you and she said you’re welcome and I said gotta go! And I don’t know what to do!” “Hey, hold your horses there. Now calm down and explain it again, slower this time.”
Rainbow explained to Applejack how last night he discovered he may have a crush on Twilight and the events that occurred that morning at the library.
“Well, what can I help you with?” Applejack asked. “Wait, that’s it? No mockin for having this feelings?” Rainbow said. “Why should I?” “Well, I don’t know. Maybe because I’m THE Rainbow Blitz and I’m awesome and that, and I’m being all mushy and stuff.” “Rainbow, come here” Rainbow went closer and Applejack wrapped a foreleg around him, “Love doesn’t change a pony, you silly colt. Look at me, do I look different to you?” “Geez Applejack, if you put it that way.” “See, there’s nothing wrong with showing a little emotion now and then. Now, how can I help you?” “I have no idea how to ask Twilight out.” Rainbow simply said. “Well Rainbow, since the only experience that I have is with Rares, the only thing I can say is to be yourself.” “That’s it? That’s the only thing you can say?” “Yup, that’s it. Easy, isn’t it? Now get out there and ask her out.” “But what if she says no?” “Well, if she says no, it’ll be awkward, but you’ll still be friends. And don’t forget that the others and I will be there for you.” “Yeah, you’re right. That’s what I’ll do, I’ll go and ask her right away. Thanks AJ.” “You’re welcome. Now go, you lovebird.”
Rainbow was already hovering when he heard from behind. “Oh, and Rainbow.” Applejack started in a mocking voice “A Rainbow and a Twilight sitting in a tree...” Rainbow didn’t heard the rest as he was already pretty far away.
Twilight woke up that morning after having a bit of a restless night. Watching through the window she saw a sunny and cloudless sky, but that wasn’t what caught Twilight’s attention, what did though was that the sun was already up and shining and through the thick walls of her bedroom she could hear the laughter of playing foals. Taking a quick glance at the clock that was hanging from the opposite wall, she confirmed her suspects. Twilight Sparkle had overslept.
Twilight got up from bed and went to the bathroom and taking a glance of herself on the mirror she saw that her mane was completely disheveled. “Of course” she thought “What can I expect after such a restless night? I could hardly stop from thinking of Rainbow and when I finally fall asleep, I dream of, what a surprise, a rainbow. Although I admit that it was stranger than usual.” ~Yawn~ “I think I’ll need to do some research about it. After I take a shower, of course” She then took a brief shower and combed her mane.
After her little grooming session, she walked down the stairs and went to the main room of the library. Remembering the dream, she made a mental list of all the book about dreams in the library. Once finished she walked to one of the shelves and took one of said books. Making sure that she had in fact taken the right book, she looked at the cover and read aloud, “The dreams guide for eggheads - The meaning of a pony’s dreams. Alright, now some breakfast.”
While reaching for the kitchen Twilight opened the book in the content table and searched for a title that would help her predicament. After a bit of lecture she finally reached the title she was looking for and at the same time she reached the kitchen counter. “Here it is, Dreams 101. Now what’s for breakfast.” She picked some bread from the pantry and searched for some of her favorites flowers in the fridge, having decided for a simple daffodil sandwich. And all of this while she was still reading her book.
The first thing to note in this simple guide to understand the complexity of a pony’s dreams is that the dream in question is subject of the emotions of it’s owner. So not all the same dreams have the same meaning. It usually differs from pony to pony.
By this time, Twilight already had finished making her sandwich and was sitting on a chair at the table, eating her sandwich.
However there is a an exception to the rule, and these dreams are what we call a caradion dream, in which two ponies share the exact same dream with the same meaning. A caradion dream is not exactly something that happens too often due to the fact that said two ponies must share a special connection of not only the purest of loves but of complete trust in each other.
“Well, so much for that” she bitterly thought “I know for a fact that I love him and I trust him with my life, but while I know he trusts me, I can’t think the other part could be possible.” ended with a sad tone.
Deciding that she didn’t want to be more depressed, she cleaned the area where she had been eating her breakfast. And headed for the door to open the library and collect the mail that the mailmare Darpy usually delivered. Mostly consisting on spam. What Twilight didn’t expect was to have the rainbow maned pegasus of her dream there, mumbling at her door. One thing that Twilight found adorable in Rainbow Blitz was that, while it wasn’t very common for the rash pegasus to think the things beforehoof, when he did, he mumbled what he was thinking without noticing.
So Twilight stood there watching the back of Rainbow in complete silence, thinking “What is Rainbow doing here? Maybe he just want to thank me for the books or something, It’s not like he came to ask me out or something, after all, how can an adventurous pony like Rainbow like an egghead like me.”
“Yeah, that’s not gonna happen.” said suddenly Rainbow, startling Twilight. “See, it’s like he could read my thoughts.” Thought Twilight, starting to feel depressed. Stelling herself, she forced a “What’s not gonna happen Rainbow?” out of her mouth, sounding almost to cheerful. Thankfully Rainbow didn’t noticed and turned around to answer.
“Hey Twilight, I... em... came... to thank you for the book... Yeah, thank you” Rainbow said, which Twilight found strange. “Why is Rainbow acting so strange? Is it me or he combed his mane?” Twilight thought. “Oh, well. You are welcome, though I really don’t know why you didn’t came to see me first if you wanted to finish that book. You know, me living in a library and all.” “Hehe. Yeah, my bad. Well that’s it, now I gotta go, to.. em.. do some stuff. See you later”
And having finished quite abruptly Rainbow took off into the sky, while Twilight just watched him go. “Now that was weird. Why was Rainbow so frightful?” Twilight thought. “Maybe he came to ask me on a date and got cold hooves? Yeah, sure” her thought started to turn slightly grayer.
After that, Twilight returned to the library, having forgotten to check her mail and to put the open sign in the door.
That same evening Twilight was reading one of her books in the table at the corner of the main room of the library. That day have been a little slow due to the fact that the library hadn’t had any visitors at all. While not being one of the most popular place for the foals and such, she still had one or two visits a day.
What took Twilight by surprise was the fact that somepony was knocking at the door, which was weird, “Since when anypony knock on the door of a public library” Twilight though. Standing from her spot, she took a bookmark and placed it in the page she left. She trotted to the door and with a flick of her horn opened the door, finding Rainbow on the other side.
“Rainbow, why did you knock the door? This is a public library you know.” Twilight said. “Yeah, I know but the sign said that it was closed.” Rainbow responded. And with that, Twilight remembered that that morning when she stepped outside to change the sign to open, she encountered her crush and after a not so meaningful conversation, she re-enter the library without changing the sign but forgetting to check her mail.
“Doesn’t matter” said Twilight “Come in Rainbow, What can I help you with?” Once they were inside, Twilight closed the door and turned to see that Rainbow had stopped at the door and was looking at the floor. “What’s happening with him today?” Twilight though “Seriously, is like he’s nervous or something”.
After a brief awkward moment in with Rainbow seemed to compose himself, Rainbow started “Twilight, I was thinking that... maybe… I don’t know, you would like to go out with me and watch a movie or something?” And with that Twilight lost it, “It’s Rainbow Blitz asking me on a date” Twilight though. “Like in a date?” Twilight asked. “Yes, well you see.” Rainbow started mumbling. ”Last night I was in bed reading Daring Doo and I kinda started thinking about you and I think I might like you” Rainbow ended in nearly a whisper,
Twilight couldn’t believe it. Rainbow Blitz was asking her on a date. Before she could even think about it, she blurted “I would love to, Rainbow!” “Cool, What do you think of tonight? Maybe two hours from now, So we’ll have time to prepare” “Okey, let’s meet at the cinema.”
And with that Rainbow parted and Twilight closed the door behind her, having to prepare herself for the date. But before she could make a step, she heard from behind the door a mighty shout coming from a familiar voice “She said yes!”.
