> A meaningfull gift > by cealdra > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear dairy, Today was a special day for many reasons. The girls and I had an early Hearths Warming celebration together. And just like last year we agreed to bring only a single gift for the one who`s name we drew. As I already wrote last week, I drew Twilight! Sweet, smart, beautifull and completely oblivious Twilight! Perhaps now I could show her what I feel for her. Sweet dear dairy, you know as well as I do that I choke the moment I see her, but that won’t happen today! Today my plan is foalproof! After thinking long and hard about the perfect gift, a gift wich would say what has been on my heart and tongue ever since she walked in on my practice session for the Summer Sun Celebration all that time ago, I still had nothing. Who would have guessed that Rainbow of all ponies would remind me of the best gift. Of course, she had no idea of my intended meaning for the gift. I just sorta let it slip that I was buying something for a pony I held dear. Surely, I had to wait a few moments before she stopped laughing when I mentioned I fancied another. I could almost hear her think; ‘how could I, meek little Fluttershy, ever get a special somepony?’ I’d show her! I’ll show everypony that I could do it! At that point, my mind was set. Too bad my mind didn’t prepare itself for how much it hurt. Preening always was an irritable job. But plucking out a pinion? That’s something I hope never to feel again. However, It was for a good cause. Searching the cottage for wrapping materials together with Angel took longer then expected, but eventually we succeeded and found the perfect gift box and ribbon. A small butterscotch yellow box. We chose it because it resembled my own coat. I also selected a long and beautiful lavender ribbon. Well, I think you know why I chose that color. The walk towards the library where we would gather was rather uneventfull, and thanks to a cute and exited little squirrel who kept me company in that long walk towards the village, I was not wallowing in fear for what was to come alone. I knew the poor dear well; he stayed at my cottage during fall. A storm had knocked over the tree he lived in. Luckily, neither he nor his wife had been hurt. To see him this happy again made me smile a bit. But I don't think you would want to hear me ramble on about the scenery and squirrels right? So let me skip a little to the party. It all started normal and the like, well with how normal things can be when Pinkie is involved. I truly appreciated the fact that she kept things down a bit. It almost felt like a nice quiet get together. No loud music, no crowds, just the six of us and a few snacks. Just the way I like it. Then came the point of exchanging the gifts. It was all a bit hush-hush and secret about whom you picked until that moment. You were to select your gift and present it to the pony who`s ticket you had drawn. Rarity, in all her grandeur, had made Rainbow a new flight suit. While it didn’t follow the design to the letter, it was easy to tell that it had been based of the design of the Wonderbolts. She had even used the same secret fabric. How in Celestia's name she had gotten hold of that I have no idea. Remind me to ask her during our next spa trip. Rainbow herself had by some strange luck drawn Rarity. To a Pegasus it might have seemed strange, but to Rarity? The large jar of liquid rainbow had been an absolutely devine gift as she called it. We could hear her murmur almost the entire evening about how she would use it to paint otherwise 'drab' fabrics and create a whole new fashion trend. Our host stepped up and gave Pinkie her present. In true Twilight style, it came with a very thick instruction manual. It’s rather adorable the way she thinks that Pinkie will actually read it. But the enchanted self beating egg-beater was certainly welcome. I feel that should explain the gift a bit though. Twilight had enchanted it in such a way that it would beat the eggs in the exact density you want it by simply saying how you want them. She`s such a talented mare. Pinkie wasted no time and brought Applejack her present. A nice little touch for her next family meeting I guess. A gift certificate stating: one Pinkie-buffet. We all knew exactly what that would mean, a whole bunch of new business for Colgate the next day. It was then that Applejack came to me. Her present had been what else, but a supply of apples. I know its a bit cheap you may say. But it really saves me on food for some of the non hibernating animals I’m taking care of this winter. But despite that, my heart sank a little when she wispered in my ear. She was the only one who knew. After seeing me despair after another failed attempt at confessing to that delightfull Unicorn she took me aside and we talked. She also knew about my plan for tonight. Hopefully her presence would bring me the courage to finally claim my prize. Her words then were as kind and supportive as they had been today. “Give em hell sugarcube, ahm sure that she`ll be yours by the end of tonight.” With almost hard to miss shaking limbs, I hoofed over my own small gift. I hoped my anxiousness was not showing. Well I’m pretty sure my mane covered most of my expressions like they always do. My own little shelter, as my mother used to call it. Through the strands I could still see a bit while she was unpacking. My heart was pounding like a madmare, I thought it would jump out of my chest as she brought out the feather and looked at it. Her head turned a bit sideways as she examined it, giving her a scrunched up face, full of thought; a rather foallike, but unmistakingly cute stance if you ask me. From the side I could see similar thinking faces on my other friends. Rainbow gasped, her face looked more like she was in total shock. I just hoped she would not hold it against me for not telling her it was Twilight this morning. A few sentences broke me out of my own thoughts, and I think the next moment will forever be in my memories. “A new quill? No, I know you know I buy those in bulk. You often go with me when I buy them. But what else could it... ” A soft hoof brushed my mane away revealing the rather confused face of Twilight. “Fluttershy? Is this what I think it is?” I merely nodded, hoping it would all be over soon. The silence lasted for mere seconds but it felt like a eternity. I just wished she would be gentle in letting me down. I doubt my heart could take another 'Redheart'. But that greatly anticipated breaking of my heart never came. The sensation of feeling a set of gentle lavender lips placing themselves on mine had replaced it. Once our kiss ended she explained that she too had felt this way and was afraid to admit it to me. But before we could merge our lips again, a loud protest came from at least three of our other friends. They wanted to know what in all things sacred had happened. (you did not hear this from me, but I think Pinkie actually said “Why in Discord’s name are you doing this?”) Twilight thankfully explained with a bit of help from Rainbow that in the old days when a Pegasus really loves somepony else they would present them a pinion-feather. One of the most important feathers of their wings as a sign of affection because it would hamper their flight for at least a year. But I drift off-topic again. To end my entry for today I can only say that I look forward to next week. We will be having our very first date together. Much love, Fluttershy.
