> The Human Who Protected Me > by Mr Blu Shy > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter I > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------CHRYSALIS-------- The forest was quickly disappearing from view as I ran, each new tree the same as the last. I was beings chased by a pack of timber wolves, I’m so, so scared. I have never cried in my entire life, not even when my race died. But now this is it. I am the last changeling… Queen Chrysalis, I'm going to die. I’m crying, I don’t usually feel emotion, but I'm scared, sad and lonely. I am no Queen. They were slowly catching up to me, but I jumped and one of them hit a branch sticking out. It didn't help, there were about seven of them left. I raced up and down in circles, hoping they would stop and try to kill something else in view. However, there was nothing in view. Nothing would want to live in a horrible, desperate place like this, nothing, but me and the wolves. It's confusing really; I didn't expect to die like this. I always thought I would be killed by Celestia. She is a princess living in Canterlot, whom I respect dearly, though she has no idea. Without warning, I was jumped. A Timber Wolf had landed right on my back. I tried to escape, but my wings were being crushed by the weight. The wolf turned me around and snarled. It's foul breath protruding my nostrils. I kicked and pushed, but it was no use. I could not defend. I gave up hope, and the wolf opened it jaws and went in for the kill. A single tear left my eye as another noise came from about a mile away. The wolves distracted, I pushed him off and started to run again. He started to chase me, as did the others, once they regained focus. I looked forward and saw a bush which seems full of thorns, so I jumped in. They snarled again, and jumped over the bush a few times. The Timber Wolf had taken a small chunk of my neck away, and it hurt. Lucky for me, Timber wolves can’t touch thorns or they become pure wood. They were barking outside the bush. I had scratches all over and was bleeding. My blood is not red like the ponies’, its green. I could see the wolves trying to get in, one or two being foolish enough to touch the thorns. ‘Go away!’ I shouted. They wouldn’t listen, I don’t think they can. Whatever happened, I hope it’s for the better of everyone else. Before anything else happened, suddenly some strange creature came through the trees with some sort of metal shape. They pulled a small flick of metal in the middle and one of the wolves fall over. The same happened with all the others. The strange creature said something, but I couldn’t understand it. I think it was a boy. It tore open the bushes, so I crept back as far as I could. I pushed the ground just to get back. The creature held out a limb, which looked like a hoof, but it had some sort of limbs of its own. --------RYO-------- ‘Come with me’ I said. I tore open the rest of the remaining shrubs and grabbed one of the buggy pony’s holey hoofs. She tried to bite me, but I held her mouth. ‘Stop, I’m here to help.’ I said, but she ignored me. My name is Ryo. I’m here with my friends; the main six. I’m not quite sure why I'm helping this pony. I was told she was evil. She kept struggling, so I took my rucksack off my back and placed it on the ground. I took out a small chalk board and she watched as I wrote. I had to write in Equestrian, otherwise she couldn’t read it. The message read; 'Can you read?' to which she nodded. At least I was making some progress. I stopped when I noticed the bleeding on her neck. I took her other hoof and she came forward slightly. I tried to help her out. I took a small towel out of my slightly opened rucksack and kicked the tree beside her. A few drops of rainwater landed on it from the leaves. I kicked again, which scared her, and more water came down. She moved to the back of the shrub again. I made sure the towel was damp and I took her hoof again. I saw luminous green liquid oozing out of small pricks in her legs here and there. I wiped the damp cloth on an especially deep one and she squirmed. I grabbed her hoof again a bit firmer and wiped some other wounds. I then wrote the message; 'I'm going to clean your neck, alright?' on the board, in Equestrian, it was difficult to learn though. She appeared to sigh, and then moved her head to one side, revealing the true damage she had been dealt. I decided it would be better to get my water bottle out. So I did, and then I poured the water on the cloth. The pony whimpered, so I patted her shoulder. I squeezed the cloth above her wound and water dribbled on to it. She squirmed and hit the ground with one hoof. I looked through my rucksack whilst I wiped her neck free of blood, or whatever she had in her veins, if indeed, she even had veins. It was time to patch up the wound, so I looked for a bandage. There wasn't one, so I took out a thicker cloth, and put some disinfectant on it. My rucksack has a lot of supplies in it, let me tell ya. I applied the anti-bacterial cloth and kept it there with some medical tape. I saw a small crown or tiara on the ground next to her. I decided to pick it up and put it in my rucksack. The pony tried to get it, but I wrote; 'I'm only borrowing it.', she seemed to sigh, I understood she would let me and I helped her out of the brush. She just made some noises and then what appeared to be trying to hug me. She moved slightly away from me and stretched. She fell over and I quickly picked her back up. She cried some, which I thought was odd, but she did just nearly get mauled to death. I stroked her mane and she then smiled slightly. Her mane was greasy and very tangled. Suddenly she flapped apparent wings. I smiled, ‘You’re a beautiful creature.’ I said. I think I am going to take her home and help her get better. By the look of it she hasn’t even in days and in my professional opinion, I think she has pneumonia. We both started walking in one direction away from the scene, I got my board and wrote; 'My name is Ryo, I'm the one who made the wolf noise.' She took the board strangely with two hooves, and wrote; 'Chrysalis. Thank you so much for saving my life.' to which she soon started crying again. I reassured her and we both started walking again. Hmmh, I hadn't noticed we stopped. I took the board again. Chrysalis was looking at it while I was writing and nodded before I managed to finish. At this point, the board just read; 'I'm taking you to a safe', it wasn't complete. I'm sure however, she won't mind living in my house for a few days. ---------Ryo signing off. PS: Must finish learning vocal Equestrian. > Chapter II > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------RYO-------- As I walked down the path with this strange creature, he kept writing on a chalk board. To be quite honest, I have no idea where it learned to write Equestrian. It can’t write very well, but it’s understandable. We came to the edge of the forest, but I didn’t go out. The creature sniffed and smiled. Then it looked back at me. Again, he got the chalk board out and wrote down ‘What’s wrong?’ with a confused look about him. I avoided looking at him and tried to get the board, but I didn’t want to leave the forest, as much as I did, I couldn’t. You see, the ponies of Ponyville all think I’m evil, and… well, I am evil. I wanted to make peace with Celestia at one point before, but… she wouldn’t let me into the town. He walked forward and gave me the board. I wrote down how I was evil and no-one likes me at all. I'm hated by most. Ryo, which was his name I think, took his rucksack off and handed me a jewel. Then he said something, but it was in some weird language and put a mirror in my face. I was invisible! I thought I may as well try to go wherever he was taking me, but if it was no good, I am going straight back to the forest. It was weird, as I walked through town, he was waving to people, and I was just there, sneaking around, like a no-good villain. I… I hate being the bad guy, but I have to bear with it. As Ryo walked up to a library, I saw through the window, Twilight Sparkle; the one pony who defeated me at the wedding about a year ago. The wedding, I might add, was when I tried to take over Canterlot. It was one of those situations I couldn’t control. If I had to, I would have asked Celestia for help, but unfortunately, that would have meant my removal from the throne of the changelings. Ryo stopped and looked at me; he had a concerned look in his eyes and wrote on the board. “Listen, we are going to speak to Twilight. She might not be understanding, so let me talk.” I Nodded and rushed inside the library after spike opened the door. Bad News, I ran straight into her. Twilight knocked the jewel straight out of my hoof and I fell back. Spike looked at me and fainted. Twilight rubbed her face and sighed. I could have chosen to become anyone in her view, anyone, just to avoid her knowing it was me. But I chose not to, I thought it would be better if I told the complete truth. There had been too many lies before. She opened her eyes and saw me. She almost squealed, but then pointed her horn at me. 'Chrysalis, get out!' she shouted. Stressed and upset, I didn’t know what to do and I sat down. 'Twi—', I managed to sigh before she spoke once more. I knew this is exactly what would happen. Where was Ryo? 'Just listen. Please!' I shouted. I wish I hadn’t of shouted, because that attracted the attention of four of five ponies in the library at the time. I stumbled back as they gathered on me, pretty much is the same way as the timber wolves, with twice the hate, and reason for it. 'What?' she asked. Ryo rushed through the door; I hope he knows what he’s doing. He sprinted in front of me and made some signs in front of Twilight. She looked at me, then back at Ryo. 'Is it true Ryo rescued you?' she asked. I replied simply by nodding. Then I wanted to speak, but Twilight didn’t believe me and told Ryo to get out of the way. 'Where are the others?' she asked quite loudly. 'I don’t know' I said. I couldn’t tell her, mainly because I didn’t know myself. I knew they were dead, but I didn’t know where their bodies where… Oh Tartarus, I don’t even want to picture that. 'Liar!' she shouted. She pushed Ryo out of the way, and hit me across the chest, so I fell backwards. 'Where are they?!' she shouted again. 'DEAD!' I screamed. 'They are scattered all over the forest. Go and have a look!' I finished. Twilights ears drooped. 'But…' she mumbled. I started weeping, and I hit her across her face, which almost knocked her out. 'No buts! I am on my own!' I shouted. I slowly walked over to the window in the front and shaped into Fluttershy. 'Huh, my favourite of the mane six, she’s so cute.' I giggled, but not happily. Fluttershy was my favourite of the mane six, no lies. She was shy though, hence the name. Twilight got up to her hooves and whimpered. I think she finally grasped that this wasn’t a joke. Or a trap or a trick or whatever! 'Queen Chrysalis, the last changeling?' she asked. I didn’t feel like answering. So I just stood here. I did nothing; I shaped into Fluttershy and stood there. As I was about to answer because I needed to, I realized one very important thing. When you’re a changeling, you can… well, change. And the one problem with changing is that you can never be seen at the same time as the original. So When Fluttershy walked through the front door of the library, I cringed. 'Just my luck… Bad luck.' I said. 'Fluttershy, don’t be alarmed.' Said Twilight, trying to make everything as calm as possible, but Fluttershy seemed to be in awe that there were two of her. 'Hello.' I said, or rather whispered. When you’re with someone you really like, you have to imitate them once at least, and everyone does. Fluttershy smiled and stuck out a hoof. Probably wanted a hoofshake, but I got too excited. My hoof extended and became a black shell. The holes in my legs appeared and I panicked. I quickly hid my hoof behind my back and smiled, eagerly. 'Oh, what the matter, did I scare you?' she asked, 'I’m sorry, I only wanted a hoofshake' she finished. 'No, no, it’s okay, I… panicked.' I said. I was seriously nervous. I was gonna spill the beans at some point, it was obvious. I looked back at my hoof, which was becoming my normal body once again. Slowly retreating to my torso. This happens when I don’t focus. How could I focus though? 'Twilight, I came to pick up some books on how to get gum out of bears fur, if you have anything like that?' she asked, walking over to Twilight. Dear Celestia, thank you she didn’t look at me anymore. I noticed by mane was changing back to its original form. And my eyes, as I could see from a mirror. Ryo sneaked over to me and nudged me. He showed the chalk board, which he had written, “Hide upstairs” on. I quickly obeyed him and ran upstairs, just as the rest of my body became changeling. Twilight soon came up the stairs and said something to me. Something I had never heard in my whole life. Something I will never forgot. She looked at me and sighed, 'I’m sorry.' She said. Sorry. That word lingers in my head. I mean, people have been sorry before, but never to me and not with that amount of sincerity. Twilight looked at my head and her eye twitched. 'Where’s your crown?' she asked. She probably thought somepony had stolen it or something. 'Ryo has it. He won’t let me have it, but I don’t blame him. It has half my power in it. In case I’m too weak, I’d use my crown to transform.' I quickly said, in a little happy voice. My happiness died down after Twilight frowned. 'Chrysalis, promise me you aren’t evil.' She said. How could I promise? I am evil, even though I hate it and I try not to be. I don’t even act evil, but I… Celestia forgive me, I have even killed before. 'Twilight Sparkle, of Ponyville, Equestria…' I started. Twilight raised an eyebrow and looked curious as to what I was going to say next. I thought very carefully, I had something planned, but I don’t know if she would interrupt me or not, 'I cannot promise anything to you—', I tried to finish, but she interrupted me. 'I knew it! You’re still evil!' she shouted. Suddenly, I heard Fluttershy coming up the stairs followed by what I think were Ryo’s attempts to stop her. 'I’m having no choice in the matter!' I shouted. 'Let Fluttershy see me! Let her see the monster that has no home, no family and no hope in the world! I am just another cruel beast, like Nightmare Moon or Sombra!' I shouted. I started crying again, I’m not even supposed to have emotions. I looked towards the floor and started the real waterworks. 'Twilight, is everything—', Fluttershy had just arrived at the top of the stairs. She looked at me, and then at Twilight, who stepped back a little bit. Ryo walked over to Twilight and wrote something down on the chalk board. Twilight nodded. 'Fluttershy, please listen to me carefully. Chrysalis is not evil.' She said. Fluttershy stepped back a little bit, so Twilight stepped forward. 'Please come here Fluttershy, please… I need your help on this.' She begged. 'Twilight, she… she’s controlling you, just like she did Shining Armour!' screamed Fluttershy. She looked at me and saw I was crying. Judging by her expression, she didn’t notice before. 'Oh, were you me?” asked Fluttershy. I didn’t think to say anything because I couldn’t turn the water works off. Let’s just say the valve was broken. Fluttershy looked at the ground, then back at me. She walked over to me and sat next to me. I stopped crying and looked at her for around two seconds, and then the valve broke once more. Fluttershy rubbed one hoof with the other and smiled at me. I stopped crying again. I didn’t wanna embarrass myself in front of her. 'Hey, Chrysalis?' she asked. I nodded. 'You’re not evil are you?' she asked kindly. 'I try not to be.' I whispered. Suddenly, Twilight cut in. 'You know, it could be worse. Ryo is said to die in two weeks.' she said, I may I say rather grimly. Ryo, dead in two weeks; I could not believe what I just heard. Even so... I will not allow that to happen. Ryo saved me, protected me, and I will not allow him to die. If Ryo, the human who protected me dies, I will never forgive myself. TBC; there are two takes to this story. If you prefer a sad story, comment. If you prefer a mystery story, like. If you don’t know what will happen and want to keep it that way, message me. However, I will tell you one thing. How many of you have changed the future? ;) > Chapter III > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------CHRYSALIS-------- After Twilight had just said what she said, Nopony moved for a while. I opened my mouth to say what I thought, but I quickly shut it. I don’t think she meant it, did she? 'Twilight, you didn’t need to mention that.' Said… Ryo?! He… he spoke equestrian! 'How did you do that?' said Twilight, she looked at me and asked if I did it, but I didn’t. Ryo cupped his hand over his mouth and gasped. 'I have no idea, I’m doing right now, aren’t I?' he asked. Ryo looked at me, so I nodded. 'I don’t know how you’re doing it, but you’re really good at it.' I said. Ryo looked at me once more and leaned closer to me. 'Ryo, are you okay?' I asked. Ryo didn’t seem like he was listening. I repeated his name. He just looked at me. As I was about to say something else, the others were looking at me, Twilight, Fluttershy, Ryo and Spike. Wait… Why was Spike here? 'Chrysalis, what did you do to them?!' he shouted. Upon seeing Twilight still as a statue, he lost his confidence and backed up a little. I also backed up, but wherever I stood, their eyes followed. 'I have no idea what in the heck is happening!' I screamed. What the hay was this? They all kept looking at me. After about ten seconds, they all vanished, on the spot. Spike was still there, and so was I. Spike looked terrified and faced me. But when he saw my face, he seemed to notice something I hadn’t. My face still had two small lines of tears where I had previously been crying. 'What are you doing here?' he asked. I didn’t know how to reply, Ryo brought me here. 'I…' is all I could say. Spike stared at me with such disbelief and jumped at me. I threw a small shock of lightning towards him with my horn. He fell back in to a pile of books. 'Oh, I’m sorry!' I shouted. I quickly rushed over to Spike and tried to help him up, but he pushed me aside. 'Get away from me!' he shouted. Spike tried to run downstairs and get as far as he could away from me. I really didn’t mean to, but it was one of those things where I couldn’t help myself. What I did was cry, I started crying again. 'Spike, I’m sorry… I, I didn’t mean to hurt you.' I said. Spike seemed slightly convinced, but then laughed. 'You don’t think I that stupid, do you?' he said. Just as this moment, Ryo appeared again and said something about needing to get home. I was really confused, but after a moment, somepony appeared at the window and then ran off, screaming. I stared at Ryo and we both headed off through the back door to the library. --------RYO-------- I have no idea what just happened. One minute I was in the library with Twilight and the next I end up in a castle in Canterlot. 'Ryo, are you alright?' asked Fluttershy. Twilight was also there. But Chrysalis and Spike were not. 'Fluttershy, I’m fine.' I faced Twilight, ' What just happened?' I asked. Apparently, she didn’t know either. She was looking around the castle, which seemed strangely empty and the atmosphere was thick. It was like someone was watching us from very far away. Twilight walked up to the throne, where Celestia, which was the name of their princess, would usually be sat, with her younger sister, Princess Luna. 'Princess?' she spoke. No reply came, so she shouted a bit louder. 'Princess?!' I shouted too. Nothing happened for a few minutes, until something appeared. A ball had appeared. It suddenly merged into a strange shape and became another human. 'Hey' said this mysterious human. He was about my age, and had almost the same look as me, the only difference being he was wearing different clothes. However, he stuck his hand out and smiled. 'Hey there, my name is Buck; it’s nice to meet you. By the way, you need to get home, there is something you need.' Buck eh? Nice name. Again, I quickly looked around frantically and shouted for Chrysalis. Buck put his hand on my shoulder. 'Yo, something wrong Ryo?' I turned around, startled he knew my name, but before I could say anything again, all of my surroundings suddenly changed. I was in the library again, Buck was gone, and everything was as it was before, Spike was behind me, and Chrysalis was stood there, shocked. I turned to Twilight, 'Do you remember any of that?' but to my shock, she wasn’t there, and neither was Fluttershy. Spike looked me up and down. 'Where’s Twilight?' he asked rather scared. I shrugged, I'm not sure what just happened, but Chrysalis was still here, and so was Spike, so I decided to say something. 'Spike, we need to head to Canterlot castle, it’s—', but before I could finish, somepony looked through the window. Spike gasped, as did the pony outside, who I recognised as Cheerilee. She ran off and started shouting something about changelings. I grabbed spike in my arms and looked at Chrysalis. 'We need to go, now!' She, with her magic, opened the back door and we retreated. Spike kept quiet and Chrysalis was guiding us somewhere. I simply followed her for the duration of our escape, until that is, Chrysalis stopped. I turned around and asked why she had stopped. --------CHRYSALIS-------- As I turned the next corner, I slammed my hooves onto the ground to prevent me going any further forward. In front of me was a huge crowd of ponies. Ryo came up behind me and bumped into me. 'Yo, Chrysalis, what’s the hold-up?' he asked. Oh, what the hold-up he asks? I could see the forest straight in front of me, but the mob was in the way, and Ryo turned and gasped, I hadn’t noticed before, but he was holding Spike. I quickly tried to think of a plan, or an escape route, or something. As I turned around, it was too late, there was another mob, and they quickly formed a circle around us. Ryo looked down. I looked at the crowd and spotted Applejack, one of the mane six, as they call themselves. Across from her was Rarity and Rainbow Dash, I couldn’t really see Pink— whatever her name was. 'You were banished!' shouted Rainbow Dash. Rarity suddenly enclosed a bubble on me, but Ryo or spike, but me. 'Why have you come back here?' asked Applejack, in her southern-like voice. I gulped and felt ashamed for some reason. I panicked and reformed into Twilight. Applejack’s head dropped slightly as she pulled an annoyed, angry face. 'That’s not gonna help ya!' she said. I turned to Ryo, but I couldn’t hear him. Applejack told him to be quiet for the moment. 'I’m gonna ask ya one more time, Chrysalis, why are ya here?' I closed my eyes, panicking as I felt myself transform into several different ponies I commonly transformed into, and ones I had only seen recently. This happened quickly and because I was scared and panicking. 'Uhh… I…' I mumbled and curled up into a ball. Still transforming rapidly, I kept repeating two words in my head. “Just wait”. I covered my eyes with my hooves, and covered my front legs with my wings. I really wish I wasn’t here. Suddenly, the ball vanished and Applejack told everyone to stay where they were. I heard hoof steps approaching me and I didn’t move. I felt like at this moment, everyone would laugh at me, and I would fall into unconsciousness, like in school, before the war. I did not dare move. I felt something on my back, so I had a quick glance, and it was Ryo, he was trying to get me up. I put my face against his shirt and began to feel really embarrassed. Applejack and Rarity were telling ponies to leave. Rainbow Dash flew over to us, and sat down. 'So, I'm guessing it's not a good day?' she asked. Ryo shook his head and got up, leaving me on the floor. I slowly turned to the cyan Pegasus and wiped my entire face. She seemed to be trying not to laugh. 'Don’t you dare!' I said quietly, I was not going to let anyone laugh at me, it didn’t matter how sad I was, it was not happening. Applejack came over, with Rarity and asked Ryo what was happening. 'Well, Twilight and Fluttershy might be in trouble, and to be honest, I think the princess' might be too. At the castle, in Canterlot.' She rubbed her chin, then looked at me. 'And why're you so important?' she asked in a very confident voice. 'I'm not. Ryo just helped me out. Saved my life.' She looked at Ryo, and he nodded. 'Rainbow, Rarity, I need you to go let everypony know they need to stay safe, me and these two—', Spike raises his claw, 'Hmmh, no, Spike, I need you to stay here for now.' Spike growled and walked off. 'Well, we need to see Zecora before we do anything, she told Applebloom yesterday that she wanted to see me, so it might be important.' She pointed at me, 'You're coming with me.' Applejack told me to be in front, alongside with Ryo. We began to walk into the Everfree forest, which is where I had previously lived. I seriously hope that we don’t see any of my young ones. As we moved over a patch of weeds, each of my four hooves suddenly itched. --------SPIKE-------- Applejack can't just tell me I'm not coming, if Twilight is in trouble, what if it becomes my responsibility to save her, on my own, what if I get caught? Anyway, I still want to go save her, and Fluttershy, Twilight is like my mom, she did hatch me, and raise me. I looked over to Applejack walking into the Everfree forest, following Chrysalis and Ryo. I waited behind a corner until they had gone into the forest and was out of view until I began to follow them. As I approached the entrance to the forest, I saw the weed patch, which is where Zecora grew her poison joke. She made some weird potions with it. Anyway, I saw them in the far distance, and when they had left that, I edged around the patch and ran quickly after them. I giggled, realizing they had touched poison joke. TBC, there are still two ways for this story to go, sad or mystery, despite the fact I think I have pretty much worn out the sadness, in the intro. Anyway, the story can still go… three ways now, mystery, action or adventure, in that order. Sorry if that makes no sense, but tune in next time folks, cuz in chapter {SPOILER}, one of the main characters will die, and I don’t mean Ryo, because that’s going to happen anyway. Bye bye.
