A nearby alarm clock sang loudly as a silver stallion fluttered his yellow eyes. The pegasus laid on his bed, waiting for his tired mind to wake up. The stallion was in his bedroom, which wasn't much due to the fact that he was jobless. It consisted of a small bed that barely fit the stallion, a desk with a lamp and an alarm clock, and a small drawer for all his clothes when it got a little too cold in Canterlot. He rolled over on his left side and stretched his hooves over to his desk, picking up his small clear glasses. He sighed as he got up and made his way to his small bathroom, humming the catchy song. He looked into the mirror and examined his messy black mane and face. He didn't consider himself attractive, nor did he consider himself ugly. He had a long, messy black mane with his wings a bit on the large side, but aside from that he was your everyday stallion. His cutie mark was a cloud with a white feather on it. "Another day to look for a job, Silver Sky," he thought to himself and grunted. Silver Sky quickly turned on his sad excuse for a shower, putting the heat all the way up. He quickly recoiled as his hoof touched the water, but stepped in anyways. What? He liked hot water! He made quick work of the shower, which consisted of him standing there as the hot water drenched him. The wet pegasus stepped out, his body glazed in a sense of ultimate cleanliness. Next began the process of preening his wings. Normally he didn't spend a whole lot of time with his wings, but he was most likely going to be doing the same thing he did yesterday and the day after that, so why not spend a little bit of time enjoying himself. A couple minutes gone by as he finished preening and the song on his alarm began to repeat again. He made his way over to the old alarm clock and turned it off. With a snort he walked out of his room and into the kitchen. There, on the counter, laid his divine bags of bagels that consisted of different flavors. Sky felt a smirk on his face and he grabbed a random bagel and began placing the cream cheese in the middle. He smiled with satisfaction and began devouring it as if demons from Tartarus were closing in on him. With his stomach satisfied and a sheepish grin growing on his face, he made his way outside. Silver Sky trotted briskly as he made his way down three flights of stairs to his mailbox to get his daily dose of random spam letters and newspaper articles. Out of the corner of his eye he noticed a short, dark blue mare with a saddlebag make her way towards him. She had a long, silky milk-colored mane and was a unicorn. The mare had a short tail about up to her haunches. Her cutie mark resembled a glowing lantern. "Oi! Sky!" Night Light yelled over to him, waving her hoof. Silver Sky smiled at her as she approached him. "Hey, how's it going Night Light?" Sky asked, opening his mailbox. "I've seen better days," the unicorn responded as the pegasus scanned through all his newspapers and job requests. Night Light glanced at the papers and sighed. "Seriously, you're STILL looking for a job?" the pegasus simply nodded. "I thought you managed to get a job last week?" Sky snorted and made his way back towards his home with Night Light following. "Dear Celestia, you said being a bartender was a good idea? I somehow get pulled into a fight by a drunk unicorn and next thing you know I'm fired," the pegasus sighed while Night Light suppressed a giggle. "Oh, so THAT'S where you got your black eye! You should tell me the whole story later," Night Light said unable to hold in her laughter. Silver Sky just glared at her and stuck out his tongue. "How about no, and besides I had to get a new pair of glasses. With a low budget, that is not fun," the pegasus responded as he finally made his way back towards his home. He opened the door for Night Light and they both entered into his living room. "Such a gentlecolt," she laughed. Silver Sky simply frowned and made his way to his brown leather couch. He sighed as he placed the newspapers onto the brown coffee table. Night Light came over and sat next to him. "Sorry Night, it's just I've been stressing out and I really need a job. Most of the jobs I find don't pay enough," he looked away from her. "Besides the bits I saved up are slowly dwindling down." "Hey, c'mon, don't be like that," Night said patting Sky's back. "Besides I found something you might like." Silver Sky raised an eyebrow as Night Light's horn glowed brightly and began searching for something through her saddlebag. After two minutes of searching she finally found what she was looking for. She slams an article onto his coffee table. "Jeez, takes you that long to find that?" he smiled slightly and picked up the newspaper she had. Night Light simply sticks her tongue out and puts her hoof over a certain article. The pegasus quickly examined it and looks down. "So...?" she looks at him, expecting a response. Sky sighs and looks up at her. "Well... it pays well, and I don't have to work too hard, I have the skill sets for it... but... I dunno... I mean, this job is in a small town?" he asked with a hint of distaste. Silver Sky wasn't very fond of small towns. He was never traveled around unless he had too. He was born in Canterlot and the only other city he's been too was Cloudsdale to visit his relatives. "Oh come on!" She exclaims. "It can't possibly be that bad, and besides you do need the bits right?" The pegasus's ears flatten and nods his head reluctantly. They sat there for a while enjoying each others company, until Night Light finally places a hoof in Silver Sky's chest. "You'll be fine. Trust me," She smiles a gentle, comforting smile and nuzzles him. Silver Sky let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. The silver stallion relaxed and laid against the soft cushions of his couch. "Thank you Night Light," he smiles slightly. "for being there every step of the way." "What are friends for?" She smirks and punches him in the shoulder. Silver Sky picked himself off the comfortable couch and began scribbling his plans on a nearby calender. Silver Sky was scared of leaving Canterlot, but what other choice did he have? It was either the bits, or live out homeless. "Although... I could possibly ask Night Light if I can stay with her," Silver Sky pondered to himself and smirked. "I guess I can ask her about it later." "Alright, so I plan to pack some of my stuff and head over there by... Friday. Today's Tuesday, right?" The stallion asked. The unicorn nods her head and watches him take out brown cardboard boxes from a nearby closet. "I don't have much stuff so I should be fine. All I need to find is someplace I can stay when I get there." "There should be a cheap inn you can stay at until you can find somepony who is willing to have a roommate," she suggested. The stallion takes note of that and begins placing his belongings into the box. Night Light smiles and goes over to help him pack up. An hour later... Silver Sky let off an obnoxiously loud yawn as he placed the last of his scarfs from High School into the brown cardboard box. The silver pegasus glanced over at his alarm clock and noticed it just past noon. He sighed in relief, knowing he still had the whole day to spend with his best friend. The apartment was pretty much barren by the time they finished packing everything. Silver Sky didn't have much stuff in his home anyways and the only thing he left behind was the bed, desk, and the small drawer in his room. Suddenly, something tapped his shoulder from behind. "Dear Celestia's flank!" he screeched, jumping ten feet in the air and landing face first onto his desk, thankfully his glasses remained intact. Night Light began rolling on the floor and laughing like a little filly. Silver Sky right eye twitched as he faced Night Light, a devious plan forming in his head. As she finished her laughing spree she noticed Silver Sky grow ominously dark, a creepy smile forming on his face. "Uh... dude... are you ok-" "GET THE FUCK OVER HERE!" he gave off a loud battle cry and charged at Night Light. She yelped as Silver Sky pinned her on the floor, staring into her eyes with a dangerous, psychopathic glint in them. He raised his one free hoof into the air menacingly. "Oh Celestia no, don't do what I think you're going to- AUGH!" she screamed as she burst out laughing. Silver Sky began his ferocious assault on tickling Night Light to death. "Oh god- SKY! STOP, STOP IT!" she thrashed and struggled against Silver Sky's mighty grip, but it was hopeless. "Do you yield!?" Silver Sky shouted in a very commanding, playful voice. She tried to speak, but it came off as silly yelps. "Okay! Ok-okay!" she managed to say. "I yield! I yield!" The unicorn was nearly on the verge of tears as the pegasus stopped his assault and they both laid there, panting hard. The two simply laid there, admiring one another. However, it quickly ended as they realized they were staring and looked away, blushing furiously. Sky finally got up and held a hoof over to help the unicorn up. She smirked and took the hoof. "Oookay... I WAS going to mention if you wanted to hang out with me today until SOMEPONY decided to attack me," she accused playfully. Sky snorted. "Hey, it your fault you scared me half to death," he mumbled as he made his way through the narrow hallway and into his living room where two brown boxes were piled up in the corner of the room. Night Light suppressed a giggle. "I hope those boxes aren't horridly disorganized," he glared at her as he began to check the boxes. The mare just laughed. "Hey, I actually TRIED to make it organized this time ya' know." she smiled pridefully. "Pfft, like that's something to feel proud about," the pegasus snorted. The mare simply rolled her eyes. "Anyways, aren't you suppose to be at work?" he asked. She just shrugged and looked away. "I got the week off," she stated blankly. However, her eyes lit up like a light bulb. "Oh Celestia! I completely forgot!" Night Light sat down and began the painstaking process of searching through her very unorganized saddlebag. "I seriously need to organize your saddlebag one day," the pegasus said, facehoofing. After a minute of searching, the mare took out two glowing, bright yellow tickets. Stallion tilted his head in confusion. "I just remembered I got two tickets to see the Wonderbolts perform," her face goes red, "um... if you want to go see them with me?" Silver Sky gasps in surprise as he sees the two tickets. Luckily for her, he didn't notice the mare's light blush and went in for a tight hug. The unicorn's blush intensified and returned the hug. "Pfft, of course I'd go with you!" he grinned excitingly, "Where did you get the bits to buy these anyways, they're V.I.P. spots too!?" "Well... I got a promotion in my job the other day and my boss kinda gave me two tickets," she rubbed the back of her head and smirked. Silver Sky hugged her even tighter. "You're the greatest friend anypony can ask for, ya' know?" he said as he nuzzled her. The Night Light now furiously blushing. "Y-yup I k-know." she stuttered. "So, you ready to head out?" The silver stallion released her and stood back up. He nodded as he walked over to his closet and picked up his saddlebag. Finally they open the front door and step outside. "So," Silver Sky hesitantly asks, "Where are we headed anyways?" She simply laughs and winks at him. "You'll see." > Chapter 2 - A Walk in the Park > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 2 - A Walk in the Park The two left the house quickly and made sure they had everything with them. Silver Sky kept his saddlebag close to him, feeling a sense of security with something by his side. The stallion, for some reason, felt insecure without his saddlebag and brought it around with him almost everywhere he went. The two easily made their way through the slightly crowded marble streets of Canterlot. Night Light trotted at a brisk pace, wanting to get there in time, while Silver Sky sluggishly walked behind her. The mare noticed him lagging behind and stopped. She walked back over to him and bumped him with her hip. “Why so slow?” she asked with a smirk. The stallion yawned and rubbed his eye with his one hoof. “Just a lil’ drowsy from packing stuff all day in the house,” the stallion stated simply. The mare gave out a yawn of her own. “Sheesh, your yawns are contagious,” that caused the stallion to snicker. “Anyways, we’re already here!” Night Light grinned and moved out of the way so the pegasus can see. Silver Sky simply facehoofed at what he saw. “Seriously? You’re going to make me go drinking again?” the stallion frowned. “You know I don’t have the bits for something as simple as this.” The mare rubbed a hoof behind her head and smiled sheepishly, “Well, that’s why I’M going to go pay for it.” The stallion rolled his eyes. “Besides, it’s my treat.” “Pfft, it’s always your treat; you’re the one with the bits. I should be able to pay for my own once in a while,” the stallion protested. “And besides, remember what happened LAST time we went drinking?” The mare punched him lightly on the shoulder. “Oh c’mon, it wasn’t THAT bad the last time we went drinking.” Silver Sky glared at her. “Okaaay… maybe it was pretty bad besides we’ll drink lightly, alright?” Silver Sky stood there, contemplating on what he should do. Night Light studied his face until the stallion simply sighed. “Alright, alright, we can have your fun. But remember, we’re drinking LIGHTLY,” the stallion waved his hooves around to add extra emphasis. Night Light began cheering and bouncing around like a little filly. “Don’t worry, I’ll make this worth it!” she exclaimed happily. The stallion rolled his eyes and wondered what he got himself into. Night Light was always the type of mare to drink a lot, but he knew she wasn’t an alcoholic or anything. Hopefully she’ll keep her word. Hopefully. Sometime later… The bar strangely called the I Don’t Care Bar was hardly crowded as Night Light and Silver Sky conversed around a small wooden table. The two sat next to each other on the table opposite of the bar as Silver Sky leaned against his wooden chair, taking small sips of his drink as it slowly dwindled down into nothingness. Night Light, on the other hoof, downed her fourth. She snickered as she poured another glass of the bar’s special Cyder mead. “Gah, this stuff is-hic-strong,” the pegasus said as he giggled. His throat, however felt like it was on fire. “You sure it’s okay doing this?” The tipsy mare laughed loudly. “Uf’ course, Sky!” the mare exclaimed, her speech slightly slurred. “Besides’-hic-what er’ friends for?” the mare said grinning sheepishly and put her hoof around the stallion’s neck. She gave a small burp and blushed slightly. The stallion snorted at the mare’s tipsiness. “I also wanted to show you somethin’ cool after this.” The pegasus raised an eyebrow and looked over at the mare. “What are we talking about-hic-here, Night?” The mare put her mouth to his ear. The stallion’s eyes widened as she felt her alcoholic breath against his neck. “It’s a surprise,” the mare whispered in his ear seductively causing Silver Sky to shudder slightly, blushing furiously. The mare bellowed in laughter at her friend’s reaction, while the stallion averted his eyes from gaze. “Trust me! Et’s someplace really cool!” The stallion simply rolled his eyes as the mare got up and beckoned him to follow her. “Aye, aren’t you going to pay?” the stallion asked as she suddenly pauses. She looked back, a silly guilty grin on her face. “Oh yeah, huh?” the mare said embarrassingly. Silver Sky simply facehoofed. More time passes… It was sunset as the now sober mare and stallion trotted through the large marble city of Canterlot. Silver Sky looked both ways, tossing a puzzled expression to Night Light. The unicorn rolled her eyes and simply waved a hoof to follow her. The stallion sighed as they left the poverty area of Canterlot, where he resided and into the snobby and rich portion of town. Silver Sky disliked this area of Canterlot as it was usually filled with the snobby, stuck-up unicorns. It was hard for ponies to believe that there was an area in Canterlot where lots of the poor ponies reside, but it was the sad truth. It wasn’t the amazing utopia that most ponies thought it could be due to all the rich stallions and mares, but it was certainly far from terrible. As the two proceeded deeper into the rich section of Canterlot and closer to the castle, Silver Sky was certainly getting a curious to where exactly they were going. He was also getting very sleepy after that drinking session and he didn’t even drink that much. “Hey um… where exactly are you taking me?” Silver Sky whined tiredly, fidgeting his hooves together. “I told you, it’s a surprise!” the unicorn exclaimed, throwing her hooves up in the air for more emphasis. At least she can speak normally again, Silver Sky thought. “Sky, it wouldn’t be a surprise if you know what’ll happen,” She stated simply and continued walking. Sky simply rolled his eyes and he followed right after her. After a long walk through the marble pathways, Night Light made a sharp turn through an alley that was between two very large buildings. After a couple of turns through the alley the two finally made out into a large, crowded plaza. The plaza consisted of shops that surrounding a large fountain in the middle. The fountain had a statue of Princess Celestia and a newly added Princess Luna on it. “You know, I’ve lived her all my life and the sight never ceases to amaze me,” Silver Sky said with awe. Night Light rolled her eyes and looked over to him. “That’s a bit of an understatement,” Night Light stated bluntly and continued walking. Silver Sky let out a snicker as they continued through the semi-crowded plaza. The plaza was in its busiest stage in the afternoon when everypony was up and about. Conversations rang aloud in the nice evening sky as the two passed by the plaza. As they made their way through the crowd, Night Light walked through the gates that lead to the royal Canterlot Garden. Silver Sky tilted his head in confusion and followed her anyways. Silver Sky considered this to be more of a park due to the looks and amount of tourists it gets every day, but it was relatively empty this warm evening. Silver Sky has only been to this place when his parents took him, but other than that he didn’t come here often. It was relatively field large with statues of ancient heroes and gods. Trees surrounded the field along with the large hedge maze that lots of ponies tend to get lost in for some reason. Night Light trotted past all the statues and went through the trees that surrounded the park with the silent pegasus following her. The two continued deeper through the thick trees, the two in deep silence as they listened to the birds chirping and the occasional squirrel that would climb up a tree as they got close. The stallion stared at the ground as the two walked in peaceful silence. The pegasus soon noticed that they were slowly moving uphill and can see small bits and pieces of the roofs of homes and buildings when he looked past the trees. After what seemed like eternity, Silver Sky crashed right into Night Light’s flank as she unexpectedly halts. “Gah!” the pegasus exclaims. He looked up and spotted what he bumped into and blushed furiously. Night Light’s face goes extremely red as she looked back at the stallion. “Uh… sorry,” she smiled sheepishly. The stallion looks away. “Um… it’s okay?” he looked away awkwardly. The mare poked him as he looked up and beckoned him forward. “We’re here already, come on take a look!” The mare grinned and tilted her head to the side to look behind the tree she was next too. The stallion simply shrugged and walked by her. As he slowly crept past the tree the stallion gasped in shock at what was the most stunning scene ever. What lay before him was an enormous tree near the edge of a cliff that overlooked a majority of the city in Canterlot. A small pond flowed right next to the tree with orange flowers against the stream. For a second, Silver Sky thought one began to emit light, but thought it was simply the bright setting sun that shone right past the cliff in the distance. “W-wow,” the pegasus stuttered. “T-this is amazing!” Even for a pegasus, Silver Sky had to admit this scene was simply stunning. Everything was so elegant, peaceful, and… simply beautiful. “How’d you manage to find this place?” The mare grinned and sat next to the tree, looking over the amazing view placed before them. “Well, it’s a long story if you REALLY want to know.” The stallion trotted over to Night Light and placed himself right next to her. “I got time you know.” He said nudging her. She smiles a gentle, caring smile back at him. “Well… it goes like this.”
