> Spike & Fluttershy > by Ice Fire > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > A Dance??? (edited) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was a perfect day in Ponyville. Not a cloud in the sky, everyone in a good mood, and all that. However... Spike walked around, admiring the scenery around him. He was calm at first, unti he heard a familiar party shriek... Pinkie Pie. Suddenly, the pink mare rushed towards him, shoving a flyer in his face. "LOOK, SPIKE!!! FLYERS TO A DANCE!" "Gah, be more careful, Pinkie Pie! "BUT READ IT!!!! IT'S HOSTED BY PRINCESS CELESTIA!!! A CANTERLOT DANCE!!!" "A dance...?" Spike held up the letter and read it out loud. "Tonight, I am hosting a Canterlot Dance. It will take place in the Canterlot Castle, at 8:15 P.M.. It will be a wonderful party where you can all "party 'till it's morning". "Yes, A DANCE! Spike? Spiiiike? You okay? Spike?" The baby dragon was lost in his thoughts. A dance would be perfect! And I can ask Rarity to be my date to this Canterlot Dance, "Spike? Spiiiike?" Spike perked up and pretended he was staring at the flyer. "Uh, thanks, Pinkie! I'l go to the dance." "YAY! I can't wait to party all night LONG!" With that, the little pink Earth Pony hopped off, handing the flyers to other ponies. Spike grinned happily at the flyer and said, "Time to ask my special unicorn out to the CANTERLOT DANCE!" He walked away like a proud captain of a ship. ... "Okay, guys. I gathered us all here to discuss something that Pinkie wants to tell us." Twilight Sparkle said, shifting her wings a bit. The Mane 6 were all gathered in Twilight's library-home. They were holding a meeting to discuss the Canterlot Dance. "Hopefully this time, it would actually make sense," Rainbow Dash muttered to herself. Twilight glared at her, but told Pinkie that she could start. Pinkie dashed right up to a nearby table and started blabbering about the party. "There will be epic music, and DJ- P0N-3 will be there! And there will be cake and refreshments, and--" Pinkie Pie was interrupted by the sound of the door opening. Spike ran in. "S-sorry I'm late for the meeting, guys!" he apologized. Twilight pulled her assistant to her side and patted him on the back and said, "Hey, big guy. It's nothing, really. Pinkie's just telling us about the Canterlot Dance. Pinkie Pie stared at Twilight. "NOTHING REALLY?! NOTHING REALLY?! It'll be the most important night of our lives!" Rarity covered her ears and shouted, "Pinkie Pie! You are literally breaking my eardrums!" Pinkie Pie apologized and went back to talking about the party. "Whew. Anyways, there will be cake, refreshments, party canons, DJ, and ALL OF THAT AMAZING PARTY-DANCE STUFF! SO BRING YOUR DATES! BECAUSE TONIGHT WILL BE THE--" Pinkie Pie stopped to pull out a megaphone and shouted, "GREATEST NIGHT EVEEEEEEERRRRRR!!!!!!" Pinkie finally calmed down and said, "Okay, group dismissed! ... Spike approached the large circular building that was the Carousel Boutique, wearing a tuxedo and holding a rose. He hoped that Rarity would say yes when he asks her if she'll be his date to the Canterlot Dance. He nervously knocked on the door. "Sweet Celestia, I hope this turns out good." > Rejected > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- When Rarity's door opened for Spike, it was Sweetie Belle who answered. She looked surprised to see the dragon. "Oh. Hey, Sweetie Belle. Can I see Rarity?" "Okay. But, what's with the suit?" "Uh...." "Nevermind. SIS! SPIKE'S HERE TO SEE YOU!" Rarity came to the door, and dismissed Sweetie Belle.. "Oh, hello, Spike! What brings you here? Nice tuxedo, by the way. It is downright dazzling!" Spike rubbed his arm nervously. Do it, Spike. This may be your only shot on getting Rarity to like you, he thought to himself. "Uh, R-Rarity? You know about that Canterlot Dance?" Rarity nodded. Spike continued. "Well, I was, uh, thinking... if you'd like to be my date to this dance?" Spike kneeled and held out the rose for Rarity. She blushed, but didn't answer. In a few minutes, she did. "I'm sorry, Spike, but I already have a date to the Canterlot Dance." Spike dropped the rose and his heart broke. Rarity's got a date... He stood up, and tried to shake the feeling off. "Oh...Well I guess that your date is a very lucky pony. Rarity spoke up. "Oh, he's a very charming pegasus. His name is Thunderlane. What a stunning name that is! Plus, he saved my life at the Wonderbolt Academy." "Okay... Well, thanks for saying." "Sorry, Spikey. Maybe next time?" "..." Spike waved goodbye and headed for Fluttershy's Cottage. Spike knocked on the door, and waited for an answer. Fluttershy opened the door, along with her pet rabbit, Angel. "Spike? What's with the long face..?" Spike just looked at his feet. Finally, he spoke up. " Huuugh. Rarity turned me down when I asked her to be my date to the Canterlot Dance." "Oh, Spike. Rarity dosen't know what she'll be missing. Come in." Spike entered the small cottage. It looked bigger on the inside than it did on the outside. Fluttershy flew to her couch, and patted the space next to her, gesturing for Spike to sit next to her. Spiked hopped onto the couch gloomily. "So, Spike." Fluttershy started, "Why come to me of all ponies?" Spike looked up at her, and said, "Because, you're the Element of Kindness, and I know that you'll be willing to help anyone in need. So can you help me, Fluttershy?" Fluttershy nodded. "Of course. What do you need help with?" > Advice? (edited) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spike sighed. "Well, uh, I, um, need advice on how to be, how do I put this..." Fluttershy tilted her head. "I need help on learning to be, uh, good enough for Rarity." Fluttershy simply raised an eyebrow. "But Spike, you don't need to change your personality to get someone to like you," she explained. "But, I'm just a... lame, pathetic, wierd, you-name-it baby dragon!" "I'll name it. How about the smartest, greatest, and most perfect dragon I've ever met." Fluttershy pulled Spike in close to her, and gave him a heartwarming hug. "Thanks, Flutters. But, uh, can you... at least give me advice?" Fluttershy nodded slightly, and Spike pulled out a pad. "Well, Spikey, to get somepony to like you, you have to always be yourself." Spike jotted down on his pad, Rule #1: Always be myself. Fluttershy continued. "Always make sure that your significant other will like your personality." Spike wrote. "Thanks a lot, Fluttershy." "No problem." Spike hopped of of the couch and petted Angel. "I guess I'll see you soon. Thanks again, Fluttershy!" With that, Spike left the cottage. Well, soon after he left, Fluttershy was banging her head against the wall. "GAH! Why did I miss my chance AGAIN?! I could've asked him out RIGHT THERE!" Fluttershy always had a crush on Spike, but no one knew. She didn't tell anypony, not even Twilight. She sighed. "Maybe next time I meet him when we're both alone." Fluttershy left the wall only to lie down on her couch. "Oh, who am I kidding. I'll never get him to be my date to the Canterlot Dance." ... "Delightful tea, Twilight. Thank you very much." Fluttershy said. "Oh, yes. Absolutely refreshing, darling!" The three mares, Fluttershy, Rarity, and Twilight were having tea in Twiilight's library. "Don't mention it, guys. I wanted to invite the others, but I know that Applejack would prefer cider, Pinkie Pie would prefer cupcakes, and Rainbow Dash would prefer anything OTHER than tea." After the mares had their drink, Rarity thanked Twilight and left. Fluttershy decided to stay for a bit, and they talked about the Canterlot Dance. "So, Twilight. who are you going with to the dance?" "Well, I was planning on going on my own." Fluttershy blinked at her. "Really?" "Yeah." "Oh. Well, I was really hoping I could've gone with Spike--" The pegasus turned away quickly. Gah, what did I just say, Twilight widened her eyes. "Did you just say... Spike? Fluttershy!" Fluttershy turned to Twilight and rubbed her neck. "Uh, maybe. I may slash may not have a teeny-tiny crush on him." Twilight had her eyes popping out of her head. "Fluttershy! This is huge! How long???" Fluttershy didn't look Twilight in the eyes. "Ever since we met." Soon after, they heard footsteps. Spike came running down the stairs. "Hey, Twilight. Hey, Fluttershy! Um, were you guys talking about me?" > Thanks, Fluttershy > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight and Fluttershy stared at Spike awkwardly. "Uh, no. We were just talking about the dance tonight." Twilight said, hoping that Spike didn't hear them, and most importantly, what they said about Fluttershy and Spike. Fluttershy looked at the clock. It was 4:03. Only four hours and twelve minutes left until the dance, she thought. Twilight then blurted out, "Hey, Spike, are you going with someone to the Canterlot Dance?" Spike slouched and shook his head. "No, unforetunately. I asked Rarity, but she already has a date." Twilight walked over to him, and gave him a quick noogie. "Sorry about that, Spike. Maybe you can get her next time." Spike managed to grin. "Sorry about that also, Spike." Fluttershy said. Spike stood up straight and smiled. "It's alright. It's not your fault at all. But I was really hoping that I could've had a date to the Canterlot Dance. You know, eat some cake, have some romantic dances, maybe take my lucky mare to the bridge and look up into the moonlight and share a kiss?" Fluttershy widened her eyes. "Well, Spike, if the dance means that much to you, then I'll go with you!" Fluttershy quickly placed her hoof on her mouth. What am I saying? Spike looked at her. "Really? You would actually go to the dance with me?" Spike felt awkward yet excited at the same time. Fluttershy grinned. "Uh, yeah! I'd do anything for my little dragon." Spike smiled even harder. "T-thanks, Fluttershy!" Spike started to run up the stairs. He stopped at the middle of the stairs and looked at Fluttershy again. "Uh, Well I guess I'll go find a tuxedo." Spike ran up the stairs. Twilight looked at Fluttershy. "Great job, Fluttershy! You're going to the Canterlot Dance with the dragon of your dreams!" Fluttershy grinned and rubbed her neck. Twilight walked up the stairs. Spike looked through his closet, searching for a tuxedo. Soon, there was a voice. "Heeeey! Spike!" It was Twilight. "Spike! Congratulations on your date to the dance!" Spike was confused. "Uh...Thanks? Why are you so.. concerned about me and Fluttershy? Wait... Do you think that Fluttershy..." Twilight smiled. "Yup. She has feelings for you, Spike." Spike widened his eyes. "B-but I like Rarity!" Twilight raised an eyebrow. "Oh, come on. Spike. You gotta wake up and smell the tea!" Spike dipped his head. Twilight patted him on the head. "There is a mare that has a crush on you, and in my opinion, a lot more sensitive than Rarity. Give her a chance." With that, Twilight walked down the stairs, leaving Spike lost in his thoughts. > The Dance Is Almost Here > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was 7:15. Only one hour until the dance. Fluttershy looked into her mirror, admiring what she was wearing. It was the dress that Rarity had made her for the Grand Galloping Gala. "I hope I look right. I wouldn't want to dissappoint Spike. I can't believe I'm going with him." She smiled at Angel and turned to the door. "I guess that the dance is almost here!" Spike looked into his mirror. He was wearing the tuxedo that he wore to Rarity's house when he tried to ask her out, and he also wore a simple top hat. He sighed. "So. Fluttershy likes me. This is the wierdest love triangle ever. I have to figure this out." Soon, Twilight came to him and blinked at him. Soon after, she laughed. "Ahahaha! Is that really what you're wearing to the dance?" Spike glared at her. "Don't get me started. I am VERY confused and I have no time for clothes." Twilight stopped laughing. "You're still weird-looking. Anyways, do I look good? Princess Celestia is going to be at the party, and I want to look good." Spike inspected her dress. It was blue, with strokes of purple around it. "Yeah. Sure. You look great. Now, I'll go get Fluttershy." Twilight raised her eyebrows and smirked. "Alright. I'll go with you. You pick up your marefriend and you can romantically carry her to Canterlot." Spike sneered and elbowed her. "Heeeeey. Fluttershy is not my marefriend. We're just going as friends. You can fly to Canterlot on your own." Twilight smiled. "Okay! But are you sure you can go in the dark?: "Yeah. It's really not that dark, though." "Okay, Romeo. I'll go to Canterlot along with my date, then--" "Wait, I thought you said you were going alone." "I was, then Flash Sentry asked me to the dance." Spike raised an eyebrow. "Flash Sentry? Isn't he that dude you met in the other worl--" Twilight placed a hoof over his mouth. "Yeah. Yes it is." Twilight unfolded her wings. "I guess I'm going. I'll meet you there, Spike!" With that, Twilight flew out of the house, out of sight. Spike looked at his feet. "I guess the dance is almost here." It was 8:00 The dance was coming. Fluttershy frantically looked for her butterfly-shaped earring, then found it in Angel's food bowl. She washed it and put it on. "Oh, it's near eight fifteen! Spike must be on his way! Angel, play it cool! Just play it cool..." Angel glared at her and shook his head. The little bunny pushed her to the couch. "Okay, Angel. I'll relax." She sat down on the soft couch and took a deep breath. "I'm just worried that I'll dissappoint Spike." Angel shook his head. "Thanks, Angel. I--" Fluttershy was interrupted by a knock at the door. "EEK! Uh, coming!" Fluttershy dashed to the door fast and opened it. There, in the doorway, was the little purple baby dragon, kneeling and holding out a white rose for the pegasus. > Dancing With You > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fluttershy blushed and widened her eyes. "Sp-Spike! I-I--" Spike handed the white rose to Fluttershy and she happily placed it in her hair, like a decoration. "Hello, milady. Now. Don't we have a dance to attend?" "Yes, yes we do. Nothing can possibly go wrong." The two reached Canterlot Tower on time. Before they entered the castle, they happened to meet with Rarity and Thunderlane. Fluttershy greeted them. "Rarity! Welcome! Who's your date?" Rarity smiled at Thunderlane. "This is Thunderlane. The most handsome pegasus in Equestria." Thunderlane blushed. Spike walked Fluttershy inside. They both widened their eyes when they entered. The hallway was beautiful. "WOAH..." "Spike, this is.... wow." "I can't believe this." "Me niether." The two walked around, admiring the decorations that were put up. "Hey, Fluttershy!" The pegasus turned to him. "Yes?" "How about I get us some punch?" The baby dragon pointed to a table with a fruit punch bowl on it. Fluttershy smiled at him. "Thank you so much. You are such a gentledragon." Spike ran to get the fruit punch. He grabbed two empty plastic cups, and filled them with the juice. Then, something horrible happened. While Spike was running back to Fluttershy, he tripped over somepony's hoof and spilled the punch all over his date. "GAH!" "Oh no! I-I am so sorry, Fluttershy!" Fluttershy tried to avoid being embarrased. Luckily, no one seemed to be paying attention to them. There were a lot of people there, anyway. Spike rushed away to get some napkins (sure, he could have gotten paper towels, but he wasn't thinking.). "Here! Fluttershy!" The dragon tried to wipe away the stain, but the dress had already absorbed it. "Oh, no! I am SO sorry, Fluttershy! I-It was an accident!" The yellow pegasus put her arm (if she had any arms) around the dragon. "I-it's okay, Spikey. It was an accident. And accidents happen." The baby dragon moped and sighed. "Hopefully it won't happen again." Fluttershy didn't say anything. Instead, she nodded slightly and managed to smile. Spike tried to change the subject. "Hey, look! It's Twilight and Flash Sentry!" The two spotted Twilight Sparkle and Flash Sentry walking towards them. "Spike! Fluttershy! Isn't this place great?" Twilight said. "Hey, Fluttershy, what happened to you? You look... soaked." Fluttershy turned away in embarrasment. "Um, nothing..." Twilight stared at her. "Oooh... kay? Well, guys. Meet Flash Sentry! Isn't he charming?" Flash Sentry modestly smiled. "Th-thanks, Twilight." "Hm-hm." "Hey, so the first dance is starting!" Spike widened his eyes and turned to Fluttershy. "Did you hear that? The first dance is starting!" Fluttershy smiled. "R-Really? Then what are we waiting for?" The two heard some loud feedback from a microphone. They turned to a DJ table, and they saw DJ Pon3 holding a microphone to her mouth. "Testing, testing, one-two-three. Alright! Is everypony having fun?" The whole main hall cheered. "YAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" The DJ, Vinyl Scratch, yelled into the microphone. "ALRIGHT THEN! LET'S PARTY!" Suddenly, random strobe lights burst out and came on. Then, epic music played from the DJ's turntable. "Fluttershy! Isn't this cool so far?" The yellow pegasus looked around. "Uh, I'm not sure what to do right now..." "Well, that's easy! We dance!" Spike started to dance along with the music that was playing- the Cotton Eyed Colt. "Come on, Fluttershy! Everypony knows this dance!" "O-Okay..." Fluttershy started off the dance slowly, then came into a rush. "Woo-hoo! This is fuuun- woah!" The pegasus accidentally bumped into a unicorn. Then the unicorn bumped into Twilight, then Twilight bumped into Flash Sentry, then Flash Sentry bumped into a unicorn with a lyre for a cutie mark... "Oh! Oh no!!!" "Woah, Fluttershy. It's a pony domino course." "Oh man. This is all my fault!" Spike tried to comfort her, but the yellow pegasus was freaking out. She tried backing away, but tripped over Spike's foot and fell on top of... "Princess Celestia!" somepony shouted. Fluttershy had fell on top of the most powerful alicorn in the history of alicorns. "Oh my! I am so sorry, Miss Princess Celestia!" Princess Celestia stood up straight and nudged Fluttershy with a wing and walked away to the DJ table. Spike's mouth hung open. "Woah. Just... uh..." "Oh, Spike! This is a horrible night..." "Relax. I'm sure that nothing will happen again." "I sure hope you're right..." They watched as the princess of Canterlot walked up to the DJ table and was handed the microphone. "Welcome, and good evening everypony. I sure hope that you all are having a good time. I am here to tell you that very special guests are here today. Put your hooves together for Princess Mi Amore Cadenza and Shining Armor!" Two ponies walked into sight. Everypony clapped. Princess Cadence smiled and took the microphone that was handed to her by Celestia. "I hope that all of you have the greatest night of your lives. This dance is very wonderful, and was out together by me, my husband, Princess Luna, and Princess Celestia. Please enjoy the Canterlot Dance." With that, Vinyl Scratch bust out a beat and everypony went back to dancing. Spike and Fluttershy on the other hand, remained silent. Finally, Spike spoke up. "So. Let's dance?" Fluttershy still stood silent. She muttered something under her breath, but Spike didn't hear. "Sp-Spike... Tonight wasn't what I dreamed it would be." Spike felt bad for her. "Listen, Flutters. Some nights may be wonderous, and others may be horrible. But just remember. It always gets better." Fluttershy slouched and moped. "B-But... It hasn't go--" She was interrupted by Vinyl Scratch. "Alright! Now it's time to bring it dooown for a second! Mares, gentlecolts, now's your time to dance." The strobe lights changed to pink spotlights, and the music turned into a slow song. A slow song where couples dance. Fluttershy's eyes began to water. "I-I need to go..." She stormed out of the main hall and outside, moping in the moonlight. Spike was puzzled. "Wait! Futtershy! What's wrong?" He decided to chase after her. He ran outside, and saw Fluttershy just moping around. "Flutters... What happened?" Fluttershy turned around to look at him, revealing that she had tears dripping down her cheek. "This night... was supposed to be the greatest night ever in the history of greatest nights ever... but it was instead the worst and most humiliating night in my life." "But, remember what I said! Things will always get better!" "I don't think they will." Spike held his hand out. "Listen, Fluttershy. Your night may have some flaws, but you still haven't had your dance yet. So I will give you that dance." Fluttershy stared at his hand, then managed to grin. "Spike..." She placed her hooves in his claws... And they began to dance to the beat of the music coming from the inside. "Fluttershy...There's something that I realized..." "Spike... Thank you so much. For this dance. You really made this night special." "Thank you, also, Fluttershy. I wouldn't give this dance for anything in the world. You... You are a great friend." The two enjoyed their dance, and they didn't notice the spotlight that was focused on them and the huge crowd watching them from inside. > Taking Flight > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Two days after the Canterlot Dance... ... Spike looked up into the shimmering sunset. He sat upright while on the top of a hill, getting a perfect view of the setting sun of Celestia. What's more, he was with Fluttershy. The pegasus admired the young dragon, and always had. She just wished that she had the courage to ask him on a date... "Spike, isn't this a wonderful sight?" "I know. It really is beautiful." "I-I... Yes." The yellow pegasus glanced to her side, where she was hiding a box. It was a gift for Spike. She just hoped it was good enough. She took a deep breath and pulled out the box, exposing it to the baby dragon. Spike smiled and stammered, "F-Fluttershy, you d-didn't have to get me anything!" Fluttershy smiled back and opened the box. Inside it was a fire ruby carved into the shape of a heart, much like the ruby that Spike gave to Rarity, except it was smaller and was a necklace. "For you." She took the necklace from the box and placed it around Spike's neck. Spike stared at the ruby, and saw his reflection in it. He absolutely loved it. "Flutters... Thanks." Fluttershy stood up and unfolded her wings. "Hey, do you care to fly with me?" Taking flight. It was epic. Especially if you were a dragon who had spent his entire life on the ground. Spike felt the wind blow onto his face. It was a great feeling. Fluttershy dived, rolled, and ducked as she gave Spike the ride of his life in the sky. She, herself, was enjoying it, as this was her very first joyride (Or joy-fly?). "Now I know how Rainbow Dash feels when she flies! This is cool!" "I knoooooooow!" As Spike held onto Fluttershy, he looked at the fire ruby necklace and then looked back at the pegasus. He had to shout in order for Fluttershy to hear his words over the wind. "Fluttershy, I just want to tell you... That I've always sort of admired you for a little while." Fluttershy didn't say anything in return, but Spike knew that she was smiling. "Thaaaanks for the riiiiiide!" "Yoooou're welcome, Spikey!" Spike looked down on the lands, then at the rising moon of Luna. It was a sight for sore eyes. Just plain awesome. Fluttershy dived down, startling Spike a little. The pegasus was headed for the hill the two were on before Fluttershy took off. They landed fast and tumbled onto the grass. "Woah. That was cool. Thanks. I've never felt so alive." "Me neither. It was.. pretty cool, I guess." "Cool? It was awesome! No, EPIC!" Fluttershy pulled him in for a hug, then noticed how late it was. Luna's moon was already shining. "Spike, maybe you should go back to the library. Twilight might be worried!" Spike shook his head. "Nope. It's not that late." "Are you sure? We've been flying for quite a long time." "Really?" Spike looked past Fluttershy, and saw the moon up in the dark sky. "Oh." He sat back on the grass, and Fluttershy did so also. They stared at the moon for a few minutes, then looked at each other. They did not say anything, until Fluttershy broke the silence. "Spike... Tonight was fun, right?" "Yes. Thank you very much... For taking me to fly, this fire ruby, and most of all, being a great friend." The two stared into each other's eyes for a minute. Then they started to lean closer to each other. Until... Spike's lip pressed onto Fluttershy's, locking them in a heartwarming kiss. After a second, they came apart, blushing. Fluttershy smiled and Spike rubbed his arm. M-my first kiss, they both thought. Then they sat together on the grassy hill, staring at each other in the moonlight, unaware that they were being watched by a particular lavender pony through a magic window. Twilight frowned as she watched Spike and Fluttershy together. She was watching the two through a magic window she summoned. She summoned the window because she was worried about Spike. It was midnight, after all. The princess slowly closed the window and levitated a picture frame towards her. The frame held a photo of her and Spike hugging. The alicorn had treasured it for as long as she could remember. She held the picture frame close to her and hugged it. "Spike... I love you..." The moon shone brightly that very night. The end... Or not.
