> Pain & Suffering > by Princess Glitzy > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > You Can't Stop The Inevitable > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- April Showers rocks back and forth, humming a little tune. "Are you okay, sis? It's just a storm. Thunder and lightning aren't so scary." She looks back at me with her sparkling, light blue eyes. "They are Fluttershy. It frightens me. What if they figure out how to hurt me? How come you are so brave?" I blush slightly. "I wouldn't call myself brave, and you don't have to worry about getting hurt by the weather. It won't hurt you. You'll be safe." She opens her mouth in shock. "B- But you're my big sister! You are sooooooo brave!" "Thank you for saying that." Just then, a tree smashes into our window. April's scream pierces the air. I run over to her and move her away from all the shattered glass. She shakes violently, both from fear and from the cold air that was now streaming through our living room window. "Shhhhh. It's okay," I wrap her in my forelegs and give her a tight hug. "I'll keep you safe." April smiles and begins to settle down. "I love you, Fluttershy." This always brings joy to my heart. "I love you too." I stroke her mane while she tries to fall asleep. I want to pick her up and bring her to her bed, but she just looks so peaceful. I think of her safety first though, so I move her, gently, and bring her upstairs to her bed. When I place her down she stirs slightly. "I wanna sleep in your bed with you." "You're a big filly aren't you? Do you really need me?" She nods. Figures. *sigh* "Come on. Let's go little one," I hold her hoof and walk her over to my bed. "You can jump up there! You can do it little sis!" She grabs the bed sheet and I hoist her up. April jumps happily and pats my spot, gesturing for me to lay down. "Night, night." "I love you. Night, night, Fluttershy." I snuggle close to her and drape the butterfly patterned blanket over to two of us. We both close our eyes and fall asleep. Fluttershy gallops through the wilderness. Birds squawk and timberwolves howl around her. "APRIL SHOWERS! APRIL! LITTLE SIS! COME OUT! WHERE ARE YOU?!" She wants to and needs to find her sister. But, she's never anywhere. Fluttershy trips over a tree root, but continues, not paying attention to her pain. She searches through bushes, trees and higher. "PLEASE! WHERE ARE YOU?! COME BACK!" Fluttershy gallops faster now with tears pouring from her face. She gets scratched by low branches and plants cut her legs, she must go forward, though. Fluttershy has to find her. She dives into a small lake in search of her sister. Fluttershy checks everywhere, but to no avail. She checks the coral, the seaweed and even in the sand. She emerges from the water and takes off into the sky without even drying off. "APRIL!!!! APRIL!!!!" "AHHHHHHH!!! HELP ME!" An unmistakable cry fills her ears. I wake up out of breath. "It was just a nightmare." I turn over to grab my sister and she's not there. Then, the figure of a stallion creeps toward me, out of the shadows, a little filly in his arms. It's her. "April? APRIL!!!!" I jump towards the stallion with nothing, but a baseball bat from the floor. He seems ready though and he pulls out a knife. "LET GO OF HER! PLEASE!" I shed a tear. "Is this your sister?" His voice is evil and cold. "...Y- Yes." He smiles wickedly. "I'm going to kill her." I'm suddenly filled with fury and I hit him with the bat. He drops April and I scoop her up, discarding the bat. "...Fluttershy...?" I nod back, I can't speak. "I- I knew that you would s- save me..." She begins to fall asleep, but stays semi alert and that's when I notice her scratches. Her throat has been slit, but not enough to kill her and she must have been stabbed a few times. She's been punched or maybe strangled, but I mustn't give up hope. "YOU ARE A DESPICABLE STALLION! I WILL KILL YOU!" I lunge at him and grab for his neck, but he grabs hold on his knife and slices my chest. Blood begins to pour from my wound and I can just barely keep myself from fainting at the sight. He takes my pause to punch me in the gut, April fall from my forelegs. I fall onto the ground and feel my hurt stomach burning and aching. He kicks my sister in the head until she is covered in bruises and blood. I then punch him in the face and he staggers back. His nose is gushing blood so most likely I've broken his nose. I reach for his knife, but he's smart and he stabs my shoulder. "AAAAHHH!" I yelp in pain. He gets on top of me and prepares to stab me in the chest, but I use my legs to push him off. I can almost reach the bat when he shoves it away. I crawl towards it and when he jumps I hit him in the head with it. The stallion nearly faints, but he grabs April by the neck and backs away. He pulls out a gun from his jacket and points it at her head. "Come any closer and I'll shoot her brains out." I drop my weapon and fall to my knees. "Don't hurt her. She's a bright, young filly." He smiles evilly. "I- I will always l- love you Fluttershy. Y- You tried... your... best." He pulls the trigger. "AAAAAHHHHHH!" I hear a blood curdling scream and the sound of a dead body hitting the floor. She lies there, silent, with her bloodshot eyes still open and blood covering her mane. I want to cry, but the one thing on my mind is avenge my sister. "I WILL KILL YOU!!!" I run up to him and do a spin kick. He tries to shoot me so I hit his gun and the two fall onto the ground. I grab his gun and hold it shakily in my hooves. "You can't kill me, you're just a stupid mare with a stupid sister." I stare at him with crazy eyes and a twisted smile. "It's already done." The bullets come out full force into his chest and head. I finally allow myself to process what's just happened. My sister lies motionless on the ground. I inch towards her and look into her eyes. They look scared. Tears start flowing down my face like a waterfall and I lay my blood stained mane and head on her frail chest. "I love you, April Showers. Y- you will always be... my sister." I get up and close her eyes. I rock back and forth singing the same tune my sister had earlier. Lightning cracks through the sky and I can once again hear the thunder and the sound of rain coming down. I said to her just a few hours ago, 'You'll be safe'. I guess that it wasn't true. "It's been a- about um... five years since then. I don't think that I- I have been the same since then. Everypony tells me that I'm um... shy. I didn't use to be. It's o- only been since then. I am as shy as my sister once was. It make me feel closer to her i- in a way. That is a um... nice feeling. Maybe she can still live on in me if I act like her. I guess I'll never know..."
