The Cutie Mark Crusaders trotted out of school that afternoon. The sun was shining, and everypony was happy. Scootaloo faced her friends after she saw a silhouette soar cross the sky. Make that two silhouettes. One mare, one stallion. "Is that Soarin'?" Scootaloo asked her friends. "And... Rainbow Dash?"

Apple Bloom, who saw it as well, nodded cheerfully. "Yep! Ah heard they got together after ah date!"

Scootaloo frowned. She was hoping to ask Rainbow Dash something when she wasn't busy-but at THIS rate, she probably wouldn't have any time for her at all! Now that she had Soarin'. "Well," Scootaloo said, "I gotta go. See you later! Our cutie mark hunting can wait till later!"

Scootaloo rode her scooter into town, where Rainbow and Soarin' sat together under a shady tree. "I love you... Soarin'..." Rainbow said. It was kind of hard to hear their voices from where Scootaloo was standing, listening. They kissed, then Soarin' flew off into the sky. Rainbow watched him as she accidentally bumped into Scootaloo, which caused Scootaloo to fall over into a puddle of mud. "Oops! Sorry, Scoots!" Rainbow laughed gently as she pulled Scootaloo up. Scootaloo brushed off the mud on her mane and tail, then arrowed her eyes at Rainbow Dash.

"Rainbow Dash, can we talk? I need a favor," Scootaloo asked.

"Yeah, Scoots! What'cha need?"

"How do you fly so well?"

Rainbow Dash froze in her tracks. "I taught... myself."
Scootaloo tilted her head. "You? Taught YOURSELF? But you're so good! You think I could fly like that?"

"Yep!"

Scootaloo excitedly woke up from her sleep. The night before, she had spoke with Rainbow Dash about flying. Rainbow promised to give Scootaloo flying lessons for free!

"Yep! I'll tell you what: Meet me here at 4:00 SHARP tomorrow, and I'll teach you how to fly!" is what Rainbow said clearly to Scootaloo.

The excitement was killing Scootaloo, so she couldn't keep still; she decided to go there right that minute. Even if it WAS 7:30 A.M.!

The tree Rainbow and Soarin' were sitting at the other day, is what Scootaloo sat underneath while she waited. She saw different ponies trot around town, nuzzling noses and shopping and chatting. Scootaloo noticed how the town got less busy as the day went on, and she fell asleep soon.

She opened her eyes. The sun sat an inch above the mountain in the distance. That meant it was about 8:00 at NIGHT. Scootaloo gasped as she jolted from her sleep. "Rainbow Dash? RAINBOW DASH?!" Scootaloo cried. There was no reply. She felt the tears pour down her face as she curled into a ball on the soft, dewy grass. Rainbow had promised! And Scootaloo knew for a fact that Rainbow Dash would of woken her up if she came. Scootaloo moaned as she started to get up-then she saw the saddest thing above her. Rainbow and Soarin' perched on a fluffy cloud, drinking cider. Talking above love movies and the Wonderbolts group.

"Rainbow Dash! You promised!" Scootaloo cried.

No answer came to her, just a mad glance from Soarin', who ignored her and began to talk with Rainbow Dash once more. Scootaloo sighed, as more tears poured down her face as she trotted home.

Scootaloo used the rusty key to get inside her home to shove open the door. She wooden floor cracked and creaked as Scootaloo took her steps to her room. She pushed open her door and climbed into her dusty bed, looking up at her bookshelf where a picture of Rainbow Dash-her hero-lied. Scootaloo looked down at her blanket as she cried herself asleep.

The roosters cook-a-doodle dooed outside Scootaloo's window. Scootaloo opened her eyes an inch as she stared at her floor, where the sunlight cast a Pegasus figure onto her floor. Scootaloo lowered herself out of bed and made herself some oats for her breakfast.

Outside, the moon still shone in the sunlight. Scootaloo looked at it, reminded of her horrible night. She quickly turned away. Rainbow stood right there. "Hey, Scoots," Rainbow said. Scootaloo ducked her head. "Yeah?"

"I want to tell ya I'm sorry."

Scootaloo raised her head an inch.

"I was wrong to break the promise. I just got so caught up with Soarin' I so forgot. Can you ever forgive me, Scoots?"

Scootaloo hoofed the ground. "Yeah... I could and I will."

Rainbow smiled. "Thanks, kid."

"No issue. R-Rainbow." Scootaloo trotted up Rainbow and hugged her. Rainbow smiled brightly and hugged her back.

"I'll never break a promsie to you again, kid."

And that was a promise Rainbow Dash never broke.

"Okay, Scoots. Just focus on your flying," Rainbow instructed as she held Soarin' tightly. Scootaloo shut her eyes then opened them again as she raised her wings. She didn't look down as she aimed her body towards the sky. She let her wings carry herself off the cliff. She was flying!

"You're doin' it, Scoots!" Rainbow said, cheering Scootaloo on.

Scootaloo opened her eyes wider as she noticed she was flying-off the cliff!

"I'm doing it!!!" Scootaloo screamed, more happy than she'd ever been before. Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle watched happily below. "Ya go, Scootaloo!" Apple Bloom said. "Yeah!" Sweetie Belle yelled after Apple Bloom.

Scootaloo felt the wind carry her off the ground even more, as she aimed her arms in front of her and she grinned, dirty.

Until a Cutie Mark popped onto her flank.

"Oh my Celestia!" Scootaloo screamed even louder, staring at her flank. "My special talent... it's flying like Rainbow Dash!!"

Rainbow Dash smiled, bearing her teeth as she watched Scootaloo soar. Soarin' pulled Rainbow a full kiss, and the CMCs (on the ground) hugged each other as they watched their best friend fly for the first time-and get her Cutie Mark.
