Twilight Sparkle had an unbreakable bond with her friends. Even after they had disappeared from Equestria, Twilight would always find a way to reach them. The connection they shared had always shone twice as bright as any other star in Luna's sky.

But...what happens when Twilight has to be the one to shatter that bond that they had worked so hard to forge? Why would she take a hammer to the wall of friendship she had tried so hard to create?

Twilight Sparkle needed to forget.

:fluttercry:ahhh:fluttershbad:

Gods, why did she have to go and do that! Why? :raritydespair:

Augh. But it was so good. Liked and faved.

First i was like :pinkiesmile::pinkiesmile:

but then :rainbowhuh:, :flutterrage:, :fluttershbad:, :raritycry:, :pinkiesad2:.
and that about sums it up.

Good job on creating a sad fic that twinges in happiness. You play with the phrase bliss in ignorance, and make it so emotionally attaching!:raritydespair::raritystarry::raritydespair:

Manly tears were shed... :fluttercry:

Lifting Shadows Off A Dream - Dream Theater

Needs the AU Tag, since Megan confirmed that Twilight will not outlive her friends.

Ok, I can't wrap my head around that ending. :rainbowhuh:

Oh. Um. :fluttershysad:
Gah! No tears but wow.
Liked and faved. No debate on that. Keep posting work like this and you got yourself another watcher.

Augh! I was flipping through my faves when I saw this again. The ending is... haunting.
All I did was have to see this in my faves box and Blam! the story came right back! Ow, and it hurt a bit, too.
Oh, look at me venting and ranting. I apologize for wasting your time.

Twilight ended up forgetting who they all were due to her becoming a princess. That's what she was doing in the land of the dead; giving her friends her memories so that:
1. They can remember all the time they spent together, and
2. She won't suffer over the loss of her friends.

Kinda selfish, don't you think? Getting rid of your memories of those who love to spare yourself the pain of them being gone?
Wouldn't keeping the memory of them alive yourself keep them in some way alive? And when even when immortality has ran its course (yes, everything must eventually come to an end, even that that doesn't) and you finally join your loved ones, wouldn't they greet you as a friend who has been away for a long time?

Seems to me that Twilight was a bit here, ridding herself of the memories instead of holding onto them, and surely, thanks to you telling me this, that Twilight feels a bit of regret somewhat, even if she doesn't completely consciously now it. Remember kids, your mind and heart will always know, no matter how much you can try.

You make an excellent point, but take into account that there could be other reasons behind her actions besides the ones instated and the ones in the story that we may never know about. But you could be right. Maybe in a fit of despair, she said, "alright, I'm done with the pain." And gave herself the cranial wipe. Who knows?

Hmm... heh Twi couldn't take it anymore.:rainbowlaugh:

Mortals are not meant to live forever. Even if one could achieve it, you would have to do one of two things to live forever. You either cut out your heart and cast away all you feelings (which Twilight essentially did here) or you are simply born strong. You must be so strong in spirit that you can take more then a lifetime of joy only to have an equal amount of pain without breaking under the pressure of each tragedy. And the tragedies will add up. They will keep adding up so long as not everyone is immune to death. So long as there is suffering of any kind (emotional or otherwise) the weight on your soul will grow until it become unbearable. To be an immortal or a god, you must be an uncaring monster or the strongest person alive. Twilight didn't have what it takes and it would be unfair to expect otherwise.

I like it but at the same time I don't, if that makes any sense.
